"Labor is like motherhood to most of our political leaders: a calling so fine and noble that it would be sullied by talk of vulgar, mundane things like pay."

It’s been two weeks since employees of Sobeys-owned grocer Pete’s Frootique in Halifax went on strike, and any sign of progress remains to be seen. The workers’ calls for increased wages and benefits are beginning to generate support from community members and federal leaders alike. Dozens of employees and supporters attended another solidarity rally Saturday outside the store on Dresden Row, which included a video message delivered from federal New Democratic Party (NDP) leader Jagmeet Singh. “You deserve pay that keeps up with inflation,” Singh said as a crowd huddled around the store’s entrance and listened, holding signs reflective of worker’s frustrations that included messages like One Day Longer? and Pay Up Sobeys.

Support the Red Cup Rebellion by striking Starbucks workers.
Red Cup Day (November 16th in 2023) is the busiest day of the year at Starbucks. Unionized workers have chosen Thursday to walk out selectively in support of better pay and working conditions.
What workers are demanding...
Workers are calling on the company to turn off mobile ordering on high-volume promotion days, improve staffing and scheduling issues, and bargain with the union. “I feel like customers don’t know to the full extent how hard the promotional days can be. It’s super exciting and fun for our customers to have these new cups, new drinks and all these exclusive things, but our management does not staff us correctly,” said Bruce Halstead, a barista at a Starbucks roastery in Seattle, Washington. “Partners will run themselves ragged having to do the job of three people sometimes because the demand of customers is a lot more. Partners will leave their shifts in tears, they will injure themselves just trying to keep up with the demand of the cups and the drinks. We just want to bring awareness to this.”
If you'd like to actively help the union on Thursday check the list of stores with strike actions.
Otherwise, simply don't visit Starbucks on Thursday November 16th or engage in any Starbucks transactions online on that day.
BOYCOTT STARBUCKS ON THURSDAY NOVEMBER 16th.
Union Strong!

Hi, I’m Adam! You may have seen my main blog @asm5129 😊. Im a young creator looking to tell a story that’s been growing and evolving in my mind for the last 19 years—most of my life.
Gem Knights is a story about history, revolution, relationships, family, love, trust, power and what it really means to be a hero. This story challenges a lot of traditional ideas of how stories are expected to go in the age of blockbusters and spectacle, especially stories about heroes.
This is a longtime passion project for me and I’m incredibly excited to bring it to life as an audio drama—though for now we’re just focusing on the pilot episode.
However, one of the most important parts of this process to me is to pay everyone fairly and overall produce this project ethically, something talent of all sorts experience far too rarely, and that’s what this gofundme is for—so please, help me pay these incredible people what they’re worth!

Speaking of that RENT show with Jeff Blim…
Jeff revealed they still owe him $1,000 for the job. It's nuts. It's crazy. Watch starting on 1:37:03 mark below.
youtube
A while ago, I posted on my main blog about another artist not getting paid fairly, but that was by a big corporate company. It reminded me that Jeff wasn’t paid for his role as Roger for a small independent theater company. Big or small, companies should pay their workers (contractual or not) fairly.
The company behind the RENT show — I may have their name wrong, tho — is called Cupcake Theater. I don’t know if Jeff will ever work for them again, but it's not like he was happy to mention that he hasn't been paid yet. That said, he did share that he was happy to perform in the musical after the whole COVID pandemic, and that in some way, it was kind of like payment.
Also, let me remind you that Jeff and Jon Matteson raised a lot of money on Twitch to continue the RENT show, so it’s wild that the company still hasn’t paid the artist who helped them keep it going. And honestly, a lot of people probably watched the show because of Jeff. The most viewed videos on LA TheatreSource’s YouTube channel features, you gueeeessseddd it!!!"
Also, they used videos of Jeff for marketing on IG. They knew he has a bigger fanbase than the others, so it’s verrrry contradictory that they didn’t pay him — especially since that kinda goes against the show’s message. Maybe. Kinda. I’ve only read the summary and watched bits of RENT, so yeah.
Jeff wasn’t mad or anything, maybe just disappointed, but it would be nice to hear that he finally got paid, even if it’s a delayed payment from back in 2022 or whenever. IDK. Like, what the fuck? Don’t scam your artists.
Anyway, I hope this doesn’t blow up into something negative (did not expect this to get so long either), because Jeff was pretty chill about it, despite still being owed $1,000. But maybe him being so nonchalant about it is part of the reason why he still hasn’t been paid. Or maybe he got tired of following them up about it and gave up and swore not to work with them again, and hopefully told other artists. But unfortunately Cupcake Theater is still pretty active.
Also yeah if anyone from Cupcake Studios is reading this, please pay Jeff or else (lol jk but srsly tho what the fuck. He said he hasn't been paid yet. What's your side of the story?)
Jeff Blim, you beautiful, stupid, scammed artist. You need that $1,000 for your coffee fund. It’s the only thing that makes you happy during your livestreams.
Anyway, here's Wonderwall.
