Up to date with the trends, if you don’t mind!
As opposed to some people, I'm not of the opinion that Dick Grayson is a fashion disaster. I don't imagine I will convince anyone who loves to portray him as the eternal looser... But the thing with fashion is that a lot of it quickly gets dated. Since artists have drawn Dick in contemporary style for decades, it's bound to happen that some outfits get past their best before date.
If we're to put the blame where it belongs, it has to be Greg Land, who drew Dick in a multicoloured polka dot shirt in Nightwing vol 1 # 2. That's the outfit most people reference when they claim that Dick dresses outlandishly. However, in the 90s, polka dot shirts (and long hair on men) were trendy – which is something that we tend to forget some decades later, when another era of fashion surrounds us.
The original Nightwing suit from 1984 also gets a fair amount of flak. Certain artists, like Jim Aparo, drew the collar ridiculously high, unlike how it looked with George Pérez’ art. But on the whole, it's not in a completely different style from other superhero suits that were introduced in the 70s and 80s. High collars and deep v-necks were popular.
Tales of the Teen Titans # 44, Batman vol 1 # 441.
Tyroc (1976); Black Lightning (1977); Dazzler (1980); Jericho (1984).
Gladiator (1977), Black Cat (1979), Atari Force (1982), Mockingbird (1980), Booster Gold (1986).
Fashion at the time was about crossovers and breaking rules, and using fabrics such as rubber and vinyl. And disco... Here are some pictures from the 70s and 80s, to remind ourselves what it looked like at the time.
I guess some people might point the finger at the original Robin suit, too? But, seriously, it's a 1940s child superhero costume, designed at a time when the printing process favoured bright primary colours. (Besides, in a fair number of versions, Bruce is the one who designed the Robin suit. Now, if we want to talk ridiculous – take a look at Bob Kane's original sketch of the Bat-Man.)
Without further ado. Let's have a look at some of Dick's outfits over the years, and see what was considered stylish at the time, shall we.
Dick in civilan garbs in the 1940s and 1950s. The boy's fashion at the time included knitted pullovers and sweaters which were also worn over shirt and tie. Bright solid or patterned sportcoats were worn with dress-shirt and necktie or bowtie. (Knickers, that is short trousers, were, by the way, children's fashion in the 1940s.)
Pictures are fashion illustrations from the 40s and 50s and from Batman # 13 (1942). Star Spangled Comics # 65 (1947), # 75 (1947), # 98 (1949), # 111 (1950).
College teenager Dick in the 1970s dressed in sweaters, vests, long collared shirts. His hair was side-parted. And, you guessed it – vests, long collared shirts and turtleneck sweaters were essential fashion items of the 1970s. Dick-pics from: Batman # 248 (1973). Batman Family # 8 (1976). Detective Comics # 483 (1979). Detective Comics # 495 (1980).
Dick in a green three piece suit in New Teen Titans Vol 1 # 26 (1982). Picture in Sears Fashion Catalogue 1981. 1980s vintage tweed suit.
Leather jacket, t-shirts and sweaters and jeans were trendy in the 1980s. In Tales of the teen titans 43 (1984), Dick wears jeans and an expensive leather jacket.
"That" outfit in Nightwing vol 1 # 2 (1995). "Seinfeld" from 1991.
Overalls were huge in the 1990s, even when you weren't custom building your own car. Nightwing vol 2 # 16 (1998), and fashion photos from the 1990s.
In the early 2000s, casual clothing was a big trend. Rugby shirts was a common look, and the leather jacket was still popular. Batman: Gotham Knights # 21 (2001), # 45 (2003), Nightwing vol 2 # 49 (2000), #77 (2003), # 80 (2003).
In the mid-2000s, some trendy things were: Casual, fitted shirt. Casual blazer. Cardigan. V-neck t-shirt. Trucker hat. Tank top. Nightwing vol 2 # 133 (2007), # 141 and # 144 (2008). Fashion photos from 2008, design Diesel, Tony Melillo.
In The New 52 and Rebirth, Dick has mostly dressed casually (unless it's for a funeral, of course). Jeans, t-shirts, shirt without tie, sweaters, hoodie, parka, blazer or leather jacket. Often layer on layer - sweater over shirt, shirt on top of t-shirt... The 2010s wasn't long ago, and it's not easy to sort through fashion shows and micro-trends and see a bigger picture just yet... But a few of the things that were trendy at least at some time during the 2010s were: the colour grey; one-button suits and blazers; striped sweater; checkered shirt; fitted leather jackets; parka; pastel colours; angular v-neck.
Nightwing vol 3 # 5 (2012), # 6 (2012), # 10 (2012), # 17 (2013), # 27 (2014). Nightwing vol 4 # 10 (2017), # 15 (2017). Assorted fashion photos from 2012–2017.
Today it's 2020, and when it comes to men's hairstyles, crew cut is popular. Nightwing vol 4 # 63, and photo from TheTrendSpotter's post 40 Best Short Hairstyles for Men in 2020.
And hey, superhero apparel were on the catwalk in the 2010s, too. How more fashion forward can Dick Grayson become...? Misel Saban, June 27, 2014 (Batman) and Sarah Dos Santos, December 16, 2013 (Superman); Kyle Towers, February 2, 2013 (Spiderman).
However, I don't see Dick (written) as interested in keeping up with the fashion. But he did live his first years in a small trailer. And since then, he's been accustomed to a life where you never know when your home is going to be obliterated, or your foster father will kick you out. Or when you have to rush away to follow a lead in another city or save the world somewhere. Or the next time you'll be shot and forget that you have a flat to live in... He’s bound to have learned not to have an excessive amount of clothes.
When he does need to buy something, because his last outfit went up in smoke or something, he'll simply pick from what's in the front inside the shops. Hence, he'll often be dressed up-to-date. New Titans # 76, New Titans # 86, Nightwing vol 2 # 89, Nightwing vol 2 # 20, Nigtwing vol 3 # 19, Nightwing vol 4 # 50 , Robin Year One # 3.
Top pictures from: Batman # 237 (1971), New Teen Titans # 16 (1982), Nightwing vol 2 # 129 (2007), Nightwing vol 4 # 10 (2016).

ABout: Helmut Lang
The Beginning.
Helmut Lang is credited with being one of the first designers to introduce utilitarian minimalism on the runway in the 1980s. Lang, who was born in Austria and raised in Vienna, began his career as an aspiring artist and trade student before launching his first made-to-measure studio in 1977 and a boutique in 1979 in Vienna, where he designed T-shirts and jackets.
After gaining a following in Austria, he displayed his work as an exhibition titled "l'Apocalypse Joyeuse" at the Centre Pompidou in 1986. In the same year, he then created and established his label "Helmut Lang" in Paris.
The Label & Designs
Because of his simple yet detailed designs on essential clothing, Lang's fashion brand has grown in popularity since his first collection. The Men's and Women's collections, both of which were shown on the same runway, were the label's staple. Furthermore, between 1990 and 2000, the Helmut Lang brand expanded to include underwear, jeans, footwear/accessories, and fragrances.
Lang elevated street wear to high fashion through his namesake line. He was the first to create "designer denim," as well as garments made from bulletproof vests and military bomber jackets made out of high technical fabrics. Lang was also known for utilising parachutes and bondage gear-inspired straps and harnesses to achieve an edgy image that was sensual enough without exposing skin. In his garments, he uses a variety of fabrics, including silk, nylon, metallic textiles, coloured leathers, holographic fabrics, thermal fabrics, latex-bounded lace, and much more.
After relocating to New York in 1998, the brand gained even more international recognition in the fashion world. Helmut Lang is known for numerous things, including being the first in the fashion industry to place advertisements on NYC taxicabs, hosting the first online fashion show, opening a concept store, and even moving New York Fashion Week ahead of the other European shows.
Partnership with Prada
Prada, a Milan-based fashion house, bought 51 percent of Lang's company in 1999, and the remaining 49 percent in 2004, just before Helmut Lang stood down from his namesake label.
However, Lang's aesthetic vision and the Prada Group's economic ambitions clashed as a result of this multi-brand approach. Prada was supposed to give the label financial security while sustaining the company's and designer's aesthetic progress, according to Lang's understanding. Prada Group, on the other hand, believes that Lang's independence for the brand will delay business decisions.
Prada later chose to close the license company that produced the best-selling Helmut Lang Jeans, which were sold in over 700 stores across the world. Helmut Lang was tasked with creating a "it" bag, that clearly did not come through. Sales of the brand dropped from over $100 million in 1999 to $37 million in 2003. Lang retired from the fashion scene in 2005.
What's Next?
Helmut Lang has been designed by a number of other designers since Lang's retirement from the business. Michael and Nicole Colovos were named the brand's creative directors in May 2006. They re-launched the Helmut Lang website with a contemporary sportswear collection for S/S 2007. In 2017, Helmut Lang launched 'The Helmut Lang Re-Edition,' with Isabella Burley, editor of Dazed & Confused magazine, as editor-in-residence.
On the other side, Helmut Lang has been concentrating on his work as a fine artist. Jenny Holzer and Louise Bourgeois are among the artists with whom Lang has collaborated. Lang's most recent paintings focus on abstract sculptural human body forms. On the other side, Helmut Lang has been concentrating on his work as a fine artist. Rey was ready.
She was dressed in jeans, high-heeled boots, and a flowing top that exposed most of her back. It was sexy enough for a concert, comfortable enough to wear all night, and most importantly, perfect for her inevitable confrontation with Ben Solo. Her hair was swept up in a half-ponytail and she had picked out a pair of silver pendant earrings for the occasion.
Her makeup was minimal in that it consisted mostly of nude tones, but she had taken more care than usual in applying it—she looked much better than she did during her daily bouts of tourism. A small bag completed her ensemble, containing the essentials: her wallet, phone, and car keys.
The concert venue was on the outskirts of the city, nestled between a massive parking garage, a few fast food restaurants, the rear end of a warehouse, and a few motels. A mediocre scene at best. Bozeman was not a city known for its animated nightlife: it was frequented by the tourists going or coming from Yellowstone and its inhabitants lived almost exclusively off of this influx of temporary visitors. This wasn’t the kind of place where tourists stayed for more than a night, not that many tourists would attend a rock concert in the first place.
Yet the parking was already full of vehicles, their plates registered in Wyoming, Montana and Idaho. Tonight was going to be packed—a congregation of neighbors, friends, and visitors from the surrounding towns and ranches.
The entrance was a free-for-all, alcohol flowed freely as empty bottles of beer and stray cigarettes littered already the cluttered ground.
Rey took BB8 out for one more walk before locking her in the car with the window rolled down, making sure she had plenty of water and dog treats. She didn’t want to attract any more attention to her already infamous eyesore from 1977, so she had parked a little further away, near a McDonald's, where she had also spotted a familiar pickup truck. It featured a “Kylo REN” bumper sticker, the logo not unlike one of the posters near the entrance of the concert hall.
She hesitated. Should it go through the main entrance? He had mentioned an all-access backstage once; could she possibly come in through the back?
When in doubt, text him.
I’m here. Should I buy a ticket or do you have the backstage pass you offered?
No response.
Shit.
He was probably busy.
She made her way behind the building and finally recognized one of the musicians (Skylar?) who was leaning against a wall, cigarette in hand. She approached him with her best smile.
“Hi, I 'm Rey, you know, a friend of Ben...uh...Kylo Ren’s. he told me something about a backstage pass, can I come in?”
Upon closer inspection, she noticed his broad shoulders, immaculately shaved head, and intricately tattooed neck and forearms. He deigned not to respond immediately. He lowered the eyes and practically leered at Rey from top to bottom, pausing to take a long drag of his cigarette before blowing the smoke in her face.
“He didn't say anything to me. Nice try. Go through the front and pay the price.”
Rey winced. Something about this guy made her skin crawl, she could see in his eyes that this was all an act.
“Is Syed Ren is there? Can I talk to her?”
“What Syed is up to is none of your business.”
Okay...why was he acting like such a guard dog?
“Well,” she insisted, “in that case, maybe you can inform Kylo or Syed, wherever they are, that Rey is out here waiting for them?”
The musician took a step forward and bent slightly to reach Rey’s height, forcing her to reflexively take a step back. He was much taller than her. Classic intimidation technique; it discouraged escalation without attracting attention.
“Listen up, kid, I dunno who you think you are, but nobody’s gonna bother Kylo Ren. Wait your turn and pay your dues or get the hell out.”
Rey gritted her teeth. Her smile was acerbic. “Perfect. Let's do that, then.”
Idiot! She would’ve appreciated if Kylo and Syed had told her about Skylar’s garbage personality when she was still going back and forth about the whole maybe-I-should-follow-you-on-tour-and -drop-by-now-and-then idea. She was hoping she could be more forgiving to Kylo, but of course that proved to be useless. Now she only hoped he would break a leg tonight—literally. Fuck him and his rockstar life. Maybe he would draw the short straw one day and end up cleaning other people’s messes for a change. Maybe that would take him off of his grand fucking pedestal.
Eventually, with no other option (as evidenced by her very silent phone) Rey skirted back around the edge of the building to the entrance. She paid for a ticket—a paltry 19 dollars—and stepped inside.
The room was overheated, and already well full. Rey elbowed her way to the front as much as possible, getting as close as she could to the stage. Suddenly, she felt a hand press against her buttocks as she navigated through the crowd.
Hell, someone was going to pay very dearly for this.
She was spun around, swiftly grabbing a wrist while her fingers formed a vice-like grip around it. At the end of said wrist was a bearded man in a ridiculous hat, with an equally ridiculous expression on his face. He had expected, no doubt, to find her embarrassed and intimidated.
“Whose hand is this?” She yelled as loudly as she could, “because it just happened to grab my buttocks out of nowhere,” she spat acidly.
The bearded man pulled his hand and tried to flee, but Rey held firmly. She looked him right in the eyes.
“Say, haven't you misplaced something?”
“Uh...hey...” mumbled the guy, visibly panicking now. Another girl jumped in to help her, grabbing the man’s shoulders to shove him off to the side.
“Get lost, there’s no room for pervs here!”
Soon, a group formed around them to collectively push the man out of the door. Rey’s heartbeat soared and suddenly she felt like her confidence was limitless. Yes, by the end of the concert, she would get ahold of Kylo and Syed—Skylar or no Skylar—to hell with waiting outside all night!
In a matter of minutes the lights went out. Amid the whistles and the cheers of the audience, Rey felt her heart skip a beat in recognizing the unmistakable silhouette of Ben Solo on the stage. He was all black again: black Doc Martens, black jeans, and a plain black crew neck t-shirt. Although his shirt was simple, it was very fitted, revealing the shape of his muscular chest and broad shoulders. She remembered touching that chest, tracing the outline of those hard planes with one hand while using the other to dip below the waistband of those jeans.
Suddenly she felt unbearably hot.
But that was just because of how crowded it was. Right?
Somehow, there were only five people on stage. She looked for Syed in vain, her eyes widening with realization that the guitarist wasn’t there at all. What did that imply? Truth be told, she was a little disappointed; she’d had the every intention to deal with Syed too. It was strange how Rey felt like a target in what seemed to be a folie à deux between Syed and Kylo. There was no use in confronting one of them if the other got away.
She was surprised to find herself swaying to the rhythm of the music, whistling and clapping along with the audience. It must have been the music itself, a paradoxically beautiful cacophony that resonated with the rage she had buried inside and fit perfectly with the mood of the evening.
Kylo Ren felt it too. His voice was hoarser from the screaming, his breath more uneven, his stage presence even wilder than the last concert in Denver. Rey could see in the urgency of his body language a fury that seemed to spill out of him and into the microphone. It was almost a display of violence. Her own anger paled in comparison to his, the vast tidal wave of emotion that emanated from his being.
The atmosphere was electric, the crowd unhinged. Rey knew the lyrics by heart, after a thousand kilometers worth of repetition, but she was still shocked to find herself belting the chorus at the top of her lungs with the rest. She admittedly knew nothing of the history of Kylo Ren, she didn’t know where she would find the story of his life (on the walls of some gallery?) or where they would end this unexpected journey. But at least she had found a new favorite band, and their familiar melodies had become her anthem—the anthem of her own journey. She would never forget this vintage car, or these desert roads which wound past rugged mountains, or the mesmerizing way Kylo’s hair fell to his shoulders. The dense, silken ebony that framed his face in wild strands that stuck against his forehead when he was on stage.
The music stopped, the room became dark. Kylo Ren's voice rose in silence:
“This next song is about how we deal with the unexpected, inspired by someone who turned my life upside down. This is my song for her, "First Rain".
Rey felt herself blush to the roots of the hair. Was it a song for her?
Maybe it was for Syed? He hadn't specified anything, was it just her imagination? Did he know? Was she being watched?
Suddenly she found herself unable to move a muscle, frozen alone amidst a sea of nameless faces. Their eyes watched Kylo Ren intently, but him—he was looking directly at her. His gaze pierced through the crowd, unmistakable. He had written it for her. She immediately felt the urge to run, far, far away. But looking into his eyes, she found herself incapable of it.
His gaze held her captive. Dark and hypnotically odd, like his hair, like his clothes—like everything that was ever made in his image. His face was too long and his earlobes too detached, a round sliver of flesh peeking out from underneath of a curtain of black on each side of his face. She bet they were sensitive enough that if she pulled on them he would—
What on earth was happening to her? Was she really going to melt like a lovesick teenager for the first guy with a guitar who bothered to write a song for her? He didn’t even have a guitar.
But he sang words of love.
Better yet, he sang of other things: of a meeting that was more of a collision, of confrontation, of misunderstandings, of sharing secrets, of lies, so many lies...it was all there.
It was all written for her.
She wanted to put her own feelings into words, but her mouth was dry. Her lower half betrayed her desires as her heart hammered even harder. What was he trying to tell her, and, more importantly, what was she going to say in response?
When the music stopped the audience broke out in cheers, but Rey was struggling to breathe. He had sung the entire song while looking right into the eyes, so much so that the crowd around her had receded somewhat, providing them the semblance of privacy.
It was there that she found herself at the center of a circle of people, in the middle of Bozeman, Montana, and in some sense, at the center of the universe.
Then Kylo Ren broke the silence once more as the deafening roar of rock resumed, jolting the audience awake, and Rey was suddenly anonymous again, drowned by a sea of people once more.
She could barely hear the rest of the concert. She was furious with herself for falling into a trap as sickeningly cliche as a song in her name. It was unbearably romantic and...and irresistible.
She couldn't go on.
She left the room, feeling feverish, taking longer and longer strides until she made it to her car, where she collapsed onto the front seat with heaving breaths.
BB8 pawed at her and Rey let the dog bounce excitedly around the car.
She would wait here until the end of the concert, until Kylo and Syed were available. From where she was sitting she could see Kylo Ren’s truck, and she could just make out the entrance to the concert hall. They would be impossible to miss.
Rey was shaken, emotionally drained, even. That song had almost certainly lasted a few minutes, but it had seemed as though he had sung for hours.
Something had happened then, while his eyes held hers as his voice wrapped around her whole being. The room had suddenly felt deserted, like they were alone in the world. It had been so unexpectedly and deeply erotic that she had lost the notion of time.
She didn't know if she wanted to laugh or sob. Her skin felt tingly, crying out to be touched. She had never smoked in her life but she wanted a cigarette.
She grabbed the sweater she had left on the passenger seat, and buried her face in it before unleashing a scream that emptied out her entire lungs—a visceral cry of anger, of frustration and of relief, simultaneously primal and liberating.
Finally she felt better, leaning her head back again before dozing off.
It was the movement around her that drew her out of drowsiness. The chaotic din of the audience leaving the venue, the roar of engines and bursts of random conversation.
How long had she slept? The concert was over, the people were leaving the premises. Soon she was surrounded only by the vehicles of the tech crew, and those of the Knights of Ren. She recognized the group, two women and two men, walking across the lot.
Rey got out of her car and leaned against the door, ankles crossed, as she scrutinized the darkness. Where was Kylo Ren? He better be out here.
A car approached. A dark grey SUV, which parked near the pickup.
Rey’s heart began to pound in her chest when she recognized the silhouette in the driver’s seat—a leather-clad woman with a mohawk.
She shuddered. If Syed was there, Kylo would show up soon. Rey was going to call out to her when something stopped her in her tracks.
Syed was holding a knife.
Rey held both hands over her mouth to stifle the cry that threaten to escape her throat and give away her location as she slid down into a crouched position, praying she could just disappear. Syed slipped past the SUV and stopped in front of the black pickup. With one fluid motion, she slashed the rear-left tire, her fist clenching tightly around the hilt of the blade.
Then she directed her attention to the rear-right tire, until she had methodically slashed all of them. BB8 began baring her teeth and growling, but Rey coaxed her to be quiet.
This was highly unusual. Weren't Syed and Kylo supposed to be accomplices in some crazy scheme? Guided by intuition, Rey bent as far as she could in the direction of the Falcon’s boot, taking only a few moments to find what she needed.
Then she hushed BB8 again, who lay unhappily on the back seat, and silent as a shadow, she crossed the road in the direction of the concert hall.

The youth in our networks are now, like never before, fighting genuine difficulties.
It is TSF 's feeling that sports and structured athletic ventures have structure and goals for young people that are essential to the mental and physical change of events. Shockingly, because of the absence of subsidization, many schools need to scale back or even destroy sports / athletic ventures (as is widely said). Projects that generate confidence and certainty, A portion of the objections that the returns from the opportunities of TSF and TSE would support are the cultivation of strong and stable propensities and the formation of initiative and involvement abilities. Mars with Chiron and Pluto with The Sun, July 2020 ~ Miracles and Magnificence
Mars with Chiron and Pluto with The Sun, July 2020 ~ Miracles and Magnificence
By Tania Gabrielle
Another spectacular star code is unfolding this week!
We are being showered with healing and confidence boosting heavenly alignments during this tremendous time of changes.
July’s magnificent 11 Universal Month continues with two powerful transits:
Mars conjunct Chiron
Sun opposite Pluto
Mars conjuncts Chiron in Aries on July 14.
Chiron moved into Aries in 2018 and will be moving through the first sign until 2025 – an important event in itself, since Chiron was not discovered until after it moved into Taurus in November, 1977.
Mars is the RULER of Aries.
Mars will be traveling through Aries for six months (due to a retrograde that begins on 9.9.) – so this conjunction with Chiron is a major healing moment on Mars’ journey.
Chiron, Sacred Healer, is a calming influence on Mars’ more propulsive and aggressive energy.
With this conjunction you feel like you can accomplish anything!
Then… we have the other powerful meetup with our star, the Sun, and Pluto.
The Sun was merged with Pluto on January 12, 2020 for the big stellium in Capricorn (Saturn/Pluto/Sun/Mercury conjunction).
This 500-year event – Saturn and Pluto had not met up in Capricorn since Martin Luther broke away from the Catholic Church 500 years ago – set the stage for the Big Shift in play now.
On July 15 Sun moves 180° to face Pluto in an opposition.
Pluto Purges. The Sun Shines.
We are shining the light on what is being purged.
Everything that is appearing in our conscious experience is guaranteed to faciliatate the grand awakening.
Waking from a long slumber needs to be integrated on many levels.
See everything you are experiencing now as an opportunity!
So much to share with you…
Love and Blessings,
Tania Gabrielle

10 Well-liked Music Genres You’ve Never Heard Of
But, as our chat reveals, the discordant story doesn't end there: the naturally talented Neelix attended his first doof little more than a decade in the past, confesses to be in poor health at ease in the studio, and plans to supply pop music within the close to future. The start of EDM can from the disco style, heavily popular in the late 1970's. Disco music aimed to maneuver crowds of individuals on the dancefloor, using drum machines and electronic devices to create synthesized rhythms. Standard disco music that helped to create the EDM scene included Donna Summer time's 1977 synthesized disco hit I Really feel Love ," which was written by Pete Bellotte and Giorgio Moroder, who would later collaborate with Daft Punk; and the 1974 hit Rock Your Child ," by George McCrae, which used a drum machine and Roland rhythm machine.
Bambuco, Pasillo and Vals, three of the foremost rhythms of a genre of music usually performed in a duet with a guitar or mandolin and a smaller, 12-string guitar-like instrument known as a tiple. The tiple is an official national instrument of Colombia, though its use has seen a big decline in latest many years. Pop comes from the word "Well-liked". It is the development that a lot of the common folks are following. The purpose of the music is to enchantment to a common viewers, moderately than to a selected sub-tradition or ideology. Katy Perry was topping on Pop music charts just a few months again, when all of a sudden Gangnam Type came to conquer our playlists. In Pop music, the inventive and technical aspects are given lesser attention than the "poppy" really feel. - Rock genre is gradually decreases in recognition through years, by including much less songs and new genres are emerging. I don't pretend to know the solutions, nevertheless it's arduous to consider listening to New World Symphony or Michael Stanly Band's "Candy Jane" would not elicit some of the identical effects that it has on me. Why? Is my musical receptors more or less heightened , different, or just another huge difficult human spirit that defies rationalization. The IFPI (International Federation of Phonographic Industries) recently took a survey of 19,000 shoppers around the planet to see what kinds of music had been the most popular.
Ever since the Mozart Effect" increase from the 1990s, individuals have related listening to classical music with increased intelligence. Whether or not the findings of the unique Mozart Effect study hold are a matter of appreciable debate What's plain is that this one examine sparked countless extra research intended to understand the interplay between music and the human brain. As if it nonetheless bears mentioning, EDM and the rest of dance music made using electronic devices are not the identical factor. The etymology of the time period "EDM" is not absolutely recognized, however in response to critic Joshua Glazer (who can also be a THUMP contributor) writing in Cuepoint, it is a " company term used to envelope disparate sounds into one easy-to-market division" that was coined in 1985 within the US, but did not achieve notoriety till the late 2000s. The 90s had been rife with musician-coined genres. Riot grrrl was the name of a 1991 fanzine put together by four of that music's key players: Allison Wolfe and Molly Neuman of Bratmobile; Kathleen Hanna and Tobi Vail of Bikini Kill. Illbient was coined in 1994 by DJ Olive, of the trio We, to explain a multimedia presentation to a journalist in Brooklyn. "Some older man who mentioned he was a journalist requested me if this was ambient music," Olive says, "and I blurted out as a joke, 'Nope, this is illbient.' We all had fun about it." And in 1996, producers Ed Rush and Trace of the No U Turn label minted the phrase techstep to describe their blaring, dense, hard-as-hell style of drum and bass. What distinguishes these sounds and scenes from lengthy-standing genres like techno or drum & bass is they not hold to the notion of center and periphery. They are not shaped from the highest down by a handful of rich, influential cities who transmit the culture while everyone else is relegated to receiving it. If anything, similar membership scenes in places like London and Berlin wish to their Latin American counterparts for inspiration. From this new ecosystem, an unbiased network of artists has begun to take form, and whereas London and Berlin are welcome to join the dialogue, they're definitely not dominating the conversation. For me personally, before I switched to doing EDM, I was a Rock Musician who used to play the Lead Guitar. I really miss those glorious days of Rock and Metallic music box russia truthfully. Another difference between Arduous Rock and heavy Metallic is the power involved in taking part in these two music genres. Initially of the millennium, festivals have been the place you'd hear guitar bands; on Radio 1, guitar music was largely relegated to the Night Session However, in 2016, radio playlists are bursting with guitar music and festivals have shifted their focus. None extra so than V pageant, whose top names this yr are Justin Bieber, Rihanna, David Guetta and Sia.

Before I do something that's really nervous to me, I wish to take heed to my music to calm me down, however not too much. I am unable to stand slow music as a result of it makes me actually sleepy and it will get annoying. I might listen to anything, however nation is essentially the most annoying of all for me. I just need to get their cowboy hats and stomp all over them.If you happen to performed someone High Horse," it might take a few guesses earlier than they recognized it as a rustic song. That 4-to-the-ground beat with the funky, Nile Rodgers guitar, that popping bass—none of these are parts of country that must be on a hit from one of the genre's brightest stars. But the elements are all there: the center-American lyrical imagery and references, the light slide guitar solo, the banjo, the background acoustic strings. It is like a winking scrambling of genres that creates a sound entirely Musgraves' own. Some often compare her to Taylor Swift as a rustic artist with main crossover potential. But much less a brand than her uber-well-known counterpart, Musgraves has more in frequent with the likes of Sturgill Simpson or Chris Stapleton, who are crossing over primarily based on musical potential alone.

Songs in the Key of Life
This is an entry I posted yesterday on Facebook but was quickly told that it was entirely too long for Facebook. However it was suggested that I write a blog instead so … here goes we’ll see how this goes… please read and enjoy …
"Songs in the Key of Life" is the eighteenth album by American recording artist Stevie Wonder, released on September 28, 1976, by Motown Records, through its division Tamla Records. It was the culmination of his "classic period" albums. An ambitious double LP that included a four-song bonus EP, the album became the best-selling and most critically acclaimed album of Wonder's career. In 2003, it was ranked number 57 on Rolling Stone magazine's list of the 500 greatest albums of all time. In 2005, it was inducted into the National Recording Registry by the Library of Congress, which deemed it "culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant."
By 1976, Stevie Wonder had become one of the most popular figures in R&B and pop music, not only in the U.S., but worldwide. Within a short space of time, the albums Talking Book, Innervisions and Fulfillingness' First Finale were all back-to-back top five successes, with the latter two winning Grammy Award for Album of the Year, in 1974 and 1975, respectively. By the end of 1975, Wonder became serious about quitting the music industry and emigrating to Ghana to work with handicapped children. He had expressed his anger with the way that the U.S. government was running the country. A farewell concert was being considered as the best way to bring down the curtain on his career. Wonder changed his decision, when he signed a new contract with Motown on August 5, 1975, thinking he was better off making the most of his career. At the time, rivals such as Arista and Epic were also interested in him. The contract was laid out as a seven-year, seven LP, $37 million deal ($172,277,675 in today's money) and gave him full artistic control, making this the largest deal made with a recording star up to that point. Almost at the beginning Wonder took a year off from the music market, with a project for a double album to be released in 1976. There was huge anticipation for the new album which was initially scheduled for release around October 1975. It was delayed on short notice when Wonder felt that further remixing was essential. According to Wonder, the marketing campaign at Motown decided to take advantage of the delay by producing "We're almost finished" T-shirts. Work on the new album continued into early 1976. A name was finally chosen for the album: Songs in the Key of Life. The title would represent the formula of a complex "key of life" and the proposals for indefinite success. The album was released on September 28, 1976, after a two-year wait as a double LP album with a four-track seven-inch EP titled A Something's Extra ("Saturn", "Ebony Eyes", "All Day Sucker" and "Easy Goin' Evening (My Mama's Call)") and a 24-page lyric and credit booklet. A total of 130 people worked on the album, but Wonder's preeminence during the album was evident. Among the people present during the sessions, there were legendary figures of R&B, soul and jazz music – Herbie Hancock played Fender Rhodes on "As", George Benson played electric guitar on "Another Star", and Minnie Riperton and Deniece Williams added backing vocals on "Ordinary Pain". Mike Sembello was a prominent personality throughout the album, playing guitar on several tracks and also co-writing "Saturn" with Wonder. Some of the most socially conscious songs of the album were actually written by Wonder with other people – these included "Village Ghetto Land" and "Black Man" (co-written with Gary Byrd) and "Have a Talk with God" (co-written by Calvin Hardaway). Nathan Watts, Wonder's newest bass player at the time, originally recorded a bass track for "Isn't She Lovely" that Wonder replaced with his own keyboard bass for the final version. The same guide-track method was employed for "Knocks Me Off My Feet". At the time of release, reporters and music critics, and everyone who had worked on the album, traveled to Long View Farm, a recording studio in Massachusetts for a press preview of the album. Everybody received autographed copies of the album and Wonder gave interviews. Critical reception was positive. The album was viewed as a guided tour through a wide range of musical styles and the life and feelings of the artist. It included recollections of childhood, of first love and lost love. It contained songs about faith and love among all peoples and songs about social justice for the poor and downtrodden. On February 19, 1977, Stevie was nominated for seven Grammy Awards, including Album of the Year, an award that he had already won twice, in 1974 and 1975, for Innervisions and Fulfillingness’ First Finale. Since 1973, Stevie’s presence at the Grammy ceremonies had been consistent – he attended most of the ceremonies and also used to perform on stage. But in 1976, he did not attend as he was not nominated for any awards (as he had not released any new material during the past year). Paul Simon, who received the Grammy for Album of the Year in that occasion (for Still Crazy After All These Years) jokingly thanked Stevie “for not releasing an album” that year. A year after, Wonder was nominated for Songs in the Key of Life in that same category, and was widely favored by many critics to take the award. The other nominees were Breezin’ by George Benson, Chicago X by Chicago, Silk Degrees by Boz Scaggs, and the other favorite, Peter Frampton’s Frampton Comes Alive!, which was also a huge critical and commercial success. Wonder was again absent from the ceremony, as he had developed an interest in visiting Africa. In February he traveled to Nigeria for two weeks, primarily to explore his musical heritage, as he put it. A satellite hook-up was arranged so that Stevie could be awarded his Grammys from across the sea. Bette Midler announced the results during the ceremony, and the audience was only able to see Wonder at a phone smiling and giving thanks. The video signal was poor and the audio inaudible. Andy Williams went on to make a public blunder when he asked the blind-since-birth Wonder, “Stevie, can you see us?” In all, Wonder won four out of seven nominations at the Grammys: Album of the Year, Best Male Pop Vocal Performance, Best Male R&B Vocal Performance and Producer of the Year. Over time, the album became a standard, and it is considered Wonder's signature album. "Of all the albums," he told Q magazine (April 1995 issue), "Songs in the Key of Life I'm most happy about. Just the time, being alive then. To be a father and then… letting go and letting God give me the energy and strength I needed." Songs in the Key of Life is often cited as one of the greatest albums in popular music history. It was voted as the best album of the year in The Village Voice's annual Pazz & Jop critics poll; in 2001 the TV network VH1 named it the seventh greatest album of all time; in 2003, the album was ranked number 57 on Rolling Stone Magazine's list of the 500 greatest albums of all time. Many musicians have also remarked on the quality of the album and its influence on their own work. For example, Elton John said, in his notes for Wonder on the 2003 Rolling Stone's list of "The Immortals – The Greatest Artists of All Time" (in which Stevie Wonder was ranked number 15): "Let me put it this way: wherever I go in the world, I always take a copy of Songs in the Key of Life. For me, it's the best album ever made, and I'm always left in awe after I listen to it." In an interview with Ebony magazine, Michael Jackson called Songs in the Key of Life his favorite Stevie Wonder album. George Michael cited the album as his favorite of all time and with Mary J. Blige covered "As" for a 1999 hit single. Michael performed "Love's in Need of Love Today" on his Faith tour in 1988, and released it as a B-side to "Father Figure". He also performed "Village Ghetto Land" at the Nelson Mandela 70th Birthday Tribute in 1988. He later covered "Pastime Paradise" and "Knocks Me Off My Feet" in his 1991 Cover to Cover tour. R&B singers in particular have praised the album – Prince called it the best album ever recorded, Mariah Carey generally names the album as one of her favorites, and Whitney Houston also remarked on the influence of Songs in the Key of Life on her singing. (During the photoshoot for her Whitney: The Greatest Hits, as seen on its respective home video, the album was played throughout the photo sessions, at Houston’s request.) The album's importance has even been recognized by heavy metal musicians, with singer Phil Anselmo describing a live performance of Songs in the Key of Life as "a living, breathing miracle". The album’s tracks have provided numerous samples for rap and hip-hop artists; for example, "Pastime Paradise", which itself drew on the first eight notes and four chords of J.S. Bach's Prelude No. 2 in C minor, was reworked by Coolio as "Gangsta's Paradise". In 1995, smooth jazz artist Najee recorded a cover album titled Najee Plays Songs from the Key of Life, which is based entirely on Wonder's album. In 1999, Will Smith used "I Wish" as the base for his US number-one single "Wild Wild West". The song repeated the main melody of "I Wish" as a riff and some lyrics re-formed. In April 2008, the album was voted the "Top Album of All Time" by the Yahoo! Music Playlist Blog, using a formula that combined four parameters – "Album Staying Power Value + Sales Value + Critical Rating Value + Grammy Award Value". In December 2013, Wonder did a live concert performance of the entire Songs in the Key of Life album at the Nokia Theater in Los Angeles. The event was his 18th annual House Full of Toys Benefit Concert, and featured some of the original singers and musicians from the 1976 double-album as well as several from the contemporary scene. In November 2014, Stevie began performing the entire album in a series of concert dates in the U.S. and Canada. The start of the tour coincided with the 38th anniversary of the release of Songs in the Key of Life. Highly anticipated at the time, the album surpassed all commercial expectations. It debuted at number 1 on the Billboard Pop Albums Chart on October 8, 1976, becoming only the third album in history to achieve that feat and the first by an American artist (after British singer/composer Elton John's albums Captain Fantastic and the Brown Dirt Cowboy and Rock of the Westies, both in 1975). In Canada, the album achieved the same feat, entering at number one on the RPM national albums chart on October 16. Songs in the Key of Life spent thirteen consecutive weeks at number one in the U.S., and 11 during 1976. It was the album with the most weeks at number one during the year. In those eleven weeks, Songs in the Key of Life managed to block four other albums from reaching the top – in order, Boz Scaggs’s Silk Degrees, Earth, Wind & Fire's Spirit, Led Zeppelin's soundtrack for The Song Remains the Same and Rod Stewart's A Night on the Town. On January 15, 1977, the album finally dropped to number two behind Eagles' Hotel California and the following week it fell to number four. On January 29 it returned to the top for a fourteenth and final week. The album then began its final fall. It spent a total of 35 weeks inside the top ten and 80 weeks on the Billboard albums chart. Songs in the Key of Life also saw longevity at number one on the Billboard R&B/Black Albums chart, spending 20 non-consecutive weeks there. In all, Songs in the Key of Life became the second best-selling album of 1977 in the U.S., only behind Fleetwood Mac's blockbuster Rumours, and was certified as a diamond album by the RIAA, for sales of 10 million units in the U.S. alone (each individual record or disc included with an album counts towards RIAA certifications).[33] It was the highest selling R&B/Soul album on the Billboard Year-End chart that same year.[34] Songs in the Key of Life was also the most successful Wonder project in terms of singles. The lead-off, the upbeat "I Wish" was released in November 1976, over a month after the album was released. On January 15, 1977, it reached number one on the Billboard R&B chart, where it spent five weeks at the top. Seven days after, it also reached the summit of the Billboard Hot 100, although it spent only one week at number one. The track became an international top 10 single, and also reached number five in the UK. "I Wish" became one of Wonder's standards and remained one of his most sampled songs. The follow-up, the jazzy "Sir Duke", surpassed the commercial success of "I Wish". It was released in March 1977 and also reached number one on the Billboard Hot 100 (spending three weeks at the top starting on May 21) and the R&B chart (for one week, starting on May 28). It also reached number two in the UK, where it was kept off the top spot by the song "Free" by Deniece Williams, who had provided backing vocals on the album. As sales for the album began to decline during the second half of 1977, the two other singles from Songs in the Key of Life failed to achieve the commercial success of "I Wish" and "Sir Duke". "Another Star" was released in August and reached only number 32 on the Hot 100 (number 18 on the R&B chart, and number 29 in the UK) and "As" came out two months later, peaking at number 36 on both the Pop and R&B charts. Though not released as a single, "Isn't She Lovely" received wide airplay and became one of Wonder's most popular songs. It was soon released by David Parton as a single in 1977 and became a top 10 hit in the UK.
