Even though he had been mutated into a vampire-hawk-man hybrid, Joaquin Torres seems to be enjoying himself as he got his own freedom to fly around. Joaquin also kept his bloodthirsty instincts under control by catching (and eating) wild animals as food in the desert. Just before Joaquin and his relatives could have their dinner, they are approached by the scientists who claimed that they found a cure for his mutation. Feeling upset by the possibility of taking away his powers and his new life, Joaquin sends out Redwing to fetch Sam Wilson. Soon, Sam Wilson arrives with Redwing to the destination where he and Joaquin have a talk. Joaquin admits to Sam that he is scared of taking the cure. Sam reassures him that with or without powers or mutation, he is always a hero no matter what. Before he could decide in taking a cure, Joaquin Torres lets himself enjoy his moment of his seemingly-last flight with Sam Wilson.
