Everyone was beautiful but their beauty had a sinister quality, like the beauty of Venetian masks that might hide the glorious or grotesque.

for a while when I was a kid I thought “opposable thumbs” was a silly phrase to refer to the trade-off of how intelligent and capable but also horribly destructive and short-sighted humans are….I thought it was like “thumbs are neat but we abuse their power which is very oppose-able. we’re the only creatures that have them and we’re the only creatures fucking shit up like this. coincidence I think NOT” that’s what I thought it meant

One of my favorite jokes to make is when I overhear something figurative, and jokingly take it literally... Except, the issue with that is that nobody fucking understands it. So, somebody will be like "It's raining cats and dogs" and I'll jokingly respond "Idk, I'm not seein' any dogs", and apparently I'm just fucking stupid for that.

Writing thought from someone who has written a couple short stories and metric ton of angsty fanfic
If you want a description to hurt, make it feel alive. Make it human, better yet animal, maybe even plant.
So let’s say Melody used to be your girlfriend. And you loved her, god you love her still, but there became more and more things that felt, in the moment, more important than talking to her. She fell to the sidelines until she walked away from them, from you.
I do not want to hear how your heart is shattered, and you may never be able to pick up the pieces. It feels trite and impersonal, and I don’t like it
Tell me about the writhing beast in your chest, clawing at your rib cage and howling for her day and night.
Or let’s say you can feel the beginnings of a depressive episode.
You could describe the weight of your limbs or the passion draining out of you.
But instead, please tell me about that invisible invasive ivy sprawling over your skin, leeching into you, and bleeding out whoever, whatever you used to be.
But yeah, nothing can take me out of a story like an overused description, but it can be hard to find an alternative to that, so that’s what I do instead

Is it just me or can you find the full range of human emotion in the average notes app? I’ve got vents, poems about nature, to do lists, and then the most random vague thoughts that I don’t remember writing.

Hibiscus
Sweet hibiscus juice runs down my chin
Like I ran through the grass in my grandparents’ backyard
Resaca in the distance as my ankles graze the damp weeds
Sweet hibiscus can only stay for so long
I kiss my grandmother’s cheek gently saying goodbye
My father packs our luggage in the car outside
Sweet hibiscus juice (también se llama jamaica) gets into my hands at the michoacana market before we drive off
Exported and traveled so far just to be wanted and held
Sweet hibiscus wants to feel the warmth and humidity like there is back home
No hassle to raise, but might show neglecting signs when it’s older
Sweet hibiscus juice tastes everlasting in my mouth
So rich yet dissolves by one swallow of saliva
Take your time, I understand it’s hard, but
Your sweet hibiscus will turn yellow and fall.

What if stars are just wounds seeping light, stitching themselves together with dull, discolored flesh for the rest of time? Do they know we can't hear them crying out in the darkness? Do they know that we cry too?
