130 Reasons Why I'm Fairy Trash
💙 Blue Train Arc
(July 2016 - Ongoing)
"You know, I heard it said that our counterparts have become romantically involved over on the other side. They're supposedly beginning courtship. It may progress." "It could." "So of course, it stands to reason that if their relations were to become physically intimate, that means you and I would eventually have to, um…" "I reckon we would."
- Drama, Angst, & Fluff
- Prompts related to Anti-Cosmo and/or Anti-Wanda
- Foop is here too, but his arc is in Lavender Train
Summary
Anti-Cosmo and Anti-Wanda have always had their ups and downs. At least they love each other. Their newborn son - who just deposed the previous heir they were raising - is quite a handful, but that just means there's more of him to love! It's not easy to run Anti-Fairy World while making time for their kids and each other, but they do the best they can.

He wasn't strong enough to hold back the choked sob, his tears saturating her hair and face and his heart crushed. The realisation that he's not just losing one beloved person in his life, but in fact it was two all along drove him insane.
"I'm so sorry for making you cry, mon Chaton Noir," She was hushed with a finger against her lips and his head shaking upon hers, a silent scold to prevent her from blaming herself (and an unconscious beg for her to not utter another word). Ladybug took a shuddering deep breath and then came out with it. "My name is Marinette Dupain-Cheng...and I'm dying from a magical curse..."
(A reckless decision proves to become Marinette's downfall as she's plagued with the side-effects after activating so many miraculous at the same time during the battle against Chaussures de Kwamis. Now, her life is at death's door and she tries her best to accept it as karma for her actions. Her partner on the other hand? He refuses to back down without a fight. He'll do anything, everything to find a way for her to get better and to live the life she deserves).

The Surprise (Better When I’m Dancing)
Summary:  During the latest season of Dancing With the Stars, Regina starts to feel overly tired and not well. Both she and Robin worry that something may be wrong - beyond an infuriating partner.
Chapter 1: FFN | AO3 | Wattpad
Chapter 7: The Reveal
FFN | AO3 | Wattpad
Excerpt:
"And so our final four are set," August announced. "Join us next week to find out who will take home the mirrorball trophy - Ralph and Ruby, Moana and Killian, Steve and Merida or Charlotte and Jacob. For now, let's say goodbye to Alice and Walsh!"
Regina clapped as she stood in the skybox, still dressed in a pink outfit from her samba with Charlotte and Jacob. Walsh led his partner to the center of the floor and they danced as the finalists crowded around them to say goodbye. The band continued to play even as the cameras went dark and the show's live broadcast ended.
"One more week," Tink said, sighing next to Regina. "I can't believe it's almost over."
"I know. Though a few weeks ago, I thought it would never end," Regina replied. "It's amazing how things can change in a short timeframe."
Ursula chuckled. "It's amazing how one person can change everything."
"That is true," Tink said. "Look at how different working on the show felt once Gold was gone."
"It definitely has been better," Thomas agreed. "Honestly, Percy was really the only bump we've experienced since then. But he certainly dragged the whole mood down this season before he left."
Regina nodded before frowning. "He's not coming back for the finale, right?"
Everyone grew quiet before Anna said: "They wouldn't dare, right? Not after everything he said and did."
"No," Ursula replied, sounding confident. "Isaac might have done that but Nimue absolutely wouldn't."
"That is true," Tink agreed, looking relieved. "Of course Nimue cares about ratings but she wouldn't stoop that low to get them."
Regina relaxed as she nodded again. "You're right. Nimue at least has integrity and cares about us."
"What are we talking about?" Killian asked as the finalists returned to the skybox. He placed his hands on his hips and looked around, waiting for someone to answer his question.
"The possibility of Percy coming back for the finale," Greg said. "General consensus is that Nimue will not stoop that low, even for ratings."
Killian nodded. "I agree with that consensus. But what about the network?"
"The network isn't going to push for Percy to be on either," Charlotte said. "From what I've heard, his career is done."
"Really?" Merida moved closer to her. "Who did you hear that from?"
Everyone gathered around Charlotte, who basked in the attention. She had a heart of gold but Regina knew she loved the spotlight. At least she did try to use it for good and to promote worthwhile causes.
Or gossip, like she was doing now.
"I have a friend who works on his show," she replied. "Or should I say, his old show. He's pretty much been fired from it but the network hasn't announced it yet."
"Ooh," Tink said. "I love it when karma gets bad people."
Steve chuckled. "It does feel good, huh?"
Anna gave Charlotte's arm a little shake. "Did your friend tell you anything else?" she asked.
"Well, she said that Percy wasn't always that obnoxious," Charlotte continued. "She said that during the first season, he was really sweet and everyone enjoyed working with him. Then he came back for the second season and he was completely different. He was conceited and obnoxious as well as spewing all that misogynistic nonsense. They don't know who he hung out with during the hiatus but it was clear he fell in with the wrong crowd."
"I think I have an idea of which crowd that might be," Steve said, sighing. "They tried to recruit me too."
Merida frowned, turning to her partner. "What group is that?"
"So-called Men's Rights Advocates," he replied. "Might even be white supremacists. They talked tough but when I threatened to kick their asses, they went running away like the punks they are."
"Figures," she said, rolling her eyes before turning back to Charlotte. "So are they killing him off?"
Charlotte shrugged. "They're still debating that. I think they're leaning toward that to close the door on any chance of him returning. From what I understand, they've temporarily written him off by having his character go out of town for an extended period."
Steve nodded. "Classic move. That will give them some time to figure out what they want to do but gets him off set."
"Do you think his career is over?" Moana asked, looking wide-eyed between the older contestants and dancers.
"I'd love to say yes, but I've seen people come back from worse," Steve replied, sighing. "I guess we're just going to have to see what happens."
Regina sighed as well. "Just as long as he doesn't try to come back to this show. I don't think we can deal with him for even five more minutes. At least, I know I can't."
Anna nodded. "Same here."
"Are you all having fun without us?" August asked, coming into the skybox with Belle. "We're all wondering why you haven't come down yet."
"We got lost in our conversation," Tink said. "Do you think they'll bring Percy back for the finale?"
Both looked horrified and Belle shook her head. "Absolutely not. Nimue will not do that to any of us, least of all to you, Regina."
"The fans will absolutely riot if you are forced to spend even one more minute with that pompous asshole," August said. "And I think Nimue is more scared of them than she is of the network."
Regina chuckled as the image of her royal court chasing Nimue across the lot played in her mind. "I would be too," she said.
"So, are you all ready to head down now?" August asked, pointing to the stairs back down to the dance floor. "Or else they may send a search party out for us."
"Okay, okay," Walsh said, rolling his eyes. "We'll head down."
August nodded, helping Belle down the stairs in her heels. The other dancers and the remaining stars followed them. Charlotte hung back and linked her arm with Regina. "Thank you for being part of our samba tonight. I really learned a lot from you and I think it helped push me into the finals," she said.
"I was happy to work with you," she said. "You're the first woman to complete my hip boot camp."
"Ooh," Charlotte replied, clapping her hands. "I feel so honored."
Regina chuckled. "You should be."
Nimue met everyone on the dance floor. "Congratulations to our finalists! I'm going to ask the stars to return to wardrobe so they can take off your costumes. Pros, I need you to stay so we can discuss the finale."
"We'll see you all soon!" Moana said, waving to everyone as she and the other stars left the ballroom.
"Alright," Nimue said, clapping her hands to get their attention again. "Another season is almost over. Next week is the finals so give yourselves a hand for making it through the past ten weeks!"
Regina joined the others in clapping. When they stopped, Nimue continued. "But I have a big announcement. Next week will be the finale but it won't be our last show of the season," she said.
That surprised everyone and Regina frowned as Killian asked: "What do you mean?"
"I just received word that the network is going to have some free time on the schedule and they want us to do a holiday episode," Nimue said. "There's going to be others involved but we're going to carry the bulk of it."
"Wow," Tink said. "What are we going to do?"
Nimue shrugged. "We're still putting that together. But our plan is to feature the finalists and maybe invite some past contestants back as well."
Anna nudged Regina. "Does this mean you'll get to dance with Robin again?"
"Maybe," Regina said, knowing that the show loved to pair them up as much as they loved dancing together. "I guess we'll have to see."
"So, we'll be continuing rehearsals for a few more weeks," Nimue said. "And we'll tell you more when we know it. Thank you for your attention, go ahead and get ready to head home. You all deserve a good night's sleep."
Everyone clapped and headed toward the backstage area. As Regina walked past, Nimue gently grabbed her arm. "Can we talk for a moment?" she asked.
Regina nodded, motioning for the others to go on without her. "What's up?" she asked.
"Why don't we go somewhere more private?" Nimue suggested. "We'll also get that microphone off you."
"Alright," Regina said, following her backstage. She wondered if her question had something to do with Regina's pregnancy - it was the only topic that would require such secrecy at that moment.
Once the microphone was off, Nimue ushered Regina into a small room. She closed the door before saying: "I wanted to talk with you about your pregnancy," she said.
"I figured," Regina replied. "What about it?"
"Have you and Robin given any thoughts about how and when you're announcing your pregnancy?" she asked.
That surprised Regina before she realized that would be another way this pregnancy would be different from her first one. She and Daniel only had to tell their family and friends back then. Now, she and Robin would also have to tell the world - especially their fans. And she saw other celebrity announcements so she knew they couldn't just release a press release. They would have to do something a bit more personal than that.
"No," she said. "We haven't. Why?"
"I was just wondering if you wanted to announce it next week or if you had plans to do so later," Nimue said. "There's no pressure if you don't want to announce it on live TV. I just want to be prepared in case you do want to do it on the show."
Regina nodded, not sure if that was the route she and Robin wanted to take - even after getting engaged on the show. "I think I need to talk it over with Robin," she said.
"Of course," Nimue said. "And I'm sure you've already guessed that we're going to reach out to see if Robin wants to be on the holiday special."
"I had a feeling," Regina replied, nodding.
Nimue chuckled. "He is a favorite. Everyone loves him - us producers, the fans and the studio."
"He's very lovable," Regina said, feeling a bit cheeky. "I can definitely attest to that."
"Yes, you can," Nimue agreed. She then gently squeezed Regina's shoulder. "I'll let you go get undressed. I'm sure you want to get home. Just talk it over with Robin and let me know by Friday what your plans are so we can be prepared."
Regina nodded, knowing that was more than fair. "I will," she promised.
"Have a good night, Regina," Nimue said, opening the door so Regina could leave. She wished Nimue the same before stepping out and heading to the costume department. Then she would get ready and finally head home.
She couldn't wait.

…………………………………………………………………
It happened again when they were in surgery together. Alex was on stand by monitoring the baby, while Jo was assisting Addison in a fetal surgery. They were taking the tumor out of an unborn baby. Alex enjoyed this, as he barely got to do surgery with his wife, much less observe her in her own surgery. But Jo adored Addison and wanted to learn as much as she could from the renowned surgeon.
“Right there Karev, just delicately cut the last strand holding the tumor,” Addison instructed as Jo made the cut.
“That’s it,” Jo asked looking up at Addison as she pulled out the tumor from the tiny baby’s abdomen.
“That's perfect, you have very steady hands and excellent technique,” Addison said with a nod of approval.
“Thank you,” Jo beamed as placed the tumor on the tray.
“I can see a great future in fetal surgery if that’s what you want?” Addison added, looking over at Jo with a raised eyebrow. “Gray was telling me that before you went into OB, you were her protégé of sorts.”
“Well, I don't know about that,” Jo said modestly as she looked back at the baby to hide her blush.
“She's lying. She was Meredith’s second in everything and she was one of the best general surgeons in the hospital, probably even the country. Did I tell you she was the first surgeon to successfully do an ALPPS procedure on the West Coast?” Alex said with a smile, he was always proud of his wife.
“You didn’t,” Addison said as she looked over at Jo with a raised eyebrow.
Although, Jo’s pink blush turned a bright red that peeked out under her mask as it spread to her neck. “I loved general surgery and I was a good surgeon, but during the pandemic, everything changed. I got pulled into a delivery a few days after I found out I was pregnant. It was such a joyous occasion and it gave me a bit of happiness back at work. From then on I made the choice to chase joy and so here I am.”
“Well, I'm glad you found your joy. We need more good OBs like you,” Addison said earnestly.
“Thank you,” Jo said, her blush evident in her voice as she even giggled a little bit. Alex had to remind himself to tease her later for her obvious crush on Addison.
“And now you’re surrounded by babies day and night,” Addison said with a knowing smile as they started to stitch up the baby. “Alex tells me you two have two toddler girls and another baby girl on the way.”
“We don’t know for sure if it’s a girl, but yeah, babies are my life these days,” Jo added, lightly glaring at Alex. It was their current petty argument as they both agreed to wait until the baby was born to find out the gender.
“Our track record and my karma says otherwise,” Alex reminded her as she rolled her eyes.
“I'm sure you make a good girl Dad Karev,” Addison said, in a teasing tone as she looked up at him.
“He does,” Jo said as she and Addison shared a giggle.
“Well that's it for baby, let’s close,” Addison said as she delicately tucked the baby back into their mother's belly as Jo removed all of their monitors and the IV that had kept them still during the surgery. “Would you like to do the honors Karev?”
“I’d love to,” Jo said as she and Addison switched positions.
“Alright, then I'll leave you to it, but meet me for lunch. I'd love to discuss your future in fetal surgery,” Addison said as she watched Jo suture.
“Why don't you, Jake, and Henry come over for dinner tomorrow?” Alex proposed as Addison paused. “I'll smoke that brisket I've got in the fridge and we can enjoy the start of summer before you go back to California?”
“You barbecue?” Addison asked as she raised an eyebrow at him.
“Well smoking a piece of meat is different,” Alex began to explain before Jo cut him off.
“Don't even get him started, he'll talk for hours about different woods and smoke flavors,” Jo said, with a gentle shake of her head.
“It makes a difference, but yes I do barbecue too, why?” Alex asked, tilting his head.
“Nothing, I just have to call Callie and tell her she was right, you're a suburban dad,” Addison said with a smile as she and Jo laughed and even Alex had to chuckle because it was true. “But I’d love to have smoked meat or whatever at your house tomorrow night.”
“Sounds good,” Alex agreed as his mind wandered and he started preparing the meal in his head.
“I’ll see you both then,” Addison said, as she stripped off her gown and gloves.
“Well, I guess my job here is done,” Alex said standing up, although he was reluctant to go.
“You can stay if you want Dr. Karev,” Jo said, looking over at him with flirting eyes.
“Well, if you insist, Dr. Karev,” Alex said as he sat back down.
Addison looked between the two of them and shook her head with a chuckle. “Who knew that Alex Karev would be so whipped for his wife.”
Jo laughed as she agreed. “I know, he's so cute, especially when he stares at me.”
“I don't stare at you,” Alex said, crossing his arms.
“Yes, you do,” both Addison and Jo said as they looked at each other and giggled.
“Well I can’t help it,” Alex said as he changed tune and played along with them. “I've got a beautiful wife and it's nice to admire her.”
“Are they always like this?” Addison whispered to Bookeh.
“Yes,” Bokhee responded as the rest of the OR laughed.
“At least they’re not as bad as Meredith and Derek,” Addison said and Bokhee agreed with a nod.
Addison left to scrub out and Alex looked over the external monitors on the baby. Everything looked good and he went back to making the meal plan in his head. He figured he’d serve fresh sweet corn with coleslaw and cornbread. Except he didn’t know how to make the latter two, so he’d have to find a good store bought kind. Alternatively, he could find a good recipe, but he wasn’t sure if trying to bake was a good idea. Especially given his track record and Jo wasn’t a good baker either.
“Dr Karev?” one of the nurses asked, catching his attention.
He wasn't sure if they were talking to him or Jo, but as he looked up he saw all of them looking over at Jo. She had paused and was staring at her stitches. She held the needle as if she was about to continue, but her fingers were still. The feeling of ice being poured down his back hit him. Something was wrong. Alex put the monitor down and got up just as Jo's eyes fluttered and she swayed as she dropped her instruments.
“She's going to pass out,” Alex yelled as he raced to catch his wife just as she fainted and fell into his arms.
“Someone call for help!” Bokhee demanded as she took charge of the OR while the other nurses gathered around Jo.
“Addison!” Alex screamed as she rushed back in from the scrub room having seen what happened.
She quickly began to check Jo with her stethoscope, while the nurses took her BP and oxygen levels. Jo became the patient in the room, but all Alex could focus on was holding her as he rubbed his thumb on her cheek.
“Jo, Jo please,” Alex said, begging her to wake up while his mind raced with the worst case scenario of what could be wrong with his wife and child.
“Come on Alex, let's get her onto the gurney,” Addison said as Alex nodded and picked up Jo bridal style before he gently laid her on the second gurney that the nurse had brought in for her.
As the nurses and Addison rushed around her, they wheeled her out into the hall and over to a recovery room. Everyone else stared at her, but Addison pulled the curtains around them. Alex held Jo's hand and rubbed his thumb across her cheek. Every second they walked felt like an eternity. However, they were moving as fast as they could and the nurses buzzed around her. After what seemed like hours, but was most likely a few seconds later, Jo's eyes started to flutter as she came around.
“Oh thank God,” Alex said as he kissed her hand.
“What happened?” Jo asked her eyebrows knitted together as she looked around.
“You fainted, Dr. Karev,” Addison said as Jo looked over at her while she shined a light in Jo’s eyes.
“Oh no,” Jo said with a sigh as she looked at Alex, her eyes were still hazy.
“It's okay, you're okay,” Alex whispered, reassuring her as much as he was reassuring himself.
“How are you feeling now?” Addison asked as she looked down at Jo with concerned eyes.
“I'm feeling okay,” Jo said with a nod as she tried to sit up on her own, but quickly gave up and laid back against the bed.
“Please Jo, just take it easy,” Alex said, he knew she was trying to remain strong, but he could see how drained she was as she looked up at him with tired eyes.
“Alright, let's see what's going on with you and baby. Since this is your second time fainting in two weeks, I’d like to run a few tests,” Addison said as she and the nurses quickly ordered a few tests as they set up an IV and blood draw.
“I probably just overexerted myself again with the long surgery,” Jo said as she squeezed Alex's hand forcing him to truly look at her again as he stopped bouncing his leg. “I'm fine, you need to relax.”
“You are far too calm for someone who just fainted,” Alex said as he rubbed his sweaty palms on his scrub pants.
“Well, it's not like I haven't fainted before and it's always nothing. There's no reason to think otherwise this time around,” Jo said with a slight smile and no hint of worry in her eyes.
She relaxed back into the bed and let the nurses dote on her as they placed a warm blanket over her. They brought her a pack of crackers and juice, but she just sipped on the juice. They got her changed into a gown and set up with monitors and an IV. He hated that there was nothing he could do and his mind filled with worry. Yet, Jo was right, it was probably nothing.
Then Addison watched the monitor, grabbed her stethoscope again, and listened to Jo's heart. She truly listened for a second too long and looked down at her watch again. Then she moved to listen to the baby's heartbeat again, listening for longer than necessary. Alex perked up as he watched her face, looking for any sign of trouble.
Addison’s face betrayed nothing as usual. Then she looked up, catching his eyes, and flashed him a smile. It was one Alex had seen many times before, but it was fake and meant to reassure him while hiding the truth of her worry underneath. He could see her mind work on the next step, the next test, the next surgery his wife would need.
“Well everything sounds good, but I'd still like to do further labs to confirm, so hang tight,” Addison said as she stood up and gave Jo’s leg a pat.
Jo nodded, taking another sip of her juice, but Alex stood up, causing her to pause. “Addison, wait, you’re not telling us everything, are you?”
This caused Jo to pause and look over at him and Addison. He knew she was reading their faces and suddenly worry appeared in her eyes as she put a hand protectively over her baby.
“What is it?” Jo asked Addison, demanding answers.
“It's probably nothing,” Addison said, trying to reassure them but Alex hated that. He hated when doctors did that which was why he respected those who didn't.
“That's bullshit, Addison. We're not normal patients, we're doctors just like you. We know all the tricks that you use to reassure a patient before you know what’s going on. Something's wrong and you know it, so just tell us, please,” Alex asked, his palms growing sweaty, but he didn't dare let go of Jo's hand and she squeezed his hand harder.
Addison nodded and took a deep breath before she sat down on the stool. The nurses that had gathered around them left and Addison looked them in the eyes. “Jo, you have an arrhythmia. I'm not sure what causes it or what it could mean. However, I've also noticed your other symptoms, like your swollen feet and ankles, and your labored breathing, even while you're lying here. I don’t know what it means, but I'd like Maggie to consult.”
“So there’s something wrong with my heart?” Jo asked as she started to tear up and Alex squeezed her hand as Jo looked at him.
“I believed so,” Addison said with a frown as she came over and sat on the bed, putting a hand over Jo’s on her belly.
“I'm sorry,” Jo said with a shaky breath as a few tears appeared in her eyes. “I thought that it was just normal pregnancy symptoms. I mean I'm carrying a Karev sized baby and I can't really see my feet, but I knew they were huge. Still, I didn't think too much of it. And they’ve been pressing on my ribs so I figured that's why I couldn't breathe and I didn't notice my heart rate....”
Jo broke out into a sob and she turned into him as Alex wrapped his arms around her and just held her. “Hey, it's not your fault. I didn’t notice it either. Besides, you're not supposed to think of all the bad things that could cause your systems.”
“Alex is right, and as you said, you think about them kicking your ribs and how much your feet ached, not that it meant something was wrong. Worrying about your symptoms is my job,” Addison said as she reached out and rubbed Jo’s back. “Carina and I are your doctors and we're going to take good care of you and your baby, Jo, I promise.”
Jo nodded as she looked over at him as he gave her a reassuring smile despite how scared he was. Jo nodded as she calmed down and he gave her a few tissues before Addison got up. “I’m going to have you moved to a room on the maternity ward. In the meantime, try and distract yourselves and think about what you're going to serve for the barbecue tomorrow, okay?”
Addison gave them a slight smile as she picked up a food magazine and handed it to him. They both nodded as Addison left, and Alex looked over at Jo. She had tears in her eyes, ones he was holding back as well. As soon as the curtain closed, Jo broke down into tears and Alex followed her as they cried. Jo tugged on his hand, pulling him into bed with her. She shuffled to the side and he reached out to put his arms around her and hold her as she tucked herself against him.

“How does it feel to have such obsession for someone live rent free in your mind while I’m out living my life?” how the fuck are you living your life? 😂 you’re 29 and on here for hours 😂 couldnt even stay away for 24 hours 😂 do you not have a fucking job? shouldnt you be spending time with your bf or does he not exist? 😂 do you not have any friends outside here?😂 i can see why a little bit of attention feels complentary. no one around you gives you any 😂 if you died no one would care! 😂😂
Newsflash: person who lives alone spends time on social media talking to friends! In other news at 11, water is wet.
I don’t have to explain myself to you, that’s the best part of all. But your last sentence is factually inaccurate. I know I’m loved by some amazing, wonderful people both who I’ve met here and who I know in the meat space. I know that when I was really sick last year this lovely community that we have gathered around me and supported me when I was going through it.
I know that people care because I trust them to be honest with me. A group of assholes who enjoy hiding behind blank avatars and sending hate to multiple people (because don’t think I haven’t seen the FFN shit that’s been happening too) isn’t worth me stressing. At this point sharing what you’re sending us more fun than anything else. Plus, as Taylor says. Karma’s a relaxing thought.

to have and to hold
pairing: marlon/marnie (stardew valley) rating: T words: 3.0k
summary: Everyone remembers Mayor Lewis and the infamous purple shorts incident. At the time, Marlon even cracked a smile at the Farmer's audacity, watching as Lewis offered an underhanded bribe to take his undergarments off the Stardew Valley Fair display. But now that Marlon finds himself in a similar predicament, he can't help feeling like this is karma. (ao3 / ffn)
I've been wanting to write this pairing for a while! I'm glad I finally sat down and did it :) Onto the next letter of the alphabits series

grievous mistake
Yet another old Cherik drabble, set during that scene in First Class…! D:
Fic: "grievous mistake" [FFN] [AO3]
Pairings/Characters: Erik Lehnsherr/Charles Xavier, with a cameo from Moira MacTaggert
Rating: K+
Words: ~520
Additional info: romance, slash, angst, 3rd person POV
Summary: Just when Erik thought he had everyone on his side, karma happens. But karma only affects evildoers…right?
A shout—not quite a scream, but more than a measly yelp—came from behind Erik, and he momentarily froze.
Only one person had been so closely behind him.
Time seemed to slow down as Erik turned and saw Charles reaching for him, his face contorted with pain. Erik watched in horror as Charles fell to his knees, and the metal magician cursed all the powers that be that his feet refused to carry him faster than a light-year to his friend's side. But he did catch Charles, and he cradled his head in his lap.
"Charles—Charles—Charles—" Gott in Himmel, he couldn't even get past his name! This was bad, this was very bad, and this—Erik snapped his head up and barked at Moira, "This is your fault! You were shooting at me!"
Moira's face crumpled, but she said nothing.
Erik looked down at Charles, who cupped his cheek. "Charles…"
It was hard for Charles to breathe. "Erik, we both know…it wasn't…her fault…" Charles took a deep breath. "It…it was yours…"
The metal magician fought his sobs as he pressed his forehead against Charles'. "Yes… I'm sorry, I'm sorry, I'm sorry…!" After all, Erik had been deflecting her bullets, sending them flying in many different directions—but he hadn't meant for this to happen!
Charles gave him a wan smile. "I… I'll be all right, Erik…"
      "But you—"
      "…it's my back…"
Another wave of regret hit Erik. "I'm sorry, I'm sorry, I'm sorry…," he whispered.
"Erik…" Charles turned his face in towards Erik's chest. "Erik, please…"
"Ich liebe Dich," the taller man breathed. He hadn't said those words in…forever, it felt. But he also felt he'd never meant them more. "Ich liebe Dich, Charles. Ich liebe Dich." He didn't care that the others could hear his words—no one else here spoke German. Yet Erik knew the telepath could hear his screaming thoughts. Hell, Charles might've even studied some German once upon a time, the busy little bookworm he was.
      "…I know."
Erik held on to Charles more tightly, hoping this was all a very bad dream. It was so damn cliché to confess your true feelings at such a dire moment!
      "Erik…"
      "…I'm sorry, I'm sorry, I'm sorry…"
      "…me, too…"
Erik paused, his vision blurry as he looked into Charles' eyes. He saw regret in them, too—but for wha—?
      "Ich…liebe Dich…"
The metal magician went cold. How had it come to this? Charles—his closest friend…his only friend…and now they both knew the truth. But at what cost? This…this wasn't going to work. Not with Erik around, being the cause of Charles' problems and annoyances.
Charles was better off without him.
Erik cleared his face of his emotions and put Schmidt's—his, now—helmet back on, and motioned for Moira. Moira took his place and Erik prepared to leave, beckoning to the few others who had decided to join him.
Yes, Charles was better off without him. Moira should take his place.
      …
But could she? Erik still thought to this day that that was his biggest mistake.
Awwr. :( Sooo sad… I love Cherik…! I hated that ending, with Erik leaving his side… I guess this turned into a thoughtful look at the scene on his part. Oh, and "Ich liebe Dich" is German for "I love you." A little tacky/cliché, I guess, but still…! And "Gott in Himmel" is "God in Heaven." :)
Thanks for reading, and feel free to leave an anon/unsigned review via the FFN link or comment via the AO3 link at the top of the post, especially if you enjoyed this!
~mew
2022 note: Oh, jeez. This 2011 fic just…yep. I still agree with my A/N, but coming back to this to edit (just a bit) and it strikes me more that, if they had professed their love or smthg, Erik's departure would've hurt a looooot more. So have some feels. ;w;

Through Rocks and Snow Ch. 13 - Mirror Temple
FFN: https://www.fanfiction.net/s/14146784/13/Through-Rocks-and-Snow
AO3: Through Rocks and Snow - Chapter 13
13. Mirror Temple
Prompt: Reward
Madeline didn’t believe in karma, or whatever name one gave it to things outside their control.
Karma, retribution, cosmical intervention, odds, luck.
Except when it was bad luck.
If good things happened to her, it was mere luck followed by guilt. If bad things happened to her, she deserved it.
Madeline couldn’t see through the fallacies of her thinking. For if she believed bad things happened to her for a reason, it was nothing but the reward of her actions or inactions.
If she learned anything so far, was that the mountain amplified whatever problem she had.
She worried something would go awry at the gondola and the mountain infested her mind with the worst-case scenario, only ending when Theo pulled her out of her crap, and now she found herself in a temple that would make the gondola incident look like a roller coaster in comparison.
It was irrational, she was aware. But she didn’t choose to climb the mountain to be rational; she chose to be mindful in mindless matters.
Method to madness, as Theo told Madeline at the resort when she said she wanted to help Oshiro, since apparently she knew enough of ignoring one’s problems.
it was all the same, it all lead her to the same ending. Ignorance or unawareness. Or worse, willing ignorance. Choosing to stay in the dark, such as Madeline was doing stepping into the temple, following Theo when she knew she shouldn’t, but as she did, Madeline intellectualize her way through like a bot in a game, mechanically and logically acting for the best outcome.
Reference point. Eyes sharp. Ears even sharper. Careful steps. Mental map.
All as fast as her mind could think. No room for second thoughts—despite she used her mind at high efficiency.
All for being mindful in a mindless situation.
Madeline didn’t catch the fact she could only carry on for so long before she got distracted and her act fell apart, either by herself or by something else. Which one would be worse was hard to choose.
She didn’t get lost before she knew it, on the contrary, she knew she was, and just like she feared she didn’t know when she got lost.
When did that happened, again?
What was her line of thought?
Madeline had…forgotten. Mind had slipped away.
Now she was left alone in some dismal corner of this place, with the occasional drop of water echoing through chambers from somewhere beyond her reach as her only company.
This was her reward for her actions, her own stupidity if she will, and of course she would. Madeline’s talent to do the best of efforts and gain little, next to nothing, shone the most now.
She couldn’t even cradle herself at this occasion with the thought of “nothing ventured, nothing gained.” For Madeline ventured way too much. All calculated risks, she told herself, but man, she was bad at math.
Her roaming eventually led her to find Theo’s smartphone on the ground, next to a large mirror. Although she saw her actual reflection for the first time since she stepped into the mountain, a shiver ran down her spine.
Her mind roamed into the worst-case scenario at once again, all in order to be always prepared, not knowing her restless mind was the very thing that set her off. Madeline was her own cause and consequence. That thought tasted not unfamiliar on her tongue, and left a bittersweet flavor on it she tried to dissipate by swallowing heavily.
She picked up his smartphone and saw if there was anything she could help her find Theo, but Madeline could do little more than stare at Theo’s smartphone with the same curiosity the blue bird had that she found earlier at the mountain.
Or the bird found her?
She used it as a flashlight before she returned it to Theo if she found him.
“When I find him.” Madeline corrected herself, forcing herself to believe in that outcome. She could not believe in anything else. Madeline chose to turn a blind eye into the unthinkable. She turned away from the mirror to avoid seeing her reflection.
Just because she was mindful in mindless situations didn’t mean she couldn’t be mindless in mindful situations. Whatever approach she could take, it would lead her to the same reward, the temple would see to that.
The same constant drop of water still echoed through her ears and started to get on her nerves, but Madeline did not realize that drop would be soothing after she encountered the creatures lurking in the shadows in areas far ahead. Each one of its multiple eyes upon Madeline, annoyingly waiting.
Badeline felt her in the temple like a cricket in the middle of the night, she couldn’t wait to find where she actually was and made it shut up, once and for all.
And by “shut up” she meant dragging her ass out of this forsaken place.
For all the impulsiveness Madeline could have for noble actions with doubtful results, Badeline compensated it with patience for unhinging acts.
It may not be the most rational course of action, but Badeline believe this time would be different, solely based on the fact SHE was the one doing it this time, with plenty of experience gained from Madeline’s mistakes, as if that would allow Badeline to avoid them, unaware of the fact that if things were as they were, it was for a reason.
Understanding was still far from her grasp, and it would only come to her as soon as she tried to change it, and see she could not do so. Not when the objective she was aimed to was to make Madeline quit.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Well, this time it didn't take me a month to update. Hooray me.
About what I said at the previous chapter about Badeline's point of view, I believe it was the right decision Madeline had it here. Badeline's version of this chapter was a tad darker.
Also I have taken a decision about the word limit, and that is I will not let it limit me. I will let the chapters be as extensive as they need to be. If they have to be 2k word long, so be it.
I felt this chapter in particular to be little more than pure introspection. Though I said previously I wanted to avoid right that, I think it's fine now. I'm not thrilled to write about the Mirror Temple, it ironically leaves me in a darker spot to write than Celestial Resort did, but I think I can help myself with that by using the next chapters to solidify the topics I want to explore, which I hope I'm ilustrating appropriately.
I'm doubtful about what should be the next chapter, though judging the pattern of scenarios the chapters have, you should be able to give yourselves a hint about where things are going.
I think that's all for now. See ya.

When Karma Runs Over Your Dogma on AO3 / Why am I still linking to FFN?
I couldn't resist.
I don't know how long this one will end up being -- it won't be a longfic, as there is a fairly small time window in which its events can happen -- but it begins.
What I want from Season 6
S5 spoilers, obviously.
Wake up.
The voice was tiny and somehow distant, but also insistent.
Marinette struggled against it for as long as she was able, then opened her eyes, grudgingly-- --and jumped with a frightened yelp, retreating as far back on her bed as she was able!
Relax. I mean you no harm, the voice declared. As you can see, in this body, I am not sure how I could harm you if I meant to.
Goggle-eyed, Marinette processed the situation. "You're... a hamster," she gasped. "A real hamster, not a Kwami... and you're talking to me? Somehow?"
Mind-to-mind, it projected. Something I was accustomed to doing in my former existence, on occasion.
"Who or what ARE YOU?" Marinette demanded.
My Wish gave me precisely what I desired -- a reunion with my beloved wife, Emilie, she heard. A reunion for five short minutes. She was then whisked away from me, cruelly, and I was told that I owed five years of spiritual restitution before I would see her again.
She shook her head, overwhelmed by the implications. "You're... you're Gabriel AGRESTE in there?"
One and the same.
If a hamster was capable of displaying supreme annoyance, this one was.
Gimmi read my soul to know my desires, and the price that I would willingly pay. I was ready to surrender my life for Emilie. I was not ready for THIS... but here I am.
"I'm not dreaming this. I'm not," Marinette told herself. "So... what am I supposed to do with you?"
Apparently, Gimmi read your desires as well, it deadpanned. Your foremost desire, beyond peace and justice for all, was my son... but you had him already. Your second was a hamster.
It sniffed around her bed, tentatively.
So, I am now your private advisor, disturbingly enough. I assume that you will think of an appropriate name for me, as well as a reasonable place for me to sleep...
