Sydney Mardi Gras releases 2025 Lineup
Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras has just announced their 2025 festival and events lineup.
The 2025 theme, Free To Be, aims to celebrate diversity and inclusivity for the whole community.
Highlights of the lineup include Hot Trans Summer, a boat party for trans people and allies, Ultra Violet, a day-to-night party for LGBQTI women, Blak and Deadly, a First Nations gala concert as well as Trixie Mattel’s Solid Pink Disco.
“Each year, Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras brings people from all corners of the globe together for a celebration of community, visibility and progress. The 2025 festival embodies this spirit, reflecting the resilience, creativity and unity of our LGBTQIA+ communities,” CEO Gil Beckwith said.
“We are thrilled to welcome everyone to this year’s festivities and look forward to continuing to champion the values of inclusivity and equality.”
Bringing together over 200 food, retail, community stalls, and the iconic Doggywood pageant, Fair Day is also set to return after this year’s shock cancellation.
“Fair Day is more than just an event; it’s a beloved gathering for our community and one of the most inclusive days on our calendar,” Beckwith said.
“After a year’s hiatus, it’s wonderful to see Fair Day return. It’s a day where LGBTQIA+ individuals, families, friends, and allies come together to celebrate, connect, and share in our diverse culture. It’s a truly special event because it brings together all ages and backgrounds in a welcoming, joyous space, reminding us that everyone has a place in our community. [Fair Day] ha always been a cornerstone of Mardi Gras, and I’m thrilled to see it back this year.”

Presented in Partnership with ANZ, Fair Day 2019 will shine a light on rising LGBTQI music stars that are reshaping the Australian contemporary music landscape and breaking new ground. Hosted by Faustina Agolley, you will discover a heady mix of queer trailblazers including soulful electronic pop duo and Eurovision contenders Electric Fields, genre-defying J Award winner Mojo Juju and breakout electronic tomboy-pop artist HANDSOME. Also taking the stage are Detroit-based alt-pop singer-songwriter Flint Eastwood, fierce R&B storyteller & producer Maribelle and Melbourne-based synth-pop duo The Marion Cranes plus super DJ duo stereogamous spinning tunes between sets.
Creative Director Greg Clarke added “This year’s Fair Day features two very exciting new additions, an amazing concert championing queer music artist from within our diverse community on the ANZ Main Stage, and The Arena, an undercover space with raked seating to house both Doggywood and Team Sydney’s sports demonstrations.”
The Arena morning program is a dog-lovers dream. Be sure to not miss the Doggywood Pageant presented in partnership with Hush Puppies, as Sydney’s finest dogs battle it out for the coveted titles of Best Dressed and Most Talented. Registrations are open pre-event at the Mardi Gras website and also next to The Arena on the day. There are two sessions (11am and 12.30pm), and plenty of great prizes for both dogs and owners. Get a front row seat to witness some spectacular canine acts as Kelly Gill and the Wonderdogs team of talented Border Collies, team up with celebrity vet Dr Katrina Warren for two show and trick demonstrations at 10:30am and 12:00pm.
In the afternoon Team Sydney takes over The Arena, with demonstrations and activities including Volleyball, Tug of War, the Speedos Fashion Parade, the Swing Out Dancers, Martial Arts and Fitness.

Another event to add to the list of spiritual and emotional experiences that reflect on the struggle and resilience of our community. As the sun rises on the second week of Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras, the Marks Park Dawn Sunrise Service of Reflection takes place. Set to the backdrop of the Rise Memorial, a site dedicated to the victims and survivors of targeted homophobic and transphobic violence from the 1970s to the 1990s in Sydney and NSW. At this monument to the suffering, perseverance and bravery of our queer and trans elders, we celebrate how far we have come and we reflect on our commitment to removing bigotry and prejudice from our world. When: 24 February, 2024. 6:15am – 7:00am Location: Rise Memorial, Marks Park, Tamarama
Zoo Walk
A Mardi Gras event truly like no other, the Zoo Walk with the Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence is a wholesome way to celebrate Mardi Gras and see one of the city’s favourite spots, Taronga Zoo. Perfect for those visiting from overseas, as it gives you a quintessential Sydney day out – but GAYER! The adventure starts before you even reach the zoo, with a short ferry ride across the Sydney Harbour to the backdrop of the iconic Sydney Harbour Bridge – the ideal spot for an Insta selfie. Once you arrive at Taronga Zoo, you will be met with Zoo Guides and the Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence who will take you on a tour of the famous zoo. Roos, and koalas and dingos, oh my! are just some of the native animals you’ll get to see, among hundreds of other enchanting animals from all over the world. The tour ends by midday, where it wraps up with the Australian Bird Show, and even better, you can choose to stay after it ends and join the Sisters for lunch! Please note that while the tour is free, attendees still need to pay to enter the Zoo.
Who Are the Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence? They are a queer charitable, protest and performance arts group which started in San Francisco, 1979. Utilising drag and religious imagery to satirize the particularly harmful and homophobic beliefs of Christian Church.
