general info dump/link list for people just learning about rui!
rui has studied/competed in traditional dance for his whole life since childhood. his sister is also a dancer & influencer on insta (iamriva123) and they used to post kpop dance videos together.
rui was also on boys planet, but was eliminated during the 3rd round of eliminations at 23rd place. i wanted to compile some of the more fun videos from his time on boys planet to help everyone get to know him~~

over me on mcountdown behind: just a lovely video, they're all excited to be on a Real music show... if the vibes seem kinda off it's bc rui was technically already eliminated at this point, but it hadn't aired yet and fans didn't know :((
reaction to zhang hao getting 1st on boys planet: couldn't find a good fancam of this, but rui literally collapses into sobs when it's announced that hao placed 1st, and it's only when he sees rui on the big screen that it really sinks in for hao that he won T T

Last song: lately, I've been listening on loop to 迢迢漫漫 from the Love of the Divine Tree soundtrack because it has a few notes that remind me of a part in Do You Hear the People Sing? from Les Mis. Also, it has the same composer as The Blood of Youth, Hu Xiao'ou.
Favourite color: I live for green. Whether it's the warm green of leaves in the golden sunset or the cool green of Wuchang Gui's lips in the silvery dark, it brings me so much joy.
Last book: An He Zhuan, in preparation for the upcoming Dark River drama. I'm intruiged to see what differences there will be, and how gloriously the fights will translate to a visual medium—particularly under the capable direction of Yin Tao. I have the utmost confidence in Yan Su's continued portrayal of Zhuo Qing, and, after seeing the actors' performances in Love of the Divine Tree, I'm especially excited to see Ray Chang as Song Yanhui and Zhao Huanran as my son, Xiao Yong.

Last movie: Wicked. One of my favorite musicals, and I loved seeing Michelle Yeoh portraying Madame Morrible. Her costuming was excellent, and the way she used touch to manipulate Elphaba and Glinda was captivating.
Last tv show: I recently finished a flurry of shows, and I still haven't completely organized my thoughts on them, so I’ll put more beneath the cut.
Sweet, spicy or savory? It's not quite past the part of winter where I need sweetness to warm my morale and brighten my day.
Last thing searched for online: caramel. I was looking into whether it had salt, because I mentally associate it with salt but wasn't entirely sure.
Current obsession: Jin Yan—I love himmmm 💜
Looking forward to: the upcoming episode of the shao nian ge xing donghua, partially because the plot is doing something incredibly interesting with Jin Xuan, and partially because I'm looking forward to seeing the fandom's reaction. It turns out that Jin Xuan thirst is an international phenomenon, and reading “恋老癖发力了” (“the gerontophilia is kicking in”) and “我先给瑾宣当狗为敬” (“I'll be a dog for Jin Xuan first as a sign of respect”) when opening xiaohongshu made me smile yesterday (translations from the app itself). I consider myself more of a drink-maker of rather than a thirster for Jin Xuan, but I’m always happy to see appreciation for one of my favorite characters 💜

The Advisors Alliance/Growling Tiger, Roaring Dragon
Impressions: Excellent cinematography, great music, lots of fun and compelling moments. I don't know what in Freud is going on regarding consort/emperor/eunuch relationships, but I'll probably be chewing on it for a while. I'm especially intrigued by how the show plays with those roles and blurs the lines between them.
Favorite Characters: Cao Cao, Cao Zhen, Bi Xie, Xun Yu, A-Weng
Favorite Ships: Cao Cao/Xun Yu, Cao Rui/Bi Xie, Qing Xiao/Liu Shan
Other Thoughts: I wish Huang Hao was in it more. I had a hard time getting invested in the characters I'd normally be more drawn to because I wasn't sure if they would stop mattering/disappear/die, especially after a time-skip. This is no fault of the show, since it's based on history and time-skips are neccessary to cover the story being told. It just affected my personal enjoyment, due to how I tend to approach things.
Kill My Sins
Impressions: Beautiful show with a beautiful cast, excellent music and smart writing.
Favorite Characters: Ni Chang, Ye Ping'an, Lu Danxin, Fan Cheng, Lu Wei
Favorite Ships: The lesbian revenge polycule
Other Thoughts: I wish the release schedule had been faster, since it negatively affected my watching momentum. Luckily, that won't be a problem for anyone who wants to get into it now.
Love of the Divine Tree
Impressions: It was such a joy to see so much of the TBoY cast again! Wonderful visuals, soundtrack, acting, and costuming.
Favorite Characters: Ye Xin, Wei Jiu, and Tu Jiuyuan

Other Thoughts: Enjoyable. No particular frustrations. I don't have strong feelings on most of this show, other than having a blast whenever Tu Jiuyuan and Wei Jiu were on screen, especially together, and going absolutely insane over Ye Xin, who is a delicious combination of Jin Xuan and Li Changsheng. Mostly, it just inspires me to write more TBoY fics.
Mysterious Lotus Casebook
Impressions: I mostly watched this because I wanted to have an understanding of its appeal, and I succeeded in that goal.
Favorite Characters: Snow Master (Xue-gong), Jiao Liqiao, Shan Gudao
Favorite Ships: Jiao Liqiao & Xue-gong, Jiao Liqiao/Di Feisheng, Shan Gudao/Li Xiangyi
Other Thoughts: Just like time-skips in historical dramas, the structure of cases made it hard for me specifically to find personal investment. Whenever I saw a new character and thought they were interesting, there was a thirty percent chance they would be the perpetrator of a crime, an eighty percent chance they would die, and a ninety percent chance they would stop mattering once the case was over.
And here’s two shows that I only watched Yan Su’s scenes in:
The Baking Challenge
Thoughts: All of Yan Su's costuming was excellent, even his sleepwear was gorgeous. I loved his russet red hair, especially with the green he often wore. He can pull off a chef's hat just as well as he pulled off a eunuch hat. His bromance was hilarious. I appreciated that the nature of the show being focused on cooking allowed for plenty of close-ups of his beautiful hands, especially since sculpting was his character's specialty.
I was incredibly confused by his love interest. She'd appeared to be stalking him in her fancy car and trying to him away from his friends with weird bribery phone calls, so I thought she was a villian. Then, there was the car accident where he thought she had died, is absolutely shaken when he's giving his love confession after finding out she's alive, while she's just hiding her smirk behind their embrace. There was the star-gazing ordeal, where he was trying to be romantic despite them not being able to watch together, even leaving the good telescope for her to use, but she whines and hangs up, so he ends up leaving his friends just to get back to her. At some point, I think I remember her family trying to bribe him with money and a restuarant to get engaged to her. And when she creepily showed up at his ex's home unprompted, giving the ex a midwife that she picked out herself, I thought for sure that something was going wrong. Overall, from what I've seen of the show, her behavior seems very stalkerish and controlling, and given how, from what I remember, his arc started because he was too overbearing in his relationship with his ex, it seems like an odd conclusion to just flip the situation. I really thought she was being set up as a villain, and he was going to leave her for his more balanced friendships.
Anyways, I did love their scene with the ice slipper, since it amused me that a character played by Yan Su was giving someone ice (romantic), when I've written Zhuo Qing giving Jin Yan ice (sexual). Well, it was mostly Zhuo Luo's ice, but Zhuo Qing froze it again.

Young Blood Seaon 1
Thoughts: I saw Yan Su's scenes in Season 2 a while ago, and his character is pretty interesting in Season 1 too. He doesn't have as many scenes this time, nor are they nearly as intense as Season 2, but they're still pretty fun. Nothing beats him being spanked by a sword, though 😹
