Eve Aurelian
Another girl with a homebrewed deity
Eve Aurelian Class: Warlock-Artificer Personal deity: Soteth the sundered Alignment: True neutral/she leans more lawful but can swing between good and evil
Soteth the sundered is the "offspring" of the deity her father is a cleric for whom at this time is simply called the Voice of Aegis (yes I know that is a buckler with the head of a gorgon on it I didn't really give him much of a name since its a neutral deity)
Soteth is split into two beings one Good and other Evil so literally an angel and a devil motif. When they agree on something they fuse into a faceless being (think of the Spot from Spiderverse or King Minos from Ultrakill) with a hands motif but also slightly eldritch
When Eve was 16 is when she and her twin (Adam) were able to make pacts with some of the offspring. Picking Eve was one of the few things they agreed upon.
Her pact is the pact of the lover(s)
She was told by them that she would be the mother of deities of course only if they could agree and Eve figured that if several people before her couldn't get the halves to agree then she would just benefit from having the two give her powers to try and just pick one of them and ignore the other (Hence why Eve's alignment can swing it depends on which half she is channeling more)
But when they do agree they are incredibly powerful to reality warping degree because they are a fledgling deity and Logar may or may not had tried to recreate the perfect meld of human and divine due to his eldest child being Argel Tal
The two halves do unselfishly love her but each half is selfish in the amount of time and devotion they want to give her so Eve is unfortunately having to deal with a deity who is split in two, willingly, so they're trying to get into her pants twice as much
Eve is a warlock as per tradition in her family to help her father's deity gain more of a foothold but she became an Artificer to slightly distance herself from how Logar can get with religion (that hardly changed)
She is less like how Martel is who is more of an artisan and she goes full on inventor/alchemist trying to put the power of the gods into the hands of mortals so it means she can get in trouble but that's what Soteth is there for to bail her out of trouble.
She duel wields repeater hand crossbows that she made (if guns were a thing in this setting she would be duel wielding flintlocks/revolvers)
Her skin is that lovely tanned color everyone gives Logar with short black-brown hair. And she has bright golden eyes.
When she is using Soteth's powers, runic tattoos appear all over her body and she will either have a halo or horns if she is heavily channeling one of the halves.
But when she channels both halves the motif becomes hands holding her body, covering her face, her chest, her waist, holding her neck in show of possession, just a lot of hands holding her in a lovers embrace and of course large lovely wings. (I see true neutral deities being just the casual eldritch vs like celestial Biblically accurate angels eldritch and the corrupted version of Biblically accurate angels eldritch for the devils)
Her attire is mostly practical with wearing thick trousers tucked into her boots with a buttoned up shirt tucked into her pants with a jacket over top. She traded out the far more simple attire of her father's love of tunics for something far more well Zazzlian
She's not super close with her twin as he went down a more clerical path while her elder brother Argel Tal is a paladin of sorts
She didn't inherit a lot of the Primarch aura
She's heard more about the plane her father comes from via Argel Tal's ramblings to which she doesn't put much stock into but his wife also says some out there things that Logar just seems to accept.

07.23.2023 - Chapter 4 (Redux)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Another chapter edited! A lot of convoluted worldbuilding stuff was removed, and some narration was simplified. This whole bit is new; originally the ham was something that Cay and Ev found, but now that they’re both deleted from the story, it’s going to Bee and Idan. I think it’s more fun and also makes more sense.
I don’t know what “Aurelian gold” is supposed to be. I just needed a cool thing that sounded expensive.

CHRISTMAS IS NOT PAGAN
Tumblr media
So, please, stop saying that it is. There is no good reason to call Christmas "pagan" or to say Christmas "came from a pagan background."
Every year, both non-Christians AND Christians post all over social media that "Christmas is pagan." The majority of these people have no reason whatsoever for their claim, except they saw it on social media and blindly believe it's true. Let's go over the facts about supposed "pagan" traditions and Christmas:
SOL INVICTUS Sol Invictus was not placed on 12/25 until 354 AD when the Philocalian Calendar records this but doesn't specify any festival with regards to sun worship. Prior to this, the Julio-Claudian fasti inscriptions say Sun festivals were on August 8th, 9th, 28th, and December 11th, and maybe October 19th. The Philocalian Calendar says Emperor Aurelian honored the sun with chariot races every 4 years Oct 19-22 (Steven Hijmans, "Sol Invictus, the Winter Solstice, and the Origins of Christmas", Mouseion, Number 47/3 (2003), 277-298).
SATURNALIA Saturnalia was never on 12/25. Macrobius says Saturnalia began 14 days before January, which comes out to December 17th (Saturnalia 1.10.1-23), using Roman Calendrical dates. He says it lasted for 3 days, but according to the Fasti inscriptions, it lasted to the 24th during the days of the Republic.
YULE Yule was placed on 12/25 by King Haakon the Good in the 10th century AD to coincide with Christmas. This goes back to the early historian Snorri Sturluson, and his book "Heimskringla: History of the Kings of Norway." Snorri says before this, “Yule was celebrated on a midwinter night, and for the duration of three nights" (p. 106). He gives no specific dates, but St. Bede in “The reckoning of Time,” (Section 329) said Northmen calculated their seasons according to the cycles of the moon, so the date of Yule probably changed every year. Pliny the elder also says the Gallic tribes calculated their months according to the moon (nat. his. 16.95.250). Last, according to the Chronicler, Theitmar, the Danes sacrificed to pagan gods in January after the 6th (The Chronicon of Thietmar of Merseburg, Book 1.17).
THE WINTER SOLSTICE The Winter Solstice had no festive significance to ancient Romans. There were no celebrations planned for the date and they disagreed on when it was. The Julian Calendar does say 12/25, but Pliny the Elder says 12/26 (nat. his. 18.59.221), and Columella says 12/23 (De Re Rustica 9.14.12).
DECEMBER 25TH The date of 12/25 was selected by Christians because (according to early authors like Dionysus Exiguus & Hippolytus) they believed Jesus was conceived on the same day he died and they thought he died on March 25th, so just count forward nine months.
CHRISTMAS TREES Christmas trees only go back to the 16th century in eastern Europe. The first mention of Christmas trees is in an Alsace ordinance in 1561. Almost no early pagans thought pine trees were sacred, let alone associated with 12/25. Germanic tribes believed the oak was sacred (Pliny, nat. his. 16.95). Maximus of Tyre said, "The Celts indeed worship Zeus, but they honor Him in the form of a lofty oak" (Dissertation VIII, section VIII). The most likely explanation is they morphed over from paradise trees. Adam and Eve's festival days is 12/24 and used to be honored with an Adam and Eve play. In Europe, in the dead of winter, not a lot of trees are available, so they would get a pine tree and decorate it with fruits and cakes. After the play, they could eat the treats on the tree and the practice probably just morphed into Christmas. We have no record of Christmas trees prior to this time. See "Christmas: A Candid History" by Bruce David Forbes, pp. 48-59;  Encyclopedia of Christmas by Tanya Gulevich, pp. 165-171.
SANTA CLAUS Santa Claus can only be traced back to Dutch immigrants in New York in the early 1800s. He came from the Dutch Sinterklaas, also known as St. Nicolas. His feast day was on 12/6 and was moved to 12/25 around this time to help make Christmas a family holiday. Newspapers promoted it and encouraged to give gifts on Christmas instead of New Years' like it traditionally was before this. Sinterklaas was rebranded from a catholic priest to look like a traditional dutchman from that time period, which included a big red suit (A dictionary of English Folklore, section: Santa). After this Santa was exported around the world and different countries added new spins. Stockings were also promoted around this time period and trace back to Clement C. Moor's “A Visit from St. Nicholas.” In 1927, in Finland, a radio broadcaster, Markus Rautio, morphed the old pagan deity, Joulupukki, into a Santa figure. Santa changed the Joulupukki figure, not the other way around.
FATHER CHRISTMAS Father Christmas, surprisingly, pre-dates Santa Claus. But he is not a pagan deity. Instead, he was a medieval personification of Christmas. Richard Smart of Plymtree is the first to write about him, referring to him as Sir Christmas, and his task is to announce the birth of Christ (Oxford Book of Carols, no. 21, 41-3).
MISTLETOE Mistletoes do not go back to paganism. The first we hear of using mistletoe as Christmas decorations are in Robert Herrick, "Hesperides poetry collection," (892, 980), and then William Coles mentions it is a decoration in “The Art of Simpling” (1600s). The tradition of kissing under it did not begin until the end of the 18th century in Britain. See "A dictionary of English Folklore," section: Mistletoe.
YULE LOGS Yule Logs do not go back to paganism, despite the name. Yule is also an English word to mean "mid-winter period." The first mention of yule logs is in Robert Herrick, "Hesperides poetry collection (number 784)" and he calls it a Christmas log. It wasn't called a yule log until Aubrey's “In the west-riding of Yorkshire on Christmas eve” (1686, p. 134).
NATIVITY SCENES St. Francis is credited for the first nativity scene in 1223 AD, Greccio. His followers then promoted the use of them during Christmas (Life of Saint Francis of Assisi  - Saint Bonaventure. Chapter 10.7).
There is no evidence that Christmas comes from paganism or that Christmas is pagan at all. So, Christian Thinkers, go forth and celebrate Christmas in the worship of Christ for the glory of God! Keep Thinking!

Celebrating The Winter Solstice
Tumblr media
By shirleytwofeathers
Winter Solstice has been celebrated in cultures the world over for thousands of years. This start of the solar year is a celebration of Light and the rebirth of the Sun. In old Europe, it was known as Yule, from the Norse, Jul, meaning wheel.
Today, many people in Western-based cultures refer to this holiday as “Christmas.” Yet a look into its origins of Christmas reveals its Pagan roots.
Emperor Aurelian established December 25 as the birthday of the “Invincible Sun” in the third century as part of the Roman Winter Solstice celebrations. Shortly thereafter, in 273, the Christian church selected this day to represent the birthday of Jesus, and by 336, this Roman solar feast day was Christianized. January 6, celebrated as Epiphany in Christendom and linked with the visit of the Magi, was originally an Egyptian date for the Winter Solstice.
Most of the customs, lore, symbols, and rituals associated with “Christmas” actually are linked to Winter Solstice celebrations of ancient Pagan cultures. While Christian mythology is interwoven with contemporary observances of this holiday time, its Pagan nature is still strong and apparent.
Pagans today can readily re-Paganize Christmastime and the secular New Year by giving a Pagan spiritual focus to existing holiday customs and by creating new traditions that draw on ancient ways. Here are some ways to do this: Celebrate Yule with a series of rituals, feasts, and other activities.
In most ancient cultures, the celebration lasted more than a day. The ancient Roman Saturnalia festival sometimes went on for a week. Have Winter Solstice Eve and Day be the central focus for your household, and conceptualize other holiday festivities, including New Year’s office parties and Christmas visits with Christian relatives, as part of your Solstice celebration. By adopting this perspective, Pagan parents can help their children develop an understanding of the multicultural and interfaith aspects of this holiday time and view “Christmas” as just another form of Solstice.
Have gift exchanges and feasts over the course of several days and nights as was done of old. Party hearty on New Year’s Eve not just to welcome in the new calendar year, but also to welcome the new solar year.
Adorn the home with sacred herbs and colors. Decorate your home in Druidic holiday colors red, green, and white. Place holly, ivy, evergreen boughs, and pine cones around your home, especially in areas where socializing takes place.
Hang a sprig of mistletoe above a major threshold and leave it there until next Yule as a charm for good luck throughout the year. Have family/household members join together to make or purchase an evergreen wreath. Include holiday herbs in it and then place it on your front door to symbolize the continuity of life and the wheel of the year. If you choose to have a living or a harvested evergreen tree as part of your holiday decorations, call it a Solstice tree and decorate it with Pagan symbols.
Convey love to family, friends, and associates. At the heart of Saturnalia was the custom of family and friends feasting together and exchanging presents. Continue this custom by visiting, entertaining, giving gifts, and sending greetings by mail and/or phone. Consider those who are and/or have been important in your life and share appreciation.
Tumblr media
Reclaim Santa Claus as a Pagan Godform. Today’s Santa is a folk figure with multicultural roots. He embodies characteristics of:
Saturn (Roman agricultural god)
Cronos (Greek god, also known as Father Time)
Holly King (Celtic god of the dying year)
Father Ice/Grandfather Frost (Russian winter god)
Thor (Norse sky god who rides the sky in a chariot drawn by goats)
Odin/Wotan (Scandinavian/Teutonic All-Father who rides the sky on an eight-legged horse)
Frey (Norse fertility god)
Tomte (a Norse Land Spirit known for giving gifts to children at this time of year)
Santa’s reindeer can be viewed as forms of Herne, the Celtic Horned God. Decorate your home with Santa images that reflect His Pagan heritage.
Tumblr media
Honour the Goddess as Great Mother. Place Pagan Mother Goddess images around your home. You may also want to include one with a Sun child, such as Isis with Horus. Pagan Goddess forms traditionally linked with this time of year include:
Tonantzin (Native Mexican corn mother)
Holda (Teutonic earth goddess of good fortune)
Bona Dea (Roman women’s goddess of abundance and prophecy)
Ops (Roman goddess of plenty)
Au Set/Isis (Egyptian/multicultural All Goddess whose worship continued in Christian times under the name Mary)
Lucina/St. Lucy (Roman/Swedish goddess/saint of light)
Befana (Italian Witch who gives gifts to children at this season)
Honor the new solar year with light. Do a Solstice Eve ritual in which you meditate in darkness and then welcome the birth of the sun by lighting candles and singing chants and Pagan carols.
If you have a indoor fireplace or an outdoor fire circle, burn an oak log as a Yule log and save a bit to start next year’s fire. Decorate the inside and/or outside of your home with electric colored lights. Because of the popularity of five pointed stars as holiday symbols, this is a good time to display a pentagram of blue or white lights.
Contribute to the manifestation of more wellness on Planet Earth. Donate food and clothing to poor in your area. Volunteer time at a social service agency. Put up bird feeders and keep them filled throughout the winter to supplement the diets of wild birds. Donate funds and items to non-profit groups, such as Pagan/Wiccan churches and environmental organizations. Meditate for world peace. Work magic for a healthier planet. Make a pledge to do some form of good works in the new solar year.

Masquerade, Part One
It was at the estate of Lord Erimonte that the Winterborn Ball was to be held, and with it Aurelian’s first true taste of Nightborne nobility and decadence. He had sampled such of course, but this was to be his real experience with it all. All the pleasures afforded to the richest, most powerful men and women of the city would be within his grasp to sample. That is, provided he lived through the night.
He was in essence a sheep in wolf’s clothing; here amidst the high society of the Nightborne, no one was his friend. He would be surrounded by enemies who would kill him on the spot if they saw through his disguise.  Illuria had warned him that they would be on the lookout for any imposters, be they the rebellious Nightfallen or outlanders. Thus not only would this be his real taste of Nightborne comforts, but also his first real test as Lord Coren Woodborne.
Thus as evening drew close and the stars began to appear, Aurelian found himself at the front gates of Lord Erimonte’s home, adorned in an outlandishly decadent outfit, wearing a golden mask carved in the likeness of an avian creature, and wondering if he had made a terrible mistake. Beyond the gilded gates there was a rather spacious garden and central fountain, the home itself and a large number of people. The opulence of Lord Erimonte’s estate was enough to even make Aurelian somewhat jealous, though he would never voice such an idea.
He of course did not know a single person he saw, for not only were they Nightborne but they too wore masks of unique make, each undoubtedly a small reflection of the individual behind them. Some he saw were of a terrifying visage, whilst others wore more serene, peaceful things. He saw ivory, gold and silver aplenty along with more exotic of gemstones in a flagrant display of wealth. His eyes closed behind his mask as he took a deep breath; one wrong move and he was dead.
“Your invitation?” Aurelian’s eyes opened as one of the Nightborne pulled away from the gate to face him, having spotted him. He did not wear a costume as others did, instead adorned in what appeared to be ceremonial armor. Unlike the others as well, he was armed with a longsword that for the moment at least was slung at his side.
“Ah yes, of course. Lord Coren Woodborne, guest of the Lady Illuria Indaris.” He was lucky most of the Nightborne language was similar to that of the Sin'dorei, as he could at least passably speak with them. Reaching into a pouch at his side, he withdrew a small piece of parchment, offering it to the guard. The man snatched it, reading it over with a furrow of his brow. Satisfied, he handed the invitation back before opening the door.
“Welcome, my lord.” Aurelian gave a nod of his head, walking into the estate. Now there was no turning back for him; from this point on, he was in the den of what he presumed was the enemy. Few heads turned to face him, for he was unknown even in a crowd of such people. One figure however broke away from one of the groups, her lithe form gracefully moving past several others.
“Ah Lord Woodborne, you have finally arrived.” Illuria’s voice was unmistakable, even behind the mask she wore. It was of strange make, with what appeared to be vines carved in a beautifully weeping face. She offered out a hand, which Aurelian took with a bow.
“Lady Indaris. Ah, as if I would ever miss such an event.” Illuria gave a chuckle that almost seemed forced, nodding.
“Of course my dear. Come, join me. The ball is to start soon.” She did not give time for Aurelian to protest, turning and moving back to where she was previous. Aurelian followed behind, noticing now several pairs of eyes turning to watch the two. Illuria returned to the group she had been part of previously, made up of three other individuals. “Apologies, Lord Valestorm; I had to fetch lord Woodborne.”  One of them turned to eye Aurelian up and down, face hidden behind an expressionless mask.
“So you are Lord Coren Woodborne. Lady Indaris has told us quite a bit about you. I am Lord Asalin Valestorm.” The man gave a bow, before extending his arm to his left at the other’s in the group. “This is my wife Esa.” The aformentioned woman gave a bow of her own.
“And I,” spoke the third figure, “am Lord Arcadion Vrayne, telemancer and engineer of the Magistrix’s court.” That name Aurelian had heard before. He was someone who with his brother Illuria had recommended watching out for; though for what reason he was uncertain. He gave a bow to the three of them, low enough to be respectful.
“It is my pleasure to make your acquaintances. Please, do not allow my arrival to interrupt your discussion.”
“Not at all. We were just discussing with Lord Vrayne here the intricacies of his new defense network and it’s vulnerabilities.”
“Please,” Arcadion protested. “There are no vulnerabilities to it. Your scenario of ‘militant withered’ is hardly sound.”
“Forgive me, but I am not familiar with the new defense network.” Aurelian stated. For a moment Arcadion looked offended, before brushing it off.
“It’s arcano-based telemetric crystals. Essentially, it targets those with low reserves of arcane or magical energy, such as that of the withered and exiled.  Nightborne would be immune thanks to our inherent arcane power and the Nightwell. Lord Valestorm here has created a rather outlandish idea as a supposed weakness to my designs.”
“That’s because it is. Rumors already abound that the exiled have been training Withered to act more cohesively. They can simply overrun the defenses you’ve proposed to the Magistrix with sheer numbers.”
“Please; the Withered are feral creatures at best. It would be easier to train an army of beasts than it would to control those mana hungry creatures. Trained withered are just as you explained; rumors.”
“Let us hear lord Woodborne’s thoughts on the matter then, and get his opinion?” The various nobles turned to face Aurelian, who for the life of him had no clue what an arcano-based telemetric crystal was until ten seconds ago and even still only understood such basics that if he said anything he’d undoubtedly come across as a fool…and a fool he could not afford to be tonight.
“I presume it-” Aurelian’s words were interrupted luckily by the sound of a horn blowing, soft and melodic. The group turned towards the sound, spotting the horn blower on the stairs to the entrance of the manor. Beside the figure stood a rather impressive figure. He was physically as impressive as any other Nightborne, made distinguishable by the golden mask and outfit he wore. Crisp, shining scales wrapped around his body in a spiral towards his face. Upon his features the mask had been carved into the likeness of a dragon, giving an air of both the intimidating and alluring. Behind him, a servant held up a crimson cloak, keeping it away from any dirt that might tarnish it.
“My lords and ladies,” the figure spoke aloud. “It is so wonderful to see you all here on this most auspicious eve. All of you here represent the cream of Nightborne society; those of the elite and powerful. As your host, you have all done me great honor in attending tonight. Whilst the Magistrix herself is unable to attend, she has wished us all a most celebratory evening. So come my friends; the doors to the Winterborn Ball are open!” Lord Erimonte, for it could only be him, raised his arms upwards. He was met with the applause of dozens, Aurelian quickly joining in.
“My my, Lord Erimonte is certainly dressed outlandishly.” Lady Valestorm quipped in.
“He always likes to be the center of all attention. Come, we should make haste to go in. We shall continue the discussion of Lord Vrayne’s work another time. Lord Vrayne, Lord Woodborne, Lady Indaris.” Asalin gave a bow alongside that of his wife, before moving with others who had already begun to make their way to the entrance.
“My lady, my lord.” Aurelian watched the inventor leave, ear perking as Illuria stepped beside him.
“You past your first test of the evening my dear. Well done.” Illuria offered out her arm for Aurelian, which he wrapped his own around, hand atop her own.
“As I said; I was born to such gatherings.”
“Do not grow overconfident so fast. That was but the first of many I presume you shall face tonight. Being my guest and conversing with those such as Lord Vrayne has earned you some looks, and I imagine at least some of those gathered here have taken an interest in an unfamiliar lord.”
“Not to worry, Lady Indaris. I’m a natural. By the end of the eve the nobility of Suramar shall adore my presence.” He turned, giving a wink behind his mask as the two walked to the entrance, trailing behind the vast majority. He could make out beyond the various people entering a vast hall, gilded and glittering as they ascended the vast stairway. In truth the estate seemed more a palace of sorts, large in both size and extravagance.
“We shall see how true that is, Lord Woodborne. Remember; everyone here is your enemy.” By now the two had reached the top of the stairs, allowing Aurelian a free look into the hall of the estate. He noticed that while those of the Nightborne often preferred silvers and purple, the estate of lord Erimonte was both golden and crimson. It reminded him of Silvermoon in some regards, much to his displeasure.
“I thought the Nightborne held silver, not gold.” Aurelian muttered to Illuria as the two approached a pair of guards, who flanked a thin man scrawling upon a parchment as each guest drew close.
“The colors of Lord Erimonte are gold and crimson, hailing from when the Kal'dorei Empire reigned. Gold is not a common amidst Suramar, for much of the gold came when the Empire was whole. Our host, however, refused to give up such and so hoards much of it, and as you can see shows it off.” Illuria turned up to the scribe, expression hidden behind the mask. “The Lady Illuria Indaris, sorceress of the Court of the Magistrix. Accompanying her is the Lord Coren Woodborne.”
“Very well, my lady. Carry on.” The two pressed past the man into the hall proper, where Aurelian saw at least a dozen guards here alone, and all wearing rather plain masks. The various nobles from before had been pressed into the hall, slowly moving to a grand an opulent doorway framed in the image of a roaring dragon. Aurelian could hear the nobility murmuring amongst themselves, picking out only a few words from the conversations.
The two drew closer and closer, and now Aurelian could hear not only more voices but also that of harps, violins and other music. It was sounds familiar to him, for the social gatherings of the aristocracy were second nature to him. He had not lied when he had told Illuria that he was born to such gatherings. Now he could make out more of the room, with all of its gilded statues and red tapestries mixed with the exotic attire and masks of its attendees. The smell that reached him was of fine perfumes mixed with the near sweet scent of the arcane, along with the various roasted, glazed and other cooked items.
“The Lady Cascasa, Blade of the Nightwell and mistress of the Lord of Vergeux.” Closer and closer the two came, as the nobility descended into the ballroom. There was only one couple before them now, and soon they too had descended down what was a marble stairway.
“Are you ready, Lord Woodborne?” Illuria did not turn to face him, staring ahead just as he did.
“Of course.” With a confident swagger, the two stepped forward.
“The Lady Illuria Indaris, sorceress of the Court of the Magistrix. Accompanying her is the Lord Coren Woodborne, patriarch of house Woodborne.” Now the ballroom was open for him to see, and more importantly for them to see him. Heads turned as the two were announced, including that of their host who stood opposite upon a balcony. At his side, Aurelian recognized that of Illuria’s brother Corvayon and a woman he did not recognize.
To Aurelian’s chagrin, the ballroom was more opulent than that of Castle Indaris. Indeed it would put his own ballroom to shame with its elegance, something Aurelian would never admit lightly. Each pillar of the balcony had been engraved in the spiral of a dragon, painstakingly carved into the perfect likeness of a real one, while the floor seemed to almost shine like glittering starlight. He had only a second to admire the work before he was forced to descend the stairs, keeping his haughty appearance going with each step.
“Impressive, is it not?”
“I must confess Illuria this is far grander than Quel'thalas.”
“Is it? A pity.” Aurelian turned briefly to her statement, eyebrow raised. What did she mean by that? He did not question her however as they moved across the ballroom in front of everyone, realizing they were moving to the balcony holding lord Erimonte. “We go to greet our host. The Indaris family has always been friends to Erimonte, and it would be rude not to personally thank him for the invitation.”
“Who is that with him and your brother?” Aurelian asked, eyes fixed on the woman beside the two. Whilst Erimonte was dressed to intimidate as was Corvayon, who wore a twin horned mask, she wore only a half mask that covered the top of her face. Her silver hair fell to her shoulders just above a golden torque that circled around her throat. Her attire was unsurprisingly revealing as was seemingly custom of the Nightborne culture, her well-toned thighs and defined musculature free to see.
“That is Captain Cassanora Stargrove. She is both guest here, and in charge of the guards.” Aurelian did not take his eyes off of her, though continued to speak to Illuria.
“I’ve noticed quite a few guards. Is Erimonte expecting trouble?”
“A gathering of the upper echelons of Nightborne society, all whom support the Grand Magistrix? It would be a field day for the rebellion to be here. Besides, it is not merely Nightborne who are here, I am certain.”
“Demons too?” She nodded at that, turning and bowing her head slightly as someone called her name.
“Indeed. Disguised of course, for their presence is rather…discomforting for even the most loyal amongst the Nightborne. They are both guards, and the eyes of the legion here.”
“A reminder of the fel shadow that hangs over this city…” Aurelian muttered, turning his attention now to their host. Erimonte was staring at the two, and it took a moment for Aurelian to realize that Erimonte was looking directly at him as they approached.
“My Lord Erimonte.” Illuria bowed low, with Aurelian following suit. He even bowed a touch lower, showing proper respect to their host.
“Ah, Lady Indaris. It is so good to see you here again; your presence is like a light in the darkness. And you are the lord Woodborne yes? Welcome to my home on this most glorious evening.” There was a slight accent to the man’s word that made each letter arrogantly pronounced.
“The pleasure is all mine, my lord.”
“How do you like it? This is your first time here, is it not?”
“It is indeed. To say I am speechless would discredit the beauty of this place.” He briefly looked to Cassanora, before returning his attention to Erimonte.
“Ah your words are good to hear; it is so rare we have newcomers amidst these halls. It is always the same lords and ladies, so fresh blood is most welcome. I must confess however I had not heard of the house Woodborne until some time ago.”
“We have only recently come into power. Our loyalty to the Magistrix during this time earned no small appreciation.” A lie, but one he hoped Illuria would work off of.
“Yes, it was Lord Woodborne who alerted the Magistrix’s guards to that rebel group causing trouble in the Crescent Glaive some months back.” Aurelian blinked; he had not done such a thing. Realization dawned upon him then, thankful his mask hid the fact his eyes went wide for a moment. When he had first travelled here, Illuria had showed him and Gardesia the legion’s presence on the city and what happened to those that were captured first hand. There had been a group of civilians, chained up and being escorted by demons onto a ship. He had little doubt that was the incident in question, which he had assumed was orchestrated by Illuria.
“Ah yes; I remember that. Was not Lord Valadance found guilty of aiding the rebels as well due to that?”
“Yes, thanks to Lord Woodborne here.” All three upon the balcony turned and looked at Aurelian then.
“I see. It is good to find such loyalty to the Magistrix; your recent rise to power is well warranted it would seem.”
“Not only that, but Lord Woodborne here is an accomplished duelist. I would wager he could give you a run for your money, Lord Erimonte.”
“Really now?” Cassanora finally spoke up, painted lips held in a smirk. “That would be a challenge I would love to witness.
"As would I,” Corvayon stated. “The only person I’ve seen defeat Erimonte is, well, myself.” Corvayon’s stare unnerved Aurelian, though he was not sure as to why it did. Erimonte seemed to visibly bristle at their comments, however.
“It would be a challenge I would accept one day…but for now we have a ball to celebrate. Go my friends; enjoy this night!” Erimonte seemingly waved the two off, turning now to speak with Corvayon. Whilst the two conversed, Aurelian noticed Cassanora still watched Aurelian curiously.
“Ah that was entertaining.” Illuria stated, smiling behind her mask.
“How so?”
“Lord Erimonte is rarely challenged, and so to have someone state he could be beaten? Ah that is one thing so predictable amongst all of us; arrogance. But, we did what we needed to do there.”
“And that is…?”
“Get you noticed by those in attendance here. I’ve created this persona for you, now you must use it.”
“Yes, so I’ve seen. I presume then those civilians captured when I was here with Gardesia were your work?”
“Mine?” Illuria placed a hand to her chest, as if indignantly. “Not at all; that was your work, my lord Woodborne.” Aurelian gave her a hard look, before nodding. “I figured with how you responded to that demonstration all those months ago that you would understand why I name you as responsible.”
“Clever, my lady.”
“And now, my dear, I must leave you. I’ve done the initial leg work, the rest is up to you. Socialize, mingle, and most importantly do not get caught. Have fun.” Illuria let go of Aurelian then, leaving him alone as she moved towards one of the many groups. Aurelian watched her go, turning to…
He paused as he stared right into the face of a mask shaped into the visage of a howling demon, twin fangs curled beneath an angered brow. Aurelian nearly jumped back in surprise, instead straightening himself however. Rather than the silvers and golds of the nobility, the mask was cut in what appeared to be some form of ebon stone, red lines carved harshly into it.
“Can I help you?”
“Ah, of course you do not recognize me. We’ve met before, at the Indaris manor several months ago.” Aurelian furrowed his brow at that. Who had he met? Recognition dawned on him then.
“Lord Kilrus Vaol, is it not?” Even behind the mask Aurelian nearly shirked under Vaol’s eyes. They were familiar and old, older than even Illuria was, of that he was certain. They spoke of power and cunning beyond most mortals, and it took everything for Aurelian not to run from the iron gaze.
“Indeed it is. I trust you have been well?”
“As well as can be expected in such times as these, what with rebels at the proverbial gates so to speak.”
“Agreed; there are many wolves closing in with their jaws open, ready to pounce. You’ll find that no clearer then in this room. All the nobles plotting and planning each other’s demise for the crumbs of their betters.”
“Yet you are here among them. Speaking of, were you invited by our host, lord Erimonte?”
“In a matter of speaking, yes.” Aurelian blinked at that, eyeing the man up and down. “My relationship with lord Erimonte goes far, far back.”
“Let me guess; to the time of Azshara’s rule?”
“I have had a long life.” Was all he said on that matter. “I see you have drawn the attention of quite a few people here.” He waved a hand to various groups, the last of the guests having arrived sometime during Aurelian’s conversation with lord Erimonte. Quite a few had already taken to dancing; a masked assembly of unknown individuals living in luxury.
“Have I?” Aurelian turned as a servant walked by, grabbing a glass of arcwine from the table he held.
“There is no need to be humble in this regard; you arrive with esteemed company and speak with such; you have drawn quite a few eyes onto yourself.” He paused, looking over Aurelian’s shoulder. “Some hungry for you.” Aurelian’s ears perked as he heard footsteps behind him, turning casually.
“Lady Stargrove.” Aurelian gave a bow to the woman as she approached, no doubt having descended down shortly after Aurelian left.
“Lord Woodborne…"She paused, unsure of the black masked man.
"A friend; lord Vaol.”
“A friend?” She chuckled at that, seemingly amused. “Lord Woodborne, did I hear you were a duelist?” Aurelian could not helped but glance over her form; she was beautiful; indeed, almost as beautiful as Calithielwen was.
“I am my lady, though perhaps lady Indaris was a tad boastful.”
“A bit, though it got Lord Erimonte talking about you. Well, do you dance as well as you duel?” Aurelian gave his glass of arcwine to lord Vaol, uncaring of the man’s stature at that moment. The glass did not drop, so he assumed the man had grabbed it. Aurelian offered out a hand to the woman, smirking.
“Shall we see, my lady.” Cassanora took his hand, nodding.
“Indeed we shall; lead on, Lord Woodborne.”

40k & D&D crossover
So I've been playing with this idea for a couple of years now and only just recently started to work on it in earnest. So there will be headcanon posts coming/drabbles
So the D&D portion is based off of a homebrew (not mine I'm just a player) but I was making characters based off of the Primarchs and so I then decided hey why not expand upon this.
(God this is going to be messy as it's been ages since I've written last and somehow I recently got my ADHD ass dragged into lusting over COD men so forgive me)
The basis of this is all based on the fact that when Magnus fell to Chaos his soul got shattered (unsure if this was retconed or not) so one of these shards decided to save his brothers and through various points in time (and occasionally a space marine or two because time if flux for this Magnus shard)
* Debating on how much they actually know or if it's all Horus Heresy era knowledge. So when they all were brought to this new place the Heresy was still raw for them all. However they are all free from the corrupting influence of Chaos.
The brothers travelled together, which for a medieval setting they were practically a small warband of godlings, unsure of how long they travelled but during that time of them all figuring out their new home without Chaos or the Emperor around they helped Angron with his butchers nails.
Eventually the brothers split either due to a disagreement or just they found a part of the world they wanted to call home but eventually they split apart and each decided to start their own family.
Please let me know if anyone is interested in learning more as I'll need some help with names, classes, and races for some of them.

Vatican, Castel Sant'Angelo & Trastevere
14/05/2018: Today was a big day. Firstly, a trip to the Vatican to look around the Vatican Museums, something to fill in the middle of the day and then to the Trastevere for an evening food tour.
We made our way there by way of a couple of taxis, asking for Viale Vaticano and to be dropped off at Caffee Vaticano, straight across the road from the entrance to Musei Vaticani, the Vatican Museums. Waiting with the rest of the tourists on the steps at the end of via Tunisi and leading up to the Vatican from via Sebastiano Veniero, progress was made once everyone was identified and we were allocated our guide. As with the last time, although we did queue up in the Skip the Line line, we passed most of the people outside and went straight in, through the security and into the foyer of the museum.

Making sure the ear plugs work
Unlike our last visit, this time our guide took us to the Cortile della Pinacoteca only to overlook the Giardino Quadrato rather than be part of it. Focus then quickly shifted to the Museo Pio-Clementino which was founded by a couple of popes from which it received its name, Pope Pius VI and Pope Clemente XIV. It held several galleries including Sala a Croce Greca and  the porphyry Sarcophagi of Helena and Constantina.
Tumblr media
The red porphyry Sarcophagus of Costantia held the remains of the daughter of the Emperor Constantine the Great. A similar sarcophagus nearby once held the remains of her grandmother, Helena
Next stop was to check out the Flemish tapestries displayed within Galleria degli Arazzi. They were in pretty good nick, not sure if they were faded or not. One would think so if they were first displayed in the Sistine Capel during the first half of the fifteen hundreds.
Tumblr media
Taxi!!!
From the tapestries to the maps. With both being in hallways, the only complaint would be that no one could get back far enough to appreciate the works from a distance. The Galleria delle Carte Geografiche was as before, excellent. Possible one of the best displays in the whole joint.

Old Italy, one of forty geographical maps painted on the walls depicting Italian regions and the possessions of the Church at the time of Pope Gregory XIII
By ten we were well into the museum thing and well into the  Stanze di Raffaello including Sala Sobieski e dell'Immacolata and stanza dell incendio di borgo. We had to move on though. The Sistine lay ahead.
Tumblr media
She was Raphael'd out
One more room to go, the Sistine Chapel. But no, there was one before that, a contemporary display of more recent artists. They were long since gone but not as long gone as most in there. The small rooms contained the likes of Rodin, Morlotti, Van Gogh and Salvador Dali amongst other Spanish displays.
Tumblr media
Franco Gentilini: Cattedrale con natura morta e cane
Unless one wants to clinically identify all the stories within the ceiling of the Sistine Chapel, it doesn't take too long to check out. As magnificent as what it was, ten minutes pulled the place up. We all walked into the room and were immediately under the watchful gaze of the Noise Nazis. There were people everywhere which made it doubly uncomfortable. Wandering around like Brown's cows, our necks cranked upward, it was not hard to appreciate the beauty of the artwork, the striking scenes and stories, the complicated layout and above all, the tremendous feat Michelangelo managed in laying on his back for so long to get it all done. The room morphed from silence to rowdiness and back to silence depending on the frequency of the "shooshes" from the Noise Nazis as well as the constant bellowing of "No Photos", "No Photos". Stuff 'em. Typical Vatican, only allowing photographs of what they say. We got a few good ones in though.
Tumblr media
Sneaky one in the Sistine Chapel. Scenes from the bottom up, the Separation of Land and Water, Creation of Adam, Creation of Eve, the Fall of Man and the Sacrifice of Noah
A sea of admirers continually flowed in and subsequently out of the Sistine Chapel, mostly shoulder to shoulder for the duration of their visit. The few minutes spent inside were both congested and claustrophobic and as such, we joined in the outflow and rode the wave, past Scala Regio, down the ramp and into the courtyard, Cortile San Gregorio l'Illuminatore below. It was time for a short break. People could refill their water bottles with Holy Water from the fountain in the courtyard while the guide advised everyone of what was on offer around the area. Tickets to the top of the dome, the elevator if one was too lazy to climb the stairs and the gift shop.  The next stage was to enter the Basilica so if anyone wanted to avail themselves of what was on offer in the courtyard they would have to return later. It was time to press on.
Tumblr media
Looking down Scala Regia. The Bernini equestrian statue, Vision of Constantine was somewhere down there
Before long we were in the portico at the front of Saint Peter's Basilica and confronted by several doors which in at some point of time or for some reason allowed access to the Basilica. The first of five doors was the Holy Door, so named as it only opens during Holy Years which are twenty five years apart. Not only is it closed but bricked in so it cannot be opened inadvertently. The second was the Door of Sacraments, the one which allowed entry once through security. While queueing there was plenty of time to check out the oldest door from the early to mid fourteen hundreds. The Filarete Door was in the centre, showing six panels of religious stuff like Saint Paul losing his head and such, next to it was the Door of Good and Evil with each doors' panels showing as much and to the extreme left, the Door of Death which was the exit for funeral processions and the door where we would later leave the Basilica. Yes, we would be leaving via Death's Door.
Tumblr media
On the first day of a Holy Year, the Pope strikes the brick wall with a silver hammer and opens the Holy Door to the pilgrims.
The first stop inside, and a very popular one, was the Pieta, one of the great religious works carved by Michelangelo over five hundred years ago, depicting the Virgin Mary holding the body of Christ after he was released from the cross. An equally interesting spot was further down the front, past many other treasures to near the altar. As far as Shane was concerned, an equally interesting spot was right down the front where Ewan McGregor self combusted at some stage in some famous Tom Hanks movie. It was a no go area though.
Tumblr media
The Pieta, the only signed sculpture by Michelangelo. Not unlike Palestrina Pietà in Florence. Now behind glass due to some nutter taking to it with a hammer years earlier

Old mummified pope
Following the guide around the place, we ended up almost where we started, suggesting the tour was finished, but there was one more treat for us. She talked to someone in the know and ended up leading us down a tight staircase to an area within the foundations of the joint and to where many former popes were buried. We were warned that within this area no photos were permitted so we obliged by only taking a few.
Tumblr media
Tomb of Benedict XV, Giacomo Della Chiesa, from Genova
Upon leaving through Death's Door, we hooked a right and checked out the shenanigans of the Swiss Guard. This dedicated and deadly security force that is charged with protecting the Pope could easily be underestimated given their clown suit outfits. But don't be fooled. The Swiss Guards have been the "Defenders of the Church's freedom" ever since a hundered and fifty of them passed through the Porta del Popolo and entered for the first time the Vatican, where they were blessed by Pope Julius II. It was right on twelve so the changing of the guard was underway. That was it. Tour over.
Tumblr media
Changing of the Swiss Guard. Defenders of the Church's freedom
Upon exiting Piazza San Pietro and  keeping to the southern colonnade, we walked along via della Conciliazione and sat down at the entrance to Parco della Mole Adriana. Once the women caught up, Cecilia was thinking of her stomach again and insisted on finding a restaurant somewhere to eat. Shane and the boys chose a panini from Gastronomia,  a food van parked nearby. For a few euro instead of many they were fed, and within a few minutes instead of many. With the time saved they joined the short queue for Castel Sant'Angelo, the Mausoleum of Emperor Hadrian come fortress come Papal apartments. Jo and Cec looked for lunch.
Mausoleum Hadriani was built between 128 and 139 by Hadrian for Hadrian, his adopted kids and their adopted kids. Up until the rule of Emperor Nerva, Roman emperors' ashes were all put inside the Mausoleum of Augustus but the monument filled up. With no room left he had no choice but to build his own, not as big as Augustus's though. Cassius Dio wrote, "He had lived sixty-two years, five months and nineteen days, and had been emperor twenty years and eleven months. He was buried near the river itself, close to the Aelian bridge; for it was there that he had prepared his tomb, since the tomb of Augustus was full, and from this time no body was deposited in it." Nerva's successor, Trajan, was buried under his column in Forum Traiani leaving Hadrian out on a limb. Hadrian died  in 138 leaving it up to his adoptive soon Antoninus Pius to finish the job.
One hundred and thirty years later the mausoleum was incorporated into Rome's Muri Aureliani, the defensive walls begun by Emperor Aurelian and converted to a fortress, protecting Hadrian's ashes and his descendants until the Visgoths and King Alaric sacked the joint in 410, thereby seeding Rome's demise over the coming decades. Hieronymus, commonly referred to as Saint Jerome, in a letter to Principia wrote, "My voice sticks in my throat; and, as I dictate, sobs choke my utterance. The city which had taken the whole world was itself taken."
Tumblr media
Hadrian's Mausoleum come papal residence
As the boys paid and moved into Ambulacro di Bonifacio IX,  an annular corridor of darkened walkways encircling the main structure within and bounded by the protective rectangular walls, founded on the original square base of the mausoleum, fragments of ancient statues lined the path which eventually led to the diametral ramp. This passageway was cut through the monument as part of the fortifications but halfway up was a substantial chasm based with earth and rubble, originally the sepulchral cell below. A nineteenth century iron bridge now breaches the gap, replacing the long gone drawbridge constructed almost five hundred years earlier.
They had reached the second level of seven and at the rear of the structure, walking along the ramparts that linked all four bastions, and the first stop was to look around the area from above, passing a sentry box attached to what was said to be the armoury, a building modified by Pope Clement X Altieri during the late sixteen hundreds. The armoury at the top, prisons in the centre and powder deposits at ground level (could have been trouble if the prisoners escaped), all located adjacent to Bastione San Luca , at the northeast corner of the castle.
Tumblr media

Moving back toward the Tiber, the next bastion, Bastione San Giovanni was the next of the polygonal bulwarks, within which the gunboats were located. This one also had a small representation of a sixteenth-century gunsmith's workshop.

Cordonata of Paul III, leading up to Level 3. Busts of Hadrian and a togate in the niches halfway down
Level three contained the historical prisons. Three to be exact and were effectively built underground as the only light came from an opening to the level above.  One of the cells hosted the celebrated Renaissance sculptor and goldsmith, Benvenuto Cellini (remember Perseus with the Head of Medusa in Loggia dei Lanzi). He was a passionate craftsman, draftsman, soldier, musician, artist, poet and braggart. You name it he was good at it. He was also good at doing time, repeatedly prosecuted for sodomy, theft, and murder. He done time here for about a year and escaped after getting wind of the pope going to lop off his head for one of his crimes. The pope put it off though due to Corpus Domini in 1538. Getting wind of what was about to happen, he escaped with outside help but was recaptured and relocated in a more secure area, a cell and large cistern for water. Complaining of the tarantulas, poisonous worms and also of the fact that there was "a lot of water " must have done some good as he died many years later in Florence.

The next level consisted of courtyards and linkages to the papal apartments. Cortile d'Onore was the first one that was visited, dominated by a marble and bronze statue of Saint Michael the Archangel after whom the castle was dedicated. This courtyard was bounded by the armoury to the outside and the rooms of the papal residence behind Saint Michael. On the other side of the papal rooms, the Courtyard of Alexander VI joined the off limits Courtyard of Pope Leo X.

It was then up to the Giretto of Alessandro VII, a walk around the periphery and above Cortile d'Onore. There were several places of interest there. Firstly the Armoury, consisting of four rooms which had displays of military uniforms, weapons, armour and other military memorabilia and secondly the café where we could have a rest and have a beer. The terrace café was quite popular with most tables for more than two taken. There was an impressive view across the city available from several tables as well but the stiff cold breeze explained why. A table was bagsed out of the wind and  a reintroduction to Saint Stephanus was made. Not since Caffé Pitti all those days ago in Florence did the two meet.

Meanwhile, not impressed with just a panini, Cecilia took Jo and went in search of "proper" food, heading off through some alley ways where they finally settled in at the little café, Panico Ristorante Pizzeria just across the Tiber. Cec could now have what she had been yearning for ages, an authentic Italian pineapple pizza.

When the breeze was braved the Roman roofscape was on offer. Looking out the embrasures allowed a view of Bastione San Marco and the Passetto di Borgo, the protected walkway that shielded the Pope as he made his way between the Vatican, some eight hundred metres to the west and Castel Sant'Angelo. It paid for itself in spades during the Sack of Rome of 1527 when Pope Clement VII Medici and his entourage fled to the safety of the fortress through Passetto di Borgo while the remnants of a massacred Swiss Guard Unit held off the attacking Habsburg soldiers of Emperor Charles V. The rest is history.

After the break the men pressed on to the papal accommodation and associated rooms. Keeping to Giretto of Alessandro VII and moving clockwise, they found themselves within Loggia di Paolo III, built during the mid fifteen hundreds and overlooking the area to the north and west. Overlooking Prati and out to Monte Mario, and over towards the Vatican area. Adjacent to the loggia was the entrance to the private apartments of Paolo III Farnese.

Over the threshold, a right turn, and they were in what was once one of the most protected areas in the fortress, Sala della Biblioteca and Sala del Tesoro where the Archives of the Papal States and the Secret Archive and other documents were stored as well as the treasury and other precious objects.  Sala del Tesoro was a round room utilising the original roman central tower of the mausoleum, secured by two closed doors and only opened with keys held by the Pope's Secret Treasurer and the Cardinal Dean.

The seventh and last level consisted of a couple of small rooms, one of which contained some sort of modern type art. Sala Rotonda was located directly above Sala del Tesoro and was created by building a floor to separate it from the room below. Originally a chapel, around sixteen hundred it was utilised for storage of the secret papal archives that the Sala del Tesoro couldn't handle. These documents took the name of the "Old Archive".  Sala delle Colonne was built in the mid seventeen hundreds to house the "New Archive".  Two smaller adjoining rooms, Saletta dei Labari dei reparti d’assalto and Sala degli Stendardi della Cavalleria were decorated in patriotic war themes, after World War I and intended to hold Italian war relics.

They were finally at the top of the fortress, overlooked only by the Statua di San Michele Arcangelo perched on high, sword drawn from his sheath as if protecting all from those who would dare to strike. The archangel also overlooked the terrace that had been the scene of the Girandole, the fireworks that, for hundreds of years marked pontifical elections and religious or city celebrations (after ensuring that the shutters on the Sala Rotonda windows were well shut). The terrace also provided a beautiful view of the surrounding city, from the Vatican Museum to the west, across the Tiber and to the Mausoleum of Augustus to the east. After some time enjoying the scenery, it was time to move back down to pick up what they missed on the way up.

Retracing their steps somewhat, dropping a couple of levels and moving counter clockwise through  the Revolution and rooms of Pius IV, they moved through the Giretto displaying Hadrianic fragments from the original mausoleum and to where they were a bit earlier, the Loggia di Paolo III.  A set of stairs leading to Cortile di Alessandro VI in turn led to   impressive papal rooms including Sala Paolina, Sala del Perseo and the Sala di Amore e Psiche, culminating in a  collection of arms at the Armerie and the Sale di Clemente VIII.

That was it. Exiting through Sala di Apollo, the exit was made via Rampa elicoidale to the Dromos e Atrium. The helical ramp, built around the time of Trajan and Hadrian and significant with the funeral procession and the emperor's last journey, was sealed during the sixth century for defensive reasons. It wasn't dug up again until the early eighteen hundreds.

The ramp ended out onto the street to some extent, so heading back down through more tunnels and walkways to a section that would have been below water when a moat existed, remnants of the fortresses past with architectural bits and pieces positioned in rooms and in varying stages of decay appeared. The rooms also had scale models of the fortress depicting the different constructions over the centuries. This display should have been in a more prominent place.  The end was nigh, everyone exiting Castel Sant'Angelo very satisfied with the effort. This place was money well spent.

By mid afternoon it was time to return to the apartment via  Piazza Navona and the  Temple of the Nymphs along  via delle Botteghe Oscure. Upon arrival, energy was being expended on washing clothes. Jo and Cec had had their afternoon nap, were catching up on some chores and preparing for the soon to be, Trastevere Food Tour.
Shortly before six, we jumped into a cab and were duly dropped off across the Tiber from Piazza di San Bartolomeo all'Isola, the meeting place and where the tour would commence. It was a little after six when we headed off to the first restaurant due to one couple being a few minutes late. There were the five of us, two other Aussies and four Yanks.
Crossing the Tiber again, our group were taken through a few side streets until we were in Via dei Vascellari and shortly after outside of Da Enzo Trattoria. From the roadway we were given a piece of advice. We were eating before the evening rush hours of the restaurant as later on it was so popular that it was always booked out, and as such there was plenty of room so we were shown inside and introduced to the owner (or just the waiter). The two courses that stood out was the Carciofi alla Giudia (fried artichoke) which had the centre removed and deep fried, positioned upside down in the middle of the plate and covered in a sprinkling of olive oil, salt and pepper. An apt choice given that the meal is Jewish in origin and we were in the Jewish Quarter. The other was a delicious serving of Burrata cheese, served as a ball of what looked like runny, lumpy yoghurt covered in a mozzarella skin. We could have had more of that.

Next was a trip through the narrow streets to Restaurante Spirito di Vino a short distance away. The front door was on Via dei Genovesi where we entered the last time but this time went through a side entrance from a side lane, Vicolo dell'Atleta. This took us straight down the stairs to the basement to sample some wines and morsels. The building itself was extremely old but where we were served, cavernous ancient cellars were B.C. type old. The room was quite dark with wine racks covering some of the walls, bottles covered in a healthy layer of dust. The mood wasn't dark though, everyone loved it.

Cheers, big ears
After the experience at Restaurante Spirito di Vino and on the way to the biscuit shop, the guide pointed out a distant Santa Cecilia. Declaring her interest, Cec suggested that we drop in their in the coming days for a look. After all she was named after Saint Cecilia. Years ago Cecilia's mother had piano lessons as a young girl, taught by the nuns at the convent. She hated the lessons but loved the paintings of Saint Cecilia that hung on the wall near the piano.
The biscuit shop, Biscottificio Artigiano Innocenti was on Via della Luce.
Tumblr media
We were sat down here and given samples of their produce. The Brutto ma Buono (translation-ugly but good) made from sugar, egg whites and nuts was particularly nice so we took a bagful with us.
Then given the opportunity to work off the biscuits with the hike to the next place, we moseyed onto the delicatessen, Antica Norcineria Iacozzilli, porchetta being their specialty. The slow roasted  pork was nice and juicy within and crispy without. Three generations have made it so.

Then the hole in the wall on Via di San Francesco a Ripa. The I Suppli sell takeaway suppli only. Once you buy the risotto, marinara and mozzarella egg shaped rice balls, take them outside and eat on the footpath. As we did.

Another long walk then ensued, onto  Casa Mia in Via della Renella. Our guide stopped for a while at a church in Piazza di Santa Maria called Basilica di Santa Maria in Trastevere. This place, we were told held the head of Saint Apollonia, the Patron Saint of dentistry who had her teeth smashed in by an unruly mob some time back. They then built a fire to burn her but she jumped in before they had the pleasure of throwing her in. Bits of her are all over the place in European churches.

The conversation must have been a bit boring. For Jo anyway
To finish off, it was back across town to Fatamorgana ice cream shop on Via Roma Libera. The gelato here wasn't the fluffy stuff in the tourist areas. It was fair dinkum gelato, characteristic of the natural colouring that would be expected if nothing artificial were added (we eat all types).
With gelato gone, we said our goodbyes to the other foody tourists and headed to the nearby taxi rank. Tomorrow, Cec and the boys are booked into the Coliseum. Jo and Shane will tackle Forum Romanum.

Galatasaray-Beşiktaş Derbisi
Derbilerin sonucunu kestirmek her zaman güçtür.
Ricardo Quaresma ve Cenk Tosun’un yükselen formunun yanı sıra Anderson Talisca’nın takıma dönmesi Şenol Güneş’i hücum anlamında rahatlatıyor.
Derbide mutlak galibiyete ihtiyaç duyan taraf Galatasaray.

Merry christmas and happy new year in greek
Christmas is a yearly celebration honoring the introduction of Jesus Christ,[7][8] watched most ordinarily on December 25 as a religious and social festival among billions of individuals around the world.A devour key to the Christian ceremonial year, it is gone before by the period of Advent or the Nativity Fast and starts the period of Christmastide, which generally in the West keeps going twelve days and comes full circle on Twelfth Night;in a few customs, Christmastide incorporates an Octave. Christmas Day is an open occasion in huge numbers of the world's nations,is commended religiously by a greater part of Christians, and additionally socially by numerous non-Christians,and structures a basic piece of the Christmas season. In a few nations, observing Christmas Eve has the principle concentrate as opposed to Christmas Day.  merry christmas in greek
In spite of the fact that the month and date of Jesus' introduction to the world are obscure, by the ahead of schedule to-mid fourth century the Western Christian Church had set Christmas on December 25, a date that was later embraced in the East.Today, most Christians celebrate on December 25 in the Gregorian date-book, which has been received generally in the common logbooks utilized as a part of nations all through the world. Be that as it may, some Eastern Christian Churches observe Christmas on December 25 of the more seasoned Julian timetable, which at present compares to January 7 in the Gregorian date-book, the day after the Western Christian Church commends the Epiphany. This isn't a difference over the date of Christmas all things considered, yet rather an inclination of which date-book ought to be utilized to decide the day that is December 25.
In spite of the fact that it isn't known why December 25 turned into a date of festivity, there are a few factors that may have impacted the decision. December 25 was the date the Romans set apart as the winter solstice,[23] the most brief and darkest day of the year, and the main day in which the days would start to stretch and the Sun would have a more drawn out nearness in the sky; Jesus was related to the Sun in view of an Old Testament verse.[24] December 25 is precisely nine months following the Crucifixion of Jesus, which, around the third century, moved toward becoming related with his origination in light of understandings at the season of the way salvation is bound up in birth and demise; a few speculations at that point had the date of the Crucifixion as his birthday, others took the date nine months after the fact: Christmas day. Also, Ancient Romans had a progression of agnostic celebrations close to the finish of the year, and Christmas may have been planned right now to fitting, or rival, at least one of these festivals. Some researchers can't help contradicting this last elucidation and express that the Roman Emperor Aurelian put an agnostic festival on December 25 so as to contend with the developing rate of the Christian Church, which had just been observing Christmas on that date.[
