"IMPROVEMENTS TO LOCO. WORKS," Kingston Daily Standard. September 9, 1912. Page 1. ---- Erection of Foundry to Begin This Week. ---- Force of Workmen Will Arrive From Toronto on Wednesday - Job to be Rushed. ---- Mr. Carr-Harris, of the firm of Jago & Harris, contractors of Toronto, arrived in the city to-day and was in conference this morning with the management of the Locomotive works in respect to the additional improvements and extensions to the works here. As a consequence an announcement is made that on Wednesday Mr. Harris will come down from Toronto with a force of men and will at once begin rushing to completion the big new foundry of the Locomotive Company, which must be completed by the first of the year. The building will be 175x150 and when it is completed it will be one of the finest buildings of its kind on the continent and will enlarge the capacity of the plant in this direction to fully double its present capacity. Through a misprint in Saturday's Standard it was made to appear that Toronto contractors were coming down to begin work on the cottages for the mechanics and workmen of the Locomotive Company. What it was intended to say was that the contractors were to begin work on the new foundry. The contract for the cottages has not yet been let.

9 Epic Benefits of Structural Steel Fabrication for Right Construction
Structural steelworks have been widely used to create design and construction projects to provide them the required strength to hold the structure. These fabrication steelworks are made and assembled in a mechanical factory in different stages and processes to comply with the project timeline and provide high quality structures in the construction industry.
Bahrain’s steel industry contributes to 4% of the GDP and it is on the rise due to rapid urbanization in the post covid times. Many steel fabrications and manufacturers have resumed their fabrication of vessels and tanks, structural steelworks like furnaces, silos, canopies, sheds, gates and doors. It is important to understand why steel plays a major role in the reinforcement of building structures in the construction industry.
High tensile strength: Structural steel has a high tensile strength of 400 megapascals (MPa). This makes it ideal for high rise apartment buildings and reinforcement making them earthquake resistant. If you would want to reinforce your construction building structure, there are several companies that specialize in customized steel structure manufacturing. One such fabrication and manufacturing company is Kooheji Contractors. Get started with your design of structural steelwork today with Kooheji Contractors.
Durable: Steel does not react to the moisture in the environment. This means it fails to expand or contract due to the moisture presence in the atmosphere. This makes it the best option for long term and durable structures. To increase the durability of steel, it is often plated with chromium to minimize the wear and tear.
Corrosion resistant: Due to the formation of a thin and invisible layer of oxides on the surface of steel, it has a corrosion resistance property. This makes chromium plated steel ideal to be used in different environment conditions and some acidic chemicals. Unlike wooden structures, steel is resistant to mold, rotting, warping, cracking and pests.
Easy to carry in prefabricated form: If you need a large scale steel structural design for a particular project, it is possible to prefabricate the parts of it and then assemble them together at the site. This helps increase the quality, accuracy of the dimensions and reduces the time and effort at the site to fix small parts together. Thus, it speeds up the project completion by manyfolds. Pre engineered construction not just helps trim down the costs of the project in the beginning but it reduces the overall costs of the building structure in the long run as it saves a lot of building maintenance costs.
Relatively cost effective: Pre-manufactured steel assembled at the site brings down the cost of the project significantly as the speed at which the project is completed is phenomenal. The wastage is minimum to zero with pre fabricated steelwork.
Fire resistant coating: To increase thermal resistivity, structural steels are often created as an alloy of Cr-Mo-V-Nb to make them fire-resistant up to 700° C. This helps steel retain its strength as well as gain an additional fire resistance to minimize any possible fire hazards in the premises.
Recyclable: All metals are recyclable. Even steel structures no longer in service fetch a high resale value in the long run and thus earning you a decent value even when the structure is tweaked, changed or demolished.
Flexibility to create modern design: Concrete structures are relatively heavier for the same amount of strength as their steel counterparts. Steel is 60% lighter than concrete. This makes steel an ideal choice for designers when it comes to innovative yet practical designs.
Save time and cost: In the long run, the construction costs with structural steel are low although the initial cost is higher than concrete and time of completion of the project is significantly lesser for steel structures. Because the foundations for concrete need digging and steel structures can also be erected without digging, the time needed to construct using steel is very less. Moreover, there is no turn around time for steel construction as the building can be used immediately after construction. The time for letting concrete to cure will take even more time. Thus, concrete construction is not preferred when the time frame for construction is less.
Conclusion: Structural steel fabrication has many benefits including high tensile strength, durability, corrosion resistance, easy to prefabricate and carry, relatively cost effective, fire resistance, recyclable, flexibility for modern designs, time and cost savings. Thinking about…Blue-Collar!141 AU
Blue-Collar!Soap works on the family farm in the Scottish Highlands. He starts his day releasing the sheep out to pasture, accompanied by his Shetland Sheepdogs. One dog looks after the sheep, and the other watches over the Highland Cattle. The MacTavish farm has been in the family for generations, and he wants to share it with someone special. He’d like to raise children here, eventually leaving the farm to them.
Blue-Collar!Gaz travels all over the world. He’s an aircraft mechanic, but not for a big airliner. He oversees personal planes of the wealthy. He makes sure their planes are in top shape and ready for whenever they need to hop on and fly somewhere. Sometimes he stays in one place. Sometimes he’s traveling all over. The job pays well and it’s hard work, but it’s been difficult to settle and start a family.
Blue-Collar!Ghost is a metalworker, but he doesn’t work in some large factory. Ghost has a small shop on the outskirts of Manchester, creating custom knives. He crafts everything from chef knives and culinary tools to hunting blades. He takes pride in his work, and he’s received multiple awards and accolades. Ghost is accomplished, but nothing brings him more joy than working side-by-side with his daughter—his apprentice.
Blue-Collar!Price is a general contractor, and he’s damn good at his job. He prides himself on hiring local and building with local materials. Price mostly builds homes from the ground up, but he’s taken on all sorts of jobs. He works late and often isn’t always home on the weekends, but his work pays well, and he provides plenty for his family.

I hate to be pedantic but...
Wouldya take a look at the care the architect /contractor took in designing this factory? Each floor level is designated by a brick string course.
Nice, right? But, they went a step further.
The string course above the first floor features single header bricks at regular intervals.
For above the second floor, we see two header bricks.
And above the the third floor, an uninterrupted string course of three spacer bricks runs the width of the building.
Modillions ( not shown) are below the cornice.
God is in the details.

Take a look at the building used by the shooter.
It is owned by AGR, or American Glass Research. They specialize in the manufacturing of various glass products.
They were bought out by Indicor in March.
Indicor’s CEO is Doug Wright, whom used to work for Raytheon and Ingersoll Rand. (Raytheon is a former defense contractor with much shadiness attached). He also used to work for Honeywell. Honeywell & Raytheon both refused to donate to anyone voting against certifying Biden on J6.
Is it a coincidence that Soro’s Tweet featured a pic of broken glass, and the would be assassin fired from the top of a damn glass factory?
There are no coincidences.

On this day:
MOTHMAN
On November 15, 1966, in West Virginia, two couples were driving by an abandoned explosives factory when a seven-foot-tall, gray-skinned creature with folded wings began moving on humanlike legs toward them. Menacing red eyes stared out from a neckless head. Driver Roger Scarberry tromped on the gas and sped away. Undaunted, the demon flew beside the couple's car, gliding on ten-foot, batlike wings, at 99 mph (160 kph). Its high-pitched sounds sent shivers down the couples' spines. Investigating later, the police found only electrical interference on their radios. Media christened the character Mothman, after the popular comic-book character Batman. A second sighting was reported in the town that same night, and a third, from 62 miles (100 kilometers) away, in the country.
Building contractor Newell Partridge watched his television screen become covered with a herringbone pattern as a high-pitched revving noise erupted from the speakers. His dog, Bandit, began to go berserk. Partridge went outside. Pointing his flashlight in the direction of the barn, the man and the dog saw a large, looming figure with smoldering red eyes. Bandit bolted toward the beast while Partridge went for his gun. By the time the builder could bring himself to step outdoors again, all that remained of his pet were pawprints. "There were no other tracks," he said.
In November 1967, three people with a baby were returning to their car when the Mothman, wings wide, rose before them. Everyone hustled back to the house. The Mothman followed them as far as the porch and peered through the windows as they huddled together inside. The first people who saw the phenomenon in 1961 remained silent because the story was unbelievable.
The Mothman was featherless, and its wings never flapped; his face was never described, and he took off vertically "like a helicopter." Between 1966 and 1967, more than 100 people encountered the creature; many of them sought medical attention afterwards.

Somebody other than me cares!
For only the second time in the last decade or more, my personal obsession is in the news and I'm incredibly excited. "Below the fold," in old newspaper jargon, but at least somebody's trying to do something and some newspapers noticed. When you're as starved for validation as I am, it only takes that much attention to excite me.
Amudalat Ajasa and Carolyn Van Houten, "Lead paint upended this boy’s life. Now the EPA is trying to eliminate the threat. The Environmental Protection Agency is about to issue strict limits on lead dust, which poses a threat to millions of children across the United States," Washington Post. Oct 19, 2024 (non-paywall link)
Lead was used as a paint additive from Victorian times up until the late 1970s for a couple of reasons. It made a bright white pigment that didn't fade quickly, it was shiny, and most importantly to the Victorians, it tolerated harsh cleaning chemicals well, which they thought was important to reducing the spread of disease.
(On a local note for here in St. Louis MO USA, it also almost single-handedly propped up the local economy in this town for that whole century, thanks to the huge lead mines south of town and our ability to export products to the whole world via our port on the Mississippi river. Almost all of the abandoned factory and warehouse buildings down here in South St. Louis are contaminated former lead-paint businesses.)
Lead paint though has an even bigger problem than lead pipes, though: over time, it starts shedding lead dust, and children are incredibly vulnerable to lead dust, breathing it in and/or swallowing it. And it takes very little lead dust to permanently damage a growing mind, destroying the parts of the brain that control impulses and the ones that down-regulate emotions.
This is why lead paint was outlawed in the late 1970s. But there was no law requiring it to be removed from (frankly, nearly all) surfaces. Instead, there was a voluntary lead abatement program, and even it only applied to residential property. Homeowners and apartment owners could borrow money from the nearest S&L, pay contractors to rip out and replace all the lead-dust tainted windows, carpets, plaster walls, and so forth and replace them with clean new vinyl-clad or latex-painted bits. They could then submit the receipts with their taxes and get a 100% refundable tax credit.
But they weren't able to make it mandatory because of intense lobbying by openly-racist slumlords, who didn't want to lead abate their properties even it was free because that's telling them what to do with their property, who didn't think their black tenants "deserved" refurbished apartments. That's also why it's illegal to disclose, in sales or in rental contracts, that your property has been through lead abatement; doing so is "unfair" to those '70s slumlords.
And besides, Reagan canceled the whole program halfway though his first term. To bend over backwards to be fair to Reagan, they weren't still getting many applications; everybody who was going to do so voluntarily already had. (Free money for home improvements has that effect.)
About a decade ago, a Reuters reporter used FOIA to demand state health departments turn over their records on childhood lead testing. Almost half of them don't keep any. Most only track it at the state level or maybe county level. Missouri's one of the only states that tracks it to the census-tract level, tracks where kids who are lead poisoned live to within a couple of blocks. And the map of apartments that didn't go through lead abatement, here in Missouri, perfectly maps onto the homicide data.
As someone who was pretty badly lead poisoned as a teenager myself, and as someone who's spent most of his life living in or near lead-poisoned apartments, I'm obsessed with this and ever since the Reuters article came out I've been begging every politician or candidate I interact with to bring back the late '70s lead abatement tax credit and this time make it mandatory to test before selling or leasing a home. Even when St. Louis, with its nominally, mostly progressive mayor got huge uncommitted funds dumped on her, from ARPA and from the Rams-relocation-fraud settlement, I couldn't get any politician to care about this. Their constituents weren't demanding it, so it couldn't be done.
The Washington Post reported, today, that the US Environmental Protection Agency has proposed a rule to do just that. No tax credit provision, so they're being fought tooth and nail by people who don't want to make property sellers and landlords pay for it out of pocket, but the proposed rule is on the docket, potentially to take effect mid next year. Somebody other than me noticed. Somebody other than me cares.
If you are like the average person (to my distress) the main thing you want to know is "what can I do to protect myself or my kids?"
This is a shitty way to think because let me tell you, if your kid grows up on the same block as a lead-poisoned kid, your kid is going to grow up with C-PTSD from the resulting violence. Your kids aren't safe until everybody's kids are safe.
I didn't convince you? You've given up on keeping everybody else's kids safe, too?
If you have a painted surface anywhere on your property that existed prior to 1976, you should assume that there is lead paint on it. Older chain-link fences almost certainly. Wooden single-pane windows, 100% likely. If you have plaster, instead of drywall, interior walls in your house, then neither the walls nor the floorboards nor the carpets are safe. They will tell you these surfaces can be rendered safe by painting over them with latex paint; anybody who tells you this is whistling past the graveyard.
Do not have or raise kids in a house or apartment like that. Either abate the lead or move. Yes, even if it's more expensive; the alternative is to raise a child who may never work and has a high likelihood of spending most of their life in and out of jail.
If it's too late for that, and your child is already lead poisoned, don't give up hope entirely, but understand that the interventions that show promise for such kids are hard to find and aren't 100% reliable.
The most important thing you can do is investigate the concept of "trauma-informed schools," and demand, as part of your child's IEP, that his teacher and any associated staff get trauma-informed schooling trained. (Your kid will not be the only one who benefits.)
Children with profoundly impaired impulse control and/or profoundly impaired emotional down-regulation skills can be taught to do better, but that requires that they be given the extra time it will take them to do so, and the privacy, and the calm quiet space, especially when they're very young and just learning. Their brains don't do this naturally, so they don't do them quickly; hold them to the same standard of behavior as everybody else but until they spend a decade or more practicing and grow up more, after you remind them, give them enough time to obey.
But believe me when I tell you this: lead abatement and behavioral education are cheaper and better than prison.

I loveloveLOVE the idea of a FarmSim! AU! Like yourself, I assume a lot of us weren’t raised as farmer’s children, and more or less grew up on Story of Seasons/Harvest Moon. (Altho I do know a bit about living in Indiana, land of the Corn and home of the Indy500, if that counts towards anything lmao). In any case, I hope you like mytake on the Sides!
In terms of Farm Sim tropes, I’d be willing to say that The Royals (Dia, Barb, and ‘Phisto) are a part of some sort of local govt. bc I cannot see them as knees-in-the-mud farmer types lol. Maybe the farm is the “ROYAL FARM OF DIAVOLO or something to try and convince Dia’s (not-in-a-self-induced-slumber) Mega-Corp father that farms are important, and corpo factories are bad. Diavolo has no idea how farming works but he likes to watch and play with the baby animals. Barb does not appreciate the farm visits bc Dia gets super excited and cannot be told “NO” if he wants to walk across a muddy field and up to a bull like “You are a fine specimen! A complete winner!” Luckily he is blessed with “Animals Love Me” kind of luck. Barb makes sure to get the Young Master dressed appropriately for next time. You need to talk to Barbatos about ordering tools, supplies, and contractors to build/repair things like stables, wells, and greenhouses. Mephistopheles takes care of the buying and selling of animals, and you gotta “prove to him” that you can be responsible enough to handle a horse (he does inspections of the farm and makes EVERYONE take riding/horse care tests).
The angels run the local cafe/store where you can get food and seeds, among other things. They buy your products and sometimes make presents (like sweaters made from your sheep's wool). Simeon and Luke run the Cafe side of things, while Raphael runs the store. Since Luke is a bit young to be running a business, he’s more like an assistant baker and he runs the morning collection at your farm. When he has time, he’ll sing to some of the animals.
Thirteen would probably the the Farm Sim Mine Spelunking Monster Trapper or smth like that? She’ll toss some coin your way if you bring her monster parts or rare ore, and maybe she’ll give you some “recipes” to make mining tools/weapons/traps.
And like... How funny would it be if Solomon just... didn’t change? Like at all? He already fits the “supernatural element” of other farming sims. An interesting and mysterious figure that lives just on the edge of the village. If you come to him with the monster parts/ore instead of Thirteen, he could help artifice some of your farming equipment with special traits, or craft potions that help you talk to animals or w/e.
IDK what do you think?
PLEASE I AM LOVING IT.
Okay okay so I totally agree about Diavolo, everything about that is spot on. He's fascinated by farm life, but knows nothing about it just like he is with humans in the game. Totally gets himself dirty because he just wants to experience things! Come on, Barbatos it'll be fun!!
And the corporation dad, that is perfection, too. Of course Dia's trying to convince his dad that farms are good!
Barb is forever suffering lol. While he does have a garden, I can't see Barbatos doing any kind of hard farm work either. He's definitely more suited to getting permits and such, but I could see him frequenting the angels' bakery because he likes to cook. They swap recipes a lot. Maybe he hosts the cooking competition, mostly because I think that'd be so funny.
Mephisto as the animal guy is perfect, you better believe he's gonna make sure your horse area is up to par before he'll even consider letting you have one.
Love the angels running a cafe and store, that's something I could easily see them doing. And oh my heart Luke singing to the animals!! My precious baby son. I kinda see him also being partial to flowers in general, since that's the only thing he's grown in the actual game lol. Maybe he starts making bouquets or perfumes...
Oh man Thirteen as the miner/monster hunter type! She's got a forge and spends untold amounts of time wandering the woods.
Solomon is such a menace and honestly I can't see him doing anything other than being the supernatural being. I keep thinking of Witchie from Story of Seasons/Harvest Moon. Like it'd be funny if he was more like Dessie and lived in a pond, but let's be real, he's definitely the one making weird potions and magic tools and such.
And of course all the characters are also marriage candidates, so if you marry Solomon, he's gonna come live with you on your farm. Spends all day in his wizard tower on the edge of town, but at night he comes home to his lil farmer spouse lsadlkjdfjkfdkjl.
Wow my worlds are colliding so hard right now I can't even deal with it. What I wouldn't give to have all these characters in a game where I could deliberately pursue and marry one of them!
Anyway, I totally love this and your ideas! I'm pretty sure I would do some unspeakable acts to have an Obey Me farm sim game like this.
#this is fantastic and I love it#thank you for sharing this with me#now I really wanna play one of those games again lol#obey me#obey me side characters#dread-bard#misc answers
