If you post screenshots from Threads, you’re getting blocked. I don’t give a shit what it’s about or how important it is. Blocked. On sight. Immediately.

Nice summary, I'm really liking Mastodon as a Twitter replacement partly because I always used the chronological friends list anyway. HMU if anyone wants help with it.
Hi Zoey. Asking from a place of ignorance, could you please explain why Threads is dogshit?
Threads is the Hot New Garbagedump by Certified Scum Of The Earth and Facebook/Meta owner Zuckerburg. It is like if twitter was even worse.
There is ONLY a For You page, meaning you can never just see the posts from your followed accounts who, yknow, you followed for the purpose of seeing their posts. You can't see those. you have to see the algorithm's posts ONLY. You also require an instagram to get full access to all the features like Posting Images. You need a separate social media account to properly access this new social media. And once you've done so, the only way to delete your Threads account, is to delete you instagram account. The Whole Thing. For Some Fucking Reason. Not to mention, obviously since it's zuckerburg, the thing syphons your personal information like crazy, worse still than twitter.
Like ALL your data. as much as it can get. (Love that it says "Other Data" btw. Nice subtle way of saying "whatever else we want") ALSO wouldn't you know it? It's fucking banned in the EU because it violates a bunch of fucking privacy laws!! So it's DEFINITELY not safe to use!
It is as predatory and exploitative as can be, created by someone that we collectively agreed Sucks Shit and Has No Empathy For Human Life and Individuality, and nobody should be touching it with a ten foot pole let alone sign up for it. Not even to test the waters or because it's where everyone is heading, or to see how bad it is for yourself. It doesn't matter if you're joining to get an account ready in case the platform ends up the new big thing. You're feeding the statistics. Even if you're not using that account, Zuckerburg can show the number of signups to shareholders and investors to prove to them that it's viable. Instead of jumping on the bandwagon in case it succeeds, inform people why they shouldn't join, to reduce its chance of success! It's like strikes and protests; The more of us get the word out, the more effective it'll be!

I see so many people starting to use Threads as a way to escape Twitter and yes, it's owned by Facebook's CEO and giving Facebook the monopoly of social media is bad but I think we should also talk about the fact that, you know, Threads isn't avalibe in the EU for privacy reasons????? That should be concerning to EVERYONE
#twitter#threads#just so there's no confusion: Meta is the one that isn't gonna release Threads to the EU#This is because they're afraid it won't pass GDPR#You should probably be aware the Facebook has recently gotten a fine of $1‚2M+ for breaching GDPR#So Meta doesn't want to try their luck. Since they don't seem to want to change how their app works#they are gonna wait until the EU confirms this#although it's pretty clear they are getting more data than they should

I'm honestly convinced that tumblr is going to win the social media war by doing literally next to nothing, twitter is fucking itself over, meta is fucking itself over, and meanwhile tumblr is just sitting there like "been there, done that, I warned you and you didn't listen"

yes threads is bad because facebook/meta is bad but as somebody who has worked in social media for years and kept up with every bad thing all these companies does knows, facebook/meta is bad on levels you cannot even fathom bc they have your ass even if you don't have an account. they're collecting data through facebook pixels on websites on you even if you don't have an account. they admitted it openly back in 2018. i mean so does google and a lot else, but - threads is fucking stupid and it will probably be a test to eventually have all its features rolled into IG and IG will just become Second Facebook, bc i DOUBT zuck will want to run a FOURTH separate social community and platform (bc meta also owns whatsapp), but just keep in mind it is....no better or worse than anything else. same with tiktok. they're all getting their ASS beat by the EU and GDPR regulations bc they're all still doing it and paying millions to fight in court.

"In some very important ways, however, Threads is different from Twitter. Most obviously, users have no real control over the content they see. Whereas Twitter users self-curate, at least partly, by deciding what accounts to follow, Threads' content is currently controlled entirely by algorithms."
are you fucking kidding me? WOW! THIS is what people are clamoring to sign up for?? WHAT THE FUCK IS WRONG WITH YOU PEOPLE! im legitimately shocked people are ok with this.

Oliver Willis at Daily Kos:
Meta, the parent company of Facebook, Instagram, and Threads led by CEO Mark Zuckerberg, has donated $1 million to Donald Trump’s inauguration committee. The news of the seven-figure donation comes just a few weeks after Zuckerberg went to Trump’s Mar-a-Lago estate for a private dinner with the president-elect. A spokesperson for Meta told the BBC at the time, “Mark was grateful for the invitation to join President Trump for dinner and the opportunity to meet with members of his team about the incoming administration.” Earlier in the year, Zuckerberg praised Trump as a “badass” for pumping his fist after Trump was shot at during a July 13 campaign rally in Butler, Pennsylvania.
Zuckerberg is one of the most influential technology and media executives on Earth and is worth over $219 billion as of Thursday morning, ranking as the fourth-richest person in the world. In the past, conservatives have derisively labeled his political donations as “Zuck bucks,” though they surely have a different take on the CEO’s latest contribution. Early in 2024, Meta announced it would limit the reach of political content on Threads and Instagram, meaning millions of people would simply not see information relating to the ongoing election. A subsequent investigation by The Washington Post found that the suppression of content across Meta’s platforms, including Facebook, meant that posts incidentally mentioning voting were hidden from millions of users. Meta’s actions occurred at the same time that Trump backer and megadonor Elon Musk opened the floodgates on X, formerly known as Twitter, to amplify right-wing content, including content from neo-Nazis and Republicans.
Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg sucks up to the felon-elect by donating $1M to Donald Trump’s 2nd inauguration.
