I am so used to being the person at the gathering with all the energy, rushing around and helping and now I'm having to be slow and gentle with my body and it is very hard and very new to me

If something is labelled as a "family event" or "all ages", it doesn't mean you have to go with other people of varying ages.
Fiance and I went to a book bingo event at the library yesterday - the only people who went without kids in tow or without being kids ourselves - and brought home 25 books, bouncing like little goblins with a treasure trove. And the person running it treated us like everyone else [in an inclusive way].
You don't have to be a family to go to a family event. Go. Be free. Do the thing! Goblin mode!
