Frequently Asked Questions About Elderberry Extract Serum
1. What is Elderberry Extract Serum?
A skincare product called elderberry extract serum contains elderberry, a tiny, dark purple berry that comes from the elder tree (Sambucus nigra). Elderberry has been utilized in herbal medicine for a long time because of its immune-boosting qualities. However, because of its potent antioxidant profile and anti-aging qualities, it has gained popularity in skincare in recent years. Because it combines these advantages in an easily absorbed form, elderberry extract serum is very excellent at giving the skin the maximum amount of nutrients.
2. The Benefits of Elderberry for Your Skin
Flavonoids, phenolic acids, and vital vitamins A, B, C, and E are all found in elderberry extract, and they are known to promote skin health in a variety of ways. Elderberry serum can change your skin in the following ways:
a. Fights Free Radicals and Reduces Oxidative Stress
Elderberries are rich in antioxidants that combat free radicals, which are unstable chemicals that harm skin cells and hasten the aging process. By preventing fine lines, wrinkles, and dullness, these antioxidants help you keep your skin looking young.
b. Anti-Inflammatory Properties
Flavonoids and anthocyanins, which are found in elderberries, have anti-inflammatory qualities. Elderberry extract serum is perfect for sensitive or acne-prone skin since it can help reduce redness, puffiness, and irritation.
c. Promotes Skin Elasticity
Elderberries contain vitamin C, which increases the formation of collagen, a protein that maintains skin firm and young. Using elderberry serum on a regular basis can increase skin suppleness and lessen fine lines and sagging.
d. Rich in Essential Nutrients
Vitamins A, B, C, and E are among the vital components found in elderberries that support and revitalize skin. Your skin will recover from imperfections and environmental damage more quickly if you take these vitamins, which promote cell regeneration.
e. Hydrates and Soothes the Skin
Elderberry serum’s hydrating properties keep skin hydrated and plump. The natural moisturizing qualities of elderberries provide a mild substitute for harsher skincare procedures for people with dry or sensitive skin.
3. Key Ingredients in Elderberry Extract Serum
Elderberry extract is often combined with other ingredients that enhance its benefits. Some common ingredients you’ll find include:
Hyaluronic Acid: For intense hydration and plumpness.
Vitamin E: An antioxidant that protects and repairs skin.
Glycerin: Helps retain moisture, keeping skin soft and supple.
Niacinamide (Vitamin B3): Reduces the appearance of pores, evens skin tone, and enhances skin barrier function.
4. How to Use Elderberry Serum for Best Results
Cleanse Your Face: Start with a gentle cleanser to remove any impurities.
Tone: Apply a toner to prepare your skin for the serum, ensuring it absorbs effectively.
Apply Elderberry Serum: Use a few drops of elderberry serum and gently pat it into your skin, focusing on areas prone to aging, like around the eyes and mouth.
Moisturize: Lock in the serum’s benefits by applying a hydrating moisturizer.
Use Daily: For best results, apply elderberry serum in your morning and evening skincare routine.
5. DIY Elderberry Extract Serum Recipe
Creating your own elderberry extract serum can be fun and rewarding. Here’s a simple recipe to try at home.
Ingredients:
2 tablespoons elderberry extract
1 tablespoon rose water
1 teaspoon glycerin
3–4 drops of essential oil (lavender or tea tree for added benefits)
Instructions:
Mix the elderberry extract, rose water, and glycerin in a small bowl.
Add essential oil and stir well.
Pour the mixture into a small glass bottle with a dropper.
Shake gently before each use and store in a cool, dark place.
6. Choosing the Best Elderberry Serum for Your Skin
Look for an elderberry serum solution that contains few additives and premium ingredients. Because they are less likely to include harsh chemicals, organic or natural serums are frequently an excellent choice. For the best skin benefits, look for active compounds like hyaluronic acid, niacinamide, or other antioxidants on the product label. These ingredients complement elderberry extract.
7. Frequently Asked Questions About Elderberry Extract Serum
Q1: Is elderberry serum suitable for all skin types?
All skin types can benefit from elderberry serum, although sensitive and mature skin types can benefit most from it. It is a multipurpose product that is mild on sensitive skin and sufficiently efficient for oily or combination skin because to its anti-inflammatory and antioxidant qualities.
Q2: Can I use elderberry serum daily?
Of course! For everyday use, elderberry extract serum is mild and secure. The finest results can be obtained by applying it twice daily, giving your skin constant nourishment and protection.
Q3: Is elderberry serum effective for acne-prone skin?
Indeed, the anti-inflammatory qualities of elderberries help calm skin prone to acne and may even lessen the frequency of flare-ups. Additionally, its antioxidants can stop additional skin damage and lessen the visibility of post-acne scars.
Q4: Does elderberry serum interact with other skincare products?
Usually, elderberry serum complements other products effectively. It works particularly effectively with sunscreen, moisturizers, and treatments that contain retinol or peptides. Just be sure to use your cleanser, toner, serum, moisturizer, and sunscreen in the correct order.

#Elderberry has been used in folk medicine for centuries to treat #influenza, colds and #sinusitis, and has been reported to have antiviral activity against influenza and herpes simplex. We investigated the efficacy and safety of oral elderberry syrup for treating influenza A and B infections. Sixty patients (aged 18-54 years) suffering from influenza-like symptoms for 48 h or less were enrolled in this randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled study during the influenza season of 1999-2000 in Norway. Patients received 15 ml of elderberry or placebo syrup four times a day for 5 days, and recorded their symptoms using a visual analogue scale. Symptoms were relieved on average 4 days earlier and use of rescue medication was significantly less in those receiving elderberry extract compared with placebo. Elderberry extract seems to offer an efficient, safe and cost-effective treatment for influenza. These findings need to be confirmed in a larger study. The Claim: The deep purple, almost black berries from the elder tree can shorten the duration of #colds and flus, and help boost the #immune system. The Verdict: Elderberry extracts have antiviral activity in the laboratory and there is preliminary evidence that the berry can shorten the duration of #flu symptoms. Sambucus nigra L. extracted into a product named - Sambucol - are based on a standardized black elderberry extract. They are natural remedies with antiviral properties, especially against different strains of influenza virus. Sambucol was shown to be effective in vitro against 10 strains of influenza virus. In a double-blind, placebo-controlled, randomized study, Sambucol reduced the duration of flu symptoms to 3-4 days. Convalescent phase serum showed a higher antibody level to influenza virus in the Sambucol group, than in the control group. Why can elderberry not elder bones but can improve immunity?
When heard elderberry for the first time, most people responded that I didn’t have a broken bone and I don’t need to eat elderberry. In fact, elderberry is the fruit of a deciduous shrub belonging to the Loniceraceae family. It is rich in anthocyanidins. And flavonoids can strengthen the immune system and improve immunity.
Tumblr media
The efficacy and role of elderberry
1. Prevent the flu
Elderberry has anti-inflammatory, anti-viral and immune-boosting effects. Especially for fever-type cold and runny nose, it is very harmful to the intestinal flora. It is better to eat as little as possible daily. So far, in human experiments, the maximum intake of elderberry juice is 15ml once, four times a day, Lasted for five days, used to treat adult colds. The research on this effect was approved by the National Institute of Health (NIH) report, and the grade is B.
2. Antioxidant
Elderberry belongs to the berry group. Like other berries, it is rich in plant flavonoids. It is a good antioxidant for the human body and helps eliminate free radicals in the body. It can improve the skin's recovery ability under oxidative stress, enhance skin defense and immunity; at the same time, it tightens the skin, maintains firmness, and slows down the growth of wrinkles. It also contains VC and fruit acid to lighten spots and whiten.
3. Moisturize the skin
Elderberry oil contains high content of unsaturated fatty acids, which effectively moisturizes the skin and improves water retention. It is also a relatively small number of plants rich in Omega-3, even higher than rosehip oil, which not only helps the skin maintain stability, but also helps the skin resist external stimuli.
4. Prevention and treatment of osteoporosis
Elderberry is a combination of antioxidant and anti-inflammatory compounds that can help reduce joint pain and soreness. At the same time, the high content of minerals is beneficial to promote bone strength and the development of new bone tissue.
5. Lower cholesterol
Elderberry extract can reduce the cholesterol density in the serum. Studies have shown that low-dose elderberry extract has a slight effect on lowering blood lipids (cholesterol) after a meal.
Are there any side effects of elderberry?
Qualified elderberry extract (Micro ingredients) is very safe to use at the recommended dosage of the product. Normally taking black elderberry has no side effects, but it is inevitable that some people will experience allergies after consumption.
Tumblr media
Summarize:
Elderberry can be used to prevent and relieve colds. If you have flu or a less severe fever in your daily life, you can try to use elderberry to help improve and relieve;
At the same time, it can also help improve your physical fitness and greatly reduce the chance of getting sick, especially when the COVID-19 is raging today, it is really best to get less sick.

Study: Elderberries Block Flu Virus From Attaching To and Entering Human Cells
Natural remedies can a good way to keep our immunity boosted and help you avoid infections. There are lots of fruits and plants that are good for prevention and elderberries are among them. It seems that they contain a chemical compound that will help prevent the flu virus from spreading and will keep your organism healthy.
(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({});
A new study shows that this ancient remedy is great as prevention, because thanks to its phytochemicals it blocks the flu virus from attacking healthy cells. Even if you feel that you are coming down with the flu, you can use elderberry extract to prevent the virus from dividing.
Some preliminary tests have already been made on cells infected with the flu and them treated with a serum containing the berries. The tests have also been successful at a more advanced phase of the virus, as they elderberry extract helped the infected cells release cytokines that have a positive impact on the immune system.
The result was a “potent direct antiviral effect against the flu virus,” said Dr. Golnoosh Torabian.
Keep in mind that you should always consult a doctor regarding the appropriate treatment in case of sickness but adding homeopathic remedies to the treatment won’t do any harm.

PREVIEW TOMORROW’S NEW SKINCARMA BLOG ON MY SUMMER EMPTIES — NOW PLAYING ON MY YOUTUBE CHANNEL! | Link in bio 👆🏼 _______________________________________________________ If you’re looking for the ideal antioxidant serum to layer into your skincare regimen, this is it. Look no further. The Paula’s Choice Power Berry Serum is a 95% natural formula that blends 13 antioxidant-rich berry extracts including sea buckthorn, raspberry, blueberry, açaí, gooseberry and elderberry. Seriously, it’s a fruit salad for your face. That may sound icky and sticky but I assure you Power Berry Serum is neither. It’s super silky and smooth with a deceptively innocuous pink hue. Its milky gel texture melts right into skin, making it easily layered in the morning rush. I’ve been using it both morning and night. Look, you can never get enough antioxidants in your skin! That crazy pink color is actually not so crazy. It’s derived from the multitude of berry extracts in the formula. Berries are the perfect source of antioxidants as they’re loaded with vitamins, polyphenols and flavonoids — the kind of active ingredients that help to maintain, preserve and promote skin health. In addition, there are humectant Glycerin, replenishing Squalane and even power brightener Licorice Root Extract — one of several proven actives found in traditional “Hanbang” Korean medicine. I would expect nothing but excellence from Paula’s Choice — even as the brand moves on without my muse, Paula Begoun, who’s probably enjoying the cool shade under a beachside umbrella somewhere with a fresh fruit salad. This one gets an A in my book! Lancome Toner Douceur
Tumblr media
I haven’t used a true toner in over a year, and have instead been using facial sprays for their convenience (ala Mario Bedescu). Cheaper facial sprays tend to have much milder ingredients, and I was jonesing for something with a bit more punch to it.
Queue Lancome! I have had my eye on their Tonique Confort ($52 for 13.5oz), but after testing a bit in store, I felt it might actually be heavier than I was wanting going into summer (that bitch is mine come fall tho!). I switched course and snagged their Tonique Douceur ($27 for 6.9oz).
Why use a toner?
Because the first law of skin care routines is to move from smallest molecule to largest (roughly speaking), a toner (or essence) should be used as your first step that remains on the skin, followed then by serum and moisturizer. Ideal timing for this is only about a minute after you cleanse, while the skin is still a little damp. Think of it like this: when a sponge is dry, it doesn’t absorb as fast/well as a wet sponge does. Anything after this step will soak in a little faster and deeper into the skin.

Soothing and cooling, this alcohol-free, pH balanced freshener gently tones and refines skin without drying or depleting natural oils. Formulated with skin-softening distilled flower-water, this ultra-refreshing formula gives skin a cool, hydrated feeling. Leaves skin perfectly clean, soft and supple. Skin feels smooth, completely comfortable and refreshed.

The product description does seem a little fluffy to me (distilled flower water...but like, what flower?) After using this for about 2 weeks, I’ve decided that I do prefer it to the facial sprays that I’ve tried so far. It smells great, a little like roses (it must be that distilled flower water).
I apply this all over freshly cleansed skin with Shiseido Facial Cotton . Immediately after, my skin felt less “squeaky clean” and more comfortable and refreshed. I let it sit for about a minute or two before following with serum and moisturizer.

Ingredients
So is there anything in this worth a damn?
Glycerin is a humectant and is #2 on the list, so there is a good amount in here. Humectants draw moisture out of the air and into the skin, helping to improve barrier function (reducing water loss). This helps with that softened and hydrated feeling.
Hydrogenated Castor Oil is too big of a molecule to actually clog pores. Instead, it sits on top of the skin providing a protective barrier against moisture loss. It also acts as an emollient.
Sambucus Nigra Flower is also known as black elderberry. Elderberry can be found in a lot of K beauty products and is great at softening the skin.
Benzyl Alcohol is different from harsher alcohols like isopropyl and won't dry the skin in the same way. It usually used in more natural skin care in lieu of a preservative to keep bacteria from growing. As a consumer, disappointing to see this included in an ‘alcohol free’ toner (even knowing its function and effect isn't the harsh alcohol you may be expecting).
Rosa Centifolia Water is basically just rose hip, which you usually see in an oil. Rose hip has a lot of fatty acids for the skin and a little bit of Vitamin C as well.
Citronellol is a fragrance extracted from flowers and can irritate more sensitive skin. As the name implies, it’s a lil citrus-y.
Does not contain:
Gluten
Phthalates
Soy
Does contain:
Parabens (methylparaben & propylparaben)
Cruelty Free? Depends. People with stricter guidelines will say no, as Lancome is sold in China, who requires animal testing (there is a loophole here that I will probably write about sometime in the future). If you are more concerned about whether or not Lancome, or their parent company L’Oreal physically ordered testing on animals, the answer is no.
Vegan? Probably not. Glycerin can be produced using plant or animal byproducts, and Lancome does not state one or the other.
Overall
As someone without sensitive skin or an aversion to alcohol in products, I really liked this. I feel like it does the job, isn’t insanely expensive (for Lancome), and I happen to enjoy the light floral/citrus scent. I also love the size vs cost, I’ve been using it 2x daily for two weeks and I haven’t even started to make a slight dent in it.

Elderberry has been used in folk medicine for centuries to treat influenza, colds and sinusitis, and has been reported to have antiviral activity against influenza and herpes simplex. The Claim: The deep purple, almost black berries from the elder tree can shorten the duration of colds and flus, and help boost the immune system. The Verdict: Elderberry extracts have antiviral activity in the laboratory and there is preliminary evidence that the berry can shorten the duration of flu symptoms.
