the sinjar mountains in northwestern iraq are an important place for the yazidi religion, in which god created the mountains with one mausoleum on each of their peaks so they would remain stable. historically, yazidi most likely fled to the mountains around the 13th century, as they faced massacre from atabeg badr al-din lu'lu' of mosul.
these mausoleums house the bodies of several important yazidi figures who lived in the 12th-14th centuries. unfortunately, several were destroyed by isis in the 2010s, but several others still remain.

Take action now
These are ideas for what you can do in the short-term or with some preparation. Start with:
Ask you government to call on the European Commission to withdraw the chat control proposal. Point them to a joint letter that was recently sent by children’s rights and digital rights groups from across Europe. Click here to find the letter and more information.
Check your government’s position (see above) and, if they voted in favour or abstained, ask them to explain why. Tell them that as a citizen you want them to reject the proposal, that chat control is widely criticised by experts and that none of the proposals tabled in the Council of the EU so far are acceptable. Ask them to protect the privacy of your communication and your IT security.
Share this call to action online.
When reaching out to your government, the ministries of the interior (in the lead) of justice and of digitisation/telecommunications/economy are your best bet. You can additionally contact the permanent representation of your country with the EU.
It can also be useful to reach out to Members of your national Parliament who can determine your country’s vote. Talk to your political representatives. Whether it is the newly elected MEPs of the European Parliament or local groups of the political parties: make sure everyone is aware of what chat control is about and that you expect politicians to defend your fundamental rights against the proposal!
When contacting politicians, writing a real letter, calling in or attending a local party event or visiting a local office to have a conversation will have a stronger impact than writing an e-mail. You can find contact details on their websites. Just remember that while you should be determined in your position, remain polite, as they will otherwise disregard what you have to say. Here is useful argumentation on chat control. And here is argumentation for why the minor modifications so far envisioned by EU governments fail to address the dangers of chat control: by us, by EDRi, by CDT.
As we continue the fight against against chat control, we need to expand the resistance:
Explain to your friends why this is an important topic. This short video, translated to all European languages, is a good start – feel free to use and share it. Also available on PeerTube (EN) and YouTube (DE).
Taking action works better and is more motivating when you work together. So try to find allies and form alliances. Whether it is in a local hackspace or in a sports club: your local action group against chat control can start anywhere. Then you can get creative and decide which type of action suits you best.
Take action now. We are the resistance against chat control!

istg l'm going to start headcannoning every strictly fem/masc and inbetween character from al your favourite media as non-binary and post about it constantly.
This is a threat.
So tired of people viewing 'NON-binary' through the lense of; They/Them pronouns, frogs and mushrooms, androgynous looking, afab, white, delicate features etc etc. So sick of it. Sure those people exist under the umbrella of non-binary, the thing with non-binary you see... IT'S NOT A FUCKING BINARY, it's not a third gender, gender expression does not equal gender identity, STEREOTYPES ARE STILL STEREOTYPES no matter how cute.
I beg people to go outside, look for your local queer community and you'll be surprised just how not binary it can be. That very masculine person may not identify with any masc gender labels, the always dolled up popular 'girl' may be unlabeled (Unlabeled people are not for you to put under a label based on how they look or express themselves). Go to a rainbow house if your town has one, support groups, just talk to people you meet at hobbies, even involving yourself with the local (not queer) community can bring you a surprise.
Stop trying to make non-binary a third gender.

Idk man, I don't think European people know how awful it is in America even under democratic rule
We have barely there CDC, barely there social nets, we have no guaranteed maternity leave by law, no guaranteed PTO/sick days by law, no socialized medicine, only a few guaranteed national holidays where people might actually have a day of rest
And now we have fucktrump wanting to take away what little we have

👮 Orange is the New Red, White, and Blue: Prison Reform NOW!
AN OPEN LETTER to THE PRESIDENT & U.S. CONGRESS; STATE GOVERNORS & LEGISLATURES
1 so far! Help us get to 5 signers!
I am writing to urge immediate action towards transforming our corrections system from one focused on punishment and control, to a model centered on human dignity and rehabilitation. The current punitive approach perpetuates cycles of incarceration, abuse, and societal disintegration, ultimately failing to rehabilitate individuals and reintegrate them into our communities.
Recent analyses of European prison systems, such as Norway's Halden Prison, demonstrate the effectiveness of a human dignity approach. At Halden, private rooms, communal living spaces, vocational training, and family contact are prioritized, resulting in lower rates of violence and recidivism. This approach not only fosters humane treatment but also proves to be cost-effective in the long term.
We must shift away from a system that dehumanizes individuals and perpetuates a cycle of incarceration and abuse. Instead, we must embrace a model that prioritizes rehabilitation, second chances, and societal reintegration. Comprehensive prison reform that centers on human dignity is not only morally imperative but also a crucial step towards creating a more just and equitable society.
It is time to end modern slave labor within the for-profit prison industrial complex and invest in rehabilitation-focused treatment. We have a responsibility to nurture emotionally intelligent individuals and provide real opportunities for those who have been failed by the system.
I urge you to support and advocate for legislation that embodies the principles of human dignity and rehabilitation. Let us work together to ensure that every individual receives a genuine second chance and the opportunity to rebuild their lives.
Justice for the American people! Together we can say NO to Modern Slave Labor in the USA! Let's make their second chance count! Thank you for your attention to this critical issue.

New UK rules to hold social media companies accountable for their content
The UK Online Safety Act imposes new obligations on social media companies, making them responsible for their content.
The bill came into force on 26 October 2023, but will take full effect next year. UK media regulator Ofcom will then monitor its implementation and take action against companies that fail to comply.
The recent outbreak of violence in the UK has been linked to the spread of misinformation on social media. This sparked protests across the country and resulted in numerous arrests and detentions, as well as significant property damage across the UK.
Following the stabbing attack in the English seaside town of Southport on 29 July, when 17-year-old Axel Rudakubana killed three children and injured 10 others, radical groups coordinated protests on social media platforms, spreading speculative news and calling for protests against migrants and Muslims.
British Prime Minister Keir Starmer hinted at tougher measures if social media companies did not work harder to remove harmful content, accusing them of inciting violence.
The new law would criminalise the dissemination of false or threatening content intended to cause psychological or physical harm. It will also impose new duties on social media platforms to remove illicit content such as incitement to racial hatred and criminal activity.
Companies that fail to comply can be fined up to £18 million ($24 million) or 10 per cent of their worldwide revenue, whichever is greater. Senior executives can also face criminal prosecution if they fail to comply with Ofcom’s information requirements.

Today might just be the day.
Wake up, get up, and start the process of hacking this beard off my face. The 6 week mark is usually when my mustache starts growing into my mouth. Not to mention I haven’t been using any coconut oil on it, so it’s very dry and brittle. Plus my beard has always been rather coarse to start with.
This could take a while, and probably a few razor blades.

Are parabens really harmful?
Parabens are a class of chemicals that are commonly used as preservatives in cosmetics, personal care products, and some food products. There has been some concern in recent years that parabens may be harmful to human health, particularly in terms of their potential to act as endocrine disruptors, which are chemicals that can interfere with the body's hormonal system.
However, the scientific consensus on the safety of parabens is that they are generally safe for use in cosmetics and personal care products at the concentrations typically used. Regulatory agencies such as the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and the European Union's Scientific Committee on Consumer Safety (SCCS) have evaluated the available evidence and determined that parabens, when used as directed, do not pose a significant health risk to consumers.
That being said, some individuals may be sensitive or allergic to parabens, and may experience skin irritation or other adverse effects as a result. In addition, some people may choose to avoid parabens for personal or environmental reasons, as they are not biodegradable and can potentially accumulate in the environment over time.
Overall, while parabens have been the subject of some controversy, the weight of scientific evidence suggests that they are generally safe for use in cosmetics and personal care products, and are an effective means of preventing microbial growth and extending the shelf life of these products.
