It’ll be crawling with college students.” Sirius was terrible at coming up with excuses, but he really just wanted to go home and binge watch whatever crappy superhero show was currently trending on Netflix, avoiding humans altogether. Mary scoffed, “Exactly! Sirius, you need to get out and have some fun. How are you going to meet people moping around your mansion all the time? A fresh young college student could do you some good.” “Hey, I meet people around the mansion! The new night guard at Godric’s Hollow, Shacklebolt, he’s a great guy. We have fascinating talks. You know he trains wild animals as a hobby? The guy has a pet lynx!” Mary stared at him for a few beats before she busted up, laughing, “Sirius Black, you are coming out with us tonight. Go home and put on those tight black jeans that really show off that ass, and we’ll pick you up at nine.”

So, when Regulus started nuzzling his neck, pressing small, sweet kisses to his skin and mumbling about how delicious he smelled, Remus didn’t push him away, he didn’t ask him to stop. And when Regulus’s hand was at his neck, fingers carding through his hair, massaging his scalp, he gave in completely. He turned into the embrace, finding Regulus’s lips with his own. Moments after Jaguars quarterback Trevor Lawrence laid motionless on the turf after taking a hit from Texans defensive back Azeez Al-Shaair, the teams engaged in a huge brawl that spilled onto the sideline. Lawrence was running for a first down and slid to give himself up on the play. Al-Shaair did not pull up and made a vicious hit to the upper body and helmet of the quarterback. As soon as the hit was delivered, tight end Evan Engram is the first to start shoving Al-Shaair, with several others from both teams involved in the brawl seconds later.

Winning smart

Contrast the play back-up Packers RB Chris Brooks made late in the Jacksonville game, with Tyrique Stevenson’s play at the end of the Chicago-Washington game. They’re two huge plays that impacted the outcome. One is full of smarts and poise the other, immature, dumb and unprofessional.

Yes, in a game dominated by elite athletes, intelligence matters.

Taking a smart knee

Brooks heady play to take a knee after gaining a first down, rather than go for his first ever NFL touchdown, was brilliant. By taking the knee he forced Jacksonville to burn its last time-out and allowed Green Bay to win it on the last play with a chip shot field goal.

It was only one example of smart play saving the Packers on Sunday.

Devonte Wyatt’s impressive hip-check of Evan Engram on his way to recovering a game changing fumble was also savvy and sharp. Wyatt literally knocked Engram out of the camera shot while he went to dive on the loose ball. That may have been the biggest play of the game that the Packers quickly turned into 7-points.

Later in the 2nd quarter, Packers tight end Tucker Kraft showed off his smarts. Kraft turned a 30ish yard completion into a 67-yard gain by knowing his leverage, angle and size advantage over Jacksonville safety Andre Cisco to squeeze out an extra 30-yard gain.

Intelligence as a trait

Is this great scouting by GM Brian Gutekunst and his scouting team? Are these players just demonstrating the importance of good coaching? Should the players get the credit for showing poise and smarts? Yes to all. In every game, players and coaches make good and bad decisions. We could surely find dumb plays the Packers made against the Jags on Sunday.

Still, it’s hard to understate the value of big plays made possible by exceptionally smart players doing the right thing in the moment. It’s easy to contrast the Packer plays with the bonehead choice made on the last play by Tyrique Stevenson for Chicago. That contrast is telling and made for a fun Sunday.

Williams, Bears blast through Jaguars overseas, 35-16.

We are now in the Caleb Williams era.

The Chicago Bears flew to London and stomped on the Jaguars 35-16. Caleb Williams had an impressive win, going 23 of 29 for 226 yards and four touchdowns. Williams also ran the ball four times for 56 yards. 

Williams threw two touchdowns to tight end Cole Kmet in the first half and two touchdowns to wide receiver Keenan Allen in the second half,

The Jaguars' drive went to the Bears' 12-yard line. Jacksonville ran 14 plays, which resulted in a 30-yard field goal, giving the Jaguars their only lead in the game, 3-0. 

After that drive, the Chicago Bears took control for the rest of the game, but Jacksonville didn't have an answer for most of the first half. 

In the second half, the Jaguars quarterback completed what could have been a 20-yard completion to tight end Evan Engram, but Bears linebacker T.J Edwards punched the ball out, and Bears cornerback Elijah Higgins recovered, which resulted in a Keenan Allen touchdown. 

Bears tight end Cole Kmet had himself a game, hauling in 5 catches for 70 yards and 2 touchdowns. Kmet even played long snapper for the remainder of the game as their starting long snapper, Scott Daly, was ruled out with a knee injury in the first quarter. There wasn't even a change in the long snapper. Kmet held his own at long snapper.  

Chicago scored 35 points today and 36 points last week vs. the Carolina Panthers. This is the first time the Bears have scored 35 points or more in back-to-back games since 2013.

The Bears came hungry, sacking Trevor Lawrence 3 times and forcing 3 turnovers

The Jaguars looked horrible as they entered 1-5 on the season. Quarterback Trveor Lawernce went for 23-of-35 for 234 yards and two touchdowns with an interception, 

The Jaguars had 3 turnovers on the day; they came into the game with 5 on the season. 

It's unsure about Doug Peterson's job security look, but it's not good after this 1-5 start.

If Peterson gets fired this week, it's best not to lose while playing over the season. The New York Jets fired head coach Robert Selah last week after losing to the Minnesota Vikings in London.

Chicago Bears will fly back to the country and head into their bye week at 4-2, while Jacksonville will sit in London over the week and think about the game they just played as they take on the New England Patriots in London at 1-5.
