The global LGBTQIA+ events not to miss in 2024
Tumblr media
2024 is jam-packed full of LGBTQIA+ events from across the world.
January is the perfect time to plan out your travels for the year ahead. We’ve put together just some of the major LGBTQIA+ global events in 2024.
Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras – Australia
16 February – 3 March
One of the world’s biggest LGBTQIA+ events is right here at home in Australia. A year after hosting WorldPride, Sydney Mardi Gras will be back for another huge year with Fair Day, Bondi Beach Party and the Mardi Gras Parade and Party are key highlights with many other events planned.
Rainbow Games – Auckland, New Zealand
4-8 April
The international multi-sport tournament for LGBTQIA+ people and allies. This Kiwi event will include badminton, basketball, football, lawn bowls, netball, roller derby, rugby, running, softball, swimming, tennis, ten-pin bowling touch football, and volleyball.
Eurovision Song Contest – Malmö, Sweden
6 – 11 May
Although not specifically an LGBTQIA+ event, Eurovision is often referred to as the “gay Olympics”. The annual contest sees countries from across Europe (and Australia) send a music act to battle it out for the title. It’s camp, it’s extravagant and will bring thousands of queer fans to shows and accompanying events in Malmö and nearby Copenhagen.
Bingham Cup – Rome, Italy
23-26 May
The Bingham Cup is an international rugby tournament for LGBTQIA+ teams from across the world. It’s held every two years and Rome, Italy will host the expected 5,000 rugby players – including our Australian clubs – for the tournament and accompanying events.
São Paulo Pride – Brazil
29 May – 2 June
São Paulo Pride is not only South America’s largest pride event, it’s also considered the world’s largest! The five-day extravaganza features a pride parade plus countless parties. Unofficial events begin in the weeks leading up so you can samba your way through a long and epic Brazilian adventure.
youtube
Pride Month – USA
1 – 30 June
Not all American pride events happen in June but it’s a month where some of the biggest take place. LA Pride, San Francisco Pride and New York Pride are just three that are celebrated throughout the month that honours the Stonewall riots.
EuroPride – Thessaloniki, Greece
21 – 29 June
Each year a different city hosts the pan-European international event EuroPride. This edition will see Thessaloniki play host, so if you want a week-long pride festival in the Greek sun, then this is the occasion for you.
Taiwan Pride – Taipei City
24-27 October
Taiwan Pride is the largest event of its type in Asia with tens of thousands of visitors descending on the city for the festivities. The four-day event includes a pride parade, a pride village and many, many parties.

Taking the platform for his speech, Harry, who served as a helicopter pilot in Afghanistan, told how he felt compelled to raise awareness of the sacrifices made by servicemen and women after a harrowing flight back in 2008.
“As I was waiting on board the plane, the coffin of a Danish soldier was loaded on by his friends.
“Once on the flight, I was confronted with three British soldiers, all in induced comas with missing limbs and wrapped in plastic.
“The way I viewed service and sacrifice changed forever and the direction of my life changed with it.
“I knew it was my responsibility to use the great platform that I have to help the world understand, and be inspired by, the spirit of those who wear the uniform.”

The Flag Bearers of Odisha Across the World
Not just being yet another city crowded with temples and known for droughts and cyclones, Bhubaneswar also has some extraordinarily talented people who have redefined the perception of all towards the state and realise the true beauty of temple architecture, the graceful Odissi and an indigenous variety of folk dances, its poignant music, its rich paintings and surprising sand art and sculpting! Not to forget some very out-of-the-box thoughts portrayed in films, acting and even in business and commerce that has become as essential to us as a gulp of water.
Tumblr media
It may even take tremendous amount of parchments to enlist all of these game-changers down in a list, but here are some of the faces who could see the world in a way that was never seen before. Films: Nandita Das: From being an incomparable actress to an indomitable filmmaker, this daughter of Jatin Das (the world-renowned painter) has left her mark in the industry in a way that only few could ever think of achieving. Nandita Das She has been bestowed with the title ‘Knight of the Order of Arts and Letters’ - a very prestigious Civil Award, she also is  inducted into the Hall of Fame of the International Women's Forum, Washington DC, along with having an independent stamp as part of the project “Women of the World” in France, vouching her impact across the globe. Mira Nair: A name that has itself become the definition of subtlety, fearlessness and reality all merged into one, this woman has truly crossed oceans to reach the zeniths in the night sky, as true as the pole star. Mira Nair Born on 15 October 1957 in Rourkela to Amrit Nair (an Indian Administrative Officer) and Pravin Nair (an active social worker for illiterate children) she grew up with her two elder brothers right here in Bhubaneswar. He was born on 8th January, 1926 in Puri and breathed his last on 7th April 2004, in Bhubaneswar when he was 78 years old. Guruji-Kelucharan Notably known for his dances that took the viewers to the greatest realms of spiritual trance, he often quoted “The real dance must convey the feeling of undivided existence, that a spectator can feel that he is not different from the thing observed". He has been awarded as the ‘Kalidasa Samman’ award by the state of Madhya Pradesh. Literature: Fakir Mohan Senapati: Known  as ‘Utkala Byasa Kabi’ translated as ‘Odisha’s Supreme Poet’ is also regarded as the father of Odia Modern Literature and Odia Nationalism.
