Hi Joy! Congratulations on taking down your old monitor! I know you won’t get this straight away because you’re on limited screen time right now, but I was wondering if you’ve considered renting an OLED monitor for a week or a month, to make sure it works for you, before you buy one? There seem to be a lot of companies that rent out high end monitors (typically for events and things) in america, though I don’t remember exactly where you are. It’s quite common here to rent accessibility devices rather than buy them, so it just jumped to mind, sorry if it’s not a good suggestion (definitely not trying to give unsolicited advice, or waste your time with silly suggestions!). Sending best wishes for your wretched fleshvessel, I’m so glad you have a lead on a screen that might help!
Thank you, the wretched fleshvessel appreciates the well wishes.
And the place Mothman is going to buy my screen(s) from allows for 30 day returns out of the box so I’m going to try them for a month and see how they work out, but I’ll maybe see if there are any rental options near us too.
My reaction is pretty much instant (more than 20 mins with an LED screen and my vertigo kicks in. 5 minutes if the screen has any sort of curve. Then I feel like I’m on a boat 😵💫) so hopefully that will be enough of a trial period to make sure they work for me.

Home is Where the Heart is (Part One) || Farmer!Rick Grimes (TWD) x Teacher!GN!reader AU
AVAILABLE ON AO3
Inspiration: Like Real People Do by Hozier.
Summary: Your life was spinning out of control, you knew that. After a string of particularly shattering events, you decided it was time to start anew. With a little help from one of your Grandma's rentals, you found yourself in the small town of Alexandria. The last thing you expected was your neighbor, Rick Grimes.
TWS: starting over, and identity crisis.
[[A/N: Thanks to @imaginemyfavoritefics for the name idea. The vibes of this are hallmark forward, so expect something rather cheesy. Thanks for reading!! ]]
You weren't running, you rationalized deep in your head -almost as if on instinct. You were an adult, you could deal with adult problems -like relationship issues, you just wanted to... you just needed a break. A breather even. Plus, they needed a teacher -it was practically destiny.
So, why did it feel like you were running?
You hadn't had a serious job in Atlanta, just an assistant, and as much as you loved those kids, you needed to do your job. When it felt like everything was going wrong in the world (and it was-), you still had teaching. It felt like what you were supposed to do, it was a reprieve from... everything else. So, even with a fresh start, you still needed teaching.
The transitions between cities bright against the landscape into more timid more rural areas was something you found somehow conflicting. You'd spent the last few years in the city, busy nights with a constant buzz of noise -cars honking, people talking, street performers... As it got quieter, there were fewer people on the road and the tall buildings turned into trees scrapping the sky; it was all a little surreal.
And it struck you then, you weren't scared -not really. Not scared to uproot everything and start over, it made you wonder bad it had gotten without you knowing.
"Okay," you hummed, turning down a sort of suburban road -houses every little bit, but much farther apart than the tight compression of a culdesac, "-1259, little white house-"
Your Grandma had called you at least 10 times ensuring you'd remembered the address -as if it wasn't written in your GPS. But as it turns out, back on these roads, just off what you assumed to be the town center, Google had no fucking clue where you were. So, perhaps you should thank her, actually.
"1259," you muttered, again -eyes focused out your passenger side, trying to see the addresses, "-little white house-"
And then, someone tapped on your driver's window.
"'Ay, ya need somethin'?"
You spun around in your driver's seat quickly, matching a man's -tall, brunette, brown-eyed. He wore some assortment of a leather vest and seemed to have been busy prior -you could see the dirt dusted under his fingernails and staining his jeans. The second thing you noticed was his tone wasn't friendly.
Maybe he thought you were nosing around in something you shouldn't.
"I, uh, yeah-" you rolled down your window, -briefly wondering how long it had been since you met somebody new, "-I'm trying to get to 1259? It's a uh, little white-"
"No, no," he echoed -interrupting you, less confrontational, "-I kno' the place, got a friend 'at lives near ya. Just follow me."
And without another word, he waltzed off in front of you -focusing succinctly on a motorcycle. An old one, by the looks of it, well-maintained though -maybe there's an auto shop around here?
The purr of the engine was loud, even through your rolled-up windows. Something in you had expected heads to pop out of windows -words yelled, so when they didn't... you assumed he was a regular here.
Cranking your car, you slowly cruised to follow him. He seemed to be attentive to you being behind him -driving slow when you were certain it had seen far faster speeds. Maybe even earlier today actually-
You appreciated it, nonetheless.
It was a short journey, a few more turns, and a little bit more driving down roads aimlessly. All things considered though, you were very close to the center of town -where everything was sold and the only stores miles in any direction resided. So, you could work with it.
That being said, where the house was wasn't exactly suburban. There weren't pristine sidewalks and crosswalks, or only little patches of grass here and there. You had a yard -a flourishing yard with trees and flowers and just... open space.
The neighbors were close enough that you could see the house -a surprising sort of light blue paneling, but you could definitely see that their fence far surpassed your own. Their yard seemed almost to last forever, you could even see a barn far back from the back of the house -red, yes, but very worn by the weather, and if you truly listened you could actually hear the shuffle of some livestock.
Okay, so next door to a farm, you told yourself -lightly, -totally can do this.
Without another thought the man pulled off to the side in front of you -making way for you to pull into the driveway. A smooth sort of ease on the bike that made you assume he had years of practice. He certainly looked the part.
You got out of your car, roaming close to him at a comfortable distance (for him or you weren't sure). He didn't seem the type to want strangers close, but then again you weren't really, either.
"Thank you," you started, kind of awkwardly but you were meeting someone new so you let it slide -tone taking a casual sort of amusement, "-I appreciate the help. I know I would've been out there for hours if-"
"Don't sweat it," he echoed -kind of coldly but you didn't know him well enough to assume he meant it that way, "-anythin' else?"
"Uh," you started, "-the Elementary? It's back by the center, right?"
"Yep, can't miss it," he answered, shortly, "-if ya need anythin' else, I'm only a few houses down. Otherwise, people 'round 'ere are pretty friendly."
You smiled -at your very first success, "Okay, thank you, really... uh...?"
"Daryl," he puffed out -making no effort to move from his motorcycle, "-Daryl Dixon."
"Y/N," you offered back, "-Y/N Y/L/N."
And without another word -only a single swift nod of his head, he was gone. It was such a quick exchange that you almost thought for a moment you dreamed it -that you'd somehow gotten the memo of where the house was and he didn't exist at all. Which, to be fair, at the rate your brain was firing could definitely be plausible. You were a mix of something between relentlessly tired from the drive, and insanely stressed because well... You'd just up and moved your whole life for good reason, but still.
"Everythin' alright?"
You blinked and were met with yet another unknown face. Not that you expected to know anyone here -other than maybe a few faces your Grandma had stories of. But this man... you would've known him.
Tall with a head of brunette curls matted in a sort of dirt -the same dusted across his shoulders, you guessed, and encrusted into his fingernails. His eyes were a sort of blue that you considered people write poems about and along his tan jaw was a big bushy beard -something about it was untamed. Like he hadn't cared to brush through it that morning, or maybe just hadn't cared for it for a while. Still, somehow he looked good. Handsome, even.
"Oh, yeah, sorry-" you started -trying to calm the flush of him just waiting while you downright ogled him, "-I just, I got some help finding my new place. Kind of zoned out there, but I'm... I'm fine, really."
He raised an eyebrow, intently, "Ya sure?"
"Yeah, yeah," you softened slightly at the concern his tone held -something in you aching in realizing you hadn’t been concerned over in so long, "-just tired. 'Been a long drive."
"Where'd ya drive from?"
"Atlanta," you answered -far easier than you intended to (there was just something about him-).
"A very long drive," he chuckled -low timber of his voice rattling through your bones (something in you stiffened -not again), "-ya need any help with anythin'? I got some free hands."
"If you're not busy," you countered -exhaustion a distant rattle in the back of your body, ever present.
"Nah," he reassured, blue eyes flickering over you, "-I got stuff 'at can wait. If you don't mind waitin' a minute, I can get my son to help too."
"Well..." you responded, slow and awkward, "-thank you."
"No, really," he echoed, "-ain't a problem. I'm Rick, by the way, Rick Grimes."
You smiled, maybe a bit less of a polite one and more genuine then, "Y/N, Y/N Y/L/N. Do you... Do you live around here?"
Rick laughed -a sort of deep chuckle that mostly felt warm in tone as he roamed towards some of the boxes, "Yeah, I'm uh... I'm actually y'er neighbor."
"Oh," you echoed out, as he seamlessly picked up three -like it was as light as a feather, "-really?"
"Yea'-" he spoke, hoisting up the boxes slightly and you suddenly realized just how snug his t-shirt was, "-blue house, big farm-"
And despite the flatline of your brain then, you still managed to remember the large plot of land right next to yours. The beautiful blue house was his, of course it was-
Handsome, strong, probably married neighbor, you tsked yourself -remembering the mention of a son, -totally can handle this. Totally cool with this.
This trip wasn't to ogle neighbors, it was to care for yourself and start fresh, and further your career-
"You okay?"
"What?" You startled in place, merely jumping actually, "-oh, yeah, just... a lot to do. And even more tomorrow."
He tilted his head slightly, eyes sweeping over you -like he couldn't read you, "Take it day by day, 'sure it'll all work out."
Correction. Handsome, strong, caring, probably married neighbor, you ran through your head -words anything but at your leisure.
God, you were so fucked.

Viva Las Vegas - Johnny Knoxville
Pairing: Johnny Knoxville x Fem! Reader
Author’s Note: This is Johnny and Babydoll’s wedding in Vegas! Enjoy!
NOT MY GIF
They pulled into Las Vegas around 4:30 p.m. While the flight was short, the day felt like it was dragging on slowly. Anticipation and excitement filled both of Y/N and Johnny as the moment was slowly making its way.
They stopped at the car rental place near the airport and while Johnny filled out the forms, Y/N was on the phone with her best friend, Whitney.
“Are you getting excited?”
“Yeah! I mean, I feel excited and nervous and ready. Mostly ready.”
“Well, I wish I was there but I know you’ll look beautiful!I’ll be there for the party when you two love birds get back.”
“Of course! I’ll talk to you later. Love you!”
“Love you too, Mrs. Clapp!”
Y/N hung, butterflies fluttering at the sound of being called Mrs. Clapp. She could get used having his last name.
“You ready, Babydoll?” Johnny asked, cutting into her thoughts.
She nodded and took his hand. He led her outside to the car rental parking lot before approaching a white 1990 Ford mustang convertible.
“Ain’t she a beauty?” he asked.
“She is, but we should really find our a car because-.”
“This is our car.”
Y/N whipped her head to her soon-to-be husband. “PJ, you didn’t.”
“I don’t wanna hear you arguing,” he said. “It’s our special day, remember?”
She kissed his cheek. “I was just gonna say that it’s perfect.”
“Good.” He raced over to the passenger side and opened the door. “Now get in.”
===================================
The second they got into their hotel room, Y/N hopped in the shower. As she combed through her hair, washing out the conditioner, her mind wandered.
During the drive to the hotel, she couldn’t keep her eyes off Johnny. In a matter of hours, he would be her husband. The man she met on the set of “Jackass” who made her blush like a schoolgirl was now becoming her husband.
She had built of a life with him. They traded weekend shifts at each other’s apartments for a house and then separate hotel rooms for just one room during “Jackass” productions.
Soon, they would solidify their new life.
The sound of the shower curtain ring screeching interrupted her thoughts and she turned to see Johnny stepping in. He smiled at her adoringly, wrapping his arms from behind her.
“What’re you doing, my love?” she asked.
“Figured I’d save us some time and hop in the shower too,” he replied, placing a gentle kiss on her bare shoulder.
She hummed, turning around to throw her arms around his neck as his hands fell to her waist. “That’s all you’re doing, huh?”
“Maybe try to sneak in some fun before we head to the chapel,” he continued. “Just one last time before we make it official.”
“Youre playing a very dangerous game, Clapp.”
“The best kind of game.”
Their lips met as he used one hand to grab ahold of the back of her head, his fingers tangling into her wet hair. He wasn’t playing around, fighting to be the one in control.
But she pulled back and smile, keeping her eyes on him as she reached back to turn off the shower.
“You might wanna take a cold shower,” she remarked.
She pat his bare chest and stepped out. He pouted his lips. “C’mon, cutie!”
Sh ewrapped a towel around her body. “Don’t give me that face. You have all night to do whatever you want to me.”
He grinned. “Whatever I want?”
“As long as you don’t run out on me tonight.”
“I would never. You’re stuck with me forever!”
===================================
After getting ready in the hotel, she and Johnny made their way to the chapel. Both of them carried their wedding attire in garment bags in the event Johnny was stopped by a fan.
During the drive, her stomach twisted and turned in anticipation as her heart raced. She reached over to grab his free hand, which he welcomed.
They pulled into the parking lot of the chapel and the real countdown began.
She checked in at the front before she and Johnny broke apart to get changed.
The reality of it truly set in the moment she put on her wedding dress.
The satin white dress had a halter plunge cowl neckline that playfully teased her boobs. The bottom half of dress softly hugged her hips and butt.
She paired the dress with her mother’s pearl droplet earrings.
She smiled as she looked in the mirror. She felt like a goddess who descended from Mount Olympus. She knew Johnny was gonna lose his shit.
When she walked out of the bathroom, she handed the employee her garment bag with her street clothes. She looked to see Johnny standing in the lobby in a fitted black tuxedo and his signature red converse.
Here it goes.
She cleared her throat as she made her way to him. He turned to face her, his expression softening. His dark brown eyes twinkled in amazement as tears began to pool in his eyes.
“Babydoll,” he breathed. “You look…wow.”
“You like it?” she laughed, slightly nervous.
“You’re so beautiful,” he whispered. “So, so, beautiful.”
He wiped his eyes, laughing softly. “Goddamit.”
His tears brought tears to her own eyes. She tried to keep her composure as she took her hands in his. “I’m really glad you like it.”
He gave her hands a squeeze. “No turning back now.”
“No turning back now,” she agreed. “It’s us against the world.”
Then she remembered something.
“Hey, so, before you go, in,” she began, “I decided not to go through with an Elvis impersonator.”
Before he could even respond, a deep southern drawl chimed in.
“Ya’all the Clapp couple?”
Johnny’s eyes widened at the Johnny Cash impersonator standing in front of them. Not only did this man have the accent down pat, but he looked awfully like the legend himself.
“We are,” Y/N confirmed with a smile.
“Great. We have a couple employees who are willing to be witnesses.” He turned to Johnny. “You ready, son?”
Johnny nodded his head, willing to go wherever Fake Johnny Cash told him to go.
Fake Johnny Cash pat his shoulder. “Follow me, son. Let’s get this started.”
“I…yeah, ok.”
Johnny turned to Y/N and mouthed “I love you so fucking much.”
She chuckled as she watched him follow Fake Johnny Cash inside the chapel.
She took a moment to herself, smoothing out her dress with the palm of her hands. Before taking a step, she heard, “oh Miss!”
She turned to see the woman from the front desk with a makeshift bouquet of fake flowers.
“Every bride needs one,” she winked.
“Thank you so much,” Y/N said,
The front desk woman hurried off as Y/N took a deep breath and walked through the doors.
As she made her way into the small and quaint chapel, Fake Johnny Cash serenaded her with “Walk the Line.”
She smile, keeping her eyes on Johnny who was beaming at her.
I keep a close watch on this heart of mine
I keep my eyes wide open all the time I keep a close watch on this heart of mine
I keep my eyes wide open all the time
I keep the ends out for the tie that binds
Because you're mine, I walk the line
I find it very, very easy to be true
I find myself alone when each day is through
Yes, I'll admit that I'm a fool for you
Because you're mine, I walk the line
I keep the ends out for the tie that binds
Because you're mine, I walk the line
When she finally stood beside Johnny, Fake Johnny Cash set down the guitar and stood at the podium.
“Folks, we’re gathered here tonight because these two kids decided they wanted to walk the line together for the rest of their lives,” Fake Johnny Cash said.
As Fake Johnny Cash proceeded with his sermon, Y/N kept her eyes on Johnny. This was it. The second they kissed, they would officially become man and wife. They could start their life.
“Do you, Y/N M/N L/N, take Phillip John Clapp to be your lawfully wedded husband?” Fake Johnny Cash asked Y/N.
“I do,” she nodded, tears pooling in her eyes as she slid the silver wedding band on Johnny’s ring finger.
“And do you, Phillip John Clapp take Y/N M/N L/N to be your lawfully wedded wife?”
“I do,” he replied, sliding the silver band on her ring finger.
“Well, then. By the power vested in me and in the state of Nevada, I now pronounce you husband and wife. Son, you may now-.”
Johnny wasted no time as he grabbed Y/N’s face and pulled her in for a kiss. They tuned out both Fake Johnny Cash and the employees who applauded the couple.
He pulled back, resting his forehead against hers.
“I love you, Babydoll,” he whispered.
“I love you too, PJ.”
=======================================
The second they were done with the photos and the check out process, Johnny and Y/N rushed to their convertible.
“We’re fuckin’ married!” Y/N screamed out at the night as they drove through the city to get back to the hotel.
“HELL YEAH WE ARE!”Johnny yelled, raising one fist while holding the wheel with the other.
The second the car came to a stop at a red light, Y/N leaned over the console, giving Johnny a kiss on the cheek.
“So what’s next, Mr. Clapp?” she asked. “You got the girl of your dreams for the rest of your life. How are you gonna celebrate?”
He grabbed her hand and kissed it.
“Great question, Mrs. Clapp,” he said. “I actually have a couple ideas.”

Baji: Ohoo. I’ll crush you next time too.
松野千冬:次はぜってぇ2人で勝ってやる!!
Chifuyu: Next time, the both of us are totally gonna beat you!!
・・・*
*In this part, there’s a dialogue going on that it’s not written in the game. I have to admit, I don’t understand all of it as there’s some vocab I don’t know (particulary the verb Baji uses when he speaks) and I don’t have the confidence to actually write the dialogue down in Japanese. I tried to catch some of the words, but it’s really difficult at the moment. I’m truly sorry for this! If there’s anybody that is up to help me figure out what they exactly say, I would appreciate it a lot!
I can make a sum up of it, though: Baji says something about Pah and Peh being over there (which makes me think that they are as wet as Takemichi and Kazutora). Takemichi worries about them, but Kazutora assures Takemichi that they will be okay, as they’re tough guys. After that, I think Chifuyu points out a place where Takemichi and Kazutora can pick up some towels to get dry and Takemichi thanks him!
#pazuribe#pazuribe translation#tokyo revengers pazuribe#puzz reve#tokyo revengers#tokyo revengers puzz reve#hanagaki takemichi#chifuyu matsuno#baji keisuke#hanemiya kazutora#baji is so extremely mean for doing that to them but at the same time that's kind of hilarious#baji knowing what was going to happen makes me think that it's not his first time there... does he really like dolphins?#also takemichi saying he wants to go with hina too... best boyfriend ever#kazutora being confused about the show though... i know he's definitely against animal cruelty#also kazutora not knowing how to lose... that's really him#chifuyu being so sarcastic about them being drenched and saying the look handsome... he's such a tease#a lot of comments but i truly enjoyed working on this translation and this event!

'Wishful Thinking' (Nanami Kento x OC) - Part 2
(Jujutsu Kaisen Fanfiction)
Readers be warned: this fanfiction is full of heavy spoilers from the tailend of Jujutsu Kaisen's second season (the Shibuya Incident). If you are not yet familiar with what happens in that arc, I would bookmark this series to come back to when you have.
Before you read this, take a moment to check out Himawari's character sheet. Otherwise, some of the following events may not make a whole lot of sense. Enjoy!
(Temporary image of Himawari made in the Picrew creator- try it yourself here!)
General Warnings: SFW, slight fluff, but not much (yet), mostly exposition
♡
Well, this is unexpected...
Nanami was kneeling beside an unconscious Himawari, after having been ten hours' dead only minutes ago. He dared not stand, uncertain of how his body would respond to drastic movement after having spent the past few hours in rigor mortis.
"Miss Sasaki?" He attempted to wake her, shaking her shoulder. Her limp form offered no response. "Damn. She's out cold."
Somewhere on the surface above the subway, the echoes of a battle could be heard. For a brief moment, Nanami considered hiding Himawari somewhere safe so he could try to aid the other sorcerers, but it was painfully obvious to him that since he'd reawakened, he could hardly feel his cursed energy anymore.
It's still there... Nanami focused his attention inward in hopes of summoning even just a small amount to manifest in his palm, but to no avail. But I can't access it. I'd only be a liability if I were to try to fight now.
"Tsk!" He clicked his tongue. I suppose the best thing I could do now is get us both away from Shibuya; at least until I can recover.
He inspected the sleeping Himawari and frowned. Her face was contorted into a faintly-pained expression, her arms and collarbone were dappled with what appeared to be age spots, and her silver hair was sprawled around her head across the subway floor, tendrils of stray hair plastered to her sweat-soaked skin. Her hair was light brown before...
Nanami used his hand to steady himself on his knee so he could pull himself up to his feet. "I feel so much weaker than I think I ever have..." He picked up his blunt wrapped sword and tucked it under his arm before taking a moment to carefully pick up each of Himawari's trademark senbon and tucking them back in her pack. I can safely assume my apartment is rubble by now - and Jujutsu High is probably no safer than Shibuya. Our options are limited. I wonder...
Nanami slid Himawari's wallet out from her pack with an apology under his breath to the unconscious sorceress, and checked the address on her ID. Hopefully she lives in a part of the city that hasn't been decimated yet. To his relief, her address appeared to be somewhere out beyond the city limits. Good. If I can get us there, we might survive the night.
Placing her wallet and ID neatly in her bag, he scooped Himawari into his arms and stood with a heavy sigh. He glanced down at the sound of a whine to see Zun-Zun looking up at him. "Well? I assume you can walk. Come on, dog. You can follow me."
Zun-Zun pitter-pattered alongside Nanami as he warily carried Himawari in his arms, trudging through the subway tunnels, now eerily silent.
♡
By some miracle, nearly two hours later, they had made it to a small shopping district near the edge of the city. Nanami had managed to pick up a small selection of clothing from a store that had fortunately been open late and an old rental car that he hoped would get them where they needed to go.
"This is turning into an expensive evening," he sighed to himself, carefully tucking Himawari into the passenger's seat and fastening her seatbelt, setting the incline of the seat so she could lay back slightly. Zun-Zun lay curled up on the back seat beside the cloth bag that contained the clothing he'd bought. "We should only be about 20 minutes out. Hang on, Miss Sasaki. I'll get you home in one piece."
Nanami put the car into drive and sped off into the night in silence, the skies alight with the soft pink hues of the approaching sunrise.
♡
Nanami's assumption had been correct - the drive had only taken about half an hour. As the car trudged along the dusty side road, a small, traditional and well-kept house came into view, nestled among a smattering of trees and a garden that had clearly been carefully maintained.
Opening the car door, he was instantly greeted by a humid, salty breeze that reminded him the ocean was nearby. The air was crisp and clean, and the floral scent of the surrounding garden filled Nanami's nostrils, making him feel more at ease. Opening the passenger door, the still-sleeping Himawari flopped to the side. He unfastened the seatbelt and curled his arms under her back and in the crook of her knees, lifting her out of the car. As he turned to approach the house, Zun-Zun skittered out from the back seat and followed them to the front door.
To his surprise, the sliding front door had wooden framing with frosted glass panes, and bore no locking mechanism. He simply slid the door open with a gentle push of his foot. Does she have no concept of personal security...? Shaking his head in disapproval, he stepped beyond the entryway.
The house looked no larger inside than it did outside. There appeared to be only a single level, mostly consisting of one large room with a small kitchen and a living room. There appeared to be only three areas beyond the main room; one to the outdoor patio, one to a bedroom, and one to a small hallway with what he could assume to be a washroom and a storage closet. Everything was kept relatively tidy, and in the air, he could still smell the scents from the garden.
He shuffled out of his shoes and stepped beyond the threshold of the genkan and onto the cherry wood of the main floor. Making his way into the bedroom, he laid Himawari carefully on the bed in a recovery position. He wiped his brow with a forearm, suddenly reminded of just how filthy he was, still covered in dirt, grime, blood, and who knows what else.
"I hope you don't mind, but I should use your shower," Nanami told the unconscious Himawari. "Your furniture will thank me."
He quickly scooped up Zun-Zun before she managed to hop onto the bed with her. "Oh, no you don't," he scolded. "You're no cleaner than I am. You can curl up with her after you've had a bath."
Zun-Zun whined in protest, but didn't bother to struggle. After placing a wooden plank in the jam of the front door, he headed to the bathroom.
♡
About an hour later, Nanami and Zun-Zun emerged from the bathroom. He fastened the buttons of the off-white collared shirt, leaving it untucked from the tan pleated pants he'd bought, grateful the fabrics were as light as they were. After the feeling of the rushing water beating against his skin, he realized just how sore and tender his burns were. Donning a makeshift eyepatch out of gauze and medical tape from Himawari's first aid kit, Nanami frowned at his reflection in the mirror. It's going to take some time getting used to only having one eye...
He was brought out of the moment by a quiet 'brrt' noise from behind him.
"Hm?" He looked down to the source of the noise to see a dusty grey cat with sky blue eyes looking up at him curiously. "A cat?"
As if to answer him, the grey cat gave a gentle chirp, rubbing up against his pant leg, seemingly attempting to lead him somewhere.
Nanami followed the cat to a set of empty pet food dishes by the wall across from the kitchen. "Oh, I see. You're hungry." He looked around and found the kitchen pantry; on the top shelf were a small assortment of cans with different flavours of wet cat food. He mumbled the flavors aloud. "Tuna... beef... chicken... salmon... you eat better than I do."
She mewled impatiently, quickly darting between his ankles, to her empty dish, and back to him again.
"Alright, alright," Nanami chuckled. "You don't have to use such colourful language."
The moment he peeled back the lid of a can of the chicken-flavour, another set of tiny footsteps came skittering over from behind the television set across the room. Joining the grey cat by the empty food dishes was a fluffy, black persian cat with one grey eye.
"Oh, another one?" Nanami's thin eyebrows raised in surprise as he looked around the flat for any sign of movement. "Are there any more of you?"
He opened a second can of food and shook them into the dishes, the two cats practically digging through his hand to get to it. After refilling the water dish, Zun-Zun came trotting out of the bedroom to take a drink. The cats acknowledged the puppy's presence by raising their heads for a second before going right back to eating.
"It looks like they'll get along. Good." Nanami briefly considered finding something to eat himself, but hesitated. "I already feel stange going through her cupboards and using her shower. Still, I might as well grab some water for us both. She'll be thirsty when she wakes up."
Nanami searched around the kitchen and set out two clear tumblers. In the fridge, he found a single cucumber and a small container labelled 'garden-fresh mint.' Bunching his long sleeves up to his elbows, he found a small wooden cutting board and sliced the cucumber into even medallions a half-inch thick, placing a handful of the slices into each glass, followed by a helping of ice and cold water from the dispenser attached to the fridge. Garnishing the drinks with a single sprig of mint, he pulled out two clean cloths he'd picked from the linen closet down the hall and dampened them before returning to the bedroom.
Himawari was in the same position he'd left her on the bed. He hovered a finger by her lips and felt her steady breath. Carefully setting the cucumber waters on the bedside table, he carefully repositioned her onto her back, placing the pillows behind her to keep her at a more upright position. He gently set the damp cloth over her mouth and moved a loose strand of white hair away from her face. Can't have you getting dehydrated while you're out... His eye was drawn to her long, light eyelashes and the smattering of freckles across her cheeks.
He cleared his throat and walked back to the car to bring in her bag. The sun had begun to set, leaving the garden under a haze of golden light.
"It's peaceful here." Nanami took a moment to appreciate the atmosphere. "I can see why she chooses to live out here. I don't even think I'd mind the commute if this was what I got to come home to at the end of the day..."
He headed back inside and replaced the wooden plank back in the jam of the door. Finding her phone from inside her bag, he noticed the battery was almost dead.
Hm. I'd imagine my battery's low as well. I'd better charge them both. Nanami set both phones on the bedside table, plugging them into the nearby wall outlet. Checking his phone one more time, he noticed there appeared to be no service. That's a little inconvenient...
He spotted a wicker reading chair with soft mint green cushions in the corner of the room. He carefully moved it closer to her bedside and took a seat with a huff, downing half of his drink before placing the second damp cloth over his own eyes.
The stillness of night made him feel restless and uneasy, knowing just under an hour away, a bloody battle may still be waging; a battle he could not yet justify returning to.
"I hate feeling so useless..." He sighed aloud, his chest tightening with anxiety and unease. To his surprise, he felt a light weight press onto his chest. Removing the cloth, he noticed the one-eyed cat had hopped onto his lap, gently kneading at the fabric of his shirt before settling with his chin on her chest with a pur. "Well, make yourself comfortable," Nanami sighed gruffly. Still, a part of him felt touched. The second cat followed soon after with Zun-Zun, both of them joining Himawari on her bed; Zun-Zun curled up by her feet, and the grey cat nestled onto her lap.
Nanami didn't know how long it took him to fall asleep, but at some point in the dead of night, the darkness of sleep claimed his consciousness, bringing with them the memories of screams and scattered blood.

~ To Be Continued...

Sketches I need to try to make after this chapter:
• Nanami scolding the ratty little Yorkie puppy he's carrying in the crook of his arm ('You need a bath').
• Nanami curled up on the reading chair with Kumo, with her cuddled up with Zun-Zun and Hoshi ('Well, make yourself comfortable').
• Just cat-dad Nanami in general gives me life ❤️🩹

「Memorandum a few years ago」
I was crying involuntarily.
But I've opened up the future
by pushing forward.
That's why I won't run away.
Repaint despair with a new color.
Last night I waited for hours to rent a car,
but there was a problem with the rental.
So I walked to the motel under the
cold sky and finally got there at 1:00 am.
When I found out dinner was cold rice,
my tears welled up.
Having warm rice to eat every night is
so wonderful…
Singing from "my living heart” in
all black while surrounded
by sparkling idols makes me
so nervous but when my song resonates
with your heart I cry with happiness.
I will continue to fight as the one and
only Isiliel.
sometimes m&m's inside
American chocolate bars…
chocolate in chocolate aaaaa(*o*)
I've been receiving messages
from Mexico fans for a long time
asking me to liveperformance here as well.
And I'm contacting the eventer and
working so that I can go to the near future.
I will sing to the whole world with
Mexico's "Day of the Dead" livestream.
Your words are our future!
It's difficult to continue.
But I want to continue to love.
I'm overwhelmed by life’s difficulties
and can get lost in myself.
Alone in a place where the ground was
shifting and a cold strong wind blowed,
I really felt that.
But I will always keep standing.
That’s Isiliel.
To everyone I’ve met on this path,
the greatest love and gratitude.
From today, I will head to the east coast
for the end of the tour.
I still don't know the meaning of
"it's risky to travel by car",
but the 14 hours x 3 days death relay
will start.
But anyway, I'll do my best positively
so that I can proceed while
enjoying various things!
I think.
" Wonderful memories become
treasures and strength in our heart."
Many of my expressions were influenced
by Neon Genesis Evangelion.
Yesterday Evangelion was broadcast in
my background, and I became
a part of the story and roared
with "散華一体" for the first time.
As a personal impression,
if "Myrkur" is a music
that reminds me of the texture of
dead trees in the deep forest,
"Nightwish" is
a profound velvet-like music,
and I really like both of them so much.
I could cry…
#himaplaying
I finally arrived at Chicago, the final place
of Isiliel's 1st WORLD TOUR!!
There have been various changes
in the environment,
but I will calm my mind and
do my best to send my song. GANBARU!!
#moonbowrising
Sometimes, I get attacked
by anxiety before going on stage.
But yesterday, I said to myself,
"First of all, having fun
is the most important thing.
And to work hard.
That's enough, it's definitely okay."
What I was able to say to myself
was a big growth for me.
I did it. my first time Jollibee is so good……
It was a so hard schedule,
but a lot of new things were born
among them.
Thank you for spreading Isiliel together!
I'm a metal baby now,
but I want to grow more and send music
that will keep you alive in the future.
Don't forget our treasure. See you again!

On April 21, mere miles from New York City, mankind faced its greatest enemy. It came in a form long anticipated, but never seriously expected. Beginning with only a handful of puzzle pieces, only now am I able to finally assemble the complete sequence of events. I went looking for the truth, and lord help me I found it. I witnessed the void that drives us to spend our lives cultivating an inner darkness. It's blacker than ink, darker than the grave. I was there. I touched it.
And now, I know the terrible secret of Krobaa, The Abyss That Walked! Just outside Morristown, New Jersey, Tuesday, March 30: Approximately 10:30pm. The old Kingsbridge mansion has been deserted for most of the past twenty years. The local residents whispered darkly of blasphemous rituals and human sacrifices, decades-past-- and avoided it at all costs. That has made it a perfect secluded location for Nigel Donlevy, PhD to conduct his rather unusual experiments. Where once servants of the Dark Forces defied God, Donlevy sought to subvert the laws of physics. A three time Nobel Prize nominee, Donlevy grew eccentric in the 70's and 80's, moving further and further towards the scientific fringe. Shunned by the "official" scientific community for his "radical" ideas, Donlevy withdrew into seclusion, determined to prove himself right in the end. Then, in a blink, his lifelong ambition, everything he believed in, it turned on him. I can't help but imagine that a part of him died at that moment-- and that death must have influenced what followed. Meanwhile, just across the Hudson River, a nightmare walked the Earth, demanding an enigmatic form of vengeance. The citizens of Morristown could scarcely have understood what it was they faced. Their worldview held no place for the unspeakable hunger of darkness incarnate. Carlchok would've recognized it, his filing cabinets overflowed with the secrets of the night. He'd stood against the darkness time after time, fighting it with both the ancient ways and the light shed by the printed page. All it cost him was his credibility, his career, and most of his liver. Roadmap pointed the rental car towards route 17 by the Thrifty Mart. I couldn't stop thinking about Cal. He'd gone up against things there aren't even names for, and when he wrote about it afterwards you could hear Dash Hammett weeping. The man had the holy fire once. What did it take to put it out? In a blink, everything about him changed. Suddenly, what I saw was no alien monstrosity-- but just another lonely soul cast adrift upon the vast indifference of heaven. For a fleeting moment, we looked deep into each other's eyes-- and saw mirrors. The wind gathered the ebon dust which was all that remained of Krobaa in its fleeting embrace, then scattered it in all directions. The nights've seemed a little darker ever since. But then, so have the days; even the sunniest skies dim when filtered through the terrible secret I've learned. "Y'see," he said, "this's yer basic problem in the newspaper business, kid. We don't get near break-even on sales; advertising's where we make the nut. You think the saks is gonna buy the centerspread plus four full pages with 'Moomba is Here!' in 30 point on page one?" And so the entire affair was quietly swept under a very large rug, where I've no doubt it will have plenty of company. One niggling question remains, however, which is, exactly who am I writing this for? Now that this account is nearly complete, I do believe I have an answer: for my conscience. Which is also now basically finished.
#* tbt#[[ idk what to tag this as it's ripped DIRECTLY from the comics but like. i wanted to experiment. what it would look like#[[ without all the comic stuff and whatnot. like if eddie did manage to publish this what would the readers see?#[[ i'm so so so obsessed with the fact that eddie IS a good journalist and actively wants to be one#[[ he genuinely writes well! i studied journalism and wanted to do it as a job for a time#[[ if youve never read this then. please do. it is so interesting to me#[[ that thing about seeing a mirror in the dark creature. hm#[[ this is before he met the symbiote so . lots of interesting things to think about here#[[ take note: he throws out his typewriter after this#[[ the fact that his 'its blacker than ink darker than the grave line' ( which is hard asf ) is used in a more recent issue. yeah.#[[ i love reminders that eddie was a journalist first and continues to have those skills

Experiencing Narcissism 101 - Part 3
June 24th, 2024
Here we are nearing the end of Pride Month. I’ve challenged myself to write everyday and I’ve found it very useful in examining my past and realizing that I am actually very resilient. Yesterday I wrote about events leading up to the point of coming back from a trip with John. Today, the story continues.
I put my plan into action and began taking steroids above and beyond what I needed for Testosterone Replacement Therapy. I was taking injections because my testosterone was low due to my HIV medications. I supplemented with street testosterone as did John. In the course of my doing so, I put on more than 25 pounds and ended up at 250 pounds at my maximum. I continued abusing them up until 2013 when I moved to Nova Scotia with John.
John convinced me that I should be reducing the amount of time that I worked. At that time, I was a full-time teacher, a group fitness leader at a community centre and also a mentor for a master’s program at a university. The only real solution he suggested was to move from British Columbia to Nova Scotia. The reason was due to other cities didn’t seem inviting for either of us. I did suggest Montreal, but John didn’t speak French and thought it wasn’t a good idea. That summer, we jumped on a plane and took a quick trip to Nova Scotia. We explored a place called Annapolis Valley, which is fertile area of the province. We even looked at homes, but didn’t find anything that we liked. We returned home and made our decision.
We decided we would move to Windsor, Nova Scotia in October 2013. We also got married as it seemed the right thing to do. I resigned from the school board and put the house up for sale. It sold while we were enroute. We climbed into my truck with two dogs and a cat, travelling across Canada to Nova Scotia. During the trip, we argued a lot. The shouting continued and I decided that it was just part of my new life and bit my tongue. John did berate me for being quiet, which in my mind was better than screaming back at him. We found an apartment - literally on the fly - as we went across Canada. The hardest part was finding a rental unit that accepted dogs.
We lucked out and stayed in a place in Windsor until early 2015 when we found a house on the South Shore - which later became known as Otter Cottage. During the time in Nova Scotia, John had problems finding a job. I was accepted as a substitute and started working. He didn’t and that left him open to do other things. In fact, I caught him cheating on me several times. So, we negotiated an open relationship where we would explore together to fulfill everyone’s needs.
During our time there in Windsor, I got a phone call from my doctor. She told me to go to the hospital immediately because my bloodwork indicated that I had had a heart attack. We went to emergency immediately and I discovered that I had an enlarged heart due to the large amount of steroids. I spent four days in the hospital while they did tests. John visited everyday, but complained constantly about having to drive into the city. With supervision, I weaned myself off the steroids and reduced my testosterone to the appropriate level and quit the street steroids. It was clear that I had almost killed myself. I began kicking myself for having been so stupid to abuse steroids that much to satisfy the wishes of another person.
Once into Otter Cottage, I got a job in the Halifax and ended up with a permanent position teaching French Immersion. John then decided to become a real estate agent. So, I paid for his education. During the time of moving to the South Shore, our relationship was really strained. John was constantly getting angry at just about everyone - of course, including me. He constantly seemed frustrated and I did everything I could including buying antiques for him and giving him a room to decorate. That didn’t help and we argued constantly. Several times, I told him that I had had enough. Suddenly, John would turn back to a charmer and everything was great - for a few short weeks or month.
John finished his real estate school and managed to sell at least three properties, using a car that I had bought for him. At the same time, I discovered that he was still cheating on me. In late 2016, John mentioned that his former employer in Montreal had suggested offering him a job. I had had enough of all the nonsense. When I heard that, I told John that I wanted him to take the job and be out of the house by next week. So, he packed the car with everything he could and then moved everything he thought belonged to him into the antique room he had decorated. He went to Montreal and suddenly I felt a real relief - until the divorce proceedings started.
In the six years we were together, John paid rent three months in the time we were in my house in Vancouver. He bought groceries maybe twice. In Nova Scotia, he paid for nothing. I didn’t see any of the profits from the sales of the properties he had sold. I got a lawyer and proceeded with the divorce. We had to live apart for at least a year before we could legally divorce. That year was a year from hell for me.
John, now in Montreal, would contact me and screamed at me for not moving the stuff he wanted to Montreal. I told him that the lawyer told me to do that until we had settled the divorce. His request was half of everything. I provided all my receipts for everything, showing that John had paid little. He never paid for heating, mortgage payments, gym fees, and much more. During that time, John began a classic narcissistic pattern - he tried to show me how he was a victim. He sent me pictures of him in the hospital. He sent me pictures of his empty fridge. He called me constantly asking for money. I had to continue to say no. He turned several local friends against me saying I was withholding his belongings. I told those local friends that they didn’t know what was really going on. Needless to say, I didn’t continue those friendships.
The calls continued along with emails, texts until I had to block him. He even called my school during a lesson and interrupted. He called me at the gym as well, asking an attendant to find me. I put a stop to all of that. At the end of the year apart, I made him an offer and let him know that he would get nothing more. He begrudgingly accepted it and immediately demanded his things sent. I had packed them into a pod as I was sick of seeing the pile of things in the living room. In typical fashion, he demanded that I allow one of his friends to sit and watch the pod be repacked so that his belongings would be safe. Ironically, the movers told me that I had done an amazing job and that repacking wasn’t necessary! At this point, I didn’t care; he had to pay for the moving costs.
Even after the papers were signed and we were officially divorced he continued to harass me with phone calls and texts on anonymous lines. I was so tired of it that I went to the local RCMP and lodged a complaint and asked the calls, texts and emails stop. The Sûreté du Québec (the provincial police in Quebec) paid him a visit and told him that if he contacted me again, he would be arrested. That was the last time I ever heard from him. In that year and a half, he contacted me more than 668 times by various methods.
In 2018 I was officially free of John. Otter Cottage was in my name, the car payments for John’s car were now his responsibility and I began my new life as a divorced gay man. As a side note, that fall as I was cleaning the gardens, I found a pile of broken mugs, coasters and John’s medication all thrown into the bushes. It seemed that whenever he was angry, he would throw things off the verandah - just like when he used to go out and scream at the top of his lungs at the people he hated.
So what was it like to live with a narcissist? Looking at the 9 points of Special Me, I saw countless examples of all 9 points and more from him. He always though he was the most important person at all times. He felt entitled to everything without having to work for it. He was exploitative, arrogant, lacked empathy and always showed off so that others could admire him. He also was easily able to play the victim and everything that he did was turned back on my so that it was all my fault. Anyone who didn’t agree with him immediately became the enemy - me included.
I saw a counsellor and learned to deal with the aftermath of living six years with John. The counsellor suggested I buy a book called “Stop Walking on Eggshells: Taking Your Life Back When Someone You Care About Has Borderline Personality Disorder.” All what was discussed in the book, I found in John. The only thing the book didn’t help me with was getting along with him and thankfully I never wanted to do so. In the end, I believe he was also obsessive compulsive as well.
During my counselling time, I came to acknowledge my part in those six years. I had been codependent and allowed him to do all of those things. I also discovered that I had to learn to love myself, always take care of myself first before helping others and learning how a narcissist latches onto a caregiver such as myself. I forgave myself for almost killing myself on steroids to please John. I watched my health and have not abused them since.
At that point, I was really sure that I knew what the signs were and vowed to never get involved with a narcissist. Did I succeed? I’ll leave that to tomorrow’s blog… For Pride, I am celebrating my inner self and my self love. Now that I have worked on myself, someone like John would never be able to pry their way into my life.
Carpe diem, everyone.

I personally think all minorities and queers should learn how to use a firearm.
I have a few reasons for this. Hear me out.
Firstly, I know a lot of people who are scared of guns. Like, really scared of them. And like a lot of phobias, the best way to get over your fear of guns is to learn about how they work and what they can actually do. How does it go together? What's a bullet look like? Why is it shaped like that, what are all these things?
Everything has its own answer. Personally, I haver an AR-15. In like 4 days I'm gonna paint it to look like a trans flag because I can. A civilian AR-15 is something that's fun and easy to shoot without needing to get all technical and thinking about sights and scopes and carry weight, fuck that. It's just an easy to use rifle, safe to handle, and reliable. The gun itself isn't evil. Don't let fuckbois neckbeards and bootlickers evilize another inanimate object.
Secondly, knowing what a gun can and can't do can be important. Yes, they are deadly. Yes, they are dangerous. But knowing how fast you can change from one target to another can help you understand how someone else could. Protest goes south? You wanna know how long that reload is gonna be so you can get the fuck out at the best time. Another fuckboi shoots up a place people are at? Same thing, you wanna know what you can reasonably hide behind.
And lastly, the least likely thing. Like, there's almost no way this is going to happen, but fuck is it a scary thought that weighs heavily on my mind. The thought that someone is going to wish harm on you specifically and invade your home. Having a home defense weapon isn't inherently safe, and knowing how to safely and securely store your firearm and how to use it in the (again, extremely) unlikely event that someone invades your home is a prerequisite to having said firearm anywhere near your home.
TL;DR: Everyone should learn the ins and outs of how to use a gun, shoot a few of them if they can, and own one if they think it's in their own best interests. If you think it isn't, then don't own a gun. Many ranges will offer gun rentals for shooting at the range, or safety courses will often include a rental with the class.
#controversial i know#but I'm trans and I own 2 firearms#i've never needed to use either#one is for defense#and the other is strictly for fun at the range#also acab#just in case

THE LABYRINTHS
Loading Version Update 3.0
It was a chance encounter, as Bokuto worded it, to cross paths with you after classes yesterday when they, The Labyrinths, were thinking of a way to talk to you outside of class hours.
It was right before you left your college department that you saw Bokuto with someone with contrasting features. His eyes were evidently sharp, slicing through a point ahead as though he was ready to pierce through someone’s soul should they happen to displease him, but when he meets your gaze, his drastically softens. The corners of his eyes mold into a friendly greeting.
He’s beautiful and elegant in a way that’s almost perfect to be hung on a wall of a museum.
On the other hand, Bokuto’s greeting is nowhere near poised. He heaves a relieved breath as his palm caught a bead of sweat sliding at the side of his face. “Thank god, I ran into you.” His statement earns an arched brow from his company.
“That’s a step for someone who’s agnostic.” The stranger pointedly says. The remark did not sound near humorous, if anything, just blunt. Nonetheless, Bokuto giggled.
“I was thanking Benzaiten, the only god.” Your extra units on Japanese literature paid off as you catch on to what they’re talking about. Benzaiten or Benten is one of the seven gods of luck. She is also known as the goddess of music and arts alongside wealth and wisdom.
Bokuto’s friend seemed to notice you awkwardly standing, waiting for Bokuto to tell you whatever he had to. He flickers his eyes from you then back to Bokuto as if to remind his friend of your presence, which surprisingly worked.
“Oh! right, right.” Bokuto’s nails scratch lightly on his nape, “Are you free tomorrow at around five in the afternoon? We have band practice and everyone’s looking forward to meeting you.”
A chance encounter. Bokuto must be right about it since Tuesday is the only day in the week you do not have classes in the afternoon. Benzaiten must really be on Bokuto’s side.
Hence, you agreed and the conversation ended with Bokuto saying he looks forward to hearing you sing. With that, both boys resume their pace away from you, with Bokuto waving you goodbye as he walks next to his friend.
As you watch them leave, you wonder to yourself. Could that guy Bokuto failed to introduce you to be also part of the band? You recall him having an enamel pin from the Department of Letters on his tote bag. A band member from the literature department, huh? A lyricist, maybe.
Having left your thoughts unanswered, you decided to shrug it off and wait for the following day.
The next day comes and you are on your way to the address of the rental studio Bokuto told you about yesterday. You are coming from your apartment since you decided to spend the afternoon before band practice at home to prepare a song to sing with the band (in reference to the previous agreement you made with Atsumu and Bokuto).
Turning a corner, you notice an old woman in her late seventies busy in her yatai, a tiny movable food stall that she manages. Over the time you have stayed in your apartment, you have grown fond of the old woman and her delicious dishes that carry decades of culture and experience. You always make sure to drop by and greet her whenever you’re on your way home from school or your part-time job.
With her back on you, a smile adorns your face, ready to greet her. However, the second you see the plaster on her temple, your plan to ambush her in a high-spirited manner suddenly halts as your eyes round at the sight of a fresh wound covered with gauze.
“Grandma! What happened to you?” You hold her at an arm’s length gently as though you’re afraid to cause more damage, examining the material on her forehead. “Are you okay?!” Your voice increases in worry.
“The doctor said I’m okay.” The old woman waves her wrinkled boney hand in the space between the two of you as if dismissing your concern.
“But what happened?” You look at her deeply in her eyes, leveling your height to her craned back.
“I collapsed yesterday.”
“YOU COLLAPSED?!” It was not your intention to cause a scene but somehow the sudden increase in your voice attracted attention from the bystanders.
“Hush down, child. You’re hurting my ears.” Grandma still has the sass in her. Perhaps, the doctors are correct. She is indeed alright.
“H-how? Why? Were you with someone? Where was your grandchild? Was he with you?” You remember grandma telling you about her kind hearted and almost flawless (of course, coming from a proud grandmother) grandchild that she never misses to talk about on every opportunity she has.
“I am old.” Grandma chuckles. “It slipped my mind to take my medicine. The doctor said it caused my blood to drop…or rise? What was it again? Ah, I can’t remember.” She sighs before looking up to you with a gentle smile. “And yes, my grandchild was here. Oh, I’m ashamed! You keep pestering me with these questions now I am reminded of it again!” Grandma puts a hand over her forehead as the memory from yesterday flashes in her mind.
She continues. “My dear grandson has to hurry away from class because of my carelessness. I don’t want to be an old woman who needs to depend on someone for basic responsibilities such as taking medicine on time. He was so worried yesterday that he flooded my inbox with texts. Oh, that child is a bit too much sometimes. I wonder if he got it from my son, or me.” Despite the unpleasant incident, talking about her family still stretches the smile on her face. She must really adore his grandson.
“Your grandson must love you very much.” You comment, making the old woman laugh in delight.
“I guess he does, but he never tells me.”
“Saying it outloud is sometimes…embarrassing, you know.” You wrinkle your nose at her. You add, “So, I totally get it.”
Grandma laughs, holding your arm and squeezing it as she says, “Young people.” She shakes her head. “You should meet him! I told him stories about you.”
“I’m assuming it’s all positive. Right, Grandma?” You give the old woman a soft nudge before shooting her a playful wink.
“Mhm, let me think about that.” Grandma teases.
One of the many qualities that made you grow attached to her is her witt. She has the right mix of cheekiness and tenderness. She always seems to have a witty comeback and it never fails to render you speechless. Overtime, you have come to appreciate her as more than just the old woman at the corner of the street selling sweet and savory treats. Her comfort reminds you of home, and whenever you feel homesick you find yourself chatting with her as you gnaw on food.
Before you leave her humble yatai, you write your phone number on a paper candy wrapper in case of an emergency. You told her that she can rely on you and that asking for help is not a sign of weakness. Grandma gladly accepts your kind words, quickly batting away a tear threatening to roll on her cheek. If there’s one prominent trait that you could name about the old woman is that she is reluctant to show emotions. She would rather present herself as strong and daunting. However, her tough exterior is nothing but a facade to her warm heart.
Walking to the studio building near your university, your heart begins to thump against your chest akin to the muffled sounds of drums from outside the studio rental building. As you push the glass door open, the scream coming from the girl behind the reception area was first to welcome you. Her voice startles you more than the echoes of the heavy electrical instruments.
“Shut the door!” She shouts in an authoritative manner. A distant ‘sorry’ coming from one of the rooms down the corridor followed by a soft click of a door knob locking is heard. The girl hisses. “Damn, these brats.”
You remain unmoving at your spot until she notices you, nodding her head in a casual greeting. It's just then that you notice that one of her legs is propped on a chair as her other foot dangles in the air. She chews on her gum loudly as she waits for you to speak.
“The Labyrinths?” Bokuto instructed you to say the band name to the friendly (though ‘friendly’ might not be the best word to describe her) woman behind the counter upon entering the studio rental building.
“You’re new.” She says, eyes traveling from head to toe as she blows and pops a gum. “Left side. Last room before you turn right.”
“Thank you.” You mutter, shuffling your way to the end of the corridor until she stops you for a moment to say, “Goodluck.”
You continue your way to the room at the end of the corridor. The muffled sounds of musical instruments, vocals, and people talking loudly resonate from each alternating door in the hallway. Then, you find yourself hesitating as you stare at the last mahogany door. Behind this door is a leap to change your mundane life. There’s nothing you can do to control this; nothing you can do about the anxiety building up in your stomach. The only way to overcome it is to enter the room just as you promised and show up. They’re expecting you, they’re waiting.
You swing the door open gently.
What are they like?
“WHO TOLD YOU TO TOUCH ROBERT?!” A seething voice booms in an instant. A raven haired boy with soft curls turns red as he angrily yells at Bokuto who’s currently sitting on the floor.
Uh, bad timing?
Should you leave?
“You’re so ungrateful, Sakusa! I did you a favor!” Bokuto bites back.
“A favor?! You call that a favor?! Why don’t you fucking mind your own business, huh?!” Sakusa challenges. A pair of gardening gloves covers his hands as vents his anger on a water bottle, gripping it tightly into a disfigured shape.
…Yep, maybe you should.
Just when you were about to retreat, Bokuto whips his head in preparation to dramatically whine back, but instead sees you standing by the door. Just as you're thinking it couldn’t get worse, everyone finally sees you. The room falls silent and in that very second, you wish to disappear, for the ground to swallow you whole.
You clear your throat, your neck is stiff with tension.
“Hi. I’m (y/n).” Your eyes briefly scan their faces and when none of them spoke, you continue, stuttering. “I-It’s nice to meet you all.” and still, no response.
Can you leave and redo the introduction when they’re not at each other’s throats?
Fortunately, just before you were about to run out Bokuto breaks the ice.
“(Y/n)! Sakusa is accusing me of killing Robert when all I did was water them!” Water? Bokuto points at the three tier shelves at the corner of the room. You take a small step forward to look at the potted plants he was referring to. Then, realization strikes you.
Robert is a plant.
It took you an immense amount of self-restraint from stopping yourself laughing at the unusual name for a plant. However, upon realizing what he did and the kind of plant Robert is, your eyelids peel wide.
“You watered a cactus?” You say, gesturing to the potted cacti of different shapes and colors. Some of them are flat and tall while others are round and small akin to a barrel. A number of them have purple and red flowers about to bloom. Now, you understand the wrath of the caretaker.
“Was I not helping?” Bokuto tilts his head to the side as he asks.
You shake your head from side to side. “I’m afraid not.”
As Bokuto’s pout becomes prominent, his shoulders hunched forward in shame and defeat, Astumu makes an effort to redirect the conversation.
“And that’s a welcome from The Labyrinths.” He casually states as he sits on one of the amplifiers on the floor, his legs stretched forward. He wears a plain shirt tucked on the waist of his jeans. His hair is unruly, probably from the number of times his fingers ran through it.
That’s it? He could have said something more to reduce the awkwardness of witnessing two members argue about a probably dying plant named Robert since he practically was the one who recruited you into the band. That's basic courtesy, right? You thought.
As if the boy next to Bokuto could read your thoughts aloud, he pushes himself off the wall and walks up to you. A smirk plays on his lips as he scrutinizes you from top to bottom, oddly reminding you of the girl from the front desk. He offers a handshake. “Suna Rintarou, rhythm guitar. It’s nice to finally meet you.”
“The pleasure’s mine.” You shake his hand and offer him a close-lipped smile.
Suna rolls his eyes and snorts. “Pfft, let’s quit being so formal. Come on, I’ll introduce you to the group.” Suna catches you off guard as he swings an arm over your shoulder then points at Bokuto sulking on the floor. “Bokuto Koutarou, drummer and a dramatic piece of shit. You already met him.” Suna moves to the person whom Bokuto referred to as Sakusa earlier. “Sakusa Kiyoomi, bassist and a don’t-touch-my-shit piece of shit, as you can already tell.” Sakusa frowns at Suna who seemed unmoved by it. Then, he points at Atsumu who’s at the other side of the room. “Atsumu Miya, lead guitarist and a…” Suna ponders on the right word to describe him, running his tongue over his teeth before exclaiming in confidence. “Ah!” He announces in conviction. “A piece of shit.” Suna wraps it up by flashing you the fakest smile you have ever seen in your entire existence. Although his effort seemed to lift the tension in the room.
“That’s quite the introduction.” You let out an airy laugh, glancing over to Suna who still has his arm over your shoulder. “So…this is everyone, I assume.” You throw a random gesture in the air which causes Suna to curve a brow.
“Yes, were you expecting someone?”
“No, not really, it’s just that yesterday Bokuto was with someone and I assumed he was also a part of the band.” Your voice fades into a whisper upon realizing how stupid you must sound. Just because he had an enamel pin from the Department of Letters and is friends with a drummer doesn't mean they both work on music, idiot. However, your revelation piqued Suna’s curiosity.
“Is that so?” He muses, a dangerously cheeky smile grows on his mouth as he directs his gaze to Bokuto whose expression is akin to a deer caught in headlights. He asks you, though his line of sight is still stuck on the drummer. “What’s his name?”
“I didn’t get his name.” You say cautiously, your vision jumping from Sakusa to Atsumu who had a similar expression on their faces. What the heck is going on? Suna keeps you hooked.
“Well, what does he look like?”
“He, uh…” You hesitate when you see Bokuto’s pleading eyes, practically begging you not to speak. But Suna is better at distracting you. For heaven's sake the man does not know about personal space. Using the tip of his finger, he turns your head so you're forced to lock eyes with him.
"I asked." He states in a low tone. "Ignore Bo." You swallow hard, biting on your molars as you stare back at a pair of glowing olive irises. You have never been this close to a boy (let alone someone you barely know) before, (other than Daichi whom you shared a large fraction of your life with.)
"Well, h-he's tall." You glance at Bokuto feeling like a total ass for snitching on him. Unable to handle pressure, you found the guts to ask. "Is this okay? Am I not putting Bokuto in a life or death situation?"
"Trust me, this benefits him." Suna unwraps his arm on your shoulder to cross it over his chest. You look over at Sakusa then Atsumu and see them both nodding in agreement. This makes everything even more confusing. What is going on?
"See? They agree." He tilts his chin. "So, tell us. What does he look like?"
With your lack of choice (actually, you do technically have a choice, but your intuition tells you that Suna won't drop the topic until you spill the details), you gave out a general description on Bokuto's friend's appearance. How his hair is styled, face, and attire. You also include the enamel pin on his canvas shoulder bag.
After you're done, Sakusa removes his gloves in a manner that makes a loud snapping sound. On the other hand, Suna guffaws, clutching onto his stomach.
"An important affair." Atsumu draws quotes in the air using his fingers. "I should have known."
Sakusa slow-claps. “You big fat liar. You were on a date with Akaashi!” Bokuto’s cheeks instantly turned warm.
"It's not even a date!" Bokuto argues back, but something with the way he presses his knees on his chest makes you wonder…aloud.
"You like him, but you have never confessed?" Your question earns a nosy and cheeky "ooh" from Suna.
"Sounds like someone's an expert in the field of dating." He shoots you a look that makes you regret speaking your mind.
"I'm not!" You protest though Suna completely ignores you by jesting,
“Why don’t you give our hopeless romantic drummer advice on how to secure a relationship?” Suna cackles to himself, enjoying you cornered and bashful. On the other hand, Sakusa asks in a serious tone.
“Are you seeing someone, (y/n)?” You weren’t informed that you signed yourself up for a late night show interrogation and not as a vocalist of a band. Ten minutes in since stepping into the room and the only information you know of them is that their bassist has cacti and their drummer is pining on a friend and now, your zero dating experience is about to get spilled.
Nonetheless, you shake your head to the sides and utter a “no”. Sakusa nods his head in understanding and for some reason you feel the weight of a pair of eyes looking at you in your peripheral vision. Instinctively, you turn to look at the source and see Atsumu peering at you through his lashes. He did not budge, not straying his eyes away, even when you caught him looking. In some kind of twisted role reversal, you were the one who felt caught red handed for catching him looking at you. You couldn’t hold his eyes any longer, so you switch to look at a point ahead from him, masking it by tucking a stray hair behind your ear.
“Shall we begin?” Sakusa cuts to the chase. He doesn't wait for the response of the group as he walks over to the bass guitar lying on the floor. As he untangles the wire next to the guitar, he looks over your shoulder. “Did you prepare a song? We should first play a song we regularly perform, then go with your choice of song next.”
Sakusa turns and misses you nodding to him in agreement. The others began to pick up their instruments, which left you standing, doing nothing but watch them prepare.
“What kind of songs do you usually sing?” Sakusa glances at you to let you know he’s talking to you.
“Any, but I'm hoping you’re not expecting me to whip out a Mariah Carey or Whitney Houston song, right?”
“AhHhH I~” Bokuto joins in by singing the first notes of the song in a falsetto, which makes you and Suna chuckle at his attempt to sing.
Sakusa notices you doing nothing so he juts his chin to your left. “The microphone and stand is over there.”
Following his orders, you take the microphone and its stand and place it at the center of the room and in front of them. Bokuto raps notes on the drum loudly and suddenly you feel your heart thump in nervousness in rhythm with the drum. Clipping the microphone on the stand, you breathe out the building tension in your stomach and shut your eyes to calm yourself. The next thing you know is Atsumu standing next to you.
“You okay?” He asks. His palm spread out before you, facing the sky. You gaze at his hand wondering what the hell he means by it. Is he offering his hand to comfort you? Hold… Hold hands?!
He notices you confusedly staring at his hand and clarifies his intentions before you have the chance to embarrass yourself. “The microphone wire. I’ll plug it in the amplifier.” He pointed at the wire of the microphone hanging and swirled on the floor.
“Right.”
What were you even thinking! If there’s only a way to make yourself disappear in an instant you would have done it without thinking twice.
To your luck, Atsumu seemed unbothered by your delay. Once he has the wire to the microphone he leaves your spot.
“So, what are we doing first?” Suna asks the group.
“I know!” Bokuto chirps and all heads turn to him. “Climber? (クライマー). Do you know that song, (y/n)?” You answer an immediate ‘yes’ and Bokuto exclaims. “Great!” Right then, He raises both drumsticks in the air. He hits it three times to set the beat and cue everyone to prepare.
One. Two. Three.
Sakusa slides a note across the frets and everyone begins playing their instrument. Bokuto doesn’t miss a beat as he hits the drums with all his strength while Suna’s fingers move naturally between strings and fret, head nodding to the upbeat rhythm. Then suddenly the three instruments: bass, drums, and rhythm guitar softens as Atsumu, who’s playing as the lead guitarist of the band, takes the spotlight. (0:07-0:13)
His confidence shows as he skillfully plays the electric guitar with minimal effort, as though he has done this a thousand times. He repeats the riff twice, fingers pressing on the strings quickly at a blink-and-you-miss-it pace. When the drums thunder once again, you’re reminded of your cue. One more set and you’re up to sing.
Despite your heart hammering against you chest akin to the vibrations of the loud music in the room bouncing against the walls, you were able to sing on beat on verse one. Although you had to admit, your voice came out shakey. However, you were quick to recover when the song hit the bridge. By the time it reaches the chorus, you find yourself enjoying the song. Your body is swaying with the beat, one hand on the microphone as you sing your heart out.
It’s your first time to perform a song with them, but it already feels natural. Technically speaking, perhaps they were able to adjust to your amateur skills, or something else like that. Before them, to you, singing was all about perfecting the notes, getting the right tempo, and being conscious of how you present yourself to people. But in this enclosed space you feel liberated. You aren’t thinking of the consequences of making a mistake.
You are actually enjoying yourself.
Before you know it the song ends and the only thing remaining with you is the evident grin on your face as you look at them. The rush of adrenaline is still in your veins making you feel pumped to sing the next song.
“You did well, (y/n).” Sakusa praises you therefore making you stretch the smile on your face. He continues. “What’s the song you prepared for us?”
“The genre is a bit different from the first song. It’s called Radio Song.”
“I know that!” Suna declares. “It is different from what we’re used to playing and that makes it better. We can explore other genres and styles.” As Sakusa and Bokuto nod their heads, Atsumu remains silent in his spot. He whips out his phone from the pocket of his jeans, running this thumb on the screen.
“Tsum, is there a problem?” Sakusa asks. “Are you not familiar with it?”
“I can think of another song-” Atsumu cuts you off.
“It’s fine. Give me time.” He plugs in a pair of earphones, places the phone on top of the amplifier, and begins picking strings on the electric guitar. He has his back turned on everyone as though he has entered a bubble of his own world.
“I’ll let you in on a secret.” Sakusa startles you by leaning towards you from behind. He whispers. “Atsumu is the best among the four of us, heck, his musical skills are up to par with professionals. He’s sick.”
Before you could come up with a reply, the topic of the conversation speaks, surprising you. “I’m ready.”
“I told you.” Sakusa mouths to you before walking back to his spot, adjusting the strap of the bass hung across his torso. It's not long till Bokuto starts the counts with his drumsticks, and Atsumu begins with the two consecutive notes.
“Well, now baby you left me. It was meant to be…” Unconsciously your eyes draw to Atsumu's direction who, for the second time today, is already looking at you. This time however he nods his head as if to tell you to 'keep going'. Hence, you turn your focus forward, enjoying the song like you did previously.
Soon the song finishes and Suna proposes a break (a smoke break, to be exact). Bokuto announces to everyone that he had been keeping his pee in this whole time ㅡ (a bit TMI for the taste of everyone present). As Bokuto exits the room, he sings the chorus of the song you picked. The rhythm of it stuck in his head.
Thus, you are left with Sakusa, who is currently draining water off his cactus - and Atsumu, who sits on the amplifier, guitar in his hand as he plays random tunes. Your first impression of him when Bokuto and he went to your room to talk about the band is different from who he is right now. Initially, reserved and mysterious was far from who you thought him to be but with the random glances and eye contact with him makes you curious as to what he is thinking about. There’s definitely more to know about.
Bokuto is quick to return from his restroom break and immediately approaches you when he sees you sitting by yourself.
"Feedback?" He smiles at you sweetly, sitting next to you on the floor. May his god bless his pure soul.
"Well, First off you guys are amazing and second, I enjoyed it." You mirror his smile, emphasizing the next words you said. "Very much."
"So…" He nudges you using his elbow in a playful manner. "Are you in or out?"
"Who's in or out?" Suna barges in, a trail of smoke following him and the smell of tobacco reeking from his presence.
"How about you Rin? How's the first two songs?" As Bokuto questions him, Sakusa turns to focus on the two while Astumu remains unbothered.
"It was fun." He pops a gum in his mouth.
"You said the same thing as (y/n)!"
"Jinx." You shoot Suna with a grin and a finger gun who in turn smiles back at you.
"No, seriously. It's a fresh breath of air. I like this better. Aren't you guys tired of the gloomy bitter songs we used to play a lot? Rei was so obsessed with it." The moment the name was dropped both Sakusa and Bokuto's eyes were rounded.
"Hey." Sakusa warns, eyes pointing knowingly at Atsumu who chose to ignore them. Bokuto changes the topic.
"So," He chuckles rather too fakely. This man does not know how to play dumb. "Are you going to join the band?"
With a steady heart and an eager soul, you answer the question more confidently than when they asked you to sing for them, the day Bokuto and Atsumu came over to your class. "I look forward to working with all of you."
Bokuto and Suna were first to shove their phones at you, asking for your number, followed by Sakusa leaving his device next to you.
"Ring your number after you're done with those two." Sakusa says, turning to finish draining water off his plants.
"Welcome to The Labyrinths! You are officially a Labyrinthian!" Bokuto's positive energy never fails to make you laugh.
"Please don't say that again." Suna cringes his nose at Bokuto.
As the two bicker, you catch sight of Atsumu in his spot, unmoved by reality. You figured that there's more to know about them as individuals (and as a group) and maybe now is not the time to get closer to Atsumu.
—
On your way home, you realized that it had gotten later than you expected. You had a great time experimenting on different songs with the band and figuring out which style suits best for your voice and their style of playing.
As you leisurely walk under the light of the cheap lamp post, shoes lightly tapping on the sidewalk, you gather your thoughts about the members of the band. Without a doubt, Bokuto is the easiest to get along with. He isn't afraid to start conversations in a sense that whenever he sees you by yourself he makes sure to accompany you by starting small talk. Suna is a close second. Although he isn't as talkative and loud as Bokuto, his reluctance to use honorifics and constant teasing makes you feel comfortable sharing conversations with him. You didn't have to think about holding back a playful counter on his teases because you know that he enjoys it as much as you do. Sakusa, unlike the first two, does not goof around, but he opens topics with you mostly related to music or his plants. You learned that he majors in Biology (which probably explains his green thumb) but other than that everything is all about The Labyrinths. As for Atsumu…well, maybe you need more time to get used to each other’s orbits.
About a couple of meters away from the street where you rent a dorm, you see grandma standing outside of her yatai. She instructs someone, pointing fingers at the boxes on the ground.
"Grandma!" You jog towards her. You ask the obvious. "Closing up?"
"Yes. You're out late. Your part-time job is on Wednesdays and Fridays, right?"
"Usually, yes but I had band practice this afternoon. I'm a vocalist of a band now." You proudly say. It feels surreal to even say that.
"I didn't know you had a talent for singing."
"One of these days, I'll sing for you grandma and you’ll be so amazed that you’ll brag about me to your customers just like how you do with your grandchild." The old woman laughs wholeheartedly. Hearing sounds of metals cluttering in her yatai, you offer. "Should I help?"
But grandma stops you. "No need. My grandson is here and we're almost done. My dear, are you alright? Come out here for a second let me introduce this lovely person I told you about."
"Wait." Her grandson answers but grandma's patience is running thin, as always.
"Well, hurry up!"
Contrary to grandma's narratives on his grandchild being hard headed and stubborn, she was able to summon him out at an instant. However, what you see before you is the last person you expected to meet and with the way your bottom lip falls, eyes unblinking it’s no denying how shocked you are to see him.
Tsukishima?
"Kei, this is (y/n). Lovely, aren't they?" Grandma introduces you to him but you are too stunned in place to offer a handshake or utter a hello.
Grandma chuckles, "Seems like you two know each other." She adds, horrifying you even more. "It's late. Kei, why don't you be a good boy and walk them back to their apartment and I'll finish the rest here."
The air is knocked out from your lungs and you are once again trapped at the crossroads of a decision. Should you accept grandma's offer and let Tsukishima Kei, the boy from the cafeteria and your groupmate, walk you to your place or should you make up a white lie to decline the offer? Whatever you choose, you have to decide quickly, before the awkward silence stretches any further.
ㅡi have good news. it's indicated below quick!!
LOVE METER:
Daichi Sawamura: 🤍🤍🤍🤍🤍
Atsumu Miya: 🤍🤍🤍🤍🤍
Kuroo Tetsurou: ❤🤍🤍🤍🤍
Tsukishima Kei: 🤍🤍🤍🤍🤍
?: 🤍🤍🤍🤍🤍
based on the results on the previous poll, kuroo gains a red heart!! man, wasn't easy to get a heart from him? well, in this fic you have to be aware of their personalities. some characters are harder to get red hearts than the others. similarily, in real life, some people fall in love quickly than others. so, be careful! if your goal is to closer to kuroo then congrats to you my friend but if not then... *evil laughs* *clears throat* it's just a one heart. don't worry i'll include more scenes to give (y/n) opportunities to interact with the other leads :)
anyway, HERE IS THE POLL!!

My Bad

The day before Valentine's day, you had run out of ketchup and decided to go to the store.
The fridge door clicked, signaling that it was closed and you sighed.
You didn't want to leave the house, but you needed ketchup.
You grabbed your things and headed out.
You were still new to this strange world, but thankfully the city you had taken residence in needed no cars to get from place to place.
You walked outside, the bright sun beamed down on you. It was a warm, possibly summer afternoon. You weren't sure what season it was.
The one friend you had made in the town was Tifa. She was very friendly and helpful. She had even hired you at her bar so you could make some money while you stayed.
The house you lived in was a rental and you had a day off from work.
Tifa had given you a map and told you some of the places in town. Some of them drew your interest, others, not so much.
You knew the store very well. It was the first place you had visited when you came.
Vincent lay awake in his coffin. Unable to sleep, he sat up. He ran his fingers through his long hair and put on all-black clothes, his usual attire.
He normally wouldn't lie around all day, but something was off and he wasn't sure what.
He headed up the stairs, unlocked the door to his room, and closed and locked it behind him.
He liked keeping his life very private and didn't want anyone to see any of what may lie in his private chambers.
He looked around and decided he would head to the store. He wasn't sure why, but he decided he would go.
He left the confinement of his home and headed to the store.
You took your time looking around at everything, seeing and wondering if you needed anything else other than ketchup.
Not seeing anything else, you headed to the aisle the ketchup was in. You reached for the ketchup when a hand touched yours.
You could feel a brooding presence and you drew your hand back to look.
A large man, dressed in all-black, his long dark hair hung over his face.
You waited a moment before saying anything and the man spoke.
"My bad."
He took the ketchup from the shelf and handed it to you. You took it and thanked him.
He didn't reply.
"What's your name?"
"Vincent."
"It's nice to meet you. I'm Y/N."
He wasn't one for many words, and he was as mysterious as he looked.
You felt somewhere inside of you. You had met this man before.
He turned slowly, his eyes met yours, and he left.
You breathed in and looked down at the bottle before looking up.
You made your way to the register, paid, and left.
Vincent stood outside the store, almost as if he were waiting for someone.
You looked at him and for some reason felt the need to ask, "Would you like to go on a date with me?"
"Where to and when?"
"Tomorrow at two. Near the mansion, we can go visit the pond."
He walked away without another word.
You weren't sure why you had mentioned that place, but for some reason, you were at a loss for words.
You had hoped he would be there tomorrow, but you wouldn't be surprised if he didn't show up.
He was a strange man with very little to say.
You headed home and tomorrow you would head to the place you had agreed to.
You were relieved when he had shown up with a box of chocolates and flowers he had bought.
