The interconnectedness of animal agriculture and the environment.
"A multitude of environmental problems our planet faces share a common instigator: animal agriculture and our reliance on meat and dairy products. According to the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA), global agriculture—dominated by livestock production and the grains grown to support it—accounts for 30% of greenhouse gas emissions. A 2006 study by the United Nation’s Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) finds that 18% of global greenhouse gas emissions is directly attributable to livestock production, which is more than the emissions attributable to the entire transportation sector. Whichever number is relied upon, agricultural emissions are only going to increase as rising incomes and urbanization drive a global dietary transition towards increased consumption of meat and dairy products. The growing demand for animal agriculture is expected to be a major contributor to a roughly 80% increase in global greenhouse gas emissions from the agricultural sector. This means that animal agriculture must be a central element of our efforts to mitigate climate change."

What is the reason that despite so much progress there is no solution to avoid floods?
Despite significant progress in technology, engineering, and disaster preparedness, floods continue to pose a significant risk. Here are some of the key reasons why, despite advancements, floods remain a persistent problem:
Climate Change and Extreme Weather
Climate change has led to more frequent and severe weather events. Increased rainfall, intense storms, and rising sea levels are contributing to the risk of floods. As weather patterns become less predictable and more extreme, it is challenging to design infrastructure that can accommodate these changes.
Rapid Urbanization and Inadequate Planning
Rapid urbanization often leads to a reduction in natural drainage areas as cities expand. When urban development outpaces proper planning, it can result in inadequate drainage systems and increased surface runoff, leading to flooding. The growth of impervious surfaces like roads and buildings prevents water from being absorbed into the ground.
Environmental Degradation
Deforestation, soil erosion, and loss of wetlands can reduce the land's ability to absorb water, increasing the risk of floods. These environmental changes can be a result of human activities like deforestation, mining, or agricultural expansion.
Infrastructure Limitations
Existing infrastructure may not be designed to handle extreme weather events. As storms and rainfall become more intense, outdated or inadequate drainage systems struggle to cope, leading to flooding. Additionally, aging infrastructure may not be properly maintained, increasing the risk of failure during heavy rain.
Population Density and Vulnerability
High population density in flood-prone areas increases the potential impact of floods. People living in low-lying or coastal regions are more vulnerable to flooding, and relocation is often not a feasible solution due to economic and social reasons.
Political and Economic Constraints
Implementing large-scale flood prevention measures requires significant investment and political will. In many cases, there are economic or political constraints that hinder the development of robust flood prevention infrastructure.

“Humanity is entering a time of great change and difficulty, a time when it will be facing the Great Waves of change—environmental degradation, resource depletion, violent weather, growing economic and political instability and the threat of war and conflict. It is a time that has been building for a long period. It is not merely the consequences of events today or tomorrow. It is has been building over a long period of time.
Humanity has misused its natural inheritance. It has misused the world. It has overused its resources. In the name of growth and expansion, it has exceeded the limits of many of the world’s resources. It has done this at the expense of your future and your future stability.
The difficulties ahead will require immense change in human perception and behavior. This will not be merely a matter of perspective or philosophy but really of necessity.…

Bizzarro Landscapes: Trash Quilt Loom waste, polyester, fishing line January 2019 to April 2019
This piece, entitled Bizzaroh Landscapes: Trash Quilt, is a comment on the negative effects human beings have had on the earth’s natural environments. The blanket layer mimics the ground that it lays upon to represent various aspects of environmental degradation happening in the world today, specifically those closely associated with the textile industry. Naturally dyed loom waste and disperse dyes are used to represent these issues. Excessive offcuts, as well as overproduction, and dye waste are major issues in the textiles and fashion industry that have a global effect. The blanket is meant to obscure what is beneath it through various layers, creating a vale between what can be seen and what is hidden. This represents the general understanding of our pollution crisis in that we are limited by the information that is provided to us. It also lends to the idea that, no matter what, the earth shall survive under our waste and return to its natural cycles after we are gone. The playful nature of textiles as a material makes this concept more widely accessible to a plethora of people, with a focus on children. Creating repeated patterns of photographed garbage also abstracts this unfortunate reality, creating a beautiful image from something displeasing. The use of fishing line and polyester alludes to both plastic pollution as well as the newfound love of human made materials in textiles, which take hundreds of years to decompose if they do at all, and take up massive amounts of space in landfills. The quilt is an interactive piece that is meant to create a narrative stating if we do not do something about the pollution crisis soon then we shall one day live on an earth that is covered in our own waste.

Environmental degradation
Environmental degradation means hampering the environment’s natural health and biodiversity. This can be caused naturally or by human activities. It is the depletion of ecosystems, habitats, the quality of air, soil, and water, and extinction of wildlife. There has been an increase in huge biodiversity loss in the past 10 years this is mainly because of overpopulation or population growth,…

"There can be no peace as long as there is grinding poverty, social injustice, inequality, oppression, environmental degradation, and as long as the weak and small continue to be trodden by the mighty and powerful." -The Dalai Lama •••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••• A powerful quote from The Dalai Lama that captures the sad reality that so many take for granted. Their is a lot in the world that we may wish to to avert our eyes from. Empathy and compassion demand we confront what we see and do what we can to address the problem. I have seen a lot of injustice in my years on earth. I have tried in my own meager way to make a difference but what is needed is a movement. Well, there is one now. Perhaps this movement, and the Dalai Lama’s advice, will spur others to do their part. •••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••• #Quote #DalaiLama #Poverty #SocialInjustice #Inequality #Oppression #PracticeCompassion #EnvironmentalDegradation #DesignedByJeriRae from a stock photo from Pixabay via Typorama. https://www.instagram.com/p/CBcB7lpFNUO/?igshid=lpdyp7hjyzvv

As a vegan I have been accused of not caring enough about people or the environment.
Here’s the latest video I watched from one of my favorite vegan YouTubers
https://youtu.be/sD0ADO1QnW0
It’s about the exploitation of HUMANS and the environment in the fast fashion industry.
youtube
And here’s what you can do cause saying well corporations need to change but continue to buy from them doesn’t incentivize them to change in any way. Corporations are out to make money, if they’re being evil and making money there’s no reason for them to stop doing what they do. Stop buying their shit, tell them why, and then they’ll change...maybe.
