I’ve been a part of multiple fandoms throughout the years but the sturniolo fandom is by far the most dramatic, most infuriating one.

I was a directioner when the whole Louis & Zayn smoking pot shit went down and that wasn’t nearly as bad as this bs. I think a lot of people expect too much from the triplets in regards to certain things, I think finding their fucking voting records is such an invasion of privacy, I think hating on Madi to the point of it affecting her mental health and driving her away from being in their content is heartbreaking. Then you turn around and say you miss her being in the videos? Make up your mind holy shit.

Half of the ‘fandom’ is pre teen girls who genuinely think Chris is gonna drop down on his knees and propose to them. I’m considered the ‘older’ part of the fandom so I do think I have the upper hand when it comes to thinking more logically about certain things regarding the triplets.

Constantly trying to cancel them just because they’re successful? Don’t get me wrong, I agree with over half of the things I see on tumblr about them but jfc, cash & maverick going on their pod & calling them out for the stupidest fuck shit? The whole ownership of space camp thing? The Matt hitting Nick thing?? Like what are we DOING?

TikTok bitches calling tumblr users crazy for writing smut about the triplets as if the same age range weren’t reading about Ethan Dolan fucking them sideways? Like give me a break, smut and fan fiction is gonna be a part of every fandom whether you like it or not. If you don’t… simply don’t read it!

And don’t even get me started on the mfs that take the triplets side on everything, it’s okay to disagree with a few white boys from Boston. It’s okay to not like some of the things they do! Just because Matt doesn’t like ketchup doesn’t mean you don’t have to eat it!

Not a fan of when people call Elise a victim of Mori because she's not. She's as much a part of him as he is her.

Elise quite literally is not forced to do anything she doesn't want to. Also, can she even want anything unless Mori has her want it? Can you exploit something made specifically for you to alter as you wish to fit your wants? Her bratty behavior is because Mori made her that way, not because she has any genuine disdain for things

People are worrying about a character who could not give a fuck even if she wanted to

ok the scene at the end of beast with Mori and Atsushi blew my mind and I had a lot of thoughts but it got kinda long so I’ll be nice and put a read more

Mori’s character changes in beast are SO interesting to me and Elise being older in beast is a VERY significant detail regarding his growth imo. the only other time Elise changes is between Yosano’s time with Mori and after Mori loses her, where Elise went from emotionless and a bit older (a teenager, I think?), to a bratty child, somewhat reminiscent of Yosano as a child.

this line also reminded me of Yosano’s backstory and how Mori uses violence to force Yosano into using her ability so he can keep his undying army

essentially, when Mori had this mindset of using violence and fear to manipulate people (CHILDREN), losing Yosano made Elise change into a child that tries to defy him, the sort of relationship he had with Yosano, except Elise can never escape Mori. in beast, where he realizes that a child should never be treated that way, Elise changes in the complete opposite way, becoming an adult. Mori also doesn’t seem to patronize her like he did when she appeared as a child.

the other detail that really stuck out to me was how Mori was described as “the man who raised Dazai.” despite technically being his boss Mori really was like a father to Dazai considering their closeness, Dazai’s young age and lack of parents, and Mori saying Dazai reminded him of himself. Mori’s inability to save Dazai being what led to Mori taking in Atsushi feels a lot like a parent failing one child, realizing their own faults, and trying to do better for their other kid (not that that’s always how it goes…) which perhaps is the reason for Mori’s changed philosophies. Mori saying he’ll take Atsushi in as his son instead of his student is like Mori fully accepting his fatherhood role instead of… sort of half-assing it by trying to raise a child and a tool like with Dazai. raising children in an orphanage is maybe a better idea than doing it in a mafia organization, or so I’m learning

also because of all that, Atsushi being Mori’s son sort of makes Atsushi like Dazai’s little brother which I think is sweet

just had the concept of Percy going back in time to save Fred but not being able to with 100% certainty and having to try to run to save him or save someone else that he'd have a far higher chance of success with pop in my head

like her character writing is actually pretty good outside of her Dogshit Circumstances? There's a definite evolution you can see in her interactions with Eggman, how at first she's just sitting around waiting for rescue, but then she starts ignoring him and talking back, and then she fucking Jumps Off The Eggmobile, because Fuck You, that's just a great microcosm of Sonic's influence on her.

Plus the game's willingness to have her outright state that she doesn't care about the world when she's holding the eternal flame. Sonic's writing is pretty Bad in this game he is the weak point of all 1 on 1 scenes w Elise but it's palbatable in Elise how being around him changed her, and encouraged her to be more selfish. Elise asking Sonic if he always sees beautiful places like this when he takes her to the meadow... It's not at all about being In Love With Sonic at the forefront (in fact, in their scenes, Sonic is the one who acts lovestruck, which is another point against his characterization in 06 i think...), rather that she admires Sonic's free lifestyle and she wants that. She wants to run like that after the first time Sonic took her hand and told her to run, she wants to see so much more of the world than just Soleanna.

And that clashes veeeery nicely with her duty as The Princess. She says she loves her people and her country, but she truly wants to be free of her duty. AND YET she still chooses to negotiate with Eggman when the city is threatened, and she still chooses to put out the flame even if it means losing her memories of freedom, and all her time with Sonic.

There's a pretty clear dichotomy of duty vs freedom, selfishness vs selflessness. In fact, I'd wager to say that Elise might be the best written character in the game. She has the clearest arc and the clearest emotional conflict with the strongest resolution.

It truly is just the circumstances... The constant kidnappings immediately after rescue are trite, Sonic's blandness drags her down and there's a lot of missed opportunities. For example, she never gets to connect the dots that her father sealed Iblis within her. She never gets to talk to Blaze, who has the same struggle with duty.

Her "hateable" moments really are pretty minor. The "I was able to be myself… a girl." line for example has a pretty bad delivery, but looking under the veneer of the forced romance, the preceeding line of "It [this adventure] allowed me to be something other than a Princess." really just means Elise is delighted that she just gets to be... a person. outside of her duty, for once.

I've talked about this with idw amy before, I think, but I really do like using Sonic as a Symbol like this, where love for him is not really love for him as a person in a romantic way, but for all he represents and brings to others. And it's the same with Elise here. She doesn't want to let go of him, she thinks about how he's going to leave once the day is saved and she hates it, not just because she loves Sonic as a guy, but because it means going back to her confined day to day life. That the fresh breath of air that is Sonic in her stale days will be gone, and she'll be back to square zero.
