Fae & Fortitude by @sparklyhyperbole
Monster Hunter AU | Teen | AO3 | Complete
Synopsis: Link is careful with precious things. He doesn't have very many of themâ well, just her actually, and ten years as a monster hunter has taught him that Hylians can be just as monstrous as Hinox.
Content Warnings: Some displays of graphic blood and injury
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Fae&Fortitude is a story about monster hunter Link and fae Zelda. Through little glimpses into Link's live as a monster hunter, we learn about the harsh world he's living in and how he met the princess of the faeries. In her tiny faerie form, Zelda accompanies Link everywhere, even into battle, much to Link's sorrow. When he accidentally brings her into a dangerous situation, things go down fast, but thankfully for us readers, their bond is strong enough to overcome the obstacles set up for them. I first discovered this story and sparklyhyperbole's writing through zelinktines and immediately fell in love with the style. Sparklyhyperbole's prose is iridescent like Zelda's wings and I've been a fan ever since, no matter which story I read. - ZeldaElmo
Oh, so, so magical. The way CrepesnLasagna weaves words together to paint a picture is truly beautiful. Lovely and romantic. Zelda and Linkâs relationship in this is fascinating. I love her childish, spunkiness and his no-nonsense approach. Such a departure from how they are typically portrayed. They compliment each other perfectly, and the ending... gorgeous story-telling from beginning to end. - Mistress Lrigtar
A charming exploration of a grim Hyrule and two characters falling absolutely in love with each other in a dangerous, rogue land. Absolutely worth falling in love with these two as they travel together to find each other and their space together in their world. - amelias-hart

This past week, my brain took me by the shoulders to say,
"You know what would be fun? Applying some new knowledge to old writing."
But because I am an adult, I said "too busy," and turned my nose back to that new chapter Of Trust and Trickery caved immediately.
So this is my courtesy post to acknowledge that Cherished underwent heavy (emotional support) editing for tension, thematic unity, narrative voice andâŠwell, quality. đ
The plot remains as it ever was.
That is all. Carry on.
#FYI#Fae and Fortitude#Writing#Botw AU#Zelink fanfic#Monsterhunter Link#Fairy Zelda#It needed so much help and I was thrilled to be able to SEEE it.

The only reason Owen does not lick the battery is because one or more of his children is nearby and he needs to be a good role model. There's a reason his life started going wildly off the rails when he went off on his own. The man met his wife because he got his ass kicked by a man who was aggressively flirting with her and a friend in a shitty London bar. His impulse control is lacking.
Edward would lick the battery solely because he got dared to and Captain Proulx and Hakim weren't around the say no. The crew is found family and that includes asshole older siblings.
Leon would first need to ask what a battery was, followed by why he should lick it. Whether he actually does is reliant solely on where he is in the story. If it's before the start of the story he would because the reasonable ghosts in his head would insist he not, if it's mid or post story he wouldn't lick the battery because he's got responsibilities now.
Writers' Chat: Your characters are dared to lick a battery. What happens?
Who licks it? Who refuses? Who's too confused to even give a response? Share how you think your characters would act so we can learn more about them, andâas alwaysâplease lick responsibly.

We Had a Baby! (For a Grade?) - PT 1 -Malleus
Putting a divide up and a notice that Malleus' part WILL reference what he looked like in his younger fae form. For those that have made it through book seven, you know. For those that haven't made it to book seven, well...maybe skip this part.
Also...I thought these would be on the shorter side and I'd fit in multiple people but I guess Malleus is special. I'll try to be shorter with the other parts to get more people in.
Finding "Mal" names were hard, man.
Note: in this piece, book seven hasn't happened so this is the first time that Silver and Sebek are seeing fae eggs.
I'm trying out a hybrid style for this because it would be waaaay too long if I just typed it all in story form. Some story, some bullet points.
Not proofread. Need to give my eyes a break. Will review it later.
Malleus
The idea seemed positively strange to the Dragon Prince--people of your world treating sustenance as children? That didn't seem very productive of society at all! How were you to thrive as a species? What would a bag of flour do for you when you fell ill in old age? How could a potato assist you if you could not eat it?
Professor Crewel was also intrigued with the idea, so much so that he made it into an assignment. The puzzling introduction of your society's fondness for turning food into family quickly became a monologue on culturing fortitude, overcoming challenges, and assuring the class that this assignment met the 'general life skills' criteria expected of NRC and their excellent mages.
Crewel wouldn't admit it for anything less than a foolproof spell that could make Crowley competent, but he, Trein, and Vargas had bets on what the children would look like. They also had their preferred parents, of course. Given that he was the instructor of the class, he could pick as he pleased.
And he would. And he did.
He was very intrigued with the idea of fae offspring, as he had encountered (and rescued) only smaller species over the course of his potion-making career. Malleus was of impressive size and rare lineage so what would a baby version of him look like?
Like the rest of the class, Crewel was silent and stunned when the two of you stepped out of the summoning circle to see five shiny, pebbly eggs. The eggs were quite large and they had an iridescent sheen to them that could almost pass for a trick of the light. Upon closer inspection, the eggs had almost a geometric, scale-like pattern to them. Some spots thinner than others, giving a suggestion of something curled up inside.
Something warm and joyous roared in Malleus. A jolt of...something...struck deep at his core and all his nerves sang at once. Was this the parental instinct? He felt his eyesight sharpen, honing in on his clutch. His pointed ears flexed, somehow taking in the myriad of sounds around him to the point where he could tell Epel's nose was stuffed and Trey had a dry throat. Magic radiated off of him, sensed but unseen as it seeped into various objects around the room and things began to jump and float.
You picked up the nearest egg and he found it positively endearing. It was nearly as big as your torso! "We got eggs?" you were absolutely confused and held it out to him as if he could explain.
"Indeed! A fine bunch!" Malleus scooped up the other four and excused himself. The specks of green magic had just died when he returned with a basket woven from black briars. Humming and glittering with magic, Malleus gestured for you to put your egg in the vacant spot. The briar vines were alive, curling carefully around the other eggs--thorns facing out--and acting as individual holders.
Something in you said no and you weren't sure why. You just...didn't want to let it go. The egg seemed to pulse against you. "No," you shook your head as Malleus re-wove the briar vines to wrap around his body like some sort of vest, "my egg."
He let out a peal of laughter, head tilted back. Fae were nothing if not protective of their young. Dragon fae were a league above. Perhaps the eggs had cast an enchantment on their magicless parent? Or were his tendencies rubbing off on you? Either way, it was precious.
He'd want nothing less out of his partner.
Anything Crewel said was lost on Malleus, the future king looking over his shelled children as if they were the most precious jewels. His attention was recaptured by the sight of Deuce helping wrestle the assignment binder into your bag. Realizing this was the class that didn't have Lilia, Sebek, or Silver, he requested the class NOT breathe a word to the other Diasomnia students.
It was meant as a request but it came off as more of a decree. A command.
He wanted to give Lilia a proper scare. It was only fair, given his constant nagging and fretting over eggs. The old bat was more than due for a good startle.
"Come, Child of Man!"
You were surprised Malleus wanted to walk to Diasomnia instead of teleport. He explained that dragon eggs were nurtured by the same things that created them--magic and love. The basket was steadily infusing the eggs with his magic, strengthening the children aiding in proper growth. Teleporting may startle them and bursts of magic weren't really suitable for egg development. "So, wait, you love me?"
Your smile was teasing but no less beautiful to him. "Of course," he said with an honesty and ease that hinted at his sheltered upbringing, almost bewildered that you couldn't understand that yourself. "Ceaselessly. That's why Lilia separates us. It would be far too easy to make eggs. Advantageous, though. You can never have enough dragon fae!"
All you could do was blush. Malleus was quite happy with himself. The eggs wiggled and clattered softly against each other, their version of bouncing with delight. You were quite a fertile partner! It was rare enough to sire one egg every few hundred years but you had five!
If you became fae, how many clutches would you have? Malleus wanted a big family, personally. Perhaps one day a Draconia would rule each dorm at NRC! He at least wanted enough that no one felt sick trying to eat a birthday cake.
Malleus flung the door to Diasomnia open with enough force that it ricocheted off the stone, unable to control his strength in his excitement. "Behold, I have sired!"
Sebek was the only noticeable victim, midway through a sip of tea. He practically sucked the cup dry and began to choke. He didn't know whether to lean between his legs and let things drain or throw himself over the back of the couch and clear his throat. Lilia dropped his cup and saucer, tea spilling onto the couch and cup splintering on the floor as he took to beating Sebek on the back. The poor boy was basically being ground into the stone.
You wondered if Lilia looked terrified at the idea of Sebek choking or the sight of the eggs in the basket. His hair was more pointed than usual, seeming to float in distress. Silver had been jostled awake but couldn't quite understand what he was looking at.
These three didn't have potions until later on in the week so Malleus spoiled the lesson for them. Poor Lilia still looked like he wanted to have a heart attack. "We should tell Queen Maleficia."
"Perhaps when they hatch," Malleus was already looking for things to make a nest. It was imperative that his children were comfortable and guarded. You as well! He actually had the brilliant idea to build the nest with you at the center so the children could feel the love you emitted. Yes, you may be a different species and there would be many things to discuss about handling fae but he had no doubts of your capacity to love them.
Your nest was finished off with a fine, fluffy blanket that was surprisingly warm. Far warmer than it looked. "It is made of dragon scale," Malleus explained as he fanned it out over you and the clutch until he was satisfied, "we dragons can repurpose our shedding into things with magical properties."
"These blankets are usually familial gifts," Lilia added as he swept up the pieces of his broken cup. "They're handy for fighting the hibernation instincts when the colder months come."
"What if it's too warm for the kids?"
To hear you say the word 'kids' sent his stomach curling and churning in a way that left him oblivious to your worries. He's surprised a sixth egg didn't spawn, honestly.
What if they couldn't handle the heat as well since you were human? Wouldn't it, like, cook them?
"Fear not, my child of man. Draconias require heat, as we are a fire-breathing variant of dragon fae. They will be fine."
You hummed interestedly and resigned yourself to laying there for a while. It was weird to feel the eggs wiggling and pulsing around you. When you slipped out to grab your binder and see just what this assignment entailed, you were delighted to find Malleus almost stubbornly sticking himself under the blanket. It was for a constant infusion of magic, he said, but you were sure he just didn't want to leave the children alone. He looked obscenely happy to be around the eggs, squishing his lanky form down to touch all five.
The assignment was pretty basic---watch the kid (or kids) for a week and fill out some pages on height, weight, favorite activities, foods, and have them work on a few worksheets so Crewel could review their cognitive development. There were even spots to put handprints and footprints!
"How long do dragon fae even take to hatch?" you asked as you flipped through the assignment. "What if they're not hatched in a week?"
"It's an advanced spell so I'm sure the incubation process will be sped up, too." Lilia rubbed his chin thoughtfully. "But dragons hatch at different rates. There's a lot of factors involved."
"Which is why you should come back to the nest. Maybe they'll hatch faster if we're together." Malleus peeled back a corner of the blanket for you, eggs already clustered in his lap. You humored him, sliding back in and taking two of the eggs. The blanket was pooled around you now, eggs on full display. Silver and Sebek hovered at the edge of the nest, wanting to touch the eggs but a little hesitant.
"Only a little," Malleus cautioned them, his eyes bright. "I don't know if they would funnel your magic."
"Nonsense, my boy," Lilia returned with a thick book and tapped it on Malleus' head gently. "I held you plenty and I was fine. The eggs need to be exposed to all kinds." his clever ploy of handing Malleus a book of names in exchange for an egg almost cost him an arm.
"Instinct," Malleus apologized, letting go. His cheeks were tinged with pink.
"Likewise," Lilia gave him a cheeky smile, egg now cradled to his chest. He held it with both hands and bounced it a little. "This one might be a boy. Feels as heavy as you did!"
The book fell open to the 'M' section and you found it a bit curious. It was even weirder when you realized it fell open to MAL as if this section had been searched for a thousand times. "We Draconia have a tradition with our names," Malleus explained, pointing to his. "As followed by my mother," he pointed to 'Maleanor', "and her mother before her," he pointed to 'Maleficia'.
Thus began a discussion of names. Sebek and Silver were more than happy to give their input. They were quite handy in making sure the names weren't TOO weird. After hearing some of the ones that came out of Lilia's mouth, you could tell Silver was happy to get off with such a simple name. "I was actually thinking of renaming you at one point, you know," Lilia looked at the silver-haired boy, "too many people thought your name was too close to 'iron'. They thought you'd be unlucky."
"I like my name." Silver mumbled quietly.
After what felt like hours, you settled on five names: Malachite, Malum, Mallar, Malchus, and Malric. Lilia had picked up all the eggs and was convinced they were boys. You weren't sure how fae could judge gender from an egg, but he'd been around a lot longer than you. Malleus was so engrossed in the name exchange that he hadn't noticed Lilia sneaking the eggs off his lap to give them to Silver and Sebek. The sight of everyone holding an egg was sweet, you thought.
And realistic. If Malleus ever did have children, Silver, Sebek, and Lilia would be crucial in their lives.
The egg in your lap began to rattle. A deep crack formed at the top. Malleus quickly put it next to his. Three eggs hemmed the two. Hatchings usually happened together, you supposed, because the cracking of the first egg seemed to cause small cracks in the one next to it.
These little eggs were practically hatching in your lap and you were too scared, to in awe, to move them. You saw glimpses of wet scales, tiny horns, little claws, and maybe a tail before they started climbing out of the eggs. It was a very slimy affair. "A double! OH SEVENS, A DOUBLE!" Lilia practically inhaled a piece of eggshell when two little dragons climbed out of one egg. Malleus separated them gently, holding one each by their tender little bellies. He cooed at them.
"This one smells different," Malleus narrowed his eyes at the one in his right hand. Lilia gave it a cautious sniff.
"It's a girl!" Lilia, Sebek, and Malleus gave the others another smell in case the missed the gender. End result: five boys, one girl. 'Malin' was a maybe name that became a real one. Lilia ran off to tell Maleficia--somehow? You weren't sure how. Couldn't imagine a Queen having a cell phone--while the four of you started trying to get...claw prints...for the assignment.
Human babies, you had an idea of. Fussy when hungry, wet, and practically anything else but dragon babies were on a different level! You felt like you were wrestling a big cat! They were on the playful side, thankfully, but touching their claws and tiny pads earned gummy nips and a lot of writhing.
Silver was having the easiest time, somehow. Sebek had already been tail-slapped and gummed. A second dragon was climbing up his back and pawing at his hair. You had huffy, smoky protests and some scratches from the one in front of you; the other was currently chewing on your shirt and pulling at it. Malleus was locked in the growl version of a 'yes-no' as his dragon baby rolled every which way but onto the paper correctly.
This was going to be a long week.
Your week consisted of:
Trying to find a way to differentiate them. You tried painting their claws a certain color but that went as well as trying to get a print for the assignment. Tying cute little bandannas and things around their necks just caused a bunch of shredded mess to be cleaned up. You finally learned to tell them apart by the slight color difference in their bellies
Malric and Malin getting into fights consistently, tangling themselves into a big ball of scales and snarling and nipping at each other. The other three were usually a casualty. Malachite figured out he could separate them by flopping on top of them when they rolled by.
Malum was a biter and Mallar was a head-butter. When the twins turned on Malachite (as they often would), Mallar would come out of nowhere to headbutt Malric. You don't know how Malin escaped practically unscathed when she was literally half the problem. Malchus was your 'they're doing it again!' alarm child.
Lots of baby dragon ambushes. You're only holding ONE of them? HOW DARE YOU! You will soon find yourself besieged by baby dragons as they crawl over each other to cuddle and get attention. It doesn't matter what you were doing or holding before the onslaught.
Finding random piles of equally random things. Malleus says they're trying to build their hoard. Random 'hoards' you've found include: socks, silverware, pens, pencils, buttons, and several Diasomnia hats.
They learn to blow smoke at each other when they have their dragon arguments and it's not uncommon for windows to be opened to air Diasomnia out. Malleus is highly amused.
Zoomies at night. Because they're dragon fae, they're nocturnal and they don't understand you need to sleep. They usually sleep in a supervised pile in Malleus' room but will cause an UNGODLY amount of noise if they're not entertained.
They have cuddle piles when they sleep. Silver is main cuddle pillow. He's practically smothered by baby dragons but they all make these tiny, happy chirps when they nap with him. Sebek tried to wake Silver up and got three clouds of smoke blown at him all at once.
Taking them to NRC on Day 1 was a terrible, terrible idea. They were after anything that wasn't nailed down (for the hoard), wanted to climb everything, and would randomly squirm out of your arms to follow the students if something interested them. Idia about pissed himself when he noticed one had followed him to flying class.
Making it through a day of classes was almost impossible. Lilia, Sebek, and Malleus were constantly texting each other to do a kid count after Idia brought Malachite back. You didn't even know that Mallar had disappeared (you had Malin and Malum) until you heard about Sebek interrupting one of Cater's lives to snatch the baby dragon from him! After nearly giving Trein a heart attack and politely rescuing Lucius from Malin, the teachers agreed to make all of your assignments 'take home' until the kids were more...controllable.
You want to try socializing them again on Day 2 but Lilia insists they're still too feral and he doesn't want a repeat of Day 1. He has found immense joy in the laser light Idia gave him. It keeps him AND the kids occupied!
You and Malleus are doing constant kid counts. More than once you've only found five instead of six and Lilia is usually the culprit. Malchus is the number one victim.
They get their human form on day 3. You're not too hurt that they look like copies of Malleus. It's a spell and he's the one that has magic. He argues that some of the kids have your eye color, though. Malum has your hair color.
After Day 3, things get considerably easier. Feeding them is no longer a thing where you might have to write your will in advance. They're more open to trying things and quit trying to eat off of each other's plates like they'll never see food again. You think you see some sharing!
They speak in small sentences and prefer to point to things they want. Their favorite thing to do is to hang off of someone's shoulders (usually Malleus) and just guide them to what they want.
Malric likes spicy food, Malin prefers salty things, Malum is your unexpected sweets kid, Malchus devours all things citrus and sour, Malachite will eat a whole loaf of bread if you don't watch him, and Mallar is the pickiest eater.
Malum is your gentle cuddlebug
Mallar has physically fought Lilia over dinner because he didn't want to eat what Lilia cooked. He was the first one to breathe fire and almost burned Lilia's nose.
You measured the children for the assignment and was surprised to see that Malum was tallest. He spent so much time cuddled up to you that you didn't notice. Malachite is second-tallest, Malric just after him, with Malin and Mallar being tied for shortest.
Silver takes them on a walk through the woods every afternoon. He makes everyone hold hands. Malleus isn't far behind and usually steals one to ride on his shoulders.
Despite how loud he is, none of the kids really listen to Sebek. Malleus and Lilia make them listen. Malachite is the first to leave room when Sebek gets loud. Malin is most likely to comfort him and make an effort. She coaches him, to your surprise ("People would like you more if you weren't so loud.")
Lilia invites Baur over to see the children because he just has to brag. Something about the intimidating crocodile fae sends Mallar into a hissing, gouging mood and Baur is most amused. He play wrestles with them (as much as a stern-faced ex warrior plays) and thinks they'll make fine fighters one day.
Malin accidentally scratched a scale off of him and got a little worried. Baur and Lilia were in shock. "A fine princess! You'll take after your grandma one day!" Lilia smiled.
Day 4 is a visit from Queen Maleficia herself and you don't know what to think. The kids have all huddled around you--protecting you--as they assess this new dragon. You expected her to be much harsher, getting the anti-human warnings and all, but she's nicer than anticipated. The most she said to you was 'Impressive clutch size' but that counted, right?
Malchus, your favorite kitchen helper, caught what he thought was a look from her. One aimed at you. He looks her dead in her face and says, 'If you don't like them, I won't love you for a thousand years."
She laughed so hard you didn't know what to think. Neither did Lilia.
Queen Maleficia brought them little trinkets and snacks from Briar Valley. Their favorite thing was a back-scratcher. They sat at her feet for hours, just letting that rough weird brush go over them. The dragon vocals were in full swing and she answered them in dragon speak. She was impressed with how they helped Lilia set the table and had a good laugh at Mallar saying, "If you don't let Lilia cook I will love you for a thousand years."
It was an unexpected visit but it couldn't have gone too badly because there was no lightning involved (according to Lilia).
Day 5 saw you trying to integrate the kids into NRC. It went much smoother this time but there were still disappearances. And favorites.
Malin seemed to like hanging out with Jack and Trey the most and got in trouble more than once for trying to pick pieces of fur off of Crewel's coat.
Mallar liked Cater and Kalim; Mallar was actually one of the more outgoing kids.
Malchus found company with Epel and Jamil. He'd go on and on about how Epel talked funny and Jamil made the most delicious food ever.
Malachite thought Idia's hair was cool and wanted to know what all of his 'strange stuff' did. That discussion led to Rook butting in and saying how cool Science Club was, so Malachite ended up following Rook around to learn things after Idia's people battery was drained.
Malric was heavily influenced by Ace; the two had gotten in trouble for letting the flamingos out but he didn't care because he got to ride one. He promptly stole Riddle's tiny crown while the redhead attempted to lecture him and only gave it back after Malleus literally dragged him to the throne room of Heartslabyul and held him up by the back of his shirt like a sad puppy.
Malum liked to stick with Silver but was encouraged to get to know Riddle while learning to ride horses. The young dragon was impressed by what Riddle knew and asked him a million questions. Riddle suggested he get to know Azul, but Malum quickly decided that friendship was not for him. Azul smelled funny and he had an overwhelming urge to bite him. In the end, his favorite person on campus was Lucius (even though that doesn't count).
They wrote down who they hung out with, what they liked, and what they did for Crewel before taking their assessments.
The end of the assignment saw you and Malleus with an A; the kids were healthy and strong. Their assessments were all above average but Crewel could see that only Malachite and Malum actually tried. Malric did it because he was nagged, Malchus was told he'd sit there for however long it took (no interest whatsoever), and Malin did it with such disdain her papers were actually singed.
Before the kids disappeared, you were presented with a bunch of scales and shedding. It was heartwarming. Lilia did say the sheddings were familial, after all.
They disappeared in a puff of smoke and you let everything settle. You survived five days with dragons! That was impressive! As if he could read your mind, Malleus said, "Grandmother was impressed, too. She looks forward to her great-grandchildren coming around again."

Pack 141 - Werewolf!Price Headcanons
Tags: monster au, sfw, werewolf!price, mentions of gore and body horror, loose a/b/o dynamics, possessiveness, scent marking, fluff, werewolf lore sprinkled with pack 141 interactions
-A born lycan. The shift was as natural as breathing. And he quickly showed the temperment of an alpha.
-Shifts to the outsider can appear gruesome. As the wolf quite literally emerges from within, human flesh falling away like a gristly chrysalis to reveal the beast beneath. Traditionally, this shed flesh would be devoured, though it isn't commonly practiced today. The flesh disintegrates quite quickly once shed.
-This being said Price can shift in degrees, often enhancing his own claws or teeth for defensive purposes rather than shift completely.Â
-No, the clothes do not magically pop back on once he's done. Shifting completely is inconvenient and typically a last resort. It's difficult to strip in the middle of a fire fight, let alone find his tac bag stark naked after it's all said and done.
-For born wolves, this shift is generally smooth and quick. For those bitten, it is this first shift that often leads to their death. Around 75% of those bitten do not have the bodily fortitude to withstand the change.
-as a born wolf, Price's enhanced senses are also perfectly integrated, and require no sensory aids for him to navigate his daily life unlike the majority of bitten wolves.
-born wolves have a tendency to remain in seclusion, within the safety and comfort of their pack. When a new alpha is born they typically either stay to take over leadership, or stake out a new territory to build their own pack.
-John was quickly ostracized when he showed little interest in either of those things. He seemed to be far more preoccupied with exploring both the world and his own strength. The military amongst the humans would do quite nicely.
-During his tours there would be fleeting encounters with other monsters, typically enemies. But a few comrades as well. Such as Nikolai, a bear shifter. The pair of lycans got along beautifully.
-Now, despite his former pack's opinions of him, John had never explicitly said he didn't want a pack, just not their version of a pack. No. John had a different idea in mind.
-Simon was the first. A strong and brutal human, who had shown an endearing gentleness in certain circumstances. Price had decided immediately that Simon would belong to him. He just needed some final paper work to build his pack task force. He had even settled on changing Simon himself, despite the risks. A bloody vampire had beaten him to it. Price was hardly angry that Simon's humanity was taken from him, just that Simon had to suffer in such a way to get there. At least Price had the pleasure of siring the newborn himself.
-Next had been Soap. A wiley thing with a blatant disregard for orders and big blue eyes that were far too pretty to be all human. Price couldn't decide if he should scruff or praise him for his cheek. But Soap had an excellent knack for mixing things that should absolutely not work, into something that would cave a warehouse in seconds. Along with a distinct aversion to touching certain metals with his bare hands. His peculiarities had earned him a nickname, and also given him away as a Fae. Price would have him too.
-Garrick followed not long after. Sharp and driven Gaz. Incredibly clever with a proud determination that blazed behind those warm brown eyes. Gaz's skills made his inner wolf purr in delight. Another lovely thing for him to keep. Price was taken with him immediately, and had never felt more at ease than with the sergeant he had stolen in Piccadilly.Â
-While he could tell from Kyle's scent that he was something Other. Price would only receive cryptic answers or riddles that only made the younger sergeant chuckle as Price failed to guess correctly. (Price would totally not make up excessively silly answers to see the sergeants pretty smile, oh no).
-It wouldn't be until they were stranded in an excessively hot desert that Gaz would reveal himself. Price had emerged from their tent to see Garrick, posted up like it was summer vacation, with a brilliant golden wing curled over his head to shade him from the sun. A long tufted tail flickering back and forth out of a small cut in his fatigues. Gaz had looked up from his book, golden slitted eyes peering over his aviators. Flashed him a toothy grin. âWanna make another guess Cap?â
-Price has a vicious possessive streak, and he plays it incredibly carefully in the beginning of the task force. He watches his vocabulary when talking about the âteam.â His pack. Perfect, strong and beautiful. All of them. Chosen carefully. He was careful not to spook them at first, worried his possessive language would put them off. But they are, for all intents and purposes, his.
-His possessiveness had manifested subtly at first. Scent marking them. Brushing shoulders or gentle touches as he passed them. He would even resort to smoking beside them if touching seemed out of the question. At least his smoke would soak into their clothes and hair.
-As they fell together it became less subtle. Price couldn't resist sinking his teeth into their flesh as they writhed beneath him. Suck bruises along whatever flesh he could get his mouth on. It was a pro and a con that his boys all healed so well. While his marks did not remain for long, it meant he could only mark them up sooner.Â
-He loves that their scents all intermingle, really. But he can be stubbornly adamant that his scent is the most notable. Often catching Soap or Gaz to tug into his office, kissing the breath out of them, only to curtly send them back out, freshly scented and a bit dazed. It's a fair compromise considering Simon often hogs the sergeants to himself.
-Simon often seeks him out of his own volition. Coming to his office to sit quietly, work on his own reports and bask in Price's scent of spilled ink and warm honey. I loved your fae!141 fic!! Iâd love to see their reaction to the reader perhaps striking something akin to friendship with Konig. Konig helps with their garden and occasionally they share with him the things they make with what they donât send to other him (jams, cakes, sauces, pastries, etc). It can be romantic but I think itâs fun if itâs fully platonic between Konig and reader, just a mutual love of the garden meanwhile the 141 are growing desperate trying to scheme their ways into the readerâs heart
oh boy, i completely forgot i wrote that
That was the intention with König in that fic. Completely platonic and food-motivated. I do have a fae!König that is more romantic on his masterlist.
They've noticed your new pal. They say that word with distaste - brows furrowed, lips curled up, eyes rolling.
The four creatures in front of you are warning you off about your friend that's made it easier to grow in favor of one or two offerings per harvest.
Granted, your friend isn't really a friend - he's terrifyingly large with claws and teeth that could tear you to shreds. He seems docile as long as he gets his pick of the harvest which seems to be happening twice over what you normally yield.
His bellowing doesn't help either - deep like an alligator warning off a larger threat.
You blink at each of their warnings - "He's going to eat you!" "He'll poison you with your crops." "He'll take more of your harvests next time until he has it all." "Once he's done, he'll devour you."
You can see the shift in the forest and try not to draw their eyes to him. You know all of what they're telling you could be true. The large creature seems more obsessed with the fruits of your combined effort than anything to do with you at all. He plucks what he wants now - usually sniffing each ripened vegetable, bean, or berry cluster before taking off with the best one.
You're much more concerned that the three of the four individuals who usually wander upon your property are seemingly well-known to each other. You don't even recognize the fourth. Perhaps the glimpses of the figure dashing off after you find one or two things missing are his doing.
The previous owner, an older woman, had warned you about the trickster spirits of the forest.
"Who?" You ask, feigning ignorance. "And who are.. you? How would you know if anyone's come to visit me? How do you know each other?"
It's one who talks in circles at times that steps forward, trying to smooth over your questions without actually answering any of them. His confidence in his own words would sway someone of a lesser fortitude.
You let him wax on for a bit before interrupting him with a simple, "How do I know you won't eat me?"
It's hard to miss the way they swallow, share a look. Your pleased smile spreads across your lips and you go back to snipping off ripe tomatoes while they hastily whisper with each other. You place it in a basket next to a bundle of sweet peas, carrots, and beetroots.
As soon as you rise to your feet, their talk stops. The familiar bellowing fills the air and you step around them, on the edge of the forest. The basket is offered to the icy blues, your hand never crossing over the threshold of the forest. Claws hook the basket handle and after some noise, it's placed back across the thershold -- the carrots are still in the basket.
"I don't like those orange things."
"I prefer them stewed or roasted. Did you eat them raw?" You ask, ignoring the bickering behind you.
"Ja.. Cook them for me and I will try them again."
"Cook them yourself." You respond flatly.

Little things they like about you
Content: lighthearted | wholesome
The fae wasnât particularly picky with whatever life threw him, as long as he gave himself time and the mental fortitude to handle such. Love, on the other hand, spoke of a different matter. He finds himself craving your presence, just the sound of your voice enough to quell his troubles for the day.Â
He sneaks glances of you when he feels your presence, his ears pricking for a tease of your voice, for any sign of laughter or change in tone. Whether he had spoken to you, the fae always found your presence welcoming - your presence enough to do wonders to his heart. Your presence felt like a panacea, a welcome invitation into oneâs space. He feels a familiar memory whenever he was with you, fragments of centuries flashing him by as familiar faces wash ashore in the banks of his mind.Â
Lilia finds beauty in your hands, so soft and gentle, compared to his callous ones. Heâd find himself playing with your fingers, tracing the imperfections, the lines all over your palms. At times, heâd coo at how delicate your hands are, so precious, an image seemingly reminiscent of hands he had held oh-so-long ago.
The quiet tranquility between you and Lilia was more than enough for him, the content smile on your lips, sunlight casting upon your features like a halo - Lilia thought he had found another embodiment of heaven at first sight. He wishes to have this moment a little longer, if he could be selfish, so he can see to your happiness.Â
Just as how he was able to raise Sebek, Silver, and Malleus, he wishes to ensure your happiness is everlasting. He recalls a faint memory of long ago: a promise he had made with someone he had loved, the bittersweet sensation of a broken promise, cruel tears bordering the corner of his eyes. Alas, he wishes Fate were kind to him for a selfish wish. For now, he could cling onto your presence, a cruel gossamer existence for a fae like him.

Cater was not used to the concept of sustaining friendships. He was fine with keeping each other posted by viewing each othersâ stories on social media, taking pictures together for the memories, and sometimes teasing his peers. He didnât really mind keeping superficial airs for his peers - his cheery demeanor a usual sight for everyone around him - except for you on the other hand.Â
You often reciprocate his antics with a teasing smile on your lips, always ready to quip back when you had the chance. Such reciprocation would catch him by surprise, earning a genuine smile on his lips. He wasnât expecting anyone to return his little teasings, but a strange sensation akin to warmth would encompass his chest, this very interaction engraved in his mind.Â
He would anticipate every interaction with you, anticipating every banter he can think of as a means of interacting with you. Of course, heâd ask for your social media, if you had one, so he can see your posts. Cater would find himself delving into your social media, your likes, and would look for the time to talk to you.Â
At first, heâd be quite shy about it, leaving small comments on your recent posts or boosting your post on his story, sometimes DMâing you about certain things. Of course, heâd love to take the time to get to know you from peering into your story or meeting up with you physically. Yet, in the back of his mind, the thought of you leaving his side haunts him, a bitter pill he might have to swallow if he ever loses you as a friend.Â
Soon, he discovers something beyond the screen; your smile, your laughter, your vivaciousness, something he found quite endearing apart from what he normally sees from your social media. He wishes to preserve such happiness, a rarity that he had the honor to experience. For now, Cater had to keep his cool, the sign of a budding friendship a welcoming omen for his social life.Â
Kalim very much indulging into you, even if it meant spending his family fortune just for a quick smile. He relishes in the way your eyes light up in delight for every trinket he brings you, his heart soaring as soon as he catches a glimpse of your smile. There was something charming about the way you smiled, the way your lips curl to the corners of your lips.Â
If he can perfectly describe your smile in written form, heâd make a poem worth pages long. Such sentiments were pure, sincere, and clear as morning dew, his heart quite heavy with thoughts of you when he peers your smile. If he had a camera, heâd capture the very moment you let your lips curl, an expression he wishes for eternity on your beautiful features.Â
Some say a smile indicated of a window of happiness, an embodiment of oneâs satisfaction in the present moment. Kalim very much embraced that notion, wishing nothing but joyfulness in everyoneâs lives. Such a naive mindset, many would say to Kalim, as life isnât as simple as making one happy with a wave of a wand.Â
Although Kalim was quick to give counters about his naivety, he simply wished for the well-being of others if not bright futures that could merit smiles. In his own words, a smile was something worth protecting, even if something small would bring a temporary smile.Â
He keeps your smile close to his heart, immortalizing it in Polaroids, pictures on his phone, and little text messages exchanged between the both of you. Your smile, the sun, radiant in its beauty, fuels his motivation for the day - another reason why he keeps smiling. Your smile was his sun, as he was also the sun itself, ever bright and forever shining.Â

Summary: You meet Princess Leah.
OT3 Masterlist
When you first meet Princess Leah, you understood why Dawn fell in love with her in your timeline.
Her laugh was as gentle as chiming bells. Her smile a welcoming to a comforting home. Kindness radiated off her.
Lilia was right.
Leah is different from Meleanor. She was soft spoken and tactful in her movements. She might not have the strength of knights and faes, but she exuded grace and protection rivaling even the majesty of any fae or human.
You feel a sort of healing in her presence.
âThank you. This path to peace between humans and fae wonât be easy.â
Leah held your hand, âIâm glad we have you to help us. Iâm happy they have you to love them.â
You canât help it. How was she be related to Henrik?
âIf only Henrick wasnât the way he is.â She sighed.
Lilia was right; Leah is nothing like Meleanor.
They were opposites.
But heâs also wrong.
âIf he wasnât so paranoid, Iâd have poisoned him by now.â
Princess Leahâs eyes shown fortitude and courage.
Faes and humans arenât different.
They would always protect their loved ones at any cost.
You couldnât help the smile and laughter that came from you. You could just imagine the faces Dawn and Lilia would make if they were here.
The princess joins you in merriment.
Was thinking about Princess Leah recently and this came to mind. Leah and Meleanor are different but they are the same too.
I wanted to show that here a bit. While Meleanor is a strong and stubborn princess loved by her people, Leah was known for her kindness and gentle demeanor.
But kindness and gentleness does not mean weakness. We have seen in canon she was ready to sacrifice herself for Silver. She tended to the troops when they were injured.
Two princesses alike and yet different. Very much loved by their people.
I feel sometimes people forget that kindness/gentleness is a type of strength. One of the strongest in fact. Itâs easy to be mean. It takes strength to be kind. đđ«¶
The poisoning was in part inspired by Sally in Nightmare Before Christmas. đ

âThat guy is my pookie, so stop touching himâ!â

Pairings: Multiple Characters X GN! Reader.

Warnings: Unwanted affections, discomfort, etc.
-*-
RIDDLE was aversed by the event, he doesn't know what he should do, he shouldn't lash out at them. He disliked it, being interacted by a stranger unfamiliar to him. They were seemingly intent on speaking to him. Curse his situation, it wasn't good for him. Before he becomes any more uncomfortable, your voice pulled him back to reality when you then rushed to him. The red head scrambled to call you over and get away. He looked okay mostly, except with him forgetting to compose himself as he took your hand into his. Cuddle him and he will be in a pleasant mood!
LEONA could care less or doesn't notice in the beginning since he was taking care of his nephew. He has instinct, yeah sure, but he wasn't always paying attention to his environment, he was keen on waiting for you to arrive from your shopping items and whatnot. So there was someone, they presumably? Asking questions to him, and he was a jerk he usually was to anyone, he didn't answer back to them. And that escalated when they were hitting on him! Needless to say, he was somewhat glad that you showed up before he beat them into a pulp or worse with his hands...
AZUL was smiling maliciously at them. Oh my, what a stupi- he meant fearless individual, one does not hop away unscathed after it. Do boundaries mean nothing to them? How sorrowful! I think he can dissolve this himself, and like Riddle, he doesn't enjoy physical contact too much from nameless civilians in particular. A pity that Jade and Floyd was at Mostro Lounge today, he adjusted his glasses in a thoughtful manner as he pondered about this. How will he resolve it? His train of thoughts was intercepted by your appearance, you drove them away shortly and checked on him.
KALIM was oblivious, he was too nice to understand it, he did keep his distance because he was going on a date with you. And you were looking forward to it as he does! He blanched and shoved them away the minute they attempted to kiss his lips. And by a miracle, you popped out sooner than he anticipated, shielding him behind you as you scolded them and threatened them to leave or else, you whisked your phone out and said you informed the headmaster of their crimes, and they'll be facing consequences. The grin on your boyfriend was ear to ear as he thanked you.
VIL was having a headache, he should have expected it, as if school work wasn't a chore, he had to be worrying about this? You weren't there yet, so he will have to settle it himself, you can be scary if you have to be after all. And him as a renowned celebrity can put you in a tight spot, so he doesn't want that to occur. His vice was at his dormitory, Rook wasn't there with him, what a great time for him, he thought sarcastically to himself. His fortitude can't be that generous with his dilemma, to imagine how you ran straight in to rant at them for him. How gallant of you.
IDIA was screeching internally, he couldn't believe it, why would anyone t-t-talk to him??? He was not happy, this was why he was against coming out of Ignihyde, he should have brought Ortho with him. Because he was out of place and eek..! W-what?! Did they flirt with him? This was weird, he cannot handle this anymore. The almond shaped eyes dorm leader was gripping his tablet like it was his hope. Prefect, where were you? Fortunately for him, you were back from your exploration and headed to him. Much to his relief, they were gone when you gave an energy drink to him.
MALLEUS was fazed by it. Confusion and dread vibrated in his mind. Was this ordinary for humans? The fae was disturbed, more so abhorred with the overwhelming senses of anxiousness as he moved away. He doesn't wish to seem radical. So he resorted to cautioning them to not pet him like that with firmness instead. You were done with your groceries, and walked toward him and it dawned on you what was happening with him. His gaze landed on your form, and the housewarden of Diasomnia beckoned you. Although it made him unnerved, you were there to cheer him up.

Could I request a self aware twst au with like the first years :D?
I want to thank all the people who interacted with that post earlier today. It gave me enough motivation to go out and finish this piece.
While trying to think up concepts for this work, it occured to me that all the first years (except Ortho) were in sports clubs. That means there is one event perfect for you to bond with your first year friends.
Ace kicks a pile of canvas laying in a heap at his feet, âThis is ridiculous! What if something happens while weâre gone!â His mouth twists into an unpleasant grimace. He looks to his basketball club members for backup, but no one will meet his eye. So, he turns to where he knows heâll find support. âOi, Sebek!â The green haired fae is distractedly pounding away at a tent stake nearby but it is easy to see from his expression that his heart isnât in it. âWhat happens if someone tries to kidnap the Player when we arenât there to protect them? You know how famous they are!â Sebek stops hammering and slowly looks up, tears forming in his eyes.Â
âSILVER! SILVER!â he shouts to his clubmate, âWhat if Iâm not there to protect the Player! Forget this event, we must return to the school with ALL HASTE!â He looks to his fellows for support but again, none of the senior students stop what they are doing. Ace, however, is fast to abandon his own camping site and join Sebek. âRight, right?â he eagerly urges Sebek on, âWhat does this even matter if our Player isnât here to see it?âÂ
âStop it,â the sturdy voice of Jack growls, âIt doesnât pay to get worked up over it. This is in the story, so we have to do it. Thatâs just how it is.â Sebek stares at the wolf beastman silently, tears falling from his eyes. âMaybe we can tell them about it later!â Deuce tries to cheer his fellow freshman up, âIâm sure theyâd like to hear about it. They always listened to my card stories beforeâŠwell before it happened. I think theyâd like to hear about this too!â At that Sebek seemed mightily cheered and returned to setting up his tent with gusto, muttering about what heâd tell the Player about later. Ace scoffs, sensing his defeat and returns bitterly to his own site.Â
Epel wanders over and observes Ace silently. âYou finished?â Ace asks in surprise. âYeah, Leona is a great leader and took charge of getting us set up right away!â Epel informs him, âI had time to put up my tent and help Ruggie set up one for Leona too!â Then he looks down and kicks Aceâs sad abandoned tent as well, âI just wish the Player was here to see it. I bet theyâd have been really impressed with how fast I finished.â Ace frowns and complains, âBut they arenât here. They are back at school with the Arts Clubs.â This causes Epel to scowl deeply, âDagnabit! I didnât need a reminder of that! I can just picture those frou-frou artsy types trying to suck up to the Player. Trying to get them to talk different, eat different, justâŠâ He doesnât finish the thought but the way he grinds his teeth shows how he feels about the idea.
The sound of pounding tent stakes and shifting canvas is diminished when the booming voice of Coach Vargas booms out, âListen up, young campers! Now, I know you donât need any additional motivation to showcase your strength and fortitude here after Iâve done an AMAZING job setting up this EXCITING AND ENTERTAINING EVENT!â Here he pauses and casts a quick look over his shoulder before straightening up again. âBut if you do!â Then he smiles a beaming smile and sets his hands on his hips. Thatâs when you pop out from behind him, âHey guys! Guess whoâs here to do their memory keeper duties!âÂ
Ace jumps over his canvas pile in a rush to get to your side and stumbles over it. âWoah, calm down,â you admonish him cheerily, âIâll be here all weekend.â Epel asks in an innocent sounding voice, âYou will? You really will?â You pat the two boys on the shoulder and search out your other first year friends in the crowd. Sebek is sobbing quietly in front of his tent and Deuce is waving excitedly from the distant track club area. Jack gives you a small nod before turning back to his area as though he is unaffected by your appearance, but the cloud of dust kicked up by his wagging tail says otherwise.Â
You turn toward Vargas and look expectantly. He looks blankly back at you until you awkwardly say, âGo on.â He looks at you a moment before clearing his throat, âAh yes, yes. Harumph! Anyway, tents are up! Get over here and listen up for your next task!â Then he looks at you as though seeking your approval to hand out the task. You shrug and then nod as though to say, âSure, go for it.â Vargas gives you a toothy smile and then proceeds to hand out a familiar sounding explanation about the tasks to be assigned to the clubs. You wave lightly before heading back to the cabin to get your own things sorted out. The eagerness of the students fades as fast as your departure.
âSoâŠ,â Deuce begins carefully, âWe are going to try now? Right?â He looks at Ace for confirmation. Jack snorts behind him, âI was always going to try.â Then he makes a fist and puts on an eager smile, âIâm going to knock this challenge out so fast that the Player canât help but notice me!â Deuce turns away from Ace to join Jack instead. The two Track Club members fire each other up over their plans to dominate the camp tasks and stand out to the Player. Deuce quickly becomes so distracted by this that he forgets Ace entirely. This is just the chance Ace has been waiting for to quietly slip away.
âSo, Prefect,â Ace begins as he appears at your side. You yelp and drop your backpack, catching it before it hits the ground and damages your precious ghost camera. âAce!â you shout, âWhat are you doing here? This isnât in the event!â He looks at you quietly and you quickly backtrack, âIâŠI mean, shouldnât you be with the Basketball Club doingâŠsomething?â Ace smiles, happy to have avoided an awkward situation. âNah, Iâm not going to mess around in the woods. Itâs a team effort, so as long as those other guys do the grunt work, Iâll be fine.â You roll your eyes at his attitude. âPlus, why would I want to be anywhere but with my best buddy, eh Prefect?âÂ
You consider this carefully before slyly narrowing your eyes and gesturing to your unbuilt tent. âSure, thing, Pal. Why donât you hang out and help me build my tent.â Ace grimaces, not wanting to do the work but mostly afraid youâll pick up on his lack of tent-building expertise. The odd standoff is concluded when you hear Coach Vargus bellow, âNonsense! That wonât do for either of you! I can hardly deprive the Prefect of the chance to enjoy this stimulating muscle-building activity and as for you Ace, well, you are just slacking off.â Ace starts to stammer as you just stand there cringing. Coach Vargus calmly approaches Ace and lifts him up by his collar.  It reminds you of how you lift a misbehaving Grim by the scruff of his neck. You wave awkwardly at the departing Ace as he looks imploringly at you from the Coachâs grasp. âOh well, you reap what you sow,â you think.
A tiring amount of time later, you brush your hands off on your thighs and declare, âThere, done!â Then you slowly head over to grab your pack holding the Ghost Camera, among other supplies. The sun is barely at its peak, but you are already sweating with exertion from putting up the tent. You wonder how your more athletic friends among the first-year students are handling it. You know they are more used to the effort, but you hope they are taking necessary precautions. Perhaps youâd just remind them and see if they need to borrow some sunscreen.
You know realize that sunscreen was the least of your safety concerns. You watch in disbelief as Sebek continues to scale a sheer cliff in search of a lantern blossom flower. The reaction of the nearby students was mixed. Silver seemed remarkably unconcerned as he spoke to Riddle nearby. Meanwhile, you and several NPC characters were more nervous. âHe is going to fall, isnât he?â you ask the nearby Scarabia A. He looks at you for a long moment and then shrugs his shoulders. You are not reassured at all.Â
You turn instead to Ignihyde C and gesture, âThis game doesnât have a mature rating, so he canât die. Right? Right?â The surprised student looks at you with his mouth falling open before he stammers, âR.right.â Then he looks up at the precarious position of the green haired fae and mumbles, âBut maybe you should cheer him on anyway.â You look more intently at the NPC and demand, âDo you think that would help?â He answers you in a fluster, âW..well, if my oshiâŠI mean friendâŠif my friend cheered me on, I think it would really help me do my best!âÂ
Right. That is just the sort of thing friends do. âHEY SEBEK!â you shout. The fae somehow hears you shout and looks arrogantly over his shoulder at the spectators but when his eye catches your form, he shakes, and you fear he will tumble from the cliff. âHOLD ON SEBEK, YOU CAN DO IT! I BELIEVE IN YOU!â From even the great distance between you, the image of determination that crosses his expression can be seen. He sets off with a renewed vigor, making daring transitions and finding ways to make speedy progress. With several movements that make you gasp and hold your breath; he reaches the lantern blossom and plucks it from the ground.Â
Much faster than the ascent, Sebekâs return to the ground was accomplished quite shortly. He was still a considerable distance up when he leaps from the cliff edge to race to your side and show off his prize. He eagerly holds out the glowing lantern blossom for you to view. âIts so pretty,â you comment politely, âI wish I had one.â He gasps and grabs hold of your hand, forcing the poor battered flower into it. âTHEN YOU MUST HAVE THIS ONE!â You give him a shocked look, âNo really, that is unnecessary. Iâll get one some other day.â He smiles at you smugly, âNo need Prefect. Any time you need a lantern blossom, I will fetch one for you.â You guiltily hold out the flower to one student after another, but no member of the Horseback Riding Club will take it from you. âPrefect,â Riddle finally says in a commanding voice, âIts rude to return a gift. We are more than capable of retrieving another lantern blossom.â Sebek and Silver nod in agreement, backing up the Dorm Leader. You think itâs time to go before you cause this club any more trouble. You make your excuses and dash off to the lake.
As you part a pair of branches and emerge from the forest at the lakeâs edge, you catch sight of some members of the Spelldrive Club nearby. Ruggie seems to be fishing up a storm while your first-year friend Epel watches from nearby with his own pole. âSee,â Ruggie tells his underclassman, âThatâs how its done. Now in return for that free lesson, how about you show me what you learned by catching enough fish for the rest of the club! Shishishi!â You roll your eyes at the obvious attempt to foist the work off onto Epel but are surprised with your friend shouts âYES SIR!â with enthusiasm. You catch Ruggieâs eye and give him a quiet tsk tsk which only earns you a mischievous wink before the hyena beastman setâs off toward camp.
You slowly saunter over to Epel, who is fully engaged in his fishing. âSo, got a plan?â you asked over his shoulder. âEh!?â he gasps and drops his pole, âPlayer! I..I mean Prefect! Itâs you! Yaâ had me surprised outta my skin there!â You give him an apologetic smile. Epel stoops down to retrieve his pole and shyly replies, âMy plan is just to catch the fish. Iâm not going to give up until Iâve caught at least a dozen!â Then he holds up his arm and bends it at the elbow, giving you a little flex to show off his determination. You hold in a laugh, âWell, if you are that fired up, why stop at only one dozen?âÂ
Epelâs eyes go wide for a moment and then he gets a maniacal grin. âYeah! Youâre right! Iâm going to catch you at least two dozen fish! Or maybe three or four!â You know Epel is not the type to break his word, so you quickly interrupt to calm down his ambitions, âOne dozen is enough! I was just joking.â You wave your hands toward the ground as though to say, letâs lower our expectations. Epel frowns and mutters under his breath, âThat isnât going to impress anyone.â Then he looks at you determined, âJust wait and see! Iâll catch plenty of fish so donât go eatân with any other club! When tha fish are in tha bag, Iâll make ya Gramâs special fish stew!âÂ
As Epel gets to work, casting his line and reeling in the lure, you sit beside him on a rock. When the time seems right, you snap a picture of him eagerly lifting a small fish from the lake on his line. âThere you go! One down!â you say as you transfer the ghost camera to your elbow and give him a small clap of encouragement. He preens a short second before frowning down at the small fish. âThaâ next âun will be twice as big!â he shouts in determination before casting his line again.Â
True to his prediction, soon Epel gets a tremendous tug on his pole. You both shout and leap to your feet at the strength of the fish that appears to be on the line. âWOAH!â Epel shouts. You lean over the edge of the lake, trying to see the monster fish Epel has snagged. Epel too seems interested in his opponent and plans one foot firmly while leaning forward to stare intently where his line entered the lake. With a sudden flash, a scaled hand emerges from the lake to grab the tip of Epelâs rod and tugs Epel, pole and all, into the lake. You quickly slide back as far more of Floyd emerges from the lake. He gives you a toothy smile before his trademark laugh emerges and he returns to the lake. Epel does not immediately surface, and you are concerned for a moment before you spot him further down the shore. Though he has concealed himself behind a log, you can tell his ears are flushed with embarrassment. You kindly decide to give him his space.
Halfway to camp, your stomach begins to growl. You thought sadly about Granâs special fish stew, now beyond your reach. You hoped that youâd manage to sweet talk some fish off someone. They were your friends, so someone is bound to share, right?Â
The size of Deuceâs eyes when you asked him sweetly if heâd share his food with you rivaled that of the empty plate you held out to him. âPlease?â you finish your plea for lunch. Deuce flushes and quickly removes his pack from his shoulder, pulling out a fairly large fish. âNo problem, Prefect, Iâve got enough for two here!â You make a little gesture to celebrate your victory and compliment him, âYeah! Great job catching such a big fish. It looks so huge, I bet its even enough for three people!â Immediately Deuce denies this, âNO! NO, ITâS NOT!â When you pull back in surprise, Deuce continues in a softer voice, âIâŠI mean this one is just perfect for two. ItâŠits just meant for us. To share. Together.âÂ
You hold up your hands and agree, âSure, sure. Just you and me. I get you.â Deuce seems so very pleased by your response that you decide to just let his strange response slide. Plus, you need him to cook that fish. âSoâŠwhat are you making? You know, just for us to share?â you ask as you saddle up to his side? Deuce looks back and forth between you and the fish, âI sure know how to cook this. Yup, I really do.â Your mouth falls into a little O and then you glare at him suspiciously, âDeuce, do you know how to cook fish?â He doesnât meet your eye but assures you that Trey taught him some recipes. You still have your suspicious but figure if it was a Trey recipe, it would be alright.
âSo, what do we do?â you ask Deuce. He looks at you with a dreamy expression, âWe? Youâre going to cook with me?â You shrug your shoulders, âI mean yeah, thatâs how Treyâs recipes are, right?â Then you lean in close and whisper, âLikeâŠLike in the game when we made that chestnut tart together. Right?â Deuce quickly agrees, âRight! Together! You and me! JustâŠyou and me⊠Ahem!â He finishes with a cough and then, to your relief, sends you to the forest to collect some herbs.Â
You had a handful of samples and a general area to search for more. Apparently, Jack had scented some out while setting up camp and taken cuttings so his clubmates could retrieve more later. You smiled at the foresight of the first-year student. You werenât sure exactly what Deuce needed, so you gathered a few handfuls of each type. You walk back to the camp and set your bounty on the table next to the fish Deuce has prepared. It looks like heâs used the time you were away to fillet the fish and make a simple dough. Seeing the dough gives you confidence that this really is a Trey recipe.Â
âSo, what now?â you ask him. âChop up the herbs and mix them into a paste with water,â Deuce directs. âSure,â you say while gesturing to the pile, âbut which ones?â Deuce pauses and looks at the large pile of greens you have sitting there. âOhâŠumâŠAll of them!â Now your doubts are back. âAre you sure about that?â you ask him carefully. âYeah!â Deuce replies confidently, âJust like Trey says, the more the merrier!â You carefully take two sprigs of herbs and chop them up and then, while Deuce is preoccupied with the dough, give them a taste. Honestly, the combination of the two isnât bad. âWell,â you think, âwhat to I know about cooking in a magical world anyway?â So, you chop the entire pile of greens and mix it all into a thick paste. Deuce combines your herb paste with the fish and puts it into a small pie shell he has formed with the dough. Then, you pack the âpieâ into the hot rocks of the fire to roast.Â
While the pie bakes, you sit side by side on a log and chat about normal things. Or maybe it was more like you chatted and Deuce listened. You didnât mind, he was good company even if he seemed preoccupied. You were telling him about Grimâs latest antics when you felt something on your hand. You give a small yelp and tug your hand into your lap. âAh!â you examine your hand as you brush it off, âWas that a bug?â Deuce, who you suddenly realize had gotten far closer to you than youâd noticed, nervously remarked, âOh yeah, thatâŠwas probably it. Ha ha.â Finally, you ask, âAre you cold? I bet we could find you a seat closer to the fire if you are. You can be as cozy as our pie.â Deuce seems embarrassed for a moment before suddenly becoming alarmed, âTHE PIE!â He jumps up and fishes the pie from the fire.Â
He brings it to you nervously, âI think it is fineâŠâ The pie has a small amount of char around the edge that was directly in the fire. If it hadnât been made by your good friend, youâd probably have refused it but, since it was made by Deuce, you donât have the heart to refuse. âOh yeah, looks fine. I guessâŠlets try it?â you say trying to convince both yourself and Deuce of the pieâs editability. Deuce lets out a happy sigh and breaks the pie in half, handing you the slice with fewer burnt edges. He makes no move to eat the pie himself but seems to hold his breath, waiting for you to try it. âWell, here it goes?â you say in a worried tone. You take a bite; itâs terrible. You force your mouth into a wide smile, âmmmâŠâ you mutter for him in pity. You decide to use the same method for the pie as you used the last time you were forced to eat Liliaâs cooking. You cram the pie down in three huge bites, trying to finish it off while tasting it as little as possible.Â
For a moment, Deuce seems greatly pleased with the gusto in which you eat before the look of alarm sets on his face and he tilts his head to the side. Or maybe he is tilting his whole body? Oh, no. Itâs you that is falling. Then the blackness takes you as Deuceâs frightened shouts fade out, âHELP, I thinkâŠIâve poisonedâŠthe playerâŠâ
You wake up groggy. If that was all, youâd have considered yourself lucky, but it also appears youâve been tied to a tree. You are confused for a moment until you recall the storyline of the Camp Vargus event. Right, Coach is probably out tormenting students right now while anyone captured is tied up. Great, just great. You look up when you hear a long howl echoing through the forest. âIs that Jack?â you think to yourself. If Jack is already in his wolf form, then this camp is nearly over. You sigh and lean back into the tree, waiting for someone to come along and release you.
It isnât longer than an hour before a very tired but eager Jack arrives to untie you. âGuess you are the hero of the day, huh?â you jibe at him. He flushes as he rubs the back of his head, âOh, you heard about that.â He tries to pretend indifference but moments later he is asking for more details, âSo what did you hear?â Well, this is a challenge to answer since you hadnât actually heard anything about it. You just remembered it from when it was a game plot. âWellâŠdidnât Floyd change into his mer form? That was probably cool to see.âÂ
A look of incredulousness passes over his face, âYeah well, other guys probably looked cool too.â You nod knowingly, âYeah, I heard you got to Sebek use his training to lure the monster into the bog. Who knew there would be a chance for him to show off his skills out here.â Jack huffs, âYeah but he wasnât the only one using his skills out there.â Now you smile, feeling a bit mischievous yourself, âOh, for sure. I mean what would we have done without our MVP from Savanahclaw.â Jack lets out a relieved sigh and smiles. âYes, Ruggie sure did pull though. I donât normally approve of his sneaky habits, but you have to admit he really came through today.âÂ
Jackâs eyes widen and he stands there in a silent shock. âWell, letâs get going. Are you hungry? I could sure go for something right about now.â Then you dust off your knees and start heading toward camp. After a moment, you decide youâve tortured him enough and pause, waiving your hand to signal him to join you. When he reaches your side, you give his uniform sleeve a tug. He bends down and you use this opportunity to give him a pat on the head and then rub his soft ears. âYou did good, Jack,â you praise him softly. Then you thread your arm through his own and tug him along to camp. âNow, letâs go get some grub. Just donât take anything Deuce gives you, ok?â Jack smiles and follows you along, tail wagging all the way.

OOC content, angst(?) and fluff(?) idk, you get your warnings.
You were the mage General Lilia cherished after working together for years. How ironic seeing the fae who had once tried to slaughter the village you protected to become the General you stalked beneath the shadow of faes.
In exchange for your great fortitude in facing the General head-on in protecting the village you resided.
It was a routine. To be hidden somewhere away from prying eyes and to tend all the wounded faes the moment they returned from yet another departure. To wrap the bandages around the opened flesh wounds, to chant magic to quicken the healing pace, to ensure that there were no faes threatened by death and to cradle the fearsome General by his face.
â⊠it seemed like you got yourself into quite the trouble. The previous wound had not even healed completely and itâs torn open again...â Feeling the bloodied flesh, you winced at the sensation of feeling it. âYou should have brought me along, that way I can minimize the damage inflicted-â
âNo.â He quickly silenced you with a scowl, âNot only are you going to render the humans surprised, but even the faes that are not familiar with you might end up assuming that you should be killed off.â
Unable to retort any further, you showed him one of your rare dejected face, rendering him surprised for you had always been a rather emotionless⊠human.
â⊠humans shouldnât be fighting alongside fae anyway.â Lilia nuzzled himself closer to you, his head shifted on your lap to find a more comfortable position for him to rest, âhow about you chant spell on the wound instead of sulking?â
General Lilia most cherished mage, the mage that was hidden beyond prying eyes along with the mageâs flock. The only time he allowed himself to fool himself that it was merely a beneficial relationship and nothing sentimental.
So why was he bawling in tears as he came back to you laying on the bed, edged to death? He had lost enough, he had lost Meleanor in a devastating battle and he had to lose yet another cherished subject?
On the bed was you, lying cold as usual while you were pristine free from wounds. Your attendant could only cry as the humans you had once protected wept along.
Upon meeting the burgundy red slit eyes, you raised your hands to cradle his face as usual, but what erupted from your throat was not an expected farewell.
It was a curse.
âFor what Meleanor had caused to me this day, I will return it to her descendant twicefold.â
You tried. You really tried to bring him along to your demise and he posed no struggle. Was it because he knew you couldnât have done anything or was it because he had long lost his sanity? Stripped from those whom he held dear, heâd be happier if he followed them along no?
General Liliaâs most cherished mage, the Apple to his heart passed away on the same day his Lord did.
He could feel the squeeze of your hands to his throat yet it was only momentarily, abruptly stopped by your whole body falling limp to the curse of a sweet death.
General Liliaâs most cherished mageâŠ
Enrolled into the Academy as a magicless student.
âLike I said!â Lilia halted his step, rendered surprised by the rather familiar voice and smell, âI am a mage, how could you assign me as a magic-less human? Aah~ should I give you a punch first-â
âWoah woah woah, hold your horse you brute!â Crowley immediately held you back by your arms before you could give the Dark Mirror a taste of your fist.
General Liliaâs most cherished mage⊠appeared right in front of Lilia's eyes. Nothing had changed from the way you looked aside from your behavior.
It took a moment before you noticed him in the room, busying yourself by chatting with the other housewardens.
âAh?!â you pointed at the old fae, causing him to raise his eyebrows and tilted his head.
General Liliaâs most cherished mageâŠ
An impostor?
He readied himself to strangle you once he proved himself right of you being an impostor. Heâd make sure to not be caught doing so and let your body rot on the academyâs front gate.
âLilia~! Long time no see!â you hopped onto him, arms snaked around his neck, his eyes widened in surprise. Perhaps this impostor tried to trick him? If so, heâd be happier to test the water before he cursed you to death.
âHeh, long time no see, whippersnapper.â
Lilia Vanrouge's most cherished doll.

"Oh dear, what an awkward situation."
Awkward indeed⊠đ
With this, Iâve completed the âRollo is tormented by visiting the dormsâ series of headcanons 𫶠Hope you enjoyed, Roro-chan đ (I still have some Rollo at the Writing Desk interactions to post after this, so technically his torment isnât over quite yetâŠ)
A Big Diasomnia Welcome to Rollo!
âAt last, I have completed my itinerary. There is nothing more for me to see here, nor do, at Night Raven College.â Thatâs what Rollo tells himself as his stay crawls to its final few days. He has done itâthrough sheer mental fortitude and hatred he has endured this cesspit and avoided being dragged into Draconia's domain!!
Rollo is returning to his temporary quarters for the night when he notices that the fireflies are out. Glowing orbs flit by him in a slow, showy dance. Strange, he thinks. Itâs well into autumn now. They shouldnât be out past summertime.
... But something is wrong. The fireflies are swarming, coalescing into a single humanoid form. There is a blinding flash, and the glowing orbs are flung outward again, ushering in a new presence. Tall, dark, handsome, and crowned by a distinctive set of devilish horns. Rollo takes a stumbling step backwards. "YOU!!"
Malleus Draconia, in the flesh. The fae prince gives a toothy smile, reaching out a hand to him. "Good evening, Flamme. What an honor it is to be reunited with you. It has been far too long.â
âNot nearly long enough if you ask me,â Rollo snaps. He turns away and briskly walks toward his housing, prepared to slam the door in Malleusâs faceâbut Malleus has poofed away and reappeared to block his path. âGoing so soon? But weâve yet to have the chance to properly catch up. I was going to extend an invitation to a most extravagant dinner party in Diasomnia."
"I have no interest in such a thing," Rollo declares, weaving around him. "Good-bye." This time, Malleus does not follow. He stands there, eyes intensely bearing into Rollo as he flings open the door to his abode and... "What in the world?!"
Beyond the frame is not the usual foyer, but instead a sinister new scene, morbid stone and diamond-stitched furniture faintly illuminated by eerie green candlelight. An ominous throne waits along the far end and up two mirrored slights of stairs. The Diasomnia lounge.
Rollo whips his head back, glaring at Malleus. "You're responsible for this wicked enchantment, aren't you? You're not giving me any say in this matter." To that, Malleus only darkly chuckles. "It is the duty of any good host to ensure that his guest is comfortable and feels... welcomed. Fufufu, I am playing my part well, wouldn't you agree?"
"Feh! To weaponize your magic for such a trivial, petty thing... I never thought the great and powerful Malleus Draconia would be so low as to stoop to kidnapping," Rollo glowers. "You continue to drop the bar of my expectations for you. I would be impressed if I didn't utterly loathe you and your entire existence. Know this, Draconia: I wonât fall for such an obvious scheme. I would sooner set myself ablaze than play into your hands."
Malleus doesnât seem to be bothered by the declaration so full of passion and hatred. He grins mysteriously and waves a hand. âSilver, Sebek. You may do as you will with our dear guest.â
A collective âYESSIR!!â sounds from behind Rolloâhe turns too late, for the two guards have emerged and reached out from the magical doorway to Diasomnia. Rollo (helplessly struggling like a fly caught in a spiderâs web) is seized by the two burly men and hauled through the gate, Malleus casually strolling in and closing the door after himself.
Rollo is (aggressively) seated on (well, more like chucked onto) one of Diasomniaâs couches. His body aches from the impact, his vision swimming from the shock. Sebek and Silver loom over him, preventing his escape.
âSorry about this,â Silver says apologetically. âMalleus-samaâs orders.â Sebek, on the other hand, is far less forgiving. âHmph!! Consider yourself fortunate that the young master is as merciful as he is! AND THANK HIM FOR THE INVITATION IN SPITE OF YOUR PREVIOUS TRANSGRESSIONS!!â
âNow, now! Letâs not scare the poor lad, boys,â a deep voice advises them. FWUMP!! A short boy with dark hair and magenta streaks descends from the ceilings, spooking away what is left of Rolloâs soul. âLilia Vanrouge, vice dorm leader of Diasomnia."
Lilia vigorously grabs and shakes Rolloâs hand. His grip is immenseâa contrast to his youthful appearanceâpractically crushing Rolloâs fingers. Rollo yanks his head back in alarm. "Teehee, did I do that?" Lilia asks innocently. "Silly me, I don't know my own strength!" (... Rollo doesn't believe him.)
"So excited to finally meet you! Iâve heard so many storiesâlike how youâre the first person to have struck fear into the heart of our Malleus.â Beaming like the sun on a cloudless day, Lilia leans into their guestâs ear and whispers, âThere had better not be any of the same stunts you tried to pull the night of the masquerade~ You try any of that funny business again and Lilia-chan will make sure you regret it <3â
Rollo is unnerved by the messageâitâs friendly and teasing, but a vaguely threatening tone lies beneath it. When he looks again at the young-looking boy, he sees the darkness radiating off of him, the ancient wisdom in his eyes. A shiver rolls through his spine.
"Kufufu. Juuuust kidding! Let's all be the best of friends, okay?" Lilia says with a cheeky wink. Rollo's not sure if his cheer or his seriousness is more disturbing.
Malleus is so glad that everyone has gotten acquainted! Itâs been so long since theyâve had the opportunity to host someone. He looks as jubilant as a kid in a candy store (whereas Rollo looks like a cat on the side of the road that someone splattered with a puddleâs worth of muddy water).
Before the meal, Malleus is eager to show Rollo the dormitory (âYou enjoy history, Flamme. Diasomnia has plenty of it to offer. Allow me to show youââ). Rollo is sandwiched between Malleus (who leads the way) and Sebek, Silver, and Lilia in the back and at his sides. (He glares at the back of Malleusâs head and quietly wills for him to meet a fiery and painful end.)
... Likewise, Sebek is glaring and thinking the same of Rollo. He's only keeping his trap shut in the presence of Lilia-sama and Malleus-sama!! (Silver sighs to himself, wondering if this evening will really play out alright.)
Malleus rattles off details the past and the antiques which decorate Diasomnia. (There is of course a segment about gargoyles too.) In any other scenario, Rollo would have found the information fascinating--but darn that Draconia for tainting this experience for him!! (With each fact Malleus provides, Rollo's face increasingly twisted with disgust.)
Every so often, Sebek interjects with loud praise for Malleus's wealth of knowledge. His fanboying is so incessant that it echoes in Rollo's head long after the compliments have already been uttered out loud. Where's the brain bleach when Rollo needs it the most?
He thinks heâs hallucinating things when he sees a stampede of animals heading for him from the other end of the hallwayâbut as they get bigger and louder, Rollo realizes that no, itâs very much real. The animals surround Silver, who greets them with a soft smile and introduced his friends to Rollo.
âDo you want to pet them, Rollo-senpai?â Silver offers. Rollo calmly replies, âNo thank you. I do not make it a habit of handling animals outside of the occasional horseââ Too bad for him though, squirrels and birds are already nesting in his hat and a deer is chewing on the ends of his robesâŠ! Rolloâs eyes twitch in annoyance as he goes about untangling himself from the deer and shooing away the birds and squirrels.
When they arrive at the dorm rooms, Lilia pipes up with an idea: "I know! I'd like to show our guest some things from my room. It'll be just like a sleepover." (Rollo frowns. "... In what way is this like a sleepover? If possible, I would like to avoid it." Sebek agrees, vehemently advising against showing "the enemy" their private quarters.)
Lilia shakes his head and wags at finger at him. "You should be more accepting, Sebek! Yesterday's foes can be today's friends." (Silver and Malleus agree with Lilia, so it's 3 votes to 2.)
"Welcome to Lilia-chan's ultra-cute heart-thumping bedroom <3" ... It's the most cluttered place Rollo has ever laid his eyes on, even worse than Idia's. He strains to hide the disgust on his face. Lilia for his part, is ecstatic. He rushes about the room, collecting armfuls of trinkets and artifacts to show off. Each comes with its own story from a different part of Twisted Wonderland.
Lilia even shows off a massive cleaver he claims he used âback in the day to cut my enemies down~â It launches Sebek into another round of extolling his superior. Meanwhile, Rollo stares blankly at the weapon and wonders how much of what Lilia just said was fact and how much of it was fiction.
"You know, Rollo-kun, there's so much we can learn from other people and cultures," Lilia tells him, holding up a handkerchief of his own. Rollo recognizes it as one from the City of Flowers--the joke items children blow into to release smoke and confetti, startling others. (Hmm? Did Silver purchased an extra one for his vice dorm leader? Hadnât he just gotten one for his father?) "I hope that you can keep an open mind tonight."
â⊠Yes, I will try.â (Itâs a lie.)
Using his own handkerchief as a makeshift mask, Rollo does his best to not inhale too much of the air of this magic-infested place. Lilia asks him if he's feeling ill (Rollo is tempted to respond, "Yes, I am sick... sick of you lot of fools!"), to which Rollo replies that he's feeling peckish.
âShall we head into the dining room?â Malelus suggests, but Lilia tells him, Sebek, and Silver to go ahead of him and Rollo. (âYou boys run along and make the necessary preparations! Weâll catch up later.â)
When itâs just the two of them, Rollo finds Lilia staring wistfully into a tin. Some withered old acorn bracelet is inside. Itâs nothing special, but Lilia looks at it as though itâs the greatest treasure in the entire world. He replaces the lid and regards Rollo and a serious expression.
â⊠I empathize with you, you know. Losing a loved one is never easy. I donât wish for anyoneânot even my worst enemyâto experience the pain that I did. It hurts, I knowâbut there is an opportunity to heal, to learn, to grow. Thatâs why I will do everything in my power to protect that dream, to bring about a world of peace and love, not war and hate. It is my hope that you, too, recognize this. The last thing I would want to do is to obliterate Malleus, Sebek, and Silverâs first friend from Noble Bell College.â
Rollo frowns, disconcerted by the promise of peace and love. No, itâs just not possible in a world where magic exists. âWe will have to agree to disagree. I have my convictions as well. I do not intend to waver. And a correction: we are NOT friends.â
Lilia giggles. âWhat are friends, if not people who spend time together and get on each othersâ nerves? You are plenty friends with them, if only you would allow yourself to be.â He prances over to Rollo and taps him in the heart. âRiiight here.â
âWhaâŠ?! G-Get away from me!!â Rollo bats at the ancient fae, who only laughs and runs off with Rollo in hot pursuit. He chases Lilia all the way down the hall, where theyâre both stopped by the sight of the dining room.
Itâs lovelyâan obsidian black tablecloth thrown on a long table, their best china and silverware out, crystal vases of fresh cut roses and candelabras alit with pulsating green flames welcoming them. Platters of succulent food and drink float in the air, suspended by magic.
âDinner is served,â Malleus announces. With the way of his hand, the dishes slowly settle onto the table. The dorm leader beckons everyone to sit. Silver and Sebek nod and obey. Lilia claps his hands in delight. Rollo wants to vomit in his mouth.
The seating arrangement is deliberate. Malleus at the end of the table, Lilia on one side of him and Rollo on the other. Silver sits next to Lilia, and Sebek next to⊠Rollo⊠âWhy does HE get the honor of the seat across from Lilia-sama and next to the young master?! THAT SHOULD BE ME!!!â Sebek thunders. (The entire meal, Rollo feels the first year angrily staring at him.)
Rollo forces himself to eat the food that has likely been prepared by magical means. He figures that if his mouth is preoccupied with eating, then he wonât have to engage in whatever stupid conversations Diasomnia brings up.
Sebek talks about a book he has been reading. He visibly puffs up as he recites the details of it, like heâs an eager puppy expecting praise for his memory. Silver mentions that some of his bird friends will migrate south soon, and that he will miss them until their inevitable return in the spring. Lilia tells a story about a raid he went on with his gaming buddy (Gloomy Samurai) and how he dove off the stage during one of his club meetings. (One of these things is not like the other, Rollo thinks.)
At one point in the meal, Silver almost falls asleep in his soup and a flock of birds have to work together to lift his head up and avoid disaster. Rollo cringes at the wild animals being so close to their foodâwho knows what manner of diseases they carry or where theyâve been?! Thankfully, he manages to keep his mouth shut, as heâs sitting far enough away for his own food to be safe.
Though Rollo keeps avoiding speaking to Malleus, Malleus certainly doesnât do the same. In fact, he seems to delight in provoking Rollo. Malleus will talk excitedly about gargoyles and then make an aside to ask Rollo, âhow do the gargoyles of Noble Bell College fare?â The same trend occurs for other topics as well. It makes Rollo nearly choke on his food or spit up a drink more than once.
He tries to keep his replies short and to the point, but Malleus often presses for elaboration or continues the conversation from Rolloâs response. (Sebek looks on enviously, chewing on his napkin to stave off the anger.)
Lilia declares that he has a surprise for everyone!! He runs off and returns with a dish covered by a silver dome. Silver pales, Malleus is taken aback, and Sebek is suddenly grinning deviously. âTa-daaaah! I made dessert in advance!! I thought to myself, âI canât let our dear guest walk out without trying some of my world-famous cooking!ââ
Lilia whisks the lid off, revealing⊠a bubbling blob in shades of brown, violet, and murky green. Chicken bones, bits of chopped fruit, and shredded greens peek out from its mushy surface, which appears to have the consistency of a liquid and a solid at the same time. It smells like skunk juice and death. Rollo uses his handkerchief to hold his nose and to keep from being ill.
âRollo-senpai, I donât think you shouldâŠâ (âCome now, human!â Sebek says smugly, interrupting his fellow knight. âLilia-sama went to the trouble to prepare this treat for you! Do not waste his valiant efforts!!â)
âYou think I would sample a dish so obviously dubious?!â Rollo cries, offended at the idea. âHow foolish do you think I am?!â (âOh my, no need to fight over my cooking, boys!â Lilia chirps. âThereâs plenty to go around!â But no, Sebek loudly insists that their esteemed guest eat it all upâafter all, when will Rollo have the chance to be graced with Liliaâs cooking again?)
As theyâre arguing, no one noticed Malleus scooping a spoonful for himself until he has the bite hovering close to his lips. Sebek, horrified, begs his liege to think better of it. Silver, too, warns him. (Lilia cheers him on. âYou have such a healthy appetite!â)
âPlease, young master!! You know what the consequences areâŠ!!â Sebek pleads with him. Malleus insists he must do this. âIt is a show of good faithâand furthermore, a leader is expected to make sacrifices for the good of his people.â (Rollo feels like heâs watching a historical soap opera.)
Malleus brings the spoon to his mouth (Sebek leaps across the table, fully intent on eating that bite just to protect his prince from it) and⊠collapses onto the floor in a heap. His knights immediately rush over, calling out his name and trying to rouse him. Lilia claps both hands over his mouth.
Rollo rises from his seat too, but not for the reason anyone expects. His expression slowly shifts from neutral to a frenzied excitement. âHm⊠hm hm hmm⊠ha ha hah⊠HAAAH HAH HAH HAH HAAAAAH!! At last⊠At long last, Malleus Draconiaâs revolting presence has been wiped clean from this world! Slain by the hands of your own retainerâŠ! Betrayed by your trusted ally, done in by your own hubris!! Oh, how ironically delicious!! There could be no better way to conclude what has been an otherwise odious evening!!â
Silver gaped at him in horror. Sebek is consumed by anger and upset. âWHY, YOU NO GOODâ!!â The first year charges, tackling Rollo to the ground. Silver follows, trying to pry the two apart. Thereâs shouting and laughing, fists flying and fumbling for a magical pen to exact righteous judgmentâ
Lilia calmly walks over to the body and crouches down. He pokes his fallen dorm leaderâs cheek. â⊠Malleus, donât you think youâve scared them for long enough? Iâm all for theatrics, but itâs a rather cruel prank to pull on our guest~â He pouts. âBesides, itâs not like my cooking is bad! Youâre being overdramatic.â
âHUH?!â The three boy look on (Sebek and Silver in relief, Rollo in horror) as Malleus smoothly rises like a corpse from the grave. He chuckles darkly at their shocked expressions all the same, drinking in their surprise like a monster might relish in fear. Malleus dusts himself off and gives a luminous smile. âForgive me, I could not help myself.â
A teary Sebek flings himself at Malleus to happily sob at his revival. Silver shakes his head, but heâs smiling too.
Rollo comes down from his high, and embarrassment sets in to replace it. He sits back in his seat to keep from collapsing himself, taking steady and deep breaths through his handkerchief.
They clear up Liliaâs dessert (no oneâs in the mood to try any more of it since the prank) and move into the lounge to unwind after dinner. (Rollo tries to leave early, but Malleus isnât having it.)
Sebek happily volunteers to prepare coffee for everyone! He parades in with a tray of it, passing them to Malleus, Lilia, and Silverâin that order. â⊠Iâll take mine with a little milk,â Rollo requests, as heâs usually used to a cafe au lait to go with his lunch every day.
Sebek needles him a bit for the request, going on and on about how he canât believe an adult would still take their coffee with additives and how truly immature Rollo must be if he canât stomach coffee black. Heâs (unintentionally) undercut when Solver bluntly points out that Sebek usually takes his with tons of milk, creamer, and sugar to balance out the bitter edge. This causes Sebek to flush red and stammer out a weak defense, and Rollo smirks. Itâs the little victories like this that curb his temper.
Malleus puts on a violin performance for them all. He plays a stringed rendition of the Kindly Bellringerâs song, a wish for a hope-filled future. (Rollo hates to admit it, but Malleus has impressive technical skill as a violinist.)
Sebek is nearly moved to tears just listening. Silver has to stop Lilia from rushing to join in with his electric guitar, offering to dance with his vice dorm leader instead. Their height difference makes for a silly sight as they swing together, but they have a lot of fun doing it.
⊠Rollo doesnât understand it. How can this group of misfits be so happy like this? Looking at them, they almost come off like some happy-go-lucky family. Even though they donât share blood. Even though theyâre so differentâŠ
It is late. Again, Rollo tries to excuse himself. His mind is fried and worn out from all the excitement and the stress of forced friendship with Diasomnia. Unfortunately for him, Malleus has one more trick up his sleeve. The prince promises, however, that it is the last one. â⊠Why should I trust you?â Rollo asks, to which he gets no answer. Malleus and Lilia only exchange a knowing look.
The group is led out into the garden. Unlike that of Heartslabyul or even Pomefiore, Diasomniaâs is not lush. Thick plants grow over everything, bearing bramble sharp enough to draw blood and driving onlookers away.
One powerful wave of ice magic is all it takes to convert it into a winter wonderland. Light snowfall drifts down upon an icy road, the thorns turned into abstract works of art encased in glass. Rollo begins to berate Malleus for his lax use of magic for his own pleasure, but Malleus just laughs and tugs Rollo along insisting that they build a snowman together.
Sebek calls after them, asking Malleus to please wait for him too! Itâs Lilia who tells Sebek to stay behind and to give those two some space to settle their differences. âB-But Lilia-sama! What if that dastardly man attempts to take the young masterâs life again?!â Sebek protests. (âIâm sure our Malleus can handle it!â)
Lilia whips out his cleaver (where was he hiding that on his body this entire time?!) and carves down blocks of ice into shaved ice for everyone! This, he claims, is his dessert redemption arc now that everyone is in good spirits once again.
Sebek helps with fetching bowls, spoons, and an array of flavored syrups for everyone to customize their shaved ice. Silver and his animal friends contribute toppings for them: fresh fruits and nuts!
⊠Rollo begrudgingly joins Malleus in the snow but males his own snowman instead of collaborating just to spite him. Malleusâs Olaf snowman comes out short and lumpy with a tall head and a carrot nose. Rolloâs is tall and thin, lying on the ground with Xs for eyes and two sticks shoved into its head. âItâs you,â he tells Malleus, pointing to the stick âhornsâ. (âOh? Iâm flattered.â) âYouâve perished,â Rollo clarifies. To his dismay, his rival barely bats an eye.
Malleus starts to blast alternating water and ice, creating dynamic sculpturesâplatforms to hop on, odd shapes to climb and to slide down. He easily navigates them (with an angry Rollo struggling to keep up, shouting at him about how he needs to keep âa leashâ on his frivolous use of spells).
Malleus lands on the ground again, practically skating on just his feet alone. With a glance at the big moon above, he laughs. It reminds him of the night of the masqueradeâand so he turns to Rollo, extending his hand a second time and asking to share a dance.
âHave you lost your MIND, Draconia?!â Rollo huffs. Malleus assures him that he hasnât, then pulls him onto the ice anyway. Theyâre set effortlessly gliding, their robes swaying in the wintery wind. Rolloâs not even bothered by the cold nowâheâs operating on the hot fury thatâs burning within him.
âAre you happy with this evening of tormenting me and having me dance in the palm of your hand? Well? Are you?!â Rollo hisses. Malleus grins, and he looks particularly wicked under a veil of moonlight. âVery. Itâs good to know that you are still as amusing as you ever were, Flamme. How goes your repentance, hmm?â
âI donât have to answer to the likes of you. You and your minions have already out me through quite a bit of distress tonight.â (Malleus doesnât seem to be bothered by the response. âFufufu. Looking away so stubbornly has its own charm as well.â)
âI wonât press you further. There will be plenty of time in the future for us to catch up.â Rollo begins to object, but Malleus isnât listening. He raises one hand to the sky, his volume booming. âAllow me to offer you a parting gift to end this evening⊠a token of our everlasting friendship between man and monster.â
Who is man and who was monster? a small, doubtful voice in the back of Rolloâs head wonders. He rushes to squash it before those embers turn into an all-consuming wildfire.
A brilliant aurora shoots out and overtakes the night. So many colors crackling and melding into one another, its ribbon-like motions seemingly never ending. From all around Diasomnia, mob students look out of their windows and stare at the sky in pure wonderment. Itâs like a dream has come to life before their very eyes, and everyone is dancing under it. Even Rollo is stunned into silence by the beauty of the aurora.
No, he tells himself. This is wrong. Itâs a product of magic. Itâs not meant to be like this. Magic is ugly and harmful and selfish andâŠ!!
A shooting star streaks the dark, diamond/studded sky. âMake a wish, Flamme,â Malleus encourages.
Rollo looks at him, then takes the deepest breath he possibly can. His shout resonates throughout Diasomnia, rattling antiques and rousing sleepy Silver awake.
âI SWEAR IF ITâS THE LAST THING I DO, I WILL BE THE ONE TO TEAR YOU DOWN ONCE AND FOR ALL, MALLEUS DRACONIAAAAAAAA!!â

Leon thinks Luck and Fate have it out for him. Otherwise he wouldn't have had to spend the last twenty years hiding from the Templesbane for fear of dooming everyone he loves. That's not even getting into how he ended up trapping himself in Mezeldwelf, a city where it's illegal for him to be, because of an encounter with a bandit that went wrong.
Edward believes luck has a large role in people's lives, but also that people can make their own luck. Fate he's a bit more iffy on because it's depressing to think the universe planned his impoverished childhood and his severe lack of innate magic.
Owen wants to personally punch fate in the eye for putting his kids in harm's way, but since it's hard to punch a concept, he'll settle for making his own luck.
As for me, I find the only part of writing where luck applies is finding people to help improve, whether that's beta readers or editors. Almost any idea can be fantastic if you're willing to put in the work, but finding someone who can see your vision and wants to help you improve is worth more than any pot of gold at the end of a rainbow.
Writers' Chat: Feeling lucky?
How do your characters feel about luck? Do they believe in it? Are any of them lucky? How does "luck" apply to your writing in general, whether "lucking" into an idea or something else?
The questions above are meant to get you thinking; answer them, skip them, whatever you'd like!

For the fic writer asks: 12, 36, 41
12. Are there any tropes you used to dislike but have grown on you?
Hmmm, Iâm not sure there are many tropes I dislike, if Iâm honest. I suppose two that Iâve never utilized and probably wonât ever is love triangle and lovers to enemies.
36. Do you visualize what you read/write?
Yes! I will draw out a fight scene like a football play. Sometimes, I will act out a scene to ensure what Iâm writing is plausible. Thereâs a lot of play-by-play that goes on in my mind for scenes that need to be âchoreographedâ. And then all the other scenes play in my head like a movie - those poor characters have to stand around a lot in my head while I figure out what comes next đ€Ł
41. Link a fic that made you think, âWow, I want to write like that.â
Hmm, there is one author who comes to mind at the moment. They are going to begin to think Iâm a stalker because I mention them so much đ
I am really amazed by @sparklyhyperbole work. The way they weave words together to paint a vivid picture always blows me away. I highly recommend any of their stories. They write some really delicious original zelinks. One of their stories was spotlighted Tuesday on the Expanding Hyrule blog - https://www.tumblr.com/expanding-hyrule/778456209938333696
