like I have plenty of critiques abt jc's behavior (I went back into my archives and I was WAY more understanding in 2021 lol but the fans pissed me right off) but I don't think he would do that, or then leave and then LIE TO JYL about it...he did put himself in between wwx and his mother to try to protect him, he did sacrifice himself for wwx later, he did sit down with jyl and promise to get wwx back while CRYING, he did search for him for months. as destructive as his anger is he's never been that out of control, and wwx at this time still has a very powerful gc

he has anger issues and he does take them out on wwx and he does hurt him when he's upset but this is just rly extreme for him, and its in order to set up a situation where wwx stays with the lans starting really early on, and I don't mind it enough to stop reading bc I also have my biases and my silly self-indulgences, and jc isnt even rly part of the story in most chapters and they come to an understanding, but I know it's really not in-character or fair to him. the author tries to make it even by saying jc really thought he was dead when he left but leaving a loved one's dead body just lying there in a field is a hideous thing to do, especially in that setting, so it doesn't really make him sound any better 😭
