SpecGru
BACKGROUND:
GUANGZHOU, CHINA.
Welcomed to the world in 1991 by Chunhua Jiang and Junjie Zhao, Jiang grew up with nothing but pure admiration and respect for her parents, a couple consisting of an anesthesiologist and a medical translator. Despite her parents never engraving their professions into her head, Jiang displayed a keen interest in life sciences from a young age, oftentimes stealing their medical articles and documents to read in her free time.
Wanting better life opportunities for a freshly graduated Jiang Zhi, Chunhua and Junjie made the decision to move around the United Kingdom in early 2008 before eventually settling in Hereford, England. In awe of living fairly close to one of the SAS bases and armed with a newfound interest in the Army, a then 17-year-old Jiang spent months preparing for the selection process, passing with flying colors and officially becoming part of the British Army in 2009.
From fieldcraft to how to handle a rifle, Jiang took on the challenge, eventually using her background in medicine to start her training as a Combat Medical Technician for 22 weeks, traveling around the world with a lot more maturity and interest in saving lives, aware of how crucial timing is.
While faced with countless injuries during her service, Jiang showed utmost determination to recover and keep serving, never being one to stay still for extended periods of time, not when the sense of responsibility over her mates has been weighing her down ever since she joined the Army.
Once the policy changes that allowed women to become members of the SAS were announced in 2018, an eager Jiang all but begged her superiors to put in a good word for her, eventually being contacted by a recruiter after anxiously applying. Despite her 9 years of experience in the Army and plenty of determination, Jiang found herself challenged by a system set up to only allow the best of the best to pass, close to giving up mid-way, she found strength to move forward in the name of the fallen soldiers she had an oath to protect.
Despite the extensive and exhausting selection process, Jiang made history as one of the three women who have completed the six-month course, celebrated in 2019 by her parents and the extensive group of soldiers she managed to befriend during her time serving. Interrupted by a ringing phone, Jiang heard of the name John Price for the first time, called for what would be her first mission with the SAS after a number of multiple terrorist attacks in Central London.
Working along Kyle ‘’Gaz’’ Garrick and John Price, Jiang proved herself to the war-hardened Captain by providing cover and patching up injured hostages and soldiers, eventually being hand-picked by Price himself a month later, once Task Force 141 formed.
“Y’can’t heal others if you’re falling apart yourself.” Within the 141, Jiang found someone who could always tell how hard she was on herself, how much harder she worked to ensure no one would ever die at her hands again, oftentimes only being able to sleep after working her fingers to the bone.
Her relationship with Simon was surprising to even herself, oftentimes finding the quiet man in her office doing his own paperwork or offering to get her a cuppa whenever she seemed stressed, despite knowing her preference for coffee.
Despite how witty she can be, her relationship with the 141 was based on mutual trust and shared understanding despite it all, knowing that every single member is needed to keep each other alive and make things work.
In late November, Jiang’s skills and knowledge were put to test as a gravely injured John ‘’Soap’’ MacTavish was brought to her, panic quickly setting in the moment she saw the bullet wound leaking out blood from his head like a broken faucet, quickly rushing into surgery and defying the odds against them, managing to save his life as the base of his brain and spinal cord being completely untouched by Makarov’s bullet, allowing him to be part of the 10% of people who have survived a headshot after a 12-hour-long surgery. Jiang’s body collapsed the moment Johnny was stabilized, a build-up of stress and disappearing adrenaline quickly catching up to her, only being held up by Simon, who was present during surgery and helping her with minor medical assistance for his injured mate.
Her first sexual encounter with Simon happens the day after, an extremely stressed and tired Jiang asking him to lay with her when he comes to check up on her, his resolve tested the moment he accepts her offer and feels her cuddle up to him, acting like a painfully fitting piece against his body. Clothes were discarded not even minutes later, hungry lips meeting as their hands desperately grasped for anything they could touch, quickly escalating into Jiang sitting on Simon’s face while he masturbated, the first sexual contact in years for both of them, yet a memorable one at that.
Lines were blurred after the events of that day, eventually starting a not so secret relationship with the Lieutenant.
PREFERENCES:
Clothing style: Long pencil skirts, turtlenecks, sweatpants, Simon’s shirts. Favourite song: Bauhaus - Passion of Lovers Favourite book: The Woman in Black - Susan Hill Favourite smell: Latex Favourite drink: Black coffee
TRIVIA/FUN FACTS:
Jiang renounced her Chinese citizenship at 22 years old, as the Chinese government does not allow dual citizenship.
The tattoo ‘’In Arduis Fidelis’’ translates to ‘’Faithful in Adversity’’ and it comes from the motto of the Royal Army Medical Corps, remaining as a permanent placeholder of a Medic armband, and being a representation of her commitment to being a Medic.
Jiang never had an interest in dating, only briefly accepting someone’s proposal in high school to see what it was like— and quickly realizing it wasn’t for her. Due to this and her close relationship with her best friend, her parents thought she was a lesbian until she brought Simon home.
Jiang smokes a lot, easily running through a pack of Marlboro Gold within a day and a half.
She’s surprisingly good at picking up accents, usually heard speaking in a painfully thick Birmingham accent, much to the dismay of the entire 141.
She has a pet octopus named 親愛的 (chān oi dik), meaning ''darling'' in Cantonese.
Despite not being extremely religious, Jiang and her family are Catholics.
She’s usually seen with a pair of black half frame reading glasses.

Price joined the infantry at the age of sixteen and has served in the British Army for eighteen years. One of the youngest cadets to ever graduate the Royal Military Academy as a commissioned officer, he completed Special Service Commando selection and was 'badged' a member of the SAS. He was promoted to Captain in 2011.
With uncanny instincts and an unchecked determination, Captain Price is a relentless combat-tracker, doing best in a fluid and volatile environment. A seek-and-strike expert, Price is versed in a wide range of fieldcraft and tactical capabilities. From airborne shock-trooper to long-range reconnaissance operator, Captain Price is a skilled and adaptable saboteur. He has a honed talent for using goodwill and trust to develop and maintain links to valuable foreign fighters across the globe.
Price believes that the duty of every soldier is to fight for the greater good— "The rules of engagement don't change, but their justification does." Price always fights for what's right but he knows what's right isn't always what you're fighting for. He's often said, "One man's terrorist is another man's freedom fighter." Sometimes unpredictable and unrestrained, John Price has a golden rule all his own: "We get dirty, and the world stays clean."
Not above a rogue move or an unholy alliance in the name of getting the job done, John has a deep but often strained relationship with the system. He seems to hate being tied down by rules or procedures, and sometimes takes drastic actions on his own, often against orders.
His grandfather fought in World War II.
Price enjoys smoking cigars. His favorite brand is Villa Clara’s.
(As always this is my personal canon, with influence from canon)

Sends you Minfilia to write from her pov :3c
“I had no idea your passion was in mining, Minfilia,” Shira said.
Minfilia invited Shira for tea after having reunited her with her adoptive mother — it was the least she could do to thank the fellow Scion. F’lhaminn had baked soft and tender tea biscuits to go with some freshly brewed tea. Shira paired this with some rolanberry jam she preserved and high-quality butter that she had kept for cooking.
“Yes, it’s a passion since my formative years,” the Antecedent beamed at Shira with her clear grey eyes, her voice light and soft. “It was not my intent to hide this from you, though there scarcely seemed to be an appropriate time to bring it up.”
F’lhaminn encouraged both of them to take time to rest. Hearing her mother be so proud of her made Minfilia more aware of how tireless the scions were working. She also realised how distant she must have seemed to the tireless warrior she sent on constant errands and missions. Not once did Shira seem to complain, though she knew that she had endured much.
She frowned. As another one blessed with the Echo, she felt she wanted to be closer to Shira, yet during their time together, she felt they grew more distant. With a hand to her breast, Minfilia confessed her apologies as sincerely as she could.
“I realise perhaps I have shared very little about myself with you. Nor you with me, doubtless due to the tasks I’ve beset upon you. I would like to correct this, now that we have some respite.”
Minfilia looked at Shira, wondering how she would take the apology. Instead, the Au Ra shook her head with a smile. Through this wordless exchange, Minfilia understood that Shira forgave her. The Antecedent smiled in relief.
Shira extended her hand. “Can I see the Tiger’s Eye that F’lhaminn gave you?”
“Of course. I have it here,” Minfilia took the gem stashed safely away in her pocket, passing the small stone to Shira. She took it in her fingers and rotated the round, smooth gemstone in the dim light of the Waking Sands, seeing its striated surface with its luminous bands. She did not think Shira would be as taken with gemstones as she was. When she passed it back into Minfilia’s possession, she had to ask.
“I understand that your vocation is in fishing, Shira. Did you have any interest in mining?”
“I did join the Mining Guild in Ul’dah. What for…” Shira put a fist on the side of her cheek as she searched her memory. After a long pause, ruminating over bites of rolanberry jam-covered tea biscuits, Shira finally remembered.
“Oh, right. I needed components for enchanted silver ink, obtained in the South Shroud by mining. I needed it to repair a faded copy of an orchestrion roll I found. Then when I managed to synthesise it with alchemy, I found out I lacked the Master Recipe to repair the other orchestrion rolls I found.”
Minfilia was astounded. This seemed almost highly impractical. “I had no knowledge you were crafting alongside adventuring. Could you not have found someone to repair it for you on the market board, or through your retainers?”
“The what? Marred Debt Horde?”
“Oh dear…” Minfilia remembered Shira was quite directionless, especially in large cities.
“One of these days though, you should come fishing with me, Minfilia. You really do get to experience the natural beauty of Eorzea, sitting still with rod in hand, listening to the sound of water, the wind in the trees and the call of animals.”
Shira spoke with a fond, captivated smile that Minfilia felt happy that she could at least find some common interest with Shira. She knew when Shira was not adventuring and at the Waking Sands, she was pouring over a hefty volume known as The Fisher’s Guide to Eorzea, among other tomes dedicated to fieldcraft and tradecraft.
“You sound like you have many fond memories of fishing. Did you fish much growing up?”
“No, not much.” Shira shrugged, taking a swig of tea before indulging in a fisherman’s tale. “It all started on my journey to Limsa Lominsa. It was the first time I was out on the open ocean. I saw fish leap up from the surface, seagulls and dolphins. Then, when I ate at the Bismarck with some friends, I tasted Ash Tuna for the first time. I was hooked on the taste! I remember thinking to myself ‘So this is what ocean fish tastes like.’”
It was true. Many esteemed nobles and patrons of the Bismarck would pay top gil to dine on the bounties of the sea, whether they were caught in La Noscea or traded from beyond.
Shira continued, embellishing her tale as best she could. “As soon as I established myself with the Marauder’s Guild, I went straight to the Lower Decks to apply to the Fisherman’s Guild. The rest is, well… as you know.”
Minfilia chuckled. “Perhaps we do need to have a fishing trip together. Rarely do I hear you speak so passionately.”
“If you can help me with mining Mythrite sand, we can then go fishing for cliones in Western Coerthas!”
Thinking of the blistering cold and sleet in Coerthas, Minfilia shook her head in horror, realising she had spoken too soon. “Pray that we find some more suitable winter clothing first before embarking on such an expedition!”

SAS training
Nastka’s journey into the ranks of the SAS (Special Air Service) is a tale of relentless perseverance, exceptional endurance, and unbreakable spirit. The SAS is famed for being one of the most elite military units in the world, and its training process is both physically and mentally gruelling, designed to break all but the most resilient. For Nastka, the journey was as much about self-discovery as it was about proving his worth as a leader.
Early Inspiration and Decision
From a young age, Nastka was captivated by stories of extraordinary feats of bravery and skill, often told by his grandpa. The idea of joining an elite unit like the SAS was born out of this fascination. However, the decision to actually pursue this path was not made lightly. Nastka knew that the SAS demanded more than just physical fitness; it required an iron will, unwavering focus, and the ability to endure the harshest of conditions.
Preparation and Pre-Selection Training
Before even attempting to join the SAS, Nastka committed himself to a rigorous self-imposed training regimen. He understood that the physical demands would be immense, so he began by building his endurance through long-distance running, swimming, and weight training. However, Nastka knew that mental toughness would be just as critical. He incorporated challenges that tested his limits—night hikes, survival exercises, and sleep deprivation drills—designed to mimic the conditions he would face in the SAS selection process.
The Selection Process
The SAS selection process is notorious for its difficulty, with only a small percentage of candidates successfully passing. For Nastka, this was the first major hurdle on his journey. The selection phase began with a series of physical assessments, where Nastka had to prove his endurance, strength, and stamina. This included timed marches carrying heavy packs across rugged terrain, which pushed his physical limits to the brink.
One of the most challenging aspects of this phase was the "Fan Dance," a 24-kilometer march over Pen y Fan in the Brecon Beacons, under harsh weather conditions and with minimal rest. Nastka’s mental and physical preparation served him well, but the experience was horrible nonetheless. Many of his fellow candidates dropped out at this stage, unable to cope with the sheer intensity of the challenge.
Jungle Phase
After successfully passing the initial selection, Nastka entered the "Jungle Phase," where he was deployed to a remote, hostile environment. This phase of training is designed to test a candidate's ability to survive and operate in one of the world’s most challenging terrains. For Nastka, the jungle was a completely new and unforgiving environment. Here, he learned advanced fieldcraft, navigation, and survival skills under extreme conditions.
Living off the land, dealing with the constant threat of disease, and navigating through dense, treacherous terrain all while evading capture was part of daily life. Nastka’s ability to remain calm, focused, and resourceful in these situations was crucial. The jungle phase was as much a test of mental resilience as it was of physical ability, and Nastka emerged from it with a deeper understanding of his own limits—and his capacity to surpass them.
Escape and Evasion (E&E) and Tactical Questioning
Following the jungle phase, Nastka faced the "Escape and Evasion" (E&E) exercise, one of the final and most intense phases of SAS training. During this exercise, candidates are pursued by a "hunter force" and must use all their skills to evade capture while navigating hostile terrain. This phase demands not just physical endurance but also tactical ingenuity and the ability to think clearly under immense pressure.
Eventually, Nastka was "captured" as part of the exercise, leading to the next stage: Tactical Questioning. This involves a simulated prisoner-of-war scenario where candidates are subjected to intense interrogation techniques. The goal is to test their ability to resist giving away critical information under duress. This phase pushed Nastka to the limits of his mental endurance, but he knew that maintaining composure was essential.
The Final Test
The culmination of Nastka’s training was the "P Company" (Parachute Company) test, a final assessment that evaluated everything he had learned and endured. This phase involved a series of demanding physical challenges, including a brutal 10-mile march, a steeplechase with obstacles, and a series of confidence-building exercises designed to test resolve and fearlessness.
Passing this final test was the ultimate validation of Nastka’s journey. It was not just a physical achievement but a testament to his mental fortitude, discipline, and relentless pursuit of excellence.
Reflection and Beyond
Looking back, Nastka’s journey through SAS training was more than just a path to joining an elite unit; it was a transformative experience that redefined his understanding of his own capabilities and ensure that his men see him as a leader. The SAS training taught him the value of perseverance, the importance of teamwork, and the necessity of mental resilience in the face of overwhelming odds.
As Nastka joined the ranks of the SAS, he knew that his journey had only just begun. The skills and lessons he had learned would serve him well in the challenging lifestyle ahead, where the stakes would be higher than ever. But he also knew that the journey had already shaped him into a soldier—and a person—far stronger and more capable than he had ever imagined.

I’ve tuned out a lot of politics news and accounts lately. It’s pretty clear which party is evil and which party is lazy and evil. There’s only like 7 decent politicians in the entire country.
I’ve been listening to more music and more podcasts about science. I’ve been lifting more packages, shoveling more dirt, shooting more guns, and cooking more food. To people worried about politics and elections I have this advice:
Make yourself as hard to kill as possible. Learn fieldcraft, shooting, and get fit.
Make your family as self reliant as possible with gardening and livestock.
You’re already living in post-America because America is dead. It’s better to spend time prepping for conflict than it is to whine online or watch the doomers on YouTube.

as neat as the current gun-industry CQB meta is it's definitely being used as a tool to weaken our nation's weirdos. someone who only fights within 7 yards is certainly gonna be skilled at movement and target acquisition but is a lot more vulnerable and not nearly as dangerous as someone who's studied fieldcraft; camouflage, land navigation, medium distance (~250yd) shooting, etc

Here's the Discord Mech-Rant, if anyone's interested!
It specifically pertains to the use of 'mini-mechs' in a Special Operations type of mission, which I disagree with as much as I do the use of mechs anywhere else. Gonna be honest, wrote this right after dinner, so... not my finest work
Basically, when it comes to that category of military activity that is the 'raid', whether Special Operations or 'conventional' the whole thing can usually be split into three phases. Here, I'll just call them infiltration, action, and exfiltration.
The trouble, I think, when it comes to using nearly any 'vehicle' as a weapon system for a true SOF raid is less in that middle part, and more in the other two. When I think of 'modern-ish' SOF raiding missions, I think of things like the Bin Laden raid, and other similar actions in the War on Terror against various time sensitive, high value targets. In these actions, alongside other SOF missions, speed and above all discretion are the absolutely most important elements towards success. Getting 'behind enemy lines' undetected isn't easy, which is why airborne / 'air assault' insertion of what are, effectively, very light infantry is how they usually unfold. As you point out, SOF gear is definitely usually 'light weight and mobile', but the lack of expected resistance is, I think, only part of why. The sheer difficulty of moving anything that can't be broken down and carried on your back into the area of operations is another reason heavy equipment wouldn't be used. Either it has to move under its own power, which might be out of pace with however the 'foot sloggers' get there, or additional / specialist transportation vehicles will be needed to bring it where they're going.
Then, my question here would probably move onto why, exactly, an SOF raid would need this sort of heavy equipment enough to warrant accounting for all the additional transportation needed to bring it in? I realise that I might being anachronistic, but I can't imagine an SOF-exclusive mission which would need this much firepower, and if the protection against heavy weapons is needed then it all seems a bit too intense for a ground based raiding team. In my conception, in a 'conventional' conflict, the major role of SOF would be to maintain constant surveillance of enemy rear areas and lines of communication, which are by their nature exhausting, endurance-heavy, but hopefully fighting-light tasks which rely on radios and fieldcraft as much as firepower. Or, in the case of a counter-insurgency environment, the adversary there may not be able to put up much of a fight against the SOF troops on their own. In all of these situations, I think, there's also the 'outside' fires they might receive from air support, missiles / artillery, and whatever the setting has, though I can imagine they might not always be reliable
