Backstage at the Liverpool Empire on December 6, 1969. Photo from the Liverpool Echo, © Mirrorpix.
“Saturday 6th December 1969 will stay with me forever. […] [I also wrote] to George addressing a letter to George Harrison c/o Liverpool Empire and included a piece of paper and a stamp addressed envelope. […] [By the stage door] I asked [Eric Clapton] where George was, as I had noticed he definitely wasn’t on the coach and I was praying that the NME hadn’t got it wrong. He replied, ‘He’s making his own way here, ‘cos his mum’s not too well and he’s going to visit her.‘ I felt reassured, and was now getting serious butterflies in my stomach […]. It must have been about half an hour later when a silver Ford Escort pulled up outside the stage door. It was not a flashy car by any means, and this guy with a droopy mustache and very long hair parted in the middle emerged from the car. It was George; he was alone and had driven the car himself! I almost screamed at him to come back, as he opened the stage door holding his bag, but he turned and smiled, and said, ‘I’ve got to come back to lock the car.’ I was terrified that I had just blown it; would he come back out, or would somebody else come out and move it? A moment later, George emerged from the stage door and I tried frantically to think of something sensible to say to him. First, I asked for an autograph… George happily signed it. […] We’d now reached the steps of the Lord Nelson Hotel and my exclusive chat with George had come to an end. […] What a beautiful person George was, he was so attentive and polite. I then went to the show in which George took a low profile as just a member of the band with no fuss. I was in a daze though, after our meeting! And as for my letter I sent to George at the Liverpool Empire? Four days later an envelope came through my door addressed to me in my writing. He’d replied, and inside there was my paper upon which was written: To Dave, Best wishes, keep rocking, George Harrison and Eric Clapton.” - Dave Donnelly (fan), The Beatles and Me (2013)

Molly Lewis - On the Lips - don't know if I'm ready for a full-on lounge/exotica (re)revival, but it's the perfect milieu for a whistler
Consider this your invitation to Café Molly, a lounge bar like they don’t make them anymore. The lights are low, the martinis are ice cold, the banquettes are velvet, and the stage is set for the electrifying talent of whistler Molly Lewis. Molly’s soft-focus cocktail music conjures up visions of classic Hollywood jazz clubs, Italian cinema soundtracks and lingering embraces between lovers. After the exotica stylings of The Forgotten Edge EP and the tropicalia-indebted Mirage EP, Molly wanted to encapsulate the sound of Café Molly for her debut album On The Lips, a dreamy tribute to classic mood music. That spellbinding sound, which usually comes to life in Los Angeles, has also popped up in Mexico City dancehalls, graced the runways of Paris and London Fashion Weeks, and made a magical appearance at a children's fairyland. Molly Lewis’s love for this smoky corner of the world doesn’t end with her songwriting. She is a devotee and an archivist, capturing and enlivening the pieces that endure. She was a regular at the legendary shows by Marty and Elayne, the lounge duo who spent almost 40 years playing LA’s Dresden bar. The duo came to global fame after an appearance in 1996’s Swingers and kept going long after that spotlight faded, finally finishing their nightly residency after the death of Marty at the ripe age of 89 last year. “That felt like the end of an era,” says Molly. But there are still flashes of that world to be found, and she finds them. “I’ve been spending a lot of time in New York lately, where there are a lot more of those moody, classic jazz bars,” she explains. Over the past few years Molly has flexed her one-of-a-kind musical skill alongside Mark Ronson on the Barbie soundtrack, as well as with Dr Dre, Karen O, actor John C Reilly, Mac De Marco, fashion houses Chanel, Gucci and Hermes, and folk rock royalty Jackson Browne. After a performance with longtime friend Weyes Blood on Burt Bacharach’s The Look of Love during a Café Molly evening at LA’s Zebulon, Molly supported the singer on a US tour, introducing her sound to a brand new audience. “I forget sometimes that what I do has that factor of surprise and uniqueness – it is something that most people have never seen before,” says Molly. She too might never have entered the idiosyncratic world of whistling had she not as a teenager seen the 2005 documentary Pucker Up, which details the International Whistling Competition. Equally amused and bemused by the eccentric event, in 2012 she competed herself. Spending her early twenties in Berlin she then moved to LA to work in film – and returned to the contest in 2015 to take home first prize. One evening Molly did a turn at an open mic at the Kibitz Room, a tiny late-night bar inside historic LA deli Canter’s. Her display led to appearances at performance art happenings across the city, and she soon caught the ear of independent record label Jagjaguwar. On The Lips was recorded with producer Thomas Brenneck of the Menahan Street Band, Budos Band, Dap-Kings and El Michels Affair, at his newly-built Diamond West Studios in Pasadena. The pair bonded over the work of 1960s soundtrack composers Alessandro Alessandroni and Piero Piccioni, and, with something of an open door policy during the sessions, a stream of acclaimed musicians ended up across the album’s 10 tracks. With her intoxicating compositions, and wry brand of stagecraft (she might not be singing up there, but she can sure tell a joke) Molly Lewis looks set to join her heroes in the storied lore of the Los Angeles lounge scene and beyond. So pull up a chair, order your favorite drink, and prepare to fall for On The Lips. PERFORMER LINE-UP: On The Lips Molly Lewis - Whistle, guitar, vocals Joe Harrison - Flute, bass Eric Hagstrom - Drums, clave Thomas Brenneck - Organ Written by: Molly Lewis

people you'd like to know better
Tagged by @kirayaykimura who is a cheater because she knows me better than anyone else on this planet
1. Three ships
a. Captain Swan/Hook and Emma (Once Upon a Time) b. Hak and Yona (Yona of the Dawn) c. James and Teresa (Queen of the South)
2. First ship
Mamoru & Usagi from Sailor Moon. And I grew up on the defunct DiC dub so they were "Darien and Serena." TO THIS DAY: obsessed!
3. Last song
Adventures in Solitude by The New Pornographers
4. Last movie
The Little Mermaid (live-action). I enjoyed it. Pretty much a straight adaption but with more fleshed-out characters (except for Eric's mom...her arc was weird imho).
5. Currently reading
Such Sharp Teeth by Rachel Harrison because it's close to Halloween and let's do werewolf romance!
Also:
American Brujeria: Modern Mexican-American Folk Magic by J. Allen Cross. I'm trying to learn the curanderismo practices my Wilita was a practitioner of.
6. Currently watching
I just finished Queen of the South (finally!) last night and that will occupy my brain space for a little bit longer.
Also watching My Happy Marriage with Alex. Need to continue with The Bear. And I'm also on the lookout for something Halloween-y so if anybody has any suggestions...
7. Last thing I wrote
I wrote and FINISHED (but didn't publish outside of showing my closest friends) a little flash story that's basically a fucked up lil fairy tale. Last thing I wrote in general was a bit more dialogue for what might become my novel.
tagging: @knightinironarmor because I have strayed so far from my tony stark moots and i miss them, my captain swan og @a-heart-of-kyber, and @osanzo

Posting some fan stands I made
Stand Name: 「Savoy Truffle」
Stand Reference: Savoy Truffle by the Beatles
Localised Name: 「Box of Chocolates」
User: Eric Harri
User Reference: Eric Clapton and George Harrison
Description: 「Savoy Truffle」takes the form of a purple and gold rectangular chocolate box with a hinged lid. The box is marked with the label of ‘lucky land confectionery’. Inside the box appears to be completely black however small chocolates of assorted shapes and designs can be removed from the box.
Stand Stats:
Power: E
Range: A
Speed: B
Precision: A
Durability: D
Potential: D
Ability:
The Chocolate: when a person eats or is fed a chocolate from 「Savoy Truffle」the chocolate will enact an effect on the person. This effect can be decided by Eric for himself and others as long as he is making physical contact with them when they eat the chocolate. 「Savoy Truffle」is unable to cause any direct physical harm with its effects (for example it can not cause a person’s bones to break, their heart to stop or to develop a sudden wound), however it is still able to cause ‘neutral’ effects (such as temporary loss of certain senses or temporary paralysis) and positive effects (「Savoy Truffle」is able to heal injuries in those who eat the chocolate).
The Cost: 「Savoy Truffle」’s effects require it to spend ‘energy’. The amount of energy is proportional to the strength of the effect. This energy can come from people’s bodies, plants, animals or food. By default the energy will be taken from the person who eats the chocolate (usually in the form of shrinking muscles or rotting teeth) however if the person under the effect of 「Savoy Truffle」 is touching something that can be substituted and states that they wish to use it out loud the energy will be taken from the alternative source.
User: Eric Harri is a small time criminal and fitness buff. Doing mainly extortion and intimidation. Despite his obsessions with fitness when preparing to use his stand Eric often binges on food in order to fill his body with enough calories to use his stand.
—————————
Stand: 「Doncamatic」
Localised Name: 「Tape Deck」
Stand Reference: Doncamatic by Gorillaz
Stand Type: Artificial Humanoid
Stand Stats:
Power: C
Range: B
Speed: B
Precision: C
Durability: D
Ability:
Forced Recording: When 「Doncamatic」punches someone or something it is able to forcefully eject a tape from it. This tape contains an audio recording of a period up to 5 minutes. Upon a tape exiting an object the force will damage it. In the case of humans or animals the tape will exit through their mouth. The tape will contain up to 5 minutes of audio of anything that occurred around person or thing from which the tape was ejected. The tapes are able to be played through a standard tape player or simply by 「Doncamatic」holding it.
Audio Visual reconstruction: 「Doncamatic」is able to crush any tape that has been ejected using its ability. When it does this the tape is destroyed and a reconstruction of the audio will appear formed out of small particles of glowing dust. The reconstruction takes the form of several static images of key moments of the recording. The reconstruction is able to be moved forward and backwards chronologically and paused.

Song Review: Mikaela Davis - “Promise”
Concocting a mix of All Things Must Pass-era George Harrison and Backless-period Eric Clapton, Mikaela Davis plays it safe on “Promise.”
Fueled with subdued guitars and compact at less than three minutes, the second single from And Southern Star (Aug. 4) is a wisp of pop with Davis’ trademark harp adding sparkle to her equally wispy voice as she sings:
When you cut your hair/were you trying to change for me/honey, you’re still there/like a promise I never wanted to keep
It’s a no-risk number that offers little reward in the process.
Grade card: Mikaela Davis - “Promise” - C-

It's no wonder George fell for EC and Dylan. He wasn't second best for them.
GM tried to be impartial, but Paul was always his favorite. He was completely enamoured with him.
Brian was the same way, with Paul and John holding a different special place in his heart.
John and Ringo both loved George but not enough to put him first. I will say, though, Ringo did get there, eventually.
And Paul...well, Paul had stopped putting George first as soon as he met John.
Looking at the photos of GM and Paul I realized that if George had been put first in just one of those situations. With John or Ringo or GM or Brian, he might not have felt second best. Just one of them.
GM could have stood up to Paul saying George should get more songs on the album, but he wouldn't dare. He valued Paul's love too much to risk it on George. But he could have, and Paul might have even listened.
George just needed to not be second best to one person. One person and I think it would have been different.

Pattie truly needs no introduction, but here’s one anyway, lol. Pattie was born on March 17th, 1944 in Somerset, England. Like a lot of girls born on St. Patrick’s Day, she was given the name Patricia as a reference. She was the first born child of Colin and Diana Boyd, and has three younger siblings: Colin Jr., Jenny and Paula. Later after Colin and Diana divorced, Diana re-married and Pattie gained four more half-siblings. Both Jenny and Paula are former models and music muses like their big sister. From 1948-53, the Boyd family lived in Nairobi, Kenya while Colin was discharged from the Royal Air Force. Pattie and her siblings were primarily educated at private schools after the family moved back to England, with Pattie working as a shampoo girl at a salon after graduation. It was there that a client who worked for Honey Magazine convinced Pattie to give modeling a try. Soon the young blonde girl was being hired for advertisements, TV commercials, fashion spreads, runways/catwalks and magazine covers by 1963. She was a favorite of photographer David Bailey and a muse to designer Ossie Clark. Even film director Richard Lester was somewhat inspired by Pattie after he worked with her on a snack commercial and then gave her a minor role in his film A Hard Day’s Night (1964). She also supplied a cameo in Lester’s follow-up zany comedy The Knack…and How to Get It (1965).
Not only is Pattie considered one of the original supermodels of the 1960s next to Jean Shrimpton and Twiggy, but she is also the quintessential music muse in classic rock. During the filming of A Hard Day’s Night, Pattie’s co-star, George Harrison of the Beatles, asked her out. Her popularity then soared even higher as the girlfriend of the most famous guitarist of the British Invasion. George and Pattie were THE power couple of rock music scene in the ‘60s, and lived the high life of Swinging London. The love birds eventually married on January 21st, 1966, and spent most of their relationship living on the properties Kinfauns in Surrey and later Friar Park in Oxfordshire. On the exterior, Pattie had it all: more photoshoot and ad offers than ever, four Vogue Magazine covers in 1969, an attractive, charming rockstar husband, and friendships with fellow muses and stars like Marianne Faithfull and Jane Asher. Pattie and Jenny even ran their own fashion boutique in 1968 called Juniper in Chelsea Market, after the song ‘Jennifer Juniper,’ Donovan wrote for Jenny. Like most musician wives/girlfriends, Pattie was at many of the band’s events and shows. She, along with Cynthia Lennon and Maureen Starkey, traveled with the Beatles on location for the production of Help! (1965), the band’s second film with Lester. She was also at the live 1967 TV taping of ‘All You Need Is Love;’ appeared in the music videos for ‘A Day in the Life’ (1967) and ‘Something’ (1969); was at the movie premiere of Yellow Submarine (1968); modeled for Apple Boutique—owned by the band in ’67-68; visited Rishikesh, India with the band on their spring 1968 spiritual retreat, and so on.
But on the interior, George & Pattie had almost as many problems as they did perks. Only a couple years into their marriage, Pattie discovered she was infertile. In her 2007 memoir Wonderful Tonight, Pattie says that George wanted to start a family eventually and didn’t want to adopt. He also told her she should quit modeling when they got engaged, but she was still interested in her career. A year into dating, the two had an unfortunate experience where they drank spiked tea with LSD at a party, and the final year of their relationship George was a cokehead. Though both were interested in learning about Indian culture at first, George became obsessed with playing sitar and practicing Hinduism to the point of it effecting their sex life. And of course, George and his bandmates still had groupies on tours and in the studio, which Pattie couldn’t accompany him on because of her fashion jobs. George later had a quick affair with model Charlotte Martin in 1968 while Charlotte was spending the week in their house. In 1973, George & Pattie participated in a wife-swap with Ronnie & Krissy Wood, with George and Krissy going on vacation together, and Ronnie and Pattie staying behind at Friar Park. The final straw, as Pattie considers, was George sleeping with bandmate Ringo Starr’s wife Maureen in 1974. The Harrisons officially divorced in June 1977.
But the biggest instigator and infamous blow to the Harrison marriage was George’s ‘best friend’ Eric Clapton. A guitar god on stage and in the studio, but kinda a douche at home. In 1968, Eric grew strongly attracted to Pattie, to the point that he dumped live-in girlfriend Charlotte Martin because he couldn’t stop thinking about Pattie. In Wonderful Tonight, Pattie suggests the main reason Charlotte slept with George was out of spite from the break-up. Naturally Pattie denied Eric in 1969 when he first declared his love (though in Eric’s own 2007 memoir, Clapton, he claims they’d already made out at this point). Rather than move on, he spent six months shacking up and doing drugs with Pattie’s 17-year-old sister Paula. After his fling with Paula, Eric spent a year with his new band, Derek & the Dominos, composing and recording the 1970 album ‘Layla & Other Assorted Love Songs.’ Every track, excluding the covers, was written about Pattie. It sucks Eric was basically a creep during all this because, IMO, ‘Layla’ is the great rock anthem of all time, and the rest of the album is amazing.
Pattie eventually did officially reciprocate Eric’s feelings in 1975, and they married on March 27th, 1979. Except that Eric was stoned or drunk their whole relationship, carried on with groupies on the road, began seeing future wife Lory del Santo while still with Pattie, was distant emotionally, etc. Basically a repeat of her marriage to George, but 100x worse. The worst moment was probably when Pattie was still living with George, and Eric threatened to snort a bag of heroin if she didn’t leave George (why do people like them together??). Pattie also attempted to get pregnant in 1984 with vitro fertilization, but that only caused two miscarriages. :( She moved out of their house in 1987, and filed for divorce a year later.
So what was the consolation for all this bullshit for two decades? How about a dozen of the best songs ever written. Forget ‘Layla,’ what about ‘Bell Bottom Blues,’ and ‘Wonderful Tonight?’ Or ‘I Need You?’ Or ‘If I Needed Someone?’ Or ‘For You Blue’ and ‘Old Brown Shoe?’ ‘Something??’ Yeah, I know George denied the last one, but LBR, he down played a lot of Beatles stuff after he married and had a kid with Olivia Arias. So while Pattie could hold a grudge and completely ignore her musical impact like Jane Asher, she’s owned up to the title of rock’s greatest muse; despite years of jealous fangirls and sexist fanboys. #kween Since the 1990s, Pattie’s been with third husband Rod Weston and has toured with two photography exhibits in 2006-2010 and 2011 on her own photos she’s shot. She’s also appeared in various documentaries like “The Beatles Anthology” (1995-96), Living in the Material World (2011) and Life in 12 Bars (2017). In her book, she retrospectively called George the love of her life, and felt Eric was probably only obsessed with her out of a musical jealousy with George.

Hey George, in fact, most people do not think about the world like that. You're just a queer poly boy who sees the world like that.
“I think everybody was in love with everybody else permanently during the 60s. I would have been surprised if any of our friends had not all been in love with each other. You know, there’s sex and there’s love. And I think the 60s period – there was a genuine love for mankind, generally. I’m very liberal, actually – very liberal person. But at that time anyway, over the years, we were splitting up. And contrary to what some people think, I was very pleased that they got together because for me, you know, I didn’t ever want it to be, you know, the bad guy who split it up, like kicked her out or whatever the situation was happening. But really, for years we’d been – potential divorces for, you know, long before all that “Layla” and all that stuff happened. And I think it was just a natural thing that happened.”
— - George Harrison on splitting up with Pattie Boyd and her relationship with Eric Clapton, “I Was There: Pattie Boyd,” BBC Radio 2 [original date of quote unknown] (26 Sep. 2019)
