317 - Chappaquiddick (Patreon Selects)
Tumblr media
This week's episode comes selected by one of our sponsor tier patrons over at our Patreon! The 2017 festival season brought us Chappaquiddick, director John Curran's recounting of the titular incident where Senator Ted Kennedy was responsible in the accidental death of party secretary Mary Jo Kopechne. With Jason Clarke as Kennedy and Kate Mara as Kopechne, the film earned solid festival reviews (with even stronger notices for Clarke) but a planned qualifying release before the end of the year never came to be.
This episode, we talk about the short life of Entertainment Studios Motion Pictures and the 2017 qualifying release for the film that was canceled. We also talk about Clarke's career in grunt roles, the film's frustrating post-script in relation to Ted Kennedy's career, and Bill Crystal's Oscar hosting duties.
Topics also include vague movie titles, TIFF Galas, and Frederica Kimmel's friend.

Walking the WGA and SAG/AFTRA Picket Line at Paramount Studios
On July 20, 2023, I did something I had been meaning to do for a long time: walk the picket line alongside members of the Writer’s Guild of America (WGA) and the Screen Actors Guild – American Federation of Television and Radio Artists (SAG/AFTRA). Both unions are in a furious labor dispute with the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers (AMPTP) as streaming has forever changed the…

Chapter 1: The Costumer's Dance with The King
As Angel Casteel strolled along the winding pathways of the bustling studio, her mind was consumed with a whirlwind of thoughts. Each step she took brought her closer to her latest assignment, igniting a sense of anticipation within her. The air was thick with creative energy, as fellow artists immersed themselves in their respective projects. The vibrant atmosphere seemed to fuel her imagination, as she pondered the task that lay ahead. She found herself transfixed, her gaze locked upon the delicate piece of paper that had been handed to her by the front office. A sense of apprehension coursed through her veins, causing her to momentarily freeze in her tracks. It was in that very moment that the realization struck her like a bolt of lightning, electrifying her every nerve. As fate would have it, she found herself bestowed with a remarkable opportunity - a chance to be a part of the mesmerizing world of Elvis Presley's latest motion picture. The sheer magnitude of this moment was not lost on me, for she was entrusted with the task of personally adorning the legendary icon with his costumes for the big screen. Angel found myself staring at the assignment card in her hands as if hoping to uncover some hidden mistake. As she carefully examined the photograph, her eyes were immediately drawn to the bold letters inscribed on the back. ANGEL CASTEEL. It was as if the air had been violently expelled from her lungs. In that instant, time seemed to stand still, as she struggled to regain her composure. In the grand tapestry of music history, there emerged a man whose brilliance outshone all others - Elvis Presley. With his magnetic charisma and unparalleled talent, he ascended to the pinnacle of stardom, becoming a celestial figure in the realm of entertainment. The world, captivated by his mesmerizing voice and electrifying performances, bestowed upon him the title of the biggest star to ever grace the stage. The weight of his authority hung heavy in the air. Angel knew that one wrong move, one ill-chosen word, could spell disaster for her future in this place. The thought of crossing him sent shivers down her spine. The consequences were clear - a swift and merciless termination, her dreams shattered in an instant. The disapproving whispers of her parents echoed in her mind. The prospect of facing her family, her head held low in defeat, was a bitter pill to swallow. It seemed as though the world was determined to prove her parents right about her ill-fated choice to forgo college and embark on an uncertain journey to the land of dreams. The allure of California, with its promises of opportunity and adventure, had once beckoned her like a siren's call. But now, as reality set in, the weight of her decision pressed heavily upon her conscience.  She felt her body physically tremble at the mere notion of it.
With resolve hardening in her chest, Angel took a deep breath and forced her feet to move forward. She mustered the courage that had brought her from her small town to the heart of Hollywood, reminding herself of the countless nights spent sketching designs by the dim light of her old desk lamp, dreaming of a moment like this.
As she approached the opulent dressing room marked with Elvis Presley's name adorned in glittering gold, her pace slowed. Her hand hovered over the door handle, the cold metal feeling like a threshold to a new world. Taking another steadying breath, Angel pushed the door open.
The room was lavish, befitting a star of Elvis's magnitude. The air was scented with a mix of leather and aftershave, and the walls were lined with mirrors and photographs of famous movie scenes. At the center, seated in front of a vanity mirror, was Elvis himself, his back to her, engrossed in conversation with an old man who appeared to be his manager.
Angel cleared her throat softly, announcing her presence. Elvis turned around, his legendary smile warming the room instantly. “Hey there, darling. You must be the one behind my wardrobe for this film.”
Flustered but thrilled, I shook his outstretched hand, but was unable to make any words spill from my mouth. The old man Elvis had been talking to placed both hands on the top of his cane with a smile that seemed slightly forced. “She’s a pretty one, my boy. Don’t go getting yourself distracted here.”
Elvis glanced back at the man laughing. “Ah, don’t scare her, Colonel.” He turned back to Angel. “Don’t listen to nothin’ the Colonel says. He likes to make jokes. I’m Elvis and this is my manager Colonel Tom Parker. What’s your name, darlin’?”
Angel took a deep breath, her nerves momentarily calmed by the congeniality of Elvis's tone. "I'm Angel Casteel, Mr. Presley," she managed to say, her voice steadier than she felt.
Elvis chuckled softly. "Well, Angel…ain’t that just a fitting name for a beauty like you? And just call me Elvis. Mr. Presley is my Daddy. I ain’t that old yet.”
His laughter was infectious, and Angel found herself smiling, the tension easing from her shoulders.. “You don’t look old at all, Elvis.” His name felt foreign on her lips but she found a strange comfort in it.
“You’re bein’ too nice.” Elvis gestured towards a plush, velvet couch. "Come on over here and show me what you’ve got.”
Angel moved gracefully toward the couch, clutching the portfolio that contained all her carefully crafted designs. As she laid the sketches out on the low coffee table, her hands trembled slightly, betraying her nervous excitement.
Elvis leaned forward, his keen eyes scanning each design with an intensity that made Angel's heart skip a beat. He paused at one of the sketches, a sleek, black leather jacket paired with a high-collar, white silk shirt. "Now, this is something else," he remarked, his voice laced with genuine interest. "Tell me about this one."
Gathering her thoughts, Angel explained, "I wanted to combine traditional rock 'n' roll elements with a touch of modern flair.”
Elvis nodded appreciatively. "I like that. It’s got edge but still classy.”
"I was thinking something vibrant for the dance scenes," Angel said, pointing to a sketch of a shimmering gold jacket. "Something that catches the light and complements your dynamic movements."
Elvis picked up the sketch, his eyes lighting up. “You’ve got a real talent, Angel."
Flushed with pride and relief at his approval, Angel continued to show him other designs, each receiving thoughtful consideration and encouraging words from Elvis. Colonel Parker observed quietly from the side, occasionally interjecting with practical considerations about fabric choices and stage logistics.
As the afternoon wore on, the initial tension that had cocooned Angel upon her entrance gradually dissolved into a comfortable camaraderie. Elvis seemed genuinely interested in her thoughts and ideas, often asking for her opinion on other aspects of his wardrobe beyond the immediate needs of the film. It was a collaborative atmosphere that she had only dreamed of, one where her visions and suggestions were not only heard but respected.
“Angel, you’ve got an eye for this stuff,” Elvis said as he stood up to stretch his legs, “I think we’re gonna make a great team.”
Angel nodded enthusiastically. “I think so too.”
Elvis grinned, clapping her lightly on the shoulder. “Great! Let’s keep this momentum going. Maybe after we wrap up here, we could grab some dinner? There’s a little place not too far from here that makes the best Southern fried chicken you’ll ever taste.”
The casual invitation sent a thrill through Angel’s heart. Dinner with Elvis Presley? The very thought was almost too much to fathom. Hesitantly, she accepted. "That sounds wonderful, Elvis. I'd love to."
Elvis's smile broadened, lighting up his face with a boyish charm that few could resist. "Fantastic! It’s a date then," he said, a playful tone in his voice that made Angel's heart flutter with excitement.
Walking out of the dressing room together felt surreal to Angel. The movie crew, like a swarm of bees, descended upon him, their eager hands guiding him towards the sound stage to finish out the filming for the day. Silently, Angel trailed behind, her eyes fixed on him as he came to a halt. He engaged in conversation with the main actress, the one who portrayed the female lead and served as Elvis's love interest in the film. She stood before him, a vision of beauty. Her face adorned with carefully applied makeup, enhancing her features and accentuating her natural charm. Her luscious blond locks cascaded in perfect curls, framing her face with an air of elegance. Clad in a swimsuit that showcased her long, slender legs, she left little to the imagination. As he flashed a warm smile in her direction, Angel’s heart skipped a beat, and a sudden realization washed over her. It was a truth that had been lurking. Elvis only wanted to be kind. With her jet-black hair and eyes, the color of a moonlit sea, she was nowhere near attractive enough. Her skin was too pale, and her clothing was simply thrift shop finds that suited her well. In the vast expanse of the universe, their souls resided on separate solar systems, as distant from each other as the stars. With a heavy sigh escaping her lips, she trudged forward.
Angel's thoughts churned as she watched Elvis interact with the stunning actress. The way he laughed, the casual touch of his hand on her arm, it all seemed so effortless, so perfect. A pang of jealousy twisted in her stomach, not because she wanted Elvis for herself—she was too practical for such fantasies—but because she feared that their budding professional friendship might suffer from his divided attentions. The stark contrast between their worlds couldn't be more pronounced in her eyes; where he shone brightly, she felt dimmed by her own perceived ordinariness.
Yet, as she lingered by the edges of the bustling set, a soft hand touched her shoulder, startling her from her reverie. It was Elvis, who had extricated himself from the crowd and come over to find her. His smile was still present, but his eyes held a hint of concern. "Hey, you alright?" he asked gently.
Angel forced a smile, nodding unconvincingly. "Yes, just... overwhelmed," she managed to say, gesturing vaguely towards the chaos of the film set.
Elvis's expression softened, a mixture of understanding and empathy crossing his features. "It can get a bit much, huh?" he said, drawing her slightly away from the throng. "But you, Angel, you belong here just as much as anyone else. Look at me. Just a hillbilly who lucked into all this. Most of the time I don’t even really know what I’m doin’.”
His words, warm and sincere, were a balm to her jangled nerves. “You’re doing wonderfully, Elvis. Everyone can see that.” Angel’s voice was soft but firm, her belief in him evident.
Elvis shook his head, his hair brushing against his forehead. "Nah, it's all smoke and mirrors, darlin'.” He chuckled, then his gaze fixed more intently on her. "But you — you’ve got real talent, Angel. Don’t ever doubt that. This stuff,” he gestured broadly to the hubbub surrounding them, “It’s fleeting. But creating something? That’s forever.”
“Thank you, Elvis,” she said, her voice steadier now.
Elvis grinned, the light catching in his eyes in a way that made them sparkle mischievously. “Now, don’t let me keep you from shining today. We’ve got some more scenes to shoot, but how about we meet by the wardrobe when we wrap? Don’t forget about our dinner plans!”
“I won’t,” she promised, feeling the flutter of butterflies in her stomach at the thought of spending more time with him outside of work.
As Elvis headed back toward the set, Angel watched him go, her heart still racing from their interaction.
The rest of the afternoon passed in a blur for Angel. She busied herself with final adjustments to the costumes, her hands moving mechanically as her mind replayed the warmth in Elvis's voice and the sincere look in his eyes. The movie set, usually a place of overwhelming noise and activity, felt strangely muted to her ears, as if she was hearing it all from underwater.
As the hours ticked by, the set began to wind down from the day's hectic schedule. Crew members started cleaning up, actors removed makeup, and the buzz of activity slowly diminished into a quiet hum. Angel tidied up her workspace in the wardrobe department, folding fabrics and organizing her materials meticulously.
As promised, Elvis was waiting for her by the wardrobe racks when she arrived, his presence commanding even in such an ordinary setting. He was dressed casually now, in slacks and a simple button-up shirt that did nothing to hide his charismatic aura. "Ready to go?" he asked with an easy smile.
Angel nodded, feeling a mix of excitement and nervousness. "Absolutely, I just need to grab my things," she replied as she reached for her jacket.
Walking out of the studio together, they found themselves stepping into the cool evening air. The sun was setting, casting a golden glow that seemed almost magical. As they approached Elvis's car, a vintage convertible that gleamed under the fading light, Angel couldn't help but feel like she was stepping into a scene from one of those glamorous old Hollywood films.
Elvis held the passenger door open for her, and as she slid into the soft leather seat, he flashed her a grin that could have melted hearts across continents. "Ever ridden in one of these before?" he asked as he climbed into the driver’s seat.
"No, I can't say I have," Angel replied, her voice slightly shaky with excitement.
Elvis chuckled as he started the engine, the sound rumbling softly beneath them. "Well, you're in for a treat," he said, his eyes twinkling with excitement as he pulled out of the parking lot and onto the open road. The wind began to pick up, sending Angel's hair fluttering around her face, and she laughed, feeling a surge of freedom she hadn't expected.
The drive was filled with a comfortable silence initially, as both seemed content to simply absorb the moment. The landscape blurred past them, a mix of city lights and twilight shadows painting the journey in hues of blues and oranges. Elvis finally broke the silence, his voice thoughtful. "You ever think you would be here in LA?" he asked, glancing her way.
Angel pondered the question, her fingers tracing the leather seam of the seat. “No. I grew up in a one-horse town in Alabama, workin’ as a waitress in the one of the two restaurants the town had. I always wanted somethin’ better, somethin’ different. So instead of savin’ up money to go to college, I saved up money to move to California. My parents thought I was crazy; my friends didn’t really believe in me either.”
“But here I am,” she continued, her voice lifting with a newfound strength. “And every day on that set, even with all its chaos and uncertainty, I’m grateful. Grateful for the chance to be part of something bigger than just serving coffee and pies back home.”
Elvis nodded, his expression a mixture of admiration and understanding. “That’s something we share, you know? I didn’t come from much either. Just a little shotgun house in Tupelo, Mississippi. Most folks thought I’d end up pumping gas or working in the fields.” He smiled softly, his eyes reflecting the streetlights as they passed.
"But here we are, right? Chasing dreams in the city of stars," he continued, his voice tinged with a hint of wonder.
Angel smiled, turning to look at him, the wind still playing with her hair. “Right. I never imagined I'd end up here, and definitely never thought I'd be riding alongside Elvis Presley." Her laugh was light, carefree.
Elvis's smile widened at her words. "I'm glad you're here with me, Angel. It feels like this was supposed to happen. Like it’s part of a bigger plan or somethin’." He turned his gaze back to the road, focusing on the weaving path of headlights before them.
The conversation drifted then to lighter topics — music, favorite movies, and anecdotes from their respective childhoods. Each story shared was a thread that seemed to weave them closer together, bridging the gap between their worlds with laughter and mutual understanding.

A hotly anticipated meeting Friday between the Writers Guild of America and negotiators for Hollywood's biggest studios ended not with a bang but with a whimper, it appears, as both sides confirm that the three-month-long standoff between screenwriters and the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers is set to continue, as will the strike that's left the entertainment industry at a standstill. Friday's meeting, the first between the WGA and the AMPTP since contract negotiations stalled in May, had been greeted with high hopes when it was announced earlier this week. The New York Times reported that conditions for an end to the writers' strike seemed promising, as a back-channel meeting last week between a “handful of executives” and “three members of the guild’s negotiating committee” led execs to believe that “there could be a path to a deal."  Following that shadowy meeting, AMPTP president Carol Lombardini reached out to WGA leaders to schedule Friday's official confab, but even as that news broke, the WGA remained cautious. In a message to members Thursday, the WGA's negotiating committee said that “we won’t prejudge what’s to come, but playbooks die hard. So far, the companies have wasted months on their same failed strategy. They have attempted, time and time again, through anonymous quotes in the media, to use scare tactics, rumors, and lies to weaken our resolve.” Variety reports that the two sides met Friday for about an hour, but that after the WGA stood firm on its expectations regarding “minimum staffing levels in episodic TV and a guaranteed minimum number of weeks of employment,” the conversation fizzled.

Previous Chapter Recap:
Dang, another instagram notification. Maybe Jungkook WAS really into you. You tapped to open the chat again.
gnabnahc: Hey! I know this is random, but if you have any time tomorrow, could you meet me in my studio? I’ll be around in the morning and at lunch after hair & makeup. If you have time of course, I understand if not. I just wanted to talk to you about something.
‘Good fucking God,’ your heart dropped. “Anna… I need you. NOW!” you screamed.
——————————————————————————————————
Y/n’s POV:
Anna quickly bolted into the bathroom, thinking you’d accidentally cut yourself shaving or something. She was determined not to let you bleed out. Med student to the rescue!
When she arrived, she was surprised to see you totally fine, but also totally naked, sitting on the lid of the toilet.
Okay… WHY?” She looked down at you, eyebrows raised.
“Just come here,” you motioned for her with your arm. You extended your phone out for her to grab it.
“This is some Hollywood movie shit,” she laughed, handing the phone back to you.
“This isn’t funny!” you exclaimed. “What in the hell am I supposed to do?”
“Well do you want to see him?”
“Duh.”
“Then you’re going to find a way to see him. Just tell him you can’t in the morning and that you can late into lunch.”
“Yeah, only one problem. I’m supposed to be meeting Jungkook for lunch,” you rolled your eyes, now wondering if she had paid attention at all to your prior conversation.
“Okay, so tell Jungkook beforehand that you don’t have much time because of your schedule, and then go meet Chan. Who says you can’t have it all?” she grinned, raising one eyebrow.
‘Okay, good plan. Solid plan,’ you thought. ‘Unless…’
“Okay but I don’t know how close Chan & JK are. What if JK is telling him that we’re getting lunch together? Then I just look like a two-timing bitch.”
“Alright, and how do you know that JK hasn’t already told him and Chan is going behind his back?” ‘Ain’t no way he’d do that,’ you thought. “I’m just saying, in all of your time with Chan, he never once mentioned JK. In all of our time with Changbin and Felix, they never brought him up either. I honestly don’t think they’re that close. Both of their fandoms would have figured it out by now if they are.”
‘Alright, let’s look,’ you thought, pulling your phone in front of your face again. You went to “X” (you still couldn’t get used to calling it that instead of Twitter) and typed in “jungkook bangchan”. Surely the detectives on here would know a thing or two. You scrolled and scrolled. A few tweets about the same thing- the 97 liners grabbing dinner together, but it was more than just the two of them. Not a single picture of them together otherwise. Not a story about seeing them together either. Maybe Anna had a point.
“Fuck it, I’m gonna do it,” you said, not knowing where your newfound confidence came from. Anna started giggling and took a quick seat beside you on the edge of the hotel’s bathtub.
Your fingers began to type quickly, not allowing yourself time to think. Or rather, overthink.
Hey Chris! I could stop by late after lunch? I’m not sure of a specific time yet, but I can text you later when I find out?
Send.
“Okay, it’s done,” you breathed out… You sat there for a moment, absorbing all of the feelings and trying to get the nerves out.
“Pinch me,” you said to Anna with a huff coming out from your bottom lip.
She reached over, laughing, nipping you in the arm. “I’m so happy for you I could cry,” she continued, keeping that same big smile on her face. “Butttt,” she leaned in closer and began to whisper, “whoever you don’t take, just remember I’m single.” She winked and you started to laugh, pushing her away.
“Whatever,” you said jokingly. “BUT I have to shower. Now I have two guys to impress.”
——————————————
Chan’s POV:
‘It’s alright Chris, don’t be nervous,’ he thought to himself, still planted in his studio chair. ‘The worst she can say is no. Well I guess she could laugh at it and tell all of her friends that you’re whipped. In which case, you’re fucked. But she wouldn’t do that, right?’
Chan’s mind got the best of him and he decided to start pacing. He needed to get his mind on something else… but what? His new song! Yes, his new song. He had been working on a hook and just couldn’t figure out where he wanted to go with it. ‘I need Jisung,’ he thought. He sent a quick text his way to see if he was busy. He couldn’t help but to re-read the message he had sent you. He clicked on your profile to view all of the pictures. Your dogs, your friends, your birthday party. He pictured what he would look like included in each photo. He let his mind wonder, looking at one photo in particular. You had been at the beach. He didn’t stick to that photo because of anything you were wearing. You were fully clothed. There was just something about it. The way your smile was lit up like you had not a worry in the world. The way the sun cast a golden color all over your beautiful face. The fact that the beach was Chan’s favorite. He thought about what it would be like to be there with you. Walking along the shore, getting to know you better. What was your family like? How did you like your eggs cooked? Where was your favorite place in the world? He let himself get lost in the scenario.
*BUZZ*
Your instagram username flashed across the top of his screen. He clicked as soon as he possibly could.
Y/n’s Instagram username:
Hey Chris! I could stop by late after lunch? I’m not sure of a specific time yet, but I can text you later when I find out?
‘Yes Chris, Yes! See, it was just a rumor. A dumb rumor. I mean JK would have told you since you were the reason they had met. He couldn’t possibly be that into her after meeting her for 2 minutes. You worried for no reason.’ He was elated. Ecstatic even. He looked down to his phone, stupid grin on his face.
‘Felix, you’re fucking dead for giving me a heart attack like that,’ he thought.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
The little shit quit responding. ‘He’s got about 4 hours to text back before I get home and jump him.’ Chan thought. He sunk down into his chair. All of his excitement was now replaced with confusion. This was gonna be a longggg night in the studio.
——————————————————————
Felix’s POV:
“SUCK ON THAT!” Felix screamed sarcastically. He had spent the last 2 hours plopped on the couch next to Changbin. They made it a point to get together once a week, no matter how busy, to play a few video games together. Today’s choice: League. Felix lowkey kinda sucked, and he knew that. But he didn’t care because Binnie sucked even more.
“No, you suck on this,” Changbin yelled back, putting Felix in a headlock and giving him a noogie.
“Ah! Ah! Ahhhhh!” Felix screamed for help, trying not to die laughing. “Someone help me!” he yelled, while grabbing at Changbin’s arms to rip him off. It was no use. No matter how much Felix flailed his body and thrashed left and right, Changbin’s hold was even tighter. Eventually, he ran out of energy and decided to just lie there. Changbin released him right after.
“So you admit defeat,” Changbin raised his eyebrow. Felix had a dazed look on his face, hair fluffed up from Bin’s relentless hand movements. He was just grappling for his breath back at this point.
“I’ll take that as a yes! Yay, next round!” Changbin said enthusiastically, turning back around to the tv.
‘Brain need oxygen. Can’t form word,’ Felix thought to himself. ‘Lol I can’t believe I just thought that. Felix you so silly.’ He smiled and focused his attention on the tv now too. Well, for a split second. Until Chan came barging in.
“Felix!” he called, like he was a tornado coming through the front door. He walked a few paces before setting foot into the living room. Felix just looked up with a puzzled expression on his face.
“Mate! Why did you do that?!” He walked over and snatched Felix’s controller from his hand.
“Damn, if you wanted to play, you just had to ask!” Felix said back seriously. You could see the annoyance growing louder on Chan’s face.
“Oh my gosh Felix. Your text, cunt!”
“My… OHHH my text,” he smirked while (horribly) trying to look inconspicuous.
“You better tell me what you know right now,” Chan threw his fist down. He was trying to “act” mad, but honestly he was really bad at acting. He actually was mad.
“I don’t know anything,” Felix smirked again. “I swearrrr. Don’t you trust me?” He smiled, squinting his eyes up at Chan with a suggestive look on his face.
“No I don’t, you little shit! Now tell me what you know!”
“Never!” Felix pouted.
“Tell me!”
“NO!”
“Tell me!”
“NOOO!”
“I will break this controller, don’t try me!”
“No you won’t.”
“Yes I will.”
“No you won’ttttt.”
“Yes I will.”
“Bet, do it then.”
Chan lifted the controller in the air and huffed out... “You’re right, I won’t.” He reached it back down to Felix.
Felix, now satisfied, took the controller and happily bobbed his head from side to side. “Thanks Channie-hyung!” he teased.
“Fuck off,” Chan retorted. ‘I hate being a father,’ Chan thought as he turned around to storm out. Once he was out the door, Changbin turned his body around to Felix.
“What don’t you know anything about?” Chanbin laughed.
“Wouldn’t you like to know?” Felix said with a flirty smile. “All I’m saying is it involved your mentee. That’s all, can’t talk about it anymore! New game, let’s go!” Felix avoided Changbin’s stares at all cost, fixating on the tv. Eventually Bin turned around to face it too, continuing on like nothing ever happened.
‘Fuck, that was close. Felix baby, you’ve gotta stop being so messy… Lmao who am I kidding, I love this shit.’
———————————————————————————————
Y/n’s POV: The next day
You arrived to the JYP building 10 minutes early to your professionalism training. You knew you would be able to see the finalized schedule first thing when you got there. All you knew so far was professionalism training at 9, hair and makeup, lunch, and begin shooting intros for the show. You had no clue how long each would take though.
You ran up in front of the big bulletin board posted outside of the conference room. You saw the agenda:
• 9:00 AM- Professionalism Training; Level 5 conference room
• 11:00 AM - 2:00 PM- Hair and Makeup; Level 7 shooting room; See list below for names and scheduled times
• 11:00 AM - 2:00 PM- Lunch break
• 2:00 PM- Shooting program material with mentors; Level 10 shooting rooms #1-5
• 8:00 PM- Dinner and drinks at Nine Mile Restaurant (see email for location and directions)
You quickly scrolled through the list of names below to see when you’d be scheduled for hair & makeup:
• Y/l/n, y/f/n: 11:00 AM
‘Fuck yeah,’ you thought. ‘Getting hair and makeup done first. It shouldn’t take over an hour, right? Surely not. They have new people scheduled for 12 and 1, so yeah, you’re good. No more than an hour.’ You quickly took your phone out to send a message to the 2 boys waiting to hear back from you.

Hey, I should be good to go around noon today. Do you still want to meet me outside the JYP building?
SEND.
To: gnabnahc
I could meet you around 1-1:30 today? Does that work for you?
You let out a hot breath and headed into the conference room. There, you found Anna who had already walked in while you told her you’d check for both your names on the bulletin board. You saw a couple of other girls you had met as well through the night with Stray Kids. They were Seungmin and Han’s mentees. You had all instantly connected that night and you were excited to spend more time with them.
Once you were settled in, you gave into the gossip that everyone was discussing.
“Yeah, I heard her dad works for JYPE high up in marketing and that’s how she got in,” Sunnie whispered to the group.
“OMG I heard that too!” Anna bounced up and down. “I’m not even sure where I heard it from.”
“Literally same. I also heard that one of the new cast members was,” Kara leaned down low, “hooking up with Jungkook,” she giggled. You had to physically stop yourself from your jaw dropping on the floor. You were not SLEEPING with Jungkook. You hadn’t even had fucking lunch with him yet!
“OMG who?!” Sunnie questioned.
“I don’t know, it’s just what I heard some of the other girls saying. I don’t think anyone knows,” Kara added. “Which meanssss, we’re gonna have to keep an eye out for Jeon Jungkook ladies. See who the culprit is,” she laughed.
You and Anna looked at each other, trying to fake a laugh right along with them. You were sure she could see the panic in your eyes.
Suddenly, you heard a voice come over the speakers and the lights began to dim. ‘Let’s get this training over with.’
———— 3 hours later ————
Abcdefghi__lmnopqrstuvwxyz: Out front waiting on you :) I’ve got on a black mask and baseball cap in case you don’t recognize me. That’s kind of the point haha
y/n: On my way down!
Your nerves were starting to get to you, but you tied them down. This was just two people getting lunch after all. That’s literally it. Plus, why would you be nervous anyway? You were the one that made a great first impression anyway. He was the one who had something to prove.
Plus, not to brag, but you looked damn good. The hair and and makeup department definitely knows what they’re doing.
*DING*
You arrived at the ground floor and quickly made your way out of the main exit. You scanned your head first to the right, looking for a black cap, then to the left. The problem was… There were like 10 of them.
‘Fucking hell, why does everyone have to dress the same?’ you thought. You wondered off to the left, seeing if you could get a better look. Suddenly, a black figure appeared next to you. You turned to see a bright-eyed Jungkook, mask covering the lower half of his face, stood straight and proud with the most beautiful bouquet you’d ever seen. Pinks, purples, blues, greens. All of your favorite colors incorporated into one. Was this a sign?
“Y/n! Hi! I brought these for you,” you couldn’t see his mouth, but by how scrunched up his eyes got, you assumed he was smiling.
“Oh my goodness, they’re beautiful! You didn’t have to do that!” You smiled up at him and went in for a side hug. Surprisingly, it wasn’t even awkward. Jungkook just gave off such a charming, confident vibe.
“I wanted to. I saw them and automatically thought of you.” You blushed down into the bouquet you were now holding.
“You’re too sweet,” you flashed the biggest grin. ‘Okay, so maybe he’s better than I thought.’ “Where do you want to go?”
“How do you feel about bibimbap?”
“I love it!” You’d only had it once, but you assumed you’d still love it. “But just so you know, I really don’t have that much time today. I need to try to be back in an hour or so.”
“I completely understand. I’m just happy you could pencil some time in for me,” his hand grazed the side of yours, sending a shock up your arm. “I was gonna say that my favorite bibimbap place is right around the corner and I’d love to take you there.”
“Sounds good to me! Let’s go!”
He had a smile painted across his face looking down at you with the pretty flowers in your hand. You were just as beautiful as he remembered. “Follow me. And hold on to me if you need to. Wouldn’t want you getting lost in this crowd,” he chuckled, giving you a wink.
Your heart fluttered. Why was it fluttering?
Jungkook turned to lead you around the street. It was pretty packed, but what else would you expect in the middle of Seoul at lunch time. You could tell that JK was looking down slightly, making sure he didn’t get recognized. You ended up actually reaching to hold onto the back of his coat to make sure you didn’t get separated. You weren’t about to fight your way through the crowd to get a view of every Korean man currently wearing a black coat, hat, and mask. It would take all day.
You both made your way down the busy street, finally able to squeeze next to each other and talk about how your day was going so far. You know, all the basic boring stuff that you had to get out of the way. You soon reached a set of narrow, tall stairs almost hidden away.
“This way,” Jungkook said, taking the first step up. You looked down to see how tall the stairs were and mannnn you thought you were going to have to catapult yourself up.
Jungkook saw the hesitancy in your eyes and quickly leaned the upper half of his body down, holding one hand out for you to grab onto. You graciously took it, as he slowly ascended, making sure you followed him every step of the way. Once you reached the top, you finally jumped up onto the platform of the restaurant, now pressed right up to JK. He still had your hand in his.
“Nice job for a first timer,” he joked, squeezing your hand before he gently put it down and let it go. It was one of the most tender things you’d ever felt. He was handling you with such care.
You followed him as he walked a few steps to the door. He opened it for you and let you step inside first. Your eyes took a moment to focus as you acclimated to the new atmosphere. ‘It’s dark…’ you thought to yourself, eyes now tuning in. ‘And damn, it’s NICE.’ You looked around the the swanky bar to the left, wall topped off with liquors you kne you’d never afford in your lifetime- even on a doctor’s salary. Black tablecloths covered each table, with booths being tucked away into walls. Candles were the main source of the lighting and made for a seductive atmosphere.
“Hello, I had a reservation for Jeon Jungkook,” JK told the host at the stand on the right. She was beautiful, in formal all black attire and long, black hair.
“Of course. Right this way,” she stepped out from behind her podium and led you both to a booth at the far back of the restaurant. It was tucked out of the way, no other tables reaching beyond it. No one would have a reason to walk this way unless delivering food to the table directly.
“Will this do?” she looked to Jungkook.
“It’s perfect, thank you,” he smiled as she left.
“Here, let me help you,” he reached out to you, gently taking your flowers and setting them on the far side of one of the booth’s benches. He walked behind you to grab onto one arm of your coat, allowing you to slip out easily. He held onto the coat and placed it next to the flowers.
“Watch out, it’s a step up,” he said, reaching for your hand. What is up with all these steps?
You looked into his eyes, silently thanking him for the thoughtfulness, while taking his hand. He led you over the two steps to the table and held tightly as you took the step up and over. Once you were settled in, he looked satisfied and took his place on the opposite side.
The rest of the meal was a whirlwind. You learned so many things about him. First, that he is an absolute devourer of bibimbap. Second, that he was actually really funny and down to earth… Charming too, but were you really going to admit that? Third, he actually had a super cute, bunny-like smile that popped up every time he caught you staring at him for too long.
You actually got along very well. ‘What a pleasant surprise,’ you thought. Conversation was just so easy with him. Maybe you didn’t get into the deep stuff with him like you did with Chan, but so what? This was only lunch. What did you expect him to do, give you his entire life story? He oozed confidence and playfulness, something you were envious of. Maybe, after more time with him, you thought you could learn to have those qualities as well.
You were both laughing over a story of how you accidentally cursed at someone in Korean on your second day here when all of a sudden, your phone lit up. 1:02 PM. Dang, it went by that fast?
“I think I’m running out of time,” you looked down with puppy dog eyes, motioning him to look at your phone.
“Awww, it’s alright. We better get you back on time though. The last thing I need is someone from JYP on my ass,” he laughed.
A small laugh left your mouth too as you both moved to exit the booth. He helped you put your coat back on and placed the flowers back into your hands. He grabbed 3 bills of 50,000 won out of his wallet, and placed it on top of the bill on the table. ‘Damn, this man’s a good tipper.’
“Here,” you scrambled to grab your own wallet out of your coat pocket. “At least let me pay half,” you started to take some money out.
“No, no y/n,” he grasped onto your forearm for a short moment. “Put your money up. Please. It’s on me.”
“Are you sure? I promise I don’t mind one bit to pay. Let me just-“ you stopped talking as you watched his eyebrows lift and his eyes get wide, small grin on his face as if saying “watch yourself now.” He was still holding tightly to your arm, not letting you lift it.
“Okay, okay,” you smiled, putting your wallet away. “But I owe you!”
He smiled at that. “Come on, let’s get you back.”
——————————————————
Chan’s POV:
He had been a nervous wreck thinking about seeing you. Thinking about what he should say in order for you to be interested in him. He knew through your messages to him that you’d be there closer to 1:15, so he made sure he’d get back in time.
He tried to calm his nerves by going out to grab an iced tea really quickly at a local shop. He couldn’t stomach any food- not right now. Once he finally got the chilly beverage in his hands, he walked his way back out into the cold. Only a couple minute walk from the company building.
‘Alright Chris, pull yourself together. Whatever you say, she’s gonna understand. She’s great, so of course she’s gonna understand. She may even be just as nervous as you, you never know.’ He let his mind wonder. He started to picture a scenario. One of you seated next to him in his studio. He had finally worked up the courage to ask you on a date- a proper date. Maybe he jumbled up the words a little bit, but you found it endearing. You nodded your head excitedly, saying how you’d love to go on a date with him. He would take you somewhere nice, somewhere you would get dressed up for him. You’d drink red wine and talk about anything and everything- what you loved and what your passions were. Your eyes would have a certain sparkle that only happened when you looked at him. By the end of the date, you’d be asking when you could see him again. He’d hold your hand, your warm little hand, as you left to say your goodbyes.
As wonderful as the daydream was, Chan suddenly snapped out of it. He froze, standing rigid, then almost tumbling back. There’s no way.
There you stood in front of him. With all the beauty that you were. But you were with someone. A man. Chan squinted to see what he could make out. Jungkook? Fuck, that was definitely Jungkook.
You were smiling up at him and clung onto him for a long hug. He gave in, leaning his head down to plant a small kiss on the top of your forehead. You giggled, waved goodbye, then ran inside the company building.
With that, Chan felt his heart shatter for the very first time.
Through the building’s glass walls, he watched as you made your way a little further, then stopped to bring your phone out. 10 seconds later, he felt a buzz from his phone

Hey, I’m here :) Should I head on up to you?
He wanted to cry.

The first Oscars. Photo: Courtesy Margaret Herrick Library, Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences The Academy Museum of Motion Pictures in Los Angeles announced on Monday that it will make changes to its new exhibit about the Jewish roots of the Hollywood film industry after it was criticized by Jewish activists and members of the entertainment industry. The museum said in a statement to the The Hollywood Reporter that it “heard the concerns from members of the Jewish community,” takes the concerns “seriously,” and is ”committed to making changes to the exhibition to address them.” “We will be implementing the first set of changes immediately — they will allow us to tell these important stories without using phrasing that may unintentionally reinforce stereotypes. This will also help to eliminate any ambiguities,” the museum added, before stating that it is “convening an advisory group of experts from leading museums focused on the Jewish community, civil rights, and the history of other marginalized groups to advise us on complex questions about context and any necessary additions to the exhibition’s narrative.” “We are deeply committed to telling these important stories in an honest, respectful, and impactful way,” the museum said in conclusion. The Academy Museum of Motion Pictures opened on May 19 its first permanent exhibition, titled “Hollywoodland: Jewish Founders and the Making of a Movie Capital.” The exhibit highlights the “Jewish founders of the Hollywood studio system” and “tells the origin story of filmmaking in early 20th-century Los Angeles, spotlighting the impact of the predominately Jewish filmmakers whose establishment of the American film studio system transformed Los Angeles into a global epicenter of cinema.” Jewish activists and members of the film and television industry criticized the exhibit for its negative portrayal of Jewish studio founders and filmmakers, claiming that the exhibit focused more on their flaws than their achievements. The critics accused the exhibit of promoting “antisemitic tropes” and attacked the museum for describing the Jewish filmmakers with words like “oppressive,” “harmful,” “predator,” and “tyrant.” The museum announced changes to “Hollywoodland” on Monday before an open letter published by a group called United Jewish Writers further condemned the exhibit. “While we acknowledge the value in confronting Hollywood’s problematic past, the despicable double standard of the ‘Jewish Founders’ exhibit, blaming only the Jews for that problematic past, is unacceptable and, whether intentional or not, antisemitic,” read the open letter. “We call on the Academy Museum to thoroughly redo this exhibit so that it celebrates the Jewish founders of Hollywood with the same respect and enthusiasm granted to those celebrated throughout the rest of the museum.” United Jewish Writers also claimed that the exhibit is “the only section of the museum that vilifies those it purports to celebrate.” The open letter was signed by more than 300 Jewish members of the entertainment industry, including actor David Schwimmer and showrunner Amy Sherman-Palladino.
Maybe this time, have some movie-loving, non-Jew-hating, non-ideologues do the writing. And don't forget that originally, the Jewish founders of Hollywood were completely left out of the Museum's story.

Recently Viewed: Head
Tumblr media
Star vehicles for musicians are hardly a rarity in Hollywood—after all, creatively bankrupt studio executives are perfectly willing to exploit pretty much any intellectual property that might be marketable, artistic integrity be damned—but even within that niche genre, Head stands out. Whereas A Hard Day’s Night (The Beatles) and True Stories (Talking Heads frontman David Byrne) are ultimately sincere and earnest despite their surface-level whimsy, the motion picture “adaptation”—more like antithesis!—of popular sitcom The Monkees is deeply cynical beneath its absurdist humor and psychedelic visuals, mercilessly deconstructing the superficiality of the entertainment industry, the elusive (and illusive) nature of the American Dream, and the manufactured public image of the band around which it revolves (exemplified by such sanitized, inoffensive lyrics as, “We’re too busy singing to put anybody down”).
The satire is as caustic as it is deliberately unsubtle. In an early scene, Micky Dolenz stumbles across a Coca-Cola vending machine in the middle of a barren desert—a condemnation of rampant commercialism and mindless consumerism that is subsequently reinforced by a rapidly edited montage of roadside billboard advertisements. Later, Peter Tork briefly breaks character mid-take to fret about how slapping a woman, even within the context of his work as an actor, might damage his reputation (“The kids won’t dig it, man!” he complains to the indifferent director)—lampooning the inherent egotism of celebrity. In the movie’s most scathing sequence, a concert is intercut with archival footage of the Vietnam War; as the performance ends, the frenzied audience storms the stage and literally tears the group apart—exposing them as nothing more than hollow mannequins. The medium itself can barely contain the filmmakers’ moral outrage: metafictional conflicts frequently disrupt the narrative; flashbacks within interludes within digressions overlap and interweave, making the “plot” borderline indecipherable. It can only be summarized in terms of its individual episodes and the loose thematic associations between them—which is akin to trying to explain a fever dream (or a drug-induced hallucination) to your pet cat.
Tumblr media
Featuring cameo appearances by Jack Nicholson, Frank Zappa, and Timothy Carey and punctuated by stylistic flourishes that anticipate such cinematic classics as Raging Bull and Skyfall (no, seriously), Head is a fascinating countercultural artifact. Even amongst its New Wave contemporaries, it remains defiantly unconventional, incomprehensible, and unclassifiable; it must be experienced firsthand to be properly understood—though your mileage may vary in that regard.

A Fairy Tale Rabbit Hole
Tumblr media
Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs is the movie that it started it all for Disney Animation and it's the most influential fairy tale movie ever. Its tropes and its tone still inspires fairy tale media to this day, either as parodies, or homages.
But what less people know is that Walt Disney was inspired to make this movie because of a peculiar silent movie that he watched when he was a teenager.
That movie was Snow White from 1916. Its writer, Winthrop Ames, adapted it from his own Broadway play. An example of American fairy tale theater.
Tumblr media
This kept me thinking.
The Wizard of Oz is one of the most iconic fantasy films of all time, and it was made in direct response to Snow White. What people don't know is that the scene where Glinda saves the gang from the deadly poppies with a snowstorm came straight from a fairy tale musical from 1902. It came from The Wizard of Oz, a fairy tale musical "extravaganza", with direct input from L. Frank Baum, only two years after the original novel.
Tumblr media
Actually, stage musicals seem to take a slight part in the creation of Oz. The Marvellous Land of Oz, the sequel, seems to be inspired by this stage culture. General Jinjur and her army dresses like chorus girls, Ozma/Tip may be inspired by the crossdressing in children roles, and this was the book's dedication:
"To those excellent good fellows and comedians David C. Montgomery and Frank A. Stone whose clever personations of the Tin Woodman and the Scarecrow have delighted thousands of children throughout the land, this book is gratefully dedicated by THE AUTHOR"
These were actors of the 1902 stage show.
Tumblr media
Two years later, on 1904 Peter and Wendy premiered. This play is also one of the most famous children stories ever. Walt Disney himself acted as Peter in a local production of it and Tinkerbell quickly became a mascot for the studio.
Tumblr media
This all led me to think more about fairy tale theater specifically.
Since the ending of the 18th century and through the 19th century, a genre of stage show developed through Europe. It was mostly comedic and light-hearted, mainly inspired by fairy tales, and it was geared towards children and families. It involved lavish fantasy spectacles told through operas, ballets, and what we today would call "musical theater".
It had many different names and variations depending on the country.
On England, it evolved through the pantomimes and it became a Christmas tradition.
Tumblr media
In Russian, it was mainly through ballet, called the ballet-féerie, often considered a lower-class, more commercialized entertainment than traditional ballet. Tchaikovsky's Sleeping Beauty and The Nutcracker are among some of them. Sleeping Beauty would later inspire Disney's telling of the story.
Tumblr media
In France they were called Féerie, and it was a mix of music, dancing, pantomime, acrobatics, and stage effects. It influenced the development of burlesque, musical comedy and film.
Tumblr media
From Wikipedia:
With his 1899 film version of Cinderella, Georges Méliès brought the féerie into the newly developing world of motion pictures. The féerie quickly became one of film's most popular and lavishly mounted genres in the early years of the twentieth century, with such pioneers as Edwin S. Porter, Cecil Hepworth, Ferdinand Zecca, and Albert Capellani contributing fairy-tale adaptations in the féerie style or filming versions of popular stage féeries like Le Pied de mouton, Les Sept Châteaux du diable, and La Biche au bois. The leader in the genre, however, remained Méliès,[37] who designed many of his major films as féeries and whose work as a whole is intensely suffused with the genre's influence.[38]
Tumblr media
Once you realize a huge chunk of fairy tale media has roots in family friendly stage shows from 19th century, a lot of it started making sense.
The focus on romance, the focus on damsels in distress, prevalence of lighter tones, the everlasting connection to music and dance.
They may be the main reason why some fairy tales are more famous than others. Some became source material for a continuous stream of operas, operettas, musical extravaganzas, ballets, plays, and others simply not.
And besides the Victorian Era storybooks that bowdlerized fairy tales for children, I think this whole genre of the theater was responsible to firmly establish fairy tales as a child friendly media, decades before Disney ever released Snow White to cash in that nostalgia.
Tumblr media
If you have something to add or if I just got something wrong, feel free to correct me.

"Disney wasn't an antisemite"
Uh you sure you wanna die on that hill?
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
How about we ask the Jewish Press what they think
Actress Meryl Streep reignited a debate that has simmered below the surface in Hollywood for decades: Was Walt Disney anti-Semitic?
The occasion was the annual awards event of the National Board of Review, an organization of filmmakers, students, and movie scholars. Streep presented an award to Emma Thompson, for her role in the new movie “Saving Mr. Banks,” about the making of the 1964 Disney film “Mary Poppins.” Thompson co-stars as Poppins author P.L. Travers, alongside Tom Hanks as Walt Disney.
Streep took the opportunity to blast Disney as racist and misogynist who also “supported an anti-Semitic industry lobbying group.”
She did not actually call Disney an anti-Semite, but many people took it that way. The Hollywood Reporter declared that Streep accused Disney of being “sexist, racist and anti-Semitic.” Film professor David Hajdu said Disney was “a deeply flawed human being. A misogynist? You bet. An anti-Semite? That, too.” An unnamed “female Academy member” interviewed by the Reporter referred to him as “that old anti-Semite, himself, Mr. Disney.”
Hollywood historian Neal Gabler examined the anti-Semitism charge in his 2006 biography of Disney. “Of the Jews who worked [with Disney], it was hard to find any who thought Walt was an anti-Semite,” Gabler reported. “Joe Grant, who had been an artist, the head of the model department, and the storyman responsible for Dumbo… declared emphatically that Walt was not an anti-Semite. ‘Some of the most influential people at the studio were Jewish,’ Grant recalled, thinking no doubt of himself, production manager Harry Tytle, and Kay Kamen [head of Disney’s merchandising arm], who once quipped that Disney’s New York office had more Jews than the Book of Leviticus. Maurice Rapf concurred that Walt was not anti-Semitic; he was just a ‘very conservative guy.’ ”
On the other hand, one former Disney animator, David Swift, has claimed he heard Walt make an anti-Semitic remark, and another ex-staffer, David Hilberman, has alleged that one employee was fired because he was Jewish. (However, according to Gabler, Disney himself was rarely involved in firing anyone except the top brass). In addition, the original animated version of the “Three Little Pigs” portrayed the Big Bad Wolf as a stereotypically Jewish peddler, although after complaints, the segment was altered.
When it comes to explicit proof that Disney was anti-Semitic, the critics’ case weakens.
“There is zero hard evidence that Disney ever wrote or said anything anti-Semitic in private or public,” according to Douglas Brode, author of Multiculturalism and the Mouse: Race and Sex in Disney Entertainment. Brode told The Hollywood Reporter that Disney used more Jewish actors “than any other studio of Hollywood’s golden age, including those run by Jewish movie moguls.”
Gabler also revealed that Disney “frequently” made unpublicized donations to a variety of Jewish charities, including a Jewish orphanage, a Jewish old age home, Yeshiva College (precursor to Yeshiva University), and the American League for a Free Palestine. The League, better known as the Bergson Group, publicly supported the armed revolt against the British in Palestine by Menachem Begin’s Irgun Zvai Leumi. Disney was embracing not just Zionism, but its most militant wing.
How, then, did the rumors of Disney’s alleged anti-Semitism spread so far and wide?
That’s where Meryl Streep comes in. The “anti-Semitic industry lobbying group” with which Disney was associated was the Motion Picture Alliance for the Preservation of American Ideals. The group’s statement of principles said nothing about Jews; its declared purpose was to prevent “Communist, Fascist, and other totalitarian-minded groups” from gaining a foothold in Hollywood. Among its members were politically conservative actors such as John Wayne, Clark Gable, and Ginger Rogers. But some of its other members were accused of being privately anti-Semitic, and in general it had a reputation as being reactionary.
Gabler believes that “the most plausible explanation” for the rumors about Disney were a kind of guilt by association: “Walt, in joining forces with the MPA and its band of professional reactionaries and red-baiters, also got tarred with their anti-Semitism. Walt Disney certainly was aware of the MPA’s purported anti-Semitism, but he chose to ignore it…. The price he paid was that he would always be lumped not only with anti-Communists but also with anti-Semites.”
The irony is that while Meryl Streep was condemning Walt Disney for associating with extremists, she herself was doing the very same thing. The actress to whom she gave that award when she made her anti-Disney speech, her close friend Emma Thompson, is active in the anti-Israel boycott movement.
Streep hailed Thompson as “splendid, beautiful, practically a saint…a living, acting conscience.” Yet this “saint,” together with other British actors, publicly urged a boycott of Israel’s Habimah theater troupe when it participated in a festival in England. Habimah, of course, has nothing to do with Israeli government policies or any political issues. Its only “crime” is that it’s Israeli.
By contrast, Thompson had no problem with the National Theater of China taking part in that festival, even though it really does represent the Chinese regime – a regime guilty of the most heinous human rights violations, aid to terrorists around the world, and support for the genocidal government of Sudan. But of course, hypocrisy is the hallmark of the “saints” of the anti-Israel boycott crusade. ______________________
The Antisemitism claim is literally communist propaganda.

FNAF Fan-made | Five Night's at The Owl House Studio and Entertainment | AU
Tumblr media
"Five Night’s at The Owl House Studio and Entertainment" abbreviated, "FNaTOHS&E" is a Five Night’s at Freddy’s inspired Universe between The Owl House. The concept of this is, instead of voice actors- the series is filmed with animatronics and certain props.
Location's Within The Owl House Studio Universe
The Owl House Studio and Entertainment (2016-2020)
The Owl House Studio and Entertainment Facility, or also just known as, The Owl House Studio and Entertainment, is a Animated Television Filming Studio, mixed with children entertainment. It is built and station in Obion County, Union City, Tennessee. The Primary mascot and figurehead of The Owl House Studio and Entertainment is Luz Noceda, accompanied by her showmates, consisting of Hunter, King Clawthorne, and Amity Blight.
When the drawing board was being done, the Company was originally going to be a Diner or an Adventure Park. The ideal spark of becoming an Animated Television Studio business came a little time later when the founder- James Summers, realized how many diner places already have animatronics.
Coming up with the designs of the four main animatronics (Luz Noceda, Amity Blight, Hunter, and London). Early iteration of Luz Noceda was created and designed to help with the development of the programming and coding- London (King's early iteration) was soon canceled from the project and a new design counterpart was created; soon to be King.
James partnered up with his college classmate Nathan Carpenter, who was an robotic engineer - which is the inspiration, Mr. Summers got the idea of Amity becoming an "Abomination Engineer" in the epilogue.
James and Natan made a public account where they would publish their storyboards and short videos of storyboard-drawn motion pictures. Within a half-a-year; 1994, Walt Disney Animation Studios caught wind of the storyboards and grew interested in their idea of creating a series. A contract built and signed by both sides; starting a partnership and a way to build their project. Walt Disney Animation Studios gave Mr. Summers and Hayden a 'Business Starting Fund' to begin construction of the Studio.
James and Nathan both lived in Pigeon Forge, Tennessee which they both believed was too small to start their business, after a few months searching for suitable cities to move to, they discovered Union City. The City Mayor agreed to having their company built in his/her city, signing an agreement and a contract with the city. in mid 1995, the two families moved to Union City, Tennessee to start construction of the 48-acre building.
The blueprints of the Studio ended up being a single-story, with four separate buildings: the first building being the Main Building- which has, the Main Entrance Lobby, a Snack/Food Bar, an Electric Room, a Prize Room, two Arcade Halls, a few restrooms, the Security Office, a Parts and Service Room, The Editing/Revising Lab, and the Main Recording Set Area. The Second building being the Secondary Animatronic Containment Storage- which would store all the other animatronics which are 'minor' characters of the series. The third building being the Supply/Containment Storage and Loading Dock Section- which would be where all the props, merchandise, and even frozen foods would be stored properly; along with where the delivery trucks would drop off the supplies. The fourth and final building would be a bit smaller than the other buildings; which would be the Workshop. This is where Mr. Summers and Mr. Carpenter would brainstorm new studio ideas and storyboard them for the Animatronics to perform the scenes.
The Animatronics are also known to have their own rooms - which is down a secret hall that only the Staff, employee's and the Animatronics are known to. The hall is called "The Lounge Hall".
When the studio was starting up and beginning production, Nathan Carpenter hired her sister-in-law; Kailey Lakewood, to become the Animatronic Chief Officer- which she would be in charge of the Animatronics and in charge of putting in service orders for the Animatronics. Throughout college, Kailey was obsessed with the thought of the paranormal, and even possession activity. Working around Animatronics, it sparked her interest back up and she producted an "experience" to extract an substance what is called "remnant" which created from agony from an individual. This is the motion to her act of the "Four Missing Children Incident".
Events soon followed behind from Kailey's act. From "The Bite of 2019", to the Paranormal Activities during the night at the Studio. The Owl House Studio and Entertainment Facility soon became the infamous business within the city, which caused many people to move out of the city; or even avoid the part of the city that the Studio is in. Numbers of guests visiting the Studio during 'Open Public Hours' started to decrease at a slow, by fair pace.
The "New-and-Improved" Owl House Studio and Entertainment (2022-2025)
A year following the first Studio closing, James and Nathan decided to re-open as a refurbished building and new technology and program systems in the Animatronics- Criminal Database, Suspicious Alarms, ect. The "new-and-improved" Owl House Studio and Entertainment Facility opened around the late period before Season 2 ended. Once the series were finished, the City attempted to put the company out of business, however couldn't go through with the action due to the active contract with Walt Disney Animation Studios. The Company was put on a "Do Not Demolition" Order by the Local Government due to the 'still up' Contract. After two years of the Series being finished, the Contract started to get loosened up, due to Walt Disney Company not wanting to do anymore business with Owl Entertainment Inc.
The Owl House Studio: Horror Attraction and Museum (2038-2039)
Around 13 years following the Studios' closure, Owl Entertainment Inc. decided to honor the tales and rumors of the Studio by opening a Horror Attraction, and even a Museum- showcasing all the old props, including the deactivated Animatronics from "both" locations.
The Owl Cafe (2057-2059)
It is now 32 years following the Studio closing their doors The Owl Cafe is it's the first restaurant-themed setting as the others are Studio Filming/Entertainment Establishments. Owl Entertainment gained a new owner- going under Owl Entertainment LLC.
A few Employee's were assigned to head to the burn wreckage of the Horror Attraction/Museum place where they were to try to salvage what they could, but they couldn’t find anything due to everything being burnt from the fire. However, the employees were forced to return to the old rubbles and debris where the building once was a second time to thoroughly go through the burnt remains to shockingly find a polished wired glass (which is fire proof glass) jar that had withstood the major flames and contained what appeared to be four different glowing hues of spiritual essence “Remnant” - along with a flash drive. The staff took it back to the current establishment which it was unknowably installed the said remnant into the newly made animatronics thinking that it would assist with their programming.
The flash drive was plugged into the main system computer which started to glitch the system and download a virus to all the electronic devices around the restaurant over the night; without anyone noticing. The business was opened in July 2057, and the restaurant went on without a hitch and was able to thrive for two more year's until- in late 2059 a bite with one of the newer original models: Mocha Cappuccino, bit a customer due to a drink spill that went into the mechanic wires and systems, and a investigation with the local police from a few reported suspicious activities which the company denied even knowing or being apart of..the suspicious activities are unknown (A few hidden murders and missing reports) The establishment closed down after two and-a-half years open, keeping night guard hiring for another year, with finding out what’s going on in the building at night time; making the horrific realization that the animatronics were actually living and possessed with the original murdered children from the first ever “The Owl House” Studio establishment. The Remnant was shared/divided among all animatronics.
All locations falls between a duration of 63 years! The first ever related "Owl House" content was between 1995 to 2000 called, "Luz and Friends"
Luz and Friends
Luz and Friends is an early short-animated show that was created and aired between 1993 to 1995. The animation was flat and simple, then being followed with it's successor animated television show The Owl House. Luz and Friends was approximately eight minutes long.
Each episode would have a small conflict among the group of teen kids; or could be a simple argument, and is solved by Luz herself learned by a valuable lesson. Hunter was always known as the "trouble maker" in the teen group. Before 'The Owl House' aired, King was known as a forest stray. The program didn't have a complex/difficult plot-line. The location setting was unknown in "Luz and Friends" as the program didn't focus too much on the setting, more than the plot of the story for that episode.
Animatronics Around The Universe
There are many variations of the 'The Owl House' Animatronics- Originals, 2.0's, Phantoms, and the Cafe Animatronics. I will list the Animatronics in the "Universe Series" they appear in:
"Originals" Animatronics- FNaTOHS&E 2
- Luz Noceda - Amity Blight - Hunter - King
"2.0's" Animatronics- FNaTOHS&E 1
The 2.0's indicates the Second Studio- and the Epilogue "era" Animatronics
- Luz Noceda 2.0 - Amity Blight 2.0 - Hunter 2.0 - King Clawthorne 2.0 - Eda Clawthorne 2.0 - London - Shadow Luz Noceda -Shadow King Clawthorne
"Hallucinations/Nightmares"- FNaTOHS&E "4"
As the same as the "FNaTOHS&E 1" Era, the Nightmares are also the Epilogue "era" Animatronics.
- Nightmare Luz Noceda * Nightmare Stringbean - Nightmare Amity Blight * Nightmare Ghost - Nightmare King Clawthorne - Nightmare Hunter - Nightmare Eda Clawthorne - Nightmare London
"Phantoms" & "Deathtrap Luz"- FNaTOHS&E 3
As the same as the "FNaTOHS&E 1" Era, the Phantoms are also the Epilogue "era" Animatronics. Unlike for "Deathtrap" Luz Noceda is the tattered version of the springlock 'early iteration' of Luz.
- Deathtrap Luz Noceda * Prototype/Deathtrap Luz Noceda: Prototype is a taller and "older aged" version of Luz Noceda that was never used for the series. She has black leggings, dark purple turtle neck long-sleeved shirt wore under a light blue and white jacket- having a single dark purple stripe along the middle. An owl pendant necklace around her neck, wearing light purple, white, and blue sneakers. Prototype Luz has her pixie cut style but slightly longer. She has a singular golden rectangular earring on her right ear. (her "age" appears to be around 16) - Phantom Luz Noceda - Phantom Amity Blight - Phantom King Clawthorne - Phantom Hunter - Phantom Eda Clawthorne
"Cafe" Animatronics- FNaTOHS&E 5
Cafe Luz Noceda
- Cafe Luz keeps her styled curly shortened hair, mascara black earrings, and her permanent "scar" from the series. Due to the Cafe style, Luz dons brown trousers, black short sleeved shirt, with lighter tan jacket that has a golden clip of the Cafe's logo on the right corner of the jacket, with a pin underneath the logo clip-pin which is a pin shape and colored of stringbean. And black shoes. - Luz helps with day security guard, by looking over the whole Cafe as double security; since she's still the main mascot of the company.
Cafe King Clawthorne
- Cafe King is the same with his dark red collar and tag that has the initials "KC" on it. Along with his bright blue star sticker/bandage on the right side of his skull. On the collar is a golden pin clip that has the Cafe's logo on it. King just wears a coffee brown colored apron. - King would show "coming in" customers to their seats, handing them their menus
Cafe Amity Blight
- Cafe Amity’s hair goes back to the color from the episode “Thanks to Them” with the light pink and the brown root color on the top of her head. She is dressed with a naples yellow colored long sleeved turtle neck shirt, black pants, and a white/light tan colored waist apron that has a pocket in it - which a pad and a pen is always kept in it for Amity to take the customers orders. On the waist apron is a golden clip pin that has the Cafe’s logo. Cafe Amity also wears gray shoes.  - Amity would help the human waiters take table orders on hours that the Cafe is very busy following hourly shows.
Cafe Hunter
Cafe Hunter also stayed the same from his “Epilogue” appearance from the series- including his few face and ear scars. He wears a brown long sleeved shirt that has the cuffs of the sleeves folded. Black pants - like Amity, gray shoes, and a light orange/brown apron. - Hunter would help assist Cafe Amity with taking tables orders on hours that the Cafe is very busy between showings.
Aura the Weasel
- Aura is one of the three new characters; alongside Mocha and Echo. Owl Entertainment LLC., has decided to experiment with having animal themed animatronics as well. - Aura assists with table delivery meal orders on rush hours.
Mocha Cappuccino the Red Panda
- Mocha Cappuccino, also known as just "Mocha", is also one of the new characters Owl Entertainment LLC., has created- and is experimented on with having animal themed animatronics. - Mocha has her own place in the "Kid's Table Room" to look after the younger kids, and delivering their meals.
Echo the Hare
- Echo, is one of the three and final new characters of Owl Entertainment LLC., and has built and experimented to see how animal themed/based animatronics program around guests/customers due to a 'walk-around' four legged animal animatronics weren't made before. - Echo helps assists Aura with table delivery meal orders.
Security A.C.E.
- Mostly known just as "Ace". He is a Great Horned Owl that's black, brown, and gray. He also has see-in-the-dark features with bright yellow eyes. On both of his wings, he has a design of a 'security' shield with neon blue trims. - He is the on that holds tight security on the whole network of the restaurant.
FNaTOHS&E 1&2 Hauntings
• With the Animatronics - in their "normal mode setting" their eyes are normal with their color eyes and white sclera - except King, he has his yellow sclera.
• Paranormal activities began two days following the MCI - marking that Kailey's third "experience" was successful and that remnants have been collected. The Animatronics continues to program/act the same way, except that they can have tendencies to be more staredown on adults than kids. Since the ghost children are mostly in an "invisible" state most of the time, some objects and doors may seem to open, or slam close themselves. Night Guards that have ran out and/or quickly quit would report random loud scrapping sounds, the security cameras rapidly flashing/going out un-naturally, hearing ghostly whisper sounds, and even the animatronic walking around acting threatening. Often have haunting nightmares of four children stalking and injuring them - when waking up discovering that the injuries are real - a few people have actually died in their dream.
• A few sightings have also been seen of red liquid splattered along walls spelling words like: "YOU". "YOUR NOT OUR FRIEND". "IT'S ME". "SHOW ON" with a red child-sized finger print in red next to it, Or "NO SAVING". Only "IT'S ME" would appear when Luz is nearby and about to attack.
• Ghost Children Possession/Alert: light-yellow tint sclera - King's is a tad darker.
• Ghost Children Angered: fully dark red.
The Torture Machine
• The Torture Machine is a hallow front shelled King/horn skull head machine (like the Animatronics' Masks) that has a bunch of sharp gears, shredders, and sharp slicing blades that causes anyone that gets pressed into it ripped apart. This device was originally created by Chairman and Agents of Owl Entertainment Inc. secretly for a tool of controlling - which soon gets taken over as a tool to "fix" people that the Animatronics gets a hold of to properly fit them into the empty suits in the supply/parts and service room. in the '90's it was used a few times by Kailey Lakewood and even Mr. West to get rid of a few Agents/Employees that were caught either snooping around Owl Entertainment corporate office finding secrecy information papers - or, breaking the #8 rule in the business.

[2024.11.12] Ginza December 2024 special edition x Yuzuru Hanyu
Tumblr media
The happiness of being able to perform focusing solely on the gift of blessings.
The final shot of a non-stop, 7-hour long shoot, interrupted only by short breaks. In the cyclorama studio, Yuzuru Hanyu repeatedly performed rotating jumps. With all his senses heightened, even to the tips of his fingers and toes, he faced the camera with incredible concentration. Amid the lightning-like flashes and the sound of strobes charging, his body no longer seemed human but more like that of a dragon in motion.
"For this shoot, I tried a hands-free cartwheel for the first time. It was fun to improvise and create freely with the cameraman and lighting team, working in perfect harmony. I've worn Gucci's clothes many times as an ambassador, but every time, I feel like I'm wrapped in something of the highest quality, with just the right weight, texture, and functionality. As I approached the shoot, I thought about how I wanted these special clothes to be seen, and how I wanted to move in them."
He sees them as "costumes" rather than as fashion. This awareness is probably something he has cultivated as a skater.
"Only I know myself best. But I can't just focus on my own perspective—I always have to think about how I am perceived by those around me. No matter how much I refine my expressions, if it doesn’t resonate with the viewers, it’s meaningless. I think this way because I’ve always been in a world where my performances were judged. In competitions, when an abstract performance gets a score from 0 to 10, if I’m satisfied with my own internal standards, it won't lead to a good result. Even though it's impossible to make everyone happy, I've always tried to create something that anyone would rate at least a 7, and I’m still on that path Furthermore, as a professional now, I believe I won’t survive in the entertainment world unless I produce something even more special from within myself."
It has been over two years since he declared his transition to professional figure skating in July 2022. During this time, he moved beyond the world of competitions and aimed for even greater heights, becoming the first in the figure skating world to hold a solo performance and successfully complete a solo tour. Has his mindset changed during this time?
"In these two years, I’ve had more opportunities to plan and write stories for my original shows, and in reflecting on the past, I’ve realised that there is no fundamental difference between the person I was before I started skating and who I am now. Of course, I believe my character has changed since I encountered figure skating—both in good ways and bad I’ve come to understand society, and sometimes I overthink things or fall into negativity. But my fundamental personality hasn’t changed at all. It’s my curiosity and inquisitiveness. I’ve always been the type of person who asks ‘why?’ about everything. From the age of 2 or 3, I was the kind of child who was always asking questions to the adults around me. "
There is a picture book, GIFT, written by Yuzuru Hanyu himself, in which a character appears that hints at the image of Yuzuru Hanyu as a young boy. In Hanyu’s own words, we can see the pain and loneliness he experienced while growing up as a skater.
"In that story, my younger self always exists as a dream and talks with me during moments when I feel down or troubled. It’s set during a time when I didn't know much about society and when I wasn’t bound by anything. I feel that the feelings I had back then, when I simply wanted someone to see me, to praise me, to improve, and to achieve something, are definitely still present in me today."
At the root of his journey to two Olympic gold medals and the People’s Honor Award was a pure and innocent desire to improve and have fun.
"The medals and certificates I received during my competitive days were prizes for the results I achieved, and the congratulations and joy from the people around me and my fans were my gifts. Now that I’m a professional, I no longer need to compete for results. Instead, I feel very happy that I can now focus solely on delivering the greatest satisfaction to those who watch me, that is, on receiving a 'gift' from all of you."
Yuzuru Hanyu, who was blessed with a natural talent (=Gift), has continued to give courage, joy, and love to many people through numerous performances, and even outside of the rink, by supporting and visiting disaster-stricken areas such as Tohoku and Noto. Doesn't that wear him down?
"Performing well and continuing social activities require both time and energy, and it can be tough at times, but I feel that I have to do it. It's a sense of mission, and perhaps the meaning of my life in this world. Feeling needed by others gives me self-affirmation, and even if I fail and fall into self-loathing, I believe that is proof that I am confronting myself properly, and it’s a moment when I can truly feel alive. I strongly want to be someone who makes those who see my performances and photos think, 'I’ll keep doing my best,' or 'I’ll keep living tomorrow.' By connecting with society in this way, I want to continue feeling the meaning of life. Perhaps that awareness is a gift from God to me."

by Rabbi Michael Barclay
A mere month after the horrors of babies being beheaded, women being raped, and the slew of horrors from Hamas, Owens went on Tucker Carlson’s show to speak about how it really wasn’t that bad, and why should she even care. (After all, she seems to think that Hitler was “ok”, so what’s the problem?) She wanted to talk about the depravities of Hamas as an “academic discussion”, and refused to even condemn Hamas. She castigated Ben Shapiro for being passionately pro-Israel, and demonstrated a remarkable ignorance about everything Jewish, including: the Holocaust; the history of Israel; the history of the involvement of Jews in the early civil rights movement, and how Kanye West’s anti Semitic comments were clear expressions of Jew hatred.
But her appearance a few months ago is not the exception; it is part of a pattern of repeated Jew hatred that seems to be an essential part of Owens’ psyche.
Most recently, she has tried to justify her repeating anti-Semitic trope by attacking a Rabbi and his family. She has called any Jew who points out her anti-Semitism a “thug” and “part of a gang” that she compares to Crips and Bloods.
I am always recalcitrant to  speak negatively about any conservative in the public arena, as we are all attacked too much by the left as it is. But it is worth taking an honest look at Ms. Owens to see if her previous words were just based on ignorance, or if in combination with her latest actions demonstrate a Jew hater and ignorant hypocrite.
While Owens showed ennui towards what happened on Oct 7 and defended Kanye West, in the last few days she has adopted some of the oldest Jew hating lies. There is a reality that in the early 20th century, many Jews got involved in the entertainment industry as it was just starting. Many of the original heads of studios were Jewish: the Warner brothers, Thalberg, Mayer, and others gravitated to the new industry of motion pictures as they were kept out of other businesses by institutionalized anti-Semitism. This led to the oft repeated anti-Semitic trope of “the Jews control Hollywood”. Although there was actually a level of truth to that in the early 20th century, it was simply a Jew hating slur by the 1950s. By the 1970s, the majority of executives, producers, and powerful agents were no longer Jewish. By the 1990s, the slur was no longer being used, and had actually been replaced by the anti-gay slurs of “Hollywood is controlled by the gay mafia”, and “you can’t get a job in this town if you’re not gay”; and the days of Jew haters accusing Jews of controlling Hollywood was a relic of the past.
But not so for Owens, who has brought back that Jew hating libelous trope in recent days. And she has additionally made personal attacks on a prominent Rabbi and his family for his exposing her Jew hatred.
