I feel real stupid for not noticing the Teacher and Simurgh parallels, and why Wildbow chose to have them as Victoria’s Big Bads:

Teacher and the Simurgh represent the relationship of a Tyrannical & Unfair System, and Those Who Want to Be the System.
The Simurgh was built for the sole purpose of keeping the Shard Cycle running and has no emotion or care for its work, unlike Fragile One or Grasping Self who do care about the hosts. The Simurgh is quite literally a machine, a program, built by an oppressive force on humanity (the Entities).
Oppression is her very EXISTENCE.
Teacher is a man. He self proclaims himself as a mastermind who has flawless plans and who wanted to simply see how the world works. He cannot innovate or create himself, but he can lead those who do (unintended Elon Musk comparison there…). He claims that every goal of his, every act, and every terror strike is to save humanity.
But when you look at what he does with his power, what his true goal is, you understand that it’s all a lie.
Teacher doesn’t just copy the Simurgh’s playbook (pretending to be benevolent with their power but secretly mastering people, using pawns for terrorist acts, programming people to fulfill roles in their society) but he quite plainly want to Be the Entities. He planned on merging with his Shard and becoming a God, making the Cycle his (his Titan form is quite literally him blending himself into his Shard).
While this is all important to Victoria because she highly values individualism, consent, and human free will, it’s also important because Victoria also wanted to be part of a system.
True, it was a system of heroes, but it was a system that was clearly failing and throughout the run of Ward, Victoria keeps getting burned by this system. The heroes refuse to acknowledge or reward her efforts of saving the city or the world, they blame her for things outside her control, or they blame her when she saves them all.
And that’s not even getting into how her own actions have been self-harming as she tries to live up to heroic ideals instilled into her since birth.
By the time that Vic saves the multiverse (arguably for the second time), Victoria bluntly rejects a return to the system. She lays out how she needs to take a step back, listen to people who want to help her, and re-evaluate her goals in life. She even succeeds in getting the Wardens to look at their system and acknowledge that it has to change, and a small step could be made right then and there.
Victoria ends up - ironically enough - becoming a teacher (I’m sure that pissed Teacher off) and emphasizing to the younger generation about how empathy, honesty, and transparency are needed for helping with people going through mental health crises. That it should be about making them feel safe more than “winning”.

Yes my friends, this just what you think it is. A baby. But, if you look just a wee bit closer, you can see a small, rapidly moving object.... a goblin. Hold your gasps, it will only get worse. To her horror, however, she could never imagine what she would envision when she put the image through infrared waves, as a joke between her Husband, who was having an affair with her at the time, Brad Harding (the couple had a divorce over work-life complications and the cheating, as mentioned above.)

This is what the Goblins use, we all know the power of love and friendship is real and tangible, epics of plenty have been written of beasts being slayed with just the power of friends joining together. These tales were not just that, tales, but forewarning of the future the goblins will have. How to Communicate with Ghosts
The fascination with communicating with ghosts, or the spirits of the dead, has always captivated humans, leading to the creation of numerous techniques throughout history. The practice, which aims to close the gap between the material world and the spirit realm, frequently combines ritual, belief, and occasionally technology. One of the most common ways to communicate with ghosts is through mediums. Those who profess to be able to perceive and converse with spirits are known as mediums. A medium may go into a trance-like state during a séance, which enables a spirit to speak through them to the living. Lead study Mexican author Luis Rodríguez, a professor emeritus at the Institute of Radio Astronomy and Astrophysics at the National Autonomous University of Mexico
In 2023, the James Webb Space Telescope (JWST) helped identify hundreds of free-floating "rogue" planets that don't orbit a parent star. Now, astronomers have found that a pair of these planets may be producing enigmatic, hard-to-interpret radio signals.
The rogue planets spotted by JWST lie in the Orion Nebula, a long-time observational hotspot for astronomers. In total, they number over 500. This discovery bonanza was possible thanks to JWST's ability to pick up infrared radiation emitted by these relatively young planets.
Bizarrely, though, about 80 of these planets exist as pairs. Similar in mass to Jupiter, the planets orbit each other at distances ranging from 25 to 400 times the distance between Earth and the sun. These tangoing duos, called Jupiter-mass binary objects (JuMBOs), pose a huge mystery for astronomers, because the existence of these worlds challenges current theories of planet formation. Some scientists think these objects may not even be planets but rather previously unknown entities that are larger than planets but smaller than brown dwarfs, which are sometimes called "failed stars" because they blur the line between planets and stars.
The JWST data showed that JuMBOs generated infrared radiation, but the new study's authors wanted to see if these dancing objects produced radio waves. That's because different classes of cosmic objects produce distinct patterns of radio emissions. For instance, planets like Jupiter spew several types of radio signals, including gigahertz-frequency emissions thousands of times higher-pitched than an FM signal, partly because of their magnetic fields.
Spotting such signatures from the JuMBOs could help resolve their identity. The observations could also explain "why some objects have detectable radio emission and others do not," lead study author Luis Rodríguez, a professor emeritus at the Institute of Radio Astronomy and Astrophysics at the National Autonomous University of Mexico, told Live Science in an email.
To find radio wave "snapshots" of the Orion Nebula where the JuMBOs reside, the scientists combed through archives of observations maintained by the U.S. National Radio Astronomy Observatory (NRAO). They found just one pair that apparently emits radio waves: JuMBO 24. Itself an oddity among the oddball objects, it's the heaviest of the JuMBOs, and also the one with the tightest space between its component planets.
A decade's worth of data the research team collated showed that the radio waves remained steady but strong, with a power of roughly a quarter of a ton of TNT and frequencies of 6 to 10 gigahertz. The radio waves also weren't circularly polarized, meaning they lacked spiral, twisting electric fields, the team reported in their study, published Jan. 8 in The Astrophysical Journal Letters.
But these features aren't what astronomers expect of signals created by planets." Circular polarization is an unambiguous indicator of the presence of magnetic fields," Rodríguez said. Without this, the team can't say definitively that the signals come from JuMBO 24 (assuming the planets have magnetic fields). Besides, radio emissions from other exoplanets are more variable and less intense.
Even if JuMBO 24 isn't a pair of planets but rather another type of cosmic duo, the signals are unusual. Signals from brown dwarfs are very different from the newly identified radio beams. The beams' brightness and frequency even ruled out the possibility of pulsars, the rapidly spinning cores of dead stars that produce pulses of radio waves at regular intervals.
The researchers also estimated the likelihood that the signals originate from an object behind JuMBO 24 and found it to be exceedingly slim, at just 1 in 10,000. And, in case you were wondering, the signals probably don't originate from aliens. "The fact that both components emit at similar levels favors a natural mechanism," Rodríguez said.
With the research at an impasse, the team is applying to the NRAO's Very Large Array in New Mexico to collect data from free-floating planets. Until then, the radio signals will remain a mystery.

Bug's RWBY Worldbuilding Series 2:
Have been cooking up ideas in my head about Aura/Semblances/Dust/Magic, and clarifications and differentiation for each. So finally, Part 2, Dust, which will also need its own sub-parts. First, an overview of what it actually *is*, and then we'll get to the rest. Part 1: Aura Part 1-B: Active Aura Part 2: Dust, A General Overview <- You are here.
Dust in this AU is now not some mysterious independent entity, it's a transmutation of minerals caused by a build-up of condensed Aura, to put it simply. To be more detailed, it's a very slow accumulation of "spent" or "background" Aura within the mineral substrate. That's Aura after it radiates away from living things and loses most of its energy to "cooling". This Aura is very persistent in the atmosphere. Its rate of energy loss eventually hits equilibrium with the energy the system gains as new Aura is released, which creates a sort of constant, low level "background radiation" of Aura across the entire world. This Aura need not be sourced from those with "active" Aura, as every living thing produces Aura particles, and "active" Aura is only the same thing on a much more energetic wavelength. In essence, compared to normal light terminology, most lifeforms are infrared, and "active" Aura is like jumping up to ultraviolet. Meanwhile, "spent" Aura drops down to something like a radio wave. To condense, it then needs a pre-existing, compatible mineral or Dust deposit that will slowly attract it and accumulate it, eventually being transmuted into Dust and then transmuting more pre-existing, surrounding mass into new Dust. Because the particles are ubiquitous, but individually extremely weak, this is the main reason that Dust accumulation takes a long time. ""Renewable"", but on a rather impractically slow scale. A pre-existing deposit steadily increases in mass faster, proportional to available outer surface area, but for each given bit of surface area, maximum accretion rate is only about 1 cm of further buildup per century. Minerals associated with biological sources also seem to be the most "compatible" with the initial transmutation into Dust, but in practice, this does not mean that limestone deposits become giant Dust expanses, or that all coal is replaced with Dust, or that nobody in Remnant knows what diatomaceous earth is. That's because the invisible, uneven "pull" of so many different Dust deposits creates an endless "tug-of-war" that keeps background Aura constantly in flux, instead of always being free to settle and accumulate. Therefore, areas can be considered "saturated" with all the Dust they can form long, long before a full conversion. This phenomenon on a worldwide scale also contributes to background Aura creating vast, worldwide "currents", "eddies", and "jetstreams", which also leads to different areas having different thresholds at which they become "saturated", and these thresholds being subject to gradual change over time. Continuous Aura circulation is also the main reason why someone will not accumulate Dust in their bones as they age. However, ancient remains can transmute, inspiring a great deal of this Remnant's spirituality and mythology. Stories of clams that develop "Dust pearls" are a dime a dozen, as well as tales of legendary creatures and nature spirits born with Dust for bones. Beyond remains, perhaps there is a grain of truth to this... Beautiful as they are, "Dust fossils" are only a rare minority of all fossils found. Not only can they become the nucleus of further Dust growth and become indistinguishable from regular Dust deposits, but many fossils end up in areas that are already too "saturated" with other deposits. However, what kind of Dust you get can be rather complicated. It depends on the environment, depth/elevation, surrounding mineral strata, and the contributing Aura, meaning that it also depends a lot on the local *and* historical ecosystem of an area. So, yes, because it's cold, modern Solitas is currently forming a lot of Ice Dust, but it ends up being much more dynamic and complicated than "Solitas cold, so just Ice Dust".

He flinched as some of the glow hit his skin, quickly returning to neutral as he realized it wasn’t the sort of light the hurt. “Very few entities of this world are totally bloodless, even fewer who are also capable of continuous illusions. Though, I admit, I would have guessed you were of the fae.” He gripped his chin, looking her up and down with a narrowed gaze. “Some changelings can be bloodless.”
“Huh.” Phosa thought about that for a moment, watching the stranger flinch with neither surprise nor apparent offense. He did relax again more quickly than she was used to.
“Are the fae from a different realm? Or had you already changed your mind before you talked? And…”
Phosa focused on her magic, pulling the well-practiced shape of her humanoid form back into her more conscious awareness. “What, ah… how are you sensing blood? Is it the heat? Because I could try…”
Infrared more finely tuned; pulsing ever so faintly, a fine lace tracery pattern across the surface, not just the general overall signature she was used to sensing off of humans.
She didn’t know the actual patterns of capillaries below the skin, and if it would take that level of effort to pull this off then it wouldn’t be worth it. But she was curious, now. She tilted her head, her new unpracticed pattern not quite following the motion just yet, and spread her hands for the stranger.
“Does this make any difference?” Phosa frowned, studying the stranger more closely for the first time — abruptly foiled in her brief effort to use him as a reference. “…hm. You aren’t so lively, yourself.”

Fuyune Sazanka
The Sazanka Clan is mostly known for their Crystal Release, but their most legendary shinobi from the Warring States Era had the only naturally occurring kekkei tōta - Winter Release. (Also worth noting that it is widely believed that the Sazanka Clan is not a descendant of the Sage of Six Paths but of a malevolent entity called Jashin, which resulted in them being viewed as barbarians during the Warring States Era.)
Fuyune Sazanka is the only other person who was born from the clan who had Winter Release after the death of Shimon the Soothsayer by the hands of the Second Tsuchikage, Mu.
Just a three year old during the end of the Third Shinobi War, Fuyune witnessed the death of her pregnant mother in the hands of Hidden Cloud due to territorial disputes between the Land of Lightning and the Land of Frost.
The prodigy heiress of the Sazanka, she was 9 when she entered the Chuunin Exams held at the Leaf Village. It was the first time her power was truly exposed to the greater public. Her fight with Itachi Uchiha was the final round of the Chuunin Exams, where she lost. It was then she met Itachi's younger brother, Sasuke, who she surmised would've been the same age as the sibling her mother was carrying, causing her to have some resentment against him, as he had everything she lost. However, it was not the last time they would meet as her father signed a secret treaty with Fugaku Uchiha, which led to joint operations with one of the founding clans of the Leaf Village.
A few years down the line, Hanzo the Salamander's adoptive son - Nagato - had begun calling for a joint operations team towards the minor villages, in hopes of having an alliance, asking for one jounin level shinobi from each village. Hidden Frost is such an example of one that received an invitation, and Fuyune was sent to be the representative to the formation of this joint military force - the Akatsuki.

Shizuka Hansei
It is a widely an open secret that the Hansei Clan was descended from a branch family of the Hyuuga, which accounts for their strange ocular power that can see in infrared light. It was not a secret, however, that the Hansei resent the Hyuuga for countless generations that Goro Hansei, the clan head during the formation of villages, refused to join the Leaf because the Hyuuga are there and proceeded to become one of the founding fathers of the Haze Village, alongside their allies.
As the Hansei Clan beliefs go, being a shinobi alone would not be enough to get by, Goro Hansei gambled investments in various things to a point where the Hansei became the richest shinobi clan in the world and the Haze Village being the most technologically advanced, that they have never been invaded by others.
As the direct descendant of Goro and heiress of the Hansei, Shizuka has been noted to be of very similar personality. Her constant seeking of business ideas and opportunities, investments, and ways to profit starting at a young age often take people aback. Her hatred for the Hyuuga isn't because of the old generation's resentment, but because her parents were killed by the Hyuuga during the Third Shinobi War. As the Akatsuki was formed, she knew that not only Rain sought her clan to handle some of the finances, but that the bigger villages will force their way in. She threatened Hanzo that she would stop the funding if the Leaf sent a Hyuuga when this happens.
Due to her accidental exposure to the strange purple meteorite Goro Hansei kept hidden in the basement of the clan manor, Shizuka became physically weak. However, her chakra became more potent. Due to this, she specializes mostly in sealing techniques and genjutsu, along with her clan's kekkei genkai, radiation release. She had sought the Shikkotsu Forest, and is able to perform sage techniques.

The History and Development of Television The concept of the Global Village purports a world in which the electronic mediaand Information and Communication Technology (ICT) have transcended all barriers of time, space and geographical distance. Without distance, there is no remoteness. The entire world becomes a single entity socially, economically, politically, culturally. The process by which all distinctions are blurred and blended is termed Globalization. The Television, in its many evolutions, has been the precursor in bringing about Globalization and creating a Global Village of the world. Simply called the TV, Telly or, adversely, the Idiot Box, this contraption that brings sounds and pictures to billions of houses across the world, has played a crucial role in transforming the world itself. This paper will: i. Trace the history and technical evolution of the Television. ii. Take a look at how new technologies and their convergence have added to the power of the Television. iii. Examine the role the Television has played in making the world what it is today. iv. Explore the future potentials of the Television. History and Technical Evolution The word television was coined by a Russian scientist Constantin Perskyi in a paper he presented at the International Electricity Congress at the International World Fair in Paris on August 25, 1900. Even before that, Paul Gottlieb Nipkow, a German student, had patented the first television in 1884. It was a electromechanical device based on the photoconductivity of the element Selenium and Nipkow’s spinning disk with a series of holes of equal diameter drilled into it at equal distances. In the camera unit, as the disk spun in front of the object, each hole produced a scan line which was captured by a light detecting device behind it. The scan line was transmitted by radio wave to the reproducer or receiving unit. This basic television and other refinements that came after it were however restricted to transmission of still images and silhouettes. It was only on October 2, 1925 that the Scottish scientist John Logie Baird, who took the lead in development of the electromechanical television, achieved live transmission of moving half-tone images in his laboratory. PARANORMAL ACTIVITY 4 (2012) REWATCH

This film takes place in 2011 whereas the first and second film happen in 2006 and the third happens in 1988. We are following a brand new family that has nothing to do with the families from the previous movies. Or do they?

This weird kid, Robbie, comes to stay at the house because his mom had a medical emergency and there is nowhere else for him to go (no friends or family). Robbie says that we can’t see his imaginary friend and is very creepy. Someone draws that weird symbol of the circle in the triangle in the sand. The nerdy love interest, Ben, of the teen daughter, Alex, comes over and we see some creepy stuff in the infrared lights coming off the Xbox. Robbie keeps being out of bed and doing little weird-o things.

Alex starts to believe there is a supernatural entity in her house and gets the Paranormal Activity drag from friend Ben (as a joke). Alex hears a bunch of noises while she is home alone then finds a line of toys leading her to her little brother, Wyatt's, closet which was freaky. Then the chandelier nearly falls on her! Wyatt has a little toy trike like in The Shining! Pretty much each night one or both kids gets up and is up doing something weird, usually talking to Toby, the not so imaginary friend. While talking about the circle in the triangle Alex says, “This obviously means something,” to which Ben replies, “Yeah, it's shapes,” and, well, he isn't WRONG.

Wyatt and Robbie go over to Robbie’s house and Robbie’s mom is there and she is spooky (it's totally Kate by the way). Apparently Kate told Wyatt his first family (he is adopted) needs him back. Yikes. Ew, the creepy shadow child following Wyatt down the stairs. I literally said out loud “ew, I don't like it.” Wyatt might just be Hunter but I’m not entirely sure how, I thought that Robbie was Hunter from Movie 2… Not sure how Kate lost track of him (Wyatt/Hunter) but still retained a child (Robbie). Wyatt gets the classic Paranormal Activity drag but this time it is under the water of his bath! Oh no! Never leave your kids alone during bath time! Wyatt is now fully believing he used to be Hunter.

Kate is in the house, Alex is stuck in the garage with the car running, and Kate goes for Hunter/Wyatt. The parents think Alex is crazy but the car started without keys… A short amount of time goes by and Kate is back in the house, trying for Wyatt/hunter again. The mom gets got during the day time so Kate hides her body. Poor Ben comes over too and you just know he's about to die. The young man gets his neck snapped by Kate then she hides his body too. Alex and her dad come home to Kate and Wyatt going across the street and “no one” at home. That is until Alex calls Ben and his phone rings in her closet because that's where his dead body is… yikes. Then Alex gets the real Paranormal Activity drag and so does her father! What a world! Finally in a desperate attempt to save her brother from evil Alex encounters the Coven instead and is eaten by Kate. Credits.

Targets Identified: BTE Overdrive - New Adversaries
Hello, Dan here,
This week I bring you the last preview for Beneath Twisted Earth: Overdrive. We're going to be taking a look at some of the new adversaries that will be added to the game. In the core version of Beneath Twisted Earth adversary stat blocks were available for three primary sources of dangers, The Twisted Earth, Ark Threats, and The Mesozoins. While eight new factions will be included in Overdrive, most of those can utilize the core adversary stat blocks for missions. The expanded adversaries will be filling out new niches that were not present in the core. Four new categories of adversaries will be featured: Venusian Vanguard Fleet, and Gilgamesh Drones both being new enemies of the arks; Paranormal Threats featuring stat blocks to fill out games featuring supernatural story elements, as well as a new Adversary Type, Eldritch; and finally, On-Foot Threats for human scale adversaries that pilots may face when they are outside of their mechs.

Invisibility: As an action the Phantom may become invisible to the visual spectrum, but is still detectable to infrared and seismic sensors. This effect is negated if it takes damage, but is not affected if the Phantom attacks an opponent. Attacks made while invisible are at +5 to hit, while attacks made against the Phantom are at -5.
Posses: As an action the Phantom may possess a creature or object within Melee Range. A pilot may expend a reaction to attempt to Resist this possession. Any object or creature that is successfully possessed falls under the complete control of the Phantom. While a Phantom is possessing a target it cannot be damaged. Possessed Targets may make a Mind check at the end of their turn to attempt to end this effect. On a success, the possession ends and the Phantom is expelled at Melee Range.
Description
These large, translucent entities come in many otherworldly shapes, and look like something from deep in the Twisted Earth or another world altogether. While their origins are unknown, The Nephilim Foundation has records of their infiltration amongst societies stretching back into antiquity. While their motivations are as alien as their appearance, they are known to stake claim to a territory and possess individuals/objects that enter it. When Remnants become possessed by one of these phantoms, they behave in odd ways that range from mundane to dangerous.
Tactic
When threats become apparent, use an action to become invisible. While hidden, move into striking range of the strongest target to attack them. If the Phantom takes damage, becoming visible again, attempt to possess the strongest target within reach. Prioritize possessing strong targets to force opponents to damage each other rather than taking damage directly.

Description
Semi-humanoid machines designed to remain by their owner’s side, protecting them from harm. Coming in a variety of menacing, armored forms, a Bodyguard Bot is usually intimidating enough to discourage anyone from harassing their owner.
Tactic
Follow the owner's orders and protect them at any cost. When the owner is threatened, get between the threat and the owner. Depending upon range, use Body Blow or Deployable Shotgun to eliminate threat. If unable to engage the threat, act as a body shield to the owner while attempting to remove them from the area of danger. If able to engage with threat, fight to the death.
In all, BTE Overdrive will feature 25+ new stat blocks for adversaries, with a new adversary type, expanded human-scale opponents, and some rules clarifications regarding on-foot combat.
This concludes our preview of the various expansions and new features that players will be able to use to enhance their games of Beneath Twisted Earth. While much development has gone into this supplement release is still some time away. With the premium versions of the core game slated for Fall 2024, release of BTE Overdrive is currently anticipated for the second half of 2025.
