Miami - December 2023
Just back from an action packed two and half days in Miami which featured stops at half a dozen art fairs and visits to a few private collections and a museum. With worrisome headlines front and center and a squishy economic outlook, one might have expected a more subdued reception to this year’s art week festivities in Magic City, but by all accounts, it was full steam ahead for art fans and aficionados. The fairs seemed to get super-sized, the crowds appeared to be bigger, and the city was grid locked for the better part of full days and evenings as people tried to make the most of all that was being offered. Once you eventually got to wherever you were going, it was all great. The art rose above all the noise, and a marvelous viewing experience was served up and fully appreciated.
The itinerary for the trip included: INK, Untitled and Scope fairs on arrival in South Beach; the de la Cruz and Margulies private collections, the Rubell Museum, and NADA and Art Miami fairsthe next day in and around the Miami Design District; and then Art Basel Miami Beach back on the other side of Biscayne Bay on departure day. While not all fairs are created equal, part of the thrill is the journey and finding those special works that resonate wherever they may show up. And, in that regard, there were many exciting discoveries and some magnificent reacquaintances.
The mainstay and anchor of the art festivities was Art Basel Miami Beach which celebrated its 21st edition with 277 exhibitors from 33 countries. While that was the official gallery count, multiple booths by some gallerists together with the proliferation of focus sections spread throughout the Miami Convention Center catapulted the number of exhibits to well over 300. With a view to making it more manageable for fairgoers (albeit questionably so), the fair was organized into curated groupings featuring top-of-the-line modern and contemporary galleries in the main section and then, in other dedicated spaces, diverse curatorial initiatives such as emerging artists, thematic exhibitions and large-scale projects, among others. Perhaps at the expense of a shrinking modern master presence and notwithstanding the diversity in presentation concepts, the focus of the fair was clearly tilted towards the new as established and emerging contemporary art was at the forefront. There was also noticeable excitement around Untitled in what seemed to be an invigorating revamping of that fair’s physical presence and gallery lineup. Under its fortified bright white tent situated right on the beach, Untitled lived up to its billing as the quintessential Miami art fair and delivered a strong roster of 166 North American and international exhibitors focused intensely on contemporary art. Among the other visits, the incredible collections at the de la Cruz, the Margulies and the Rubell did not disappoint, and the opportunity to enjoy beautiful paintings, sculptures and on-site installations housed in marvelous settings without the chaos of crowded fair corridors was surreal.
Across all fairs, there were many memorable pieces. At Art Basel, the showstoppers included: Rebecca Morris’ “Untitled (#14-15)”, 2015, oil and spray paint on canvas (111 x 113.5 in.); Antonio Ballester Moreno’s “Azul”, 2023, acrylic on jute (78.75 x 57 in.); Gareth Nyandoro’s “Street Canteen”, 2023, ink on cut paper mounted to canvas (57.5 x 94 in.); and Phoebe Boswell’s “A Knowledge Becoming”, 2023, pastel on paper (60.25 x 48.5 in.). At Untitled, the highlights included: Rafael Lozano-Hemmer’s “Thermal Drift Density Map”, 2022, custom software, computer, thermal camera, screen (dimensions variable), edition of 6, 1AP; and Concetto Pozzati’s “Inventario”, 1963, oil on canvas (60.63 x 75.25 in.). Other special sightings included: a pair of Esteban Vincente works, “The West”, 1980, oil on canvas (68 x 56 in.) and “Inside Red”, 1986, oil on canvas (56 x 68 in.) at Art Miami; Vanessa Gully Santiago’s “Self Portrait in a Red Dress”, 2022, acrylic on canvas (30 x 24 in) at NADA; and Peter Grippe’s “Figure”, 1950, watercolour on paper (8 x 5 in.) at INK. Special kudos to Sudanese-Canadian artist Azza El Siddique’s critically acclaimed installation, “Final Fantasy”, involving metal work scaffolding, dripping water, eroding clay-fired pots with a central four-sided monitor scrolling the English translation of Egyptian and Nubian funerary texts. Emitting a mystical transcendental vibe, the temple-like installation captivated fairgoers and was an Art Basel fan favorite.
Among the private collections, it was great to again see longstanding much admired works, including:Noah Davis’ “Painting for my Dad”, 2011, oil on canvas (76 x 91 in.) at the Rubell; an installation of familiar works at the de la Cruz by Félix González-Torres which included “Untitled” (America #3), 1992, 42 light bulbs, extension cords and porcelain light sockets (variable size), “Untitled” (Portrait of Dad), 1991, white mint candies, endless supply (ideal weight 175 lbs), and “Untitled”, 1989/1990, offset print on paper, endless copies, two stacks (56 x 23 in. each, ideal height 26 in.); and Leondro Erlich’s “Elevator Pitch” at the Margulies, 2011, automatic door operator, sliding doors, stainless steel, button panel, rear screen video projection, Mac mini-computer, 5 minutes, looped.
While things were frenzied in Miami, it was probably equally so in Hogtown as Torontonian sports fans relished the very real possibility of landing Shohei Ohtani. The Dodo Birds were among the few shortlisted in the hunt for the truly generational talent, but regrettably, after all was said and done, the Dodgers signed him with the lure of perpetual sunshine and a whopping $700 million 10-year contract. Quite incredible.  For a short while, the hype served as the perfect smokescreen for the plight of the woeful Dinos who continued to plod along below the 500 mark in the win/loss column. It has been reported that Coach Darko has offered to pick up the team dinner tab when the boys string together three victories. With the team on a three-game losing streak, the more relevant matter at hand is what Coach Darko is doing to stop the bleeding. Fasting, KETO, Paleo? Hunger, or lack thereof, does seem to be part of the issue as lackluster performances add up. One can only assume that Sensei Masai is gearing up for a splash at the trade deadline in February 2024. Meanwhile, Coach Darko has his hands full.
For more information on any of the artists, works or venues mentioned, or the fate of the Dinos, “Just Google It”.
There you have it sportsfans,

This with Esteban, Vincent, Atlas (and Martín if he comfy) but reader wear the boxers so they HAVE TO wear the thong.
Tumblr media
This idea is so funny and it gave me the opportunity to really show the subtle differences in their personalities! 😆
CW: Suggestive stuff
・*:.。..。.:*・*:.。..。.:*・
Vincent would feel really embarrassed and need a lot of convincing to show you the result.
“Are y-you sure about t-this?” He asked while putting his hand between his legs in a feeble attempt to cover the front, “It-it’s not really k-keeping anything… in…”
︶꒦꒷♡꒷꒦꒷♡꒷꒦︶
Esteban knows he’s good looking and that he can rock feminine clothes, so he would make a little show out of it just for you.
“It does look good on me baby.”Esteban rolled onto his stomach, showing you his perfect ass cheeks, “but don’t you want to see me without it too?~”
︶꒦꒷♡꒷꒦꒷♡꒷꒦︶
Atlas wouldn’t think much of the thong in itself, actually he’d be more focused on the fact that it's a gift from you. Like you want to have matching underwear with him and gave him the cutest pair?! You’re the most thoughtful human on earth!
“May… May I really keep it?” He whispered in awe as he looked down at his new underwear, a slight flush contrasting with his pale skin.
︶꒦꒷♡꒷꒦꒷♡꒷꒦︶
Martin may not be used to wearing panties like this, but he doesn’t mind humoring you.
He let out a deep laugh when seeing your reflections. “I have to say that you have particular tastes darlin’, but I’ll wear them if it makes ya happy.”

Live-blogging/rereading the foxhole court cause why tf not
Tumblr media
This is early 2006, can you IMAGINE the fucking Wattpad fanfics written about Kevin and Andrew?
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Daysten my beloved. Proof he was real.
Alright but I want to elaborate on this. Neil constantly moving, always changing, looking at this one piece of his life that stays constant. “He stayed the same, all of me changed like midnight rain” but make it agonising. Their lives are both so varying but they’re still both in such pain. But then there’s the juxtaposed “Neil knew Kevin’s face as well as he knew his own”
But Neil’s face is always changing.
Tumblr media
Wymack!!!
Neil got the father vibes SO DAMN EARLY “it hurt MORE to see the familiar look—“ Sakavic honey we DESERVED to see Wymack bitchslap Nathan
Tumblr media
The DRAMA that these weeny paragraphs can give us!!!! Kevin discussing other potential recruits, Nicky’s being a media boi on main(HC that Erik encourages it to the EXTREMES after Nicky’s conservative parents da boiiz are in love) again the continued empathise on Andrew watching Kevin and Wymack
Tumblr media
Weirdly juicy for all the wrong reasons. “They don’t understand boundaries” as in all of the Monsters? What fucked up shit has Aaron been doing to Wymack behind Andrew’s back?? Also again the ND/Trauma vibe around all the monsters I remember seeing a post of and a g a i n Wymack seeing clearly the dynamics Kevin and Andrew have over each other. Also.
EIGHT.
AND YES.
Tumblr media
The warrior’s bond <3
Tumblr media
Gonna assume they made the Faustian pact in between Andrew walking off court and Kevin coming back right handed? Considering everything I think on Kevin’s side it was to give Andrew something to build his life around and on Andrew’s side it was protection.
Which is well and good if you don’t think that Kevin’s first priority would’ve been protection from Riko and the Moriyama’s only, and yet Andrew’s protection seems to go a lot further than that (punching Matt in tkm, always being by his side, etc), so, uh. Who knows.
But anyways Exy being so fundamental to it all it’s fair to say that Andrew also chose to come back on if Kevin did.
Also again Nicky’s ASD-ADHD head inability to kinda read between the lines here (fair, given that the lines were blurred+a millimetre thick) adding in to how much he gave up his life for his cousins whom he particularly understand.
Nicky’s weird to me in a way that he feels so much like an outsider in both the Monsters and the Upperclassmen; he’s in both words, he has a “place” for him outside of the Foxes, he’s isolated in the sense that he’s a monster yet not tied to Andrew with a deal and that it’s probably known that he’s there for the cousins only. Wacky meta, great character.

Top five favorite Vinnie moments from the show go!
Tumblr media
Oh boy, okay!
His absolutely mad destroying rage when he found out Sunil is not coming in for the day. I don't remember if I first watched that episode when Sunil was still my favourite or when Vinnie was already that, but either way I loved it. Love me a crazy bitch like that. Me when a small, happy-go-lucky normally treated as harmless guy is angry and everyone else is suddenly scared shitless. Who else goes absolutely berserk cause they can't see their bestie for a while? Only Vinnie, the crazy bitch, love him.
Basically everything he did in "Bake It 'til You Make It" to help said bestie. Like he did so much just to help Sunil and also to commit an elaborate lie but shhhh, it's all for Sunil's sake so that's fine.
Whatever the hell he did at the beggining of "Two Pets for Two Pests", I just love everything about it. Him and Penny Ling both really, but I love how fucking cuddly he was with Penny and all like "Idc where I am as long as I'm with my friends" ^^ just <3333 boy can you love them any more. But then! Oh then, as soon as he found out he was the one chosen (again, along with Penny) he pulled out ol' switcheroo and was like "Aha, fuck you you, bitches I was chosen, I'm better than you!". He's such an asshole, I love him, love the immediate change.
His absolute disdain for Esteban in his episode, I love how lowkey passive-agressive he was cause you never again see him do it with anyone else really and that's a damn shame, I love this kind of Vinnie the most, cause the enitre time he's just "Bitch you so stupid."
Him leading the pets when it comes to that Chinese dragon dance. It was such a small part of this episode yet it was undeniably there, I love how he took charge and was all in all "Don't worry, I've got this. I might not normally take charge, but dancing is the one thing I know how to do so I'll do my best."
Those five favourite moments are really just the moments that came to my mind first that I liked with him, I'm sure if I were replying to it some other day I would choose different moments and/or change their order, but today this is it :3.
Honorary mention to literally every other Vinnie moment, but especially to *takes a deep breath*: when he tried to cheer Penny up and gave her a tissue, he (and Russell and Sunil) being stupid while the girls were in Blythe's room, him being sad when the judges didn't like his dance and then being sad about abandoning Blythe, being an absolute tsundere about Sharukh first being like "meh" but then absolutely fanboying, him being the first one to shake off the sugar rush and be like "Guys wtf we doing", being grumpy about being taken by Alice and being trapped in that aquarium (without water, phew!), being tsudnere when Sunil was scared and hugged him but then immediately jumping on his head when he got scared, basically whenever autotmy happens and he lost his tail with the first one being the best, Penny holding him when they found out Blythe was going to F.U.N., his whole dynamic with Zoe in The Big, Feathered Parade, when he tried to stand up to Wiggles cause they both reptiles, him and Sunil being absolutely unhelpful at first in Blythe's Big Idea and takinf that "bath" together, him not letting others watch Zoe's dog show in France cause holy crap insect channel, whenever his coldbloodness is mentioned, "and don't call me Vincent" and whenever Vincent is mentioned, him being done with Sunil's crush on Delilah he was just so 🙄 about it, Sunil calling him "undersized buddy", basically everything he and Sunil were doing in War of the Weirds especially them dising Uptown City that was so funny I swear (alright it was mostly Sunil but Vinnie was on it too), him laughing at Penny in gorilla costume and right after she was like "Won't I look ridiculous?" he did say she does indeed look ridiculous (sorry but that was so fuuny), his chase with Cashmere and Velvet (why did he shake his ass at them smh), like half of The Very Littlest Pet Shop's plot being revealed to be his imagination and pls he and Sunil were so cute in his imagination hmmmmmmmmm, him writing on his own a forumla of nuclear fission (the smart Vinnie episode we never got :(), his goofy ahh explanation for why Blythe can understan pets and being all :) about it while everyone else is just ???, "Dad!" "Roger!" "Sunil!" "Llama?", him being happy when Blythe called him smart (my poor compliments starved baby :( ), him sitting on top of Sunil's head basically the entire lenght of In the Loop episode and also any other moment when he chils on top of someone's head, making that disgusting dish with flies and being happy when no one else wants it cause that means he can eat it all, Jerry calling him a komodo dragon (another case of being misspecied smh), being obsessed with Royal Henry's, being really really (really) sad when Zoe wanted to leave the pet shop to be with doctor handsomeface, eating gecko nom nom treats cause why this name so cute ugh, being the goodest boy in the world and forgiving Pepper for breaking his lucky rock as well as him being all sad that episode, being so fucking sad about Penny this time leaving the pet shop (except she wasn't really but you know), being happy about being worth 10 000 dolars, giving his favourite pillow to Sunil when he was being all grouchy (he never got that pillow back), being absolutely done with that one male moose's dancing and just being a jerk the entire episode "He's been like this whole day" >:(, catboy Vinnie in season 4 finale and many many more.

𝐿𝑎 𝐺𝑎𝑙𝑒𝑟𝑖𝑒 𝑑𝑢 𝑀𝑎𝑟𝑒́𝑐ℎ𝑎𝑙 𝑆𝑜𝑢𝑙𝑡
… Bonjour. This is Marshal-General Jean-de-Dieu Soult, the Duke of Dalmatia, though I do seem to be incarnated as I was when I served the Emperor Napoleon Bonaparte. My colleague Marshal Lannes has hosted some correspondence for me previously at @armagnac-army, but I have seen fit to begin administering my own communication channel here.
Any rumours pertaining to “Roi Nicolas” or to how I obtained my painting collection are baseless and slanderous.
If you will excuse me, I have paperwork to attend to. Any queries can be addressed to the “ask box”, and my aides-de-camp will redirect them to me - if they are not drunk again.
We're not drunk all the time! —ADC Colonel Saint-Chamans Indeed, just most of the time! Greetings, dear reader, we are Marshal Soult's aides-de-camp. I am Alfred de Lameth, and in this medium I am accompanied by the indefatigable Colonel Alfred de Saint-Chamans, the sensible Major Louis Brun de Villeret, the observant Captain Auguste Petiet and the botanical Lieutenant Colonel Jean-Baptiste Bory de Saint-Vincent. Our text will be marked in these colours, though the colours will vary if we are confined to, ah, "mobile". Do not be too intimidated by our marshal, and do send us inquiries! —ADC Major Lameth

Out Of Character
(( Hi! This is a joke RP ask blog run by @cadmusfly portraying the surly strategist Marshal Jean-de-Dieu Soult (wikipedia link), one of Napoleon's elite military commanders, and his quirky bunch of aides-de-camp!
Jean-de-Dieu Soult is mostly known for being a plunderer of priceless artworks and wanting to rule Portugal under the name "King Nicolas".
However, it's much more likely that he pressured monks into selling him those artworks for cheap while he was invading their country, and that he was trying to divide and conquer Portugal politically rather than actually wanting to be king - which isn't better, in all honesty. But it is fascinating!
This is in no way meant to be a faithful, accurate or analytical depiction of the actual historical figure Jean-de-Dieu Soult or his staff officers, nor is it meant to condone their actions or offer any historical commentary. This is also primarily focusing on his life during the Napoleonic Wars, but if you want to, I dunno, ask about his life as Prime Minister cozying up to the Orleanists or the French Foreign Legion, I will go look at Wikipedia and come back to you!
This version of Soult and his men does have a bit of Worldbuilding Lore about their existence in the afterlife, but it's not necessary to know to interact with him.
So feel free to ask this grumpy asshole or his entourage of weird ADCs anything! And i also accept "magic anons" that mess with him magically, though like with asks I reserve the right to delete any or answer them at my leisure.
I also play a very loud Marshal Jean Lannes at @armagnac-army! ))

(Not me using the initials C. C. because I forgot what name you gave him. I was kinda tempted to say Callum ngl)
👏 Anyways, ask and ye shall receive
Since Pepper is dating two people with accents, I like to imagine she probably has a thing for people with accents. Wait until she figures out everyone technically has an accent (But Clement and Mitzi can practically make her do anything if they use their accents in a certain way. Does that make sense? I hope so :/)
Also do you think Pepper was ever aware of them both crushing on her? Or do you think she was more oblivious to the whole thing
Ayeee what a nice ask to wake up to! ^^
Hmmm I guess Pepper was raised around people with that classic American accent, so that’s what she’d perceive as the “default”. So I can imagine her having something for accents other than that indeed.
She’s a little confused when she’s told she has an accent too, but ah well.
(Also I rewatched the episode after getting your first ask about CC and he- he literally sounds like Esteban. Makes sense, they’re both voiced by Sam Vincent pulling on an accent, but it’s just kinda funny to me lol)
I think Pepper was absolutely crushing on them both, but was clueless to their crushes on her. Cause like, it’s two people she’s falling for, this is so new to her, and what if one or both of them don’t feel the same way? Yet she doesn’t notice their ever so subtle flirting and she’ll deny whatever Zoe says about it.
“Pepper, they literally pinned you to the wall and all 3 of you were blushing about it.”
“Whaaaaatt? Friends can’t be friendly, Zoe?”
“…”
“Why are you giving me that look-“

Drabblecember Day 6: Wrapping Gifts
Word Count: 525 words
Pairing: Kaiyo x Vincent
Tumblr media
Summary: Vincent watches Kaiyo wrap Christmas gifts.
Notes: Brief mention of a scar. Vincent remembers a traumatic event from the past, but it’s not talked about in detail. Also Eugene is Vincent’s personal assistant.
“What are you doing?”
Kaiyo glanced up, elbow deep in a box of bows. She gestured to the surrounding wrapping paper with a jut of the chin.
“You’ll never guess.”
Vincent rolled his eyes.
“I’m aware you’re wrapping gifts. What I meant to ask is ‘why’?”
“I’m trying to get a head start. Last year I waited until Christmas Eve for some godforsaken reason, and nearly fell asleep at Christmas dinner.”
Vincent kneeled down next to her, eyeing what appeared to be a chew toy wrapped in glossy peppermint printed paper.
“For Esteban, I assume?”
Kaiyo put a finger to her lips.
“You better keep it a secret.” She teased.
“I’m sure I can manage. Although I have a feeling the shape will clue him in. My princeling is rather smart.”
She replied with a snort.
He watched her at work, working the paper with careful hands.
“You know, cherie…you could have told me you needed to wrap gifts. Eugene does mine every year, I’m sure he wouldn’t mind wrapping yours as well.”
“Oh yeah? Who wraps his gift then?”
“I find it uneccessary to wrap a Christmas bonus check.”
“Okay, fair,” she sighed, “But you mean to tell me you never wrap any gifts ever? It’s fun! You should try it.”
He was about to protest, to list one of the many other pressing matters he had to attend to, but Kaiyo shoved a box in his hands with an excited smile.
“This one’s for Kenji. Go ahead and choose a wrapping paper. I trust your judgement.”
She returned her attention to starting on another gift while Vincent eyed the almost comically large wrapping paper collection before him. He pulled out a tube of gaudy red paper peppered with reindeer. It wasn’t to his taste, but that probably meant it would be a shoe in with Kenji. He carefully placed the gift over the paper laid out on the floor before the realization hit him. Kaiyo eyed him.
“Are you trying to wrap it like, telepathically or something?” Her cheeky grin switched to an expression of shock.
“…You don’t know how to wrap a present, do you?”
He scoffed.
“Of course I know how. It’s just…been a long time. At least a decade. The last time I did was when I spent Christmas with—“ He froze, hand darting to his arm, absentmindedly rubbing a scar with his thumb.
Slowly, Kaiyo reached out with a hand, head tilted in an attempt to ask for permission. He slipped his hand in hers, clearly not wanting to elaborate on the memory.
“Umm…” she hesistantly gestured to Kenji’s gift. “Maybe you could watch me wrap Kenji’s present, and then try it yourself?”
He swallowed, filing away the memory, then turned to her, grounding himself with the touch of her hands. Warm and familiar. She gave him a gentle smile, bringing him back to the present.
“Yes…” he finally said. “That would be acceptable.”
“Good!” Kaiyo reached over him to slide the reindeer paper toward her, giving a chuckle as she noticed the paper he chose.
“By the way, nice choice of paper.”
“I’d say it was inspired.”

Do you have any fun facts or ideas about your little guys (gender neutrally) that you haven't shared/ properly shared yet?
I’m glad I can share some LOREEEE 😆
・*:.。..。.:*・*:.。..。.:*・
Martin
🪓 I don’t know if it was clear from my drawings in part 1, but Martin is in fact trans! I didn’t mention it explicitly because I didn't find a way to write it in organically. In future works his transness will be mentioned and have more of an importance, but don’t worry guys he won’t be defined by it only!
🪓 When the apocalypse started, he stayed by his mothers side to protect and care for her, just like she did to him when he was small. He really loved his mother dearly. One of his earrings is actually from her!
︶꒦꒷♡꒷꒦꒷♡꒷꒦︶
Atlas
💿 Currently in his timeline, Atlas is the most advanced android on earth and not only because of the coding Hydrotech gave him. When he was saved by the reader, his program changed, making him more independent and capable of human feelings
💿 There’s a childproof setting on Atlas, meaning that his private parts can be retracted inside of him. In his main story, it is still active, since the reader didn’t canonically do anything with him yet so they don’t know about it.
︶꒦꒷♡꒷꒦꒷♡꒷꒦︶
Esteban
📈 He has ✨ daddy issues ✨, but more seriously he really has a bad relationship with him. When Esteban was younger he wanted to prove to his father his worth, but in adulthood he realized that he would never be proud of his accomplishments. There’s still a part of him that yearns for it, but he doesn’t expect it anymore.
📈 I hinted at it in my previous posts, but Esteban really enjoys cooking and he is skilled at it too! He especially loves to be able to make food for his partner! To him, the effort that goes into a meal is the best way to show the extent of his feelings!
︶꒦꒷♡꒷꒦꒷♡꒷꒦︶
Dr. Seraph
🧪 He turned to a life of crime because people in the scientific world didn’t believe that his ideas were possible, so he couldn’t explore his whole potential. Fatalité was the one to approach him and to offer him a job in exchange for limitless funding.
🧪 Vincent even used to have a small crush on Fatalité, since he was the first to believe in him. But soon it died down because of the verbal and physical abuse.

Jazz + Weltmusik befreien und versöhnen
Tumblr media
“The here and now is a prison house. We must strive, in the face of the here and now’s totalising rendering of reality, to think and feel a then and there.” José Esteban Muñoz, Cruising Utopia: The Then and There of Queer Futurity Hingehen! Berauscht sein! Denken, handeln!
– 12. Read the full article
