random question, in the Drew Brown AU im curious how you chose the names of his dogs and cats if you are willing to share!
I was actually just working on something like this and I’m happy to do that
These are the meanings of Ender’s name and the names of his brigade of emotional support kids animals.
Just so everyone knows I also made myself sad with some of these

I’m super surprised that homophobic, misogynistic, racist Orson Scott Card could allow such tender, vulnerable, platonic love between two boys in his book, but God am I grateful for it
#alai#ender wiggins#enders game#I swear the kiss scene changed my brain chemistry#they’re so good for each other and their friendship is so beautifully sweet and :’)#anyways i was talking to a friend about books and eventually Ender’s Game came up and now I can’t stop thinking about it

Poseidon is my favourite Epic character for reasons, and it occurs to me he and Ender Wiggin (from Ender's Game) would've gotten along very well.
Ender has a philosophy of not winning just the one fight, but all future ones, a particular principle that turns him far more deadly than he should be out of sheer self-preservation.
Poseidon would've loved him.

orson scott card: there is no tragedy greater than the violence we teach to our children before they can understand it - violence against those who, despite how completely and irrevocably different from ourselves they may seem to us, deep down, are people and that's what matters
orson scott card: homosexuals shouldn't be allowed to be members of society <3 and I also hate black people
#like literally how do you... how do you write ender's game and then be a bigot. what was it for then#ender's game#orson scott card#ender wiggin#mormonism#homophobia#racism

The bones for the “Drew Brown” au I have
These aren’t all concrete and up to changes at anytime but I would love to hear people’s thoughts on it!
(I also gave Ender 3 dogs rather than the 2 I mentioned earlier because he deserves it!)

I find it funny that people fandomize (new word!) Enders game. Like to me it is a deeply disturbing and interesting study into ideas of kindness, manipulation, character, and more. But then on tumblr I see people babygirl-ifying them and making them into cutesy little playthings. It feels exactly like Miku binder Thomas Jefferson.
And I guess do what you want, who am I to stop you, but it is just so strange to me how differently we can enjoy things.

some valentine headcanons
She had a speech impediment when she was young and was made to go to speech therapy to correct it. She made Ender do the exercises along with her because she didn’t want him to develop the same impediment and have one more thing to be bullied for. He credits this with his public speaking skills later in life.
Like her brothers, she has dark hair and eyes and light brown skin.
She likes small dangling earrings with cute shapes
She was raised with a lot of homophobia and xenophobia (and spread some online) but didn’t really internalize it unlike her siblings. It didn’t alarm her when she turned out to be interested in women as well as men. Her siblings' gender/sexuality didn’t bother her either, although they were both internally tortured for a while. She wasn't even surprised because she knew everything before they did.
She likes to braid her hair
Some part of her wishes she could have normal childhood and friendships with other girls her age. But then she remembers that a lot of people annoy her, especially after she spends time around her brothers
She secretly likes horror movies. Obviously she and her siblings were not allowed to watch them growing up. But when she was a child, while her father was watching, she would sneak in and watch them with him - that was her introduction to horror. The movies terrified her, but part of her liked being scared. Afterward she would relate a watered down version of the plots to Ender to give him a gentle scare.
She is a bad dancer.
She prefers paper books to e-books. As a little girl she reads books with a flashlight under the covers.
Her baking gets better over time. She loves to make pastries such as cream puffs. Ender doesn’t really like eating baked goods but he will always eat hers.
Her parents made her take violin lessons as a child because they liked the idea of having a cute little girl violin prodigy. She dropped it after a few years and admires Peter who is much more dedicated to the piano.
She was raised by Catholic parents and although she is not catholic she appreciates the aesthetics of catholicism.
Her tallest height is 160cm (5'3") and she is secretly sad that her brothers ended up taller than her.
She is not very romantic but she likes flirting.
Peter makes up nicknames for her based on her name. It really annoys her but she misses it when she leaves.
#enders game#valentine wiggin#let me know what you think :) what are your valentine hcs?#i was inspired today! i thought those drawings of her i rbed earlier were so cute i had to make this post#its been a while since i read the books so im just kind of doing my own thing#next up is petra i think :)#c 22#c 1#f 1#c 3

Shouting my thoughts into the void while reading the Shadow Saga-
Peter Wiggins character development across all the stories was so well done and it's rare to see so many facets of a single, non primary character. He is imbedded across both Ender's and Bean's storylines yet each one reflects different traits. While Ender's storyline goes into Peter as his baseline, cunning self (Ender's own experience of his brother) while Bean's storyline shows him as human, with the need to be considered by his parents as something more than 'Ender's brother'.
Also, it's interesting to see how the Wiggin parents interact with Peter. It's almost funny how there's a little spite to it all, even through they clearly support him as Hegemon. They're also great characters who are built across the story it's so well done
Ofc the stories become disjointed some times, with some themes falling short and Petra's loss of character growth, but I feel like Peter, John Paul, and Teresa become really elaborate characters in ways that weren't necessarily expected

Achilles (the illiad) was able to walk away because he knew he was needed.
he was powerful enough, useful enough, important enough, that the most harmful and powerful thing he could do was say no.
and no one could stop him, no one could punish him.
they could be angry, and tell him he was a fool, but he had the power and he knew that.
so when he was broken, when his whole paradigm of trust was crushed, he walked away.
he didnt try to kill the person who was doing the injustice, he didn't need to
and honestly it was a better move, a more harmful thing to remove himself, to simply say no.
Ender did the same thing, he was so broken after battle school.
he did not care anymore and he was angry and hurt and betrayed and lied to.
so what did he do?
he walked away, he said no, he built a raff and laid on a lake and refused to do anything.
because he was important, he was necessary.
so the thing he could do, was walk away and what could they do about it?
nothing, cause it was him they needed his mind, his skill, his passion.
he was nessisary to them so the worst thing he could do, the most powerful thing he could do was walk away.
#enders game#the illiad#ender wiggin#Achilles (the illiad)#finally figured out what the hell i was talking about in that post a while back
