Just had a realization while I was meditating. The reason I have so much trouble with mindfulness and staying in the present moment is because for the majority of my life I had to remove myself from the present moment to survive. I had to think about the times in the future when I could be alone and control the sounds I was hearing, or when I was going to be able to be with people I actually cared about, or create some elaborate daydream just to be able to make it through a continued stressful situation. I’m working on it and was wondering why it had been particularly difficult for me the past couple weeks and it’s because my brain is going back into survival mode to protect me over the family visit.

Do I feel better for having made this realization? Not really. But it’s nice to understand the puzzle a little better.

Anxiety will really have you feeling like an irredeemable failure for basic things like physics.

My hair is still damp from the shower I took this morning. Which means that I am fogging up the windows in this uber like crazy.
