9 Books
tagged by @cha-melodius. Thank you!
I'm 90% sure I've done this, but I'll never be able to find it now. And it's not like I could possibly contain myself in nine books. So, variation - nine authors I will read no questions asked whenever they come out with a new book.
1 - Everina Maxwell Winter's Orbit is just my entire heart. Didn't love Ocean's Echo quite as much, but still devoured it in one big gulp.
2 - Margaret Owen I know I've done PR for the Little Thieves trilogy (Goose Girl told from the POV of the goose girl + a heist - so good). But, the Merciful Crow duology is also just spectacular.
3 - Marissa Meyer The Lunar Chronicles are just astonishing - fairytale retellings in sci-fi future - Cinderella, Little Red Riding Hood, Rapunzel, Snow White.
4 - Patrick Ness (see, I do read men, sometimes, under highly selective circumstances) Chaos Walking just blew my entire mind with how smart and nuanced it was (have not seen the movie, do not plan to). But also The Rest of Us Just Live Here, and Release are gorgeous.
5 - Tess Sharpe My love for this author knows no bounds. Her women are never morally white - they're complicated, and they make hard decisions and live with the consequences.
6 - Melina Marchetta Jellicoe Road, and Finniken of the Rock, and Piper's Son. She writes in so many different genres, and I love all of them.
7 - Anna Marie McLemore When the Moon Was Ours, and The Weight of Feathers are just some of my favorite books ever. Their writing is so magical and lyrical.
8 - Maggie Stiefvater I cannot wait to see what she's doing next (also, my mind is still blown by the fact that she wrote the fourth book of the Raven Cycle when she was seriously ill and it was affecting her brain and she could barely think in sentenes).
9 - okay, and cheating here with all my beloved romance authors that make my world go around - Evie Dunmore, and Sarah MacLean, and Lisa Kleypas, and Julia Quinn, and Olivia Dade, and Patricia Briggs, and Ilona Andrews, and probably more that I'm blanking on right this second.
Tagging @rmd-writes, @jesuisici33, and @iboatedhere - 9 authors you will read without thinking twice.

top 5 diviners characters!
Sorry I took a while with this anon I just wanted to write out my thoughts properly since I don’t get to talk about my Diviners bbs often :). #1-2 and #4-5 are basically tied in terms of my feelings for them so I just differentiated rank based on how satisfied I was with their arcs/overall stories especially based on my reread last winter break because reading them back to back rather than as they were being published threw some of that into relief for me.
Theta Knight — I Adore this girl, have since day one and on reread especially she has my favorite arc of any of these characters, I love how her learning to accept her powers works in tandem to her de-learning the feelings of guilt she has from her abusive childhood and marriage. She also has such cool powers not just the fire but I also love that she’s the diviner who is given the title of Witch specifically in BTDBY in a way the others don’t, and how she ends up kind of claiming it. She’s also so deeply loving as a person yet at the same time unwilling to put up with bs, very stubborn frank and down to earth about the things that matter which makes her dynamics with others great to read about especially this makes her friendship with Evie Really fun because I love Evie but she does need that type of tough-love-mixed-with-support from someone. I of course love her friendship with Henry they’re very Margo-and-Eliot coded bi girl (I mean I know that’s not technically canon for Theta but I’m convinced) gay man found family friendship <3 and her relationship with Memphis is lovely very few of those love-at-first-sight-instant-connection ships work for me but they’re one of the exceptions and the way the maturity and growth of their relationship develops over the course of the books is really something.
Ling Chan — girl who is me. Excellent INTP representation for once and she’s brown and wlw too I stay winning :). Ling is such an important character to me personally I really relate to the way she thinks, her being very logical and skeptical by nature but also finding beauty in tradition and the theme of being caught between worlds in different senses. I also love her powers I find dream powers fascinating and imo this verse handles them the best in terms of explaining them and keeping them interesting  (and I say this as someone who’s favorite series is the raven cycle lol). She has such great dynamics with other chars I loved her toxic romantic friendship in the dream world with Wei-Mei and her friendship with Henry and Memphis and Theta I have mixed at best feelings about Jericho but he’s by far the most entertaining to me in his dynamic with her in the last book, and her clashing with Evie was handled pretty well and I liked her arc around internalized misogyny but I do think she got very little to do in the last book and she peaked in the middle books, which is why she’s slightly bellow Theta. She’s so special to me though.
Evie O’Neill — she’s just an excellent protagonist so three dimensional and interesting while also being very charming and fun, and the right amount of frustrating at times but you still love her. She’s ‘swell :).I also was pleasantly surprised by some of the notes on mental health and grief that got touched on in her storyline.
Memphis Campbell — the Diviners men rank pretty close for me but like with Theta the fact I was most satisfied with his arc overall solidifies his ranking. King of Crows is my least favorite of the four books (I’m a huge believer that middle book syndrome is fake and those are often the best/most interesting books in especially characters driven series and that’s true here) although I still have love for it but the full circle of his poems as the voice of tomorrow was top tier and I loved the growth in his confidence and his relationship with Isaiah.
Henry Dubois — he’s only last because he got precious little to do in books that weren’t Lair of Dreams which is where he shone, but I love him his friendships with Theta and Ling are honestly my favorite dynamics in the group And I just, have a real soft spot for the guy similar to how I feel about Eliot from the magicians.
honorable mention to Sam Lloyd who I also am v affectionate towards! Funnily enough I did not like him much my first time reading book 1 but I had a quick turn around on him and Samevie in lair of dreams (I. Love their fake dating plot in that book it’s the best ever). So yeah, he’s a good.

Headcanons for ADHD characters Masterlist
I was asked for this a while ago and I feel this is a good discussion subject because the canon representation for ADHD is kind of abysmal and is often a caricature or a joke.
usual disclaimer, I'm not a therapist, this is not a diagnosis tool, just for fun, etc etc...basing this on my own experience/knowledge with ADHD and meeting a lot of ADHD people IRL. I'm going off the main symptoms first (inattention and/or hyperactivity, restlessness, impulsivity, problems with emotional/focus regulation, daydreaming, messiness, hyper-focus, fidgeting etc) and then looking at character traits that are not a necessary symptom but often associated (substance abuse and addiction, need to please, sensitivity to rejection, compassionate and creative, thrill seeking, very imaginative, charming and witty or withdrawn and shy or angry and irritable, whimsical and fun and a bit child-like, out of the box thinker, self esteem issues, unstable life, comorbidity with anxiety and depression, very intense feelings, functions better with adrenaline/in an emergency, disregard for rules and problems with authority OR extreme compliance, codependency, perceived as weird, clever in an atypical way, problems in school, extremely good at one specific thing, etc)
Also I found this list with actual canonical representation
BOOKS :
The 'fits to a T so I'm seeing it as my personal canon' list :
note : doesn't mean that the authors actually meant to create representation but it's very likely they at least got inspired by people who did have ADHD (even when the diagnosis itself did not exist) and explained it with 'it's just their personality' OR the story happens in a setting where the label doesn't exist as such. also not meant to be exhaustive.
- Helen Burns (from Jane Eyre by Charlotte Brontë) One of Jane's school friends from the start of the novel, fits the inattentive type to a T : she can't seem to focus or learn her lessons, is constantly daydreaming, describes herself as messy and careless, forgets rules, and is easily distracted. She talks constantly about her own 'defective nature' and seems very sensitive to criticism but incapable of changing. She doesn't defend herself against the nuns' harsh punishments as she thinks she deserves them. She's presented as kind-hearted and compassionate, almost too good for this world, and hyperfocuses on her faith. Apparently sb even wrote an academic article on this. She dies so it's not super fun representation but it is interesting to see in an older book, to push back against the idea that ADHD was invented yesterday by Big Pharma lol.
- Grantaire (from Les Miserables, Victor Hugo) Part of the student revolutionary group Les Amis de l'ABC and resident skeptic, does not believe in the cause but is fixated on the group's idealistic leader (and yeah it sounds very gay, they die holding hands, there is a lot of Symbolism). He spends his time ranting about things that are only vaguely connected, is described as brilliant but incapable of sticking to any one profession or hobby, is an alcoholic, has a creative streak (was a painter at some point), likes wandering around the city, has massive self-esteem issues and is a general mess but does seem to care about his friends. This is not a very flattering portrayal as Grantaire is described as morally deficient but again, interesting in an old book. ADHD!Grantaire is a popular take in the modern fandom (i was in it before I was diagnosed it brought up a lot of Things) and it's very cathartic to see him get actual therapy in fic lmao.
- Luna Lovegood (from the Harry Potter series) JKR sucks but this is probably the most high profile case of a possible inattentive ADHD character so I didn't want to leave it out. She's a daydreamer, she is a big space cadet and seems to live in her own world, she has a very out of the ordinary sense of style, she's bullied for being weird, but she's also very kind and perceptive and cares a lot about her friends, and good at coming up with out of the box solutions. I wouldn't call it good representation, she's described as a wacko whom a lot of characters find cringeworthy but she's also pretty heroic, so. And she does seem to hyperfocus on magical creatures. Plus her father could also have it (and it runs in families).
- Jasper Fahey (from Six of Crows duology, Leigh Bardugo) Part of a young group of thieves with a heart of gold, he's a charmer and a compulsive gambler who quits college and incurs debts so massive he stops talking to his father out of shame. He's also an extremely talented sharpshooter and the scenes where he describes how the whole world slows and the rush of adrenaline when he is shooting sound like hyperfocus to a T. He's a loyal friend but also quite dependent on Kaz, the leader of the group, to keep him in line. He's witty, messy and he likes danger. His boyfriend later in the series, Wylan, is dyslexic and the way they learn to accommodate each other's issues honestly makes them one of my favorite couples ever. I need to reread these books and I am so stoked for the series I hope they do Jasper justice.
- Julian Diaz (from Cemetary Boys, Aiden Thomas) Love interest of the book, introduced as the 'high school resident bad boy', energetic motormouth who can't sit still and actually very endearing, has issues in school and gets bored easily, main problem is that he's a ghost...sort of. The whole thing was very cute and I love that Julian's personality is described as fun and attractive instead of annoying (which is, if you haven't noticed already, a pattern).
- Evie O'Neill (from the Diviners series, Libba Bray) She's a flapper in 1920s New York who ran away from her boring little town to make a life for herself ; she's a party girl and an impulsive thrill-seeker who hates standing still and is always looking for excitement to 'fill the void'. She craves fame and attention and pretty things, she can be a loyal friend but is also frequently self-centered and forgetful, she's street smart, resourceful and very charming and witty. She's also grieving, drinks too much and is definitely depressed. She's obviously meant as an archetype of the era, caught between trauma and excess, but it does come over as very hyperactive ADHD as well. Her powers to read objects also really pinged me as a good metaphor for the ADHD tendency to be overwhelmed by details.
The 'bit more of a reach but there's a vibe' list :
- Emma Woodhouse (from Emma, Jane Austen) Frequently cited as a character with ADHD, I didn't come up with this one but she fits. She's daydreaming, easily bored, has flights of fancy and hyper-focuses on matchmaking, is a bit impulsive and thrill seeking, clever in an unconventional way, described as a bit immature, mix of caring and self-centered.
- Ronan Lynch (from the Raven Cycle, Maggie Stiefvater) Ronan just has Neuroatypical Vibes, even though it's not entirely clear what, and I've seen people label him all sorts of things which is very valid. As for ADHD, he's restless, impulsive, likes to Go Fast and do street racing, he has very strong emotions he doesn't know what to do with, and big self esteem issues esp. at the start, is very all or nothing with people, snarky, drops out of school to be a magic farmer, problems with authority, looks like a scary mean goth but is actually a big softie (but like, with a few people), pulls shit out of his dreams. Is kind of dependent on his best friend at the start too.
- Sherlock Holmes (from the eponymous series by Arthur Conan Doyle) Again a character who has been diagnosed with all sorts of things. The biggest ADHD vibe for me is 'my mind rebels at stagnation' and the way he needs drugs to function outside of the thrill of a case, and the way he hyper-focuses on information he needs to be a detective while completely ignoring common knowledge. Also sort of dependent on his best friend Watson and isn't great at social interactions. Doesn't care much about upholding social conventions either. The RDJ adaptation is the one that has the most ADHD vibes to me.
- Harley Quinn (DC Comics/Movies) Big codependency issues (that's arguably the thing she's most known for) and sadly people with ADHD are often prone to getting into abusive relationships. It depends on the story too but she's very energetic, zany, impulsive, she likes shiny things and bright clothes, she's fun and chaotic and likes to break the rules, she's a criminal but she does seem to have a heart, she's also frequently immature and rash, etc.
What are your headcanons ? I would love to hear if you have some so I can add them to the list. I'll make a TV/Movies list soon.

I really am just going to keep going on about this but literally........ the diviners deserves that huge fanbase that series like six of crows or the raven cycle or any of those ya series has. the atmosphere and the characters and ships and plot and everything is amazing and I've been waiting and waiting for it to gain more traction but it hasn't! and with the last book coming out in February I'm scared that now it's never going to :( like where are my tragic sam and evie edits? where are my more than two accounts worth of fan art??? where are my people crying over henry and louis????? this book has a canonically depressed mc, a jewish boy exposing a government conspiracy targeting immigrants, a black healer from Harlem who loves his psychic little brother, a native american upcoming actress, a gay songwriter from the south, a chinese ace lesbian who LOVES science, and a socialist girl fighting against large corporations that mistreat and underpay their workers. also jericho but this post isn't about him. not to mention that it's set in 1920s new york with elements of horror and fantasy, with that found family trope and themes of America's hypocrisy vs what America was theoretically established to be. libba bray created such a vibrant world with incredibly lovable character and I'm going to be so sad to say goodbye next year. anyway underrated ya, if ur on the fence or if this has been on your tbr and you've just never gotten to it (this book literally sat on my shelf for almost a year before I read but bc I kept putting it off whoops), here is ur message. read it!

Thrilling (Jacob Frye x Frederick Abberline)
*insert Marge “I just think it’s neat” meme*
------------------------
He wasn’t sure what it was about those Assassin’s, and to be quite frank, he supposed he never wanted the answer.
It might end this terrifying, yet amazing situation he found himself in.
Frederick Abberline had always figured himself a regular chap, one who wanted to change things for the better. Serving in a corrupt justice system wasn’t the best thing, but one had to start at the root to hack out the disease, and Frederick felt himself doing so quite well. Then the Frye Twins came barreling into his life, and everything sped along like a train at full steam. Criminals he thought too far from reach were suddenly delivered on silver platters, his corrupt superiors either falling to hidden blades or running for their lives. It was rather exhilarating, but for Frederick, there was someone who was everything and more to him. Jacob Frye was the Twin he dealt with most often, and at first, Frederick had despised his callous attitude towards his goals. It had not lasted long, and over the beginning months, they seemed to plateau to an understanding. Of course, Jacob was oft causing Frederick considerable amounts of paperwork, but he had to admit work was getting done. A part of him felt as if he had fallen to the same corruption as his fellow Officers, using outside means to a usually violent end. On those nights he drank heavily, staring at the endless papers scattered about his desk. They seemed to be mocking, waiting for him to write the names of those he had, however indirectly, caused the death of.
Then there were the better nights, that began after one harrowing mission. Frederick had been undercover, Jacob using the policeman as a way to distract Blighters until they fell to his blade. It worked until the leader had grabbed Frederick by the neck, squeezing until the world began to tunnel right before his eyes. The last image he saw was Jacob falling down towards him, coat almost giving him the visage of wings as Frederick finally succumbed to unconsciousness. He awoke gasping on some rooftop, Jacob’s worried face hovering above his by mere inches. The Assassin was saying something, but for some reason the sergeant just couldn’t pay attention, just staring at Jacob until the other went quiet. Perhaps near death had shocked his system, but it was the span of a single breath before Frederick leaned up and kissed the other man. His lips are dry as sand, and Jacob still has some blood from biting at them in worry, but if he was honest, Frederick didn’t mind. It’s when they part he starts to laugh hoarsely, Jacob without a word to say and his face as pink as the sky that lightened around them. Jacob does not see Fredrick for a few nights afterward, being surprised with a letter holding a set of keys to Fredrick’s home and office.
At first, the visits were filled with information and jokes over food and drink. It was as if both sides were testing the field, dancing around the topic which lay at their very center.
Surprisingly, the former clockmaker crosses into the barrier first, having the other lie with him one night. Jacob, having been sore and injured after fighting to finally free a borough, had entered Frederick’s home sometime during the daytime. The policeman was surprised when he had returned home to see Jacob sprawled on his couch, and ignored Jacob’s insistence on using the couch to rest upon that night. It wasn’t hard to send the Assassin back to sleep with some good brandy, and after some internal back and forth, he gets into bed beside the Assassin. He has a new book to read, and Jacob’s natural body heat kept the covers quite warm for Frederick, so as such he wasn’t going to let the opportunity pass him by. The book lies on the floor when Jacob stirs sometime during the night, having fallen when the officer had fallen asleep. One arm lay against the side of the bed, the other lightly tangled in Jacob’s raven hair, having been stroking the sleeping Assassin’s scalp at the first sign of a nightmare. Not one to forsake such a turn, Jacob just closes his eyes and drifts back into a now peaceful sleep. They awake in the same position the next morning, Jacob merely snuggling further under the covers while Frederick blushes and decides a late start isn’t a bad idea.
What they begin is illegal to its core, according to the courts and lawmen, yet Frederick couldn’t bring himself to care. Every day was a cycle of work and returning home, usually alone and arms filled with papers. It takes three months for Frederick to start slipping onto the infamous train belonging to the Twins. At first, most of the Rooks and Evie Frye regard him suspiciously, Jacob seemingly oblivious to the attention. He usually kept Frederick with him up in the lead car, usually up close and personal as they poured over documents and maps. A Rook by the name of Elise is first to see the two at the carriage bar, celebrating the takedown of Lady Attaway. Jacob has taken to drinking heavily, looking a bit sad despite laughing at something Frederick whispers into his ear. The Assassin looks surprised, then with a solid move turns his head to kiss the other man quite roughly, the Rook covering her mouth to muffle her surprised sigh. The policeman moved to steady Jacob, both of their faces red when Jacob pulls back with some sort of remark she can’t hear. His remark gets Jacob to smile for the first time in days, and the Rook hides as the two wobble off to sleep things off in the carriage ahead.
If she finds a letter enclosed with some money and a note the next evening, she just says nothing and buys her crew some drinks.
It doesn’t take long for the Rooks to hear of what she had seen, and not a single one of them minded. Frederick was surprised when he’s approached by some of the older Rooks, who freely shared anything they knew about Jacob and how to find a chink in his off-putting attitude. The policeman thanks them, and finds himself more comfortable on that ever-rumbling train than he ever was at home, among rowdy laughter and joking Assassin’s.
Their relationship is thrilling and terrifying, but if simple Frederick Abberline had one thing to say, it was this.
Don’t let it ever end.

i was tagged by @slightlyrebelliouswriter23 for the favourite male characters challange! Thank youuu i love tags~ 💫 (i limited myself to books this time, but damn still difficult, I would love to be tagged in more of these)
Favourite Top 10 Male Characters:
1. Kaz Brekker (Six of Crows) - he is, and will probably always be my favourite character. sweet emotion-repressing murderous genius boy
2. Kenji (Shatter Me) - i love him so much he’s like the most wonderful guy and best friend you can have, I haven’t read the last book yet but Mafi I swear if you hurt him I’ll be mAD.. so soft, understanding, funny basically a cinnamon roll
3. Magnus Bane (The Mortal Instruments) - if you put together humour, a centuries old warlock, glitter, bi icon and fabulousness, you can only get something amazing
4. Jace Herondale (The Mortal Instruments) - if I love him so much I can’t imagine how the other shadowhunter boys are. He tries to be the hot carefree demonkiller that he looks like but he’s so soft and scared of ducks it hurts
5. Sam Lloyd (The Diviners) - yep I definetly got a type, thieves have a tendency to steal my heart, especially if he’s actually a soft boy (and a character people only think is there to have a good time and think about themself but oh they are soo wrong) and might kinda wants love, also 1920 usa. And the sass? He always knows how to talk back to people and particulary Evie
6. Aaron Warner (Shatter Me) - I seem to have a Thing for boys abused by life. He is, so damn soft towards Juliette, even after everything he’s been through and that ends me. Y’all also that part in UN ”i do want to be your best friend” quote. I’m hOpElEsSlY in love with him
7. Richard Gansey iii (The Raven Cycle) - there’s something so old about him, the way he talks, acts, dress, thinks, and i love it. Also the whole aesthetic around him; old cars, late night calls, moonlit drives, a hunt for an old king ; that’s my vibe
8. Fenrys Moonbeam (Throne of Glass) - he is A baby, i don’t care that he’s over a century old he’s my golden son. No but I’ve known him for half a book but I’ve fallen so and he’s so wILD also look at his naaaame
9. Rhysand (A Court of Thorns and Roses) - he’s the ultimate male feminist other’s can’t get close. Also he’s the most powerful high lord in history but doesn’t let that get to his head, not to mention he was the first one EVER to be like “wife? mate? sure good titles what about High Lady? Equalityyy”
10. Aeduan (The Witchlands) - i love the fact that he’s a hufflepuff just like me, add mercenary with cold exterior and only soft to like two people (basically gf and adoped child) and you can’t expect me to not fall in love. But damn boi your monologue both broke my heart and made me grin so much

I'm in a reading rut! Do you have any recommendations? Books like The Raven Cycle series, maybe? ❤️❤️❤️
@prettyygirlx  Hi!! Do I EVER haha, sorry that I had to let this sit for a few days until I had time to actually answer fully! I’ll divide these as book recs from one character each, with associated themes! As a note, I’ll include non-YA books that are nevertheless thematically similar bc as we know TRC is a witticism-riddled YA romp with decidedly darker themes….we have been blessed. For ease of bookmarking, I’ll include a summary from goodreads + a link, and I’ll comment briefly on why I recommend it for fans of TRC, too!
Book Recommendations Based on The Raven Cycle:
• • • BLUE SARGENT’S REC: • • • — The Basic Eight by Daniel HandlerFlannery Culp wants you to know the whole story of her spectacularly awful senior year. Tyrants, perverts, tragic crushes, gossip, cruel jokes, and the hallucinatory effects of absinthe – Flannery and the seven other friends in the Basic Eight have suffered through it all. But now, on tabloid television, they’re calling Flannery a murderer, which is a total lie. It’s true that high school can be so stressful sometimes. And it’s true that sometimes a girl just has to kill someone. But Flannery wants you to know that she’s not a murderer at all – she’s a murderess.REC BC: First of all, Daniel Handler, also known as Lemony Snicket. And I’m not biased bc he wrote a series about children who share my last name; he’s just a truly enjoyable writer to hear from. A smart, dark book with an unreliable narrator and plenty of high school fun. Heathers meets The Secret History (also on this list).• • • HENRY CHENG’S REC: • • • — Six of Crows Duology by Leigh BardugoSix dangerous outcasts. One impossible heist. Ketterdam: a bustling hub of international trade where anything can be had for the right price—and no one knows that better than criminal prodigy Kaz Brekker. Kaz is offered a chance at a deadly heist that could make him rich beyond his wildest dreams. But he can’t pull it off alone…Kaz’s crew are the only ones who might stand between the world and destruction—if they don’t kill each other first.REC BC: Similar sense of humor and camaraderie with our titular Band of Snarky Weirdos, themes of the search for a home and a meaningful purpose in the world, and how to communicate that with others. Not to mention that Wylan Van Eck Is My Golden Son, and in my head…I play a supercut of Blue Sargent and Noah Czerny and Henry Cheng and Kuwei Yul-Bo’s Fabulous Four friendship.• • • ADAM PARRISH’S REC: • • • — A Great and Terrible Beauty (+ Gemma Doyle Trilogy) by Libba BrayA Great and Terrible Beauty is a curl-up-under-the-covers kind of book … a vast canvas of rustling skirts and dancing shadows and things that go bump in the night. It’s a vividly drawn portrait of the Victorian age, a time of strict morality and barely repressed sensuality, when girls were groomed for lives as rich men’s wives … and the story of a girl who saw another way.REC BC: Mysterious and Unknowable AF, Adam Parrish would devour the hell out of this book tbh. This is an eternal favorite of mine, not just for its rich setting and amazingly creepy scenes, but for the relationships, characterization, and abject hilarity that Bray somehow manages to fit seamlessly into a novel about death and gas-lit darkness. In true Parrish tradition, this series is about carving your own destiny, the influence of power and sacrifice, things that go bump in the forest, and mysterious surly men who want you to join them on a vision quest for totally platonic reasons.• • •  PRESIDENT CELLPHONE  RICHARD CAMPBELL GANSEY III’s REC: • • • — The King Must Die by Mary Renault“Men would be as gods, if they had foreknowledge.” In myth, Theseus was the slayer of the child-devouring Minotaur in Crete. (Theseus is) a king of immense charisma, whose boundless strivings flow from strength and weakness—but also one steered by implacable prophecy.REC BC: Mary Renault is famous for her historical fictions and retellings of myths. Her Theseus novels are elegant explorations of how a man becomes a legend, how a legend becomes a myth, and beyond and before all of that, Death. This is not a lighthearted adventure book, but it is a truly gratifying novel to read.• • • NOAH CZERNY’S REC: • • • — The Secret History by Donna TarttUnder the influence of their charismatic classics professor, a group of clever, eccentric misfits at an elite New England college discover a way of thinking and living that is a world away from the humdrum existence of their contemporaries. But when they go beyond the boundaries of normal morality they slip gradually from obsession to corruption and betrayal, and at last - inexorably - into evil.REC BC: This book always makes lists with TRC for a reason. It is deeply settled into ‘purple prose’ (aka long descriptions are given precedence over snappy action) but I personally believe that it is even more rewarding for that. The experience of reading this book is paramount to the plot itself, IMHO. You’ll find yourself writing down quotes every few pages, for sure.
• • • RONAN LYNCH’S REC • • • 1. Stare for way too long and give him a tin of organic shea butter from your dreams. 2. Become a farmer3. Profit.60% of the time it works every time.jk but rlly• • • RONAN LYNCH’S REC • • • — The Diviners Series by Libba BrayEvie O’Neill has been exiled from her boring old hometown and shipped off to the bustling streets of New York City—and she is pos-i-tute-ly ecstatic. It’s 1926, and New York is filled with speakeasies, Ziegfeld girls, and rakish pickpockets. The only catch is that she has to live with her uncle Will and his unhealthy obsession with the occult. Evie worries he’ll discover her darkest secret: a supernatural power that has only brought her trouble so far.REC BC: We all know Ronan Lynch reads turn of the century girl power YA in his spare time, c’mon. And we all know Ronan and Adam are picking out their books together. No but really, I love Libba Bray. I included her twice for a reason, she’s hilarious and she’s great at her job. The Diviners features an oddball cast of characters with supernatural secrets (we all know how Ronan Lynch feels about these,) centering on Evie, who was recently kicked out of her hometown for being a little too much…herself. I really hope that you find something you love, either in these or using these as a jumping-off point! I’m about to start The Foxhole Court which I know is also adored by TRC fans, so if you haven’t checked that out, I can’t personally recommend it yet bc I only rec things I’ve read, but go for it!

Note
all the odds for the ask, my friend
yesss lets do this!!
1: Currently Reading
I am currently reading The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian by Sherman Alexie
3: First book that had a major influence on you
This is so hard but I would probably have to say I’d Tell You I Love, But Then I’d Have to Kill You. The Gallagher Girls Series was the first books series I ever got really into and kind of sparked my love for reading.
5: Favorite series and why
The og Percy Jackson and the Olympians series bc I just am trash for mythology and those books have always been something I can turn to
7: What is the most important part of a book, in your opinion?
If I can’t get into the universe the author has created then I just question everything in the book and don’t really focus on the plot or the characters
9: If you were to publish a book what (besides your real name) would you use for your author name?
I have had this planned for years tbh and it would be Margaret Schenkel
11: What book fandom do you affiliate yourself with the most?
Definitely The Raven Cycle
13: What character would be your best friend in real life?
Noah Czerny my cute sk8r boi
15: Post a shelfie.
My books shelves and my desk are a mess rn sooo gonna pass
17: What do you think about movie/tv adaptations?
I think most of the time they are unsuccessful at being a perfect adaptation, but that being said I do think there are some really great adaptations but they give me anxiety
19: Book that you call your child.
Like every book in The Secrets of the Immortal Nicholas Flamel series
21: Do you loan your books?
It really depends on how much I love the book and how much I trust the person I am loaning to haha
23: Did your family or friends influence you to read when you were younger?
Nope
25: A book that you think about and you cringe because of how terrible it was
Harry Potter and the Cursed Child
27: How/where do you purchase your books?
I get most of my books from amazon or thriftbooks29: Favorite female protagonist.I gotta go with Annabeth Chase I love my mom31: Do you day dream about your favorite books? If so, share one fantasy you have about them.I do this constantly. Lately I have been daydreaming about the most recent Diviners book and Sam x Evie bc magic in the 1920s??? I love it
33: Cute and fluffy or dramatic and deadly?
Dramatice and deadly
35: What do you think of Ebooks?
I am a really impatient person so Ebooks are really convenient for me but nothing beats reading a physical book
37: A book you are scared is not going to be all you hoped it would be
Tomorrow my copy of A Darker Shade of Magic comes and I have heard really good things but I have heard the plot is really politics heavy l and idk how I feel about that??? we will see tho!
39: Favorite villain
I really like the way The Dorothy Must Die Series portrayed Dorothy and Glinda and turned them into villains and WICKED into heroes even if the last book ended on a fucking cliffhanger wtf
send me an ask based on this post!!
