Soap, aside from the individual sensitivity or allergy, is safe for photosensitivity reasons because it washes off. 🤦‍♀️ You're not rubbing the soap on and leaving it there. If you have a reaction after using soap, stop using it and see if specific testing is warranted. Don't blame the
NO essential oil should be put on the skin without dilution - like in a carrier oil or in a commercially produced product like a lotion.
Lush literally has an Orange blossom perfume with dominant notes of bergamot, neroli and orange blossom. While perfumes with an alcohol base should in general not be worn on skin exposed to sun, perfume makers know what works and what is safe for the general population.
Is general caution warrented? Yes, absolutely! Essential oils are very powerful extracts - if I remember correctly for one 10 ml bottle of rose essential oil, a ton of rose petals is needed. Think about that when you add EO drops to your diffuser or in your homemade soap. Overuse or use of too high doses of EO's càn sensitize your skin and make it overreact to other products too.
PSA: Don’t put fucking bergamot on your skin or in your soap.
I’ve been seeing a lot of this shit lately.
Tumblr media
Apparently bergamot is getting popular. I figure now’s a good time to address the issue.
Bergamot is a citrus fruit that smells amazing, so a lot of people like to make essential oils out of it and put it in candles and stuff.
However, this should NEVER go on your skin. It has the same effects as Giant Hogweed (& some other wild carrots like Queen Anne’s Lace) and will give you nasty rashes and chemically hyper-boosted sunburns by making skin highly reactive to sunlight.
Remember this?
Tumblr media
I personally have had friends who were seriously hurt by putting bergamot essential oils on their skin. It sucks.
In case you don’t want to look it up yourself:
Tumblr media
Don’t use or make bergamot soap. Don’t use or make bergamot lotion. Don’t use or make bergamot anything that goes on your skin.
Just don’t put bergamot on your skin.
Stay safe beautiful! <3 And please signal boost this!

Introducing: Diya Wellness
When I went to a Christmas market at Yoga X Life in Ouseburn, a year or a few ago, I got introduced to the wonderful products local business Diya Wellness has been creating over the past four years. It seemed only logical to bring them to you in our 'Introducing Misfits' Q&A series, so that you can get acquainted with them as well!
Hi! Could you introduce yourself and your brand? When did you start your business and what inspired you to do so? "Hi, I’m Vino Subramaniam, the founder and owner of Diya Wellness. I’m a wellness enthusiast and a maker – I handcraft a range of wellness products incorporating ancient Indian formulations and rituals.
Diya started as a passion project in 2020 during lockdown. Growing up enjoying clean, natural ingredients and traditional self-care rituals in Malaysia, I wanted to offer a holistic approach to wellness through my brand. As I started searching for balance in my own personal wellness journey, I began to understand the importance of looking after my physical fitness, mental wellbeing and emotional health. Each product I’ve created and every ritual I’ve shared is part of my own journey of discovering, supporting and nurturing ME!"
How do you decide who and what to work with? "I keep this simple: I don’t work with anyone or make any decisions that don’t align with my personal or brand ethos."
Who have you worked with so far and what has made it a good fit for you? "I’ve worked with Peloton Studios London, 261 Fearless Club UK, Kind Currency, Mana Living, Just Canny, AirMid Massage Therapies, Mayfli, Green Bee and many more amazing people who are very passionate about wellness, sustainability and supporting small businesses."
Who do you hope to work with in the near future? And what do you hope to achieve with your brand in the next three years? "I would love to work with any charities supporting mental health. I hope to grow my brand further and have my own little space so I can keep creating more beautiful wellness products for you to enjoy."
Where can we find you next, be that on a market, in a shop, or online? "You can find Diya Wellness at the Ouseburn Market, Night Market (Boiler Shop), Sister Shack Market, Just Canny Whitley Bay, Green Bee Hexham and online www.diyawellness.com.
Our next Salt Making Workshop is taking place on the 22nd of November at Full Circle Brew, Hoult’s Yard. Our next Wellness Walk will be in January 2025 in Jesmond Dene."

Problems with leather beyond ‘it kills animals’:
- the chemicals in the tanning process. They are nasty. And often just end up dumped in the water.
- air pollution due to the transformation process (hydrogen sulfide during dehairing and ammonia during deliming, solvent vapours).’
- worker conditions.
But that stuff doesn’t count, I guess.
‘But every part of the animal gets used!’ Nu-uh. That’s very much company specific. If you’re not looking into how *they* source their leather then you don’t get to make claims about how much of the rest of the animal is used. (Also, like ‘it’s okay to use this bit of an oil derived product because other parts of the oil also got used!’ is that a good argument?) and hey, don’t forget we need to factor shipping for both industries, too - where is it being made, where is it sent to be turned into the final product, where is that product being shipped?. And we need to factor in everything used in the entire lifecycle of the animals. Every problem with the meat industry has to be accounted for in this calculation, too. Every part - every single step of production - of both industries needs to be assessed.
Like whatever, have your silly arguments about why you hate vegan alternatives, but don’t pretend that leather production isn’t also profoundly bad for the environment and for the people who work in the industry. Honestly reading the notes half of it just seems like apologism for people who wanna pretending the only problem is big oil and if you’re not sitting there ranting about oil companies being bad then what are you even doing as activism?
This conversation requires nuance.
It is not a black and white issue.
Like, it’s just not ‘vegan alternatives always environmentally better!’ Or ‘leather always better!’ It’s complicated shit. The best anyone can do is research individual companies (and wow is that difficult and time consuming).
"Vegan Leather"
Tumblr media
Plastic. just say plastic.
#I know someone who is genuinely spending his RETIREMENT writing an article defending big oil companies because he is a soulless man I guess#(I.e. spend his life working for an oil company and is now looking for ways to morally justify his complicity)#but seriously#this is stupid#leather production is bad#so is overuse of plastics!#and other fabrics derived from oil.#like… say polyester#and ‘I’m vegetarian but wear leather because it’s okay someone else will eat the meat’#cool just say that about different cuts of meat#it’s okay the animal got killed someone else will eat the trotters so I can eat this cutlet guilt free!#all of these arguments are stupid#everything here is stupid#‘I only have to account for the carbon footprint of the single animal that was killed for this bit of leather’#’but THOSE people have to account for the entire industry! HAH! checkmate!’#better solution than this bullshit: just consume less.#like Jfc where do you think the leather is made?#you think most of the people working in tanneries are well payed an well protected?#trying to figure out what is the best thing to do is HARD#^ this shit? absolutely not helpful#reductive bullshit#if you have leather than look the fuck after it so it can last as long as possible#pass it on or hand it down or whatever#like of course if you have it keep it throwing it away would be ludicrous#but… and hear me out here#neither of these products are actually essential to the lives of the vast majority of people

Mectech Palm Oil Refinery Plant- A Legacy of Innovation and Excellence
Oil processing, often known as refining, is the conversion of crude oil into usable products such as petrol, diesel, kerosene, and other petrochemicals. The refining process consists of multiple essential steps, including separation, conversion, treatment, blending, and other refining processes.
Tumblr media
Oil refining is a complicated and energy-intensive process that necessitates advanced equipment and technology. It is an important link in the worldwide energy supply chain, providing fuel for transportation, heating, and electricity generation, as well as raw materials for the petrochemical sector.
Of all the oil refining and processing industries, palm oil refinery is the most important sector as it is a very complex oil and for its production it requires good quality plant.
Palm Oil Refining
Palm oil refining industries are among the world's most important manufacturing sectors, and palm oil has grown to become the world's most traded vegetable oil. Indonesia and Malaysia are the main producers, with exporting enterprises for crude palm oil.
Crude palm oil is derived from palm oil's mesocarp. Extracted Crude Palm oil contains some undesirable contaminants, which must be eliminated partially or fully throughout the palm oil refining process to produce good edible oil with increased stability and keepability.
Palm oil is currently a popular cooking oil in many tropical nations, including South East Asia, Africa, and sections of Brazil. Its popularity is attributed due to its higher heat resistance as compared to any other vegetable oil and also because of its lower cost and good oxidative stability.
Palm's unique and finest quality is that it generates two forms of oil: palm oil and palm kernel oil.
Palm oil is derived from the flesh of the palm fruit, whereas palm kernel oil is extracted from the seeds or kernel of the palm fruit using the palm kernel oil process.
Palm oil is derived from fresh palm fruit flesh through pressing and centrifugation at a palm oil facility. To avoid deterioration of Palm Oil, it must be extracted from fresh palm fruit. As a result, countries that cultivate palm oil remove it to prevent it from deteriorating. The crude palm oil's colour is yellow-red or dark yellow, and its taste is sweet.
The crude palm oil extracted contains undesired contaminants, which hurt the oil's physical appearance, quality, oxidative stability, and shelf life. To eliminate the aforementioned pollutants, the oil is sent to a palm oil refinery plant, where it is refined, bleached, and deodorised. After refining the palm oil, the RBD oil is sent to the fractionation unit to extract palm olein and stearin.
Palm Oil Refinery Plant
Palm oil refining is divided into the sections below:
In most palm oil refining plants, the refining process is a vital stage in the manufacture of edible oils and fats. The finished product's properties that must be monitored include flavour, shelf life, stability, and colour.
Crude vegetable oil can be refined in two ways: physically or chemically. During crude palm oil refining, FFA is removed to obtain a maximum FFA level of 0.1%.
Physical refining typically has a smaller environmental impact than chemical refining.
Bleaching edible oils and fats is an important step in the refining process for crude oils and fat. It does eliminate numerous contaminants, which hurt the physical look and quality of the oil. Generally, the oil is taken to the bleaching section first, and the gums are treated with phosphoric acid so that they may be separated in the pressure leaf filter after bleaching.
During this stage, the adsorptive activity of bleaching earth removes trace metal complexes like iron and copper, colouring pigments, phosphatides, and oxidative products.
This bleached oil is next filtered through industrial filters such as a filter press, a hermetically sealed vertical leaf pressure filter, a plate, or a frame filter.
Mectech's unique bleacher design keeps the bleaching earth in full suspension, resulting in no dead zones and lower utility use. Mectech Bleacher guarantees high-quality oil because the bleaching procedure for crude palm oil is carried out under controlled conditions.
Mectech also excels in supplying facilities for rice bran oil processing refinery in India and abroad. Mectech Rice Bran Oil Extraction Machinery in India and abroad offers the following advantages.
