Mrs. Leech is a spotted moray eel from Barbados 🇧🇧

╰ I'm not going to try and explain how tiger sharks (who fertilize internally) and moray eels (who fertilize externally) had babies. I don't want to think about it either actually.

They were conceived and born in Hawaii

^^ This is what moray eel nesting looks like btw. Imagine this but with a bigger coral cave, a 12ft (4m) moray mermaid, 15ft (5m) shark/moray merman, and two half foot (15cm) long merbabies.

After they get big enough they begin to explore with jade

╰ Floyd was fascinated with other sea creatures while Jade liked the coral and seaweed around them.

It takes ~7 months for a moray eel to double in size, so at around 2 years old floyd was already a whopping foot (30.5cm) long! yippee!

They learned how to hunt with papa Leech around this time :3

I had to do some math. If a moray eel doubles in size every 7 months (~210 days), and floyd was 1 foot (30.5 cm) long at 2 years old, at 13 years old he would be... very big. so im going to curb this logic and say the doubling in size stops at around 3 years old.

I'll just say he was 6ft (3m) at 13 years old for convenience

^^ Moray eels get cleaned by cleaner shrimps! They have a transactional relationship- the shrimp gets a free meal and the moray gets a free bath (scrubbed of any parasites)

I imagine this is somewhat similar to how Mr. Leeches "special business" works. "I'll scratch your back, you'll scratch mine, and if you stop scratching I'll eat you," kind of vibe. This is the mindset he wanted to instill into the tweels.

Floyd proved too difficult to train, so Mr. Leech moved onto Jade

This is where the insecurity and shit started to set in.

🎀 Owns a trusty book given to her by her mother, which has been in their family's possession for generations. She got it for help when they moved to Night Raven College. They're bad at memorising, so she makes sure they always carry it with her.

🎀 She used to help with looking after the children in the town, so they have decent experience with babysitting.

🎀 Has a soft spot for the Ramshackle Prefect, regardless of their dynamic/universe. Even bigger soft spot for Grim because he reminds them of her cat.

🎀 Far stronger than what they look. Once they provoked Flody and wrestled with him (ended in a tie). Similarly, they fight like a beast if angered, despite coming off as charming and ditzy most of the time (classmates swear they've heard her hiss before).

Pop Music Club (Cater/Kalim/Lilia): Her club members are the ones she considers her first genuine friends in NRC. Originally joined so she could work on her singing, the 4 quickly hit it off with their band dynamic, particularly her and Lilia for their love for Metal. Jovie is the main songwriter and duets with Cater.

Diasomnia: Unlike other groups of humans, Witches historically have had a good relationship with the Fae (helping them fight against the Silver Owl), Jovie's family is specifically well known in the Briar Valley's history. Upon finding out she's an Espellika, Malleus instructed Silver and Sebek to treat her with respect (especially after Sebek treated her like how he treats other humans). Lilia was acquainted with her great-great stm-stm grandparents.

Riddle: An overly strict guy who follows every rule and a girl who couldn't care less about authority...not exactly a match made in heaven. They tend to bicker a lot, and Jovie has gotten the collar from him on a few occasions. As Jovie got used to the new environment and learned she has to follow the rules sometimes, their relationship improved and became one of mutual respect (they still argue).

Vil: An unexpected friendship, but Jovie quickly started seeing Vil as an old brother figure. They have an interest in fashion and clothing, so she often went to him for advice/tips/etc. They eventually grow closer, and she seeks advice often from him.

Staff members: Most of the staff tends to have frustrations with Jovie due to her not being willing to listen to authority. Although, Vargas seemed to like her free spirit (and the fact she's an expert with the broom). Crewel and Trein recognise her talents but wish she would stop being so troublesome in class. In contrast, she and Sam hit it off pretty quickly with both having interests in "darker" forms of magic. He sometimes even hires her to perform readings for the students in his shop. On the other hand, Crowley tries his best to not commit violence against a student (jk). He's acquainted with her mother, and whenever something bad happens involving Jovie, he has to notify her mother which...often results in his getting an earful.

♡ Azul: I have another post that goes in-depth about her relationship with Azul (here). But to keep it simple, childhood friends who got reunited once they enrolled into NRC and are trying to manage their new relationship after the amount of changes they both had through their years apart.

Ramshackle Members (Rollo/Fellow/Giddle/Prefect/Grim): Jovie considers Ramshackle her "coven" (despite the one she supposedly is a part of back home) and is protective of it. She makes sure Giddle is taken care of, Fellow is catching up with his education, Rollo is adapting to the new environment etc. They are especially close to the Prefect and Grim, as they have been together in the same dorm post-book 3 (Jovie even joins the Prefect in book 6 to rescue Grim). Ramshackle helped Jovie realise that power without companionship is ultimately pointless.

☆ Wanted her design to give more witchy vibes, so I gave her a dress that was inspired by the ones the Sanderson sisters wore (like...a modern version of them)

☆ Stockings and boots similar to the ones Winifred Sanderson wears. Also wears heels to feel less short LMAO.

☆ A mole on the left side of her mouth, it references the mole Sarah Sanderson has (she also jokes about matching with Azul).

☆ Her bob haircut was inspired by how I used to make my hair a few years ago. She also paints her own nails.

☆ Fishnets, a small reference to the ones the Sister wore, but also because I find them cool.

☆ The bow she wears is enchanted and can transform into a hat and cape (for flying), a gift from her father. Not inspired by anything, I just like the idea of her having a shape-shifting bow (and I just like bows).

☆ The ✨ feeling ✨ is just when butterflies hit her stomach (we blame Azul for that).

☆ Her name "Jovelina" (jove-leen-a) is (I think) made up, I modelled it after "Jovie". "Enspell" means to cast a spell, I just added the Greek suffix "-ika" at the end.

☆ Fun fact: Due to being my ex-persona (made her an oc after I realised I'm transmasc) she and I share the same birthday and height. That's also why we share some similar traits in personality (cute aggression say hello).

Oh how much Rook would wish to claim both of them! It would truly make him the happiest alpha at NRC lol, I absolutely agree.

Realistically, I think Vil doesn’t allow Rook to claim him _yet_, implying that they would do that after the graduation. And Epel is still so young and has so many things to experience before he is properly claimed…

… but all these reasons mean nothing in the heat (lol) of the moment. Both of them are so wonderful, Rook just couldn’t help himself. Twice.

Oh Ortho and his lasers, he is capable of ruining the entire prison in just one emotional moment 😭

Well, I think Ortho would be upset, but kinda happy for Vil. It’s bittersweet. He loved hanging out with him and was looking forward to their little chats every day, but he knew that Vil’s place wasn’t behind bars. I mean, technically it absolutely was, because Vil is a criminal, but Ortho saw Vil as an actor first and foremost, and he kind of wanted him to be free + to see him on a big screen again. The latter thing is kind of naive of him lol

If Ortho really wanted, he could’ve found Vil within an hour after his escape. But with the relationship they formed, he’s likely to mess with the search instead, preventing people from finding him. Breaking the law and defying his programming in the name of love 😔

But he’ll still be upset, sigh a lot and complain to Idia about how much he misses Vil :( Your little brother experienced a heartbreak for the first time, Idia…

Hm...what kind of prison cells some of the inmates are in? Like imagine Lilia having him wear a straitjacket in a high secured cell because how dangerous he is. Funny if Jamil and Floyd ended up as cellmates which Flody have fun messing with him.

For some reason we always envision single-celling, so the idea of them having cellmates haven’t even occurred to me personally, but it would be funny to have Floyd as Jamil’s cellmate lol Because he is the worst person for Jamil to get stuck with. Jamil is so sneaky about the way he acts and presents himself in this prison, and Floyd would see right through his bullshit. But whether he’d get Jamil busted or not depends on his mood, so Jamil would get so paranoid. Did Floyd figure it out? Is he going to rat on him? Floyd won’t rat on him, but it’s because he really enjoys seeing Sea Snake get so nervous… or maybe he’ll make Jamil buy his silence~ Floyd also never lets Jamil sleep in general: he is verrrry friendly. And talkative!

Lilia would be someone to get into the isolated secured cell from time to time due to disobedience; just because he felt like having fun that day lol He would look gorgeous in a straitjacket. But that’s not always the case.

I feel like Rollo would constantly be in a straitjacket though, he is the “don’t give him anything flammable or anything at all for that matter” type of guy lol

Floyd could’ve also ended up in a secured and isolated cell, but Azul works hard on not letting it happen: he had to bribe someone to keep Floyd easy to bail out whenever it’s needed + Floyd would be kind of useless if he couldn’t get around the prison and do his mission (if he has one).

We haven’t seen the event so I can’t say anything about these two, but I will say that Gidel has a vibe of someone who is capable of coughing out a lock pick that Fellow could use to escape… so if he gets away with stuff scot-free because of his age, all he needs to do is to swallow a lock pick and visit Fellow once lol

How does Idia act when he gets a crush on someone? Is it easy for them to tell? Conversely, how would he act if he found out someone had a crush on him? Embarrassed, in denial, grateful?

I always think about his conversation with Crimson Muscle in ch6, but also his conversation with him in Idia’s vignette, both of these feel like great examples of how Idia acts when he has a crush on someone. But this is a crush in its purest form: he trusts Lilia, he is comfortable enough around him not to openly confess of course, but to at least express how he feels about him. He gets giggly and happy, it’s almost like you can feel the butterflies he has in his stomach when you look at him. But he is still shy and awkward and anxious that he would say something wrong or that he said too much and annoyed his crush, but yet he is very eager to share his favourite things with him and spend as much time with him as possible… he is almost 100% emotionally domesticated by Lilia, this is why he is such a kitten when he talks to him online.

Eye-to-eye though, I feel like Idia is a bit of a tsundere lol If you know, you know, but for some people it’s kind of subtle. I feel like Idia’s love language is quality time, so his go-to is to share his favourite things with the person. That’s why he brings games to play with Azul and brings music to him, granted, he doesn’t probably even think that he has a crush on Azul – it’s kind of complicated between them, but he clearly wants to get closer to him… sometimes. For some, it would be an obvious sign of Idia showing interest. For Azul it’s just Idia being Idia lol He is a little slow when it comes to crushes.

Now, if someone had a crush on Idia, he would absolutely be in denial about that. He would refuse to even consider the possibility that this is someone’s earnest feeling and that they are serious about being drawn to him. Idia can’t really imagine someone having an actual crush on him, so he wouldn’t be ready. Even if it makes total sense and he felt it even before the confession (and he could have, because Idia is actually quite good at detecting these things), he would probably feel the urge to make fun of either himself or that person because wow you have terrible taste. It’s difficult with Idia, so thank god all of his potential boyfriends are very stubborn.

Quiet, mysterious and always looking like he would rather be somewhere else, Kalle is Azul's loyal yes-man. He spends most of the time on the sidelines, carefully observing people around him and gathering information. He acts as Azul's eyes and follows his every order, gossip says.

Like the rest of the Octavinelle trio, Kalle is a merperson and actually went to the same middle school as them, though they never interacted much. To be fair, Kalle had never interacted much with anyone. As the middle child out of a gaggle of loud kids, he grew up either being forgotten and left behind, getting compared to their more accomplished younger siblings or being mocked by their older siblings' friends. They quick learned that the best way to survive is to fade into the background and let people more powerful than them cover their back.

At Night Raven College, when the word about Azul's wish-granting abilities spread out, Kalle came to him, offering his services in exchange for a safe and secure place in the school metaphorical food chain.

Just as smart and cunning as Azul and the twins, he follows Azul's orders blindly. Determined, methodical and good at planning. While he usually doesn't speak much, when he does, it's usually something sarcastic. He tends to say he has a low stupidity tolerance.

While they're good at keeping his cool and seeming indifferent to most things, inside they're a deeply emotional person who learned how to hide almost everything about themselves, including their opinions and interests.

Their signature spell is called Seaglass. It allows them to see through another person's eyes for up to 30 seconds at a time without the person knowing.

RELATIONSHIPS

Azul Ashengrotto — here's the thing, you see. Yes, Kalle admires his inteligence and magic powers and will do basically anything he says without hesitation. Does he actually like Azul as a person, though? Well. Sometimes, during the times when Kalle tries to not feel jealous of his magic or his place in the school's society. He tries to not think about Azul as a friend, though, trying to keep their relationship strictly business-like. (They're so friends.)

Floyd Leech — oh, boy. Their first meeting, still back in middle school, ended in a bit of a disaster, with Kalle losing his patience for once and yelling at Floyd. That made Flody think that maybe Kalle is somebody like Riddle — somebody easy to anger. Somebody fun. Unfortunately for Kalle, the fact that he actually has a great control of his emotion and rarely loses his cool only made Floyd more persistent. He wanted to push Kalle's buttons, see what exactly it is that sets him off, tests the limits of his patience. And well. It would be easier for Kalle if they could simply dislike Floyd. See him as simply lazy and chaotic and stupid, instead of noticing his intelligence and the ability to see through people and feeling drawn to his antics. They often argue, though it had long lost any fire and now sounds more like friendly bickering and if they sometimes make out in the hallways— that's Kalle's bussines, alright.

Jade Leech — probably the only person from the Octavinelle trio that Kalle has a simple, straightforward relationship with. They're friends, in their own weird way. Neither of them has the need to pry into the other's affairs but they feel comfortable in eachother's presence and Kalle shares Jade's interest in different land flora.

Kalim Al-Asim — easily one of Kalle's most disliked people at school. He doesn't know what it is about Kalim that wears his patience so thin so quickly and he doesn't want to find out, preferring to stay as away from the boy as possible.

Jamil Viper — in another universe, those two maybe could be friends. Sadly, for now Kalle spends most of the time observing Jamil with suspicion, not trusting anything he does. They're also — most importantly, very embarrassingly — just a bit jealous of the way Azul tried to befriend Jamil. But that's a secret.

Rook Hunt — if Kalle could ask a genie for one wish, it would be for Rook Hunt to finally shut up. Sadly, there's no genies nearby and so Kalle has to suffer through every Science Club meeting. Even more tragic, Rook seems to know a lot about about a lot of different things Kalle finds interesting and so they make the same mistake everytime, agreeing to help Rook with a club project only to regret it after, when he has to listen to the boy talk about sunsets or Vil’s eyes for two hours.

Trey Clover — he's not sure if he and Trey are friends, but Kalle likes him. Buenas, aquí dejo el siguiente reto del #RedPhoneCatober.

Tenia que elegir a un yandere y en honor a un amigo elegí a Flody Leech de Twisted Wonderlad

Creo que será el único reto de ropa que Cato no sufrirá por su complexión. Bueno voy a ir al grano y les dejo con el escrito.

Era temprano, y tras hacer mis rutinas de la mañana, estaba lista para sacar mi lista de tareas. Hoy iba sola ya que Cato, había estado trabajando.

Era importante que descansara, además aprovechando, que alguna de las tareas era fuera de casa, podría darme un paseo.

Hacia un clima agradable, ya llegaba el otoño y todo había pasado de colores intensos a gradualmente volverse tonos naranjas y marrones de distintas tonalidades. Me encantaba la ropa de entretiempo.

Iba con mi lista, la cual decía que necesitaba: comprar unas cosas para la nevera, ir a por unas telas, recoger unos paquetes en correos e ir a la tintorería.

Intente dejar para el final las cosas que implicaba cargar con cosas en los brazos.

-Creo que me excedí con las tareas. Puede que me cueste llevarlo todo yo sola.

Dije mientras iba distraída con la bolsa de la compra, las telas y las cosas de correos en un bolso grande, que uso para el trabajo.

Lo peor iba ser la tintorería, ya empezaba a sentir algo de cansancio, así que iba algo distraída.

Miro mi numero de pedido, y en una de esas, casi me da un infarto al sentir alguien a mi lado.

Era un chico, que perfectamente podría tener la altura de mi rommie.

La verdad era difícil no mirarlo, ya que era muy llamativo y no me refería solo a su altura.

Su cabello entre verde azulado con aquel mecho negro a un lado colgando, los ojos bicolores entre dorado y marrón.

Tenia puesto un traje negro bastante elegante, con una camisa lila, accesorios como un sombrero estilo panama negro, con un detalle en forma caracola en la cinta, una bufanda gris y una pajarita blanca.

Estas dos ultimas colgando de su cuello y hombros. Dándole a esa ropa elegante un aire informal por no llevarla bien abotonada.

Fue subir mi mirada curiosa y ver que el extraño me devolvía la mirada. Su cara paso de una expresión aburrida a una sonrisa que me provoco escalofríos, al dejar a la vista unos dientes afilados.

Algo dentro de mi sintió pánico, aunque internamente intentaba tranquilizarme:

-(Calma Fortune, solo te ha sonreído. No ha hecho nada malo para que...¿Por qué me mira fijamente?)

Pensaba mientras claramente en mi mirada se veía mi miedo. Y no sabia porque esto solo provoco en el extraño su sonrisa se ensanchara mas.

- (En serio porque este tío parece sacado de una peli de terror. Socorro, quiero irme.)

Le aparte la mirada y nunca fui tan feliz de escuchar mi numero como en ese instante.

Sin perder el tiempo fui al mostrador, agarre la bolsa, dando mi tiquet y salir como alma perseguida por el diablo.

No me atreví a mirar atrás, pero si que escuche una risa que no me fastidies claramente sonaba psicópata.

No se que me era peor el terror que me había provocado o el enfado que creció en mi.

-(Se esta riendo de mi, ¡Cretino! Ojala no volver a verlo).

Sonó mi teléfono, era Matías. Este me pregunto como estaba y le hice resumen de como me fue. Hasta que le dije todo lo que había hecho aun sin mencionar el encuentro desagradable.

Empezó a reñir me, porque no podía llevar todo eso sola. Y sin darme oportunidad me exigió saber donde estaba para pasar a recogerme.

No tardo mucho en aparecer con su coche. Era como ver a una padre recogiendo a su hija adolescente. Aparco para que descargaba mientras me miraba de forma desaprobatoria.

-En serio, Fortune ¿Cómo pretendías llevar todo eso a pie, tu sola a tu casa?- Me dijo con el ceño fruncido.

-Con fuerza de voluntad.-Dije con convicción. La mirada de mi mejor amigo dejaba ver que no estaba para bromas. Suspire algo resignada.- Vale, simplemente no quería molestar a nadie. Ademas técnicamente es mi responsabilidad.- Dije con un tono mas bajito. Escuche el suspiro de Matías.

-Me quemas el teléfono a mensajes para cosas estúpidas y para lo importante no. ¿Me recuerdas porque somos amigos?

-Mmm no creo que tenga nada que ver que aun con mis mierdas también me aprecias. ¿Si no porque has sido tan rápido en llegar?- Matías no hace comentarios.

-Oye en serio, ¿no podías llamar a tu Gato?, fijo que si se lo pides habría venido encantado.-Dice divertido. Yo me sonrojo y no dudo en saltar en su defensa con los brazos cruzados.

-Para tu información, se llama Cato, C A T O no Gato. Ya sabes que no le gusta que lo llamen así.

-Depende quien lo diga- Sonríe con soberbia sabiendo de alguna forma que eso era cierto.

-...sigue estando mal.-Le riño

-No lo negaste- Contrataca Mati.

-Y si no le pedí ayuda es porque esta durmiendo. Se paso la noche trabajando. No le voy a despertar por eso.

No tardamos en llegar a mi casa. Para mi sorpresa para cuando llegamos Cato ya estaba despierto. Lo peor de todo fue verlo por primera vez uniéndose a Matías en nuestra apoyando la postura de mi mejor amigo. Nunca creí ver a esos dos a liarse contra mi.

Tras una pequeña visita no tardo en irse Mati y quedarnos solos. Llego la noche estaba en el sofá jugando con mi portátil hasta que escucho a Cato llamarme.

Me giro y casi se me va el alma cuando veo a Cato pero llevaba la misma ropa del tío creepy de la tintorería. Joder incluso le venia bien. Por un lado, joder que sexy se veía Cato con un traje, pero que fuera la misma que aquel sujeto me provocaba sentimientos conflictivos.

-¿Dulzura de donde sacaste esto?- Claramente Cato estaba confuso.- ¿Es alguna clase de indirecta?

-No no no no. Quiero decir estas...estas bien...pero yo fui hoy a la tintorería… Había un tío creepy... Yo solo quería irme de allí. Debí mirar la bolsa antes de irme. Perdón Cato.- Hablaba a trompicones.

-Tio creepy? -Se sentó en el sofá. Poniendo una mirada algo fría. Esperando que diera mas detalles. Suspiro porque me sentía aun tonta por ello pero también puede que si se lo decía a Cato pudiera desahogarme.

-Bueno te acuerdas que estuve haciendo recados. Pues el otro día había dejado varias cosas para limpiar en la tintorería. Una de tus chaquetas que tanto te gustan tenia una mancha que no sabia quitar. Hoy tenia que ir a recogerlo todo. Pues mientras esperaba había un imbécil que no paraba de mirarme fijamente. Incluso llego a reírse. No me hizo nada pero no quise estar mas tiempo del necesario a su lado. Cogí la bolsa y le deje atrás. Lo peor...creo que me lleve su ropa.

Cato escucho todo en silencio sin cambiar la cara. Me era raro ver a mi compañero así.

-Lo recojo yo.

-¡No! Lo haré yo...no soy una cobarde- Digo con convicción aun teniendo en mi mente a ese extraño riéndose.- No le tengo miedo.

-¿Quieres ir sola?- Claramente la posibilidad no le gustaba a Cato. Y yo recordando al extraño tampoco era la cita de mis sueños. Me escurro hacia Cato.

-Puede que necesite algo de apoyo moral. Tu presencia tiene un efecto relajante.-No quería acobardarme pero apreté la mano acompañada de una mirada de suplica silenciosa. Cato suavizo la expresión y beso mi mejilla.

-No te puedo dejar sola. Y se que eres valiente pero no tienes por eso hacer las cosas sola.

Me voy a la cama feliz sabiendo que da igual a lo que me enfrentara con Cato a mi lado todo iría bien.
