So I rewatched Barbie as the Princess and the Pauper and it never properly hit me how down bad Dominick was for Erika till now.

Boy was 100% going to break Erika out of prison (in another kingdom) during Premiger's wedding, when no one else would be paying attention to anything else. Like, dude, you are going to start a war over this girl!!! An innocent victim yes, but she was still suspected of having involvement in Anneliese's death and he was so in love that he was just ready to take her away and most likely protect her from Premiger.

King Dominick I didn't respect you enough when I was a child and I should have.

An animation error that is continued, not just from the closeup, but to the wide shot when she looks at the ring on her hand, and also to when she looks at the ring onstage--which is a different outfit and therefore a different animation model? Not on your life. It was intentional. Whether the reasoning behind it was the same, we'll never really know (I think it was), but an "error" would not be repeated so many times.

Nothing will beat the fact that he felt in love with her voice and her character just by listening to her telling her cat he has to stay true to himself. He just was stunned by the beautiful person Erika is

No love story will ever be better than The Princess and the Pauper, where the moment King Dominic falls in love with Erika is when he finds her while she’s dancing around the bathroom in nothing but a robe and singing to her cat.

Erika is an indentured servant at a dress shop who dreams of paying off her parents’ debt and becoming a famous singer, but the chance of her lifetime comes when she is asked to pose as the missing Princess Anneliese, who happens to be identical to Erika.

King Dominick is the wealthy ruler of Dulcinea who has been betrothed to Anneliese in order to save her kingdom from poverty, but, ever fond of disguises, Dominick arrives dressed as a page to meet Anneliese, hoping to find out more about her before marrying her.

Upon Dominick’s arrival, Erika has shakily taken Anneliese’s identity and fooled everyone, hoping to ensure the princess’ safety, but once Dominick reveals his true identity, Erika finds herself drawn to the young king through their shared love of music and their penchant for being honest about their opinions. However, Erika is haunted by the knowledge that she is not who she pretends to be, and once her subterfuge is revealed, Erika fears that she has lost Dominick forever. Still, all hope may not be lost for Dominick and Erika, as Anneliese’s return and the revelation of the true villain will give them a second chance to have a life together - if they still want it.

I JUST THOUGHT ABOUT SOMETHING OMG-

When Dominick overhears Erika sing “Cats Meow” (one of the best songs in the universe dont @ me) his face softens listening to her words.  Not only is it because he loves her singing but because she’s singing genuinely about being your true self. Dominick is a King, used to being told to hide certain parts of him and hes used to people being fake too.  His face softens not ONLY because Erika has a beautiful voice, but because she’s probably the first person (who he thinks is royalty) whos encouraged someone to be who they are and not fake anything. To hear her singing about how being your true self would be better than hiding or pretnding was a message he hadnt heard much of/at all until now. SO HE LITERALLY STARTED TO FALL FOR HER/CONSIDER GIVING HER A CHANCE BECAUSE SHE WAS SAYING AGAIN AND AGAIN TO BE WHO YOU ARE AND THATS LIKE A BREATH OF FRESH AIR FOR ROYALTY LIKE HIM I-

you know what small moment in PatP REALLY fucks me up? after Preminger exposes Erika as a fraud, and she breaks away from the guards and runs over to Dominick, and they both put their hands up like they’re going to touch... but then they don’t. and their hands just keep almost missing each other while she’s trying to frantically explain the situation. bc like, the day before that, during the whole date montage... they were VERY touchy-feely, they held hands, they danced together, he kissed her hand... but then the lie comes out, and suddenly it’s like, we can’t do this... but they both still clearly WANT to. of course, she’s dragged away a minute later, it’s such a tiny, short moment, but it speaks volumes to me. I think about it a lot.
