#Empire is a facinating thing to me

I was typing out tags for this and then realised I don't actually want to talk to OP about this cause yes you are right about that, but also it is complicated and I have opinions. So you all get treated to my thoughts process. Lol

There is a case to be made about how historical empires have influenced modern day politics. Rome especially had a long lasting influence on Europe and the near east, including the spread of Christianity and the Catholic Church, but also the need of many countries to emulate its behaviour in order to be the heir to Rome. Rome splitting in to the Byzantine Empire after the fall, which operated out of modern day Turkey, and that influence didn't vanish.

There is history and change between then and now but Turkey to this day has long standing tense relations with Greece because of conquest and occupation, which could be said to contribute to the financial situation in Greece right now not least because the need to defend Europe's eastern boarder is their financial burden, and men to this day have to serve time in the military. It is also worth noting that Cyprus is a Greek island that was occupied by Turkey, and that is why half of it is Turkish and there is a buffer zone (1974 btw). Turkey had an extensive empire at one point, the Ottoman Empire, but we don't talk about that. It collapsed in 1922.

China is another one people don't talk about. China is doing this today. It is occupying territories today, and bullying it's neighbours. It only really comes to light in the west when it involved Hong Kong, which has British Empire links. But once again that's not white and it's not in English. This has consequences now, but from most western perspectives most people only view China as standing up against America, as the antithesis to Western Ideals, which they only view through the things they view as mistakes in their western existence.

Then there's the big one. USSR. The states around Russia today are incredibly nervous about what is going on in Ukraine, and there is a political situation going on globally as countries are deciding between backing Russia or back the US. And people are backing Russia. This is for a long list of reasons, but Russia and China hold a lot of influence in Africa these days. While there are historic aspects to it, particularly with the slave trade, the carving up of Africa, this does not mean weight isn't being thrown around today. The collapse of the mercenary group in Russia had huge ramifications for dictators across the world who are angry at the west, because it has affected their power.

At this point I got distracted checking something and found out slavery in Saudi Arabia and Yemen was outlawed in the fucking 1960's. :| Jesus Christ.

But yeah. Empire bad. But Empire not unique. These are not one atrocity perpetrated by the west on the rest of the world. Even historic and long ended empires have shadows cast on today's world, and the empires we don't talk about that exist in the near past, or the present, are not insignificant either. The West struggles to even talk about the rest of Europe.

There may not be anyone suffering under Ancient Egypt or Roman empire today, but there are people struggling under the ramifications of many empires that are not British or the US, historic and current, and if you want to truly dismantle that influence you can't just ignore that in your work and calculations.

you know what i've been so obsessed with lately is like, gods being gods in ancient greece, right? and it's these same gods, in their roman forms, that were in the roman empire then too. so imagine some colonizers coming along and killing people to convert and talking about this One True God and calling them fakes and ???? i feel like in the ancient times that's a great way to bring the wrath of the gods upon you, they would not have stood for that.

idk i just keep thinking of a world where the gods showed up and rained destruction on the colonizers trying to enforce their religion and thus the monotheistic religion never becoming as dominant and "default" as it is now. what do you think that world would be like?

Hello there! I've just come from ao3 and I've spent basically the entirety of the last two days reading the entirety of TTSBC, *inhale* AND I LOVE IT SO MUCH OH MY GOSH YOU'RE AN INCREDIBLE WRITER YOU HAVE NO IDEA HOW MUCH I'VE ENJOYED READING THIS AND ALSO THERE'S SO MUCH OF IT!!!

Seriously the fact that you manage to write so much and so well is incredibly impressive and I really admire you for it

Also I don't know how to bring across how much I LOVE your worldbuilding. It's one of my favourite things to pick up on as a story progresses, and the world you've created is so vivid and facinating and beautiful

Also I feel the need to grumble a teensy tiny bit about the cliffhanger with Grian- sorry, CuteGuy- getting injured becuase that was evil. I mean he was shot?? By whom??? It's probably thanks to that new head of Council (what was his name?)

Literally obsessed with Flower Husbands btw, their relationship is so sweet, and I've loved watching them progress from pining crushes to early relationship and having to work around the things that they don't know/understand to living together and slowly working out their issues (excited to see Scott's skeletons being tackled more btw) and being so cute and the poppy earrings and the trip to the undercity and the constant reassurances and- *wails distantly* It's so good.

And while we're in a ranting mood, how about Treebark and how Martyn (mirroring Scott) wanted more but didn't pressure Ren with anything because he understood he needed time and also (again mirroring Scott) decided he wanted to put the dagger down and give Ren all the roses. How he tried so hard to keep it together when he literally stumbled across the undercity and spontaneously had to (didn't technically, he chose to) go through the whole "meeting the (terrifying) family thing" because it was important to Ren. How Ren's first instinct was to protect him, even though he really didn't know how Martyn would react, and he was so scared it would be bad, and-

Or I could ramble on about Doc and Etho and how beautiful their relationship is, with all the crazy things they manage and do from day-to-day, and their darling Pesky Birds and Little Spark. There's a very unique feeling I get when I read how their early days in the depths were, it's so heartbreaking and beautiful at the same time, and I can't help but love it.

Or I could give you a paragraph about Grian and Scar and how their secrets and double lives unravelled, albeit messily in places, and how now there's just love, even though they haven't said it out loud (ahem, evil, evil cliffhanger) yet, and working around their differences and struggles, and cookies, and the coffee that Scar makes them in the mornings, and the shiny three-ringed binder, and-

I could go on about the under-city, this world under the surface, both dangerous and beautiful. Or Grian, Pearl and Jimmy and how much they mean to each other, absolute chaos and unwavering support. Or our wonderful, loving, chaotic family of six (yes, six, Tango for the love of god you're part of it too even if your relationship with them looks different), Tango and Zed and their issues that they probably really need get sorting out, Cleo and Bdubs (gods that one where they met healed and broke me in equal measure), the Empires Family (they're so dear to me), Nature Wives(I loved how they met), etc, etc, etc.

I could keep going, but I won't in this already super long ask (sorry about that by the way, wasn't really intended). I may rant in the future, if you'd like to hear it

Needless to say, the brainrot has gotten to me and I'd like it to stay please and thank you.

I finally watched the whole first season of Ahsoka. I enjoyed some scenes but overall it did nothing to me. Initially I wanted to reblog this post by @gffa with some of my thoughts because I am very much agree with her "so much less than it could be" point of view. But. I was thinking about anything that Filoni could show us and I think I found a pattern.

I am writing fics for 15+ years, and back in my teens/early 20s I had a huge problem with writing conflicts in fics. I still suck at it, but back in the days I just completely avoided any serious conflicts both between characters and in narrative. Characters are deeply angry at each other in canon? They will speak for a half of the page and now they are best friends! X deeply hurts Y? They will speak half of the page and it will have no impact on their relationship! X suffers from trauma that can't be completely ignored in the fic? Well, I will do anything to talk about it as little as possible. X did a bad thing that will impact other characters' lifes? Either I won't show any consequences of his actions to the reader, or there will be no consequences because of some deus ex machina final.

Ahsoka show seem to have the exact same problem. It tries to have serious tone but runs away from any serious conflict. Sabine lost her family but it only briefly mentioned, she is traumatised, but never acts like a traumatised grown up woman, only like a moody teenager. Ahsoka is afraid to become just like Anakin, but it is super vague, he is just big bad and she kinda afraid to become big bad (or unintentionally turn Sabine into a big bad?.. ugh), we never seen her failing on screen, and after Anakin and Ahsoka talked for a bit she is fine again, uwu! Ahsoka's and Sabine's past is never properly explored on screen. Sabine and Ezra never had a proper conversation about what she did. Thrawn is another vague big bad who wants to make big bad things, so we never see any character reflecting their grievances against Empire or Thrawn himself. There is a lot of space in different episodes to remind what kind of horror Empire brings to the Galaxy, but all we see is some abstract phrases about "doing what right". Also, there is nothing to show that there is a full conspiracy going on, not just a blue dude with tattered remnants of his crew and couple of fanatics waiting for him to return.

As the result everything seem superficial, stakes are artificially lowered, because if Filoni digged deeper into any character ot theme, he wouldn't be able to glaze over conflicts and serious topics.

Overall I have an impression that the show hints some dramatic events and new facinating lore, but it never actually leads anywhere. Filoni just relies on fans to overanalyze everything and find a Deep Meaning.

Its very interesting with that Fwhip gives everyone goblin babies during the time the QSMP is having its Egg arc stuff.

Im not even in the QSMP, but Ive seen so much love for the Egg arc that it seems like this wildly popular thing.

So it seems like Fwhip wants his server to have a child arc as well because its a "trend". But actually, the Empires server has already been having a long term running joke/obsession with the characters having babies.

But also, the Minecraft community as a whole has been obsessed with gay ships and the CCs to roleplay way more homoerotic. And now its reached a new stage.

Married roleplay. Playing house. Weve seen the romance, now its time for the happily ever after. Family life.

And thats just so facinating and hilarious to me.

Cause content creators create what they think the audience will like. And apparently we are so obvious that what we like is domestic life romance and so thats what they gave us.

And i wonder what that says about society and stuff.

On the whole Imperial Dragonborn vs Nord Dragonborn thing

I think the part that facinates me the most is how the Nordic Dragonborn is the anti-Imperial Dragonborn

The Imperial Dragonborn happened when Akatosh formed his covenant with Saint Alessia. The Dragonborn for the Imperials is their rightful ruler. The Dragonborn has the Divine Right to rule over the Empire, because Akatosh said so.

The Nordic Dragonborn is meant to kill dragons. The Nordic Dragonborn can absorb their souls and make sure they stay dead.

Dragons are the children of Akatosh. Akatosh who is Auriel, who ripped out the heart of Lorkhan, who is Shor, a major god in the Nordic religion.

The Nordic Dragonborn exists to kill the creation of the god who killed Shor.

The Nordic Dragonborn exists against Akatosh.

One thing I really appreciate about Skyrim as a game is that, for the most part, no one set of morals is pushed onto the player, allowing the player to decide what is right or wrong to them, and if they want to do what is right or not.

There's different plotlines that imply different sets of morals based on the characters and tasks in them but the player doesn't have to complete any of them, and a lot of the time it can be left unclear what is right at all. Even the main quest isn't a requirement, you don't have to complete it, there's no penalty for not doing that questline.

Additionally, it's more realistic in the way that it's not black and white. In the game lots of different groups do things right and things wrong. There's people who fight for a good cause but do bad things. There's people who fight for a bad cause and still end up doing things right. In that aspect it's rather similar to real life: things are more complicated than good and bad, right and wrong.

A good example, to me, is the questline following the fight between Imperials and the Stormcloaks. Neither side is wholely good or bad.

The stormcloaks are fighting for their land that the empire took over and then forced them into their treaty with the high elves that took away their right to worship Talos. Fighting for freedom from a dictatorship and freedom of religion is a good cause, arguably. But it's clear to see it isn't as simple as that. The stormcloaks hold quite a bit of prejudice towards anyone who isn't a nord, as shown as the treatment of dark elves and argonians in Windhelm. They also have caused a lot of violence and bloodshed and it is clear their leader seeks to replace the empire in Skyrim and become high king, rather than take down the dictatorship altogether.

The imperials aren't exclusively good or bad either. Many of them do seem to believe they are fighting for a good cause: putting an end to the violence and restoring peace and order. In the process though they strip people of their human rights: freedom of religion, for instance. Additionally it is shown very early on they are willing to kill anyone they believe to stand against them without any sort of a fair trial. Their system, simply put, is very restrictive and dictatorial. Also they arguably, are also racist, although it isn't quite as blatantly obvious as it is with how the stormcloaks treat non-nords in their cities. If you choose certain races, rather prejudiced and stereotyped things are said very early on (for instance if you choose a Khajiit literally the first thing said to you upon character selection is "your kind seem to always be finding trouble"). On top of that, near the end of the quest line, rather tone deaf things are said about Nords spiritual beliefs.

Additionally, neither side is made up to be universally good or bad. Depending on who you talk to or even what books you read in the game, one side or the other can be found to be made out to be better or worse. The balance leaves it to the player to decide which one really is better or worse, if they wish to at all.

This questline is just one of many examples in the game that show how complicated the game portrays things, including morality, and how it doesn't impose a single set of morals. I personally find how the game does this extremely facinating.

Peaky Blinders AU where everybody smokes weed instead of tobacco

The Shelbys first discovered weed through an ex-soldier of the colonial army (East India Company).

Thomas was sceptical at first because he knew what opium could do to your body. He was scared that his brothers would get addicted to that new drug he knew little about.

John on the other side was not afraid at all. Behind Tommys back he smoked a bowl of the good Kush and immediately fell in love with Mary Jane.

He began to meet more often with the ex-soldier who was already an experienced pothead and grew his own weed in his backyard.

He also began to smoke on his own and soon discovered the medical benefits as well. After a fight the first thing he would do was not to bandage his wounds but to light up a bowl of his favourite strain.

One day Thomas and Arthur drove to Johns house to suprise him.

When he opened the door the smoke that was trapped in the room escaped in a cloud like manner. His eyes were barely open and looked very irritated.

"What happened to you?", Arthur asked perplexed.

"Oh, I know that bloody smell. John, tell me you are not smoking that fucking flower!", Thomas growled.

"Calm down, Thomas. It helps me with the pain from all the fighting."

"Really?", Arthur asked, "Do you think it could help me with my back?"

"Sure, come in."

John prepered a great bowl full of White Widow. He started laughing as Arthur coughed his soul out of his body. Arthur fell into Johns armchair. He closed his eyes and had a big smile on his face. John was happy about his positiv reaction of sudden relaxation and prepared another bowl for himself.

"John, are you fucking kidding me?", Thomas said with an agressiv voice.

"You should try it, Tommy.", Arthur replied and started coughing again.

"C´mon you´re smoking your bloody opium every second night and now your judging me for smoking some pot."

"Drugs are bloody dangerous, John!", he shouted.

"Damn, Thomas, keep it quiet.", Arthur complained.

"It´s not dangerous. Well, it´s not worse than a cigarette. Weed has a lot of medical benefits. It can help you with pain, stress and even anxiety and depression among other things. It makes all the bad thoughts go away. Try it at least before you judge me."

"Alright, prepare me a bowl."

Thomas first experience was amazing. The weed got his creative juices flowing throughout his body. He started planning to grow his own weed to be financially independent and when an idea hit him like a train. Money. He could sell weed amongst all his friends and enemies to make them dependent on him.

"Guys, we´re starting a new business."

Thomas managed to get some seeds from connection to Amsterdam. At first they only grew weed in there backyards but they expanded quickly into green house complexes specially built for their farming efforts.

Polly was facinated by the new plant. It helped her forgetting about all the bad things that had happened to her in the past. After growing her own marijuana plants she realized how much she loved gardening and began to get deeper into the art of botany especially in regards to crossing different breeds. Her weed became to known as the strongest in all of Birmingham.

Isaiah, Finn and the other boys stopped snorting snow, which Thomas saw as a big improvement of the family.

Everyone who talks about reincarnation always seem to be the most interesting people. “I was cleopatra”  or even “I was a high priest in the Aztec empire.” That sort of thing. They always seem to be relatively important people. Where are all the turnip farmers? Historically speaking there have always been more average people than extraordinary, so why aren’t their lives remembered more often?

Me, I think I’ve lived, at least, two very average lives, except for the way I died.

I’ve had two dreams during my life, which I think are linked to past lives. Since I wasn’t exposed to any media, at the time, which could have influenced these dreams through mixed-up memories or the like.

1) I was one of two brothers in the early Victorian period. My brother and I were arguing over the inheritance from our, recently, late-father. I remember a large dish containing soup. I feel that my brother poisoned me via the soup to gain all of the inheritance.

2) I think I was one of the victims of the Hiroshima nuclear bomb. An ordinary person, caught in the blast. A quick nightmare of a fiery inferno is one thing. The inferno in Japan is another, but I have to add several other factors to it too. A) as a child I was facinated with Japan, its language and culture, and more. Maybe it was just because it’s because the whole nation seemed to be the exact opposite of my native Egland had something to do with it. Its exotic nature seemed to appeal to me. But I feel there may be something more. This is because, anytime I watch, or hear, anything about the bombing of Hiroshima, from a simple facts to very full and detailed documentary footage... I feel great feelings of horror, terror, empathy for the suffering of both the victims and survivors. I feel almost genuine pain for Hiroshima. Maybe I’m just a really empathetic person who feels for these people who suffered the worst thing humanity has had to go through; the outcome of a nuclear battle. However, I feel in my gut that it is because I have some link to the events. And it has to be in a previous life, since in this one, I was born in England in the late 80s and no one in my family has any kind of link with the miitary, let alone the projet which led to the development of nuclear weapons.

for what little we get of it, petra and edelgard’s relationship kind of facinates me, especially in recruited Petra routes. 

Like, there’s this weird kind of honour to their exchanges. It would’ve been far more beneficial and easier to have simply captured Petra from the get go or threatened her grandfather in order to force her to return but instead you get this whole thing where Edelgard says Petra is free to choose where her alliances fall but to know and understand what it means to choose otherwise. And considering that the Bernadetta/Petra paralogue says that the Church/Empire only begins to pressure Brigid after her grandfather makes the move to try give Petra’s allies soldiers, it would seem there wasn’t political pressure before this move. 

This is why i made that one comment about how i wasnt sure if it was edelgard who ordered petra’s capture fkjhsdkfhds not just because i like edelgard or am trying to “excuse” her btw. it IS plausible for her to commit an action like that in non CF routes but she also had ample opportunity to do this sort of thing more effectively beforehand, so that’s why i wondered if hubert acted indepently. regardless, they have an interesting relationship and i wish it got mined a bit more in game.

When you've been living in a big city since the the day you set foot on this earth,it can be a little difficult to living in a small town.Or at least I thought it would be difficult. Back in Yangon or as the Americans called it 'Rangoon', it's always noisy. You wake up with the sound of the traffic and the sound still goes on even when you go to sleep at nice. It is pretty hectic and crowded. Of course that's the common problem for big cities like Yangon which has more than five million populations. When I first got to Amherst,I was lost for words because of the town's quietness. I've been to quiet towns in my countries but this time,yeah it's different. Only underdeveloped towns in my country are quiet. All cites are loud,period.But here, here is a little college town decorated with scenic places and famous universities and it's quiet. I thought it would be boring to live in a town like this. I was so used to the loud environment that I grew up in that every moment here is like a dream,like reading a book about a beaitiful town on the cointry side where people usually come to see the sun and have fun on weekends. Then I realized that Amherst is not boring at all. It has it's beauty and uniqueness and I happened to like it after a few days of wondering alone in the streets. This is my last week in Amherst now and I'm very sad to leave this town behind. I will definitely miss the dining commons ,the hotel where we slept like logs and most of all ,the circle which was the starting point of our everyday adventures at Amherst. UMASS is also one hell of a university. I always wanted to study in a large university and the wish was granted thanks to the civic initiative and the department of states. What facinates me the most about this Umass is the library. It's humongous. It's literally a paradise for people like me who likes to read alot. The diversity of the students makes me feel like home. Seeing asian faces everywhere is a constant reminder that we are very much welcome here. "Amherst is a village compared to Boston'' was the what stayed in my mind after 2 days in Boston. It was a big city,we got lost a few times, the weather was hot. In the end I prefer the little quiet Amherst over his big loud brother. Our next destination is the city of dreams where all things can happen,New York. I'm going to go see the empire state building. I was a big fan of american TV shows when I was a teenager and in most the series I watch, New York is the place where magic happens. The place where people can't ever leave.I'm sure I'll like the trip very much .
