The Borderlands movie looks... really, really, REALLY bad. Why did they cast Kevin Hart of all people for the serious emotionally withdrawn strait-laced soldier character???? Why are the cast members ages so all over the place and dramatically different than the characters they're playing?? Going by Tiny Tina's age in the movie these should be the BL2 versions of these characters which puts the vault hunters in their mid to late 20s or early to mid 30s at the oldest, yet the cast has a bunch of 40, 50, 60+ year olds???? Kevin Hart is 44 playing Roland who should be in his early 30s, which is weird putting him next to Cate Blanchett at 54 playing his in universe love interest Lilith who should be younger than Roland in her late twenties. JAMIE LEE CURTIS IS 65 AND PLAYING TANNIS, who is made to seem to be not much older than Lilith in the series???? Meanwhile Hammerlock who is clearly a good bit older than the vault hunters when they meet him is being played by a 34 year old, one of the youngest cast members??

Also they just don't seem like the characters they're playing at all personality-wise in the trailer, as if not a single actor or director or producer of this movie bothered to look at the source material at all. Game series Lilith is snarky, cracking jokes even mid combat, has an attitude but it's teasing and playful most of the time making her sort of the balance to Roland's unwavering seriousness. Meanwhile Cate Blanchett looks like she's playing a "I'm so done with this shit" tough, cold, and serious old soldier bitch action movie archetype. Then there's serious soldier Roland being played by Kevin Hart who can only play himself and does so by playing himself as a constant joke. Tiny Tina is missing most of her crazy unique personality and seems like a normal bratty comedy movie teenager, just given guns and explosives. Even Jack Black as Claptrap feels like a huge miss in the trailer, and I was actually really expecting to like that casting decision. Can't have any opinion on Krieg because nothing is shown of him in the trailer, although him being with Roland and Lilith is super weird to begin with and I don't understand why they went with him over Mordecai to round off the team. Oddly enough from the trailer the person who feels closest to their character personality wise is Jamie Lee Curtis playing Tannis even though her age is WILDLY off.

NGL it really feels like they just went with names people recognize instead of finding actors who actually fit the roles at all because they don't care about actually making Borderlands, they just want to make a comedy action movie with a bunch of well known stars and Borderlands just happened to be the name they chose for it. The plot has nothing to do with Borderlands, the casting doesn't fit Borderlands, the characters are half new characters made up just for the movie that have nothing to do with the Borderlands series, the movie is leaving out a bunch of fan favorite important Borderlands characters... so why even make it a Borderlands movie? I've seen some people criticizing it saying that it feels like they're trying to make Borderlands into a Guardians of the Galaxy style movie, but I don't even get that from the trailer tbh. For me this feels more along the lines of the Jumanji reboot, which is even worse. Like yeah Borderlands has some cheesy and low bar humor in the series but ... not like *that*.

Honestly I think doing live action for Borderlands period was/is a mistake. Animated would be so much better. Not everything needs to be live action with big name celebs, sometimes (a lot of times) that is actually WAY WAY WORSE than doing nothing at all!!!!

I’ve slowly been getting my friend into metal and she was like “oh there is metal show I saw that is happening in a few weeks. We should go together :)” so I was like oh cool okay (I’m always down to go to any concert) but then had to be like nope pump the breaks.

They are playing at the junkiest and most notoriously rowdy venue in the entire surrounding 2 hour radius. I had to be like “Bud no. You will get eaten alive. That is where dickheads go to see music, like you do not know the amount of trauma patients I have seen waltz up from that venue. There is something about that venue that’s makes people go wild, like bands having to stop mid song to be like wtf y’all, wild. I love you, and respectfully I do not think you could hang. If anybody comes literally anywhere else then for sure let’s go, but I don’t even like seeing the chillest bands around there.” However somewhere in the back of my head I’m like hmmm it would be wild but it also would be wicked fun so we still might go ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Thoughts on Astarion's romance (again)

Honestly, the way my romance is playing out is pretty cool from a RP perspective, as it really shows that he's lying through his pretty teeth at the start of the romance.

We did the "defend the grove"-thing pretty early, so I never had a chance to be kind to Astarion before the party in camp. In addition, my approval with him was probably on the lower end of neutral. Whenever I tried to talk to him, he always responded with

"Ugh, you're staring at me again" and

"What do you want?",

like a really annoyed coworker. (I probably sound like that a lot, ngl.) He didn't hate me, but yeah, he was clearly annoyed.

At the party, I asked him what his definition of fun is (I just really wanted to know, not trying to flirt) and his answer boils down to "sex, but not with you, ewww" and that's that.

Sometime afterwards, the whole "let him feed" thing triggered, and I did some nice things for him (Gandrel and giving him the creepy book).

And then the romance part started and suddenly he's like "I always had my eyes on you" - Astarion, I annoyed the fuck out of you. You didn't even try at the party, you clearly said "eww not you" and now you're pretending that you've been into me from the very start? I'll say it again, you're a bad liar and I can't wait for you to catch all these feelings you don't want.

Lucky for him, I'm playing a cleric, not a nun. And this cleric probably relates to him in weird ways thanks to her dark urge.

Last show: Shadow and Bone. Finished watching the second season two days ago and I have OPINIONS (that will probably be put into a WIP and then abandoned like all my other fic ideas lol)

Currently watching: I am usually very very bad at watching stuff, but I'm currently watching the Swedish version of the Great Celebrity Bake-Off. Also thinking of re-watching Black Sails again but that would require spare time/energy that I don't currently have. However, the, in my opinion, most charming Swedish tv-tradition ever starts again next week so I will be watching that. It's a live stream from a bunch of cameras set up to film the migration of moose across Ångermanälven (if you don't speak Swedish, älv=river). It's marketed as "slow-tv" - which basically means that you mostly get to see trees, water, and some birds. And reindeer. Lots and lots of reindeer. It's also not that far from where I grew up so it cures some of the homesickness 🥰

Currently reading: all the books lol. Dolda Gudar by Nils Håkanson, Heart of Darkness by Joseph Conrad (for uni), The Odyssey by Homer (Emily Wilson's translation), and Regarde les lumières mon amour by Annie Ernaux. Also re-reading Language and Minority Rights by Stephen May but as that's technically for an essay I'm writing I'm not sure it counts.

Current obsession: sleeping lol. It's full-blown pollen season where I live so I'm just sleeping all the time - whether I want to or not 🫠

And plants! But that's not current, it's just ongoing since forever. I have somewhere around 40 plants + a small window-garden taking up all available surfaces in my apartment - including parts of the floor 🤷‍♀️
