It just dawned on me why Odysseus was so quiet the day of Scylla.
He was trying to choose. Six men for six heads. But who would he choose? How could he choose? He hated this decision.
That man probably had so many questions swirling around in his head and he was running out of time with which to answer them.
And then... Eurylochus.
And then he had his answer. He couldn't choose. But Eurylochus could. That would be his punishment. Light up six torches. Choose six torchbearers.
Choose.
Now, who is Odysseus mimicking here?

I am actually interested in how somehow it became universal that Ctimene would be that much fixated on her husband like Odysseus is to Penelope. Technically speaking Ctimene marries Eurylochus in an arrangement and Odysseus receives a large dowry for her.
In my mind her relationship with him would be more typical than passionate but for sure she would be sad upon hearing her husband's death.
I was planning on writing a story about her wedding as well about her learning on her husband's passing but I am actually really interested how many people assume her own wedding was the type of loving or passionate as it is with her brother and Penelope.
Quite frankly her relationship with her husband would seem to me like Agamemnon with Clytemnestra pre-Iphigenia incident; typical mutual trust and respectful. In a way she "learning to love him" because he was married to her. However I am not sure if her love for Eurylochus would be the same type as the one Penelope has for Odysseus

Eurylochus and Ctimene quotes
(Ctimene is Odysseus' younger sister and Eurylochus' wife)
Ctimene: We have a problem. Eurylochus: No, YOU have a problem. I have an idiot who keeps making them.
-
Eurylochus: I don't know how to tell you this, but… I love you. Ctimene: That's great, Eurylochus. Especially considering the fact we've been married for 6 fucking years.
-
Ctimene: Come to dinner tonight. I can’t cook, but I’ll bring plenty of free wine. Eurylochus: Marry me.
-
Ctimene: Can you cut me some slack, Eurylochus? I’m sort of in love. Eurylochus: I’m sorry, but that’s really not my problem. Ctimene: I’m in love with you. Eurylochus: *blushes* Oh. That brings me in the loop a little.
-
Ctimene: I'm trash. Eurylochus: As someone who's environmentally conscious, it's my duty to pick you up. Does 7 work for you? Ctimene: Ctimene: You smooth motherfucker. Ctimene: And yes it does.
-
Ctimene: Goodnight to the love of my life, Eurylochus, and fuck the rest of y'all.
-
Eurylochus, trying to flirt: So, you come around here often? Ctimene, confused: I mean, this is my house, so yeah.
-
Ctimene: You are the love of my life and I would do anything within reason to make you happy. Eurylochus: I would be happy if you ate, stayed hydrated and got a reasonable amount of sleep. Ctimene: I said within reason, Eurylochus. How about I murder that guy? Eurylochus: So murder is in reason but proper self care isn't? Ctimene: Well, duh. What kind of question is that?
-
Eurylochus: Smart is attractive. Educate me on something I don't know! Ctimene: The mouth of a jellyfish is also an anus. Eurylochus: Stop.
-
*Ctimene and Eurylochus are in Paris* Ctimene: I'm…moved. I…I don't know what it is I'm feeling right now. I feel…destiny? Eurylochus: But… Ctimene: I don't know what it is. I feel like… I just never thought I'd see it with my own two eyes. And here it is. It's just there. It's right in front of me, and… Eurylochus: This is what you wanted to see? The bridge from Inception? Ctimene: Yeah. Eurylochus: But the Eiffel Tower is behind us, babe. Ctimene: Yeah, but this is the bridge FROM INCEPTION. Eurylochus: Okay, alright.

Odysseus: (screams)
Eurylochus: Are you alright? What was that?
Odysseus: I just thought about my hardships and everything in the way of us getting home and it’s like my mind hand touched a hot memory stove.

Odysseus crew: *watching him from the afterlife*
Elpenor: Look, he's hunting down the suitors! He's gonna kill them all!
Eurylochus: Maybe you were right, Polites. Violence has only lead to more violence. Perhaps the Captain would be better off showing mercy before he goes too far.
Polites: Are you fucking kidding me?! You heard what they were planning to do to Penelope and their son!! He should butcher every one of them!!!

Random question: (sorry is dark so beware)
If Odysseus's crew while trapped at Helios's Island. If instead of the cows of the God's flock they started eating each other (like future sailing traditions sometimes did) would they make it home? 🤔
I mean TECHNICALLY they wouldn't have touched the cows which would fulfill the prophecy or Tiresias for their return but knowing the reactions of gods upon acts of cannibalism even if they did lay a foot on their land would they be able to feel joy for it or would they get cursed for their entire lives and the future generations to come?
Food for thought (sorry pun not intended)

I think he knows, like he notice Scylla was Only attacking those with the flashlight so he passed the flashlight to the man he was saving.
And the whole mutiny things may be cause Odysseus was ready to sacrifice HIM not only the crew.
I would like to note that Eurylochus was holding one of the six torches. And he only survived because he handed his torch to someone else without knowing Scylla would target it.
