On the magic system in Mike's world

So I think I've briefly mentioned this before but I just decided I would talk about all the things I have decided with magic for this world. cause why not. apologies if this is worded poorly I don't feel like fully thinking through my sentences.

So, two worlds, one is the og the other createf by magic-users when they had to flee for one reason or another, yadda yadda. Not sure why I'm mentioning this tbh.

the magic world is based around the medieval times or smth. there's the nobles, middle class, and peasants. of course there's also the ruling power whatever it is exactly.

the nobles are generally powerful mages and it is believed that peasants cannot use magic for it is "too powerful for them uwu" or smth. the peasant part is a lie. there's propaganda to make sure people keep believing it cause smth smth keep the status quo. of course there's been people who defied this but they were quickly disposed of and covered up. Mike's the first one who got away yanno?

but that's context or whatever. actual magic time.

the short summary I would give is imagine an rpg spell tree but the amount of skill points everything costs is different for everyone.

casting a spell uses stamina. How much stamina is used depends on a few things: your affinity (what magic is easiest for you to use), how difficult the spell is, whether you are casting it alone and familiarity with the spell. there are also probably factors like are you in a magical enviornment (or maybe one that's comforting to you?) but that's more of an aside. Each person also has a different amount of base stamina and you can train or smth to increase it but ya know. maybe I should call stamina mana but whatever.

I have not really figured out how magic is used though. What it takes to cast a spell besides stamina and the knowledge of how to cast a spell. Unfortunately.

So Mike's affinity is fire. That would mean that casting fire related spells is easier for him. Like, he could make a flame appear in his hand and put it out with minimal drain on his stamina but if you asked him to move a plate from the kitchen table to the sink it would take a Lot of effort, make him Very tired. if he could even be able to do it. Still, if he put his mind to it 🤔 though hmmmmm... whether he would be able to learn non-fire related spells is up for debate. we'll see.

Is this my best comic ever?? Nope. Do I think I characterized either of these two particularly well in this comic?? Not really. Did I spend an unreasonable amount of time on it to the point that it would be a waste to not post it?? Yes, yes I did.

I really committed to this one, spent a lot of time on those backgrounds and treated myself to ample suffering with the perspective, which is not my strong suit but I am happy with how it ultimately looks. Yay perspective and background practice!!

(Tbh I shouldn't talk like I think this one sucks, I think I've just been staring at it for so long that my brain has decided it's not good and it's actually way better than I think it is, and honestly I am quite happy with it. The artistic process really is something, isn't it?)

The inspiration was basically me reminding... myself... to take breaks sometimes... by drawing for several hour stints during my only little bits of free time. Which totally tracks. Probably. But I've been rolling around in my brain this idea that Lambert is a very uptight people pleaser and anxious workaholic, but Narinder, at least since adjusting himself to the circumstances (which probably took at least a century, maybe two) has discovered the joys of self care, and has made an active effort to chill tf out. This has not made him any less terrifying to the cultists (save for Lambert's closest disciples), nor has it made him friendlier to really anyone but Lambert (and maybe his siblings), but he sure has found some serious peace of mind. That said, I can't place what his motivations are here. Perhaps he is secretly concerned about Lambert's sanity, because he doesn't want them to turn into what he was, or maybe he's just trying to steal away some quality time with his one and only friend, but regardless of the reason, I spent too much time on this for nobody to see it, dang it.

That said. Enjoy this silly little comic that I spent way too much time on, and I hope this silly comic brings you some joy today.

something so fucked up about Chat Noir’s whole deal is that he is in a lot of ways Adrien playing a character. Like Adrien picked up his miraculous and was told he’d be a superhero so he was like “ok, time to act like a superhero!” and he lets himself have fun w it and play up the role and let loose and kind of just allow himself to be silly and goofy and have fun and for once in his life not care about performing Perfection™.

But. But none of the other characters KNOW THAT. So everyone just sees Chat Noir and is like “look at this guy’s ego. He’s so full of himself. Surely it’d be fair to knock him down a few pegs” without being aware of how few pegs he actually HAS. He’s like the “insecure character who overcompensates in ego” trope except he’s really not doing it unironically, he’s just having a fun LARP pretending to have self worth in his off-hours but nobody else is on the same page about it being a game and he refuses to tell them. He just dramatically pouts about it and lets them laugh and pretends like he’s not internalizing it and it is almost 3 am and my brain forced me to write this instead of sleeping I’m gonna take a melatonin

Man he’s so fun to draw. I’m excited to get started on the Investigations remaster! It’ll be my first time playing those games. Looking forwards to seeing Gumshoe and Franziska again, since I’ve gotten through Dual Destinies and Spirit of Justice, which I enjoyed thoroughly but there was a severe lack of those two.
