Maybe this wasn’t your smartest choice in life.
Whether it’s the sobering reality of sitting in the after-guilt of praying for negativity, or a complete backfire that could’ve made things entirely worse—most times, an action made purely from spite and pettiness, never ends up well.
This was one of those times.
Where guilt and the possibility of a backfire merged into one—a single, enormous, dark mass of gut bubbling anxiety.
You were given very, very simple instructions only a few days prior to this moment. And yet, all because your last few messages to your boyfriend were being left unanswered and open on seen, your willingness to take matters into your own hands—to finally get his attention, brought you more than you bargained for.
You had no idea what was truly in store for you once you decided to misbehave and break one of his very simple rules.

He comes in without a knock.
The door, though brittle as it is, slams shut. The metal and leather of his jacket clink and slap as his back pounds against it. He has no care that he could break the door, or for the noise and late hour of his arrival.
This was his house. His rules.
“Good evenin’, sweetheart.”
If it wasn’t for that slight twang in his accent, or that wiley look that punctuates the end of his sentences, making everything he says just as comical as unsettling, it would have sounded more like a, Hello, Clarice— nonetheless, you still hold your breath.
“It’s half past ten,” you decide to say, looking down, making sure you don’t sound too sarcastic or displeased with his appearance. It’s just that you hated it when he came to your room, especially when all the other girls were right outside in the common room or in their bedrooms that neighbored yours. You much rather go to his room if you have to. It’s quiet and separate from the rest of the habitants of the Sanctuary. He could be as loud as he wanted— even though he always was anyway— but that would mostly be for you— so you didn’t have to feel so ashamed.
“Well would you prefer a Hey, sexy. Strip down. Ass up. then? Just get right to it?” You say nothing. “Cause I could.” Negan tilts his head sideways with a slight grin, his forehead protruding forward as he tries to find your eyes. All he sees is cheeks starting to flush, an embarrassed shake of your head, and eyes that stay stuck on your black ballerina flats.
You were sitting on the rear of your bed, only looking up sometimes. Recently, you were trying to get better with eye contact. You wanted to show that you’re not afraid of him anymore. It was supposed to be a silent statement that he wasn’t fooling you and that you weren’t softening up to him. That you know what this is, who he is; you’re cognizant of what he does to you, to the others girls, to people outside these walls. But, this didn’t work. No matter if you were looking down or up, you could never seem to get rid of that deer in the headlights look— The Roadkill Stare or The Corpse’s Bride as Negan called it— wide and bewildered, like he was going to run you over. Sometimes it made him feel sad. That there were moments where he could see you trying to resist your natural instinct to flinch when he comes near. But other times, it made him feel powerful. Not the fact that he scared you, but that he could see what was underneath it— that you were scared of yourself. He knows you like him. He knows from the way your face slightly twists as you suppress your snickers and smiles at his jokes when you two are alone, or when he makes fun of Simon for yet another one of his bad attempts at acting like him; when you think you’re doing well at maintaining that timid Tim Burton eyed version of a poker face. He knows you’re not completely scared of him, at least not anymore. Little by little, he’s learning to clock the nuances of your expressions: he sees how your eyes trail his body when he undresses in front of you, or the way you follow him as he walks to talk to this person or that, how you’re acutely aware of when and how he moves, your eyes flickering towards his hands before he gestures with them. It’s like you know too. As if you see his underneath the way he can for you. You’re becoming as familiar as he is.
He’s aware.
You can’t fool him any longer.
“Get up for me.” It’s a soft command said in his darkened voice. On instinct, you oblige. This is how it is. He walks closer, his fingertips lightly brushing slowly down your shoulder until he reaches your waist. He grabs you quick and close on both sides, pulling you straight against him. You gasp, arms swinging back slightly, back arching against him as he presses you on his lower abdomen and groin. You can feel his breath, and the heat of his intense gaze. “Kiss me.”
Your mouth is agape. Your breath shudders. You’re frozen.
You do nothing.
There you go again, his little fawn bride. If eyes could be any more rounder, symmetrical spheres, they’re yours. He could laugh but he doesn’t. He only repeats himself. Quietly, sternly, “You kiss me first this time.”
You had never done that before.
“Do I gotta say it a third?”
You shake your head. No.
Hesitantly, you reach up, touching his face with ghostlike fingertips, feeling the bristles of his beard as you bring yourself closer. Your lips are light and tentative as you finally press yours on his. For him, it was like being kissed by an angel. It makes him soften up for a moment, tilt your head up higher for you to give you more leverage. He kisses you just as sweetly. His thumb strokes your jaw.
After a few more kisses, you pull back to look at him. You hold his shoulders and he holds you by your waist. Your faces are so close, his eyes could almost be as wide as yours, and for a moment, it all feels so soft and dream-like. But quickly, the iridescence fades: before you realize it, he puts his tongue in your mouth forcefully, making your head roll back. The unexpected shift makes you gasp into his mouth.
He turns you around, slams you again your door. Your tall bureau near it bangs against the wall with you. Some of your folded clothes you had yet to put away and jewelry falls off the top as your head bounces.
Negan’s left hand runs down your body, sliding two fingers down under your dress and over your panties, pressing in at your slit. He finds wetness forming. His fingers make it more pronounced as he creates a wet spot.
“Tell me you want me,” he says as he starts to rub your clit.
You take a shaky breath inwards, covering a small moan.
Negan’s fingers slide inside your underwear and down right into your hole. He pumps slowly three times, never losing eye contact with you and then he takes them out. “Cause I want you,” and he proves it by putting the two fingers in his mouth and licking them clean, wiping his lips afterwards with his tongue. “Tell me you do too.”
Your breath remains heavy. Finally, you whisper, “I want you.”
He spins you around again. His back against the door once more, producing another slam you know all the girls will hear. He raises one of his legs and slots his thigh in between yours. His hands rest on your hips, rocking you against him. It feels good. Your thin cotton panties and bare thighs brushing and rocking against his that are rough and denim clad. You try to resist the urge to make any sounds because of how much you like it. “Tell me you need me.”
This makes you whine. “Can we—” you start to ask— and you can’t believe you’re even going to say it— “Can we just go to your room? Please?” Oh God, what would everyone at Alexandria think? They’d be so disappointed. They’d hate you. The wives have never been mean, they accepted you, understood your condition more than anyone else, but where you only had very educated guesses of what everyone at home would think of you, you had a stone hard fact of how the other girls were starting to see you. Their eyes could not lie as much as yours: you felt women’s growing glares of silent resentment whenever you were seen with Negan. He was more forgiving with you; never got too nasty about your habit of not speaking when you’re spoke to; he was gentle with his touch when others were watching; never made you hang out with any of the other men if you didn’t want to; and he talked to you, communicated more. They saw it. They knew it. They figured you were more in the know about things outside the Sancutary than they were. You tried to use it to keep them informed as well, as a way to preserve what little favor you had left, but now look at you, ruining it all as they’re forced to listen. Not only submitting to whatever he may do to you, but asking to change the location before it begins.
“No. You get me here or not at all.” You knew he wasn’t lying. His voice was stern. He looked you in the eye even if you weren’t looking back, you felt it. It told you that he wouldn’t budge, not even a little. “And you can sleep in those panties if that’s the case.”
You stay silent for a moment. Eyes peering into his wishing just your look could say it all. “Negan…” you whisper.
“Yes, baby?”
“I- I need you.”
In an instant, Negan pushes you off of him. His hands go to the ends of your dress and pull it off of you with your arms and hair flying.
“Take it off,” he demands after he throws you down on your bed.
You feet kick off your flats and you raise your hips to discard your panties, never losing sight of him as he rips off his jacket, unbuckles his belt, and crosses his arms to get rid of his shirt. You loved the look of his years-faded tattoos against his tan skin and the curves of his light muscles when he raises his arms.
You’re in a trance, not seeing that he sees that you’re doing it again. Bambi eyes trailing him down. It’s every time you guys do this. And fuck, you must think he’s sexy. He loves it. Because he knows he’s fucking sexy. He knows that pretty girls like you will always come around. You just can’t help it. His grin is as wide as your eyes because of it.
Negan is hard and he wastes no time. He’s been thinking about claiming you all day. He hooks his hands under your knees as you lay with your back flat on the bed.
Negan lines himself against you and immediately starts to piston himself inside of you, never completely pulling out. Your breast shake as his thrusts keep pushing you back. You felt like you were vibrating.
He is obsessed with this angle. Getting to see your face scrunch and twist and contort. Getting to hear your heavy pants and sighs. Getting to feel the squeeze of your pussy and he continues to push inside you fast, fast, fast.
And he’s mesmerized by your breast. The continuous bounce of your perky tits that were now his. He wants his mouth on them, he wants his dick between them, but for now he’ll just watch them jump and spring— it’s just as sexy to him. He might even have to cancel all of tomorrow's plans just to watch them fly all day like this.
Your head turns to your left side and you catch yourself in your full length mirror— the view is from head to the top of your waist. You see your left tit bouncing along with your head and stomach as Negan keeps pushing into it with no relent. Instantly you moan at the sight. Your hand swings to your face right after, your eyes closing shut.
Negan rips your fingers from off your mouth. “No,” he warns. “I know you like it—” you whine when he says that— “Stop hiding it. Look at yourself or I’ll stop.”
You don’t open them.
He stops.
“You gonna fuckin’ listen?”
Slowly, you ynclose your scrunched eyes, seeing yourself and your parted lips again.
“Good girl.” And then, Negan starts splitting you open again, making you shake. The sudden movement makes you moan, “oh- uh.”
“Tell me you want it.”
You don’t resist anymore. You continue to look at yourself in the mirror as you say, “I want it.”
“Tell me you need it.”
Your head turns to watch where your body connects with his. “Ohmygod, I need it.”
He growls as he follows your gaze, voice strained and rough like he’s going to punch something as he repeats, thrusting faster, “Tell me you fucking need it.”
“I need it.” Then you moan, “Negan, please!” You chant, “Please. Please, Negan, I need it!”
“You need it, baby?” He jeers. “You want me to give it to ya?”
You nod as you whine, tears almost coming out. Your breasts still bounce for him and you love it as much as you hate it. “Yes, Negan.”
“You know what I came in here to do, baby?”
You’re still whining, you're practically incoherent. His little fuck doll. All you can say is his name.
“Look at me when I tell you.”
Your eyes go up to his. Watching him as he continues to pump into you. You see how his body vigorously shakes in unison with yours. His skin and his pushing up and down, in and out, as he makes your body jump.
“I came in here,” he starts, losing his breath and trying not to falter from his thrusts as his face places itself above yours, “To show every single bitch in the goddamn house that you’re mine. And that you’re the only fuckin’ one.” You respond with only sex-filled sounds. You’re close to exploding. Your body still jumps along with his. Your bouncing breasts rubbing against his pex as he commands, “Tell me you want me to do it. You want me to make you come.”
As always, though this time it was because you were on the verge of losing all control, you give no answer.
His words bite at your parted lips as he repeats, “Tell me!” And he slaps the side of your ass.
The pang forces you to speak: “I want you to do it Negan please!”
Negan rises. His mouth circles as he moans. He holds your hips now, raising them off the bed as he pumps into your harder. “Say it again.”
“Do it, Negan, please. Please make me come.” With each word ending in moaning pants as you repeats, “Please- Please- Please- Please- Please-”
“Oh fuck,” his gutteral voice rasps and roars for all to hear. Your absolute submission brings him closer to the edge. He smiles widely knowing he’s about to come so hard in that tiny pussy of yours. “OH FUCKIN BOY,” he laughs, knowing he has the whole floor’s attention, not caring a single bit how any of it sounds. “GOD DAMN. THAT’S FUCKIN RIGHT. IM GONNA MAKE MY PRETTY LITTLE FUCKIN WIFE FUCKIN COME BECAUSE SHE’S- MY FUCKIN’- FAVORITE.”

Needs Must III
Pairing: Simon 'Ghost' Riley x F!Reader
WC: 2.2k
TW: frottage into outercourse, unprotected p in v, squirting, creampie. explicit smut.
18+ MDNI
“Hey, John—” and choke back a yelp when you realize that the person standing in front of you isn’t Johnny, but the one man you haven’t seen in months.
“What’s wrong? You look like you’ve seen a ghost.” Despite your shock, a sound of disgust escapes your lips involuntarily, causing him to chuckle. Ghost walks past you, brushing his bicep with your shoulder, and heads to the living room to take off his leather jacket, placing it on the backrest of your couch— and the gloves follow. You stood behind him, arms crossed, curling your socked toes nervously into the soft fibers of your carpet.
He leisurely rolls up the silky satin dress shirt sleeves, exposing the intricate tattoos adorning his forearms. Without turning around, he softly says, “C’mere, pet.” His deep baritone voice pulls at your heartstrings because it’s been so long, you missed him more than you’d like to admit. With a deep breath, you attempt to steady your racing heart, your gaze fixed on the ground, and slowly approach him.
“Oh?” and he tips your chin up with his finger, demanding your attention, noticing his amused smile. “Johnny fuck you into submission, er somethin’?” Blood rushes to your cheeks, and you’re unsure if it’s out of embarrassment or anger.
“Don’t look surprised. He’s my best friend.” Spluttering, you heatedly ask, “And what? Y’all just gossip like old hens over ‘work’?” finger quoting the last word. With a cheeky grin, he casually shrugs his shoulders. “Somethin’ like tha’. If you worried, he gave you a glowin’ review,” the grin turns into a slight sneer, “bastard.”
Ghost gives you a once-over, sweeping his eyes from your feet to your head, and holds your gaze for a second, then murmurs, “Come.” With a gentle yet commanding hold on your wrist, he pulls you towards the bedroom, and you’re reminded of the times he pinned both of your hands onto the bed with his large one— sending a very familiar ache between your legs. He sits you on the edge of the bed, toes his shoes off, and starts to undo the buttons on his shirt, exposing the strong muscles of his chest and his soft, slightly round stomach. He doesn’t even bother removing it fully, instead, he reaches for the waistband of your shorts. You extend your leg out, firmly pressing your dainty foot on his sternum, keeping him in place.
He stills, and you speak before he gets a chance to. “What’re you doing here, Ghost?” His heavy, dark gaze is unwavering, entrancing. “‘M here f’you. You didn’t honestly think tha’ I’d let you keep callin’ Johnny instead o’me?” He encircles your delicate ankle with his long fingers and pushes your leg to the side— the other hand taking the hem of your skirt, dragging it up until it bunches around your waist, and slots himself between your spread thighs. Lips brush against your cheek before moving up to your ear. “What is it? He treat you better than me?” His warm breath sends a shiver down your spine. Instead of waiting for a reply, he catches your earlobe with his teeth, nibbling on it. Your hands promptly fist the sides of his open shirt, mewling at the pinch of his bite. “Hm?” he questions as he grinds his clothed erection against your center.
You’re lightheaded from the sound of his voice, the heat of his body seeping into your skin, the smell of his cologne— a woody aromatic fragrance, all of it so fucking intoxicating. He delivers a sharp, stinging slap to the side of your thigh, demanding your attention, and it sends a jolt straight to your dripping cunt— making it contract around nothing. “He fuck you better than I have?” You give him a vigorous shake of your head, and a needy moan spills from your mouth as he gives your core a particularly hard thrust, the hard metal of the zipper rubbing against your clit. You begin to grind your hips down onto him and move one hand from his now very crinkled shirt, to hold on to the hairs at the nape of his neck.
“You boutta come all over my trousers, baby?”
And then his hands are on your waist, firmly keeping you in place. You whine loudly, you were so close—
“Then why did you stop seeing me?” Your head is so heavily clouded with arousal, drunk off of him that the answers tumble out unwittingly— mind solely focused on getting the friction back where you need it most.
“I wanted you all f’me,” slurring your words, “Guess the hand y’always used to choke me with kept the blood from flowing t’my head—” your rambling is cut off by his mouth slanting over yours, tongues entangling. He swallows all of the salacious noises you let slip, drinks them in, makes them his— makes you his. When he pulls away, you find yourself gasping for air. With a raspy voice, you mumble, “I thought you—” and he silences you with another hungry kiss.
“I only kiss what’s mine.” He hooks his thumbs into the band of your knickers and pulls them off, throwing them somewhere behind his shoulder. He swiftly undoes his trousers and steps out of them along with his boxer shorts. “Let’s play a game of Simon says, pet.” He maneuvered your hands to grab under your thighs, keeping them spread for him. Leaning forward, he leans on one arm, using the other to press the head of his cock on your puffy lips, holding it in place with his thumb. He slowly thrusts up, making sure you feel every ridge and vein against your swollen clit, “And I say, you come f’me, just” thrust “like” thrust “this.”
You push your hips down when he pulls back, up when he drags his thick cock up, delicious friction on your bundle of nerves. Every roll of his hips gets you closer to your climax, your pussy dripping slick down to your perineum. Your thighs start to tremble in your sweaty hands, body tense. “Oh my god. Ohmy—”
He shifts his weight from his arm to lean on his elbow, heavy body flush against yours, pressing you into the bed— fisting your hair and pulling it taut, tilting your face up to his.
“It’s either my name or none at all.” He punctuates the syllables with his thrusts. “Si - mon.”
Releasing your thighs, you dig your nails into the sides of his waist, grip tightening at your impending orgasm. Simon grunts a low, gravelly sound. “There they are. My kitten’s sharp claws,” one more thrust, then again, he moans, “Come f’me, baby.” And you tip over the edge. Anything he might’ve said after is completely muted either by the ringing in your ears or the wail that clawed out of your throat. Collapsing, you twitch and shake in Simon’s arms, taking in ragged breaths.
“You with me?” giving him a weak nod. Slowly, he pulls away, and there’s clear, stringy liquid dripping from his tip connecting to the hood of your pussy. He moves you to lie in the middle of the bed gently, body completely limp, plain dead weight, then walks to your nightstand. “What’s with all the lambskin condoms?”
A soft, relaxed sigh slips out of you. “Johnny’s allergic to latex, I had no idea. Had to go without one the first time.” Simon lets out a drawn-out hum, then drops the protection back into the drawer. He shrugs off his damp satin shirt, then gets on the bed, crawling over you— covering your body easily with his, and prods his bare cock at your entrance.
“But you’re mine now, aren’t you? Gonna let me take what’s mine?” Swallowing thickly, you look at him, and his eyes are dark, glittering— gaze intense. Maybe you took too long to answer because he starts to slowly push the tip in, and hisses, “You’re mine, only mine. Got it?” and your tight, rippling walls stretch around his invasion. Your breathy moan is cut off when he bottoms out, flared head firmly pressing into your cervix. He’s at a dead end, and he grinds down, almost like he’s trying to push it past that, feeling a deep pinch at the entrance of your womb. The pressure is punishing, incessant, you swear you can feel him in your throat. “Nod if you understand,” he snarls.
You do as he says, no commands, nodding with messy, jerky movements. “Good girl.” He relents, pulling back to sit on his haunches to press one leg into your bed and hook the other over his shoulder. Wordlessly, he sets a fast pace, but his thrusts are shallow, in a staccato rhythm— and fuck him, because he knows precisely where to hit. Ruthless prodding against your sweet spot, over and over again. It feels like jabs to the underside of your bladder, and every tap makes that feeling sharper, acute. Oh no. Nono—
You know exactly what’s going to happen. Your eyes glisten with tears, cascading down your cheeks, as the overwhelming sensation takes hold, and with every thrust, it only becomes more concentrated.
“Awh, my poor pet. Feels tha’ good, does it? Look at you, cryin’.” You can't find it in you to be even the slightest bit humiliated because you’re about to lose the last of your sanity, he’s about to break you. You can’t even control the shrill moans Simon all but punches out of you.
“Oh, I’d recognize tha’ cross-eyed look anywhere.” He chuckles, “C’mon then. Make a mess f’me.” His thrusts are unyielding in his pursuit of what he’s about to make you do. “Squirt f’me, pretty.” Your eyes roll to the back of your head as your body locks tight, and this time you scream. Liquid warmth floods in between your legs, drenching yourself, your bed, Simon— but you don’t care. There isn’t a single thought in that empty head of yours.
Simon was languidly thrusting, fucking you through the aftershocks until a wavering breath escapes your lips, mirroring the shaky tremors that are currently rippling through your body. As he leans in, his lips softly caress your face, wiping away any stray tears that remain, and the spit that drooled out of your mouth. “You did so well f’me.” Your eyes widen at the feel of his solid, heavy cock still at full mast inside of you.
He changes position, this time hooking the other leg over his shoulder, then gives you one soft thrust and you distinctly hiss, oversensitized. Simon presses your knees into you with his body weight, pinning you down fully, with no escape, and loops his arms underneath your torso to grab onto your shoulders— and starts snapping his hips viciously. A merciless pace, each slap of his hips against your ass making your pussy squelch obscenely, and there’s nothing you can do other than take his assault. It is unbelievable, how just seconds before were squirming away from him because of how tender you were, and here you are, about to fall over another mind-numbing edge.
“If you want me to come, then squeeze that tight cunt and wrench it out of me.” He pounded into you harder, the headboard of your bed furiously smacking against the wall that you know there’ll be cracks on it. Crying out, he continuously hits the deepest part of your pussy, and you come undone. Vision darkening, you’re slammed with wave after wave of pleasure, your walls squeezing him so tight, you’re strangling his cock and he makes a choked sound.
“Oh-of, f-fu-” he lets out a low, drawn-out moan that lasts all four last thrusts— before his hips stutter, and finally still, spurting thick, sticky white ropes of cum into you.
—
The room was echoing with both of your heavy inhales, desperate to fill your lungs with air. It was humid, smelt of sex and body sweat. Simon grunts as he turns to his side, getting off of you, and the sharp gasp of air you intake is comical.
“Am I tha’ heavy, love?”
You look like you’re tittering on the edge of consciousness, but snort and answer him. “Yes. Obviously. The only thing small about you is your humility.” He gives a belly laugh and leans in to give you one last sweet, tender kiss.
“Go to sleep, love. I’ll take you out for breakfast tomorrow, maybe meet some of my friends.”
“You mean Kyle and John? They’re very nice.” He falters because what? But you were already softly snoring.
Stretching his arm across the nightstand, he swiftly retrieves his phone and a mischievous grin spreads across his face upon seeing a text from Johnny from hours ago.
Ya really answered her text on my phone pretending to be me. Pussywhipped.
You really told her you’re allergic to latex, when you use latex gloves to cook.
Oof. Fair.
And you’re gonna explain to me why she knows Gaz n Price.
Jus’ sharin the love, Simon.
Sucking his teeth, he puts his phone underneath the pillow, and loops an arm around your waist, pulling you to him. With a tender kiss on your sweaty forehead, he drifts off into a peaceful sleep.
A/N: ngl i was fighting for my life? shit had me aroused. oof. im def writing price and kyle into this because 141 til i die. maybe a könig? unsure.

Ghost x asmr artist reader
2.2k | fluff Simon had a pepper problem and a pasta dilemma
Simon stilled when he heard it. In the middle of the deserted pasta aisle, his hand froze mid-air as he reached for a box.
That voice.
He threw the box into his basket and rounded the corner into the next aisle. The staff you thanked had walked away, leaving you to scan the wall of bottled spices.
He blinked. Could it really be, or was it another trick of his mind? What was the end game here anyway? He had no excuse to be staring for more than 5 seconds.
You turned to him. He noticed the little startle before you shoved your phone back in your pocket.
Was it scarier if he slipped away now? But curiosity got the best of him and he made his way to stand next to you. You took a step sideways, giving him space.
He needed to confirm he wasn’t imagining it.
He cleared his throat. “Sorry, which pepper would you recommend, white or black?”
You blinked up at him before answering. “It depends on what you’re cooking, but in general I’d rather white.”
It really was you, wasn’t it? That voice was unmistakeable, always soothing and sweet.
You pointed. “This is the brand I use. It smells better than the rest.”
He recognised your gentle hands, fingers nimble and nails neat as you completed tasks on camera. There was no denying it now.
Your quiet cooking videos were one of the only things left that offered him calmness, especially on those nights away on missions, giving him tingles in all the right places, and shamefully, the wrong ones too sometimes.
Simon wasn’t picky – he always appreciated any sort of warm food, but he especially loved women who cooked. But you and your voice? There was something so soft and domestic about you making these meals with care – a taste he craved.
Could you really blame a soldier with no one to come home to for having a little crush?
It was silly, he knew. But it didn’t stop him for commissioning you to cook his late mum’s recipes. Having you say his name always made his heart flutter.
“Thank you,” he grunted, dropping the item into his basket.
“You’re welcome.” You flashed him a smile before going back to the herbs in front of you. You took a bottle and turned away.
“Ah- I’m sorry,“ he managed, flustered by your sudden exit. “I didn’t want to be presumptuous, but you make those videos, don’t you? I recognised your voice.”
You grinned, turning to him.
“I just wanted to thank you,” he said. “Your videos comfort me a lot.”
“I’m happy to hear. Thank you for watching.”
Simon wanted to tug his beanie over his face because as you walked away, he was unmoving with a racing heart and a blush over his pale cheeks.
Life carried on. Deployments with the 141 occupied his mind most of the time, but if Simon was lucky, he’d hop online to a new video of yours. Despite the uncomfortable circumstances, your quiet yet crisp voice always sent him into a restful slumber.
The chance encounter only fuelled his attraction. Knowing the kind smile behind the sweetest voice felt like an intimate secret, one you shared with him and only him - not with the rest of your few thousand subscribers.
So months and a few more commissions later, when he saw you again at the same supermarket, he could only chew on his lip and turn away. He didn’t need to slip further into delusion. That, and he didn’t want to scare you with his staring problem. It was clear how ominous he was to strangers with his size and unsmiling face.
But when he was once again in the pasta aisle, torn between spaghetti and fettuccine, that voice blessed his ears.
“Hiya.”
He turned to you smiling up at him. “You remember me?” he asked incredulously.
“Hard to forget you.” Your face dropped. “Oh, no, I didn’t- I meant you’re easy to remember. You’re tall-“
He gave you a crooked smile. He could only blame the weather for the heat rising up his neck. “I get that a lot.”
“Well, I wanted to ask how you liked the pepper.”
“It tasted like pepper.”
You laughed and he wanted to bite his lip. He felt like a schoolboy at a loss for words in front of a pretty girl.
His gaze dropped to your hefty basket. Minced meat, potatoes, carrots, a bag of peas… You nestled a box of pasta on one side.
“Making Shepherd’s pie tonight.”
He nodded. It was his favourite, especially his mum’s.
“Someone sent in a recipe for a video, and it’s absolutely delicious. I’ve been making it at least once a month ever since.”
“Simon?”
“Yes! You’ve seen it?”
More times that I’d like to admit. “It’s me. I sent you it.”
“Oh, I can’t believe it’s you! You’ve always been too generous with your tips.” You beamed. “The last recipe you sent, I promise I’ll get around to it next week. It’s just work has been ultra busy.”
“The brownies? Don’t worry about it. Take your time.”
“You know what, don’t tip me anymore. Send me a recipe whenever. You always have wonderful ones.”
He wasn’t going to stop, but he nodded anyway and the both of you lingered.
You averted your gaze. “Okay, I’ll leave you to it.”
“I’m done.” He popped both the spaghetti and fettuccine into his basket.
“Right. Well, I’m just heading to the check out now.”
“I can help you with that if you’d like.” He gestured at your shopping.
“Thank you so much.”
As he stood in the short queue (a respectful distance behind you of course), he tossed a few boxes of creme eggs into his basket.
“I haven’t had those in forever.”
“They’re decent.”
Who was he kidding. They were more than decent. He’d developed a terrible sweet tooth ever since he enlisted; always grateful of whatever he could get his hands on. But creme eggs? He had to grab them before they were gone.
You laughed. “I think it’s only fitting to top your brownies with something you like.” You popped a box into your basket.
Could he like you any more? He would die for a bite.
“Sounds lovely. I’m looking forward to it.”
Your smile lingered before turning to the cashier to settle your shopping. When it was his turn, you waited for him on the side. He hauled his bag over his shoulder, still insisting on carrying yours as you exited the supermarket.
“I’ll help you to your car.”
“I walked here. Unless you want to walk me back home?” you teased.
“I do, if you’d let me,” he deadpanned.
“You don’t even know if I live nearby.”
“Doesn’t matter.”
You smiled up at him a moment longer. “Would you like to stay for dinner? It should be done in about an hour, if you’ve got the time.”
Can’t say no to you. “I don’t have anywhere to be.”
You led the short walk to your flat as he tried to not gawk at the way breeze ran its fingers through your hair. While you put your belongings away, Simon took his grey hoodie and cap off, and draped them over the back of the dining chair. He combed his hair back with his fingers, hoping his hat hair wasn’t terrible. He caught the double take you did at his tattooed arm.
You put on instrumental music and pulled out a stack of recipes from the cabinet. Simon’s Shepherd’s pie, you’d scrawled onto the card.
“I can help with the mash.” He ripped open the bag of potatoes.
You simmered a pot of water as he peeled and cut the potatoes before you prepared the meat filling next to him.
It had been forever since he was in a kitchen with another soul. And although he wasn’t very sure of his own skills, watching your videos so much paid off.
In real life you were much quicker, but just as graceful and firm with your movements as you chopped and stirred. The rich scent of caramelised meat drifting in the room wrapped around him like a warm blanket.
“You’re definitely the better cook here.” You tipped the filling into a large baking dish.
He reloaded the steaming potato pieces into the ricer. “No, if I’m honest I’m pretty shit at it.”
You laughed. “But you’re really good with knives.”
Probably not the kitchen kind. “I was an apprentice butcher before I enlisted.” He pressed down on the ricer with ease.
“Huh.”
“Really, I’m lousy at best.” His lips curled into a fond smile. “My mum was fantastic though. The recipes were hers.”
There was a beat. “I’m sorry, Simon.”
“S’fine.” He glanced up at you before going back to his task. “She’s in a better place.”
While the pie baked, he helped clean up the kitchen and make tea. You set the table before putting away your shopping.
“I’m going to have one while we wait.” You turned to him, showing him a creme egg. “You want to share?”
Simon gave you a sheepish smile as he nodded.
Between sips of tea, you enjoyed your own halves of the chocolate wordlessly, the music melting into the background. He wished he had more to say, but the small smile you wore told him you didn’t mind the silence.
The savoury aroma glided past the thin gaps of the oven, swirling and dancing between you and him. His appetite was losing its patience. He let out a silent sigh, taking in your kitchen, your home, before it flattened once more into a mere video on his screen at the end of the night.
When the oven dinged, you promptly put on your mitts.
“It looks mint,” he said as you placed the dish in the middle of the table.
“Team effort. It took much less time with you helping.” You scooped a serving onto his plate. ”I know I’m supposed to wait for it cool down a bit, but I’m impatient.”
He chuckled. “Me too.”
He waited until you took a bite before taking his own, and his breath caught. His brows furrowed as lump formed in his throat.
Had the ground cracked and plunged him into a glitched universe? He was once more in Manchester, 10 years younger, finally home after a long day at the butcher, his mum and brother waiting at the table with the piping hot dish in the middle of it.
He placed his fork down, chills down his spine.
“Simon?” you asked quietly. “You alright?”
He pressed a palm over his eyes, but he couldn’t help the choke that followed as a tear slipped.
“I’m sorry,” he croaked. “It’s- it’s just like the one she made.”
You dragged your seat next to his and rubbed his shoulder.
The last thing he wanted to do in front of you was shed a tear, but there he was, some hulking stranger sobbing on your shoulder as nostalgia held him in a death grip.
It was humiliating to be seen like this – he didn’t remember the last time he cried from feelings, yet the tears wouldn’t cease despite his efforts. But you held him close, and his thick arms wrapped around you. He told himself if he pulled you close enough, it would hurt less.
You stroked his wide back until his breathing eventually evened out. His arms loosened around you.
“I’m so sorry,” he said again, wiping his drying tears away. “I’ll just finish this and go.”
“Please, have as much as you’d like. In fact, it would be an honour if you want to take the rest home.”
“Thank you,” he muttered, not meeting your eyes.
You dragged your seat back across him and dinner resumed. Simon savoured each bite with a small smile, chest glowing with the tender memories of Manchester – when it was still more than just a city on the map.
You scooped him another serving. “I mean it. You’re very much welcome to send me more recipes.”
He finally met your gaze, and he held it. “She would have loved you.”
His heart stopped as soon as the words unwittingly rolled off his tongue. Who was he to say that out loud? How dare he have the audacity to even entertain the idea.
A bright smile bloomed on your beautiful face. “Yeah? I think I’d have loved her too.”
Simon’s heart fluttered. Why did you keep doing this to him?
“If you’ve got another hour to spare, would you like to bake brownies with me?”
It was his turn to smile. There’s nowhere else I’d rather be.

it's been almost a year since you'd joined the taskforce. nearly twelve months of gruelling hard work, and not for a single second had lieutenant ghost treated you with a shred of familiarity. at first, you thought he'd get over it, that he'd get past his obvious trust issues and warm up to you eventually, but you quickly gave up on that idea.
clearly, you'd been too optimistic.
which was unfortunate, considering how much you'd come to care for the prickly bastard, no matter how dismissive he was of you. it started slow; when you were first recruited, you held a great deal of respect for him because of his reputation, and you'd naively even looked forward to working with him. when you discovered his less than friendly demeanour, to say you were disheartened would be an understatement. he was withdrawn and stoic, never sparing you so much as a passing glance and a barked order, whether you were in the field or not.
the other sergeants had assured you that he wasn't as cold as he comes across; soap and gaz both told you how he'd acted the same towards them when they first met – he was a lone wolf, not used to having to look out for teammates.
the more time you spent on missions with him, the more you saw of the person beneath the hard exterior. you saw how he seemed to know everyone's strengths and weaknesses, things you never would've picked up on. he always made sure the team had eaten, disguised as a gruff order to stay on your game. when he got angry, it would be because someone put themselves in danger, not because they screwed up the mission. you saw someone who'd been through hell and come out the other side swinging.
before, you'd respected ghost as a soldier and your superior, but now, after spending so much time with him, your perspective of him has changed. he intrigued you; he's quiet, introverted but not shy, more observant than you could imagine, and so closely guarded you wondered if he'd ever be able to open up. you'd only heard whispers of the things he'd been through in the past, so despite his obvious animosity towards you, you treated him with the respect you thought he deserved – like a person, and you'd hoped that with time, he could see you as more than just a soldier too. though he still didn't like you, you liked to think that the two of you have come to some sort of understanding.
and that leads you to your problem; you wanted to know him. every tiny crack in his facade made you more and more curious about the man behind the mask – about simon, rather than ghost, but from what you could tell, he didn't hold the same sentiment about you. where he would banter back and forth with the others over comms, he'd fall silent whenever you join in. every minute little mistake was amplified to him, you've lost count of the amount of times he's berated you for things he's excused for others. it made your heart ache that you just couldn't win with him, and you feared you'd never understand why.
but now, as you sit shivering with a shock blanket wrapped around your shoulders, watching the smouldering remains of what was your home in the middle of the night, freezing and exhausted, you'd never felt more hated.
you could hear them, ghost and the captain, talking in hushed voices a little ways down the road from where you sit. they probably think they're being subtle, discussing what to do with you like you're not even there, like every single one of your worldly possessions hadn't just gone up in smoke, but you hear them as if they're standing right in front of you.
"i wouldn't do this if there were any other options, simon."
"there are plenty of other options, just stick 'em in a hotel for god's sake."
"there's no hotels close enough to base – it'll only be temporary, 'till we can find 'em somewhere else."
"fuckin' hell, why cant they go with one of the others?"
"soap and gaz are already flatmates, you live alone and you're the closest to base. this is the only option that makes sense."
"i'm not fuckin' happy about this, price."
their profiles are momentarily illuminated by the blue lights from the fire engine parked nearby, allowing you for a second to see the withering glare ghost is sending your way, and all of a sudden the last couple hours of emotional distress is crashing down on you; his obvious distaste for you combined with the toll of watching your house literally burning down was too much for you all at once. you could feel the tears start to spill over again, but you can’t find the strength to stop them and just bring the shock blanket closer to your face. you’d lost everything, and even now he couldn’t find it in himself to feel an ounce of compassion for you? why can’t he care for you like he does the others? like you do for him?
as your watery gaze drops to the soot and ash covering your pyjamas, a voice sounds from beside you, the opposite direction from price and ghost. you don’t even realise you’re hyperventilating until they lay a hand on your shoulder and rub soothing circles into your back.
“hey– hey, it’s okay,” it’s gaz, you notice in the back of your mind, sitting on the curb next to you. you squeeze your eyes shut in an attempt to block out the world around you, and gaz brings you closer into his embrace. “you’ll be alright, we’ll get everything sorted, yeah?”
"i– i don't– i can't–" you try to speak, but you can't seem to form a coherent sentence through your sobbing.
"it's alright, just breathe for me." gaz hugs you tighter again, your head coming to rest on his shoulder as he consoles you. for a few minutes you stay like that, your breathing eventuslly returning to normal and the tears slowing to a stop.
price and ghost are still arguing, but you can't hear what they're saying anymore; probably for the best, if you had to listen to ghost complain about you for one more second you might really have a breakdown.
soap's voice cuts through the fog in your mind, "managed to find this, thought ya' might want it." you look up to find him crouching in front of you and holding out a slightly singed photo, a weak smile on his face. "frame's broken, but the picture's still mostly fine."
you take it from him, fingers grasping the card gently as you turn it around to look at the picture. it's from a few years ago, you and your friends from your previous unit, smiling into the camera as if you had no worries at all. staring at the ghosts of your friends starts you crying again, clutching the photo to your chest and leaning back into gaz's shoulder. if anything could've survived the blaze, you're grateful it was this. gaz rubs your arm sofly, whispering comforting words to you again.
you hear another set of footsteps approach and look up again to see price now standing in front of you as well. it's not exactly surprising, but ghost is nowhere to be seen.
"ambulance is here," price says, offering you a hand and pulling you to your feet when you take it. "i'll follow behind to the hospital, one of you two take their car to simon's."
you nod and retrieve your car keys from your jacket pocket, thankful you'd had the mind to grab it on your way out in your frantic state.
"I've got a bag in the boot, it's got some clothes in it." you mutter, handing the keys to soap, who smiles and gives you a pat on the shoulder.
"no bother, i'll grab it for ya." he says, and jogs off to where your car was parked, thankfully untouched out of reach of the fire. he returns not a minute layer carrying your duffle of emergency supplies, something you never thought would actually come in handy.
before you know it you're waving gaz and soap goodbye, the paramedics are guiding you to the back of the ambulance, and you're leaving what remains of your old home in the rear-view mirror.
✹✹✹
you hated hospitals. it was a fact, and it had been that way since you were a child, everything about them just made your skin crawl. perhaps you inherited the feeling from your mother; she always managed to bring up her distaste for the place whenever the topic arose. or, maybe you only hated them because they scared you.
either way, the relief you felt as you stepped out of the front door into the car park with price trailing behind you was palpable. he falls into step next to you as the two of you make your way over to where he parked, his keys jingling as he fishes them from his pocket.
"we're puttin' you up with simon for the time being, 'till we can get you somewhere else." his words make you wince; you already knew he was going to say that, but it didn't stop the anxiety from bubbling up in your chest.
"i heard." a beat of silence passes before you continue. "how long will that take?" you ask, climbing into the passenger seat and dropping your bag at your feet as price settles into the driver's side.
"i wouldn't get your hopes up. might be quicker to wait for 'em to rebuild your old place." he flashes you a smile, but you can't find it in yourself to return the gesture.
"right."
neither of you say another word as he starts the engine and pulls out of the car park. you turn to look out the window, watching the world go by, the quiet rambling of the radio serving as white noise in the background. it's the early hours of the morning now, the sun would be up in a few hours and you'd have to go back to work already – price did say you could have the day off, but honestly the last thing you wanted was to sit around all day with nothing to do but overthink.
after nearly ten minutes of trying to ignore it, the worry playing at your mind becomes too much to keep to yourself.
"you know he hates me, right?" you utter, half expecting price to ignore your question all together.
he clicks his tongue. "he doesn't hate you," price replies, and his voice sounds reassuring but it doesn't bring you much comfort.
"okay, well, he doesn't like me either." you turn your head to look at him, raising your brows. rolling to a stop at a red light, he meets your eyes and huffs.
"alright, he can be difficult–"
"really?"
"–but i promise you, he doesn't hate you." he says. you give him a disbelieving look, and he sighs, looking back to the road as the light turns green. "give him a chance, alright?"
"is he gonna give me a chance?"
"he will." price says firmly, sparing you a look as he drives down the quiet road. "and if he doesn't, you'll knock some sense into him, eh?"
"sure…" you mutter, looking back out the window and falling back into silence. its only a few minutes until he's pulling over to the side of the road, outside the house number you know to be ghost's.
"sting," price calls out, stopping you as you reach for the door handle, "he'll come around, alright?"
"it's been a year, cap. i don't think he will." you reply, and before he can say anything else you open the door and step out into the night air, grabbing your bag from your feet before closing the door again. you give price a half-hearted wave as he pulls away again, before turning around and gazing up at your – temporary – new home.
it was nice, all things considered; a standard terrace on the end of the row, but the size has you wondering if there was even room for you to stay here. though it's not as if you have a choice. all the lights were off, which had you hopeful that you wouldn't run into ghost just yet.
you drag yourself to the front door, your eyes stinging from the effort of keeping them open, and twist the handle as quietly as possible, closing it behind you and cringing at the clunk it makes. thankfully ghost didn't hate you enough to lock you out for the night, something you actually wouldn't put past him considering how he feels about you.
there's a small side table in the entryway that catches your attention. on top of it sits your car keys – you make a mental note to thank soap in the morning – a new key, and a note. you pick up the paper, using the torch from your phone to examine the scratchy handwriting.
living room's yours. lock the door. – s
it's more than you expected from him. you sigh to yourself and pick up the other key, locking the door and shuffling into the small living room. the pull-out bed is made up for you, albeit quite messily, and you waste no time in dropping your stuff and laying your head down on the lumpy pillow.
with any luck, this arrangement wouldn't last long, but in the meantime you got the feeling you were in for a bumpy ride.

best friend!simon riley picking you up from a bad date —
words: 2.2k rating: nothing explicit apart from a brief mention of sex, just some light angst and comfort. my blog is 18+ so minors please dni. warning: hurt/comfort, fluff, pet names, insecurity/doubt/worry, mentions of sex, simon is the softie we all know he is notes: originally written for @ghosts-cyphera ♡ we all need a bestfriend!simon in our lives who's so sweet and gentle with us.
One thing you love about Simon — besides everything — is how reliable he is. Strong, steadfast, there when you need him. Even when he’s not physically there — his work taking him away for weeks or even months at a time — you find yourself reading over the messages he’s sent, the little sticky notes he’s left, whatever memento you’ve kept of him tucked away in the drawer in your bedside table.
Not that you’ll tell him that.
You hate asking him for favors — asking anyone for favors, really, but him especially. Whenever you ask someone for help, it's always accompanied by a long-suffering sigh or a roll of the eyes or some very clear indication that they'd rather do anything else.
Except for Simon.
Which is why you're hesitant to ask him more than you absolutely need to. You don't want to push your luck too far, less he eventually tires of you as well.
Losing people hurts, always assuming it's you that caused the problem. You've come to accept this, even if the dark feelings of being too much or a burden claw at the edges of your mind.
But losing Simon? You don't think you'd ever get over that.
It's just after 9pm, the sky dark and clouds threatening, with thunder rumbling steadily in the sky. Your hand shakes as you fumble your phone from your pocket, trying to hold tears at bay as you scroll through your contacts.
Your call log is all Simon.
Some appointments here and there, but Simon everywhere else.
Fuck.
You hiccup, the tears spilling from your eyes as the sky finally opens up, joining you in your mourning.
You don't have any other choice, really, so you click his number before you can talk yourself out of it and walk home instead, bringing it up to your ear as it rings.
He answers before the third ring.
"I'm so sorry to bother you," you sniffle into the phone, before he has a chance to say anything. You take in a sharp breath, blood turning to ice. "Am i bothering you?" you sound so meek and small and tired. “No, dove, you’re not,” comes his calm, reassuring voice. You’re only half-convinced.
"I'm sorry," you begin again. Your heart falls to your stomach, convincing yourself that this is his final straw. You're overtaken by a wave of nausea, despite not having eaten anything since lunch. "I didn't know who else to call, and I lost my tram pass, and I don't have an umbrella, and — "
“Dove,” he says, his accent soothing to your ears — he's so endlessly patient and kind. You ache.
"I can just walk home, I-I'm sorry," you whimper out, unable to stop the tears blurring your vision, feeling pathetic and weak and so, so alone. “Darling,” he says, a little stern. Not angry, never angry. Trying to focus you. “What’s wrong?”
“U-um, my date stood me up,” you sniff, swallowing hard. "I waited an hour," you mumble, looking to your shoes. "Messaged him too, y'know. He just. Didn't show."
You think you hear Simon curse over the line and your heart lurches, feeling like you're about to be sick. “Where are you?”
There's a rustle of fabric, the clink of keys, the heel of his boot walking across his floor. You manage to tell him the name of the restaurant, voice cracking. “Twenty minutes,” he says, and you’re about to protest but he beats you to it. “Sit there and be good and patient and I’ll pick you up, yeah?”
"Okay," you whisper in agreement, before the line clicks dead and you allow yourself to cry, huddling under the awning as some protection from the rain, now coming down in thick, sharp waves.
Thirteen minutes later, the headlights of his truck shine through the dark, pulling up to the curb. You make a mad dash for the passenger door, still getting drenched in the process.
You can't even look at him, hands shaking as you buckle the belt, trying to make yourself as small as possible.
He says your name gently. You take in a shuddering breath and let it out just as shaky, looking over towards him. He's wearing his balaclava, but his eyes — even in the dark, you can make out his beautiful eyes. Assessing you, worrying.
"I'm sorry," you croak out. You can't help it. It's burned into your tongue, driven into your mind to make him understand you didn't want to bother him. He doesn't have to forgive you, but as long as he knows, that's enough.
"Love," he says, and there's... something in his voice, as he reaches over for your hand, holding it gently in his own. His eyes never leave yours. "'m never gonna be mad about you askin' for help." Your eyes flit away, but he squeezes your hand and you reluctantly look back. "You know me better than that," he says, as if he can read the treacherous thoughts swirling in your head, drowning you and making it hard to breathe.
You can only nod, not trusting your voice at the moment. He hums, bringing the back of your hand up to graze his covered lips over the back, pulling out to drive you back.
"This is your flat," you say, fifteen minutes later as he shuts the car off. You were too busy looking at the window, watching the rain drops race down the glass, to notice that he wasn't driving the familiar route to your place.
"Yes," he replies, as if it's obvious he'd bring you here. "You really think I'd let you stay home alone?"
His eyes are so fucking bright. It startles you, and you hate how your heart twists and thumps at how intently he's looking.
"I..." you start, chewing on your bottom lip for a moment. His eyes flicker to your lips, snapping away just as quick. "I was gonna eat ice cream and drink shitty, cheap wine," you say.
"As if I don't have either of those things here," he replies, opening the door and effectively ending the conversation. You scramble after him, eager to be inside in the warmth and burrow yourself into his couch.
"Go get changed," he says, voice clear as he removes the balaclava and bends to untie his shoes.
You hesitate for a second, until he looks up to you and there's that something lingering in his gaze — the same something that was in his voice.
"Go on now," he repeats, softer, and you ditch your shoes and your uncomfortably wet jacket by his.
His flat is as familiar as your own — you could walk through it blindfolded at night and you wouldn't knock into a single thing.
Well.
You might knock into a corner or two, but that's not a vision thing. It's a you're a bit clumsy thing. Simon finds it endlessly amusing, poking at the bruises that blossom on your skin while you bat his hand away.
His bedroom is familiar as well. Which is why you don't think twice before you're shimmying out of your clothes — undergarments as well — and rifling through his drawers, finding your favorite shirt of his and a pair of his boxers.
You take a moment to smell the collar, taking comfort in the scent that lingers. You’ve been dressed in his clothes many times before this but it feels different this time.
As you pad back out to the living room, Simon’s already on the couch. Your favorite blanket is draped across his lap, two bowls of ice cream and a bottle of cheap wine sitting open, glasses filled far more than you would’ve. You’ll indulge him, mostly because you have the sneaking suspicion that he’ll have you sleep here anyways.
His balaclava is off. The last dregs of tension drain from you as he looks over to you, face soft in the lowlight of the lamp, tv ready with a show you’ve watched a thousand times that he watches with you without complaint.
“Knew you’d choose that one,” he says with a bit of a smirk as you crawl on the couch, burrowing yourself into his side, his arm slinging across the back of the cushion.
“Am I that predictable?” you mumble, a small thank you as he hands you a bowl.
He doesn’t answer, but you feel the burn of his stare before he snorts, flicking the tv to start playing, the familiar theme relaxing you further.
The silence with him is comfortable, lingering in a hazy in-between of awake and sleep, empty bowls and mostly empty glasses sitting on the coffee table.
“Were you going to fuck him?” he asks, three episodes in, bottle empty.
You blink, not sure if you heard him properly as you pull back to look at him. You can’t read his eyes. Something hot twists in your gut.
“I-I don’t know, Simon,” you start, the weight of his stare heavy. “Maybe?”
He doesn’t say anything and you chew your lip for a moment, fingers curling to play with the blanket. “Depends how the date went, I suppose. Doesn’t matter much now,” you snort. His gaze hasn’t changed. “Why?”
His jaw clicks, taking a deep breath. “You deserve better ‘n that.”
A confused frown pulls at your mouth, unsure how to reply. “I know how to be safe,” you tell him, voice soft.
He seems to be weighing his words in his head, lowering the volume of the show. You feel sick.
Dark eyes rove over your face, taking in every minute detail. You bite at your nail, just for something to do.
“Don’t think there’s a bloke in the world that’s worthy of ya.”
Your frown deepens, breaking your eyes from his, twisting your fingers in your lap. Relationships aren’t easy. Being that vulnerable with someone isn’t easy.
You never want someone to pay for you, and even the smallest gestures like opening the car door or pulling out your chair feel like it’s too much. You don’t deserve that kind of attention. After a while, they’ll get tired. You’ll become a burden to them like everything else in your life.
It’s easier to be by yourself. The only person you have to worry about bothering is you.
“Love.” He tilts his head, eyes trying to catch yours. How hasn’t he gotten tired of you yet?
A hand under your chin forces your gaze up, and you try to shrink yourself against the back of the couch. Your voice catches in your throat, words stuck there.
“What’s goin’ on in tha’ pretty head f’yours?”
You swallow thickly, finding it damn near impossible to keep your eyes on his.
“‘s not like it matters,” you start. his brows furrow, but he stays silent. “No one would want me anyways.”
“‘n why would you say that?”
Frustration burns the back of your throat. Isn’t it obvious? You can barely call him in a dire situation without thinking the worst of yourself. How can he think of you as anything but a nuisance? How could he think anyone else would put up with it?
“You wouldn’t understand,” you say, defeated. You crumble back into the couch.
“Make me understand.”
Heat flashes at the nape of your neck. He takes your hands in his, cradling them in his warmth. Your name sounds so soft in his voice.
“How aren’t you tired of me?” comes your whispered question, nose tingling and eyes threatening to water. You look at him. Hesitant. Scared.
The silence is loud. His own frown deepens. It takes a few painful minutes, but you see the moment something clicks in place.
“You know I’d do anything for you, yeah?”
Your lip quivers, sniffling as you beg yourself not to cry.
“Because you do the same for me,” he continues. You doubt it, mind going blank of every time he’s come to you for something.
His touch moves to your elbow, tugging you forward gently until he can arrange you in his lap. He slips his hands beneath the hem of his shirt, thumbs rubbing on your hips just above the waistband of his boxers.
You slowly brace your hands on his shoulders. Firm and broad and safe.
“You apologize so much. You worry so much.” the tears slip down your cheeks, throat aching, but now you can’t look away from him. One hand moves to cup the nape of your neck, thumb rubbing gently at the skin behind your ear.
“You’re allowed to ask for help.”
You shake your head, a no caught in your throat, tears blurring your vision.
“Oh, love.” He cradles you into the curve of his neck, arm wrapping around your waist and keeping a gentle hold at the base of your skull. “You have me wrapped around your finger ‘n you don’t even know it.”
He lets you cry into his neck, dampening the collar of his shirt. His cologne is soothing and you eventually slump against him. You’re so tired.
His lips graze your temple, his soft touch lulling you to sleep. You’ll talk about it tomorrow, but for now you want to stay wrapped up in his arms, held by someone who genuinely loves you.

don't, she's mine
simon ghost riley x reader x johnny soap mactavish | love triangle, angst, fluff, swearing, mentions of blood/stitches | 2.2k
“Si, please don’t do this” You begged, tears daring to drip out with another blink. You slipped your hand into his, pulling on him to try and get him to come back to your naked form, into your bed.
“Y/N, we can’t. It’s not appropriate, I’m your Lieutenant. This has gone on long enough.” Simon stated coldly. He refused to make eye contact with you, the mask already back on. You can tell he’s trying to put on a brave front, to keep his resolve. You know him well enough at this point to pick up on these things, yet it breaks your heart that it has come to this. That he’s treating you like you’re nothing special so suddenly.
“Please. Please, Simon. Don’t leave me now”, a sob wrecking your throat. He turns his head at the sound, his chest throbs, but still he declines to meet your eyes. Simon gives you a soft squeeze of your hand, brings it up to his mask as if to kiss it lightly- then walks out.
You’re left alone, as the dawn breaks through your curtains, naked, lonely, cold, abandoned. How could he just leave? After all these months, after all this time of getting to know one another, making each other laugh, fixing up each other's wounds and sharing beds together… He could just leave?
Sure, he was hesitant at first about initiating anything between a Corporal and her superior, but he never let that stop him, did he?
Not when he was holding your hand, leading you to his bed, his head between your thighs, making you cum on his tongue for the 3rd time that night.
Not when he would corner you into the nearest bathroom, taking you from behind, covering your mouth so no one could hear your sounds.
Not when he would moan into your kiss, holding your body close to his, murmuring “I love you”s.
And not when he finally bared his face to you for the first time. The emotions, the love and the trust you could both feel between you. You felt bonded and you fell in love with each other. Rank aside, you were his and he was yours, you wouldn’t trade your Simon for anything.
But now, it feels one-sided, broken, left to die. You’re embarrassed, disheartened, a thousand emotions from hate to adamant adoration for the man run through your head.
You can’t help the tears that pour, your tense clutch on the pillow and your sobs sing you back to sleep.
/
Two months later…
It’s been uncomfortable to say the least.
Although you’ve been able to avoid Simon’s presence for the last couple of weeks, you’ll still see him occasionally for training exercises, group meetings and when he wanders into the infirmary when he injures himself. Still, he never talks to you, meets your eyes, never tries to engage. All doors firmly shut on you it seems.
His cold front put you off from any attempts to talk with him, and frankly, you were far too hurt to utter a word for fear you may split at the seams before him and fall apart.
So, it was back to business at usual, pretending nothing ever happened, no one was none the wiser. You included, with the way Simon treated you. Might as well have never been.
You got word today that a soldier was called off training due to a pretty nasty cut and that he would be arriving shortly. Your breath always hitched when you never got the name, always anticipating it to be him. Yet you could never decide if it was out of hopefulness or dreadfulness.
However your efforts were in vain when Soap, good ol’ Johnny, strolled into your station.
“Back again, are you?” You smiled at the poor man, rolling your eyes.
“Aye, lass. Back just for your company.” He winked, his one hand clutching his opposite arm. You could see the blood leaking from the makeshift towel bandage.
“Alright, alright, come in. Sit down, get comfy. I’m afraid this may hurt.” You grabbed your tools and a stool, getting to work on your friend.
You and Johnny have always been close, he’s been sweet to you when others were short and demanding. Especially in the beginning when this position was quite overwhelming. But he was there to calm you down, talk, unwind. Even when he got injured like today, he’d come straight to you. Now, you were the only one he trusted to patch him up, his trusted Y/N.
“So, what happened this time?” You inquired, slipping your gloves on and exposing his deep cut to the brisk air. He winced a little, discarding the bloody towel to the floor.
“Ah, you know, bonnie- I’m a little too cocky.” Johnny laughed slightly. “Thought I could dodge the recruit in time. Fucker got the best of me.” You gasped in reply.
“A recruit, Soap? Oh, how old and slow you’ve become!” You jokingly exclaimed, he rolled his eyes but chuckled along.
“Alright now, listen. It was two! What was a man to do? Say no to a challenge?” Johnny lifts his arms all fed up and you have to push him down.
“Hey, I’m starting your stitches now!” You laugh, holding him still.
“Sorry, sorry. Can’t have the wee pretty nurse laughin’ while she’s tryin’ to stitch me up, might end up lookin’ like broken railroad tracks.” Johnny looks down at you, seemingly to test the waters.
You glance up at him, a small blush creeping onto your cheeks. You can’t lie, it feels nice to have some attention after feeling like discarded garbage for so long. But you try not to let it get you thinking about that, about feelings, about him. You try to play it off.
“I’ll have you know I’ve got very steady hands, I’m quite the artist.” He smiles as best he can, while he braces himself for the needle.
“You good?” You ask. Johnny nods back as you begin, using his spare hand to tuck a strand of hair behind your ear.
“Wanna hear a joke, lass?” A smile breaks out onto your face.
“Alright try me, Soap. But no promises about your stitches turning out pretty.”
“Well then-”...
Johnny tells you joke after joke, and you try your best not to laugh while stitching him up. But it keeps slipping out, the laughter, the joy, the compliments from him.
And Simon hears it all.
Walking by your station to get to Price’s office, he stops just before the doorway as to hear you. Your laughter, your voice, Johnny’s adoration… He lets himself peer inside briefly, only to see Johnny touching you, you stitching him up like you used to him, and your gorgeous, smiling face.
It makes him feel sick, wrecked with jealousy and you don’t miss his form as he storms by your doorway.
/
After Johnny was stitched up and good to go, your stomach hurting after all the laughter, he was free to go for the evening. He invited you out for celebratory drinks, but you declined. After some poking and with the knowledge the whole team was going, well- can’t really say no then.
You got changed into something presentable and headed out to meet everyone. You had some nurse friends you could keep close to, but when you arrived, Johnny made sure to capture your attention. From a game of darts to more jokes, buying you drinks as a thank you, he was there.
Johnny pulled you aside to an empty table after he noticed your enthusiasm dying down. He placed his hand onto your thigh, reassuringly.
“Hey, you need another drink?” You quickly shook your head.
“No, I’m okay. One is enough. Thank you though.” He hesitated before prying further, taking a look around the room. A small smile creeped onto his face.
“Want to dance?” Johnny asked, an eyebrow raised. You immediately scoffed and he took note of that.
“What’s wrong with a little bit of fun, bonnie? Come on.” He grabbed your hands, dragging you to the dance floor. You could only go along and try to make the best of it. He’s sure trying, but all you could think about was Simon. You appreciated Johnny’s efforts to make you feel better, but you know who you really wanted during times like this. But the Scotsman took you out of your thoughts all too quickly.
“Watch this.” He whispers into your ear, bringing you in close. He places one hand on your hip and another in your hand. Immediately, twirling you around to the beat. You could only hang on and go along if you hoped to survive.
“Johnny!” You laugh, clinging to his hand and shoulder. He twirled and twirled you across the dance floor, everyone in the bar beginning to take note. Whistles and cheers were heard as you captivated the attention.
Except for Simon. Simon who has been watching this entire time from across the room, not a second did he let you leave his sight. Simon who looked on with gridded teeth.
It was only when the song ended and Johnny dipped you, bringing your face close to his, did he react.
Without a rational thought in his head, he moved across the bar to you two. Johnny and you were inches apart when you both caught a heated Simon rapidly approaching in your sights.
“Si…” You whispered instinctively. It was only now that Simon realized he was in front of you. The crowd silenced and slowly began to dissipate as you three stood still, gawping at each other. Johnny was the first to break the silence.
“Well, well, well, Lieutenant. Do I have some competition here? Or-”
“Don’t, McTavish.” Simon boomed, and it was like a shot to the heart. Oh, how you longed to hear his deep, intoxicating voice again.
Johnny pulled you up back into his arms and kept you there until Simon removed you from his grip, his hand in yours. Simon gave the Scot a menacing stare until Johnny put his hands up in surrender.
“Alright, LT. Alright.” Johnny backed off to rejoin his boys.
You looked up at Simon, his stare still on Johnny, insisting he stay gone.
“Simon…” You whispered, gripping his hand tighter. Praying he would never let go again.
“Come with me.” He whispered back, as he led you outside the bar for some privacy, his hand still in yours.
You two stood in the brisk, night air, facing each other but still he never granted you his eyes. It was all you had with the balaclava on.
“Please, talk to me.” Your heart was aching, begging for any kind of balm he could provide. To finally have him this close again after long nights of crying alone, you need this. You need him. And if it's closure, so be it. But something.
Instead he let out a laugh. A genuine laugh.
Your face dropped and utter confusion engulfed you.
“He did it all on purpose.” Simon looked up at you, stroking your interlocked hands with his thumb. You could tell he was smiling sheepishly through the mask.
“Wha-?”
“Johnny. He did this all on purpose to get me to speak to you.” A huff of air came through his nose. “And it bloody well worked.”
Realization hit you, and you let out a little laugh yourself. But you quickly fell into your thoughts.
“Wait, he knew about us?” You asked, holding eye contact with Simon, his gorgeous, gorgeous eyes.
“He figured it out. Said ‘I’ve been acting more broody than normal’”. You smiled briefly, before your moment of happiness turned into desperation and longing for the man before you. How you’ve missed him, craved and ached for him.
“Why did you ignore me?” You couldn’t help the tears that began to build up again. As they slipped down your cheeks, Simon moved his hands around your face, cupping your cheeks and wiping them away.
“I thought it would be easier this way.” You quickly shook your head and he steadied you by placing his forehead on yours.
“Please forgive me. I’ve made a fool out of myself. I thought it would be easier not to meddle our personal lives and professional. But it’s not, it’s harder than anything I’ve ever put myself through.” He tilted his head back to remove his mask, baring himself to you once again. Simon wanted to prove his sincerity to you, his love for you. Your hands flew up to his exposed face, your Simon, the man you loved. Finally able to feel his skin on yours again, refusing to take your gaze away in case he disappeared once more.
“I’m sorry, lovie. If you give me another chance, I won’t mess it up. I know I don’ deserve you, but hell, I’d like to try.” He gave you a small smile and tried his best to push back the tears that threatened to erupt. You nodded frantically.
Simon closed the gap and your lips met. He moaned into the kiss and his hands gripped your waist, keeping you in place close to his body. Your arms wrapped around his neck, deepening it, getting as close to him as you possibly could.
You stopped briefly to breathe, and you laughed through the tears still falling down your cheeks.
“What?” He asked, smile still present on his face.
“So you were jealous?” You bit your lip.
“Shut up”, Simon chuckled as he brought you into another kiss.

━━━━━━━━━ ⟡ ━━━━━━━━━
It’s the same place as the last time you saw him. Ironic, maybe. You still smoke the same cigarettes he offered to you once in a promise it would help you calm down from your anxiety; it did. It did a little too much. You still wear that same necklace you refused to get rid off even after you dumped him, after you promised you’d never see him again, never talk to him again. God, hope he doesn’t get mad at that.
Truth is you’ve been failing at that for quite some time. You’ve been seeing him way more than it’s necessary, but contrary to how things used to be before, now every moment with him is a single time that ceases to exist once you get home. He texts; you ignore. He doesn’t text anymore till the next time he misses you. You ignore it till the next time you miss him. This time isn’t much different, only you have a bit more of a reason to be here, unsure if he’ll show up, smoking this damned red Marlboro and feeling like shit. Like absolute shit.
You exhale the smoke, your hair tied back in a ponytail through the cap gap. Hiding yourself.
His big broad figure fills the door in, and he comes inside. To your big surprise, he decided lastly to come; Simon looks at you with a bitter look on his face, his dirty blonde hair trimmed, his beard done, wearing one of his thousand black tight t-shirts and a pair of jeans. He looks the same as ever.
“You came.” You say, surprised as he pulls the chair back and takes the seat in front of yours.
“You called.” He replies simply, his body relaxing spaciously in the chair with his arms crossed over his chest.
“Yeah, I did.” You let out some more smoke before discarding your cigarette on the ashtray. “But I thought you were still mad at me.”
He looks at you in silence for a couple seconds, and scoffs.
“And that never stopped you from calling, did it?” He snorts impatiently. “Did something actually happen or are you just lonely and needing someone to help you fall asleep?” You feel derision in his attitude and his voice is dripping with venom and bitterness.
You close your eyes. Can’t blame him, can you? You had your own good reasons to break up with him, although stupidly, without thinking twice - without thinking that you’d end up missing him. Trying to find him in all the wrong places, wrong guys.
“Well go on, Simon, what else do you still have to tell me?” You mimic him, crossing your arms and your face a little twisted in irritation facing him. “I was single, I still am. I had the right to be with someone else.”
“I never blamed you for that. I never fucking blamed you.” Simon wipes his mouth with his hand, his ever icy expression breaking into frustration the second you open your mouth again.
“You are blaming me. You-”
“I fucking am not. I’m angry at the poor fucking choice you did. Getting rid of me for that fucker? You’re making a joke out of yourself, even for someone like me that’s fucking downgrading.” He snaps, regretting it the second later and squeezing his eyes for a moment.
You remain silent. He’s right. He’s absolutely right.
You stare into the distance of the window by your side, silent - embarrassed, regretful. Your hands together over your lap and your silence put together make him raise his head at you once again, in a sigh.
“I shouldn’t be here. Our conversations won’t ever end in anything good but me taking you to bed, if that’s what you want then I’ll gladly do it without all the trouble.” He states. You tremulously raise your eyebrows and your lips curl in a small hurt smile.
Ouch.
You know he said it to hurt you. You know he’s angry, he’s hitting all the right buttons to get under your skin, he can’t help it. He can’t help but to be a bastard sometimes, he never learnt different.
Your eye stare down your own hands, you feel your lips tremble and the lump in your throat gets bigger each second. It's hard to hold back the tears, but for your dignity, you try. There's no less brutal way to admit something like that, so you vomit the words all at once.
“He hit me, Simon.”
His eyes open, the pupils slowly dilate like those of a shark that has just tasted blood for the first time.
Simon has blood on his hands. From too many people, more than you could count. And even if that's his job, never in all those hard years with him - you swore - had you ever seen him so pissed off.
The veins in his temples stood out and he swallowed bitterly, his mind empty; If he wasn't an extremely restrained man, then he would have gotten up and taken action right now. A thoughtless attitude that he might later regret - maybe.
“Tell me his address.” He snaps, his blood boiling enough for you to almost feel the heat increasing in his flesh.
“Simon, no.” You immediately cut him off, shaking your head, almost crying at this point. "That's not what I called you for, I don't want you to hurt anyone. I broke up with him, I don't have anything to do with that son of a bitch anymore, I just-"
He interrupts you with a gesture and claps his hands to his face. He brushes his own skin roughly, as a self-reminder that if he gives in to his own anger, he'll let you down.
When he makes room for his eyes through his hands again and sees your reddened
face, tears streaming down your cheeks - he dies inside.
He promised he’d always be there for you. He promised he’d never let you down, he’d always protect you, he’d kill for you. He said it plenty of times and you were completely aware that it was true.
He couldn’t possibly let you down.
“No, please, I can’t- I just can’t when you cry.” He mutters, getting up from his seat and offering his hand. “You come with me. Please?”
━ ⟡ ━
The hot steaming water falls over your head, sweeping your tears as you hug your legs. Simon's fingertips brush calmly your back, he contours the bruises on your lower half like he's grieving. The silence fills in the bathroom if not for the sound of water dripping on your head. He pours some water on your back to soothe your pain - even if you're not feeling any at this point.
"Why did you not call me before?" He asks, with painful confusion in his raspy voice. His hands are shaking and you know it's pure anger and his own incapability of holding himself back when it comes to feeling anger. You sigh, tired.
"I don't know. I felt like I'd be unfair to you." You try to explain, your hands caressing your shins while the water runs through your skin. "And because I didn't want to get you in this state."
His eyes narrow as he stares at you, and you shrug in response. It's clear to him why you don't like to get him stressed - he could never hurt you, but he was a danger to others.
He waves his hands to shake off the water and stands up, grabbing and opening a clean towel for you.
You stand up, your eyes don't dare leaving his. He silently admires you, although his mind can't think much more than how guilty he feels for letting this happen to you - even though there was nothing he could do about it. You dry your feets on the mat and turn your back so he can wrap you in the towel, and he does so.
Simon calmly brushes the towel against your shoulders, drying a bit of the water that drips from your whole body and once he’s done wrapping you in the towel, he places his hands on your back and leads you to his room.
His smell is everywhere around and what used to be intoxicating and lustful for you, is now soothing and quiet. You sit on the edge of his bed, silence seeming to be now a whole conversation between the two of you.
Your hand reaches for his and places it on your cheek. You look up at him with kitty eyes, your thumb circles the skin on the back of his hand till it finds the scar you were looking for – one of his oldest ones, according to himself. You close your eyes and snuggle into his hand, giving it a light, calming kiss.
He caresses your cheek and moves your hair from your face.
“I’ll get you some fresh clothes.” He says in a whisper. You nod, and he comes back moments later with a clean shirt of his. You tug it in your neck and quickly put it on letting the fabric run free on your body, loose.
He starts removing rubbish from his bedside table – an ashtray, an empty can of energy drink, a gun. As you notice he seems to be trying to empty the room for you, you speak out.
"Wait, where are you going?"
"I'll be in the living room if you need me for anything." He says simply. Before he can leave the room, you stop him by wrapping your hand on his arm. The sudden motion makes him turn around to face you, his dark eyes gazing at yours and seeming already aware of what comes next – a protest.
"Simon." You use a warning tone, and he closes his eyes.
"You don't want to have me around now, kitten. I'm far from calm…" He argues, calmly looking down at you now. The proximity burns you, he's too close.
"I'm not scared." You mewl, your hands on his tough chest, he doesn't move a muscle. Your hands start trailing up to his neck, and you get on your tiptoes to wrap your arms better around him; Simon closes his eyes, drunk by the overwhelming feeling of having you so close to him. He misses you.
One of his hands holds your wrist before you manage to curl up on his neck, and the other one gently holds on your waist. He bends down enough so he can reach your tiny self. He gives you what you want - his lips slowly catch yours in a slow, calm kiss; the warmth of his lips against yours is medicine to you – soothes all of your pain, eases all of your anxiety. He squeezes on your waist and pulls back once he starts feeling heaty and his breath starts to become uncontrolled, needy. He breaths against your lips, his eyes barely closed and his breath catching on his throat like panting.
You stare at his lips before going back to his eyes.
"Stop." He snarls, raising his head a bit, avoiding your face and the closeness you impose on him now. It feels wrong. You need space.
You close your eyes, you understand. It feels wrong.
After all of this time of failed attempts to let go, to sound nonchalant and be away from each other – after all the fails and the sex, devoid of feeling type of sex, rough, delicious but raw sex, he wants to fuck you straight. He doesn't want to be angry, he wants to take you and make love to you.
You understand. Feels wrong.
"Will you be fine here? You need to rest and I need to take a walk, clear my head." He mutters, avoiding your eyes for the sake of restraining himself. You nod.
"I'll be alright. You'll come back, right?" You ask, looking at him - looking for his eyes. He stands back from you and nods.
"Of course." He assures you, before caressing your hair slowly and giving you a calm kiss on the forehead. "Rest. Do not stay awake waiting for me, hear me?" He snarls, grabbing his keys and a hoodie of his, tucking it in and giving you space.
You sit in his bed and nods, watching him leave by the room door and close it behind himself. Now alone, you close your eyes exhausted by the lack of sleep you've been having for these past few days; it doesn't take you long to fall asleep, surrounded by comfortable pillows that smell like his perfume – woody and whiskey.
Walking in the streets, with his hands digging in his hoodie's pocket and tough stomps, Simon's face lit up by the light emanating from the street lamps. His body swings slightly to the weight of his steps, and he breathes heavily.
After several minutes – more than he probably told you he'd take, he stops in front of a very familiar residence. You should know it wouldn't be any trouble for him to find your abuser's house.
He took a familiar piece of cloth out of his pocket, it had been time since he last wore it. Now seemed like a good moment. A balaclava, full face mask – handmade, with a skull painted on. Simon hugs you and kisses your scars; Ghost wants revenge.

You wake to a throbbing in your head, your hand reaches over to the other side of the bed. It’s empty you sit up looking over at the floor. Where is she? You walk out the room looking at the light coming into the apartment, its past noon at least. You hear voices in the kitchen, but you head into the bathroom opening the cupboard looking for painkillers, you accidentally drop a bottle of something off the shelf making you jump, bending down to pick it up you hear movement in the doorway.
“You okay?” Simon asks, you look up at him in the doorway.
“Yeah I’m fine just looking for some paracetamol.” You say getting up.
“It’s in the kitchen,” Simon says coming in the room. You close the cupboard stopping at the mirror.
“How’s it look?” You ask him as he takes your arms in his hands.
“Not bad.” He says, you smile turning your head to look in the mirror, the side of your head is swollen but the bruising doesn't look to bad, you must have not been hit hard they were drunk.
“Where’s Chloe?” You ask as you start to leave the room.
“She woke early insisted on being driven to her place.” Simon says.
“Why didn’t you wake me?” You ask frustrated letting Simon lead you to the master bedroom.
“Go lie down I’ll get you the painkillers.” He says kissing your cheek and gently pushing you into the room. You turn to watch him walk away. There must be someone visiting, you can still hear Johnny talking in a hushed voice. You’re trying to look as Simon comes back with a glass of water and two pills in his hand. You take the glass from him trying to crane your head to listen as he pushes you into the room.
“Is there someone here?” You as sitting on the bed.
“Price came round for coffee.” He says. You throw the pills back gulping down some water, handing the glass back to him.
“Want me to come say hi?” You say, although the thought of interacting with anyone right now seemed like too much effort. He smiles bending down to kiss your forehead.
“I’ll tell him you say hi.” He says, you nod getting yourself into bed. As you pull the duvet over you you look over on the bedside table. There was a framed picture of Johnny and Simon, looks like they’re at a party or something, maybe just out at the pub, they’re both looking at each other, Johnny’s arms wrapped round Simon’s arm pulling him close. They’re both smiling at each other. You smile and close you’re eyes, letting the painkillers do their job.

You wake to Johnny by your side, the throbbing in your head dulled. You move closer to him which stirs him awake as he pulls you onto his chest.
“Hey, you okay?” He asks sleepily, almost like it’s an automatic response.
“I’m so sick of people asking that.” You say puling yourself up to his face. You kiss him, you’ve missed his touch and Simon, where is he? You can’t feel him behind you.
“Where’s Simon?” You ask.
“Work,” Johnny says stroking your hair out your face. His fingers stopping round the bump, he doesn't touch it instead his fingers finding their way back to your chin.
“What time is it?” You ask. He turns over reaching for his phone.
“Four, wanna order some pizza?” He asks looking back up at you. You smile, pizza does sound amazing.
“I could kill for a kebab.” You say giggling.
“Kebab sounds good, the work out after doesn’t.” He says pulling you to sit on top of him.
“We can just have lots of sex.” You say leaning down kissing him.
“Pizza sounds good too,” you say. “Whatever you want.” You stroke his face looking down at his sleepy blue eyes looking back at you. You kiss him again, deeper longer, playing with his tongue, his fingers digging into your waist. You pull away smiling.
“I’ll take a shower, you order food?” You say. He nods and you quickly kiss him one more time climbing off him heading into the bathroom.
——————————
You end up on the sofa with Johnny watching some cheesy chick-flick with a pizza each. Johnny screams at the film talking about how unrealistic it is. You laugh each time then cuddle on the sofa watching the sunset and the rain move in. When the door to the flat opens and Simon walks in he still has his mask on. Your breath catches in your throat as he walks down to the dining table putting his phone and keys down. Johnny mutters something under his breath before getting up to meet him. Simon’s eyes lock onto yours but he almost immediately looks away. You don’t know what to do.
“Need anything?” Johnny asks him as he picks up Simon’s phone and keys. Simon won’t meet his eye line either. He shakes his head heading to the bedroom. Johnny comes back over to the sofa putting Simon’s phone on the coffee table.
“Is he okay?” You ask. Johnny nods playing with his wedding ring. “Should we talk to him?”
“He might just need a few minutes, he’s had a long day.” Johnny says sighing. You decide to drop it, turning back to the TV, it’s raining outside now, feels like it could storm. Johnny doesn’t move, just sits there, starring out the window occasionally flicking his eyes back to the bedroom. You sigh suddenly distracted by the buzzing of your phone you pull it out. It’s work, they shouldn’t be calling you for another week at least. You get up to answer it going into the kitchen. You see Johnny turn to look at you, you turn away.
“You’re being stationed in Syria, you’ll be expected to report for duty at London Heathrow airport at oh-four-hundred on the 20th of July.” The voice said. You were too distracted by the fact you were being stationed overseas, the middle east, fucking Syria, that you almost missed the fact that the 20th is in 3 days.
“I still have two weeks of leave.” You protest quickly.
“It’s been postponed you’ll be getting an official letter within the next 48 hours or the next bushiness day.” You didn't know what to say, you have never been called up like this before, you’re an army nurse you sit on army bases doing health checks and vaccinations.
“I need to hear you acknowledge the message.” The voice says you’re almost not listening.
“Yeah, I acknowledge it.” You’re too stunned to speak, not even remotely professional. The woman says have a good day and you echo back the same. You turn to look at Johnny still on the sofa. His head moves to look at you as you make your way back to the sofa.
“You okay love?” Johnny asks. Shit, he already has to deal with Simon, you’ll tell them when he’s feeling better. You force a smile looking back out at the rain pelting down harder.
“Yeah, weather sucks.” You say sitting back down.
“Who was on the phone?” He asks, seemingly being able to read through your bullshit.
“Chloe, she was checking in.” You lie, he nods looking back at the TV. You scoot up next to him trying to relax against him. His hand leaves his wedding ring and he starts to rub your back.
——————————
An hour later Simon materialises from the bedroom, you see out the corner of your eye as the bathroom door closes. Johnny sits up and you move too leaving a gap for Simon to sit between you both. When he comes out the bathroom he pulls a shirt on walking towards the sofa. His hair is a mess he must have taken a nap. He walks over to the sofa leaning down and kissing Johnny on the head.
“Feeling better?” Johnny asks as Simon squeezes his shoulder. Simon just grunts in response bending down and burring his head in Johnny’s neck. Johnny whispers something too him quiet enough that you cant make it out with his head facing away from you. Simon stands back up coming over to you his hand cups your cheek bending down to plant a kiss on your lips.
“How’s you head?” He asks as he makes his way into the kitchen.
“Fine.” You respond looking over at Johnny he seems way more relaxed now, no longer playing with his wedding ring like a fidget toy, his arm laid over the back of the sofa. Simon comes over a glass of water in his hand and you move over so he can sit between you and Johnny. He puts the glass down and leans back. You lean into him and Johnny follows. He sighs his left arm resting on Johnny’s thigh, you pull your legs on the couch.
It’s nice leaning up against Simon with Johnny, you can hear his heart beating and Johnny’s breathing from across you. It’s perfect, and you hoped you would have two more weeks of this. You always thought about the fact that they could be called up at any time but not you, you always had a schedule, you always knew when you had to work. Your hand reaches over to Johnny to grip his hand, he looks back up at you smiling, then his expression changes as you look him in the eyes.
“What’s the matter love?” he asks sitting up, Simon follows turning to you for a second you’re confused then you blink and feel the tears run down your cheek. You open your mouth to speak but the words catch in your throat, it’s almost like you can’t breathe you swallow hard, but it just brings more tears. You throw yourself onto Simon’s chest as his arms wrap around you trying to hide the tears. You feel Johnny’s hand rub your back.
“Talk to us.” Johnny says as he brushes hair behind your ear. “Was it about the phone call with Chloe earlier?” You shake your head on Simon’s chest.
“Stupid,” you say between sobs. “It’s so stupid.” Simon’s hands grip your shoulders holding you up, his eyes look you up and down.
“It wasn’t Chloe, it was my deployment.” You say.
“That’s still 2 weeks away,” Johnny says pressing on the small of your back, letting out a sigh. You shake your head.
“Three days,” You shrug.
“Where?” Simon asks using his thumb to whipe your tears away.
“Syria” You reply. Simon brings your lips to his and kisses you deep, his arms move you into Johnny’s embrace, you lean up against him as Simon gets up picking his phone up off the coffee table.
“Si?” Johnny says quietly as you bury your head into Johnny’s chest his arms wrapping round you as you sniffle. You hear Simon kiss Johnny. Then Simon walking and the bedroom door closing again as Johnny’s strokes your hair, he moves his body so he’s laid flat on the sofa and you scoot up his chest. He kisses your forehead.
“Syria is nice, it’s warm at least, not like here.” He says, you look out the window it’s dark now but you can see the rain splashing on the window.
“I like the sun.” You say as you sniffle. He kisses your head, still stroking your hair. You close your eyes listening to his breathing as he tells you it’s all going to be okay. You want it to be okay, you want to believe him, overseas and it’s shortened your leave, they must be desperate, or maybe you’ve just been having too much luck.
——————————
The bedroom door slamming makes you jump Johnny pulls you further up on his chest. There is a blanket around you now.
“It’s okay, go back to sleep.” Johnny’s voice hums in your ear, his breath hot on your cheek as he pulls the blanket over your shoulders. You’re still tired you don’t remember falling asleep, your body is heavy, you should not be tired, you’ve slept so much since yesterday. The feeling of Johnny’s warm arms around you, rubbing your back, his gentle kisses on your head, it’s enough to lul you back towards sleep.
“How’d it go?” Johnny says quietly, you hear Simon sigh as he flops down on the recliner.
“Whoever sent the order is high up.” Simon says, Johnny shushes him. Simon tuts.
“So nothing we can do?” Johnny asks.
“‘Fraid not.” Simon says quieter.
“What about the reason for cutting her leave short?” Johnny asks as he kisses your head again.
“Staffing issues.” Simon says, Johnny scoffs. There are a few moments of silence and you’re about to dip back into sleep when Johnny speaks up again.
“Think it had anything to do with the party?” Simon doesn’t say anything.
“She’s going to a warzone.” Johnny says pulling you tighter.
“She’s a soldier Soap.” Simon says, there’s a hint of something in his voice, anger, annoyance, sadness.
“You know what I mean.” He says huffing. Simon sighs, Johnny’s fingers stroke your face hair being pushed behind your ears again.
“I fecking love her Si,” Johnny says as you feel his breath on your cheek. Your heart skips a beat, luckily you’re tired enough your body doesn’t betray you keeping still.
“I know Johnny, I do too.” He sounds sad, you don’t get chance to think about it though your body heavy, breathing shallow. Hopefully it’s all a dream and you’ll wake up tomorrow with two weeks left to spend with Johnny and Simon. You’re not counting on it though.

Part 1 | Previous, Next | Headcannons, Masterlist
"Is anybody on your training squad ready to be placed in a mission yet?" You sighed deeply, running your hands down your face. Shaking your head, you looked up at the man leading the operation. You didn't know his name, and quite honestly you didn't want to.
He looked away, thinking. "My last squad? Maybe there would've been one person strong enough for it, but this one? They didn't even know how to go about placing a tourniquet, let alone stitching someone up on the battlefield," you told him. You didn't want to be sitting here, busy with trying to make sure you didn't send any of your squad out too soon to be ready for the actual fight.
All you wanted was to be curled up in your nest, trying to figure out where the hell Simon had run off to this time. For the last two weeks Simon had seemingly disappeared, not even having lunch or dinner with you.
"Do you think that you're capable of going on this mission?"
"I'm not allowed on missions anymore, I thought?" You were appalled. Stunned. You hadn't ever thought of returning to the field, not since you'd become mated. "Aren't there a bunch of hoops to jump through if you wanted to have me return to the field?"
He shrugged. "I have enough of a reputation that I'd be more than capable of getting this through the hoops," he told you.
The next morning, as you were just about to take a sip of the coffee you had oh so carefully made, the door slammed open and made you jump, spilling it just between your legs. You stared at the coffee splattered on the floor before looking up.
Simon. You went to talk, opening your mouth to say something when he interrupted. "You're not going on that mission," your brows furrowed. Of all things he could've fucking said to you, for the first time in weeks, that's what he chose?
"I don't recall you having a say, considering you come and go in my life," you snapped at him. He looked almost taken aback at your words. "When you finally make a decision about whether you want to be in my life or not, then you'll get a say in these things," you told him.
He looked away, closing his eyes tightly before opening them and staring at you. "Last time I checked I was your Alpha,"
"Last time I checked an Alpha didn't abandon his Omega because he wasn't good at talking," you snapped, standing up. "Now, if you'd ever so kindly leave, I have work to do. If you come back, I'm expecting an apology, explanation or both," you pointed at the door.
Mouth agape, he stared at you, blinking rapidly. You pointed at the door again and he turned, not looking back as he walked out and shut the door softly.
You sat down, hands holding your head as you gave little gasps, trying to breathe through the panic you felt. Tears were dripping through from your eyes, throat burning.
Jesus fucking Christ, Simon Riley was going to be the death of you.
Being back in a plane was a little unsettling, even if you had gone through a quick two-week training session, to get you back up to speed, they said. They taught you basic combat skills, got you comfortable with simple weaponry. Made you a soldier, at least once again.
The bumping of bodies together because of how close everyone was. You could feel the weight of the gun you were holding and the packs you were holding, filled with medical supplies.
People were speaking loudly, some through their radios and some just between each other. You could see Soap and Price sitting just across from you, Price leaned in to listen to what Soap had been saying. Ghost and Gaz were on the other flight, with another squad who had another medic.
The flight shook, tremoring with the turbulence, shaking like you almost felt like you were. Your hands were grasping at the straps holding you in place, and you saw Price press into his radio to be heard on the team channel.
"Alpha Team, drop in 5, be ready," he spoke and you nodded at them, listening to a few others give their affirmatives. The plane shook, you could hear from inside the shots it was taking. Hopefully, it would remain intact enough to get you to the landing point and be okay to extract you if need be.
Alarms began blaring, people stood and moved, seeming to try and run away. You stood yourself, glancing over at Price and Soap to try and figure it out.
"We're jump-" Black. Everything was black and as you came to it felt like your body was on fire. Everything hurt and you could feel that sticky wetness covering parts of you. You moved your fingers and toes, trying to make sure nothing was wrong.
As you sat up, you looked around, feeling for your in-ear mic. It was there and you smacked at it a few times before it turned back on, albeit slightly staticky.
"-nyone there? I repeat, is anyone there?" Gaz?
"I'm here, we went down," you spoke, struggling to your feet as you looked around. "I'm going around to find any survivors or see if people are dead, send for extraction. I'll let you know the injured count," you tossed some rubble off of a person, feeling for a pulse.
Nothing. The next person was cut through the abdomen, their eyes glossy as they stared into the smoking sky. From what you could see on his uniform, he was just a boy.
The next person was blinking up at you, their leg sliced all the way through, nothing but flesh and blood splattering it. You slid on a tourniquet, giving the soldier a small smile and some reassurances.
You hadn't been out for too long, you'd realized. If that soldier was still alive, even with a lost limb, it had been seconds or minutes at most. You reached for you mic before hearing a voice.
"Sit still, I'm coming to give you backup," Ghost. You shook your head, crawling through more debris as you found Soap.
"You're going to want to bring as many people that know how to treat severe wounds," you told him. For what seemed like seconds, you worked to stitch up the major wounds on Soap, closing up an artery.
When you found Price, you became horrified. There was rubble covering him, his body limp, blood surrounding him. You moved to pull the rubble off of him, unable to do it because of the weight. Instead, you jumped to stitch up the wounds you could see, listening to the calls of Ghost and the others.
"Over here!" You shouted at them, waving your flashlight. When they were finally able to get there, you started ordering people around. "I need at least two people helping me search and fixing people up. Price is here, someone needs to get the rubble off of him," you watched as Ghost and Gaz pulled the rubble off, moving it away and you jumped in to tourniquet the wound.
With each stitch, you could feel yourself falling more and more into fear. His artery was almost severed, and you needed to spend more time on him. You looked up and found Ghost hovering over you.
"How far out is extraction?"
"Few minutes, maybe 10 max,"
"They need to get here faster, or there are going to be a lot of deaths," you told him, watching as he reached for an actual radio, talking into it and nodding. He'd ended up getting them to arrive not five minutes later, their speeds picking up with the knowledge that there were survivors.
As you boarded the flight with the worst of the wounded, which ended up being a young girl not too much younger than yourself, you watched Ghost fight his way on. He stood in the corner as you ordered the people around and trying to fix her up.
He watched, intently, as you moved in your natural habitat. He could see the blood pooling down the back of your head, as much as you tried to ignore it.
When you moved too quick around a corner, you had to catch yourself to keep from passing out. Lightheaded, you stood trying to bring your vision back from tunneling. There was nothing short of panic in your body as you turned to say something, vision fully blacking out before you felt yourself falling.
Your head was throbbing when you came back to, the bright lights burning your eyes as you opened them. You could smell fear and stress all nearly fully coating the tobacco, leather and little hints of smoke from the last mission. You lifted your head as much as you could, glancing over to where the scent was strongest.
"Are you finally back to deciding I'm worth being in your life?" You whispered, voice hoarse from all the screaming. You could hear Simon sigh heavily, a groan coming from his throat.
"Can we please do this another time? You nearly died," he whispered the last part, moving closer to you. You shook your head vigorously, trying to bite your tongue to keep from snapping at him.
You looked at him. "I've told you already. I can't do this up and down with you, this back and forth. It's ruining me," you whispered, feeling your eyes watering. He shook his head, cupping his face in his hands. "Either you figure out how to talk to me, or we get rid of this," you watched as he rubbed his eyes, you could smell the distress and sadness overtaking his scent.
He looked up. "I don't know how to do anything but retreat," he whispered to you. Shaking your head, you looked up at the ceiling. Glancing at him shortly, you had to close your eyes.
"Then you need to leave until you can figure out what it is you want," you told him, hearing him stand and the door opening and shut. With him went his scent, the only thing you could smell was the distress and hurt.
You could feel the tears pouring down your cheeks, your knees bending in an attempt to curl in on yourself. It had felt like hours until your tears dried, your chest hurting and the little gasps you gave out slowly became hiccups. It slowly turned to little breaths, your eyes blinking slowly as you stared to the side.
It took about a week until you were released, the concussion having healed through the week, large bruises and scrapes were slowly healing, a few stitches scattered on your body. You found yourself in your room, the area feeling too clean for your opinion.
The nest had lost its scent, leaving you to re-make it with materials that were better scented.
You took out the one last hoodie of Simons.
The not knowing was what hurt the most. Not knowing if Simon was going to keep you as his mate, not knowing if he was going to try and help himself and help you.
With a deep breath, you started a bath. Your thoughts would be the end of you, and you needed to take some time to just not think. Maybe have an orgasm or two, by your own hands this time.
Simon left. He just completely left the compound when you had made your comments to him, still lying on that bed and slightly bloody. Hair a mess, mud (or blood) splattering it. He put in his leave request the minute he left your hospital room and then booking a flight home.
Home. What a strange concept. Was home just a building, the place you laid your head down to rest at night? Was is the place that you went to when you had nowhere else to go?
Was it a person?
Simon didn't know. He didn't want to know, to be completely honest, and all he could do was run. Just like he always did. Either way, Simon needed a minute to think about everything that happened. Everything he did, everything you did and the things that were caught in his mind.
He hadn't even told Price he left, not yet at least. Not to his face. Sure, he left the note, but Price had been off doing things when he went there.
There was nothing that was good when he got into his apartment. The area smelled stalely of him, and he felt this weird sense of longing lodge into his chest. He wasn't entirely sure what it was, he had never felt something like that, at least not for a long time.
Little whines escaped from his chest, and all he could think about was the scent that was missing. The voice that was missing, the person who was missing.
You. You were missing, his little Omega who was oh so good when he had you. Who was oh so patient with him, the little Omega who gave him love. He didn't want anything short of you, even a little pup or two. Make yourself a pack, create a life with you.
And the only thing Simon could think about was getting back to you. It eventually turned into trying to think about how he would explain everything to you, how he would tell you everything. Give you an explanation, no matter the hoops he would have to jump through.
You deserved it.

Johnny's Halloween Costume
Johnny is proud of his Halloween costume. It seems like Ghost likes it too. cw: none. 2.2k, Ghoap smut
Credit for this story is owed to @pricegouge for fostering his ask with me. Now it’s time to give it back. Thanks for always being willing to help my brain worms wiggle! <33
"I want to be slutty for Halloween but nothing sounds good," Johnny huffs as he slams back onto Kyle's bed, ignoring the hey! as he disrupts a clean pile of clothes.
Kyle pulls the clothes out from under him to re-stack while grumbling, "Just be yourself, how much sluttier can you get?"
Freeing the last of the items he turns to sit at the desk, looking at Johnny in exasperation as he recounts all of the options he's thought about and discarded.
"—bunny but everyone has done that. Same with a gladiator," he whines while staring at the ceiling, pouting. "It needs to be something good, something that will drop jaws."
Kyle rolls his eyes at Johnny's dramatics, "Be a hoochie daddy or something, I don't know. Just do it in your own room!" He blinks in surprise when Johnny shoots up to face him, a manic grin across his face. Nothing good ever came from this smile. it's Johnny's 'This is going to go badly but it'll be so much fun in the process' smile.
Kyle thought up the name himself.
"You're a genius, Gaz! I knew I came to the right person," Johnny beams at him, a toothy grin showing all the way to the molars. He bounces up, ignoring the deep sigh as he knocks the clothes over again and strides for the door, eager to get started now that he had a plan.
\\\
The spoon clinks against ceramic as Ghost stirs his tea in the small rec room, having fled from the festivities in the bigger hall after doing his mandatory 5 minute drop in.
He wouldn't have even done that much if the order didn't come straight from Price, I don't care if they're a bunch of numpties. Show up, foster camaraderie for a handful of minutes then you're free.
A handful of minutes. As far as Ghost is concerned that meant five. Three hundred seconds of torture before he was allowed to leave. He would do it but it certainly didn't mean he would like it.
He had escaped the second the hand ticked over and he had no intention of going back. He is going to drink his tea and then go to bed—leave all the idiots to get into trouble by themselves.
The door to the rec room burst open and Ghost is greeted with his own personal headache.
"LT! What are ye doin' hidin' away in here?"
"What are you wearing?" Simon ignores his question, dumbfounded at what he is seeing. Johnny prances into the room in an outfit which showed more skin than it covered.
His orange shorts rest high on his hips, the crotch obscenely tight causing his bulge to be highlighted by the taut fabric. The shorts end after a few brief inches showing miles of thickly muscled thighs covered in dark hair which end in combat boots. On his upper half he is wearing half a shirt, the fabric stopping right below his chest, showcasing his thickly muscled torso covered in a healthy layer of fat and coarse hair. Johnny beams as he looks at Ghost with a lightly stubbled face, his mohawk looking freshly trimmed.
"I've been lookin' everywhere for ye," he exclaims excitedly, hurrying over to crowd Ghost's space. "Well?" He spreads his arms, causing the shirt to strain against his biceps and wide shoulders. Ghost is pretty sure he hears a stitch pop, "What do ye think? I'm a Hooters boy!"
Ghost doesn't say anything, he can't say anything with his tongue feeling like it's two sizes too big in his mouth. If he were any less disciplined he would be swallowing in need right now. Thankfully, Johnny has no issue carrying the conversation.
"Ye should've seen the look on everyone's faces when I walked in. Looked like big mouthed bobble heads, the lot of them. It's like they'd never seen a man as beautiful as me before," he preens, striking a pose for the full affect of the outfit.
Ghost finds his breath shuddering on the exhale.
"You look like a whore, that's why they were staring at you," he finally managers with a deep rumble, staring at where the tight waist makes a gentle pooch right above it. He drags his eyes away to meet Johnny's gaze, thankful for the mask to help keep his expression level.
Johnny only laughs, seemingly pleased at being called a whore by his commanding officer. "Yer only sayin' that because ye want in my pants," he taunts, spinning around to show his ass off to Ghost before completing his spin.
Ghost abruptly makes a decision. Walking over he grips Johnny firmly by the nape of his neck, amused as Johnny instantly goes still and silent, eyes darkening at the pressure. "Let's go, pup. You're gonna get what you're begging for."
"What I—" Johnny chokes, trying to get words out, "LT, I was only joking—"
But Ghost doesn't listen, just turns them both to begin heading down the hall towards the barracks.
\\\
Pushing Johnny through the door first, Ghost directs him towards the bed, hand still placed firmly on the back of his neck, rough callouses scratching the thin skin. He might have unwittingly found Johnny's sweet spot because the sergeant was unusually quiet the whole walk.
He watches as Johnny sits down carefully, enjoying the uncertain hesitation of his movements. It was rare to see the younger man anything but cocky and self assured so this is a treat Ghost has every intention of savoring.
Moving over to the bed he pushes Johnny backwards, watching him collapse onto the bedding with slightly too fast breaths. Crawling over him with ease, he lifts his mask to right below his nose, rolling the fabric until it holds itself up. With no other warning he dives in for a kiss, immediately deepening it and pressing firmly into Johnny's mouth.
The other man moans at the first stroke of his tongue, slick and warm, before reaching up to grasp onto him tightly and kissing back with equal fervor.
Ghost took his time mapping out Johnny's mouth—tracing his teeth, stroking his tongue, tickling the sensitive gums, feeling the soft cheeks. He knows the sergeant is tough—he'd covered Ghost's ass enough times for that to be fact. But damn if he doesn't feel particularly soft in this moment. Ghost isn't sure if he wants to tuck Johnny up inside of himself where he could be kept, secure and warm, or if he wants to live inside Johnny's skin, always present, able to venerate this golden boy who is as warm as the sun.
Coaxing Johnny's tongue into his mouth is the work of moments. He's unable to help his filthy grind at the resulting vulgar groan when he begins suckling on it like a teat.
"Fuck, but you're a needy boy, aren't you?" Simon rasps as he pulls away slightly, panting into the space between their lips. He's pleased at the rapid agreement from the man below him, eager to continue. "I might just have to keep you. Tie you up to my bed, stuff a fake cock down your throat so you can't yell for help. Keep you wet and spread for me so I can slide right in after a day of dealing with idiots."
The choked, needy moan Johnny lets out as his eyes roll back is heaven. Ghost feels a wave of lust flood is veins and he knows right then and there he won't be letting this man go.
"You'd like that wouldn't you?" he continues, slowly rocking into Johnny. Short, soft, barely there thrusts that did more to tease than to relieve. "Being my little fuck pet to use as I see fit. Wouldn't need to worry that pretty little head about anything more than when your next orgasm will be."
Johnny shudders in arousal, little panting pleases dripping from his tongue. His eyes wide and soft.
Ghost smiles meanly, snaking a hand under his shirt to pinch at his nipples just because he can. Catching the resultant yelp in his mouth, he presses firmly against him, grinding his hard cock against Johnny's through layers of fabric, enjoying the dry rasp.
Pulling away from Johnny's chest once his nipples are swollen and puffy, he laughs mockingly as he notices the wet spot growing on Johnny's pants.
"Looks like someone's an eager little slut."
Scooting back to sit between his spread thighs, Ghost pulls down Johnny's shorts just enough to expose his cock and balls, cradling them with the bunched fabric. Johnny's cock slaps his stomach as it's freed with a meaty thwack, drooling thick drops of sticky precum onto his abdomen. Ghost reaches down to meanly pinch the ruddy tip, smiling at the resulting yelp before moving further down to play with his balls, rolling them in his palm and giving a firm squeeze intermittently.
"Look at this tiny cocklet. Cute little thing isn't it?" He says antagonistically, laughing callously as Johnny immediately flushes and begins arguing.
" 'S nae little! What are ye on about? Yer probably the one that's little. Go on then, let's have a look. Probably a wee pecker you have in there," he gestures at Ghost's pants, ignoring the tenting which made it clear there wasn't a wee anything about Ghost.
Smirking, Ghost pulls back to shuck his pants, sliding them halfway down his thighs and letting his cock springs out, pointing downward with the weight of itself. He can practically hear the swallow the Scotsman lets out in response.
"Well," Johnny croaks, flushing scarlet red, "that's why you think it's small, isn't it?Ye've got a fuckin' horse cock 'tween yer legs!" He gathers himself valiantly, "donnae mean mine is small, now ye take that back."
Still smiling meanly Ghost responds with a flat, bored, no, before leaning forward, wrapping a sizable hand around both their cocks, his fingers unable to meet due to the thickness between the two of them.
Setting a fast pace right out the gate, he delights in Johnny's wide-eyed gasp, mouth falling into an oh! of pleasure. He promptly makes it a objective to draw that sound out as many times as possible.
A handful of dry, rasping strokes follow before he lets go, ignoring Johnny's whine of pleading disappointment to reach up and grasp his mohawk, pulling him up and forward to hunch over. "Spit," he directs, aiming Johnny's face at their laps.
He hasn't ever seen Johnny so eager before, with how he spits on their cocks before tilting his chin up for a kiss like a dog asking for a reward.
Ghost laughs but can't help leaning down for another kiss, giving him what he's asking for so prettily. Pulling back he pushes Johnny's forehead causing him to fall backwards once more before wrapping his hand back around their cocks, smearing the wetness with a nasty twist before resuming stroking.
The wet glide is significantly better.
Johnny's back arches almost instantly, a loud, low moan falling from his open mouth. He reaches for Ghost—desperate, grasping hands that hold on tightly once they find purchase, reluctant to let go.
Ghost takes great joy in wringing every sound possible from his mouth, every twist, stroke and squeeze done with the sole purpose of finding every soft spot the other man has so he can exploit them ruthlessly.
"Christ, you're whining like a whore."
And he is. Johnny has tears gathering on his lash line, high-pitched uh uh uhs escaping with every stroke.
Ghost watches in awe, biting his cheek to give him something to focus on so he doesn't finish too quickly. Johnny is a vision spread out below him. Sweat dotting his face, mixing with the tears and drool he couldn't keep contained, a blissed out look in his eyes as he watches Ghost back, keeping their gaze locked.
That is the last straw for Ghost.
He focuses intolerably on the areas Johnny moaned the loudest for, touching him with intent. The younger man isn't able to hold back anymore and he comes with a long cry, audible to anyone passing by the room.
A final tug is all Ghost needs before he's finishing too, cum wetting the thick hair of Johnny's torso and pooling in the divot of his belly button.
As they pant in the aftermath, Johnny looks at him with something close to worship in his eyes before it's shrouded once more, pressed deep in an effort to hide and protect the feeling.
Ghost leans forward to give one final messy, wet kiss before backing away to fix his pants. He smacks Johnny's hands away when he reaches for the corner of the bedding with a harsh, leave it, pup, before pulling the orange Hooter shorts back up over Johnny's waist, tucking his slowly softening cock gently to the side.
Standing, he ushers Johnny to the door, opening it and gesturing him out without looking to see if anyone is around. Johnny's breath is still slightly too fast to be normal as he passes. With a firm pat on his ass, Ghost watches him walk down the hallway, still covered in sticky spend for anyone passing to see.
He'll have to come up with a more permanent way to mark him in the future and his mind is already whirring with possibilities.

what's a noise to an eardrum? — python³
― ― ― ―
synopsis you've been on a mission for a while, and instead of going back to your quarters after coming back, you head to ghost's.
relationships platonic!ghost & gn!reader.
characters simon "ghost" riley.
word count 2.2k
warnings ghost's pov, 2nd person pov [you/your/yourself], sleep deprivation, bad cliches, bad writing, might be ooc
note hey gang!!! i think i got all the warnings since this is pretty lighthearted considering what i usually post, so enjoy :) lmk your thoughts!
Ghost was sitting at his desk―in his own sleeping quarters, since it’s technically past curfew and he doesn’t need any trouble from recruits about him being in his office after hours, the annoying little shits―typing away at his computer, trying to get a report on his latest assignment done before going to bed.
He’s had a little bit of trouble sleeping lately. Not to say that it’s your fault, but it’s definitely your fault. He doesn’t necessarily need you around to go to sleep, but since you volunteered for a mission a week ago, he’s been a little on edge. Originally, it would’ve been Soap and a few other sergeants heading out to a small town in some country down in Central America, but you took the place of Soap after Price had explained the mission.
It could technically be done by one person, he’d said in short, but it’s quicker to send out a squadron than a single soldier.
You weren’t the best sniper they had, but you had enough experience with it for Price to approve of you going with one other person to keep watch of you. The long duration of the mission was really to be blamed on how often your target had been moving, leaving you with little room to take any shots. It wasn’t too important of a mission, however―as long as you didn’t miss your target in the end―so Ghost is sure Price is glad that he only had to send out one soldier instead of around six or seven.
Still, despite how there was little to no chance of you coming out of this mission in multiple pieces, Ghost found himself worried; something he, admittedly, feels for a lot of the soldiers here. His worry for you is different, though. Maybe it’s an age thing. Maybe it has something to do with how he’s seen you grow over the years that you’ve been here, and how close you’ve gotten to going from a Private to a Lance Corporal. It’s a relatively low rank for someone in the 141, which only makes him―dare he admit it―prouder. A weird feeling lingers in his mind when the word proud comes to mind as he thinks of you, but he ignores that feeling, instead opting to focus on the report he so desperately wanted to finish.
Despite his usual sleep aversion, he finds himself wanting to sleep for once.
Just as he gets to the middle of his report, he hears a knock at the door. Before Ghost can even say anything, he hears the door open, and his head whips around to see who would decide that it’s a good idea to enter his room without his permission. Though, all of his confusion and building anger dissipates the moment he sees that it’s you. Fresh from medical, he can safely assume, seeing the various bandages and bruises on you, and that odd too-clean smell that’s sticking to you. You look so exhausted, it’s almost funny. Almost.
You close the door behind you and Ghost turns his head back to his laptop. It’s not that he doesn’t want to look at you, but it’s a little harder to when you look so disheveled. He hears a few footsteps, then the squeaking of bed springs, and a sigh before the rustling of bed sheets. In the faint reflection of his computer screen, Ghost can just barely see you getting comfortable under the covers of his bed, seeming to fully disregard his presence. He doesn’t mind, though. He gets it; that feeling after being on guard for so long, not sure how much of it you can let down even though you’re back on base, and that strange structureless feeling where you wish you had bones but only feel like flesh.
It’s odd, put simply. When Ghost thinks of the feeling, he thinks of the age-old question, if a tree falls in a forest and nobody is around to hear it, does it make a sound? The feeling is like a constant questioning of what you’re experiencing, the wonderance of whether or not you can feel safe if the safest you’ve ever felt is a feeling lost somewhere beyond you. If you lose a feeling, was it ever felt? If you lost safety, were you ever safe, or, as Maslow would put it, were you always missing that basic need? Ghost knows plenty about missing safety. He knows that his mind blanks when he tries to think about the last time he felt safe before the 141.
He knows that you know plenty about missing safety, too. Not a lot, because you never say enough to clue him in on just how much you’re missing, but he has his suspicions. Some are confirmed, others mere theories, but still―he knows you well enough. That’s why you’re in his room, not saying a word, just breathing heavily into his pillow and trying to garner warmth from his blanket. He can see you staring at him from the bed. He’s sure you want him to say something, and because it’s you that’s looking at him, he does.
“Back already?” Ghost asks dryly, drawing a small huff out of you.
“Soap said y’missed me,” you reply, making Ghost scoff, “when he visited me in the infirmary.”
“Too big of a mouth on ‘im,” Ghost saves the draft of his report, deciding to just save writing it for another time, instead closing out of the program and hovering his finger over the power button on his keyboard, “don’t know how y’managed to understand him.”
You hum and sit up in Ghost’s bed, the blankets rustling again, and as Ghost’s screen goes black, he turns around to see you sitting up with the blankets wrapped around you like a jacket. He blinks at you, before raising an eyebrow at your position.
“Ruinin’ my blankets?” he asks, though sounding barely offended, “After walking in unannounced besides that little knock?”
“Ruin’s a pretty strong word,” you argue, “and it wasn’t a little knock. It was loud. Practically echoed off the walls.”
Ghost can sense your sarcasm from a mile away, but continues to play along, leaning back in his chair. You look a little more tired covered in blankets, he thinks, those dark circles under your eyes are a little more pronounced. He sees them a lot. Those darkened semi-circles that he used to think were just a part of you, some kind of skin condition, but later realized they were a product of your sleep deprivation. It would’ve been his first thought had he not always seen you with the bags under your eyes, but after going on leave with you―a few months ago, back to his small house, after you had admitted that you preferred staying with him to going back to your dingy apartment―and witnessing you getting proper rest, seeing those circles get a little lighter, he knew that it was more of a sleep issue.
He’s gone through his fair share of sleeping problems. He still goes through them; everyone in the military does, he’s sure. Ghost used to think that he took the brunt of it, compared to the rest of the task force, not because of the missions but because of what came before the missions. He’s changed his way of thinking since then, has opened up his mind a little more beyond the idea of suffering more than someone else in a specific sense, but he still had that feeling that he took on the majority of nightmares. The word “nightmare” feels a little juvenile for him, but until someone creates a better word for the repulsive things he sees after closing his eyes and just barely drifting asleep, that’s what he’s stuck with.
“You better hope y’didn’t wake anyone up with it, then,” Ghost hums, “I doubt anyone wants to be awake right now.”
He sees a small smile grow on your face and small spots of blood arise from beneath the cracked skin of your lips.
“Everyone here sleeps like a rock as far as I know,” you reply, before pausing, considering, “maybe except for the guys who came in a few weeks ago.”
“I’m sure they’ll be gone by next month,” Ghost tells you, his tone almost reassuring, “I don’t think they can handle any of… this.”
“You don’t think they can handle your bullying?” you scoff, making Ghost huff out a small laugh, “Weak.”
“Not everyone’s as strong as you, unfortunately,” Ghost hums sarcastically, getting up from his chair and walking the short distance over to his bed where you’re sitting. Automatically, you move so that Ghost can sit down next to you.
You’re both silent for a little bit. Ghost can see the few healing bruises on your face a little clearer here. Small dark yellows and reds on the sharper points of your face, the parts where the bone is a little closer to the skin, particularly your cheeks and a few over your jawline and near your chin. They’re a bad look on you, not because Ghost doesn’t think you can handle yourself, but because he knows that you can handle yourself, so the only way you could’ve gotten those bruises is if you were forced into a corner. He would consider that they were an accident, somehow self-inflicted, but he knows better than that.
“Are you tired?” Ghost asks, even though he knows the answer.
“I haven’t slept in a few days.” There it is.
“And for the few days that you did sleep?” He thinks he knows the answer to this too.
“I don’t know if you can really call it that.” Bingo.
It’s not surprising to him. Not only has he been on enough missions with you to know how hard it is for you to sleep outside of the base, but he’s managed to get you to actually tell him about your sleeping struggles. He knows. He watches you subtly kick off your boots, letting them fall over onto their sides, as if you could read his mind and know what he’s going to request next.
“Lay down,” Ghost puts a bare hand on your clothed shoulder and lightly pushes at it, prompting you to lean back onto your side, settling into the bed with the blankets still wrapped around you.
Ghost doesn’t mind the lack of blankets he’s getting. As long as you’re the one hogging them, he finds it easier to go without them, strangely enough. He lays down onto the bed next to you, his head naturally above yours, and neither of you bother to change positions. He doesn’t attempt to pull the blankets from you, and you don’t try to move away from him, the both of you simply existing together in one small space with nothing interrupting you two. A thin layer of air, similar to the blanket covering you, seems to cover the both of you, not trapping you together but instead comforting the both of you. The air feels woven from Ghost’s thoughts, yarn strewn from his cerebral cortex, emotions run through an invisible loom to create the beautiful quilt that covers the both of you.
Ghost’s hand comes up to thumb at the edge of his balaclava, and he pulls it up the tiniest bit, but then pauses to think.
He knows that if you just turn your head up the tiniest bit, you’ll see his face. The blonde stubble peeking out from under his skin, the small dent forming in the middle of his nose from the constant wearing of his balaclava, and possibly the most embarrassing of all, that small smile he wears that pulls at his already cracking lips that draws blood on occasion. Despite all of this, he pulls his face covering all the way off, and tosses it onto his desk. Your face doesn’t move an inch despite how obvious it is that some kind of fabric has hit the desk.
He considers saying thank you, but Ghost doesn’t deem it necessary. You’re so close to sleeping that he doesn’t want to risk ruining your chances by talking to you. So, instead, he just brings his arm over your side and lets his hand reach up into the nape of your neck to toy with the small hairs tapering off there. They’re short enough that he’s essentially just brushing his fingers against the skin of your neck, but he assumes you don’t mind, considering how you continue to not move. You stay still peacefully, soft breaths leaving you as your body starts to actually relax.
So you weren’t lying about your lack of sleep, he thinks, his own eyes slowly closing, not that I thought you were, anyway.
Your breathing creates the perfect white noise to him. The vibrations emitting from your larynx that escape your mouth reach his ear canals, where they bounce off of his eardrums, and move down from his middle ears to his inner ears where the nerve endings that live there turn the vibrations into electrical impulses and are translated by his brain into actual sound. The translation sounds like more than just a simple sound, though; it’s like your breathing is translated into actual words rather than breathing, words like safe and guarded. Those small vibrations bounce around in his ears and turn into syllables, then eventually whispers, then firm speech.
Those words are like music to his ears, as cliché as it is, and he cherishes every word he hears―more than he’ll ever let you know.

wc: 2.2k

author’s note: im back <3, more tomorrow, or perhaps later tonight if i feel up to formatting on this hell site. for kitten, shia, nori, 👩🏿🍼 anon, and everyone else who cheered me up when i felt super down post-holidays
new to baby blue? start here.
"Fuck." You murmur, maybe for the fourth time since the 15 minute timer had gone off on your phone. The word doesn’t seem heavy enough to sum up how you’re feeling, but you give it a few more tries anyway, “Fuck, fuck, fuck.” The word 'pregnant', however, is the heaviest you’ve ever seen, latching onto your limbs and skin and dragging you to the floor beneath you. ‘Pregnant’ stares you in the face from the stick in your shaking hands, punctuated with a little smiley face you can barely see through tears. In the back of your mind you kind of wished you'd gotten the kind with the little ambiguous pink lines, just so you could pretend you didn't understand what two lines instead of one meant. Just for a little bit. Alas, the pharmacist recommended the slightly more expensive test, the kind that gives you a week estimate. The kind that tells you you've been fucked for 3-4 weeks now.
Every emotion you'd been feeling up until then cedes to white hot panic. It's hard to breathe in your little blue bathroom.
You wonder what he'll say.
No.
You dread what he’ll say.
It’s nothing you two have ever talked about, not in the cold blackness of night, when he’d sat in your arms with his face bare to you and murmured every gory detail of his upbringing to you and not a goddamn therapist. Not the following morning when you’d sobbed your terror of the future, and losing everything you had into his lap. And certainly not when you had mutually decided you were “getting serious”.
And now you have to. You have to tell Simon you’re pregnant.
There's a pit in your stomach when he comes by that night, mask off and eyes warm, considering like they always are. You get swept up in how it feels to be near him, to have him crowd into your space, soaking your senses in his scent, his warmth. He kisses you gently, so soft it makes you want to cry. He used to say he wasn't capable of being like that. Not with you. Not with anyone.
Instead of sobbing into his chest like you’re desperate to, you chide him about wearing his boots in the house. You take the time he needs to unlace them to memorize what being with him feels like in this moment, the last time things will be easy.
He levers up and nudges his boots over to yours, where they sit side by side. Tears choke your voice again, and you’re praying it’s just a pregnancy thing rather than a ‘you being an unstable wreck’ thing.
“Sit.” You turn to the kitchen, setting your kettle on the stove and turning the knob to high. He hunkers down on the worn cream leather of your couch. You linger in front of your stovetop as long as you can, fussing with the mug Simon uses almost always, an ugly misshapen pink thing you’d made at a beginner ceramics class four years ago. It’s chipped at the lip, rose coloured glaze cracked, exposing the beige clay underneath it. Your hand glances over boxes of tea, back and forth over colourful labels that may as well be written in gibberish for all the luck you're having reading them.
It feels like there's no air in the room, like the secret under your t-shirt is taking it all, vacuum sealing your room until your chest burns and your head feels like it's going to pop. You tear open a brand new box of earl grey, stuffing it back onto your shelf when the tea bag is sat securely in the cup.
"What's wrong?” He grouses from the couch, and it’s only then that you realize your shoulders are hunched up around your ears.
“I..” your stomach rolls and sweat begins to bead on your forehead. You can hear him stir in his seat behind you, shifting forward so he can peer at you from your living room. Saliva gathers in your mouth, and oh god, maybe you actually will throw up, it’s too early for morning sickness right? Unless the stupid tests were wrong and now you’re going to cover your countertops in the stew you had for lun-
“Hey.” Simon is standing behind you now, his hands gripping your shoulders, shaking you lightly until you whip around to face him. The kettle is screaming now, filling your home with that shrill, high shriek of steam from the boiling water whistling through the appliance's tiny spout.
Somehow it’s still quieter than your pulse pounding in your ear.
“I’m pregnant.” You choke out, if only to stop yourself from retching over Simon’s socked feet. God, it’s like time stops, then it splits and cracks in clean halves. Into before and after he knew. Before and after his concerned expression crumbled into disbelief, before and after he schooled that disbelief into placid nothingness. And it’s not like you’d entertained the delusion that he’d be happy about it. But the silent hang time before he reacts is this terrible, hollow, unknown that tears up your insides and relishes in the shiny, red viscera.
A gruff, quiet "Are you sure?" is what you get from him, when he finally recovers, and you try so hard not to let it bother you. It's a shock. A surprise. A loud bang in the middle of a serene night, a cannon going off in your face, a gunshot into the sky when you thought the race was an hour from starting.
You try to give him a bit of grace. Still, the pit in your stomach grows.
Now it's a bit of a sinkhole.
"Baby, I wouldn't be telling you if I wasn't sure." You move to snag your fingers into the fabric of his shirt, to tug him close so you can hold each other, support each other, but he take a small step backwards, letting his palms slip from your shoulders.
The sinkhole is a cavern, yawning wide, open and empty.
You toss your hope and love inside.
“I need…some time.” He mutters, slinking out of your space, out of the kitchen and back into your entryway.
'Time to fucking what?' you think, but hold back. You know Simon. You love Simon. And you remember where he's come from. What he's come from. You realize a second too late you should be following him, and when you stumble over the kitchen threshold, he’s tying up his boots, his broad back facing you. You try to peer around him, try to get a look at his face, desperate to gauge where he’s at. But when you notice he’s knocked your shoes over in his scramble to get away, to be anywhere but here, you stop moving..
“Y-yeah. Okay. Just..uh, get back to me soon okay?” you stutter, and wrap your arms around yourself, like you know Simon won't. Not with the way his hands are shaking.
He doesn’t even respond this time.
The soldier just stands. He opens your front door. And walks out. Leaving you in your entryway. Water past its boiling point in the kettle.
You don’t see him again until you’re four, nearly five months along, the bump under your clothes now impossible to hide. When you stumble into your home, exhausted from working, he’s in your living room. Sitting there in his mask at your tiny dining room table. Like no time has passed at all. Like he should be there. You realize you never did get your spare house key back.
“Get out.” you spit, blood boiling under your skin.
"I know you're upset-" He begins, like he’s about to deliver a practiced speech.
"Get the fuck out!" Your tone is caustic, and you hope it burns him, hope it strips off all the facade on the rotting structure he is underneath.
"I never meant to leave it so long. This." He won't even say it. Can't even refer to you, let alone your baby. He stands up and becomes this big, dark mass in the bright space of your living room, black mask, black shirt, black boots, just a huge black hole that sucks up every good feeling you’d had in his absence, every ray of light that’d shone through the dark gloom he’d left behind. Nothing escapes his pull.
He peers at you from the gap in his mask. The stark white skull stretched over his face mocks you, maliciously whispers in your ear; ‘Did you think you knew him? That he was honest with you? Open to you?’
And you had. You did. You thought you were making progress, building some semblance of a future, falling in love.
It makes you sick to your stomach to think of it.
"You want to apologize, take the fucking mask off Simon." Your voice breaks, and part of you hopes he hears it for the plea it is. Hopes he understands what you’re asking of him. Hopes he feels how bad you missed him, under the hurt and pain and bitter, bitter loneliness. If he would just take it off, just pull the stupid fabric over his face and show you he was still yours under there, that he’d make a mistake and he’s ready now, then maybe the two of you could fix it. This.
Instead, his silence, his stillness cracks open your ribcage and pours black ink over your heart.
Humiliation and anger simmer on your tongue. What comes next is shockingly easy. "Oh you can't do it, huh? Can't be a fucking person with me, huh?" You shove at his chest, and he takes it, staring at you with pain in his eyes. Like this is hurting him.
"I shouldn't have waited so long, but I-" he steps towards you and it feels so good to rip away from his touch. To step back from his advance.
"No!” You shout, and your face is so hot, skin ablaze with righteous anger. “Shut up! Three months? Are you out of your fucking mind?"
And yes, one month of that was deployment, you’d known that, you’d talked about it, together. One month of no contact. One month of sand and heat and blood. But the other two months had been that white hot panic you'd felt on your own, in that tiny bathroom with the peeling blue wallpaper he'd promised he'd help you strip and replace. The other months had been missed calls, and ignored texts and you getting bigger under your sweaters because unlike him, you couldn't just take a break from the situation.
“Get the fuck out of my house!” You shove past him, deeper into your home, spinning around so he’s closer to your entryway than you are. “Don’t you ever show your face here again, do you hear me?” You’re screaming now, much to Ghost’s visible discomfort. Good. You hope your nosy ass neighbours call the cops. You hope they physically remove his pathetic ass. You hope they embarrass him. (It isn’t very likely, of course. But God, could you dream).
“You can't just keep it from me.” He steps closer and you lament that he has you on the backfoot. It’s your space, your home and yet it feels as though you’re the one who’s out of place, off kilter and uncomfortable. You glare at him.
“It’s mine too.”
‘It’ he says, and that bothers you. Irks you. Him calling your baby an ‘it’.
“Give me a fucking break, it wasn’t yours when you left me, you couldn’t wait to get your sorry ass out of here when I told you. Now you wanna play daddy? I don’t fucking think so.” You dig your fingernails into the meat of your palms, leaving aching crescents in their wake.
“And you know what? Maybe it’s my fault for wanting to be with someone who is so fundamentally fucking broken that he couldn’t fucking bear to show me his goddamn face until I’d begged him. Maybe I’m the idiot for thinking you could ever be capable of love, of decency. I needed you. And you abandoned me, Simon. You are a fucking monster.”
The word hangs in the air, hovering between the two of you where it can’t be taken back, and it sure as hell can’t be forgotten.
“You are good at distancing yourself, you are good at killing your feelings. Keep doing that. Stay the fuck away from me and my kid.” You’re panting when you finish, and everything hurts, one of your hands is bleeding, your eyelids prickle with the pain of unshed tears, your throat feels strained and tight. He nods once, jerky and quick, before he takes an unbalanced step back. Then another and another, his eyes never leaving yours, like he’s looking for something, anything other than hurt and hatred.
But there’s nothing else to find.
He turns, opening your front door and trudging out, heavy footfalls bracketing short moments of gut wrenching silence. It feels final. But it doesn’t feel good. Not like you thought it might.
He’s halfway into his SUV when you scramble out your front door, shouting over your porch railing to him in your driveway. “And get rid of my fucking keys!” He stares at you, standing stockstill, before he gets in the driver’s seat and pulls away.

Disasterology {BD!Simon}
Chapter Two: Who We Are
*pics for aesthetic purposes only
CW: simon is here (yay!), duel pov, insecurities (simon and reader), angst, allusions to depression, bad scottish slang (sorry johnny ilysm), probable inaccurate representation of the military (i'm tryin), mentions of terminating pregnancies, simon is a supportive king, general angsty emotions (it's not too bad imo), bad british slang (what can I say I'm american), mildly edited! lmk if i missed anything <3
WC: 2.2K (oopsie!)
Summary: You finally tell Simon you're pregnant and his reaction isn't what you expect. Now the both of you have to try and navigate this new normal, and your new strange relationship.
─── ⋆⋅𐀔⋅⋆ ────── ⋆⋅𐀔⋅⋆ ────── ⋆⋅𐀔⋅⋆ ────── ⋆⋅𐀔⋅⋆ ──────
In the following days since your appointment you've had some time to think. Simon has been out on deployment for a couple weeks and according to him, through sparse communication, he's supposed to be deployed for a couple more. That gives you enough time to gather your thoughts, somewhat anyways, and figure out how to tell him.
You decide not to mention anything to him while he's away, but Simon isn't stupid and he knows something is up. He's asked you, practically begged you, to tell him what's up, but no matter how much he asked you always ended up brushing him off, telling him it's nothing to worry about. At a certain point he just kind of stopped asking, a common game between the two of you. The obgyn's office had called you back a few days after your initial appointment about your results in regards to your bloodwork.
Unsurprisingly your bloodwork had confirmed you're pregnant too.
At this point in time your fear and emotional pain had faded and you just became kind of, numb. You didn't have time to be scared, not right now anyways. You went to have a follow up appointment with Doctor Green, just a general assessment of your health and the baby's health. She had told you you're about four, almost five weeks along in your pregnancy. The thought had your stomach churning around a bit.
Now that you've had a pregnancy conformation appointment and a follow up appointment you had enough medical 'evidence' to show Simon when he got back. Just in case he didn't believe you, just in case he tried to deny what you tell him. Honestly you don't know if you could handle that. You feel bad, guilty even, you know it's not really your fault you're pregnant, but jumping him with such a serious situation once he gets back feels almost selfish to you. Though you won't admit it aloud, there's also a part of you that feels relived at the thought of finally getting to tell him, even if his reaction is bad, at least it won't be weighing on your conscious any longer.
You don't want him to react badly though, you hope he won't.

Simon hadn't felt a dread like this in a long time. He's been away for a few weeks at this point and he doesn't know if he can handle being away from you any longer. Not now anyways. He's noticed a shift in you, in your behavior, you're hiding something from him and it's making him sick to his stomach. Maybe you're breaking things off, maybe when he gets back you'll tell him you can't do the weird song and dance that happens between the both of you and that you want nothing to do with him.
Or maybe you'll tell him you've found someone else, someone who will give you all the time and energy that you want and need, that the weird vagueness of the relationship you have together has pushed you into the arms of someone else. He wouldn't blame you if you left, he knows that you want to settle down, that you want to settle down with him, and he knows the fact that he won't is starting to pull the two of you apart.
He groans softly into the darkness of the safehouse. He misses you, his sweet girl, his sweet girl whom he selfishly clings to. He's worried you'll leave and he has no right to be, he doesn't deserve you, he doesn't deserve to call you his.
"Lt?" Soaps voice rumbles through the darkness. "Ye alrigh' Lt?"
"M' fine Johnny, why are you up?" Simon's voice comes out more agitated than he meant.
"Aye, no need tae bare ye claws Lt. S' my turn tae take watch." Johnny holds his hands up in surrender, even though he's sure Simon can barely see him do it.
Simon lets out a deep sigh, his hands dragging down the fabric of his skull print balaclava.
"My bad Johnny, S' a little stressed is all. It'll work itself out m' sure, don' worry." The way he speaks convinces neither him nor Johnny that he believes what he's saying.
"Is it ye bird?" Johnny says quietly as he sits down on the fold out chair next to Simon, not wanting to wake the others.
"She's not my bird, dunno' how many time I gotta say that." Simon rolls his eyes as Johnny lets out a chuckle.
"Ye say she's not, but I ken the ye look at her Lt. Not foolin' anyone, even Captain' Price as' mentioned it." Johnny eyes follow Simon's hands as he lights a cigarette. "Tell me what's wrong with ye Lt."
Simon takes a drag out of his cigarette, blowing out the puff of smoke before speaking again, the need for sleep and rest thick in his voice.
"I thin' she want's to leave, been actin' strange she but won' talk to me…" He tilts his head back as he speaks.
"Dinnae wan' her tae leave do ye?" Simon shakes his head. "Then don't let the lass go." Johnny stands up from the chair, slapping Simon on the shoulder strongly before picking up his gun and walking outside to take his post.
God he hates when Johnny is right.
─── ⋆⋅𐀔⋅⋆ ────── ⋆⋅𐀔⋅⋆ ────── ⋆⋅𐀔⋅⋆ ────── ⋆⋅𐀔⋅⋆ ──────
Your stomach is churning. Simon had flown back in a couple days ago and had some things to take care of on base but he assured you that he'd seen you soon, and fuck you didn't realize how soon, 'soon' actually was. A few hours ago your phone a chimed and a notification from Simon had popped up, the message short enough to reveal itself on your lock screen.
"Home soon. Be there in a few hours".
That message had brought back every feeling of fear and dread that you had been pushing deep down within these last few weeks. His message hit you like a fucking freight train, he was back, he was here, and now you have to face reality and tell him you're pregnant. Pregnant with his kid. It was scary, so god damn scary. Your hands were shaking wildly and in order to keep from passing out you forced your body to pace back and forth in your small apartment.
He'd be here any minute. Within the next hour you could lose him, your desperate and selfish hold on him all being in vain because he might just leave anyways. All those months of settling and ignoring the desperate tugging feeling of heart, it's all about to be thrown in the trash. What will you do if he leaves? What will you do if he doesn't? Every single suppressed notion coming to smack you in the face.
A soft thud brings you out of your spiral, but it's not just a thud. It's a knock. A knock at your door. Simon is here, outside of your door, waiting.
Fuck.
You walk over to the door with unsteady legs, your sweaty hands shaking on the knob as you pull the door open. On the other side, as expected, was Simon, a look of worry written on his face. You can't blame him, if you had been on his end of this you'd be worried too. Things were about to get a whole lot worse, for the both of you.
"Hi." You wheeze out.
"Hi sweetheart…" There's a long pause as he awkwardly stands in your doorway, mindlessly shifting on his feet. "Are you okay? You look sick…"
You are sick, you think. You're worse. You don't dare say that though, not yet.
"I'm.." You drag out the word for a painfully long time before swallowing thickly. "I need to talk to you actually.." You notice how he grows even more stiff at your words.
There's a part of you that desperately wants to offer him comfort, to tell him it's nothing serious and that everything's alright. Unfortunately, as unfair as it is to the both of you, you can't give him that reassurance. All you would be doing then is lying. Instead you move out the middle of the doorway and gesture for him to come inside. He obliges, nodding softly at you before dragging his feet inside your flat.
"Do you.. do you want a drink?" You'll need one, is what you want to follow up with.
"No." His answer is short and gruff, the way it always is when he's shutting down, when he's anxious. His eyes follow your figure as you place a teabag into a hot cup of water, presumably making a drink for yourself.
He walks over to a small coffee table and sits down, the chair dragging across the floor before his comically large figure restlessly tries to settle into it. You take the seat across from Simon, your thumbs fiddling together where they meet on the mug. There's a long beat of silence as Simon waits for you to speak, his dark eyes scanning every micromovement you make.
"Sweetheart, wha's wrong? Why ave' you been actin' so strange?" You can tell there's more he wants to ask, wants to say. If only you knew what it was, if only you could coax the words out of him yourself.
"Simon… I-" You pause, taking a deep, labored breath, while fidgeting with the teabag in your cup for a few moments.
"I'm pregnant Simon."
─── ⋆⋅𐀔⋅⋆ ────── ⋆⋅𐀔⋅⋆ ────── ⋆⋅𐀔⋅⋆ ────── ⋆⋅𐀔⋅⋆ ──────
Out of all the things Simon 'Ghost' Riley expected to be told by you once he got back, you being pregnant was not one of them. Your words send him into a complete state of shock, and if it weren't for the sharp, short breaths he was releasing every so often, you might've thought the news killed him. You're staring at him expectantly, you want him to say something, react in some way, any way, but all he can do is stare at you with big, dumb, wide eyes.
"Are you going to say something?" Simon can see how fearful you are for his reaction but even then there's a bite in your voice. You're desperate for him to do something.
After a few more moments of Simon pathetically floundering around every word known to him in his head, he can finally string together a sentence.
"Is it mine?" Wrong thing to say Simon. Your face scrunches up unpleasantly and you throw him a nasty, teary-eyed glare.
"Of course the baby is fucking yours Simon!" The way you speak is exasperated. "I'm not going out whoring myself around to anyone with a dick!"
"I'm not sayin' you are I just-" You angrily cut him off, tears beginning to roll down your cheeks.
"Is that really the first fucking thing you say? The only thing you're fucking worried about?" He cringes in response to your words, he didn't mean for it to come out sounding as bad as it did.
"No, no. Of course not, I didn't mean to insinuate anything sweetheart, you know I'd never do that." His response seems to calm you down a bit, well as calm as you can be right now, because that fury in your eyes burns out.
There's more silence, more staring. Neither of you know what to say or what this means. What to do. Simon is once again the one to break the silence, clearing his throat lowly before speaking once more.
"Are you… keeping it?" He immediately winces at his wording, mentally kicking himself for referring to a, possible, future human as 'it.'
"The baby I mean," He clarifies. "Are you keeping the baby?"
"I don't know." The way you answer so helplessly has his heart clenching.
"I'm scared Simon. I don't know what I want or what to do and-" Your tears start to fall again. "And I can't do this all alone…"
Simon's heart fucking breaks. Alone? Did you not want him part of this? Or even worse did you think he was just going to up and leave you? Simon may be a bad man, a cruel man even, but he'd never leave you. Not now, not like this.
"You don't have to do it alone…" The words coming out uncharacteristically soft from him. Your eyes flick up to meet his. "No matter wha' you choose I'll be here to support you." He sees some of the tension leave your shoulders at that.
"Maybe, but even then, no matter what I do things will change." Your hands come up to wipe the remaining tears off your face.
"If I keep the baby we'll be in some weird co-parenting relationship and you'll have a kid you never even wanted, but if I don't have the baby then…" Your voice trails off.
"Then wha'?" His deep voice speaking the words gingerly.
"I don't know Simon… I'd like to sit here and pretend that we'll figure things out but it's complicated both ways. We're not even together now and we're just supposed to have a baby? I mean you don't even want kids! There's just so much to consider and it's all so much. I don't-" Simon reaches across the table to lay his hand over yours, the rough, calloused feeling of his fingers causing you to pause.
"We will figure it out." There's an assured air to his words, though neither of you entirely believe them.
You let out a shaky breath as your gaze meet his, your lashes clumped together and your eyes red and swollen.
"Okay."

Can We Stay Awhile? ♡ Simon “Ghost” Riley
summary: a heartfelt farewell between Simon and you, where your unspoken emotions and a tender embrace define your parting; despite promises to keep in touch, you part with unexpressed feelings and missed opportunities. tags/trigger warnings: sfw, f!reader, emotional goodbye, sadness/heartache, longing and separation, maybe unrequited love, tis’ sad wc: 2.2k
pt.1 ・ pt. 2 ・ pt.3
“You didn’t have to do this for me, y’know…” You gaze idly out the window, the outside world zipping past in a glaucous haze.
“I know,” he answers, his voice one could describe as only tristful. You smile softly, watching him as he shifts uncomfortably underneath your stare.
So why are you? You wanted to ask, yet held your tongue so as not to ruin the peaceful mood by forcing him into a confession. Sometimes, you wonder if pushing him will bring him closer or turn him away. You knew he was a tough nut to crack, and so were you; opening up took time, but time was running thin.
Darkness covered the outside world, with only the faintest hint of the sun's early light slipping through the morning mist that gently clung to your window—a somber, overcast blanket draped over the sky, a common sight in this country. And yet, you couldn’t help but feel it somehow mirrored the escalating tension in the air.
You were finally leaving.
Simon was the first to offer to drive you to the airport, despite knowing that you had to leave early in the morning. His constant willingness to go out of his way for you always stood out. Even when you tried to decline his offer, he insisted on being there for you. Simon wasn't the type to be openly affectionate, so you perceived his actions as expressing his care and concern for you.
And yet, he hadn’t spoken a word until now, only answering in grunts or shakes of his head. You could tell just by a glance that he was hurt even if his face remained stoic and his body motionless.
"We'll keep in touch," you assured, your words tinged with empathy. However, Simon's frustration only intensified.
As you stared at him, hoping for a response, you couldn't help but admire his striking features. You recalled the moment when he took off his mask in front of you for the first time, and how his satisfied smile lit up his face as he saw your reaction. "And I promise to find the time to come and see you," you whispered, feeling a little disheartened by his silence.
“Mhm,” he grunted, his fingers flexing against the steering wheel.
“I don’t get it,” you huff, your eyes narrowing in irritation. “You travel for work all the time.”
“M’ not upset.” He sighs, never taking his eyes off the road ahead. “Not wit’ you, anyway.”
“Oh,” you say rather dumbly, slumping back into your seat. “Then, why—”
“I just…” he sighs again; a moment passes as he attempts to turn his thoughts into words. “Do I have tuh say it? Ya know how I feel about ya’.” The resignation in his voice was palpable as if he was waving up a white flag in surrender.
“I know,” you sympathize, feeling the total weight of what’s to come. “I’m sorry, Simon, I–”
“Dun’t apologize,” he cuts you off abruptly. He clears his throat before softening his tone. “S’not yer fault, love.”
“I know, I just wish that…” You close your mouth, struggling to find the right words. “I wish we got to spend more time together, that’s all.”
“Aye,” he swallows, jerking his head in a nodding motion. “Me too.”
He couldn't quite explain the thoughts and feelings swirling around in his head. It was a flurry of emotions. Simon wasn't good at them and never had been. He could handle a gun better than expressing his feelings, but you were different. Everything was different with you.
Silence again dominates the scene, leaving an air of melancholy and awkwardness. You turn the music dial to drown it out, and he silently thanks you. For once, he is content with not speaking. He doesn’t want to fight or argue. He wants to savor his limited time, even though it does little to soothe the ache in his chest.
Watching the front of the airport come into view, you struggled to express your gratitude. "Thanks for driving me," you finally managed to say, the words stuck in your throat as if they were hesitant to leave.
“Don’t mention it…” He trailed off weakly, feeling a mix of disappointment and frustration welling up inside of him. The airport grew closer and closer, the white concrete building standing out in the darkness like a beacon.
Simon pulled his vehicle into the drop-off lane, his grip on the steering wheel tight and strained. The engine hummed to a halt as the car stopped, but neither of you had yet to exit.
“I have to go now,” you said, looking at him, eyes wide and searching his face for a reaction. “I’ll miss you.”
His eyes met yours, and you saw so many emotions flicker within his gaze: sadness, anger, and something else that bordered on resignation. “Yeah… me too.” He muttered gruffly, trying to keep his emotions under control.
A beat of silence passed between you both, the air heavy with unsaid words and unexpressed feelings. “Be safe,” Simon finally spoke again, his tone curt and somewhat hoarse.
“I’ll try,” you quipped, reaching for even the tiniest crumb of humor, your lips quivering into a small smile, yet your eyes betrayed you, your face remained atrabilious.
His lips twitched involuntarily, almost mirroring the hint of a smile. “Don’t try,” he said, his voice tinged with wryness. “Ya’ know how I worry ‘bout ya.”
Simon knew that you were trying to lighten the mood and shield him from your emotions, as well as protecting yourself. However, he saw through your brave facade and could see the sadness in your eyes despite your forced smile.
“I know,” you grinned, huffing a short breath of laughter. “But I’ll update you; tell you what I’m doing and where I’m going.” You reassured, fighting back the urge to hold his hand. “I’ll come back, I promise.” You repeated, more serious this time.
His gaze softened a hint, a flicker of vulnerability passing over his rugged features. “Y’better,” he grumbled, the hint of teasing in his voice belied by a hint of desperation.
Simon leaned back in his seat, taking a moment to look at you, at how your hair frames your face, the slight tremble in your lip, and the shine in your eyes.
“I’ll be waitin’ for ya’,” he said, his voice quieter now. “Just… take care of yourself, arright?”
“I will,” you nod, your gaze finding his lips for a moment before meeting his eyes again. You shoot him one final smile before opening the passenger door and stepping outside.
You wait outside for Simon to open his trunk and collect your suitcases. The weather has warmed, but the brumous winds haven’t lost their bite.
He silently steps out, closing the driver's door before going to the back, opening the trunk, and unloading your suitcases. His movements are mechanical, his mind preoccupied with the idea that you’ll be gone soon.
As Simon silently loads the suitcases into your waiting hands, his gaze shifts back and forth to the airport entrance. The soft morning sun begins to emerge, casting a warm glow on your face, and Simon feels a pang of longing in his heart as he takes in the sight.
“Goodbye, Simon.” Your lip wobbles as you reach to hold him by his face, leaning forward and placing a chaste peck on his cheek.
“I’ll talk to you soon,” you whispered as you pulled away, holding up your heavy luggage with a grunt. “Thanks for everything.” You bit your lip, choking back your tears as they warmed your eyes.
He struggled to swallow, feeling the constriction in his throat as he bid you farewell. He couldn't move, feeling rooted to the ground for a brief moment. His muscles tensed like coiled springs as a swarm of thoughts invaded his mind, gripping him in a vice of unease.
He suddenly reached out as you were about to turn away, gently grabbing your wrist. “Wait,”
He pulled you back to him, his other hand moving to the nape of your neck as he enveloped you in a fierce embrace. He pressed you against him, his arms wrapping around you tightly, desperate and protective.
Simon buried his face in your hair, inhaling your scent and committing it to memory. Pressure built in his chest, and the dam started to crack for the first time in a while.
You were left speechless by his spontaneous act of affection, your body frozen still in shock before you let go of your bags, uncaring how they fell as you threw your arms around his shoulders, smushing your cheek into his shoulder as your feet lifted from the ground. You squeezed him tightly, his skin dampening as you silently cried.
Simon's fingertips grasped the fabric of your shirt, clinging tightly to his grip on you, verging on possessiveness as his body slightly quivered while he rested his chin against the top of your head.
He was engulfed in a wistful trance, feeling like a mighty tide was pulling him under. However, amidst it all, a profound and overwhelming sense of emptiness washed over him at the mere thought of your departure.
Reluctantly, you slowly released your tight hold on him, allowing your toes to barely touch the solid ground. His arms still wrapped around your lower back as your hand came to rest upon his chest. You giggled, delicately dabbing away the moisture underneath your eyes, followed by a wet sniffle.
His intense gaze locked firmly on yours, carefully examining the contours of your face. He observed the gentle flutter of your eyelashes as you tried to blink away your tears and noticed how your lips slightly parted as if they had a thousand and one unspoken words waiting to be said. Your faces were so close that your noses almost touched, the warmth of your breath mingling in the small space between you.
He longed to bridge the gap between you, to take your face in his hands and claim your lips fervently. Instead, he settled to rest his forehead against yours in a silent display of affection.
“Off with you,” he whispered, pulling away with a tight-lipped smile.
With a sense of hesitation, he slowly withdrew his hands from your body, and the lingering sensation of his touch left behind a profound and tangible sense of emptiness. He wanted to say so many things. Stay, don’t go. I’m a fool. I’m in love, and I’m scared. But none of them escaped his lips.
Instead, all he said was, “Give me a ring when ya’ land, arrite?”
"Of course," you whispered back hoarsely, your voice barely audible above the ambient noise. You nodded slowly before letting your heels touch back to the concrete with a sharp click, its sound echoing through the bustling street.
As you turned to leave, with his help, you gathered your belongings. You expressed a gentle and definitive thank you before pivoting away, leaving him in the background as you walked towards the front. Before entering, you looked back, offering a slightly awkward wave as a final goodbye.
He remained still beside the car, observing as the space between you widened with each stride. Folding his arms across his chest, he took several deep breaths to control himself. With a feeble wave, he leaned against the car, his emotions hidden behind a carefully constructed mask of stoicism.
His eyes remained fixated on the door through which you disappeared as if expecting you to come walking back at any moment. However, reality soon sank in, and he knew he had to accept that you were gone. Still, he lingered for a few moments longer, his mind replaying the scene repeatedly.
He tightly pressed his lips together, grinding his teeth and clenching his jaw, battling the tumultuous thoughts that were tearing him apart from the inside.
Eventually, he pushed himself away from the car before returning inside.
As he fumbled with the controls, attempting to resume the music to fill the void of silence, he became aware that your Bluetooth had disconnected. Agitated, he swallowed hard and swiftly shifted the car into drive, eager to return home.
The drive back seemed to stretch endlessly, with a profound silence suffocating him. Not one stray thought crossed his mind as he drove, his entire concentration fixed on the road ahead. The sky gradually shifted from a foggy blue to a soft glow, the gradual light of dawn revealing a world emerging from its slumber.
As you settled into your seat and the airplane ascended into the sky, you gazed out of the vacant window, observing the somber clouds gliding past. You pressed the heel of your palm against your quivering lips, struggling to contain the wrecked sob welling up inside you.
Throughout the flight, you only wanted to turn your brain off, sleep away from this mess, and pretend it didn't happen. Simon was just a man who made your time a little more worthwhile; it was simply an enjoyable experience and nothing more.
As soon as you stepped off the plane, however, you felt the overwhelming urge to reach out and hear his voice. You couldn't deny your deep longing for him despite trying to maintain your composure and pride. How much you missed him was almost painful, especially considering you had never established an official relationship. Yet you were caught up in tears over someone who had never been yours.
A sense of desperation washed over you as you reached for the phone. You dialed the number Simon had left, anticipation building as the phone rang once, twice, and again. Your hope dwindled with each unanswered ring as he failed to pick up. He never answered. And he never called you back.

Ae Fond Kiss - Part 5
'Twas Past One O'Clock
Summary: You find a ghost in your house. Words: 2.2k
Parts: 1 2 3 4 5 6
T’was past one o’clock and you were ready for some alone time. By the time you got back to the house Simon and Joey would be off to the football and you could just chill out after delivering 250 iced biscuits for a wedding that had taken you all your sanity to get done in time. You knew the two of them would have left the house spotless for you. Simon insisted when he was home he handled the majority of the cleaning and Joey being the fantastic kid that he was always wanted to help.
You desperately needed to lie down. The morning had taken it out of you and you felt run down and a little nauseous from all the running around.
Maybe after you could finish off the album you had been working on for Joey’s birthday. It was all Johnny, the story of who he was and your relationship with him. The more time went on the less scared you got about telling your son about his dad. You couldn’t help but send a quick thought up to wherever Johnny was, a sheepish apology for waiting so long with a promise that you and Simon would make sure his son knew him.
It came as a surprise seeing Joey sitting on the front step rather than at the game. You were out of the car and rushing over when you saw the look on his face, like he had seen a ghost.
“Are you ok? Are you hurt? Where’s dad?”
You were on your knees checking him over, frowning when you saw he had turned off his hearing aid and rapidly signing your questions instead. He only ever turned it off when he was upset and had very little hearing without it which always worried you. It was valid of him to want quiet when he was having big emotions and you never wanted to force him to keep it on if he didn’t want it, but as a mother you also wanted him to always be as safe as he possibly could be and that meant being able to listen for any danger.
“They were fighting. I don’t want to hear it anymore.”
“Who was fighting?”
“Dad.”
“Who was dad fighting with?”
“Dad.”
“What do you mean? Is dad ok?”
You felt your heart squeeze tight. It had been years since Simon had had a bad episode. He still had mild ones now and then, still had nightmares, but he hadn’t hurt himself or anyone else in such a long time. He worked as a trainer now, not spending much time away from home. That had happened 4 years ago when he was offered a promotion up to Captain and chose to instead come out of active duty. Eventually he had told you that it didn’t feel right being anything but a Lieutenant. He never had to say out loud that it was to do with Johnny, but you knew that’s what it came down to. If Johnny couldn’t call him Captain, then he’d stay as LT.
“Which dad? Because they’re both in there. Why didn’t you tell me?”
You searched Joey’s face. He was angry, sad, frustrated. It was in his expression and the way he signed. You tried to understand what he was telling you with your heart pounding and your mouth feeling painfully dry. You didn’t know what to do. Leaving Joey on the step was against your instincts, but now you were terrified for Simon. What on earth was going on? Was he ok?
You jumped when you heard a car door slam and turned to see a very serious looking John Price coming towards you.
“John? What’s going on?”
He looked from you to Joey to the house.
“Is he here?”
You wanted to ask who he was talking about but Joey beat you to it. The kid was a pro at lip reading.
“He got here when we were about to leave. Punched dad, broke his glasses. I got told to wait outside for mum.”
You didn’t understand what was going on. Who punched Simon? It at least had to be someone he knew, more accurately someone he trusted. He would never have sent Joey to sit outside if not. If someone dangerous was in the house, Simon would have sent Joey straight to the pub down the street that Eyitayo ran. She was a veteran who had worked with Simon before and he trusted her to get you and Joey safe in the event of someone tracking him down.
The fact that Joey was sat right here meant it wasn’t someone that was a danger to him. But also someone that would punch Simon. And someone that John knew was here.
“I was going to tell you.”
You knew the look John was giving you. Guilt. It was a look you had become accustomed to from him, a look you got anytime the topic of your deceased husband came up.
“Going to tell me what John? Who is inside my house?”
You knew. Who else could it be? You looked at John, waiting for him to say something, say anything that meant there was not a ghost in your house. Instead he looked shamed and in pain, knowing as well as you did by this point that your life was about to fall apart again.
Perhaps a better mother would not have walked into the house and left her son sitting there. You were not better. You loved your son more than anything, but in that moment you felt dissociated from everything and everyone, the only sound the rush of blood pumping around your body which floated forward without your conscious effort.
You saw Simon first. His glasses were broken, one lens a spiderweb of cracks and the frame warped but still valiantly clinging to him. There was dried blood at his nose, a streak from where he must have wiped it away. The beginnings of a black eye. But it was his eyes. You had loved this man for most of your adult life and you had never seen him look so broken. Not when he came home from a bad deployment needing you to take control. Not when the anniversary of Johnny’s death came and went with each passing year. Not when Joey screamed at him once that he didn’t need to listen to him because he wasn’t even his real dad (God he was so like Johnny with how his temper flared and he picked the most hurtful thing to say that he could before immediately regretting it).
The other man was sat on the sofa, head in hands. His hair was long. He looked older than he should be you thought. There was such a great tension in him that your disconnected body gave a sudden thrum between your legs, remembering what this man turned into when he came home from a bad deployment, angry and violent with nothing to turn it into but aggressive passion. But it was a wasted effort of your biology as your brain processed who was sitting in your living room and your stomach gave an almighty lurch, sending you with a stumble to the small toilet off the side of the living room to empty it.
There was swearing coming from the men. A rough hand brushed your hair away from your face while another rubbed your back.
“Cap told me tae stay put but ye know me. Should’ve warned ye rather than scaring ye like this. I just… I couldnae wait bonnie. I just wanted tae see ye.”
He sounded like himself but not. His accent was a bit twisted now, something slightly wrong about the tone, something more Slavic now. But my God it was him. Older, harder, a little worse for wear, but it was your Johnny. Your John MacTavish. There was a hand on his face, fingers shakily tracing the changes. It took you a moment to realise it was your hand. He leaned into it, his eyes intense on yours. It had been a decade and this man still burned for you the way he had before he died.
How you wished that he didn’t feel so strange despite it all. But then, who wouldn’t become a stranger after a decade apart?
“You… you died…”
“I’m so sorry. It wisnae supposed tae be so long. A few months, just tae make the world a safe place for our family.”
You couldn’t think properly. You felt so ill and so tired and it was overwhelming. You looked through the open doorway and tried to find Simon but even if he was there you weren’t sure you could get your vision to focus enough to tell. Your eyes were swimming you realised, tears blurring everything.
“Did he know?”
“Aye.”
Your heart had barely broken before Johnny was making a choked sort of noise and pressing his forehead to yours.
“Fuck. He didnae know. Simon never knew. I shouldnae have said that, I just… you’re married to him.”
You didn’t think you would have survived if Simon knew this whole time. It was too severe a wound to ever hope for recovery. It was so like your Johnny, that knee jerk reaction when he was hurt that he immediately regretted. You were so unused to it now. Simon wasn’t like that, he was careful with what he said even when he was angry or hurt. Honestly you had wished sometimes he was a little more like Johnny because it made it hard to even tell that he was angry or hurt when he so rarely let it show.
“You died. You died and I wanted to die with you.”
“I’m here now. It’s going tae be ok bonnie, I’m right here. We can move wherever ye want, ye liked it up North eh? Start again.”
It was like your consciousness all slammed back into your body at once. The bone deep exhaustion was tempered only by the sudden alarm at his words.
“I- no, I… Johnny, I have a family.”
Oh, you had not meant for those to be the words you gave him. You had not meant for it to cause him to look like he had been shot. Although you supposed Simon must already know what that actually looked like. You wanted to throw up again. His hand on your shoulder gripped tighter, almost painful. When you flinched his face fell and he let go, backing up out of your space with his hand going to tug on his own hair.
“I ken… I couldnae expect… if it was anyone else I’d be happy for ye. Naw him bonnie. It cannae be him.”
“But it is.”
You tried to wordlessly plead with your first husband, to have him understand. You could no sooner stop being entirely in love with Simon Riley than you could stop your own heart beating. Your solid and steadfast Simon who was outside comforting your son, who left you with the first love of your life because of course he would. He had been firm with you long ago in his belief that you would never leave one another, not with how tangled up you were. You had split up once and that had ended within 12 hours with you being fucked in the neighbours shed at a party for the cup final. How could you ever live without him?
It was as incomprehensible an idea as living without Johnny had been once upon a time.
“Is everything ok?”
You saw the hurt in Johnny when you relaxed at hearing Simon coming back in.
“Joey?”
“Gaz came to pick him up. He’s… as ok as he can be.”
He eyed Johnny warily as he pushed into the bathroom to gently help you up. You were so tired and you let your weight sag against him.
“She needs to get cleaned up and rest a bit.”
“Aye I’m naw fucking blind Si.”
“Could’ve fooled me MacTavish given that you had her on the floor.”
“Fuck all the way off Riley!”
He was alive. He was alive and here and him and his best friend were at each other's throats. It was your fault wasn’t it? If you hadn’t fallen in love with Simon this miracle could have been met with only happiness. God you wanted to sleep. You wanted to be clean and to brush your teeth and sleep. You wanted to wake up and be able to hold Johnny, to prove to yourself he was here and real and alive.
“P-please…” you choked out, not entirely sure what you were asking for.
There was silence for a moment and you could only stare at the floor, swaying a little with how woozy you felt.
“...ye have that hippie tea?”
“Top right cupboard, I’ll…”
“Aye. Don’t you worry bonnie, I’ll have it hot and ready for ye.”
He ran a hand over your head, bringing it to your cheek and then your chin to tilt your head up to look at him.
“I love you. So much” he said, voice rough with emotion as he pressed a kiss to your forehead and walked away.
You barely remembered the shower. All you knew was that you were tucked into bed with your favourite tea and your exhaustion took you under fast enough that you couldn’t follow the conversation happening outside of your bedroom.
