Day 1 - First Meeting

He's confused and angry about his new form and has been wandering for the past few weeks, she's not able to intuit that "not wanting to be bothered"-ness.

so they're friends now :)

Woke up this morning, saw that it was @heropartnerweek apparently. Coincidentally, I planned to draw more of Fae and Reine (that's his name now, I've decided).

Did this much quicker than usual pieces this size (like a few hours, mostly focused instead of on-and-off for a couple weeks) and it suffers less than I expected! Maybe I can do these kinda faster than ~two weeks... Idk the extent that I can do the other prompts in a timely manner tho, woof.

Staff getting along with Pokémon:

It was inevitable that the staff will also have a nice bonding moment with the Pokémon as well. Hopefully the adults would have less shenanigans than the students… though Crowley is a so-so on this one.

Crowley + Corviknight

“This creature may as well be the mascot for Night Raven College! Such sleek dark feathers and an intimidating expression, how is it possible that a child possesses this mighty beast?!”

Phoebe was brushing Corviknight’s metal body one afternoon along with some other Pokémon, it was during that time when Crowley dropped by the Ramshackle dorm to drop off more responsibilities on the prefect when he dropped what he was carrying at the sight of the metal bird.

His gasp of awe startled Phoebe as she looks at the headmaster who acts as if he’s never seen any other large Pokémon already. Crowley starts his babbling how he has never gotten the chance to see this majestic beast. Phoebe has to explain to him that this was Corviknight and its currently being brushed and bathed.

Crowley just tells her not to mind him and makes the excuse that he wants to observe how she routinely cares for her Pokémon since it might be useful for an educational essay. As if anyone would read an essay that’s based on creatures that sound made up despite Twisted Wonderland being a world full of fae and mermaids.

Corviknight feels a bit uncomfortable when Crowley is staring at it but it seems like everything it does from preening its feathers and even interacting with another Pokémon seems to fascinate him. Phoebe thinks he’s starting to become another Rook Hunt if he keeps this up. Its ironic to see how both of them are birds of the somewhat same feather but the other doesn’t seem to want to be in the other’s company.

Divus + Furfrou

“What have we here? A rather interesting puppy, and such such silky fur it has. Do you mind me borrowing it a bit? I want to see he beauty this canine has”

Divus spotted Fufrou who was being brushed by Phoebe in the school garden. Of course, being a dog-lover, he would immediately ask her what this beautiful specimen was. Phoebe would definitely show him the pictures of the different styles that Furfrou could be groomed into and Divus would probably want to take the Pokémon to be groomed.

He would have Fufrou match his black, white and red aesthetic and wished that he had a poodle like this, strong and even able to use moves that go beyond normal canines. Furfrou does seem fond of Divus so Phoebe let the Pokémon tag along Divus but still makes sure to keep an eye on it to make sure it doesn’t disturb him.

There was not trouble it seems, the students even encourage her to let Furfrou tag along Divus more because he’s less strict that way.

Mozus + Glameow

“This cat is almost like my Lucius, but it has a more… cunning personality, I suppose cats will still be cats even in your world”

Glameow was allowed to wander off the Ramshackle dorm since it would just act like any other cat. Grimm prefers that it sneaks off somewhere because it took joy on being a nuisance towards him. Swiping the best part of his meals, tugging his tail and scampering away.

It wandered into the staff room one day and it was spotted by Lucius, the cat was struck by cupid and immediately jumped off Mozus’ desk to strut towards Glameow. The professor’s eyes followed his familiar to see another cat with a rather spring-like tail, being courted by Lucius.

Being the cat magnet that he is, Glameow purrs into his hand and rubs against his pants. He figured that this creature belongs to Phoebe, he was about to go find her and remind her to keep an eye on her Pokémon when Phoebe passed by the staff room, Glameow darted to the girl, meowing happily while Grimm looks appalled and gets a few feet away.

Mozus proceeds to ask her if she was aware one of her creatures were wandering the hallways. Phoebe looked sheepish but she says that Glameow always wanders around but it always comes back and it doesn’t cause much trouble, Grimm mumbles how it was not behaved. Mozus can see how well-behaved Glameow is but still warns her that it should not wander into the hall of mirrors, especially in Savannaclaw. Phoebe nods her head and walks off with Glameow in tow who meowed a goodbye to the stern professor.

Glameow will definitely make detours to the staff room, Mozus would have an extra bowl of high-quality cat food and milk for the Pokémon, and Lucius gets to spend more time to spend with his crush.

Vargas + Falinks

“What an energetic little guy! Come on, show me what you got!”

One would think that Ashton Vargas would get along with Pokémon that look strong but he just so happens to witness the sparring session between Corviknight and Falinks. The way the small formation would parry the attacks from the large metal crow is impressive to Ashton.

Falinks would be invited to train the students during PE, Riddle and Azul absolutely dislike how it always manages to overpower them despite the short stature. The PE teacher one time tried sparring with Falinks and he ended up on the ground, it was a rare moment because Ashton has been defeated and in all his life, he was considered the strongest.

He doesn’t go down like a sore loser; he just gets up and announces to the Pokémon that they’re now proper rivals. He pats Phoebe on the back to praise her talents for having such strong Pokémon, the pat sent her to the ground.

Sam + Trevenant

“You certainly fit my shop’s aesthetic very well, here’s a reward for you and that Phoebe kiddo for helping me out”

Sam was having problems about sneaky students who try to sneak in through the back door of his store due to the security cameras shutting down. It would take at least two weeks to have the new security system installed. Though he does have those mysterious shadows to keep the store safe from the inside, the outside is what he lacks any security. Phoebe offers to lend him Trevenant until Crowley bring in the new set of CCTVs.

Trevenant looks close to an actual tree and it fits the aesthetic of the shop, Sam agrees and promises to look after his new helper. Trevenant is quite curious about the man and his store, during the daytime it has signboards hanging from its branches to advertise new products and sales. But during the night, it was able to scare off any intruders, there were rumors about a monster tree that stalks the shop every night.

Phoebe decides not to say anything about it and have them believe what they want. Trevenant got a present from Sam, it was a music box with a wooden bird inside it, the Pokémon is very fond of the gift.

Day 2 - Evolution, as part of @heropartnerweek

Reine and Fae Imagine eachother's evolved forms:

Reine: (Fae would probably be... about the same? She'd be a lot larger, that would be OK. I'm not sure what to say, it hasn't happened yet.)

Fae: Reine likes to drape himself in cloth and stuff and also he can be really strong and resilient. So, as a Lucario, I think he'd become really confident and even stronger and be, like, a local superhero!!!

So far on schedule for this thing, no anti-aliasing on this one tho. I did work today, so that really cut into my drawing time, lol. I might be learning not to overthink every little detail, I hope.

Timelapse for this piece. 3411 frames, but I'll admit sometimes I'll pause the auto-snapshot script to make detours for small adjustments that I don't know I want to go through on >.< and don't want to embarrass myself? I know the time-lapse goes so fast that just not pausing the script would probably save time and result in a more complete end result; but, in my defense- actually idk why I don't just do that.

Fae's spring-tail took quite a while to get right and I wasn't happy with the first result. Second time around went a lot faster and I also really like the bow I put on her tail!!! The parts that went the quickest were my favorite parts to make :> Like Purugly's tail-fluff corset.

Fae's got a smile on her for most of the piece, but the intent was always for her to have the more vacant bug-eyed stare and I just wanted a placeholder to cheer me on :3

I don't like how I didn't have a background, I even make a little picture frame at some point in the timelapse. Nothing ended up in the piece I initially published and that's been kinda upsetting me a bit. Like, I spent time getting the tail *just right* only to completely neglect the background??? So I've gone back and thrown together a little background and I think it turned out pretty good.

I replaced the original post with that version. If you don't care to look back at it just to see that new background, here's an alt version where I replace Fae with a more generic Glameow:

Fae is the team partner of Reine. She considers him her best friend.

She can be very naive and her plans often rely on a ton of contingencies that could realistically not work out. She’s an expert as setting herself up for disappointment and can get dejected for a while upon failing, but she’s relatively emotionally resilient and can get back in the groove somewhat easily.

Her and Reine get along well, though she struggles a bit with his boundaries.

Permissions:

-Fae Forms a team with Reine, but you don't *need* to draw them together. I would like it tho :3

-Feel free not to include the frills on her neck and limbs if you don't want to. I also regularly forget to draw the white on her ear points and her whiskers; so I won’t hold anybody to that standard either!

-Fae's fangs are more oriented towards the front of her face, but not all the way. Make an image search for "Rita Jungledyret" for a good reference character from which I took a lot of inspiration.

-Fae's bow should be similar to the reference, I consider her fur color to be similar to the gray color of a normal Glameow, but feel free to make her a similar shade of blue as in the reference. Whichever you prefer.

Reine is the human-turned-pokemon teammate of Fae.

He is often suspicious around pokemon other than Fae; even then he has a few reservations, but they get along pretty well for the most part!

He can be pretty headstrong and overly self-reliant, overexerting himself and getting inadvertently injured in his antics. He’s sensitive to rejection and he proactively and silently burns bridges if he perceives it coming.

Reine comes across as somebody who doesn’t really care about anybody- sometimes including himself- but he does!

Permissions:

-Reine Forms a team with Fae, but you don't *need* to draw them together. I would like it tho :3

-Dress him up

-You can injure him if you want, just nothing that won’t heal.

-Reine isn't a big smiler and tries to keep a straight face, compare the faces of him unclothed vs clothed in the reference picture for a rough guideline of his neutral vs happy face respectively. 

Oliver is an employee of the guild-equivalent organization of my PMD-based world. He does various administrative tasks. He’s pretty laid back and permissive, but he can be serious if the occasion calls for it.

Permissions:

-Give him boxers or shorts if you want, rough up his hair to make him a little more homely.

I like to imagine Fae picked out the costume for Riolu and just didn't have the time to put one together for herself and just put on a pair of horns. Truthfully, I couldn't really think up much more than the horns that wouldn't have ended up a complete mess, but I'm real proud of how she came out in this one; a real glowup from my initial drawings of her!

I think Riolu looks good, the best drawing I have of him yet, but something on it's angled a bit weird, I think, and I'm not sure how to fix it; it's done though! I've felt real improvement recently and haven't really been feeling that weird feeling of inauthenticity in my art too often recently.

I feel like the composition is a little bit weird here, I kinda placed Fae and Riolu before thinking about the background, so they're a bit off-center and it kinda has this amateur photo feel to it. Couldn't figure out what I wanted for the background, so just gave a ton of real-estate to the stars over this Elysian field. The stars were pretty fun to do; the moon came first, but it was a super last-minute thing this morning fixing it up because I was super disappointed with it initially and I can now say: it looks pretty good!
