End of New Dawn, right? You get a choice to actually kill Joseph Seed, no nuance, but maybe your view conflicts with what your character did idk
Feel free to ramble or leave an explanation in the tags or replies or wherever. If you haven't played New Dawn, just answer what you think you'd do.

A drabbled fic for @withthedoubleg because I can't get this scene out of my HEAD- (they didn't ask for it but I'm giving it to them shhh)
Warnings: Fire, arson (in a sense), death, emotionally scarring Joseph, blood, manipulation, swearing, depression, other stuff I probably missed (lmk so I can put it here!)
Ship: None
Prompt: None
"Is this your triumph?"
Long ago, he wouldn't have hesitated. He would've exclaimed from the mountainside "yes! This is my greatest triumph, look at this Eden God has provided for my people!"
But now, on his knees with palms raised to the sky as his hands had fallen on top of his legs, stared from the cliff down to the fires of New Eden. He couldn't say it now. Homes destroyed and burned, he had no idea where his Judge has gone or whether they were dead too.
His flock was surely all gone now too. Dead. All because his son was jealous.
Envious that he had allowed an outsider to taste the fruit of Eden.
His son wasn't saved either. None of the Seed family was and now he was the last...
Their only fault was that they were related to him one way or another and now he had to carry the burden of their deaths upon his shoulders. He was responsible, he led them to their demise.
But it certainly didn't help that the Voice was finally silent. God had abandoned him long ago he finally saw it. The Voice was nothing more than a fabrication of his own mind made so long ago when he was weak and vulnerable to be able to deal with trauma from when he was a child.
But it also didn't help that Randall, that sick demon bastard, had brought them to their demise. John was the first to be influenced by that twisted fuck before he'd taken Randall back. Fearful for Jacob and Faith...
And they were gone too, despite his attempts to protect them. Despite everything he'd done to take care of them.
And now Ethan, his poor son. It had been years since he'd seen Randall yet he looked no different, especially when he'd caught the man speaking to his son when he was just a boy.
Despite everything he tried, despite all he attempted to keep his son safe and away from Randall...
He gaze moved to the tree of Eden. Once something that saved his flock, now a mockery as he had put a flame to it with Ethan's body beside it.
Maybe he too will be consumed by the flames. A reprieve that God wouldn't give to him.
The man who caused so much trouble for him, for his family, moved to stand in front of him. A smile on his face.
And all Joseph could do was stare. The face of a devil that he now only saw solace in. God had abandoned him, but there was one constant in his life and even now, even when he had won wouldn't leave.
"... Save me from this nightmare. Please."
And those hands of Randall's moved to his cheeks. A mockery of their first meeting. He knew there was no warmth within this man or his actions.
And yet he felt comforted in the hold all the same.

You’re welcome!! Thank you too for your message and your appreciation! :D
I had never seen the original storyboard for room 1991, so thanks for the link! I too believe the vision isn’t just a memory and represents Vaas killing people for Citra in general, not Jason specifically. When I rewatched the cutscene after reading your ask, it was how I interpreted it as well, and the storyboard supports this theory!
The DLC’s main scriptwriter confirmed in this video that we can’t trust everything we see in Insanity. After explaining Vaas’ “darkness” comes from the fact he “failed” to become Citra’s warrior (which is an interpretation I disagree with, but it helps understand the DLC), she says:
Something that’s great about Vaas is that he’s an unreliable narrator. You never really know if what you’re seeing is actually what happened or if he’s twisting it as he remembers it. You’ll see scenes and you really have to ask yourself what’s real and what isn’t.
To me, the vision in room 1991 is a combination of Vaas’ past actions, present feelings, and fantasized future.
We don’t know how old the siblings are or who’s the oldest, but I imagined they were both around 30 too. That said, maybe they’re indeed almost 40 because it’s not that old, after all! Now, if they were children/teens in 1991, it’s interesting they look like adults in the vision. They made child versions of the characters too, so the fact they used the adult models would support the theory that the scene is mostly symbolical. I wouldn’t be surprised if Vaas had had to start killing people when he was still a child either...
In any case, maybe the year 1991 is important to him because it was indeed the first time he witnessed such a ceremony and/or murdered someone for his sister. If a ceremony was held in 1991, I assume it was either actually performed by Citra (and she’s just older than we thought), or it wasn’t but she’s the person he imagines anyway because, as the current Rakyat leader, she’s now in charge of those ceremonies. She’s also someone he wants to impress and who’s always on his mind.
To me, he murders Jason multiple times because, like Citra, he haunts him. While Vaas killed many people to gain his sister’s approval, he now views Jason as the sole obstacle between them, the only target he must eliminate to fix his “mistake” and finally become the Ultimate Warrior. The murders he committed in the past and the one he fantasizes about are all mixed together in the “Room 1991” vision.
He also “sees” himself kiss Citra and apparently become her warrior at the end because it’s what he desires most... at least in the DLC (not in Far Cry 3; he actually refused “her crazy ritual”). So yes, I agree that, while the vision is probably inspired by real events, it’s still, for the most part, a fantasy!
As for why people once made him 27 years old on the Wiki, I’ve always assumed it was because it’s an “iconic” age to die. They probably thought it would be cool to make him part of the 27 Club...
Thanks again for your message! At least, it was interesting for me :)
Hello! I was wondering something. In Vaas: Insanity there are six visions that occur in the hotel, five of which happen in numbered rooms: 1991, 2003, 2006, 2007, and 2012. So I was thinking, what if those numbers correlate to a specific year? Personally I think that it's kinda confusing, because that would imply that for example, Vaas rebelled against Hoyt in 2012. What are your thoughts? Thanks for reading!
Hello! I don’t think I’d even realized the room numbers could be years, but that makes total sense! I’ve just watched a video of the mission and there are two rooms with the number 2012: the one in which we see the Pirate meeting you’re referring to, and the one in which we see Jason kill Vaas. The second event did happen in 2012 so I agree: the room numbers must be years!
Now, about the Pirates wanting to rebel against Hoyt… While it’s true there were tensions between them and the Privateers in Far Cry 3, what we see in that vision is strange to me for several reasons. Firstly, why is there another “Pirate Leader”? Wasn’t Vaas their only leader, especially in 2012? Has there ever even been another leader? Who is this guy he’s listening to as a pupil listening to a teacher?
Secondly, what he’s upset about is the fact they want to “take the land from the natives”. That’s an inherently infuriating concept, sure, but in the context of the story, why would Vaas be surprised and angry about that? He knows what he signed up for when Hoyt recruited him, he knows his boss hates the Rakyat, and I even believe he started working for him in the first place partly because he felt betrayed and wanted revenge. The way I see it, Vaas becoming Hoyt’s right hand and leading the Pirates is his ultimate “Fuck you” to Citra and, by extension, the Rakyat. He wouldn’t complain about their land being stolen.
Thirdly, in the vision, when he asks where the men are from, they all (except the “Leader” who’s just been shot in the leg) say they were born “here”. The problem is that, in Far Cry 3, the in-game description said the Pirates “came to the island”, implying they’re all foreigners. Also, they have nothing but contempt for the Rakyat and their accent is not the same, so I’m not sure why Insanity implies most of the Pirates are native Rook Islanders. As far as I know, Vaas is the only Rakyat among them.
I also think it’s a bit weird to imagine they have wives, children, and “normal” family lives... but maybe some of them do, who knows?
So, in my opinion, the idea that Vaas himself asked the Pirates to rebel, especially for the reasons cited in the DLC, doesn’t make sense. On the contrary, it was he who maintained the fragile balance of power between his men and Hoyt’s, and it was precisely when he died that the Pirates, without a leader, started attacking the Privateers to try to get control of the island. I think it would have been strange for Vaas to “start a war with Hoyt” in Far Cry 3.
That said, it seems the DLC’s writers believed Vaas felt guilty for not becoming Citra’s “Ultimate Warrior”, leaving the Rakyat, and convincing others to follow him. I don’t really agree with this interpretation (and Insanity isn’t canon to me anyway) because he chose not to complete the ritual, still clearly resents the tribe, and I don’t think other Rakyat became Pirates, but maybe that’s why the devs thought the rebellion against Hoyt was Vaas’ idea.
Also, because Vaas, Pagan, and Joseph are unreliable narrators in Insanity, Control, and Collapse, some of the “visions” they experience, for various reasons, either never happened or show a distorted version of reality, so maybe this scene isn’t a memory but a fantasy, a romanticization of his past and a way for him to “correct” it in his mind. It’s possible Vaas never actually started a war on Hoyt but (at least in the DLC) wishes he had done it.
Again, I doubt this meeting happened or even could have happened in Far Cry 3, but I suppose that’s why the scene exists in Insanity.
#I had temporarily stopped following far cry on twitter when they shared that video of the writer#(in case they posted spoilers for fc6 because I hadn’t finished the game yet)#so I only discovered it recently but it confirmed my suspicions about how they interpreted vaas and his relationship with citra#I wish I had seen it sooner though because at least it would have mentally prepared me for the dlc :’)#far cry 6 insanity#vaas insanity#vaas montenegro#citra talugmai#I realized something watching that interview#listening to someone say lore-related stuff I either disagree with or know is objectively wrong feels like holding a broken pearl necklace#it’s like everything I know and love is falling apart and I can’t do anything; I can’t catch all those pearls#I want to stop the flow but it’s beyond my control#and then when the 'pearls' (words) are out there people believe them without questioning anything#I don’t blame them because not everyone is lore-obsessed and official sources are supposed to be well-informed and trustworthy#but it’s still frustrating#joseph’s final speech in fcnd made me feel the same#it’s even weirder when the people who rip the necklace off my neck are (or supposed to be on the same page as) the ones who gave it to me#it’s okay though because once the pearls are on the floor I can still pick them up#and then I just remake the necklace for myself exactly as it was (or even prettier) and ubi can never take it away from me#I have several of those now and I love them :)#...wow I went on a tangent there didn’t I?

10, 11, and 21 >:-)
for this post
10) worst part of fanon
this is a hard one because i'm in a ton of horrid fandoms with awful widespread headcanons! the first one that came to mind is how ppl in the fc5 fandom seem. CONVINCED that jacob is the serious non-dramatic brother when like.. he literally sings at you? he has a whole slideshow presentation? he crafts an elaborate setup just to get you to kill his ex boyfriend or whatever. dude is a fucking drama queen. stop spreading lies abt him to make him seem cooler..
11) number of fandom-related words you've filtered
as of today, a solid 40 (not including things filtered specifically to avoid spoilers which is mostly just the new zelda game) i just block whatever fr
21) part of canon you think is overhyped
keeping on the fc5 track ig, but honestly. the ending where montana gets nuked. i don't think it's deep or cool i just think it's kind of lame and poorly written. if they wanted a reveal that joseph wasnt just some crazy guy they could've done it much better and more gradually, and if they wanted to show that it was a coincidence they should've had some other type of devastating but not world-ending disaster happen -- preferably a more believable one, like a wildfire or pipeline explosion or some shit. not only would it make more sense, but it could also be something that was directly caused BY the cult or the resistance. idk i just think the ending fucking sucks. i like fcnd (kinda lol) tho so eh

PERSONALITY
Family Oriented
Rowan is a family oriented person, unable to stand by as anyone they consider family is hurt. When still living in the same state as family, they would often be seen taking a lunch break with a family member and choosing to spend more time at their family home than their own.
Brave ⇿ Self sacrificing
Rowan cares very little about consequences when it comes to protecting the people around them, including if it means they won’t come out of the situation alive. Oftentimes the cause of Rowan being injured is their own willingness to throw themselves into the fire to stop others getting burned.
Party guy ⇿ Lack of self preservation
If there’s one thing Rowan loves- it’s a celebration. They were surrounded by parties as they grew up, with two parents in charge of networking for their company and a very popular set of siblings, there was never a short of good times at the Layton home. Due to the nature of their growing up, Rowan never really found a way to settle themselves down and learn to read the room until a much older age. By that time they’d already formed a mental connection to bonding with others through wild dancing and drinking until you’ve gone blind.
WHAT’S UP WITH ROWAN?
Why are they in hope county?
A year prior to Rowan’s transfer to the Hope County Sheriff’s Department, their brother Paul went missing. All signs pointed to a mysterious religious project centered in bumfuck nowhere, Montana; Eden’s gate. Months of searching, of all nighters spent pouring over old and new clues all brought up nothing, and seven months after Paul’s disappearance everyone was telling them to let it go. The whole situation was a tragedy, but their stress had skyrocketed and Rowan could barely function as a human being- spending all their time in a rapid and desperate search for their brother.
At everyone’s constant insistence, Rowan agreed to drop it, to let go all that had happened. Which, of course, was a complete and total lie. Under the pretense of moving to a smaller town to gather their thoughts and recover from the stress of the accident, they were on their way to the one place that every bit of evidence placed their brother…Hope County.
WHAT’S UP WITH THE JUDGE? (NEW DAWN SPOILERS)
What’s their story?
After seventeen years stuck in a bunker with only one Joseph Seed, the Deputy that many knew and praised had become a shell of their former self, living only to serve as Joseph’s “Judge”, righteously protecting New Eden and judging the sinners around them in an attempt for redemption of their past sins once they went topside. The Judge wears a mask to keep their identity hidden, a way of distancing themselves from the sinner they once were. They serve Joseph and their loyalties lie with New Eden and the Captain of Security under Joseph’s orders.
They don’t speak, but are often heard grunting, breathing heavily, or crying behind their mask.

PERSONALITY
Independent ⇿ Isolated
Collar is a very self-sufficient individual, but in being so independent they often find themselves isolated from friends and family. This continued to be a problem after the collapse, when while being in groups wasn’t necessary, it was helpful. They didn’t start to truly get close to another person until Thomas Rush invited them to his crew.
Pacifistic ⇿ Soft-hearted
Collar isn’t a fighter, they never have been. And while the introduction of nuclear bombs into their life alongside working as Captain of Security for Thomas Rush gave them some fighting spirit, Collar still isn’t a big fan of fighting and killing and will opt to use their words first. This can cause them to make decisions like choosing not to kill a dangerous enemy, or forgo a battle altogether for the sake of not shedding blood. They’ll risk everything to save others, even if it means getting hurt or dying in the process.
Determined
If nothing else, Collar can be described as determined. When given a task it’s a guarantee that they will complete it to the best of their abilities. Their promise is an unbreakable vow in their minds, and any goal in their path is sure to be completed regardless of the difficulty

Well, they made it confusing because the nuclear ending simultaneously still is the canonical ending of Far Cry 5… and not a canonical event in Far Cry 6. So yeah, it’s kind of a “haha no that didn’t happen explanation”.
When someone asked about that during an “AMA” on Reddit, the Narrative Director and Lead Writer of Far Cry 6, Navid Khavari, explained:
We tried to approach this with the idea that each Far Cry has its own stories and world. While there are some loose connections between the games we wanted to focus on the story of Yara and its revolution, set in the present day, with Dani and Libertad fighting Anton’s regime.
And he said the same thing in this video. To me, that basically means, “We realized that if we wanted to make more games set in the present day, we had to pretend the Collapse never happened”, so they decided the games weren’t connected anymore. They’re set in different timelines; in parallel universes, if you will.
I don’t blame them for coming up with this solution because the world canonically ending at the end of Far Cry 5 was a huge issue to work around, but now fans are (understandably) confused…
You know I'm not really sure how far cry 6 handled the fc5 ending, did they say there was a nuclear explosion or was that just a haha no that didn't happen explanation? Did they change the 'canon' ending to walk away? Or is a section of montana just nuclear wasteland? im pretty sure they said new dawn was non-canon and that makes sense but what really happened at the end of far cry 5? Some one please tell me

⚠️ spoilers for Far cry new dawn ⚠️
AU where Ethan Seed lived but still kept the weird monster form
Arguments between him and Joseph would be so funny cause like Ethan would growl at his father in response to something he's not allowed to do in the house
"Don't you growl at me in that tone, Ethan!"
*growls*
"Ethan Seed, you do not talk to your father that way!"

I had been waiting for this moment for two games now. Joseph just happens to have an extremely punchable face. And attitude. And everything. (Maybe I did punch or kick him once or twice in New Eden to relieve some stress. I mean, can you blame me? Now that it’s allowed.)
But then it was finally here and... I found that I didn’t want to do it any more. Not because he doesn’t deserve it. He absolutely does deserve it. Joseph is a self-absorbed murderous asshole. Joseph the murder-cult leader. Joseph the manipulator. Joseph the baby-killer. I’ve never forgotten any of that. He is irredeemable. That won’t change no matter how much New Dawn tries to put him on a pedestal. Or whatever it was that it was trying to do there. But now that he actually wants to die, it’s just lost all its charm. That’d be too easy. Now, only after his own son died a dumb death because he felt entitled to being special (Like father, like son, eh?), Joseph finally came to the conclusion that he fucked up big time. Who cares about the murder cult thing anyway? In any case, it looks like he’s suffering like a dog, at least emotionally, and it’s all very dramatic. That’s the exact point where I’m comfortable letting Joseph live. I think that after all the bloodshed that happens in this game I can hardly pretend our protagonist is somebody morally superior. So, I let Joseph live out of spite.

I hadn’t considered the possibility that the hatch could lead to another room and not necessarily outside, but I like this hypothesis! And even if it was just left there for no particular reason, I’m going to assume there’s some sort of attic now, with even more food and supplies stored there!
I don’t like that the restroom is so far from everything, especially the bedrooms! I would hate to have to use it in the middle of the night...
And I like your theory about Joseph being in charge of the fish tank. At least, I can totally see him coming up with a schedule or instructions. Compared to the Deputy, he was less distressed and more prepared for this whole situation, so I’ve always imagined he was the most likely to have organized their life in the bunker. That said, taking care of living beings could also have been “therapeutic” for the Deputy, in a way, so maybe they ended up doing it, either because they wanted to or because Joseph suggested it.
Dutch's bunker layout confuses me. Out of all the rooms I'd want to be easily accessed from the outside, right by the stairs leading up to the hatch, the shower room isn't one of em. Which is really what it is, I think. It's just a shower and a sink. I don't see a toilet so I'm guessing he has that somewhere else? Or maybe the man doesn't poop. But you walk in the bunker and boom! Showers! I guess it makes sense if you're looking at from the perspective of "well after The Collapse we're all going to come in here and be filthy so we'd need to wash that off," but it's still a little weird. The little soap bottles are oddly cute, though
