What Is The Main Ingredient of WD-40?
Before you read to the end, does anybody know what the main ingredient of WD-40?
No Cheating.....
WD-40 ~ Who knew!
I had a neighbour who bought a new pickup.
I got up very early one Sunday morning and saw that someone had spray
painted red all around the sides of this beige truck (for some unknown
reason).
I went over, woke him up, and told him the bad news.
He was very upset and was trying to figure out what to do ....
probably nothing until Monday morning, since nothing was open.
Another neighbour came out and told him to get his WD-40 and clean it off.
It removed the unwanted paint beautifully and did not harm his paint
job that was on the truck. I was impressed!
WD-40 who knew?
"Water Displacement #40".
The product began from a search for a rust preventative solvent and
degreaser to protect missile parts.
WD-40 was created in 1953, by three technicians at the San Diego
Rocket Chemical Company.
Its name comes from the project that was to find a 'Water
Displacement' Compound.
They were finally successful for a formulation, with their fortieth
attempt, thus WD-40. The 'Convair Company' bought it in bulk to
protect their atlas missile parts.
Ken East (one of the original founders) says there is nothing in WD-40
that would hurt you.
When you read the 'shower door' part, try it. It's the first thing
that has ever cleaned that spotty shower door. If yours is plastic,
it works just as well as on glass. It's a miracle!
Then try it on your stove-top.
It's now shinier than it's ever been.
You'll be amazed.
WD-40 Uses:
1. Protects silver from tarnishing.
2. Removes road tar and grime from cars.
3. Cleans and lubricates guitar strings.
4. Gives floor that 'just-waxed' sheen without making them slippery.
5. Keeps the flies off of Cows, Horses, and other Farm Critters.
6. Restores and cleans chalkboards.
7. Removes lipstick stains.
8. Loosens stubborn zippers.
9. Untangles jewellery chains.
10. Removes stains from stainless steel sinks.
11. Removes dirt and grime from the barbecue grill.
12. Keeps ceramic/terracotta garden pots from oxidising.
13. Removes tomato stains from clothing.
14. Keeps glass shower doors free of water spots.
15. Camouflages scratches in ceramic and marble floors.
16. Keeps scissors working smoothly.
17. Lubricates noisy door hinges on both home and vehicles doors.
18. It removes that nasty tar and scuff marks from the kitchen
flooring. It doesn't seem to harm the finish and you won't have to
scrub nearly as hard to get them off. Just remember to open some
windows if you have a lot of marks.
19. Remove those nasty bug guts that will eat away the finish
on your car if not removed quickly!
20. Gives a children's playground gym slide a shine for a super fast slide.
21. Lubricates gearshift and mower deck lever for ease of handling on
riding mowers.
22. Rids kids rocking chair and swings of squeaky noises.
23. Lubricates tracks in sticking home windows and makes them easier to open.
24. Spraying an umbrella stem makes it easier to open and close.
25. Restores and cleans padded leather dashboards in vehicles, as well
as vinyl bumpers.
26. Restores and cleans roof racks on vehicles.
27. Lubricates and stops squeaks in electric fans.
28. Lubricates wheel sprockets on tricycles, wagons and bicycles for
easy handling.
29. Lubricates fan belts on washers and dryers and keeps them running smoothly.
30. Keeps rust from forming on saws and saw blades, and other tools.
31. Removes grease splatters from stove-tops.
32. Keeps bathroom mirror from fogging.
33. Lubricates prosthetic limbs.
34. Keeps pigeons off the balcony (they hate the smell).
35. Removes all traces of duct tape.
36. Folks even spray it on their arms, hands, and knees to relieve
arthritis pain.
37. Florida 's favourite use is: 'cleans and removes love bugs from
grills and bumpers.'
38. The favourite use in the state of New York , it protects the Statue
of Liberty from the elements.
39. WD-40 attracts fish. Spray a little on live bait or lures and you
will be catching the big one in no time. Also, it's a lot cheaper than
the chemical attractants that are made for just that purpose. Keep
in mind though, using some chemical laced baits or lures for fishing
are not allowed in some states.
40. Use it for fire ant bites. It takes the sting away immediately and
stops the itch.
41. It is great for removing crayon from walls. Spray it on the marks
and wipe with a clean rag.
42. Also, if you've discovered that your teenage daughter has washed
and dried a tube of lipstick with a load of laundry, saturate the
lipstick spots with WD-40 and rewash. Presto! The lipstick is gone!
43. If you spray it inside a wet distributor cap, it will displace the
moisture, allowing the engine to start.
My discovery, Ants don't like it..................
P.S.
As for that Basic, Main Ingredient.......
Well.... it's FISH OIL....
Now This Is Definitely Worth SHARING!!

This month's car review (from a Navi magazine)
difficult for men
Nissan March Cabriolet (CVT) 1.79 million yen
NISSAN MARCH CABRIOLET
The ``Cabriolet'' has been added to Nissan's ``cash cow'' March, with approximately 300,000 units sold each year around the world.
This model was originally exhibited as a reference at the 31st Tokyo Motor Show, but it was decided to go on sale this time because ``many customers requested that it be commercially available.'' However, it's already been two years since the last motor show, so I can't help but wonder, ``Why now?''
Regarding this, when the current March was announced in 1992, it was declared that there would be no model changes for 10 years. However, if we think about the next five years, we cannot rest on our laurels, so we announced the Cabriolet as the top grade of the March brand, creating a buzz and drawing attention to the March again. This seems to be a more realistic reason. It is produced by Takada Kogyo, a Nissan affiliate company that also produced the previous March-based Be-1 and Pao.
The exterior of the March Cabriolet is quite cute. In addition to simply removing the roof, a light notch was added to the rear end of the body to tighten the buttocks.
It somehow reminds me of the Peugeot 205 cabriolet.
The interior is basically the same as the March, but the seat fabric is modeled after a Milan city map and is exclusive to the Cabriolet. The chic sand beige hood is electric, so it doesn't take much time or effort to open or close it, and it only needs to be locked in two places at the top of the front window. The lowered top fits almost within the waistline of the body, but in order to secure that space, the interior length is about 10cm shorter than that of a hatchback. As a result, the rear seat has just enough space to accommodate two adults.
Unfortunately, the sky was cloudy that day, but it felt great to drive fully open on the highland roads around Risonare Kobuchizawa, which was the base for the test ride. Generally speaking, a 4-seater that opens up has a wide opening, which means that the wind is forced into the cabin, but in the case of the March, the high A-pillar of the tall boy style remains, so the side windows can be opened. Once you raise it up, the wind doesn't really bother you.
The closed-body March is available with two engines, 1ℓ and 1.3ℓ, but only the 1.3ℓ, which produces 79 ps, is available in the Cabriolet. However, due to the reinforcements added to the open body, the vehicle weighs 110kg more than before, so its power performance is on par with the liter version of a hatchback. When you step on the accelerator, the exhaust pipe emits a brave sound, but the speed does not increase as much as that sound. A roll bar (which guarantees safety in the event of a fall) is installed to ensure rigidity.
Although the roof rails (which Nissan calls them ``roof rails'') are still in place, the floor trembles when you go over a large step. Well, in any case, it's not so much that it's a hindrance to driving normally around town.
According to the person in charge of development, the keyword for the development of the March Cabriolet was ``a usable cabriolet.'' To achieve this, we focused on four points: (1) electric soft top, (2) heated glass rear window, (3) 4-seater seating, and (4) trunk-through mechanism. By the way, the Fiat Punto Cabrio, which is seen as a rival, does not have (2), and the Toyota・The Cynos Convertible does not have ① or ④. The price of the Punto is 2.45 million yen, and the advanced grade Cynos is 2.103 million yen. The March on the other hand costs 1.79 million yen for the NCVT specification, so it can be said that the March has the advantage in terms of equipment and price.
Regarding the March Cabriolet, I thought the styling was good and the construction of each part was okay, but to be honest, I felt like it was a little out of place. So, I thought, ``Why is that?'' But in the end, I thought that the March Cabriolet was too cute, or rather, it gave the impression that it was ``for girls.'' It was said to be strong. At least I can't imagine myself, a 30-year-old man, driving one, or rather, I don't really want to imagine it.
March Cabriolet, difficult for men. (Kawanishi)
PIC CAPTIONS
The March Cabriolet has a total length x width x width = 3720 x 1585 x 1430mm, and is 25mm longer and 5mm taller than the closed body. The body color is green, red, and silver as shown in the photo. Regardless of the body color, it is combined with a beige hood. Standard equipment includes air conditioning, power steering, front seat double airbags, ABS, and seatbelt pretensioners. The price is 1.79 million yen for the CVT model and 1.69 million yen for the 5MT model.

The Evolution of Automobiles: A Journey Through Time
Tumblr media
Introduction
The history of automobiles is a fascinating tale of innovation, determination, and human ingenuity. From the earliest steam-powered contraptions to the sleek electric vehicles of today, cars have shaped our lives, economies, and landscapes. Let’s embark on a journey through time to explore the milestones, inventors, and revolutions that define the world of automobiles.
1. The Pioneers
a. Nicolas-Joseph Cugnot and the Steam Carriage (1769)
In a small workshop in France, Nicolas-Joseph Cugnot built the first self-propelled vehicle. His steam-powered carriage, known as the “Fardier à vapeur,” could carry passengers and cargo. Although slow and cumbersome, it marked the birth of the automobile.
b. Karl Benz and the Benz Patent-Motorwagen (1886)
Fast-forward to the late 19th century. Karl Benz, a German engineer, unveiled the Benz Patent-Motorwagen. It was the first true automobile powered by an internal combustion engine running on gasoline. With three wheels, a single-cylinder engine, and a top speed of 16 km/h (10 mph), the Motorwagen revolutionized transportation.
2. The Model T Era
a. Henry Ford and the Model T (1908)
Henry Ford’s vision was to make cars accessible to everyone. In 1908, he introduced the Model T, an affordable, mass-produced vehicle. The assembly line revolutionized manufacturing, and soon, millions of Model Ts rolled off the production line. The car became a symbol of progress and freedom.
3. The Roaring Twenties and Streamlined Designs
a. Art Deco and Streamlining
The 1920s witnessed a shift in car design. Art Deco influences brought elegance and symmetry to automobile aesthetics. Streamlining, inspired by aviation, emphasized sleek curves and aerodynamic shapes. Cars like the Chrysler Airflow and the Bugatti Type 57 exemplified this trend.
4. Post-War Boom and Muscle Cars
a. Post-World War II Boom
After World War II, car production soared. Families embraced sedans like the Chevrolet Bel Air and the Ford Fairlane. The 1950s saw tailfins, chrome, and optimism. Drive-in theaters and roadside diners became part of the American dream.
b. Muscle Cars and Horsepower Wars
The 1960s brought muscle cars—powerful, V8-engine beasts. The Ford Mustang, Chevrolet Camaro, and Dodge Charger ruled the streets. The horsepower wars escalated, and drag racing became a cultural phenomenon.
5. Environmental Concerns and Innovations
a. Oil Crisis and Compact Cars
The 1970s oil crisis shifted priorities. Compact cars like the Volkswagen Beetle and Toyota Corolla gained popularity. Fuel efficiency and emissions control became critical.
b. Hybrid and Electric Cars
In the 21st century, environmental awareness led to hybrid and electric vehicles. The Toyota Prius pioneered hybrid technology, while Tesla’s electric cars redefined performance and sustainability.
6. The Road Ahead: Autonomous Vehicles and Beyond
a. Autonomous Driving
Self-driving cars are no longer science fiction. Companies like Waymo and Tesla are pushing the boundaries of autonomy. The future promises safer roads and shared mobility.
b. Sustainability and Beyond
As we move forward, sustainability remains paramount. Hydrogen fuel cells, solar-powered cars, and urban mobility solutions will shape the next chapters in automotive history.
Conclusion
From steam carriages to electric supercars, the automobile’s evolution mirrors our progress as a society. Each turn of the wheel brings new challenges, innovations, and dreams. So, fasten your seatbelt—we’re still on an exhilarating ride

Chinese electric cars may become pricier in the European Union (EU) after politicians called them a threat to its own industry.
It has "provisionally concluded" that Chinese electric vehicle (EV) manufacturers will face tariffs from 4 July "should discussions with Chinese authorities not lead to an effective solution".
The EU's announcement comes as it continues an investigation into what it claims is a flood of cheap, government-subsidised Chinese cars into the trade bloc.
China alleged the tariffs violated international trade rules and described the investigation as "protectionism".
EV makers who co-operated with the investigation, which the EU's governing European Commission launched in October, will face an average 21% duty, while those who did not will face one of 38.1%.
Meanwhile, specific charges will apply to three companies:
BYD: 17.4%
Geely: 20%
SAIC: 38.1%
Non-Chinese car companies who produce some EVs in China, including EU-based ones like BMW, will also be affected.
The commission said Tesla may receive an "individually calculated duty rate" because of a specific request it had made.
These charges would come on top of the current rate of 10% tariff levied on all electric cars produced in China.
The EU's intervention comes after the US made the much bolder move of raising its tariff on Chinese electric cars from 25% to 100% last month.
The decision has drawn criticism not just from China, but also from politicians within the EU and several industry figures.
China's foreign ministry spokesperson In Jian said the "anti-subsidy investigation is a typical case of protectionism".
He added that the tariffs might also risk damaging "China-EU economic and trade co-operation and the stability of the global automobile production and supply chain".
The tariffs will apply definitively from November unless there is a qualified majority of EU states - 15 countries representing at least 65% of the bloc's population - voting against the move.
Germany's Transport Minister, Volker Wissing, said it risked a "trade war" with Beijing.
"The European Commission's punitive tariffs hit German companies and their top products," he wrote on X, formerly known as Twitter.
The ACEA, the European Automobile Manufacturers' Association, said that "free and fair trade" was essential in making sure that the European car industry remains competitive.
They added, however, that it was just one piece of the puzzle when thinking about how to boost the adoption of electric cars.
Mercedes-Benz and Stellantis — which owns Citroën, Peugeot, Vauxhall, Fiat, and several other brands — also spoke out, emphasising the importance of free trade.
Stellantis said it does not support measures that "contribute to the world fragmentation [of trade]".
Some EU car companies have called for a bloc-wide industrial policy to deal with global competition.
Last year, more than eight million electric vehicles were sold in China – about 60% of the global total, according to the International Energy Agency’s annual Global EV Outlook.

Long-Lost US Submarine From World War II Found off Japan
The long-lost wreckage of a U.S. Navy submarine credited with sinking nearly a dozen enemy ships during World War II before vanishing in late 1944 has been found off the coast of northern Japan, Navy officials announced Thursday.
The USS Albacore’s wreckage was confirmed by the Naval History and Heritage Command’s Underwater Archaeology Branch after it was located recently off the coast of Hokkaido, the northernmost of Japan’s main islands, the Navy said in a news release. The NHHC used information and imagery provided by Tamaki Ura, a University of Tokyo professor who has specialized in developing autonomous underwater vehicles to confirm the identity of the submarine. The Albacore disappeared while patrolling in the Pacific Ocean and had at least 85 sailors aboard.
“As the final resting place for [U.S.] sailors who gave their life in defense of our nation, we sincerely thank and congratulate Dr. Ura and his team for their efforts in locating the wreck of Albacore,” Samuel Cox, the director of the NHHC, said in a statement. “It is through their hard work and continued collaboration that we could confirm Albacore’s identity after being lost at sea for over 70 years.”
The Albacore was last heard from by the U.S. military on Oct. 28, 1944, when it stopped at Midway for fuel en route for its 11th combat patrol in the waters off northern Japan, according to Naval records. The Gato-class submarine was believed sunk in a Nov. 7, 1944, underwater explosion reported in Japanese military records, likely the result of hitting an underwater mine. The location of the ship’s wreckage appeared to confirm those details, according to the Navy.
Before the sub’s sinking, the Albacore had proved a capable warship. The vessel was built by the Electric Boat Company and commissioned into the Navy on June 1, 1942. The Navy credited the submarine with sinking at least 10 enemy ships during its brief tenure — earning the Albacore nine battle stars for meritorious participation in battle and four Presidential Unit Citations for extraordinary heroism in combat. The Navy said the Albacore might have been responsible for sinking three additional ships during the war, but those have not been confirmed.
Among the sub’s known sinkings were Japanese destroyers, freighters and the 31,000-ton Japanese aircraft carrier Taiho, then the newest and largest carrier in the Japanese fleet. Taiho sunk hours after being struck by a torpedo fired by the Albacore during the Battle of the Philippine Sea, according to the Navy. The Albacore’s crew did not know at the time that they had sunk the flagship after diving deep to escape incoming aerial attacks. Months later, the Albacore’s top officer at that time, Lt. Cmdr. James Blanchard, was awarded the Navy Cross, the service’s second-highest honor for combat heroics, for his role in sinking the Taiho.
The Navy said Ura used unmanned underwater craft to locate the Albacore based on Japanese records documenting the Nov. 7, 1944, explosion off Hokkaido.
“Strong currents, marine growth and poor visibility on site made it challenging to fully document the wreck or obtain comprehensive images,” the Navy statement said. “However, several key features of a late 1944 Gato-class submarine were identified in the video.”
Those features included the presence of a SJ Radar dish and mast, a row of vent holes along the top of the superstructure and the absence of steel plates along the ship’s upper edge consistent with the Albacore’s construction at the time that the submarine was last seen, according to the Navy.
The Albacore’s wreckage now falls under the NHHC’s jurisdiction and is protected from intrusion by U.S. law, the Navy said.
“The wreck represents the final resting place of sailors that gave their life in defense of the nation and should be respected by all parties as a war grave,” the Navy statement reads.

Ford Shuts Down in Brazil, and China’s Top EV Maker Comes to the Rescue
President Lula, seeking an industrial revival, snubs the US and looks to its No. 1 rival.
Tumblr media
On Brazil’s east coast, the vast parking lot off Avenida Henry Ford sits empty. Shift workers once packed these spaces, next to a Ford Motor Co. plant that covers 1.8 square miles—an area larger than New York’s Central Park. On a recent weekday, a lone security car patrols its perimeter, the only sign of life.
Allison Barreto Sousa, a Ford maintenance technician for almost two decades, remembers when the company decided two years ago to shut down the plant, along with its entire operations in Brazil. Ford had a final ask: Could Sousa join a crew of 10 to perform the industrial equivalent of the last rites? They’d dismantle, piece by piece, the same equipment they’d once installed and maintained, so it could be packed up and shipped away. Sousa started the work, but memories of colleagues flooded his mind. He just couldn’t do it. “When I got married, I was at Ford. When my children were born, I was at Ford—all my good memories are somehow connected to Ford,” says Sousa, now 39. But then, “out of nowhere, came the silence. I asked not to come back.”
Today, Sousa hopes he can, no thanks to Ford. The new economic power in town is China—and its largest electric-vehicle maker, BYD Co. Those initials stand for “Build Your Dreams,” a phrase that very much reflects the hopes of Sousa and hundreds of his idled former co-workers. BYD is wrapping up negotiations with Ford to buy the shut-down factory in Camaçari, about 30 miles north of Salvador, the state capital of Bahia. (Ford says talks are continuing.) When the plant opens as expected later this year, it will be BYD’s most extensive electric-vehicle operation outside Asia.
The resurrection of the former Ford plant represents the grand industrial ambitions of President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, widely known as Lula. Much like US President Joe Biden, Lula dreams of spurring a manufacturing renaissance. Both leaders are eager to provide blue-collar jobs that can support middle-class lives, fulfilling campaign promises. But there’s an essential—and, for the US, vexing—difference: Biden aims to maintain an advantage over China in key technologies. Lula, a leftist who took office in January, is looking to China as the country’s benefactor.

The island of Sulawesi is a hub for the mineral-rich country's production of nickel, a base metal used for electric vehicle batteries and stainless steel, and Beijing's growing investment has stoked unrest over working conditions at its facilities.
The accident occurred around 5:30 am (2130 GMT Saturday) at a plant owned by PT Indonesia Tsingshan Stainless Steel (ITSS) in the Morowali Industrial Park in Central Sulawesi province, a spokesperson for the complex said in a statement.
"(The death toll) increased by one person, from 12 to 13," he told AFP, also revising the number of injured down one to 38.
He identified the dead as eight Indonesians and five Chinese workers.
An initial investigation showed the explosion happened during repair work on a furnace when a flammable liquid ignited and the subsequent blast caused nearby oxygen tanks to explode as well, the official said.
The fire was extinguished Sunday morning, according to the statement.
Tsingshan Holding Group, the world's biggest nickel producer and China's biggest stainless steelmaker, holds a majority stake in ITSS.
ITSS is a tenant in the industrial park, which is also majority owned by Tsingshan along with local partner Bintang Delapan.
Safety fears
The firm that runs the industrial park said it was "deeply saddened by this disaster, particularly for the families affected".
It said the remains of several identified victims had been flown home.
Footage shared with AFP showed plumes of smoke emerging from the facility with emergency services at the scene and workers looking on.
A photo shared with AFP showed the bodies of the victims lined up on top of orange body bags in a room in one of the clinics at the industrial complex.
"Their faces were burnt, their clothes were all burnt," a worker at the industrial complex told AFP on condition of anonymity.
Acting Morowali district head Rachmansyah Ismail told broadcaster Kompas TV that as of Sunday afternoon 25 of the injured -- 15 Indonesians and 10 foreign nationals -- had been immediately rushed to hospital after the blast.
Seventeen were seriously injured while eight suffered moderate injuries, he said.
In January, two workers including a Chinese national were killed at a nickel smelting plant in the same industrial park after a riot broke out during a protest over safety conditions and pay.
Deadly fires are not uncommon in Indonesia, a sprawling country of more than 250 million people where safety regulations are often flouted.
In June a fire at the same plant left one dead and six others injured, in another incident that has stoked concern over safety at facilities funded and operated by Chinese companies.
The facility where the riot and fire took place is operated by PT Gunbuster Nickel Industry (GNI), a local unit of China's Jiangsu Delong Nickel Industry.

For now, Alex Lagetko is holding on to his Tesla stocks. The founder of hedge fund VSO Capital Management in New York, Lagetko says his stake in the company was worth $46 million in November 2021, when shares in the electric carmaker peaked at $415.
Since then, they have plunged 72 percent, as investors worry about waning demand, falling production and price cuts in China, labor shortages in Europe, and, of course, the long-term impact of CEO Elon Musk’s $44 billion acquisition of Twitter. After announcing his plans to buy the platform in April, Musk financed his acquisition with $13 billion in loans and $33 billion in cash, roughly $23 billion of which was raised by selling shares in Tesla.
“Many investors, particularly retail, who invested disproportionately large sums of their wealth largely on the basis of trust in Musk over many years were very quickly burned in the months following the acquisition,” Lagetko says, “particularly in December as he sold more stock, presumably to fund losses at Twitter.”
Lagetko is worried that the leveraged buyout of Twitter has left Tesla exposed, as interest payments on the debt Musk took on to fund the takeover come due at the same time as the social media company’s revenues have slumped.
But Tesla stock was already falling in April 2022, when Musk launched his bid for Twitter, and analysts say that the carmaker’s challenges run deeper than its exposure to the struggling social media platform. Tesla and its CEO have alienated its core customers while its limited designs and high prices make it vulnerable to competition from legacy automakers, who have rushed into the EV market with options that Musk’s company will struggle to match.
Prior to 2020, Tesla was essentially “playing against a B team in a soccer match,” says Matthias Schmidt, an independent analyst in Berlin who tracks electric car sales in Europe. But that changed in 2020, as “the opposition started rolling out some of their A squad players.”
In 2023, Tesla is due to release its long-awaited Cybertruck, a blocky, angular SUV first announced in 2019. It is the first new launch of a consumer vehicle by the company since 2020. A promised two-seater sports car is still years away, and the Models S, X, Y, and 3, once seen as space-age dynamos, are now “long in the tooth,” says Mark Barrott, an automotive analyst at consultancy Plante Moran. Most auto companies refresh their looks every three to five years—Tesla’s Model S is now more than 10 years old.
By contrast, this year Ford plans to boost production of both its F-150 Lighting EV pick-up, already sold out for 2023, and its Mustang Mach-E SUV. Offerings from Hyundai IONIQ 5 and Kia EV6 could threaten Tesla’s Model Y and Model 3 in the $45,000 to $65,000 range. General Motors plans to speed up production and cut costs for a range of EV models, including the Chevy Blazer EV, the Chevy Equinox, the Cadillac Lyric, and the GMC Sierra EV.
While Tesla’s designs may be eye-catching, their high prices mean that they’re now often competing with luxury brands.
“There is this kind of nice Bauhaus simplicity to Tesla’s design, but it’s not luxurious,” says David Welch, author of Charging Ahead: GM, Mary Barra, and the Reinvention of an American Icon. “And for people to pay $70,000 to $100,000 for a car, if you’re competing suddenly with an electric Mercedes or BMW, or a Cadillac that finally actually feels like something that should bear the Cadillac name, you’re going to give people something to think about.”
While few manufacturers can compete with Tesla on performance and software (the Tesla Model S goes to 60 mph in 1.99 seconds, reaches a 200-mph top speed, and boasts automatic lane changing and a 17-inch touchscreen for console-grade gaming), many have reached or are approaching a range of 300 miles (480 km), which is the most important consideration for many EV buyers, says Craig Lawrence, a partner and cofounder at the investment group Energy Transition Ventures.
One of Tesla’s main competitive advantages has been its supercharging network. With more than 40,000 proprietary DC fast chargers located on major thoroughfares near shopping centers, coffee shops, and gas stations, their global infrastructure is the largest in the world. Chargers are integrated with the cars’ Autobidder optimization & dispatch software, and, most importantly, they work quickly and reliably, giving a car up to 322 miles of range in 15 minutes. The network contributes to about 12 percent of Tesla sales globally.
“The single biggest hurdle for most people asking ‘Do I go EV or not,’ is how do I refuel it and where,” says Loren McDonald, CEO and lead analyst for the consultancy EVAdoption. “Tesla figured that out early on and made it half of the value proposition.”
But new requirements for funding under public charging infrastructure programs in the US may erode Tesla’s proprietary charging advantage. The US National Electric Vehicle Infrastructure Program will allocate $7.5 billion to fund the development of some 500,000 electric vehicle chargers, but to access funds to build new stations, Tesla will have to open up its network to competitors by including four CCC chargers.
“Unless Tesla opens up their network to different charging standards, they will not get any of that volume,” Barrott says. “And Tesla doesn’t like that.”
In a few years, the US public charging infrastructure may start to look more like Europe’s, where in many countries the Tesla Model 3 uses standard plugs, and Tesla has opened their Supercharging stations to non-Tesla vehicles.
Tesla does maintain a software edge over competitors, which have looked to third-party technology like Apple’s CarPlay to fill the gap, says Alex Pischalnikov, an auto analyst and principal at the consulting firm Arthur D. Little. With over-the-air updates, Tesla can send new lines of code over cellular networks to resolve mechanical problems and safety features, update console entertainment options, and surprise drivers with new features, such as heated rear seats and the recently released full self-driving beta, available for $15,000. These software updates are also a cash machine for Tesla. But full self-driving features aren’t quite as promised, since drivers still have to remain in effective control of the vehicle, limiting the value of the system.
A Plante Moran analysis shared with WIRED shows Tesla’s share of the North American EV market declining from 70 percent in 2022 to just 31 percent by 2025, as total EV production grows from 777,000 to 2.87 million units.
In Europe, Tesla’s decline is already underway. Schmidt says data from the first 11 months of 2022 shows sales by volume of Volkswagen’s modular electric drive matrix (MEB) vehicles outpaced Tesla’s Model Y and Model 3 by more than 20 percent. His projections show Tesla’s product lines finishing the year with 15 percent of the western European electric vehicle market, down from 33 percent in 2019.
The European Union has proposed legislation to reduce carbon emissions from new cars and vans by 100 percent by 2035, which is likely to bring more competition from European carmakers into the market.
There is also a growing sense that Musk’s behavior since taking over Twitter has made a challenging situation for Tesla even worse.
Over the past year, Musk has used Twitter to call for the prosecution of former director of the US National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases Anthony Fauci (“My pronouns are Prosecute/Fauci”), take swings at US senator from Vermont Bernie Sanders over government spending and inflation, and placed himself at the center of the free speech debate. He’s lashed out at critics, challenging, among other things, the size of their testicles.
A November analysis of the top 100 global brands by the New York–based consultancy Interbrand estimated Tesla’s brand value in 2022 at $48 billion, up 32 percent from 2021 but well short of its 183 percent growth between 2020 and 2021. The report, based on qualitative data from 1,000 industry consultants and sentiment analysis of published sources, showed brand strength declining, particularly in “trust, distinctiveness and an understanding of the needs of their customers.”
“I think [Musk’s] core is rapidly moving away from him, and people are just starting to say, ‘I don’t like the smell of Tesla; I don’t want to be associated with that,’” says Daniel Binns, global chief growth officer at Interbrand.
Among them are once-loyal customers. Alan Saldich, a semi-retired tech CMO who lives in Idaho, put a deposit down on a Model S in 2011, before the cars were even on the road, after seeing a bodiless chassis in a Menlo Park showroom. His car, delivered in 2012, was number 2799, one of the first 3,000 made.
He benefited from the company’s good, if idiosyncratic, customer service. When, on Christmas morning 2012, the car wouldn’t start, he emailed Musk directly seeking a remedy. Musk responded just 24 minutes later: “...Will see if we can diagnose and fix remotely. Sorry about this. Hope you otherwise have a good Christmas.”
On New Year’s Day, Joost de Vries, then vice president of worldwide service at Tesla, and an assistant showed up at Saldich’s house with a trailer, loaded the car onto a flatbed, and hauled it to Tesla’s plant in Fremont, California, to be repaired. Saldich and his family later even got a tour of the factory. But since then, he’s cooled on the company. In 2019, he sold his Model S, and now drives a Mini Electric. He’s irritated in particular, he says, by Musk’s verbal attacks on government programs and regulation, particularly as Tesla has benefited from states and federal EV tax credits.
“Personally, I probably wouldn’t buy another Tesla,” he says. “A, because there’s so many alternatives and B, I just don’t like [Musk] anymore.”

This 1912 C-T electric truck is a heavy-duty four-wheel drive Model A 10 that was produced by the Commercial Truck Company of Philadelphia. All 22 of these trucks were originally open-air with a simple folding top. However, at some point the Charles Wacker Company built and installed the more modern closed cab on 20. Red oak was used for the construction of the cab and it matches the rest of the vehicle. The truck bed however is two sections of 1/4″ thick steel plate over 2″ thick red oak, and it is secured by over 500 bolts–this kind of incredible over-building is likely a large contributor to so many surviving 100+ years later. The yellow area below the bed is the battery compartment, and while pneumatic tires were available, solid rubber items were specced from new here. The steering and throttle are both combined on the single vertical shaft seen here. The spokes can be seen, but the rims for both wheels are missing. The top wheel was for steering, and the lower wheel controlled the throttle which handled both forward and reverse. Turning it clockwise accelerated the truck forward, an opposite movement slowed or reversed the truck–a foot brake was also provided. Each wheel is backed by one 85-volt, 10-amp General Electric motor. The each produced 16 HP when new, and give the truck true four wheel drive. In the battery compartment, nine trays were used to hold a 500 pound, five-foot-long lead-acid battery pack that produced 10 volts. Today five modern 12-volt batteries can replace the 45 originals for full power, but according to the seller just one 12-volt will suffice to move it. Interestingly, the seller says each truck could operate for 22 hours (unladen) on a single charge. A full recharge took two hours, battery units could be swapped (technology the Curtis Publishing Company employed), and ten years of service was possible before needing to rebuild the batteries. #ev #electrictruck #electrictrucks #electric #batterypowered #cdljob #cdljobs #cdlhunter #ayearago #throwback🔙 #100yearsago #rustytruck #rustytrucks #throwbackpic #yearsago #thosewerethedays #throwbacks #thursdaythrowback #throwback #workingtruck #workingtrucks #history #vintage (at United States) https://www.instagram.com/p/ClbAUEIuhvC/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

Congressional Republicans have laid out their mega MAGA trickle-down economic plan clearly. Their economic plan will raise costs and make inflation worse. Their five part plan includes:
1. $3 TRILLION IN TAX CUTS SKEWED TO THE WEALTHY – WHICH WOULD ADD TO THE DEFICIT AND MAKE INFLATION WORSE
“GOP wants to push to extend Trump tax cuts… Republican lawmakers gear up to push 2017 tax law after midterm elections, despite potential impact on inflation.” — Washington Post (10/17/22)
Congressional Republicans are calling for extending expiring provisions of the Trump tax cuts and repealing Inflation Reduction Act (IRA) provisions that require large, profitable corporations to pay taxes and stop wealthy people and corporations from cheating on their taxes. These tax policies would add about $3 trillion to deficits over 10 years, Congressional Budget Office and Joint Committee on Taxation estimates have shown. By adding to near-term deficits, the tax cuts would increase inflation and work against efforts to bring inflation down in 2023.
And, these tax cuts would disproportionately benefit the wealthy. Under the Congressional Republican plan, the top 0.1% of Americans (with incomes over $4 million per year) would get tax cuts averaging over $110,000 per year, Tax Policy Center estimates show. That’s an annual tax cut that exceeds the typical American household’s total annual income.
2. RAISING PRESCRIPTION DRUG COSTS FOR MILLIONS OF SENIORS
“House GOP eyes repeal of Dems’ drug pricing law … Some key House Republicans are calling for the repeal of Democrats’ newly-passed drug pricing measure.” — Axios (9/23/22)
“Because those drug provisions are so dangerous… I would imagine [repealing the Inflation Reduction Act’s prescription drug policies] will be a top priority for Republicans in the new session.” — Rep. Kevin Brady (Ranking Member, Ways and Means Committee)
Repealing the IRA prescription drug provisions would increase prescription drug prices by eliminating the requirement that drug companies pay rebates to Medicare when they raise prices faster than inflation, as they did for 1,200 drugs from 2021-2022. It would expose millions of Medicare beneficiaries to the risk of higher costs by eliminating the IRA’s $2,000 cap on drug costs at the pharmacy, and immediately increase Medicare beneficiaries’ costs for insulin.
3. INCREASING HEALTH INSURANCE PREMIUMS
The IRA provisions making Affordable Care Act (ACA) premiums more affordable “bribe people into Obamacare,” give help to “people making over 400% of the poverty line, a group that was never intended to get subsidies under the original ACA,” “hide the true cost of health insurance,” and make “working taxpayers pay for Obamacare subsidies.” — Ways and Means Committee Minority press releases: 8/8, 8/10
Repealing the IRA improvements to ACA premium tax credits would raise health insurance premiums by an average of about $800 for 13 million people starting next year, with about 3 million people becoming uninsured. And if Congressional Republicans repeal the IRA provision that lets middle-class people get ACA premium tax credits, a 60-year old making $60,000 would pay over $10,000 for marketplace coverage in most states, versus half that today.
4. INCREASING ENERGY BILLS IN 2023 AND BEYOND
“GOP leaders have discussed using the debt limit and government shutdown fights to press for cuts to clean energy spending — which many experts view as necessary to slow climate change — approved as part of the Inflation Reduction Act, Biden’s signature economic legislation.” — Washington Post, 10/25
The Congressional GOP plan will eliminate tax credits that will save Americans thousands of dollars starting next year if they buy an electric vehicle, weatherize their homes, install a super-efficient heating and cooling system like a heat pump, install rooftop solar, or make other investments that will also directly cut their energy bills. Independent experts expect these clean energy provisions will cut households’ electricity bills by hundreds of dollars per year.
5. INCREASING STUDENT LOAN PAYMENTS
“[Student debt relief is] too significant to allow the Secretary to act without Congressional approval… This student loan debt scheme is not a legal or responsible policy…” — Rep. Virginia Foxx (Ranking Member, Education and Labor Committee) and 22 House Republicans, 9/7/22
Republican officials are suing to block the Biden administration’s student debt relief plan. If they succeed, that would mean higher debt payments for the over 40 million Americans who could benefit from up to $20,000 in student debt relief. The vast majority of that relief (nearly 90% of all relief dollars) will go to those earning less than $75,000.
BONUS: CONGRESSIONAL REPUBLICANS ARE THREATENING THE GLOBAL ECONOMY TO CUT SOCIAL SECURITY OR MEDICARE
Sen. Rick Scott has called for putting Medicare and Social Security on the chopping block every five years. Sen. Ron Johnson has gone even further and said Medicare and Social Security should be put up for a vote every single year.
Congressional Republicans keep declaring they will hold the American economy hostage by putting the full faith and credit of the United States at risk in order to cut Medicare and Social Security. Rep. Kevin McCarthy endorsed the idea, and Rep. Nancy Mace said Sunday “I support this strategy.”
And the Republican Study Committee, which represents a majority of House Republicans, has proposed a specific plan to cut Medicare and Social Security benefits, including through privatization and raising the eligibility age.
Congressional Republicans will deny seniors’ benefits they have already paid into.
