📼Remember to vote at the bottom // Details for the Trope or Treat Madness Event found here
📼 We're doing things a little different with this one! I highly recommend reading the little insights into each character's story beforehand here, as the intro belows is told from a narration while they all start the evening together. After this, you'll be voting on which couple we follow for the remainder of the night and it would follow the typical "you" pov with the boy who wins - but the stories are very much intertwined. There are things that happen before and after that would be revealed in future scenes if they make it to the next round and/or in the final one shot if declared the winner - the story told in slightly different perspectives as well.
📼 warnings: You're given names for this one, sorry to do it. Blair for Steve's lady, Vanessa for Eddie's (but used as sparingly as possible) | a sprinkling of toxic relationships, hints to infidelity, yelling, death, blood and gore descriptions as well as use and mentions of weapons like knives and guns will be present throughout the entire story after this| mentions of drugs and alcohol and their use and effects | the little intro image below is playing off of the one from Fargo, and I don't own it
On the evening of Friday, October 27th, 2023, a group of people, let’s call them old friends, are brought back together through the twists of fate and their own stupidity.
Four couples, and none knowing what the others have gotten themselves into after all of these years apart. None knowing what was about to transpire, and how, as a direct result of their actions, beloved friends are going to die.
Our scene opens with Robin Buckley, a gold strappy heel reveals itself first, stepping onto the cold, gray sidewalk. A pale leg on display from the high slit of the dark emerald and silky dress wrapped around her figure. Black polished fingers take the hand offered to her by her date - let’s call her Gabriella. Robin’s freckled face and bright blue eyes shine in the lights of the marquee up at her. Gold chandelier earrings, a modest lip color, and a dramatic eye - perhaps it was a little too much for a simple show at the Orpheum. A fancier look than most, but dammit, Miss Buckley needed this.
You see, Robin is a middle school music teacher. She spends her days pointing at a kid who thinks he’s slick putting gum on the back of his sheet music stand. Calling him out and making him wear the Dingus top hat for the rest of class, marking a talley in the you suck column on the whiteboard and the rest of the class groaning - one step further away from their pizza party. Her eye frequently twitches, for when she asks the student’s what she just said, one quite literally plays the sound of crickets on their smartphone. Yet she loves her job - her students are wonderful, most are respectful, and many are in band because they truly enjoy it.
However, twelve to fourteen year olds these days have no trouble learning the latest tiktok dance in less than five minutes but cannot nail the transition to the chorus of a song they’re learning. She’s guidance counselor when the tweens come in crying, she’s a dentist when she yells at one to get the scissors out of his mouth and cries that he absolutely cannot fix his braces in her classroom. She is benefactor for supplies, she’s an extra custodian, she is superwoman.
She is, simply put, not paid enough.
Which exactly why she got her side gig, and is wrapped up in the mess of tonight. But we’re getting ahead of ourselves.
Robin and Gabby enter the Orpheum, plush red carpet beneath heels as they make their way up grand staircases towards a bar. They don’t know that they’re about to cross paths with old friends for the first time tonight - that it’s not just a happy coincidence.
For our second couple of the night sits at the bar with their drinks in hand already - Nancy and Jonathan Byers.
These two, oh these two. They’re quite a pair.
Nancy Wheeler Byers is in a simple but elegant black cocktail dress. It hugs her hips she works hard for, her shoes and jewelry silver, her clutch a shimmering little thing to match. Her make-up pops, hues and shades that were matched professionally, and her brown curls are pinned up in an old Hollywood style.
Jonathan is wearing a suit.
Nancy raises her extra dry martini to her lips and Jonathan’s thumbs slip down the side of the tumbler holding an old fashioned, he stares at it in disgust. He hates cocktails and would much rather hold a beer.
But that’s not how Nancy does things.
To any other person walking by, to Robin and Gabriella making eye contact with Miss Byers, these two look picture perfect. They are divine, they are a couple straight out of a catalog. Their love is the stuff of myths.
Literally.
Behind the smile pushing up Nancy’s cheeks, behind the black and white candid photography on Jonathan’s carefully curated Instagram, there’s pain and mess and so much we have to uncover.
Robin rushes up to her, an arm around her shoulders, “Oh my god! How long has it been?”
“Too long,” Nancy squeezes her fingers, setting her martini on the black tabletop and motioning for two more to the bartender.
Robin’s eyes bounce between the two old friends, a genuine smile on her face as she gushes, “God, I mean what are the odds? How are you both? What have you been up to?”
Nancy and Jonathan’s eyes dart to the other, tight smiles before responding in unison, “Nothing much!”
Nothing much meaning they’ve dug themselves into holes they can’t get out of, and perhaps they don’t want to. Because she can’t let something go and he can’t say no to her. When Nancy Wheeler Byers finds a loose thread, she has to pull until the whole thing is unraveled. She has to commit, she has to be the best, and her passion and obsession for answers always leads her to forget about others and how her actions have consequences. And it is for this reason, that many believe that what is about to occur tonight is entirely her fault.
But, we'll see about that.
Because, while these old friends start catching up, Gabriella’s smile falls as her gaze makes contact with a pair of hazel ones in the mirror above the bar. He ducks his head, his hand with a thick family ring on his middle finger grabs the elbow of a woman in red, whispering in her ear. His caramel and honey hair styled, pushed back but stray strands will soon fall over his forehead. His black suit is tailored, a bowtie that’s far too expensive, and his shoes shine. The lady in red, we’ll call this one Blair, has accessories and make-up that are equally as professionally done and sophisticated as Nancy’s but far more expensive. The woman attached to the wrist his fingers now curl around turns her head, smiling directly at Gabriella and waving. They begin to head over to the group and Gabriella panics, squeezing Robin’s fingers and beelining towards the line snaking out of the ladies room.
Gabriella’s lack of subtlety is not lost on either half of our third couple. Steve Harrington watches it happen, his throat bobbing and his fingers flexing at his side. Mrs. Harrington finally has the confirmation she needs that her husband is fucking his secretary. But is that what’s happening? Only time will tell, we suppose. That is afterall, how a story works.
Nancy sees the Harrington’s first after Gabriella’s abrupt departure and she smiles. Kisses to each apple of each of their cheeks and a firm handshake from Jonathan.
“Steve?”
Steve Harrington turns, and Robin Buckley beams.
“Ro-Robin! Oh my god!” He engulfs her in a hug and she laughs, the two old friends holding each other tightly. Mrs. Harrington looks at the pair then back at Nancy and Jonathan, confused, and even more so when Nancy gulps down her third martini and Jonathan’s hand shakes before grabbing the detested old fashioned.
Blair has never seen Steve so genuine, not since their early years, not since before their engagement. It’s like the weight of his life is lifted from his shoulders from this honey-haired goddess and suddenly she’s not so sure it’s the secretary he’s fucking.
Steve’s hands land on her shoulders, hers on his forearms as he shakes his head, eyes wide, “Wh-what? What are you doing here?”
Robin laughs, gesturing over her shoulder, “My girlfriend got tickets.”
Steve’s eyes dart up, Gabriella’s head ducks down quickly because as we’ve established, subtle and her don’t mesh. Steve inhales sharply, “She, oh, uh…wait, what?”
Yeah definitely fucking the secretary. The secretary who’s dating his old friend. The friend whom Mrs. Harrington has never heard of before tonight.
Before Blair Harrington can begin to question more, before Nancy Wheeler can start to confirm and piece her puzzle together, another familiar voice breaks the group's focus, and our fourth and final couple is introduced.
“What the fuck?”
The group turns at the question, finding Edward Munson in a suit and a beautiful woman holding his hand. She wears a navy dress, this one is Vanessa. She glances at the three gorgeous women staring at her husband. Her brain begins to calculate just how much their earrings cost, let alone the rest of their ensembles, and she folds in on herself, trying to pull and hide behind Eddie.
He squeezes her fingers as Robin steps forward. “Eddie? Oh my god, seriously is someone playing some like prank tonight? Did the kids do this? How are we all here?”
A great question indeed, Robin.
What are you all doing here?
Before this question can be answered, the soft lighting overhead flickers twice and a chime rings out, signaling it’s time to take their seats.
Blair Harrington starts to head towards their box, Vanessa Munson glances down at the paper ticket in her hand and tries to figure out which direction to go, Gabriella (we never did give her a last name did we?) is nowhere to be seen.
Steve Harrington, Eddie Munson, Nancy Wheeler Byers, Jonathan Byers, and Robin Buckley all stand in a circle, speaking at once.
“Well, we should-”
“Where are you stay-”
“I miss you guy-”
But it’s Nancy’s voice that rings out the clearest.
“Right back here. Intermission. Please.”
With nods, fingers slipping into wives who tug on them, and smiles - some tight lipped and some genuine - the party dissolves and the orchestra makes its first harmonizing note.
The show is starting.
Please vote for who will be moving on and revealing more of their story.
Remember: whoever wins this week, faces the winner of Creatures of the Night - which will have more revealed on Thursday, Oct 12th
Choose wisely!

Hannah leading the TED LASSO pack.
Doing tourist tings.
"We saw you from across the bar and we like your vibe.."
With TED LASSO ending (and it is ending. I don't care about all the hedging that still persists about, "We told *this* story", the show's done. They need to hush their butts with that) it's time to look towards the future. What is on the horizon for AFC Richmond.
The cast next gigs...Oooh whee, what's up with that? What's. Up.With.That?
-Jason Sudeikis will appear in Charlie Day's directorial debut FOOL'S PARADISE.

Slup?
Last time I posted here, I was in the middle of working on OK KO!. Since then OK KO! ended, and I've spent much of my time working on my CN development project with a team of amazing people. I also helped out on a Netflix development project, and wrote on season 1 of Shape Island for Apple TV+. I'm currently working on season 2 of Jellystone!, which has been delightful.
The other big thing I've been working on is a LIVE ACTION FEATURE FILM! This is an absurd comedy on a microscopic budget, made with a crew of friends and family during visits to my hometown of Fargo, North Dakota. Below are some amazing posters made by @michaelfurler for the first 15 minutes of the film, which we've played at a few film festivals as a short.
What am I up to in 2023? Well, my CN project was recently put on ice and I wrap on Jellystone! soon. I'm going to take a breather and focus on finishing the movie for a bit, and then I'll go out with some TV/movie pitches and start looking around for a new animation gig when I'm ready.

How did each of the members of DOS join? or Why did they wanna join?
Reply by Dr. Everheart:
I was initially hired upon recommendation from Director Fargo (not to be confused with Dr. Fargo, my assistant. Director Fargo is her father). I'd had the beginnings of an excellent career so far working for private sectors, and was a very promising newcomer to the scene.
Reply by Dr. Fargo:
I joined largely due to my father. I'd already had an interest in objectology, and with his and my mother's coaching, I had excellent grades in school, which paved the way to my career.
Reply by Researcher Wylde:
I saw an internship at the DOS was available to me and thought it sounded like a chance to blow stuff up lol. I didn't actually plan on staying long, but when I met Dr. Everheart, he seemed like such a fun dude to work for, so I made sure to get on his team, and now I get to goof around every day and occasionally blow stuff up. It's like my dream job!
Reply by Researcher Moore:
I was friends with Will (Researcher Wylde) in college, and he told me about this internship. After I got it, he convinced Dr. Everheart to invite me onto his team. I'm not really all that interested in science, but I get to fuck around with Will all day so it's a pretty sweet gig.
Reply by Researcher Skye:
I saw the internship available at my college and went for it right away! It seemed like such a fun learning opportunity. I was a general intern for a while, until Dr. Fargo noticed my work and offered me a more permanent position on Dr. Everheart's team! Tbh, I was kinda scared of Dr. Everheart at first, but he's a really amazing scientist and it's a really cool experience getting to work with him!
Reply by Researcher Hart:
I thought the internship seemed pretty interesting, even though it wasn't really my area of interest. I'm really good with paperwork stuff, so I took to the general intern tasks really well. At the time, Dr. Everheart was being pressured to take on another full-time researcher, so he offered the job to me. I'm getting my college credits online, so I don't really have anything else to do most of the time, so I decided why not, y'know?

"Saturday Night" Screens At Nashville Film Festival
Jason Reitman came to the Nashville Film Festival on 9/21/2024 with his newest film, “Saturday Night,” a re-enactment of the opening night (October 11, 1975) when “Saturday Night Live” went on the air “live” for the first time. Writer/Director Jason Reitman brought the casting director, John Papsidera with him. That was a master stroke, because this re-enactment of the opening night of “Saturday Night Live,” boasts a star-studded cast. There are so many up-and-coming young talents (and established talents, like Willem Dafoe and J.K. Simmons) involved that it is almost impossible to list them all. But it’s worth trying so that you can keep an eye out amongst the over 80 speaking parts to figure out who that individual was, (in historical terms). We can marvel at the job that casting ”Saturday Night” represents. THE CAST The plot is told through the eyes of the creator of “Saturday Night Live,” Lorne Michaels. Michaels is played by Gabriel LaBelle, who was cast as young Steven Spielberg in “The Fabelmans” (2022). Jon Batiste plays Billy Preston. Kaia Gerber (daughter of Cindy Crawford) is Jacqueline Carlin. Finn Wolfhard (“Stranger Things”) portrays an unnamed NBC page, Lamorne Morris (recent Emmy winner for “Fargo”) is Garrett Morris. Tommy Dewey (“Casual”) is head writer Michael O’Donoghue. Nicolas Braun (“Succession”) handles two roles, as Jim Henson and Andy Kaufman. Matthew Rhys (“The Americans”) is George Carlin. Cooper Hoffman (“Licorice Pizza”) plays Dick Ebersol. Andrew Barth Feldman (“No Hard Feelings”) is Neil Levy. Taylor Gray (“Star Wars: Rebels”) is Al Franken. Rachel Sennott (“Bottoms”) is Lorne Michaels’ first wife, Rosie Shuster. Dylan O’Brien (“Maze Runner,” 2014) is Dan Aykroyd. I’ve probably failed to properly mention a few of the up-and-coming stars of tomorrow that are in this film about 1975’s up-and-coming stars of tomorrow You’ll want to see how close the actors come to resembling the real "Saturday Night Live" stars. There are over 80 speaking parts in the film. John Papsidera (a sometimes Nashville resident), who also worked on “Oppenheimer,” described that as a huge number. The most difficult cast member to decide upon turned out to be Dan Aykroyd, (said the duo in the Q&A after the screening). With the other cast members, they said, they “tried to find the essence of the person. The movie is about who they are.” The key was to find one main characteristic per character. Chevy Chase was primarily portrayed as egotistical, Garrick Morris was trying to identify how he fit into the cast, O’Donaghue displayed the ability to say the nastiest things but have them come from a place of humor. Gilda Radner was always taking care of others... THE PERFECT DIRECTORIAL CHOICE Back in 2007, right after “Juno” made waves for Reitman with Best Director and Best Picture Oscar nominations, Jason was asked what he wanted to do next. He mentioned his desire to write for SNL (in addition to continuing to direct). Jason was given a one-night stand opportunity to participate in the behind-the-scenes goings on of a SNL episode. Reitman shared that Ashton Kutcher was the host (and starred in the skit Reitman wrote, entitled “Death by Chocolate”). Gnarls Barkley was the musical guest “which gives you an idea what decade it was,” laughed Reitman. THE MUSICAL SCORE “Jon Batiste is a genius unlike anyone I’ve ever met in my life. He has a photographic memory of sound. We decided we should try to do the sound track the way they did SNL: live. There is music in the movie that would never have been there if Jon hadn’t been giving it to me like that.” Batiste’s rendition of “Nothin’ from Nothin” that kicks off the first show is electric. Batiste’s interpretation of the Afro-haired musician (who actually wore wigs for his gigs) was spot-on. SCRIPT The writing shows Reitman’s award-winning touch ( Gil Kenan is co-writer). Reitman’s film “Juno” won a nomination for Best Screenplay based on Diablo Cody’s script in 2007 and “Up in the Air” won the Golden Globe in 2010 for Best Screenplay (based on the Sheldon Turner book). “Up in the Air” was also Oscar-nominated (2009) for Best Adapted Screenplay while winning the BAFTA that year. The script for "Saturday Night" has more zingers and one-liners than any film released this year. Here’s one quick example, “Let me know when my expectations exceed your capabilities” (Head writer O’Donaghue to the lighting crew, after lights nearly fall on the performers.) Another good one, aimed at a meddling middle-aged female censor (Catherine Curtin as Joan Carbunkle; no relation to Jane Curtin): “I’ve heard that love is blind, and now I know why.” One running joke involves how the writers constantly try to sneak risqué sexual references past NBC censor Carbunkle by mis-explaining a variety of sexual terms. AWARDS When I spoke with Jason Reitman and mentioned meeting him previously In Chicago in 2018, the year of “The Front Runner,” he suggested that I might be one of the few at tonight’s screening who had seen the film. Reitman added, “It turns out that people were less interested in Gary Hart’s Senate campaign than in Saturday Night Live.” Sad, that. “The Front Runner,” “Up In the Air,” “Tully,” “Thank You for Smoking” and “Jennifer’s Body” are among my favorite films by any director currently working. Reitman also produced (but did not write or direct) the 2011 DuPlass Brothers comedy “Jeff, Who Lives At Home” with Susan Sarandon, Jason Segel, and Ed Helms. STYLE “Saturday Night” is shot using 16 millimeter film. The pacing of the film is aided by the use of real time as the cast struggled to make the project gel before 11:30 p.m. on Saturday night. This time-line adds to the tension. The great (and oft-nominated Willem Dafoe) portrays David Tebet, the Chief Suit who will decide if “Saturday Night” goes on the air live or if re-runs of Carson’s “Tonight” show, bump it. Like “Apollo 13,” even though we know how that resolves itself, it adds tension to the plot’s story and emphasizes the show’s conflict and dilemma. (*No idea if this was legitimate or poetic license for the film.)Referencing the frenetic pace of the show on that night, the Michael Ritchie (“The Candidate”) style was described as “Robert Altman on amphetamines.” This is such an ambitious project. Congratulation to all involved! "Saturday Night" documents the passing of the torch from one comedic generation to another. With the current political situation in the United States, passing the torch from one generation to another is a hot topic. With Jean Smart (“Hacks”) set to host the opening program of the 50th year of “Saturday Night Live," this edge-of-your-seat attempt to show who the original “Saturday Night Live” not-ready-for-prime-time players were is a great movie. As Reitman said, “It requires so much control to pull off the chaos.” And there is plenty of orchestrated chaos in this one. CONCLUSION "Saturday Night" is “the prism that captures the light of an emerging generation.” The 50th season of “SNL” is upon us. The movie's release date of October 11th is an homage to “Saturday Night Live’s” original debut date. Let the comedy begin! Does “Saturday Night” work? Yes, it does. Check it out at your local theater beginning October 11th, 2024.

August 3-7, 2023 Montana for Calvin's Wedding
We left home in the early hours of August 3rd – heading North at first, then West back to Montana – this time a road trip! We met our friend, Trapper in Maple Grove for lunch. It had been way too long, and the hours flew by as we caught up. When I first met JT, he and Trapper were like “brothers from different mothers,” with their own code language and lots of shared history.
From there, we continued North to Moorhead/Fargo – where we joined brother-in-law Matt for dinner at their house. My sister had already ventured west with my parents in their VW camper (a different kind of adventure!). We had a nice dinner, visited with her cat, and enjoyed the evening in their serene backyard oasis. My brother and two of his daughters (Emma and Georgia) were coming for the night and to transport Matt to MT, but they arrived much later in the evening, and we stayed in a hotel so didn’t see them until we arrived at camp in MT on Saturday.
We drove through the rain, took a few stops in Bismark, Medora and Circle MT. Once again, we were revisiting memories of our 2012 bike adventure! We made several stops in Bismark (TJMaxx, Dollar Store, Walmart) in search of cowbells for Jeff’s 29029 volunteer gig but came up short. The drive from Circle was new territory for us, a two-lane road across the desolate prairie and ranch land of Montana. Much of the road was under construction and but traffic was light, and it didn’t slow us down much. With the rain and the mud though, we had a mud-encrusted Audi!
We arrived at our hotel in Grand Falls and found the Montana State Fair happening across the street! We quickly checked in, then walked over to the fair. We caught the last half of the rodeo – calf roping, young women riding horses very fast in the barrel races, and the bull riding at the end. It was all so foreign tome, but I loved the energy of seeing it in person! It was the second to last day of the fair, so most of the animals in the display barns had been taken home, I was disappointed about that! But the art and flower arrangement displays were still there so we enjoyed that.
The next morning, we had some time, so we visited the Lewis and Clark Exhibition Center. It was cool to imagine what the Missouri River looked like in those days! There was a cool exhibit showing how they devised an 11-day portage around the 5 falls – imagine!! We also enjoyed talking to an older gentleman that had many period guns and other weapons on display – his private collection.
The rain continued as we drove to Seely Lake (as did the muddy construction). We grabbed hot drinks at the local coffee shop and then headed around the lake to “Camp Paxson,” our home for the next three nights (an old boy scout camp that’s now part of the National Forest and run by a non-profit). I felt bad for Calvin and McKinley about the weather, but everyone in attendance was of the “make the best of it” mindset. We got settled in our rustic cabin – I thought they’d be smaller (not sure why I thought that), and was surprised to find JT and I were sharing a cabin with mom & dad, and San & Matt. A close family affair!
Saturday night was informal with a lasagna dinner, lots of wine, and Sandra and Matt led campfire stories and songs. They were dressed in scouting attire, and it was a really fun night!
Sunday morning it was still raining. Calvin and his friends had erected a tent with a stage and dance floor. It was dry but sandy in there – we cleaned it up and Sandra led about 10 of us through a morning yoga session. Then breakfast in the lodge, and free time for hiking, napping, or hanging out until the afternoon wedding. Jeff and I hiked about 4 miles through a beautiful hemlock forest – incredibly open without much understory.
There was a rush to get ready in the communal bathrooms before the wedding – a different kind of experience. Most found with the rain and humidity, it was senseless to try to do anything with one’s hair!!
Like a miracle, the sun came out just before the outdoor wedding and it was a beautiful afternoon and evening. A thoroughly enjoyable occasion – great band, good dinner, and fun celebration with family. There were some “wedding crashers” at the end of the night – apparently, they got away with one of the beer barrels.
Monday morning was quieter. Sandra and Amy and I still did yoga, we had a leisurely breakfast (my dad and my brother made Huckleberry pancakes). A larger group of us hiked to a nearby waterfall, and then the folks that were left had salads and leftover lasagna for dinner. Matt, San, JT and I played a fun game of croquet – obstacles like pinecones and tree roots! Early to bed for me – big week coming up!

It is so early, right? Are you at the Emmys later in the month too? It's a tough gig right? I always feel a little out of place when they put me in a suit - don't get me wrong, I always love what I wear - but I'm so used to wearing jeans and hoodies and Jordans that when I get in a blazer I don't know who I am. I totally forgot about the food! I'm excited to see people, mostly Juno and Hannah. I saw Juno nominated for Fargo and I was so proud of her
Since I have a few nominations, I'll be there. It definitely just creeps up on you, especially since we've all been so focused on the holidays. I'm surprised they put them on this early in January, everyone is still recovering. I just wear a suit, I would hardly say I'm excited for dressing up. I'm mainly excited for a night out and food. What about you?
