I completed my first ever sequel novel!

Almost ten years ago, I first started working on a story then called "The King's Slumber" - the first novel I ever finished. Since then, this novel has gone through several extensive re-writes in-between many other projects that I've undertaken since then. In the meantime it has even changed names a few times, and currently its (working) title is King's Poison.

And today, a near decade later, I have finally completed the first draft of a sequel at 73.300 words and roughly 280 standard pages. It's not stellar, it's quite rough around the edges, and I will soon take to taking critical note of all its flaws and potential - so I can polish it into the kinda great story I want to write, a worthy successor to what King's Poison has become.

But for today I just wanna celebrate this achievement.

And to hopefully let you join into these celebrations a bit, here's a few pictures, finished and works in progress, of some of the many characters of King's Poison and its sequel Prophet's Grave:

I can't wait to draw more of them in the near future when we tell their stories even further!

NUMBER 57 Esis

This was an interesting pick-up. I got it because I thought the transforming sarcophagus/sphinx looked cool, but ended up being very charmed by the little robot it came with, despite my usual misgivings about sculpted female anatomy. It’s small, but well detailed and articulate. If they release another kit with this base body (that’s a bit cheaper), I’d like to try incorporating it into a custom Gunpla, akin to the Momokapool.

The Good: As I mentioned, despite her size, Esis is detailed and posable. She comes with several parts to swap out to give her a much more robotic appearance, and is designed to be modular with the rest of the NUMBER 57 kits.

The sphinx doesn’t have a base body like Esis, but is still a neat build that can transform without needing to come apart. You can also remove its head and combine Esis with it to give her centaur legs. And she also comes with a small bird that forms a backpack, meaning you get three small builds in this one set, as well as a ton of weapon accessories and a giant chair.

The Bad: You might want to tackle this one with a dab of glue. There are a decent number of parts that don’t solidly connect, like every blue part. And while the sphinx does transform, the crossed arms on its back get in the way a lot, meaning it isn’t always pleasant to pull off, and nothing tabs into place so it’s a bit loose. Oh, and she can’t sit in the chair without removing the back skirt.

The Details: I went pretty ham on the panel lining on everything, including the chair. I also painted Esis’ and her bird’s eyes green.

Overall, this was a kit I was very surprised by and excited about. While several of its connections can be weak, it’s nothing a little glue can’t fix, but the sheer amount of solid designs, individual builds, accessories, and modularity more than makes up for it. It’s definitely a line I’m going to keep my eyes on in the future.

ESIS #1: Pre-study commentary

I'm going to begin something I'm calling the "excess serotonin intake study" (ESIS) tonight. I wanted to begin on Sunday, but every time a Sunday rolls around I always end up forgetting or putting it off. Unfortunately I'm gonna have to sacrifice neatness for getting the damn thing started, so it'll run from Thursday 3/30 to Wednesday 4/12.

I've been dragging my feet because I'm kind of nervous about the whole thing. This is technically not medically sound (so obligatory /do not do what I'm about to do/ for legal and safety reasons), and if I messed up my math then either this session is going to end too quickly or I could end up poisoning myself a little. Still, I made sure that every dose is well below the fatal limit for someone of my age/size/metabolism.

Actually, I'm more worried that I'll forget somehow right near the end of the study and fuck up my results. The longer I wait to write my dreams down in the morning, the less accurate it might end up- and there's every chance I could just forget to take the fluoxetine. Hell, the whole stash of it I have is from the days I forgot to take it in the morning.

Anyway, shout out to @kenneduck for the absolutely g o r g e o u s art. Good grief. I haven’t read My Immortal (where the Harry Potter-esque quote is from) but I’m sure it’s hilarious.

At this point, it was really interesting what was going on behind the scenes, because my idea for Viri & Esis was to do something more formal in terms of courting. My idea was that, since the zora are so long lived, courtship would also take a long time. @kenneduck on the other hand was already dreaming up sexy scenes for the duo.

the maya and osiris parallels continue to fuck me up. Both of them reaching across timelines to save their partners and while Maya won't stop until she finds the right Chioma, the perfect one that will agree with her vision for the universe, the "real" Chioma, and will throw away any version of her that isn't perfect, Osiris broke time for the chance to save Saint-14, and it didn't matter to him which Saint it was, because to him they're all the "real" Saint
