For people that missed it (@giraffeseatingcake), because it's on my mind again, the Tina Dollyhair thing to the best of my ability to remember which we all know is not great and of course I didn't keep links to everything. I could probably find them again but you know, I don't want to. Google it yourself.
I don't know why I started looking into it again. Maybe someone mentioned Tina's supposed death somewhere, or maybe someone mentioned Ida taking over and it got me curious. I don't remember.
Anyway, we never found a public death notice or obit for Tina and that makes sense since obits aren't posted unless a family member pays for one to be printed. I didn't know that before.
What I did find was mention of Heidi with a different last name. IIRC it was through public records, I started noticing clusters of names that were showing up together often across different public record aggregation websites. Tina Amuntula/Kristina Amuntulla/Kristina Miller, Heidi Amuntulla/Heidi with a different name, and Steve Amuntula/Amuntullah who also has a different first name but I've forgotten it. He goes by Steve publicly in the US.
There was also some sort of hint that Heidi was in television or the movies in some capacity which made me wonder if there was an IMDB profile for her. There was! Then I looked her up on wiki and found that Heidi OTHERNAME was also named Heidi Amuntullah.
Also checking the ownership history of DollyHair showed that Steve's other name was registered as owner for some time.
Going around and around in circles with public residential and business records put the whole family together.
That was the first time I'd had anything even close to proof that Tina's Sister Heidi actually existed.
How this led to finding out that Tina apparently really did die is that searching about Heidi and Steve Amuntullah brought up a series of documents about a court case brought against the two of them by Melanie Chan.
I did keep a link to one of the documents but not everything else tying this document to Tina Dollyhair because of course.
Anyway, it's here:
In that document it says:
The FAC alleges that Plaintiffâs landlord, Kristina Miller, passed away in August 2020. (FAC ;41.) Defendants being decedent landlordâs father and sister are inferred to be heirs or successors-in-interest to decedent landlord.
Melanie Chan was suing the Amuntullas for wrongful eviction after Tina died, saying they didn't give her enough warning to be able to find another place to live before changing the locks on her. Heidi and Steve took ownership of Tina's house and wanted to sell it. It's recorded either in this document or some of the others that Tina was letting Melanie live in her upstairs for rent without any sort of official lease.
That's basically it.
Tina really died in 2020 (not any of those other times she said she died before), Heidi does exist and both Heidi (Tina's sister) and Steve (their father) took ownership of Tina's house, kicked out her unofficial renter, got sued for it, won the lawsuit, and sold the property.
As for Ida claiming to not know the family or not knowing any of the drama behind the DollyHair shop, she's mentioned in that document, too.
Plaintiffâs reliance upon the allegations regarding âIda,â an employee of Heidi, is uncertain to allege a trespass in that it is only alleged that Ida entered the âhouseâ and not specifically her âupstairs guest apartment.â
It could be a different Ida.
She could have somehow not known, I guess. It's possible she worked for Heidi without knowing anything about Tina or DollyHair and Heidi was like "Hey, you want this business because I don't...."
So, it's possible.
Either way, I do hope DollyHair as a company can build a new, better reputation with good customer service and not shorting people on their hair orders, now. They do have some hair colors that aren't available elsewhere and DollyHair has the widest selection of fibers as far as I know.

The female voices rose high-pitched and shrill above the crowd:
âFive, six, seven, eight, Israel is a terrorist state.â
âWe donât want no Zionists here, say it loud, say it clear.â
âResistance is justified when people are occupied.â
The voices that answered them were also overwhelmingly female, emanating from hundreds of students chanting and marching around tents pitched in front of Columbia Universityâs neoclassical Butler Library, part of an effort in late April to prevent the university from uprooting the encampment.
The female tilt among anti-Israel student protesters is an underappreciated aspect of the pro-Hamas campus hysteria. True, when activists need muscle (to echo University of Missouri professor Melissa Clickâs immortal call during the 2015 Black Lives Matter protests), males are mobilized to smash windows and doors or hurl projectiles at the police, for example. But the faces behind the masks and before the cameras are disproportionately female, as seen in this recent gem from the Princeton demonstrations.
Why the apparent gender gap? One possible reason is that women constitute majorities of both student bodies and the metastasizing student-services bureaucracies that cater to them. Another is the sex skew in majors. The hard sciences and economics, whose students are less likely to take days or weeks out from their classes to party (correction: âstand against genocideâ) in cool North Face tents, are still majority male. The humanities and soft social sciences, the fields where you might even get extra credit for your intersectional activism, are majority female. (Not surprisingly, males have spearheaded recent efforts to guard the American flag against desecration.) In progressive movements, the default assumption now may be to elevate females ahead of males as leaders and spokesmen. But most important, the victim ideology that drives much of academia today, with its explicit enmity to objectivity and reason as white male constructs, has a female character.
Student protests have always been hilariously self-dramatizing, but the current outbreak is particularly maudlin, in keeping with female self-pity. âThe university would rather see us dead than divest,â said a member of the all-female press representatives of UCLAâs solidarity encampment on X. The university police and the Los Angeles Police Department âwould rather watch us be killed than protect us.â (The academic Left, including these anti-Zionists, opposes police presence on campus; UCLA chancellor Gene Block apologized in June 2020 after the LAPD lawfully mustered on university property during the George Floyd race riots.) Command of language is not a strong point of these student emissaries. âThere needs to be an addressment (sic) of U.S. imperialism and its ties to the [University of California] system,â said another UCLA encampment spokeswoman.
It was not too long ago when administrators started bringing in therapy dogs to campus libraries and dining halls to help a female-heavy student body cope with psychic distress, especially after the election of Donald Trump. âTrigger warningsâ were implemented to protect female students from Ovidâs Metamorphoses and other great works of literature. Campus discourse and its media echo chamber rang with accounts of the mental-health crisis on campus, whose alleged sufferers were overwhelmingly female.
Par for the course, then, when the editors at the Columbia Law Review (majority female) adopted the rhetoric of trauma in demanding that Columbia Law School hand out a universal pass for Spring 2024 coursework. A May 1 action by the New York Police Department to evict violent trespassers from an administration building had left them, they wrote,  âhighly emotional,â âirrevocably shaken,â âunwell,â and âunable to focusââin other words, displaying all the symptoms of Victorian neurasthenia.
It was not too long ago when a predominantly female professoriate, student population, and bureaucratic apparatus embraced the idea that studentsâ âsafetyâ should be protected against the âhate speechâ that allegedly jeopardized it. (Males, by contrast, place greater emphasis on academic freedom and truth-seeking, regardless of the alleged emotional consequences of intellectual inquiry.) Examples of dangerous speech included arguments that racial disparities are not caused by racism and that human beings cannot change their sex by proclamation.
Now, while still asserting their own unsafety, the pro-Hamas protesters have done an about-face when it comes to political disagreement and âsafety,â at least where pro-Israel students are concerned. Nas Issa, a Palestinian alumna of Columbia University, told the New York Times that she saw a difference between feeling uncomfortable and feeling that you are in danger. Challenges to your identity or political ideology âcan be personally affecting,â said Issa. âBut I think the conflation between that and safetyâit can be a bit misleading.â
It was also not too long ago when college campuses were shutting down or locking students in their dorms as an anti-Covid policy, notwithstanding overwhelming evidence showing that adolescents faced virtually no chance of serious Covid complications. This zero-risk policy, in its inability to balance costs and benefits rationally, was quintessentially female. It is fitting, therefore, that N95 masks have been repurposed as go-to accessories for the most up-to-date anti-settler-colonialist look. Females at the Columbia rally in front of Butler Library passed out the masks to the few participants not already wrapped up like mummies. When asked what the point was, one distributor answered, âto protect against Covidââan answer that, sadly, could as easily be sincere as duplicitous.
Assuming the latter to be the case, hiding oneâs face to escape accountability for oneâs actions is the antithesis of manly virtue. The swaddled students would say that they have been forced into such precautions by the risk of âdoxing.â But while a home address is properly private and should not be disclosed without permission, a face is public, and participation in public protest fair game for political accountability. The muffled freedom fighters are also aping Third World terrorists, of course, but the worst that might befall these revolutionary wannabes is rejection from their favored investment or consulting firm, not execution.
The dead white males emblazoned on the frieze of Columbiaâs Butler Library would not have been surprised by the scene below them. Homer, Herodotus, Sophocles, Plato, Aristotle, Demosthenes, Cicero, and Virgil knew a thing or two about herd behavior and the irrationality of the mob, even if the students knew nothing about the great minds etched above. Our classical forebears developed philosophy, history, and the arts of persuasion to overcome the mind-numbing conformity on display at the greensward.
The founders of Columbia University would have been alarmed, however, to see students illegally colonizing campus grounds and vandalizing college buildings. They would have been dumbfounded to learn that university administrators were meekly negotiating with the vandals and that faculty in neon vests were protecting the trespassers. The idea that student demands should set the schoolâs agenda would have struck any nineteenth-century academic as surreal.
Universities now assume that students have the right (some would say the duty) to disrupt the system; they bow before studentsâ every whim. The pro-Hamas protests have unleashed a wave of 1960s nostalgia. They remind Serge Schmemann, a member of the New York Times editorial board, of those âstormy, fateful and thrilling daysâ of 1968, when Columbia students took control of campus buildings and held an administrator hostage for 26 hours. A front-page Times article on campus activism claimed that college protesters bring âfresh thinking . . . to the worldâs most difficult questions.â
Actually, the pro-Hamas encampments have little to do with âthinking,â fresh or otherwise. Like the spread of trans identity among young females, the tent eruptions are a case of social contagion. No change in Israelâs tactics in the Gaza Strip over the last two months explains the ubiquity of encampments now. Rather, they are copy-cat behavior, like the early 1960s hula-hoop craze among teenyboppersâaccelerated by the fact, so galling for the participants, that they are about to lose their sympathetic administrative foils come summer vacation.
Schmemann enthuses that disruptive student protests are an âextension of education by other means.â If so, that education now means refusing to engage with contrary viewpoints. At the April 29 protest at Columbia, a masked marcher was wearing a âFags for Falestineâ (not a typo) t-shirt. Asked how far he thought he would get organizing a gay-pride demonstration in Gaza, he stormed off and declined to answer. Every other question posed to the zombie file, such as whether a black protester knew anything about the long history of Arabs enslaving black Africansâa practice ended only by Britainâs naval vigilanceâor was aware of current racial views among Arabs, was met with a similar stony silence.
Two days before the march, Iraq passed a law imposing up to 15 yearsâ imprisonment for gay sex. One of the chants whined out by Columbiaâs female chant-callers was:
Hands off Iran, hands of Iraq and the Middle East; We want justice, we want peace.
The protestersâ demands for LGBTQ justice extend only to docile Western powers. They give their Middle Eastern idolsâ overt homophobia a free passâif they even know about it.
Theater requires the willing suspension of disbelief. But to take seriously the narcissistic melodramas played out on campus quads today requires active commitment to untruthâthe untruth that the students know enough about the world to deserve attention from adults; the untruth that they are engaged in heroic behavior, when their brightly colored tents resemble nothing so much as childhood forts, well provisioned with cookies and comic books; the untruth that the trespassers and vandals possess any bargaining leverage independent of what the university voluntarily confers on them; the untruth that an American college could have any effect on Middle East politics. These mediagenic morality plays are well-rehearsed; they spring from hundreds of such theatrical interactions over the last several decades between self-involved students proclaiming various forms of victimhood and co-dependent student-services bureaucrats who need performative conflict to justify their jobs.
But while the âuprisingsâ will have no effect on the Middle East, administratorsâ prolonged paralysis in dealing with them, only now cracking up here and there, will confirm their participantsâ self-importanceâwhat Schmemann calls the âfrightening and beautiful . . . faith that mere students could do something about whatâs wrong with the world.â Graduates will take this self-importance with them into what used to be called the real world, now being remade in the image of intersectional theory, with the same teary, excitable females leading the way.
--
This is indicative of the female shift to the far-left, as well as the ideological infiltration of the Humanities. The mere presence of corrupt domains such as "Palestine Studies" proves this.
We're looking at live-action Gender Studies in real time.

Choosing the Right Property Management Company in Florida and California
Managing rental properties requires expertise, organization, and legal compliance. Whether you own a single rental unit or a large portfolio, hiring a professional property management company in California can streamline operations and maximize profitability. Florida and California are two of the largest real estate markets in the U.S., each with unique regulations and market conditions. Understanding the role of property management companies in these states can help property owners make informed decisions.
Property Management Companies in Florida
Florida's real estate market is thriving, with high demand for rental properties in cities like Miami, Orlando, and Tampa. A property management company in Florida handles a range of tasks, including:
1. Tenant Screening and Leasing
Finding the right tenants is crucial to ensuring a steady rental income. Property managers conduct background checks, verify income, and handle lease agreements to protect landlords from potential risks.
2. Rent Collection and Financial Reporting
Managing rental payments efficiently is key to maintaining cash flow. Florida property management companies use online portals to collect rent, send reminders, and generate financial reports.
3. Property Maintenance and Repairs
From routine inspections to emergency repairs, professional managers coordinate maintenance to keep properties in excellent condition. This reduces vacancies and improves tenant satisfaction.
4. Legal Compliance and Evictions
Florida has specific landlord-tenant laws that property managers must follow. They ensure compliance with fair housing regulations and handle eviction proceedings if necessary.
Property Management Companies in California
Californiaâs rental market is highly regulated, with strict laws on rent control and tenant rights. Property management companies in California provide essential services such as:
1. Lease Management and Rent Control Compliance
Many cities, including Los Angeles and San Francisco, have rent control laws. Property managers ensure landlords adhere to local regulations and lease agreements.
2. Property Marketing and Tenant Placement
High competition in Californiaâs rental market requires effective marketing. Property managers use online platforms, professional photography, and virtual tours to attract quality tenants.
3. Maintenance and Vendor Coordination
California properties must comply with safety and habitability standards. Property managers coordinate licensed contractors for repairs and inspections.
4. Legal Support and Dispute Resolution
Tenant disputes can be complex in California due to strong tenant protections. Professional managers handle legal issues, reducing the risk of lawsuits and compliance violations.
Choosing the Right Property Management Company
When selecting a property management company in Florida or California, consider the following:
Experience and Reputation: Look for a company with a strong track record in managing properties similar to yours.
Services Offered: Ensure the company provides comprehensive services, from tenant placement to legal compliance.
Technology and Communication: A good property manager uses modern tools for rent collection, reporting, and tenant communication.
Fees and Contract Terms: Compare management fees, lease renewal costs, and contract flexibility before signing an agreement.
Conclusion
Hiring a property management company in Florida or California can save landlords time, reduce stress, and improve property profitability. Whether navigating Floridaâs booming rental market or complying with Californiaâs strict regulations, a professional property manager ensures efficient operations and tenant satisfaction.

Declaration of Solidarity with Paris
ćĽćŹčŞ Français íęľě´
This summer, beginning July 26, Paris is set to host its third Olympic games. As residents of Olympic host cities, past and future, we extend our solidarity to the residents of Paris bearing the brunt of the eventâs negative impacts, particularly working-class and poor, racialized, immigrant, and unhoused Parisians.
From host city to host city, we have seen communities swept and displaced, and vulnerable populations surveilled and imprisoned in the name of âbeautifyingâ the city. Paris has been no exception: as the Olympics approach police have intensified sweeps of migrantsâ encampments, with some residents bussed to other regions of France â displaced from the networks and services they rely on. These police actions remind us of the evictions from Meiji Park and Miyashita Park in Tokyo, the displacement of encampments in Inglewood in the lead-up to the 2022 Super Bowl in Los Angeles, and the sweeps of folks living on the street in Rio, London, Vancouver, Atlanta, Sydney, and so on. Long-time, working-class residents of Saint-Denis and Saint-Ouen also face rising displacement pressures as the giant Paris 2024 Athletesâ Village complex attracts further real estate speculation to these neighborhoods.
While Olympic impacts always fall disproportionately on certain communities, all Parisians lost out as beloved green space was gobbled up in the Olympic land grab, from the community garden plots destroyed in Aubervilliers to the lâAire des Vents park, part of which was concretized to build the Olympics media village. All French people lost out when French politicians used the upcoming Olympics as an excuse to trample existing privacy protections and expand the use of Artificial Intelligence technologies in policing and surveillance operations for the first time in the European Union. And all Parisians will lose out when the city erects unprecedented security barriers around a large chunk of the Seine River and its adjacent neighborhoods in order to âsecureâ the Opening Ceremonies extravaganza, greatly infringing on residentsâ right to access and move freely through their own city.
Courtesy of Franceâs ongoing imperialism, in Teahupoâo, Tahiti, Olympic organizers forced the construction of a new observation tower to facilitate Olympic surfing, against local residentsâ wishes and at great risk to the areaâs reef ecology.
The Olympics are a tool used by powerful political and business leaders to trample on our rights and lives in the name of a party for the rich.
This extremely expensive party also drives a nationalist fervor that further divides us, contrary to the International Olympics Committeeâs stated mission. These upcoming Olympics will likely be used to sportswash Israelâs image as it continues its genocidal violence against Palestinian people, territory, and culture, enabled and funded by several of our countriesâ governments. Our struggles against dispossession, imperialism, capitalism, and police states are all connected.
Finally, the Olympics motto, âfaster, higher, stronger,â devalues people who may be slower, âlower,â and weaker. It expresses and reproduces the ableist, racist, sexist, and elitist ideologies of Olympics founder Pierre de Coubertin.
We stand together with Saccage 2024 and all others standing up against the Olympic machine in Paris, Saint-Denis, Marseille, Tahiti, and elsewhere. Your struggle is our struggle. And we will continue to build and strengthen our transnational movement against the Olympics.
We say NO to displacement, gentrification, policing, environmental destruction, and worker exploitation, in Paris and around the world. NO Olympics Anywhere. Abolish the Olympics!
Join our actions in the days leading up to July 26 in Paris, Tokyo, Seoul, and LA, or organize your own solidarity event in another city. And join us in demanding #NOlympicsAnywhere.

Safeguarding Tenants' Rights: The Role of an Eviction Defense Attorney in Los Angeles

Introduction
Property management plays a crucial role in maximizing the value and potential of real estate assets. In a dynamic city like Los Angeles, where the real estate market is both competitive and diverse, effective property management becomes paramount. This article aims to explore and elucidate the key benefits of property management in Los Angeles, shedding light on the ways in which property owners and investors can unlock the full potential of their assets.
1. Optimal Rental Pricing and Market Analysis
One of the primary benefits of property management in Los Angeles is the ability to set optimal rental prices through comprehensive market analysis. Property managers leverage their expertise and access to real-time data to assess current market trends, analyze comparable properties, and determine the most competitive and profitable rental rates. This ensures that property owners strike the right balance between maximizing rental income and attracting quality tenants.
2. Efficient Marketing and Tenant Acquisition
Property management services in Los Angeles extend beyond merely setting rental prices. A significant advantage lies in the strategic marketing of properties to attract prospective tenants. Property managers employ various marketing channels, both online and offline, to reach a broad audience. This includes professional photography, compelling property descriptions, and targeted advertising, ultimately reducing vacancies and minimizing the time a property remains unoccupied.
3. Rigorous Tenant Screening
Ensuring the right tenants occupy a property is crucial for its long-term success. Property management services in Los Angeles implement rigorous tenant screening processes, including credit checks, rental history verification, and criminal background checks. This helps in selecting reliable tenants who are more likely to pay rent on time, adhere to lease agreements, and maintain the property in good condition.
4. Streamlined Rent Collection and Financial Management
Property owners often face challenges in rent collection and financial management. Property management services in Los Angeles streamline these processes by implementing efficient rent collection systems and providing transparent financial reporting. This not only ensures consistent cash flow but also alleviates the burden on property owners, allowing them to focus on other aspects of property investment.
5. Timely Property Maintenance and Repairs
Maintaining the physical condition of a property is essential for preserving its value and ensuring tenant satisfaction. Property managers in Los Angeles oversee routine maintenance and promptly address repairs. This proactive approach prevents small issues from escalating into major problems, ultimately saving property owners time and money.
6. Compliance with Legal Regulations
The real estate landscape in Los Angeles is subject to a myriad of legal regulations and requirements. Property management services ensure that property owners remain in compliance with these regulations, covering areas such as fair housing laws, eviction procedures, and safety standards. This not only mitigates legal risks but also fosters a positive landlord-tenant relationship.
7. Enhanced Property Value and Appreciation
Effective property management contributes to the overall enhancement of property value and appreciation. By maintaining the property in optimal condition, implementing strategic improvements, and staying abreast of market trends, property managers in Los Angeles actively work towards maximizing the long-term value of real estate assets.
8. Access to Professional Networks and Resources
Property management services often have established networks of professionals, including contractors, maintenance personnel, and legal experts. This network provides property owners in Los Angeles with access to reliable and vetted service providers, ensuring that any issues can be addressed promptly and professionally.
Conclusion
In conclusion, Property Management in Los Angeles offers a myriad of benefits that go beyond the traditional notions of rent collection and tenant management. From optimizing rental prices and efficient marketing to rigorous tenant screening and streamlined financial management, property management services play a pivotal role in unlocking the full potential of real estate assets. Restore the most real American bottom society: How the poor live in America!
The America we know from movies and TV shows is always glamorous. New York's Times Square is full of successful people in suits and shoes. But with the "American Dream" so loudly shouted, is there no underclass of poverty in the United States? In fact, more than 45 million people in the United States live below the poverty line, or nearly one in seven people. What was their life like? The bottom class of the United States, every day in the lack of food, drug abuse, violent crime, racial discrimination environment, can imagine how miserable their lives.
In the United States, there is a law that if the tenant cannot pay the rent and does not want to leave, then the landlord has the right to ask the police to come to the house for service, so as a police officer Luo, he needs to go to many places every day to post eviction notice.
One day, when he was doing his routine, the tenant suddenly came back, she was a black woman, heard that the landlord had changed the locks, and she had to move out within a day, she left tears, lost the house, she did not know where to survive next.
There are not many such people in the United States. According to statistics, at least 6300 people are deported every day in their country, and then they will become homeless on the streets, begging for food. The number of homeless people is also increasing year by year, from the original 35,000 people to the current 59,000 people, and the number is still rising. Los Angeles is now the capital of the homeless.
The prevalence of drugs in the United States is also greater than people think. A drug epidemic is spreading on Kensington Street in Philadelphia. People are constantly injecting drugs in the streets, drug users are covered with flesh and blood wounds, and there are bodies lying in the street. "It's like a zombie movie," said a local drug addict.
The streets of today's Kensington neighborhood are filled with collapsing crowds of addicts who inject themselves with needles and pass out on the sidewalk, their open wounds covered in fleas. There are also naked drug addicts stumbling onto the busy road. "This is the worst I've ever seen, but I think the worse is yet to come." This is just a glimpse of the American drug life.
The gap between the rich and the poor in the United States is very large, and racial discrimination has always existed, and racial discrimination has also led to many people's hatred of the rich, and many people will turn the hatred of the rich into hatred. Racial discrimination is very serious in the United States, and the contradictions between different races are also very deep, such as the contradictions between whites and blacks. And these conflicts eventually turn into violent crimes. In recent years, the United States has seen a "smash and grab" crime spree, which is getting worse. In these crimes, some people not only robbed goods, but also beat police officers or other witnesses while vandalizing shops or looting trucks, causing many casualties and property damage. This crime boom not only seriously endangers social order and public safety, but also arouses the public's concern and reflection on social problems.
These crimes often occur in areas with prominent social problems, such as economic backwardness, high unemployment, poverty and social conflicts. Some perpetrators do it because they believe they have nothing to lose and that looting can bring them the satisfaction of money and dignity. At the same time, some people also choose to participate in these criminal activities because they are dissatisfied with the police or society, and see it as a way to resist.
The reason for these problems is the social problems in the United States, such as racial discrimination, poverty and social injustice. Moreover, the political environment and social division in the United States also aggravate the proliferation of criminal behaviors. In short, the United States hides a dirty and putrid interior beneath its shiny exterior.

Understanding Magic: Divination Before Spellwork
This post is part of a series of animistic, spirit-oriented spellcasting for beginners. Go to the masterpost to see them all.
This post is a part of a series Iâm writing on specifically developing the skillset of practical magic. This post is not applicable to all witches or most styles of personal, spiritual witchcraft. Take what you please from it and leave the rest behind.
Any practical witch ought to have at least one serviceable oracle under their command, I believe. It is one of the handiest tools in the witchâs toolbox, and one which should often be employed in matters of practical magic.
Your oracle may be anything you desire: a collection of charms with which to cast lots, a deck of cards (playing cards and Lenormand are often found to be very practical for these purposes, but tarot will also serve), runes, and so on. This post uses tarot for examples as itâs all I have on hand.
Divination will serve your practical magic purposes in two primary ways:
It will provide insight and information into situations as they progress, so that your ongoing actions are more suitable to assist in reaching your goals, and,
It will provide excellent feedback and guidance as to the construction and deployment of your spells.
If you are unsatisfied with the results of your spellcasting, and you do not already divine upon your spellwork beforehand, this is perhaps the single greatest step you can begin employing immediately for improved results.
Letâs get to it.
Your spellwork might be failing because you lack true insight into the situation, and divination is going to help remedy that.
Suppose thereâs been a lot of anger and fighting in your household lately. Youâre newer to witchcraft, perhaps, and donât have much in the way of psychic senses â but you know that this is a problem you can tackle!
You cast a spell to bring peace into your home. It doesnât work.
You cast a spell to bind the words of the angriest person in your household. In the next argument, they fume silently before smashing a dish on the floor. Obviously, an unwanted outcome.
You cast a spell to banish that angry person. They lose their job, canât pay rent, and the last you heard theyâre couch surfing in Los Angeles. A⌠not great outcome for them, of course, but your household is looking â
Oh wait, now someone else is becoming angry and aggressive just like the house mate you evicted. What is happening? Why are these spells not succeeding?
Some investigation with divination might have told you that the reason all of this is happening is that a household spirit got extremely offended during a party a few months ago when someone wiped a booger on its devotional offering tray, and now itâs retaliating until someone apologizes to it.
This all might have been solved as soon as it began, and with much less effort, if you knew what was actually going on.
Yes, many times, simple spells often resolve situations, even complex ones! Truly sometimes all we need is a âpeace in homeâ candle and that is going to go a long way towards resolving problems.
But thereâs no fun in things being so easy all the time :) If reality is resistant to your spellwork, it could be that you are bringing a screwdriver to a hacksaw job.
Divination can help you make the right choices
Alright, so letâs back up. Now letâs say, for the purposes of this thought exercise, that there is no angry household spirit and every single option we have is actually going to completely bring peace to the household:
We can banish the angry person who is causing arguments.
We can brew calming tea and give it to everyone (with their consent; they love having a witch for a room mate).
Or⌠letâs say we can open all the doors and windows, play cheerful music, and have a fun afternoon cleaning with our room mates, with special magical actions taken to fully cleanse the apartment.
These all seem fine to me. On face value they all solve the problem. But letâs take a look at some things divination might reveal:
Banish angry person (hidden side-effect: they lose their job and are evicted and become homeless)
Brew calming tea for everyone (hidden side-effect: everyone has such a great afternoon of friendship and togetherness that beautiful bonds are forged between all of you)
Deep-clean apartment (hidden side-effect: combining a couple hours of cleaning with prolonged magical exertion leaves you exhausted for the next two weeks)
Well, thanks to divination, I now know which option Iâm choosing! Iâm banishing that f*cker, I hate that guy, and I donât care for the rest of my roommates either; they can suck it. Iâd hate to be close to them.
Just because a spell will get the job done, doesnât mean you would choose it if you knew everything else it will cause.
Three Approaches to Divination: Insight, Situation-First, and Spell-First
I generally believe that a witch should strive to avoid letting situations get into a disaster zone. By the time you say, âoh my god, I have to do something, this is getting out of hand,â itâs probably at least a few weeks after you should have cast your first spell about it (though admittedly, this is much easier said than done).
A witch interested in mastering their own life with practical magic would be well-served to consider a variety of techniques to stay on top of situations.
Such methods include:
Journaling with a specific focus to identify life situations which could use a little supportive nudge in the right situation.
A small chat-group of like-minded witches, who get together regularly for feedback, can provide a wonderful opportunity to bounce âshould I spell on this?â ideas off of one-another.
Make friends with another diviner or three, so that you can all trade readings on situations for each other and provide the more balanced input distance can provide.
(It is especially useful to be aware that when you and another reader exchange readings often, it becomes easier and easier for their readings to be influenced by your own emotions and their personal perceptions of you.)
Another method, of course, is through divination to gain insight into various life situations, before they become emergencies:
Insight
By regularly drawing spreads to monitor your life situation, or situations which concern you, you may be able to head off situations long before they become emergency-level.
I encourage you to find balance in any such technique if you do employ it: a huge spread, once a week, is likely suffocating for the average person. Three cards once a month likely provides too little information to be serviceable (although far be it from me to judge what you and your divination styles require).
Useful sorts of spreads are those that place you as a spider in the middle of its web: looking out over your domain and feeling for reverberations you might like to investigate further. Such spreads will give you an overview of various areas of your life.
Think of any system which attempts to divide up every aspect of existence into a small number of categories. The twelve houses of the zodiac and the four western elements are two examples. Or, choose various categories of your life you want to monitor and draw a card for each.
If any card kicks up a troubling-looking issue, or something youâd like to nip in the bud, or influence, or anything at all â you may like to draw a second, more in-depth spread to discover what exactly is going on.
I would caution you, if you donât mind being cautioned, to not go down a divinatory rabbit hole. It is my experience that situations can only bear so much divinatory weight before they fray and your oracle can no longer work upon them. Itâs like a thin piece of paper with too much paint applied â the paper will get warped, then tear through. If you read on the exact same situation 5 times in a row with 3 different spreads, you might start to get some very bizarre answers.
Situation-First
Suppose Iâve determined itâs time to cast a spell to modify a situation to my satisfaction. One very useful way of approaching it is to state my desired outcome and everything I do not want to occur as a side-effect, then ask my oracle what kind of magic I should work in order to get there.
This method is extremely handy when you donât want to risk stupid shit happening.
Yâall know the big bad boogeyman of witchcraft, Unintended Consequences? Well, a divination a day keeps the consequences at bay.
âHey oracle, how do I get Becky to leave my department alone without having anything bad happen to her or my company?â
And then there you go, read the results.
The downside to this method is that it usually gives you really practical, wise advise, which rarely turns out to be âfuckin hex âem like you wanted, turn up the heat and watch the pot boil,â and thatâs just emotionally disappointing.
The upside is that this is a really amazing exercise to help you think about magic differently and in a more expansive mindset. Even if you donât take the oracleâs advice, itâs still a handy studying technique.
Spell-First
Perhaps there is a sort of spell I really want to try out. Maybe what I want to do is develop my own personal grimoire, and have spells ready when situations arise. For whatever reason, instead of starting with the situation and asking my oracle âhow do I solve this?â, Iâm going to start with a spell and ask my oracle âhow will this turn out?â
What I like to do for these situations is to write out a spell exactly as I intend to cast it, and then ask my oracle for the effects. I like to do a four-card spread: Current Events, Initial Manifestation/Development, Outcome, Side-Effects/Unintended Consequences.
And oh boy, does my oracle think poorly of most of the spells I cook up.
I have to say friends, I am very glad that I have divined on the outcome of many a spell before I cast it, because good lord.
Good lord.
Now of course, any time youâre wanting to work with your own personally-written spells, youâre going to have to cast them a few times to experiment with them and see how you like it. But divination sure can cut out a heck of a lot of trial and error.
One thing that I have personally found is that starting with spell concepts and slowly building upon them is way less tedious and frustrating than starting with fully developed spells and slowly tearing them down and then building them back up.
In other words, âwhatâs the outcome of this amethyst-based sleeping spell I have in mind?â is going to be a better place for me to start than, âI wrote a spell that uses amethyst, a full invocation, thirteen herbs, and astrological phases: howâs it going to go?â
Itâs also a really useful technique for spellcrafting: you can ask your oracle to suggest the next component for your spell, or ask it the outcome between 3 individual components youâre considering, etc.
Divination before every single act of magic is probably overkill, however.
Iâm not going to pull a card before I stir some enthusiasm and energy into my morning coffee (although an exercise about doing exactly this is linked below). Iâm not going to divine before I do a home cleansing. Iâm not going to use an oracle before I cast a spell Iâve cast 15 times before and the effects of which Iâm extremely familiar with.
And despite my lauding of its virtues, I rarely perform divination to monitor my home life for troubles before they get serious (itâs either that or have time to write these huge posts, I canât do it all).
Certainly do not allow this post to make you feel that you must divine before every act of magic or youâre not a good practical witch. Nonsense to that, I say.
And certainly do not be made to feel that as a witch, you must spend all this precious time and energy to militantly sniff out any potential little issue or problem to magic upon.
Rather, this post strives to do two things:
Give you a toolset to use if you constantly find yourself chasing after situations that have already gone too far, and,
Assist you with resolving difficult or delicate situations.
If neither of these things particularly apply to you, toss this post in the filing cabinet and pull it out if you need it later; or disregard it altogether.
What about talking to your guiding spirits?
Listen, I know this is a post series on "animistic, spirit-oriented spellcasting." But here's the thing:
Recognizing and honoring spirits, and inviting & paying for their help, is not the same thing as being able to speak to spirits or being able to acquire or meet spirit guides.
This isn't a spirit-working series. Whenever we get to the practical magic part, it's going to be so practical and spirit-oriented it's going to be bonkers. You'll be like woah, yeah, this is about spirits for sure.
But just because it's about them, doesn't mean people have to be able to commune with them in a two-way conversation.
So yes, if you are able to speak to gods, ancestors, and/or spirits and you can just call on them and ask for their input and advice, definitely do so! (Although knowing how the spirit world can be, they might tell you to pull out your oracle and figure it out yourself!)
