Aelin took a step forward. One step, as if in a daze.
She loosed a shuddering breath, and a small, whimpering noise came out of her—a sob.
Tumblr media
And then she was sprinting down the alley, flying as though the winds themselves pushed at her heels.
She flung herself on the male, crashing into him hard enough that anyone else might have gone rocking back into the stone wall.
But the male grabbed her to him, his massive arms wrapping around her tightly and lifting her up.
Aelin was laughing as she cried, and the male was just holding her, his hooded head buried in her neck. As if he were breathing her in.
"Who is that?" Nesryn asked.
Aedion smiled. "Rowan."
Tumblr media
She was shaking from head to toe, and couldn't stop crying, not as the full weight of missing Rowan crashed into her, the weight of these weeks alone. "How did you get here? How did you find me?" Aelin withdrew far enough to study the harsh face shadowed by his hood, the tattoo peeking out along the side of it, and the grim line of his smile.
He was here, he was here, he was here.
"You made it clear my kind wouldn't be welcome on your continent," he said.
Even the sound of his voice was a balm and a blessing.
"So I stowed away on a ship. You'd mentioned a home in the slums, so when I arrived this evening, I wandered until I picked up your scent."
He scanned her with a warrior's unflinching assessment, his mouth tight. "You have a lot to tell me," he said, and she nodded.
Everything she wanted to tell him everything.
She gripped him harder, savoring the corded muscle of his forearms, the eternal strength of him. He brushed back a loose strand of her hair, his callused fingers scraping against her cheek in the lightest caress. The gentleness of it made her choke on another sob. "But you're not hurt," he said softly. "You're safe?"
She nodded again and buried her face in his chest. "I thought I gave you an order to stay in Wendlyn."
"I had my reasons, best spoken somewhere secure," he said onto her hood. "Your friends at the fortress say hello, by the way. I think they miss having an extra scullery maid. Especially Luca—especially in the mornings."
She laughed, and squeezed him. He was here, and he wasn't something she'd made up, some wild dream she'd had, and-"Why are you crying?" he asked, trying to push her back far enough to read her face again.
But she held on to him, so fiercely she could feel the weapons beneath his clothes. would all be fine, even if it went to hell, so long as he was here with her. "I'm crying," she sniffled, "because you smell so rutting bad my eyes are watering."
Rowan let out a roar of laughter that made the vermin in the alley go silent. She at last pulled away, flashing a grin. "Bathing isn't an option for a stowaway," he said, releasing her only to flick her nose. She gave him a playful shove, but he glanced down the alley, where Nesryn and Aedion were waiting…

I haven't drawn my dryads in a long while. Managed to clean my room this week, so making art seems easier to initiate. I've changed their designs so many time over the years. If you're curious, check my dryad tag, or their names for older art on my blog. I take a lot of inspiration from the Guild Wars Sylvari these days too.
.
Willow the Dryad - She's got four arms, and no right eye. I used to have brands burned onto their bodies to symbolize Vonnie's extreme cruelty. But I think it might be over the top. So I turned the brand into an eyepatch. As for personality she's shy and speaks very little.
.
Duilla the Dryad - The leader of the bunch. She's got the most art, and I've updated her gardening uniform too. These drawings were colored in with pastels I smudged into the paper, since I was trying to find a full-coverage medium I can use on this flimsy paper without resorting to water-based media. Still had to seal it with mod podge, so there's still a bit of buckling. Duilla is an Irish Ash tree, poached from Ireland, and plays with plant biology. She's the first botanist to create a true black rose, which is why Vonnie snatched her from her woodland and shoved her in the palace garden.
.
Malu the Dryad - Malu is originally based off of a goat and a Hawthorne tree. I'm not from Europe or the UK, but I'd LOVE to visit and see a true Hawthorne in person. And to leave a gift for the faeries of course. Malu is Duilla's little helper, and she's generally chatty and sweet. She doesn't talk about how Vonnie poached her though, maybe it's too painful?

7 mana for a 5/5 is not on curve so the ability needs to really stand out to compensate for the suboptimal stats. You really want a 6/6 for 7 at minimum before the card becomes woefully overcosted. This is a legendary creature so it can be your commander but this card does not lend itself to a clear strategy. On edhrec, there are currently 20 commander decks that Veldrane leads and he does not see significantly more play in the 99 of any commander deck. Obviously, this is not a competitive card by any means. The only deck I would play this card in is a Baron sengir flavor deck as Veldrane was the most loyal servant and minion of the vampire. Veldrane is primarily responsible for hunting for food for the Baron. Veldrane often carries a Dwarven sword and this is one of the only identifying features. Many believe Veldrane is but a puppet of Baron Sengir. As a hunter, Veldrane would often hunt in the woods of the Autumn Willow. While he can get through the words unscathed as evidenced by his ability to gain forestwalk he is not quite as powerful going through the harsh woods. The autumn Willow does not like Baron sengir and likewise does not care for Veldrane. In order to insult him she made a miniature replica of him out as a form of open mockery. The replica is represented on the reserved list cars faerie noble. Notice that both arts have the characters wearing eye patches. The story of Homelands was probably the best thing about he set. It is interesting to see how the legendary creatures interact. Homelands seemed to be a precursor to the stories of today which also sometimes uses legendary creatures to represent events in the actual story. I would not be surprised if we never revisit the Homelands or Baron sengir storyline especially with the omenpaths. The card is about 75 cents or less currently and only ever held a high of about 4 dollars. There's no playability here so unless you really enjoyed Homelands or you think that all of these characters will get a redesign then you can pick up one copy to have one of every legendary creature and call it a day. What would a new version even do? Would it be a hate card against green decks? Would it have abilities that trigger when a creature with lower power than its printed power attacks? Even then, are you really going to use this minion? Baron Sengir barely sees play and that character is way more interesting and beloved than Veldrane. Everything I like at this card though I think of the mutant callisto from x-men.

I had to indulge in @lollytea’s Huntlow Neverland au, I’m weak to anything with pirates and fae 😭
I’ll make a Hunter design later because pirate’s are my favourite thing in the world, hyperfixation since day one
but anyway I hope it’s okay that I made Willow a peculiar little creature 👉👈 I’m obsessed with making fae as silly billy looking as possible

How It feels to chew 5 gum...or something like that
A piece I made of a dream sequence my grave cleric, willow had a few months back! A miraculous nat 20 strength save and here we are. She is..very forgetful and apparently was NOT supposed to remember this. A certain dark earth faerie is NOT happy with her. Now she’s just got to find out what all this means and who this faerie is...

OC Prompt Challenge: Board Game Night Madness!
Thank you so much @mudkissedgirl for the tag!
I'm going to do this for the characters from my main WIP, also known as 'my faerie book' since I don't have a name for it yet (emphasising the 'in progress' bit of WIP here): Ashwynn (exiled faerie prince), Leah (autistic changeling), and Alex (human involved in faerie crime), as well as Ashwynn's half-siblings Willow (oldest, next in line for the throne of the Unseelie court), Rowan (second-oldest, not pleased about Willow being next in line), and Aisling (youngest, small pointy-eared ball of energy and chaos).
1. The one hosting the game?
Probably Leah, because she's the only one who'd really think of it. Alex just wouldn't, and the faeries don't know much about human board games.
2. The one bringing the snacks/cooking?
Absolutely Willow, although Alex might turn up with a bag of chips.
3. The one moderating the game and annoyed by the others?
Well, I would say Willow, but all four faeries would be finding as many loopholes as they could and obeying only the letter of the rules, not the spirit. Alex would just be blatantly cheating. So probably Leah.
4. The one stuck in jail with the worst luck?
100% Alex, even with his magically-enhanced luck. He stole a self-playing game of Monopoly from a troll one time and now he must pay the consequences.
5. The one preferring to watch others play?
Rowan, who doesn't see the need to 'lower himself to playing a silly human game'. (He would prefer to sit out, but his siblings dragged him along and they're going to make him play whether he likes it or not. He won't admit it, but he secretly starts enjoying it.)
6. The one who thought they were going to play video games when they heard 'game night'?
Surprisingly, none of them. Alex would be the most likely culprit, but he made sure to check ahead of time. Leah's the one organising it, and the faeries have never played video games (magic and technology don't mix well, plus they wouldn't be able to use the controllers if they contained iron).
Tagging... uhhh... actually, I don't know who to tag. So... I'll just leave this as an open tag, I guess? If anyone would like to be on my tag list for these things, please please let me know, I legitimately don't know who I could tag for this.

08/09/24: Back to drafting!
Tumblr media
I have spent the last week and a half copy editing and proofreading II: The Rebel Coven, getting it ready for its release on September 1st. So it had been a little while since I had worked on the children's portal fantasy that I am currently drafting. I was nervous about getting back to it today. But the session went really well!
I wrote longhand, so I only got about 700 words written, but the ideas were really flowing, and I was transported right back to this 'Faerie Land' that I have been creating. And now a quote from one of my favourite books, The Wind in the Willows, describing how I thought this morning's session would go:
"The Rat pushed the paper away from him wearily, but the discreet Mole took occasion to leave the room, and when he peeped in again some time later, the Rat was absorbed and deaf to the world; alternately scribbling and sucking the top of his pencil. It is true that he sucked a good deal more than he scribbled; but it was joy to the Mole to know that the cure had at least begun."
Sincerely,
MD Luna
