Star Trek Voyager 5x11 - Latent Image
Janeway: It's as though there's a battle being fought inside him, between his original programming and what he's become. Our solution was to end that battle. What if we were wrong? B'Elanna: We've seen what happens to him. In fact, we've seen it twice. Janeway: Still, we allowed him to evolve, and at the first sign of trouble? We gave him a soul, B'Elanna. Do we have the right to take it away now? B'Elanna: We gave him personality subroutines. I'd hardly call that a soul.

I thought too hard about Among Us and now I have serious concerns regarding that reactor
#among us#radiationposting#ice speaks#WHY DOES YOUR SCRAM NEED TWO PEOPLE#DID THE IMPOSTERS BUILD THAT#every design idea i came up with had at least one fatal flaw and the solution also had their own fatal flaws#that's probably on me but still#i came to the hilarious conclusion of 'you better save all that xenon for later because you WILL need it'#'but it will decay' bold of you to assume that the reactor can go that long without threatening to blow up#i might study nuclear engineering actually because no sane person thinks about this for so long

Ferrari seem like they are planning to restructure their engineering team. Source.
The restructuring of the engineering department at Ferrari taking things in a more modernized direction copying a system similar to Mclaren is probably the best direction the team can take. No single head technical officer, instead a team of 3-4 engineers who can have an open collaborative environment.
We have been wanting to see the team modernize in their approach and it seems that they have been thinking similar things. Something has to change. And with all the talk around Newey that wasn't really going to be a change. That was going to be bringing in an engineer to the same team structure (I already talked about why I don't think Newey would work at Ferrari and why it made sense they didn't try harder for him)
Centering your entire technical team around one man and his ideas is great, and it works when it works, but it can leave a team vulnerable if that man is wrong (humans tend to be wrong from time to time) or leaves. Look at how quickly Red Bull has been collapsing after only losing a few key personnel. They built their success as a team around his aerodynamics, and look how quickly it crumbles when he leaves or gets ignored(and thus is one of the reasons he left)
People really panned Ferrari saying they "fumbled Newey" and that he was the only way they'd be able to bring the team back. When I strongly disagree. We need a complete team, not one person. And we also need new ideas, and a structure that will serve the team long term. Newey is one man who would eventually retire and where would that leave Ferrari? Back at square one.
Having a multi headed team will allow for more ideas and cross examination to happen and likely create a much stronger engineering team and structure for the long term of the team.
If this is the direction Ferrari are taking things then I am feeling more optimistic because I have been wanting to see a change like this for a while.
#no I do not think Ferrari should have given Newey complete control over the engineering department#that just isn't something you do#he's a great engineer but that would have been a disaster and I am not convinced on the results#I would rather we foster new talent and create a environment that is good at consistently generating quality ideas and solutions

Escaping Gravity + Aldera Uraraka + Hair Trigger + Hatsume for all + Engineering Solutions: Midoriya runs into Uraraka one day and brings her home, where he and Inko take her in after hearing her story due to understanding having to hide a family members identity (Even if it's for a different reason). They meet Hatsume at the sports festival and become a polycule a week later, where Hatsume reveals her secret to them. Now they work together to accomplish three things.
1. Defeat The League of Villains and by extension protect Uraraka from her father
2. Free Midoriyas' mother from Tartarus and expose the HPSC
3. Start a Hero Agency together when they go pro, and maybe a support company or two
Suffice to say, both Aizawa and All Might are taking a LOT of headache medicine now
Absolutely wild

Ketheric was going to be recruitable???
Yep. He was intended to be a companion, here's the article: https://www.ign.com/articles/baldurs-gate-3-director-reveals-one-surprising-villain-that-used-to-be-playable
Ngl I'm just beyond disappointed that anyone in that dev team thought cutting this was a good idea. Especially when we know they went out of their way to add in a someone who wasn't put in this game as a companion and wasn't intended to be one initially, while Ketheric was, even more so because of how half baked it was. I'm baffled and gutted that this was worth keeping to them, while Ketheric, who is far more plot significant, was not.
You can still play up to getting to persuade him which was where he was meant to join you and idk why the fuck they left that in then.
I honestly wish they would stop fucking talking about what they cut now that they've abandoned the game.
#answered#larian critical#bg3 critical#act 3 was so weak ketheric would've improved it significantly#man he'd have been your main advisor on gortash and orin#also the other stuff they cut#i'd happily sacrifice 2/3s of the absolute boring unconnected bullshit in act 3#for this stuff that was axed#redeemed durge mentions going to candlekeep in an epilogue so you can bet there would've been been something there#beyond the 13 year old edgelord murderhobo bs we get in the game#gale was interested in the astral sea in ea it was hinted to be a potential solution for his orb#astral sea / vlaakith means lae'zel getting more stuff too#getting to go to the hells proper not just raph's house would've opened up so much for both karlach and wyll#like if we were going to the hells that puts them at the top of the fucking list for characters who'd have had more to say and do there#karlach's engine actually having an in game fix lmao imagine that.#but nah instead we get them rewriting to add stuff to the ending to pander to a char who already has double the romance of anyone else#and then casually mentioning all the far more important shit they left out of bg3#i'm done#i'm so sorry for the essay anon my salt is so high

okay u know i love 11ft8 bridge cant get enough of that shit but every time theres a post about how it was raised and how theres soooooo much signage. i cant help but think. okay the actually way to MAKE cars slow down is to put things in their way tho. ppl drive faster on wide streets so making narrower streets with like trees and stuff to drive around is a way u can actually force them do to that. so really shouldnt they have Lowered the bridge.......
#some shit#hi im blogger wifi sign my petition to lower! that! brigde! there gonna call it the 8ft11 when im done with it. etcetcetc#its just like. oh yeah. traffic engineering is fucked. i already new that i guess.#so many ppl like to blame stuff like that. on. drivers are so stupid they dont read#and like sure whatever i mean as a pedestrian i dont trust em#but just like. i always feel like there are more elegant and useable design solution to things. i u tried#<- and i DONT mean. weird hyper modern abstract 'intuitive' design i mean like. when things have handles ussually u grab the handles#not always tho <- said grabbing my mug around the main body cause most mug hands are. honestly. shit.

Putting 'geets is a cat' in my own tags has me laughing so hard thinking about how Bulma 'My Dad is an Avid Animal Rescuer' Briefs could probably circumvent Geets getting in the way during his 'I'm quitting fighting forever' phases by giving him his own little tasks to do that mimic hers
look at this little business man
#genuinely he was a commanding officer/lord and outside of battle most of his 25+ year career was probably just. Management.#with how messy bulma is geets is probably a major asset. I bet her lab/office is never more organized than when he's home#that said it is VERY funny to think that he was annoyingly rigid and getting in the way of Bulma's creative process at the beginning of#the 7 year gap so she just started giving him Very Important random busywork to stave off his depression but keep him out of her way#We know geets is also scientific and I hc he knows some basic mechanical engineering (to keep from falling victim to a ship breaking down)#nothing super advanced but enough to help out here and there and at least offer alien solutions to earthling tech problems#maybe she made him help her “fix” the gravity room and then test it out and that's how he started training again aw

At the bus stop one time there was a gaggle of preschoolers waiting to catch the bus for a field trip day, and someone walked past with a couple of friendly little dogs, to great general delight.
But after a little bit, the dogs were getting overwhelmed, and the preschoolers were gently coaxed to back off so the person with the dogs could continue on. Specifically, one of the preschool teachers said, "Sometimes, when you're small, being surrounded by big people can be a bit scary and overwhelming. Even if they are friendly."
This was recieved as great wisdom: after all, the preschoolers were also small, and understood how scary and overwhelming big people could be! And the dogs were indeed even smaller than the preschoolers, so it made sense.
What was funny and charming was that, upon absorbing and reflecting on this wisdom, they all felt the need to tell it to one another. In tones of great insight, they turned to one another and said, "Did you know? Sometimes when you are small, being surrounded by big people can be scary and overwhelming! Even if they are friendly!" Back and forth, without any particular concern that they were all saying the same thing. Have reached comprehension of an insight, it must be shared!
I must say that this behavior is less charming in tumblr users than in preschoolers. Not least because tumblr users, having gained a little analytical skill to misuse, insist on Summarizing and Generalizing and Unifying the insights they repeat, quickly turning any interesting new information into formulaic dogmatic mush.
#i made the mistake of looking in the notes of the beach sand post i reblogged to see if anyone else had interesting comments#And the rate at which it went from like#1) person states with moderate confidence an opinion based on their personal observations#2) multiple people reply with “wow thats so insightful!” (aka it aligns with my preconceived notions of how things work)#3) someone else adds additional personal observations which are not really relevant but which can be absorbed into the narrative#4) people start outright stating the underlying belief on which this bias is constructed as if it were a fresh insight#5) general derisive attitude towards people who haven't seen the Obviously Correct solution to this complex real world problem yet#It's very.......#It's not like it's a high stakes post but it's such a microcosm of the whole dogmatic phenomenon#Also this js a more specific gripe to My Field or w/e#But the degree to which people react to the problems caused by the whole “Control of Nature” era of engineering#with this equally reductive “Nature will Fix Everything” type of attitude#Is sooooo frustrating.#Yes a great many of our current problems could have been avoided if we had not made massive changes to ecosystem processes on the assumptio#That they were simple and we understood them. And that they would respond in predictable ways.#the simplicity in retrospect of “wow we Should Not have done that” does not mean that they are simple to undo!#You can't go back in time. You can't turn back the clock on chaotic processes#Which is. Almost every process ever.#Restoration is hard! Returning to previous regimes of sediment or flooding or fire is tricky and full of foibles!#Moving towards a future which doesn't suck as much even if the past cant be recreated is also uncertain and difficult!#It's frustrating to see people act all high and mighty about how they Respect Nature unlike whoever is making all these decisions#When their understanding of the natural processes in question is AS simplistic as the people who caused the whole mess back in 1910 or w/e#Like I'm not saying there's not bad interests standing in the way of functional restoration on all levels#That's very much a fight to be fought.#But looking at that fight-in-process and saying “wow none of you Respect Nature like me uwu let nature fix it”#Is.#Ugh.

in retrospect while Discovery is incredibly plot and drama heavy I really appreciate how well it’s been able to hold onto the technobabble mystery of it all throughout. I know that the burn is widely considered to be a low point for the show but for a low Su’Kal as a stand-alone plot was really good? And s4 brought it back to a season long ethics and science exploration which was nice. It may have made sacrifices to be more serialized but whoever decided that it would do so on a ship focused on experimental science was brilliant because so far it’s been a good balance
#disco is like half engineering station half everything else#good or bad someone is always sciencing it up#even if they’re screaming at each other while doing it#star trek discovery#a mushroom network absorbed peoples consciousnesses and at one point reincarnated someone#big drama big science#I really do love this show#it’s aged so well for me like in retrospect the cringiest bits are fun#like Michael saving the day by doing the equivalent of booting up windows 97 on a computer from 2022#is Star Trek not supposed to be dumb plots and silly solutions with weird science mysteries#I don’t think Disco is failing just because it takes a pause and stops taking itself seriously every once in a while

Also I am VINDICATED that literally all bosses and p.e.s at my new job has said to me "wow you're good at this. This is the fastest anyone has picked this up. You'll advance fast if you actually stay here" Because I can spot design flaws that take like idk engineering sense? I just know what kinds of things are important in design.
So vindicated that I'm a good engineer. Vindicated that I held that company together. They can keep it going (because I set them up to be able to do that) but there is nothing to hold them together. I told the principals that what they'll lose with me is someone to make sure all the parts of the business work together and someone who can make holistic solutions, and that's what they're seeing.
The implication was always that I wasnt a talented engineer. That's what they thought from literally week two (which I know from sources). I wonder what about me made them think in two weeks I was bad at engineering 🤔 I wonder what about me made them think that when I was still learning things like who our customers were and being introduced to people 🤔 literally before I ever took on an engineering project 🤔 not sure! A mystery!
As I was saying in the 'think of things no one has thought of' business class: I have come up with industry standard systems. Is it small? Yes. But it was 100% my design with no co-designers.
#totes bro#is this me not being humble? maybe#but I legitimately think im good at engineering. like i really think im not bad at it#now that everyone around me keeps telling me im good at engineering at the new job (lol)#working in an over 50% female (over 50% nonwhite too) office is great because people dont automatically assume im an idiot#the misogyny in engineering is unbearable#apparently all of the contractors my coworkers work with commit misogyny crimes regularly so its not my imagination#also our whole kind of thing is men make us do their work for them for free because we check for the publics interest#and they dont even try to work inline with what is best. they just try to get away with shit.#EXCEPT for the female PEs! they try to do a good job! so we dont have to pick up their slack#anyway women are simply better engineers. having everyone assume youre bad at engineering makes you better imo#will anyone ever tell you youre better? no.#OH. ALSO. at my last job if the fraud engineer sales guy presented my solutions and products as his own he would get praise from customers#so i eventually stopped saying things were my designs because at least i could get credit that they were good when he presented them#this isnt engineering ethics this is me bitching about misogyny#also with the last post all fields are subject to the military industrial complex. let mech e (and aerospace but you should have known) is#a specific hell because its such a conservative engineering still

I love empire now by hozier it’s one of his best songs in recent memory in my opinion. and it is also, I have to admit, about max verstappen.
#LISTEN#future so bright it’s burning#the empire now is Merc dominance#a world that’s easy now = max’s current dominance#and the transition from a dream come around to a world that’s easy now = the difference between 2021 and all the years that came after#going to go out on a limb also and say martyrs of our revolution = daniel#also there’s SOMETHING there with problem brought it’s own solution but idk what#I need the max scholars of the fandom to help me out maybe#max verstappen#hozier#empire now#maxiel#< maybe. probably.#also any song with scratchy guitar and bass that sounds like a car engine is about f1 I don’t make the rules
