Hi! I'm Claris, a Chinese Canadian indie author & poet with three self-published amateur sleuth murder mystery books! All of them are part of the same series - the Harlow Mystery series - and I just released "Bloody Fantasia" (Book 3) earlier this year!

The Harlow Mystery series features a bisexual heroine in Aubri Harlow (as well as other supporting/main characters that are gay, lesbian, etc.). Though our heroine does not end up romancing anyone, there is an established gay romance between two supporting characters in the latter two books (and that's all I can say without giving spoilers).

Also - the first two books in the series, "Winner Takes All" and "Engagement To Die For," were nominated for multiple categories in the 2023 Indie Ink Awards and the 2023 Queer Indie Awards!

I think it’s weird how hostile the art community, on Twitter especially, has become towards children as of late? Like artists that i follow one or two people in common with, I’ll go to their bio and there’ll be something saying “minors fuck off” (or something more violent like kys) and like… dude did the 🔞 emoji not suffice? I completely get not wanting to engage with children (I’m gradually reaching a point where someone follows me and I see they’re 15 or so and get Stressed™️), but that’s still a human person. Grown ass adults will have some weird hatred of kids online for the crime of being children. Something they can’t change.

What I'm proposing is that this year, instead of donating to NaNoWriMo consider buying an indie book instead. Even if you've never donated before consider supporting an indie author.

I think one of the biggest drivers in the "transandrophobia discourse" is that the women/transfems who are currently going after transmascs, belive that men have some inherent qualities. The flavor changes depending on who is talking, but it's always one of them: bioessencialism, genderessencialism, sexessencialism, ect.

Newsflash: feminism includes everyone and strives to free ALL from these societal systems. As soon as you exclude literally anyone, you're not a feminits anymore. Even if that group is cis, white, hetero, able-bodied, upperclass men. They are not opressed by this system, but they sure are affected! And need to be included in femminist discussion. Both about their struggles with patriarchy and capitalism AND about preventative measures for rape, SA, sexism, ect. (How they cause harm through perpetuation of harmfull systems. That they did not put in place. Literally just please give men a space to deconstruct these systems for themselves. They are not gonna 100% see themselves in theory made by women and thats ok. That doesn't make them automatically evil.)

When people are like Wei Wuxian was NOT suicidal it’s like. Ok sure. He just believed that his debt to the Jiangs should be paid with everything up to and including his life. And also that the moral and obvious thing to do in any situation is to put himself between anyone and harm's way. This is because he thinks he’s unkillable but he makes himself unkillable for the same reason he’ll die for a good enough reason: because it’s a way to have worth!

And then famously once everything goes to shit he does beg Lan Wangji to let him die as part of the moment where he is either destroyed by his own evil magic or lets his own evil magic tear him apart, a distinction I don't personally think matters very much at that point. Less explicitly textually, his mentally ill ass behavior after he gives up his core says to me that he wishes that he'd died honorably for Jiang Cheng when he had the chance and doesn't know what to do with himself since he hasn't.

Again I’m aware that he’s operating under a pretty specific set of culturally informed norms as a cultivator and member of a sect but like. TO ME. Everything about how Wei Wuxian conducts himself indicates that he has a box in his mind at all times that says 'in case of emergency break glass' and what’s inside the box is his own death. All the sound of mind actions of a man who has a normal and not suicidal relationship to death.

like i truly just do not think you could fuck up writing a straight person badly enough to create light. how would that even happen. how could that occur. is the assumption that o&o have never met a straight person in their entire life. what circumstances could have led them to the assumption that 'dislikes having sex with woman' is a standard straight male preference.
