Watching Hills Elks Lodge 885 is greatful for those who could volunteer their time to help with our 2021 Flag Day celebration yesterday, especially our special guests from @troop_228_warren. Thanks also to our guests who helped make it worthwhile. Celebrating “Old Glory” one day a year helps us to recall the 13 stripes representing the original states and all the versions of the flag since the original. #NJElks #WarrenTownshipNJ #Elks #BPOE #ElksCareElksShare #Patriotism #America #FlagDay #USFlag (at Watchung Hills Elks Lodge 885) https://www.instagram.com/p/CQHb9ACBwVR/?utm_medium=tumblr

The recipient of October's Giving Tap is the Sparta Elks Lodge #2356, a non-profit located on the boardwalk at 6 West Shore Trail. Perhaps you are familiar with their made to order breakfasts that they do twice a month on Sundays. They have the best breakfast in town and priced reasonably at $8.00. All proceeds benefit local charities and help with their building maintenance. And did we mention that veterans eat free? The Sparta Elks, however, does more than cook for the public. The Sparta Elks is responsible for supporting several local charities and causes. 🍻 First, there is Elks Camp Moore, a special needs children's camp in Haskell, NJ. The Sparta Elks sends local children for an overnight camping experience at no cost to families. They also take these children to games and host several holiday parties for them throughout the year. Monies generated from the Giving Tap will help support the work that they do for these children. 🍻 In addition, the Sparta Elks lends support to our veterans, local drug awareness programs and various youth programs, as well as other causes, like our local food pantries, providing Christmas to 14 families, and the list goes on and on. They are proud to say that through their fundraising and membership efforts, they have given back over $11,000 to our community! 🍻 We can help them continue their work! Krogh's will donate $1.00 from every draft sold on the Giving Tap during the month of October to the Sparta Elks Lodge #2356, and this money will benefit the work they do for special needs children at Elks Camp Moore! Look at how @tabithagayles came through in the clutch for the evacuees that are posted up at the Elks Lodge riding out the current events at the Oroville Dam. Incredible selfless act on her part. #elkscareelksshare #elksclub #elkslodge #elkslodge423

Look at that! It looks like Warren Township’s Department of Public Works has been busy, removing some deadwood blocking access to the Somerset County equipment lot (and emergency exit), installing a few garbage cans, removing all the tires, the 300 gallon reservoir and some other surface litter. Thanks go out to the DPW guys, Superintendent Doug Buro, Mayor Victor Sordillo and our ER Danny Larsen. We can’t wait to see what it looks like after all the cleanup and landscaping is done! #Elks #elkslodge885 #warrentownshipnj #warrengrotto #elkscareelksshare (at Watchung Hills Elks #/885)

November is Elks Veterans Remembrance Month
Tumblr media
As distributed by Rick Gathen, Membership & Marketing Manager for the The Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks. “NOVEMBER IS ELKS VETERANS REMEMBRANCE MONTH” Chicago, IL, October 15 2019: An estimated twenty million Veterans live in our communities. Each with a different story, they all shared a common pledge: to support and defend this country. In an effort to honor and support these Veterans, Elks National President, Robert L. Duitsman has proclaimed November to be Veterans Remembrance Month. This November, as well as every month of the year, Elks will serve thousands of Veterans across the country. Elks volunteer at more than 340 VA Medical Centers, State Veterans Homes, clinics, transitional shelters and Veterans facilities where they plan activities, buy needed supplies, host meals and offer friendship. Elks help Veterans rehabilitate and thrive by supporting adaptive sports events, and providing therapy kits and wheelchair gloves to recovering Veterans. Most recently, Elks have pledged to help end Veteran homelessness by pledging millions of dollars to assist Veterans experiencing homelessness. Since we made this pledge just 5 years ago, we’ve helped thousands of Veterans exit or prevent homelessness. Our Elks Lodges are focal points for supporting local military members and Veterans and meeting their needs. Last year alone, the total value of Elks contributions to our nation’s Veterans was more than $50 million, and our members served hundreds of thousands of Veterans. This Veterans Remembrance Month, we urge you to join the Elks in recognition of and service to the Veterans in your community. Let us remember the words of Elk member and President John F. Kennedy who said, “As we express our gratitude, we must never forget that the highest appreciation is not to utter words but to live by them.” There are nearly 1,900 Elks Lodges across the country with a total membership of around 800,000. Elks members must be American citizens who are at least 21 years of age and must believe in God. To learn more and to join us in service, visit www.elks.org. To learn more about the Elks National Veterans Service Commission, visit www.elks.org/vets. Read the full article

Non-Profits Welcome Here
Tumblr media
One of the most challenging aspects of running a small non-profit is having a place to meet. A good meeting room provides an atmosphere that facilitates effective and decisive meetings. There's nothing wrong with a friend's living room or a library conference room. Star Bucks and Panera Bread seem not to mind meetings. However these options aren't always reliable because of their "first-come, first-serve" nature and certainly can become challenging when the number of members grows. The Watchung Hills Elks have 6.5 acres of property that include a lodge meeting hall, bandstand, picnic ground and pavilion. These are all available for rent by the public -- birthday parties, retirement celebrations, weddings, concerts, movie-nights, etc. But for non-profits in and near Warren Township, NJ, they can be rented at no charge. (Additionally if you're an Elk, you gain access to our bar/lounge and large, private swimming pool.) Read the full article
