forever obsessed with brennan's choice to not use porter's legendary resistances on adaine's detect thoughts because he doesnt consider it enough of a threat. like FUCK man. his downfall is literally what makes him a bad fucking teacher. from the very beginning porter has clearly only respected one type of strength. we watch him first day of freshman year dismiss gorgug for singing a song when asked what rage means to him. we watch him hand on shoulder tell gorgug after sophomore year-- who has two apocalypses under his belt by then-- that he's not a proper barbarian because his rage is defensive. he (jace, but, same faction) literally sends two detect thoughts at gorgug and doenst even WAIT to confirm if they worked before retreating because he CANNOT, WILL NOT, believe that gorgug can resist them. and hey listen i know that artificer is an int based caster and detect thoughts is a wis save-- but just think about the fucking foolish, arrogant disrespect that is targeting the kid who multiclassed into an intelligence-based class and being SO confident that it was the wrong choice and made him less effective as a party member that you dont even bother to check if he resisted your MIND-BASED spell. because you believe so strongly that a decision that doenst increase his physical, barbarian strength is a bad decision that made him weaker and lesser in every way. it just makes it all the more poetic when, hey, why would he worry about a measly detect thoughts from the party wizard cowering in the back? he can hit people so hard he crystalizes their blood, and that's the ultimate fucking HEIGHT of power right?

Was able to make fun of someone torturing her and force herself to stay calm despite having an anxiety disorder and once turned down an incel in-universe with, "I feel like you think you have a lot to offer. You don't." She also coolly shrugged off the first season's villain's attempts to guilt trip her by pointing out, "I'm a child!", to which the several thousand year old dragon didn't have a comeback.

Despite being a magic user, she was able to physically kill a woman with her own two hands on accident. When she fights the man who tortured her sister, Adaine, despite being 1. tortured herself prior 2. a minor and 3. exhausted, proceeds to straight-up kill him, an armed adult man. She may be the nicest girl on the show but the gods cannot help you if you touch her sister. As in, that man literally had The Nightmare King's divine blessing and she still killed him in an unfair fight by beating him to death with her bare fists out of sheer fury. I know she's 5"0 and petite. That doesn't mean she can't kick ass.

Kalina being created by a young Q'as'ahn'j'rah, playing scrappily in the shadows of the astral plane, curling up beside her for a nap in the liminal twilight glade, being a friend to the one who created her, a world of just a goddess and her familiar.

Kalina experiencing Q'as'ahn'j'rah’s pain as Galicaea ridicules her for the first time, comforting her, learning that not all gods exist in equal favor, seeing Q'as'ahn'j'rah literally shrink and fade away at the sight of her older sister, at Helio and Sol, learning that even in such a space as a pantheon of deities, there is an order of importance.

Kalina watching Q'as'ahn'j'rah become enamored with Ankarna, being cautious (and often prickly) about her daymare but eventually learning to play with him, feeling the happiness of her creator when they are able to be hand in hand as night transitions to day, and day to night.

Kalina at Q'as'ahn'j'rah and Ankarna’s wedding, refusing to play nice with Helio and Galicaea and instead sidling up to Ruvina, having a comfort in her cold and melancholy embrace. Kalina truly feeling as if Q'as'ahn'j'rah, and in turn she, are carving their space within the gods.

Kalina with her ears flattened to her head as Q'as'ahn'j'rah fights with Ankarna’s changing self, days growing longer and hotter as nights become cold, bitter, and unforgiving, the change in dawn and dusk being felt not just by Kalina and her daymare friend, but also by the other gods.

Kalina watching the Nightmare King be defeated and destroyed, but just before the connection to her goddess is completely severed, a voice from ages past reaches out to protect her, commanding her to run.

Kalina fleeing for her life, running out of the forest, out of Sylvare. Running, running, running until she can no longer remember her name, her goddesses’ face, her purpose, just that she has to get revenge for what the world did to her creator.

Kalina, sinking so far into the shadows that she becomes one with the darkness, biding her time, losing herself in her quest to purge all that did her master wrong, losing her physical self, her identity as Kalina, and becoming the Shadow Cat.

Some various and sundry Aguefort headcanons:

-After Jace gets fired (read: bodied and arrested), everyone kind of has the realization that, oh, hey, not teaching your sorcery students how to use their powers because "sorcery's innate so there's nothing I can teach" is actually hella dangerous and produces sorcerers who can easily lose control over their incredibly volatile powers (there's a reason that there has not been a single Wild Magic sorcerer who's made it to graduation since Jace became the sorcery teacher), and they end up hiring a teacher whose ethos is "you must learn to make yourself the master of your magic, or it will become the master of you." Xir name is Mothwood Khalazza, xe's a drow Aberrant Mind sorcerer, and xe quickly gains a reputation as the most interesting teacher at Aguefort. Mothwood smokes with Eugenia on weekends.

-Since warlocks, sorcerers, and clerics know what their subclass is right from level 1, they are allowed to apply for an MCAT right from the get-go---like, you could enter Aguefort as a level 1 cleric and immediately sign up for fighter classes, that sort of thing. With every other class, you can only apply for an MCAT once you've got your subclass under your belt.

-The debate team is a collection of Eloquence bards, Mastermind rogues, Enchantment wizards, and Knowledge clerics who are encouraged to use their arguments as verbal components of spells, resulting in a debate that is filled with elegantly-delivered spellcraft. Whichever team manages to drop the other team to 0 HP wins the debate.

-Jumping up on that---and inspired by some worldbuilding in my home game, suggested by one of my players---for senior year both at Aguefort and at the several adventuring colleges out there, you have to write a thesis and defend it to your teachers, while you are also engaged in combat with them. The fight ends when one of you is dropped, or when an argument or rebuttal is delivered (followed by a spell or a strike, of course) that the other person can't come up with a response to.

-Druid students and ranger students aren't taught in a classroom, but are instead given lessons entirely in the Far Haven Woods. While druid lessons are way more focused on becoming one with nature, learning how to respect it, and essentially befriending nature in order to work with it, ranger lessons are about surviving in spite of nature, about roughing it in the most dangerous parts of the untouched world, about harnessing beasts to your will. (This is mostly based on my interpretation of the difference between druids and rangers, since it's... very tricky to actually put into words. A new edition's out and rangers still need a serious class update, swear to god.)

-There are actually four bard teachers at Aguefort---Lucilla obviously teaches songwriting and music composition and Terpsichore teaches dance, but there's also a bard teacher who specializes in speech and debate (who heads up the debate team and mock trial, of course), and a bard teacher who specializes in storytelling and gathering knowledge. The speech and debate teacher is, in fact, an actual archfey who used to oversee contracts made between mortals and his kind, met Principal Aguefort, hit it off with him, and decided that teaching sounded way more exciting than endless Feywild bureaucracy. (The storytelling teacher's a human, and they've got a whole goth-academic thing going on.)

-While the theater kids are all very much respected and treasured, it is an unspoken secret that the techies have their own secret society, and every night the actors are performing, the techies not only have to keep the show running, but they have to defeat monsters that are trapped in the auditorium and seek to destroy the beautiful energy that is brought to life during live stage performances. It's universally agreed that being a techie is twice as hard as being an actor, and you have to jump through a lot of hoops before you can become accepted as one of them. (Yes, I did read the Backstagers comics in middle school, what of it?)
