Known issues The bed is only accessible from the left side as the path to the right side is unfortunately blocked by the punchbag in the corner (or by its huge footprint, to be precise). So if you want two sims to sleep in the bed, one will either have to scoot over or you'll have to delete the punchbag. (As I only imagined one person to live in this apt., for me it didn't matter that much and it was more important for me to keep the punchbag, but it might be annoying if you want to use it differently.)

And there was a problem with my sim not using the free kitchen counter (I was ranting about it in this post). After an hour of playtesting and almost losing my mind, it seems this was either caused by a bug or by my save being corrupted or something... So you might encounter the same issue or not, but as far as I'm aware, it's not caused by the way the kitchen is built...

Sorry for these inconveniences, everything else should work fine.

Way too long Backstory Ever since he was a teen, Piet was involved in criminal activities. From pickpocketing and shoplifting he eventually got to bigger thefts and burglary. It was basically the only thing he knew, and the people who introduced him to this life felt way more like family than his own one.

But when one of their jobs went wrong, he ended up in prison. Now, some years later, he's been released and needs to find a way to start anew. As he doesn't have his old apartment anymore, he had to find a new place to stay and eventually could rent a cheap, run-down basement flat in the old town of Britechester. Together with his friends, he tried to fix up the place as much as he could and furnish it with what was left from his old belongings and whatever other stuff they could find. The apartment is still grungy and doesn't feel much like a home, but at least there was space for his favourite bands' posters and the old lighthouse painting, and for now that will have to do.

As much as he would love to start completely from scratch and leave his past behind, Piet feels the life he desires is out of reach for him, for various reasons. And with old habits and acquaintances keeping a grip on him, will anything ever actually change or will he end up choosing his old familiar path again?

Playtested (Long story short, there's a weird issue with the kitchen where, if a sim takes out ingredients from the fridge, they'll drop them as if the counters and stove were blocked, but if you then click on the ingredients and choose 'Continue', the cooking task gets completed as usual. You can read more about this problem in this post. Unfortunately, I really have no idea how to fix this on my end.)

Tracy Kinsman's a composer who's been working with various great musicians over the years, but most of the time, she's writing scores for smaller movies, series and videogames. She might not be super famous, but is well known and loved among fellow artists and fans of the genre.

But despite her success, she's been feeling stuck lately. When she started her career, her ambition was to one day leave her hometown Britechester behind, go to Del Sol Valley and work for big movie productions. Now, twenty years later, this goal still seems out of reach. It's not that she's not thankful for everything she has achieved, or isn't enjoying her current projects. It's not even that she doesn't like living in Britechester, on the contrary, she loves the musical scene of the town and has many friends there. But she can't help but wondering if this is it, if this is how she'll spend the rest of her life. Wouldn't it still be possible for her to change something, to reach further? She's almost feeling guilty for considering this. Should she really keep chasing these old dreams, or would it be better to just be content with what she's got, and make the best out of it?

Maybe this is also why she never moved out of her old apartment, where she's been living for many years now. She could easily afford a small house around Britechester, but this would really feel like settling down for good, deciding to stay forever.

Tracy doesn't know how to decide. Will she ever even get an opportunity to make her wish come true - and if she got it, would she actually take it?

Under the cut: a short (?) backstory for the sim living in this apt.

Following his family's long tradition, Theo has enroled at Britechester University to study law. He has even found a nice oldtown apartment to furnish completely to his liking (though he could do without the annoying neighbours...) and most importantly, some friends with similar interests. But it doesn't take too long for him to realise that his main subject doesn't fill him with the interest and passion he hoped it would. He feels way more in his element in the literature and especially history lectures, but is hesitant to change courses: not only would his family have no understanding for this decision, but he's also very unsure about where it would take him. For the first time, he's in doubt about how he wants his future to look like. Even more so as he's getting to know his neighbours better and their lifes suddenly become more entwined than he would've expected. So will he figure out which way to go?

The build tour part ended up way longer than I wanted it to be because I cannot shut the fuck up but I included time stamps so you could just jump straight to the apartment renovation if you want...

Barty Jenkins has been living in the groundfloor apartment of Honeydew Houses for many years. As the caretaker, he's doing small repairs around the house, keeping the shared spaces in good shape and helping out the other tenants. He's friendly and attentive and therefore quite popular with the neighbours, and he's always willing to listen if they have any problems or just need someone to talk. Still most of the time he's rather keeping to himself, and actually, he never really talks about his own life and past. It seems he doesn't have any family, except for his cat Pippa. But maybe the other tenants don't know him as well as they think?

Known issues For some reasons sims can't seem to take dirty dishes from the dining table after they finished eating, so you might have to drag them over to one of the kitchen counters manually for your sims to be able to wash them. Also my sim couldn't use the Cottage Living wardrobe with the mirror attached to it because there apparently wasn't enough space, so I placed a wall-mounted mirror from basegame atop of it. Which doesn't look ideal, but at least there's a functional mirror now and I still could keep this wardrobe because I really liked how it looked in this space. Sorry for these inconveniences, everything else should work fine though!

Backstory for the sim living in this apt. under the cut...

Farid's talent as a painter and overboarding creativity got him a scholarship for Britechester's prestigious art study course. And it even enabled him to use his saved money for his own small attic flat in the old town. Not far from campus at all, so he can walk there or go by bike everyday. At least, that's what he used to do. It's been some time since they set foot on university ground, but they're trying their best not to talk about it. After all, how could they possibly explain to someone else what they cannot even fully explain to themselves? Nobody would understand anyways. Maybe it's the pressure, the struggle to meet deadlines or something else? Whatever may be the reason for his problems, Farid's more and more unsure if this path was right for him in the first place. Has he even got enough talent? Inspiration comes and goes, often strikes in the middle of the night out of all times (much to his downstairs neighbour Theo's regret...), but there are weeks when he feels unable to do a single brush stroke, and then, he feels he does not even have a distinguished style! And don't they also have a lot of other interests they could spend their time and life with? Maybe they should try something completely different! Why should they actually settle on one specific path so soon? While these thoughts keep plagueing Farid day and night, he usually just hides his worries from his friends and his neighbors behind a grin and a joke. In fact, most of the time he really seems like the most cheerful and carefree person around, like someone nothing could rob of their confidence and good humour, and he never fails to put a smile on the face of his neighbours when he meets them in the hallway (well, except for Theo Fairley, but that's a different story). And sometimes he can almost convince himself, that everything's fine actually. Sometimes, in another sleepless night, when the music's loud enough and he doesn't run out of distractions. But for how long can they go on like this?

Jeannie got pregnant when she was only 17. Although she obviously hadn't planned to be a mom just yet, she decided to keep the baby. Her boyfriend of that time and father of her child however really wasn't interested in being a dad at that young age, and her family, who she already had a difficult relationship with, didn't react well either and instead held it against her that she'd acted too careless and had herself to blame for this situation. So most of the time, Jeannie had to get around on her own.

When her daughter Elsa was a toddler, Jeannie could convince her family to help her move to a better part of the town, and this is how she got the apartment at the old townhouse at Honeydew Fields. Although now she's even more struggling to make ends meet, she feels it's a much better place for Elsa to grow up.

Elsa means everything to her and she'd do anything to ensure she has a good childhood, even if it means working in two jobs and doing double shifts. With the money she saved over the years and her creativity and resourcefulness, she managed to turn their apartment into a cozy, cheerful home. It's a mix of cheap IKEA furniture, second-hand finds and self-built stuff, but Jeannie seems to have a talent for making the best out of what she has to work with; she revamped and customized some of the furniture and combined everything in a way that makes the small space look quite cohesive, and not necessarily like it was furnished on a budget. Also Barty Jenkins, the caretaker, has a soft spot for her and tries to help her where he can.

Elsa, who is about seven years old now, loves her mom a lot and really looks up to her. They share the same interest in creative activities and often spend time together doing diy projects, drawing and crafting. Overall, she's a cheerful and lively child, although lately she feels her mom has changed a little, as she's often distracted and not as light-hearted as she always seemed to be.

Jeannie in fact tries to hide her struggles from Elsa, and doesn't want her to know about their financial problems and to give her anything to worry about. But she can't deny she's been feeling very tired and exhausted lately, and she can't even remember when was the last time she did anything just for herself, if there ever was a time when being overwhelmed wasn't the default state.

So for how much longer will she be able to hide her feelings from her daughter? Should she hide them in the first place? And is there any chance that life will ever get easier for her, and more hopeful?

(Yeah, I kind of feel I should make separate posts for these backstories because they are really getting out of hand... But thank you so much if you read until here!)

A small, somewhat Scandinavian inspired bungalow, set next to a little lake surrounded by birch trees and reed, perfect for a family of two parents and two children who love nature and a cosy atmosphere. The interior is a sort of IKEA inspired mix of modern and rustic style kept in soft pastel colours. On the outside, sims can spend their time with swimming in the lake, gardening, observing the night sky with the telescope, having a barbecue and more!

Playtested (Until I playtested it I wasn’t aware that sims cannot access the corner bench if there are chairs attached to the table as well, but because I liked the look and they’re functional I left the chairs there. If you want your sims to sit on the bench while eating you’ll have to delete them though. Also, the small wooden bench between the doors is only decorative, but if you want sims to use it, you’ll simply have to delete the journal.)
