A drabbled fic for @withthedoubleg because I can't get this scene out of my HEAD- (they didn't ask for it but I'm giving it to them shhh)
Warnings: Fire, arson (in a sense), death, emotionally scarring Joseph, blood, manipulation, swearing, depression, other stuff I probably missed (lmk so I can put it here!)
Ship: None
Prompt: None
"Is this your triumph?"
Long ago, he wouldn't have hesitated. He would've exclaimed from the mountainside "yes! This is my greatest triumph, look at this Eden God has provided for my people!"
But now, on his knees with palms raised to the sky as his hands had fallen on top of his legs, stared from the cliff down to the fires of New Eden. He couldn't say it now. Homes destroyed and burned, he had no idea where his Judge has gone or whether they were dead too.
His flock was surely all gone now too. Dead. All because his son was jealous.
Envious that he had allowed an outsider to taste the fruit of Eden.
His son wasn't saved either. None of the Seed family was and now he was the last...
Their only fault was that they were related to him one way or another and now he had to carry the burden of their deaths upon his shoulders. He was responsible, he led them to their demise.
But it certainly didn't help that the Voice was finally silent. God had abandoned him long ago he finally saw it. The Voice was nothing more than a fabrication of his own mind made so long ago when he was weak and vulnerable to be able to deal with trauma from when he was a child.
But it also didn't help that Randall, that sick demon bastard, had brought them to their demise. John was the first to be influenced by that twisted fuck before he'd taken Randall back. Fearful for Jacob and Faith...
And they were gone too, despite his attempts to protect them. Despite everything he'd done to take care of them.
And now Ethan, his poor son. It had been years since he'd seen Randall yet he looked no different, especially when he'd caught the man speaking to his son when he was just a boy.
Despite everything he tried, despite all he attempted to keep his son safe and away from Randall...
He gaze moved to the tree of Eden. Once something that saved his flock, now a mockery as he had put a flame to it with Ethan's body beside it.
Maybe he too will be consumed by the flames. A reprieve that God wouldn't give to him.
The man who caused so much trouble for him, for his family, moved to stand in front of him. A smile on his face.
And all Joseph could do was stare. The face of a devil that he now only saw solace in. God had abandoned him, but there was one constant in his life and even now, even when he had won wouldn't leave.
"... Save me from this nightmare. Please."
And those hands of Randall's moved to his cheeks. A mockery of their first meeting. He knew there was no warmth within this man or his actions.
And yet he felt comforted in the hold all the same.

So I know I reblogged this once before, but I came across it again and decided to write a thing based on it!I really hope this is ok!!!
Judgment Day
TW for Blood/unaliving someone/death/Trauma/manipulation
After all these years. They did nothing to help him.
It's not like Rook was abused, manipulated and forced into a bunker by Joseph Seed. They felt both the pain and anger in his heart. This was their fault. Their so-called friends that they wasted blood, sweat and tears on blame them.
And even Sharky refuses to even acknowledge their existence.
The pain he felt after finding that Ethan had been killed by the Captain, who loved him.
They could feel the anger they held down all these years finally start to rise. That's it. They were going to put an end to this once and for all. Even if it gets them killed. And God helps whoever gets in their way. Joseph was going to be reunited with his brothers and sister once more.
.
.
.
Judge stood in front of Joseph with a large hunting knife. They had a death grip on the knife as they glared at Joseph.
"Judge. It's going to be ok. But I recommend that you do not disobey me." Joseph's voice was firm. Judge froze, their breathing quickened. They shook, allowing the self to cry.
They fell to their knees, shaking. Joseph walked slowly towards his judge, kneeling down. He took them into his arms, cradling their head to his chest. Judge grabbed the knife, shoving Joseph away before thrusting the large blade into Joseph's chest, just barely nicking his heart. Joseph was frozen, tears falling from his beautiful eyes. Judge scoffed, shoving Joseph to the dirt ground. They lifted their mask to show their aged face. They spat at Joseph, waiting for Joseph to die.
They stood up, standing over The Father's body. They turned to leave, leaving the knife's blade buried in Joseph's chest as a reminder to not fuck with them.
Joseph Seed was dead. They finally lost it.
He's dead.
Joseph Seed is dead.
He's dead.
He's gone.
New Eden was done. New Eden was done. Any trace of Eden's Gate would be destroyed by the rogue judge.
End of part one
ok i’m so sorry but i have another fcnd fic idea and it is GNAWING at me:
y’all know how salty i am about the deputy/judge situation. yes? yes. ok, so the deputy is abused and manipulated and brainwashed and over all screwed around with by joseph seed for SEVENTEEN. FUCKING. YEARS. never mind the stockholm syndrome they’ve got by the bucketful, let’s talk about if they had a last little bit of hope left inside them, even as they put on the mask and became the judge. let’s imagine the pain in their heart when after years of imagining their old friends busting down the bunker door to retrieve them that doesn’t happen. let’s think about the betrayal they must suffer when they are led out into the new world and their old friends are just. chillin. yeah theyve got work to do, a world to rebuild but this is ROOK. the one person who is so ride or die the gfh can sure as hell count on them to blast through the fucking wasteland to come get them if the roles were reversed. and they spend all that time with seed thinking ‘yeah it’s bad now but tomorrow they’ll come for me. or the next day. or the day after that…’ and it just. doesn’t happen. and they’re left to realize that the people they loved, the ones they counted on for the same rescue and safety that the dep had provided them countless times just…decided they weren’t worth the effort. and now? now they look at the judge like theyre something alien; something other. something wrong. the gfh tell the judge they aren’t welcome anymore; maybe in not so many words but rook has always been a person of action and they can pick up on that shit in a second. the message is clear; ‘you are not one of us,’ the gfh are telling the judge, ‘you are one of them.’
‘they left me to rot,’ dep thinks.
‘i was torn apart,’ dep thinks.
‘i am not who i was,’ dep thinks.
‘they say im one of joseph seed’s,’ dep thinks. ‘its like im the bad guy now.’
‘ok,’ dep thinks. ‘thats fine.’
‘they want a villain? i’ll give them one.’
so they bide their time and after all is said and done: the highwaymen are taken care of and joseph seed is spared by the captain? then new eden is suddenly in ruins once again. joseph seed is found with a knife in his heart. there is chaos.
and slowly, so very slowly the gfh realize something they really should have seen coming: their judgement day has arrived.
and rook? well, they’ve always been particularly good at raising hell.
tldr: the salt queen is back and i am here to deliver the only concept for a villain/misunderstood dep/judge that i will accept and also a new idea for a dlc for fcnd. in other words, ubisoft hmu i got dlc for your dlc.

There's one thing I'm confused about when it comes to FC5: why are the peggies always actively trying to kill the deputy right from the start of the game? With all the effort the siblings put in trying to get the deputy to join their cause, especially John and Faith, and it seeming like Joseph wants them alive, it doesn't make sense to me that their followers were seemingly given orders to kill the deputy on sight if anyone saw them. The siblings all had multiple chances to kill the deputy themselves but didn't attempt to until they had no other choice. But right from the start of the game, as soon as you get out of the helicopter crash unarmed, the peggies are trying to kill you. If their goal is to get the deputy to join them then trying to kill them isn't the best plan because all that's going to do is convince the deputy that these really are crazy cultists that need to be stopped.
Cultists try to kill the Deputy because… it doesn’t make sense!
Unless I misunderstood that term, I believe this is what we call ludonarrative dissonance, when story and gameplay contradict each other. The Seeds want the Deputy alive, and several people confirm this, but cult members are video game enemies so they try to kill the protagonist. I don’t think Joseph would get angry if the Deputy died accidentally because he would conclude it was God’s will and meant to happen (or their “punishment”, as he says when the helicopter is burning), but I highly doubt he ordered his followers to kill them; that doesn’t seem logical.
We know bliss bullets exist and that they are used whenever story missions need to happen, so I don’t know why cultists don’t use them all the time when they see the Deputy (or anyone else, really, since their goal is to save people)... Instead of death, the “game over” could have been the Deputy falling unconscious and a message saying something like “You have been captured”. Maybe the devs didn’t do that because they thought it was too complicated and constraining (the Deputy would have had to escape the cult or go save their captured allies every time) but I think it would have made more sense, story-wise.
#it’s ‘video game logic’ but not actually logical#it didn’t make much sense in fc4 either#at least they fixed this problem in fc6!#in fcnd too actually#villains don’t want you alive in these games#far cry 5#the deputy#also it’s weird they always immediately recognize the deputy because dutch gave them new clothes#‘wearing that uniform outside is gonna get you killed.’ well dutch I have bad news…#far cry 5 spoilers

Well, they made it confusing because the nuclear ending simultaneously still is the canonical ending of Far Cry 5… and not a canonical event in Far Cry 6. So yeah, it’s kind of a “haha no that didn’t happen explanation”.
When someone asked about that during an “AMA” on Reddit, the Narrative Director and Lead Writer of Far Cry 6, Navid Khavari, explained:
We tried to approach this with the idea that each Far Cry has its own stories and world. While there are some loose connections between the games we wanted to focus on the story of Yara and its revolution, set in the present day, with Dani and Libertad fighting Anton’s regime.
And he said the same thing in this video. To me, that basically means, “We realized that if we wanted to make more games set in the present day, we had to pretend the Collapse never happened”, so they decided the games weren’t connected anymore. They’re set in different timelines; in parallel universes, if you will.
I don’t blame them for coming up with this solution because the world canonically ending at the end of Far Cry 5 was a huge issue to work around, but now fans are (understandably) confused…
You know I'm not really sure how far cry 6 handled the fc5 ending, did they say there was a nuclear explosion or was that just a haha no that didn't happen explanation? Did they change the 'canon' ending to walk away? Or is a section of montana just nuclear wasteland? im pretty sure they said new dawn was non-canon and that makes sense but what really happened at the end of far cry 5? Some one please tell me
#and they never explain that in the game which doesn’t help#far cry 6#in the post-credits scene they also resuscitated a dead character from a previous game so yeah#in fc6 in general (all dlcs included) they really focused on telling the story they wanted and not about the series’ canon#…which doesn’t exist anymore anyway I guess#because there are multiple timelines now#far cry 5#by the way that’s not the first time I see someone say fcnd was officially declared non-canon#do you have a source by any chance?#people keep saying that and it seems it’s just a rumor but if it’s not I’m interested!#far cry 5 spoilers#navid khavari#he’s working on that upcoming star wars game now#good for him!

10, 11, and 21 >:-)
for this post
10) worst part of fanon
this is a hard one because i'm in a ton of horrid fandoms with awful widespread headcanons! the first one that came to mind is how ppl in the fc5 fandom seem. CONVINCED that jacob is the serious non-dramatic brother when like.. he literally sings at you? he has a whole slideshow presentation? he crafts an elaborate setup just to get you to kill his ex boyfriend or whatever. dude is a fucking drama queen. stop spreading lies abt him to make him seem cooler..
11) number of fandom-related words you've filtered
as of today, a solid 40 (not including things filtered specifically to avoid spoilers which is mostly just the new zelda game) i just block whatever fr
21) part of canon you think is overhyped
keeping on the fc5 track ig, but honestly. the ending where montana gets nuked. i don't think it's deep or cool i just think it's kind of lame and poorly written. if they wanted a reveal that joseph wasnt just some crazy guy they could've done it much better and more gradually, and if they wanted to show that it was a coincidence they should've had some other type of devastating but not world-ending disaster happen -- preferably a more believable one, like a wildfire or pipeline explosion or some shit. not only would it make more sense, but it could also be something that was directly caused BY the cult or the resistance. idk i just think the ending fucking sucks. i like fcnd (kinda lol) tho so eh
#kris.txt#ask#poetikat#ask game#please guys give me more of this im stuck inside the house (recovering from surgery) and im SO BORED and SO ANGRY

NAME:
Rowan Layton
AGE:
At the time of FC5: 34
At the time of FCND: 51
SEX:
Male
GENDER:
Nonbinary
ORIENTATION:
Pansexual
Panromantic
FAMILY
Parents:
Laurel Layton (Mother)
Paul Layton (Father)
Siblings
Paul Layton Jr. (Brother)
Samantha Layton (Sister)
PERSONALITY
Family Oriented
Rowan is a family oriented person, unable to stand by as anyone they consider family is hurt. When still living in the same state as family, they would often be seen taking a lunch break with a family member and choosing to spend more time at their family home than their own.
Brave ⇿ Self sacrificing
Rowan cares very little about consequences when it comes to protecting the people around them, including if it means they won’t come out of the situation alive. Oftentimes the cause of Rowan being injured is their own willingness to throw themselves into the fire to stop others getting burned.
Party guy ⇿ Lack of self preservation
If there’s one thing Rowan loves- it’s a celebration. They were surrounded by parties as they grew up, with two parents in charge of networking for their company and a very popular set of siblings, there was never a short of good times at the Layton home. Due to the nature of their growing up, Rowan never really found a way to settle themselves down and learn to read the room until a much older age. By that time they’d already formed a mental connection to bonding with others through wild dancing and drinking until you’ve gone blind.
WHAT’S UP WITH ROWAN?
Why are they in hope county?
A year prior to Rowan’s transfer to the Hope County Sheriff’s Department, their brother Paul went missing. All signs pointed to a mysterious religious project centered in bumfuck nowhere, Montana; Eden’s gate. Months of searching, of all nighters spent pouring over old and new clues all brought up nothing, and seven months after Paul’s disappearance everyone was telling them to let it go. The whole situation was a tragedy, but their stress had skyrocketed and Rowan could barely function as a human being- spending all their time in a rapid and desperate search for their brother.
At everyone’s constant insistence, Rowan agreed to drop it, to let go all that had happened. Which, of course, was a complete and total lie. Under the pretense of moving to a smaller town to gather their thoughts and recover from the stress of the accident, they were on their way to the one place that every bit of evidence placed their brother…Hope County.
WHAT’S UP WITH THE JUDGE? (NEW DAWN SPOILERS)
What’s their story?
After seventeen years stuck in a bunker with only one Joseph Seed, the Deputy that many knew and praised had become a shell of their former self, living only to serve as Joseph’s “Judge”, righteously protecting New Eden and judging the sinners around them in an attempt for redemption of their past sins once they went topside. The Judge wears a mask to keep their identity hidden, a way of distancing themselves from the sinner they once were. They serve Joseph and their loyalties lie with New Eden and the Captain of Security under Joseph’s orders.
They don’t speak, but are often heard grunting, breathing heavily, or crying behind their mask.

GENDER:
Nonbinary
ORIENTATION:

Demisexual
FAMILY
Parents:
Mother: Unknown
Father: Dave Canmore
Siblings:
Brother: Carl Canmore
Brother: King Canmore
PERSONALITY
Independent ⇿ Isolated
Collar is a very self-sufficient individual, but in being so independent they often find themselves isolated from friends and family. This continued to be a problem after the collapse, when while being in groups wasn’t necessary, it was helpful. They didn’t start to truly get close to another person until Thomas Rush invited them to his crew.
Pacifistic ⇿ Soft-hearted
Collar isn’t a fighter, they never have been. And while the introduction of nuclear bombs into their life alongside working as Captain of Security for Thomas Rush gave them some fighting spirit, Collar still isn’t a big fan of fighting and killing and will opt to use their words first. This can cause them to make decisions like choosing not to kill a dangerous enemy, or forgo a battle altogether for the sake of not shedding blood. They’ll risk everything to save others, even if it means getting hurt or dying in the process.
Determined
If nothing else, Collar can be described as determined. When given a task it’s a guarantee that they will complete it to the best of their abilities. Their promise is an unbreakable vow in their minds, and any goal in their path is sure to be completed regardless of the difficulty

I hadn’t considered the possibility that the hatch could lead to another room and not necessarily outside, but I like this hypothesis! And even if it was just left there for no particular reason, I’m going to assume there’s some sort of attic now, with even more food and supplies stored there!
I don’t like that the restroom is so far from everything, especially the bedrooms! I would hate to have to use it in the middle of the night...
And I like your theory about Joseph being in charge of the fish tank. At least, I can totally see him coming up with a schedule or instructions. Compared to the Deputy, he was less distressed and more prepared for this whole situation, so I’ve always imagined he was the most likely to have organized their life in the bunker. That said, taking care of living beings could also have been “therapeutic” for the Deputy, in a way, so maybe they ended up doing it, either because they wanted to or because Joseph suggested it.
Dutch's bunker layout confuses me. Out of all the rooms I'd want to be easily accessed from the outside, right by the stairs leading up to the hatch, the shower room isn't one of em. Which is really what it is, I think. It's just a shower and a sink. I don't see a toilet so I'm guessing he has that somewhere else? Or maybe the man doesn't poop. But you walk in the bunker and boom! Showers! I guess it makes sense if you're looking at from the perspective of "well after The Collapse we're all going to come in here and be filthy so we'd need to wash that off," but it's still a little weird. The little soap bottles are oddly cute, though

AU where Ethan Seed lived but still kept the weird monster form
Arguments between him and Joseph would be so funny cause like Ethan would growl at his father in response to something he's not allowed to do in the house
"Don't you growl at me in that tone, Ethan!"
*growls*
"Ethan Seed, you do not talk to your father that way!"

I had been waiting for this moment for two games now. Joseph just happens to have an extremely punchable face. And attitude. And everything. (Maybe I did punch or kick him once or twice in New Eden to relieve some stress. I mean, can you blame me? Now that it’s allowed.)
But then it was finally here and... I found that I didn’t want to do it any more. Not because he doesn’t deserve it. He absolutely does deserve it. Joseph is a self-absorbed murderous asshole. Joseph the murder-cult leader. Joseph the manipulator. Joseph the baby-killer. I’ve never forgotten any of that. He is irredeemable. That won’t change no matter how much New Dawn tries to put him on a pedestal. Or whatever it was that it was trying to do there. But now that he actually wants to die, it’s just lost all its charm. That’d be too easy. Now, only after his own son died a dumb death because he felt entitled to being special (Like father, like son, eh?), Joseph finally came to the conclusion that he fucked up big time. Who cares about the murder cult thing anyway? In any case, it looks like he’s suffering like a dog, at least emotionally, and it’s all very dramatic. That’s the exact point where I’m comfortable letting Joseph live. I think that after all the bloodshed that happens in this game I can hardly pretend our protagonist is somebody morally superior. So, I let Joseph live out of spite.

I just want to share something really quick, and I'd love to hear your two cents on this.
One of the best things about Collapse (despite its flaws) for me was the Voice not being as benevolent of an entity as Joseph initially thought. That reveal actually gave me a lot of vindication on my own personal headcanons surrounding the Voice before Collapse had been released. And it's something I don't really see talked much about, often times its brushed over really.
The Voice is manipulative, especially on Joseph, and I actually believe that the only reason Joseph was given the visions of his family alive in New Eden was so it could a) ensure Joseph stayed devoted and b) just to give Joseph a false sense of hope and ultimately laugh at Joseph's desperate attempts to keep his family (such as John) alive and for his eventual breakdown over their deaths (I headcanon that the Voice had never intended for Joseph's siblings to survive). It uses its cunningness, omnipresence and ever knowing knowledge to create and execute plans accordingly, and with just how arrogant it is, you just know it expects things to happen according to how it wants and must have a kick in watching Joseph and many others suffer, helpless to its power. It clearly knew what it was doing when it chose to speak Joseph right after his wife's death. I have no doubt that the Voice anticipated/expected Joseph to sacrifice his infant daughter, despite how the situation was presented as a test or choice to Joseph.
I don't even think it ever actually cared if 3000 souls were saved in the bunkers from the Collapse. The Voice definitely doesn't cry a river about it. It just wanted to string Joseph along and play him like a fiddle until it eventually gets bored with him. And just thinking about it makes my heart ache for Joseph even more. There was no happy ending for him from the beginning. The Voice played Joseph from start to finish, giving him moments of hope and peace (finding his family again, being right about the Collapse, New Eden, the Captain of Security's arrival) before taking it away (the Deputy killing his siblings, the post-Collapse world not being as peaceful or fulfilling as he expected, New Eden burned to the ground, and Ethan's bitterness and envy growing to corrupt and eventually kill him) because the Voice is just that cruel.
The Voice is the greater-scope villain. It planned, and inflicted pain and suffering and misery on Joseph (a devoted instrument) and everyone else around him just because it could and wanted to do it.
Collapse wasn't a DLC I enjoyed very much, but the Voice will always be a highlight for me. It's now one of my favourite "love to hate" antagonists. And it gives me a real rush of serotonin thinking about the Far Cry 5 fics I want to write that are heavily dipped in a "screw destiny" plotline just to wipe the Voice's smugness.
Yeah, that's all I wanted to get off my chest. Happy second day of 2023 (or first depending on your timezone).
I like what they chose to do with the Voice in Collapse too! Even though it’s also played by Greg Bryk, the fact that it shows Joseph his future as we’ve seen it in New Dawn indicates that the Voice is clearly not a figment of his imagination. In the DLC, Joseph had no idea what New Eden would look like, that the Deputy would become his Judge, and even that he had a son, but he saw all of that because the Voice is real and omniscient, not just “in his head”. I’ve been saying that “God” was the true villain of Far Cry 5 all along and, even if I don’t consider the Far Cry 6 Season Pass canon for many reasons, I was glad the new writing team agreed with that!
Ironically, the Voice being malevolent, choosing the highly devoted, well-meaning Joseph Seed as a punching ball for its own enjoyment, ruining his life, and never intending to keep its promises (except the Apocalypse, so the death of millions of people) can also explain several of New Dawn’s inconsistencies and why that game’s ending felt pointless. I don’t know if it was intentional and the DLC’s writers thought that “the Voice never cared about anything or anyone and did things just because it felt like it” was the best solution to make everything sort of make sense but, honestly, they’re not really wrong…
I’m not sure the Voice was supposed to be 100% evil and manipulative in the minds of the original Far Cry 5 writers, but I think Collapse was right for showing that Joseph was telling the truth, merely following orders, and that, because of his unwavering faith, had to suffer the loss of everyone he loved. I’m obviously not saying he didn’t do bad things, but it’s important to remember why he did them. Making the Voice Joseph’s guide and villain in the DLC was a great idea.
And, yes, it was the second day of 2023 for me when you sent this, so thank you very much, and happy 6th(?) day of 2023 to you :D
