A semi coherent string of thoughts:

The Traveler has not tried his Life spell on anyone except himself prior to healing the Rancher, and wasn't even sure if it would work on anyone else

The spell did work, though the wound resisted healing for hours and the Traveler kept trying.

What if, later, they come across someone else injured and the Traveler attempts to heal them... And it doesn't work?

What if he continues to try, pouring magic in again and again, to no avail even though the wound looks normal, shouldn't be able to resist?

What if the actual reason it's not working is because this time, he's actually trying to heal someone else, instead of someone with the same hero spirit as him?

Finally downloaded the Summer Update for Hogwarts Legacy…definitely worth the wait…now to put these new perks to good use, while eagerly awaiting the release of Harry Potter: Quidditch Champions, which should hopefully be this September.

So I've been out of DST for a while and I'm new getting back in to the skill tree updates, idk how popular or unpopular this opinion is but I've just unlocked all of Wigfrid's skills (as someone who is Not a Wigfrid main) and I've...got some thoughts.

Mostly, I don't love skill trees in theory past Wilson. As much as I've been having fun with all these perks on Wigfrid, that's because they're really, really powerful - it's the same fun I have when I ruins rush on Wanda and kill everything with an alarming clock easily. And I do love that fun, I'm not shaming anyone else who loves it and loves their faves getting more attention I 100% get it, but I just...don't love what it does for the game.

DST has always kind of felt like a game where the only difference between new and old players would be experience, and that was kind of the fun of being a new player playing with an old one, or vice versa. When you see your experienced friend kiting the first Deerclops you've ever seen, you can tell that it's just skill that separates you. And that feels way more encouraging than seeing them whip out a new ability or weapon that you have no way to get yet, or trudging through the swamp together to gather reeds and silk and learning everything on the fly. It's always, at least in my opinion, put the Together for new players in Don't Starve Together - both being on the receiving end and the delivering end. It's fun to teach and learn, and a lot of the skill tree perks put a barrier between it mentally - even if the barrier is still time. Not to say the skill tree perks couldn't exist, I am so happy for the Woodie and Wigfrid and Willow mains out there who have become absolute powerhouses. I just think they'd be better off as full reworks so everyone has access to them at the beginning, or something you have to unlock in each world rather than something you have accessible at the beginning.

That being said...I do love Wilson's skill tree because I think it executes what skill trees are intended to do (as opposed to full or mini reworks), which is to reward you for spending time to learn the game mechanics. And it works on Wilson so well on a gameplay level, because he's a base character with no special mechanics which means you get to learn about all of the game's mechanics easily, and take your time to start to get intimate with them. And his perks are all minor conveniences - at most you get to skip one event that's all about being swarmed by mobs trying to attack something you need to protect, which is the average experience taking Chester through the swamp./j

Tldr; Skill trees kind of feel against the vibe of DST (especially for new players) but I'd love if they were world-exclusive or just full reworks.
