Mick Schumacher joins Mercedes as reserve driver after exit from Ferrari | 2022 F1 season
Mick Schumacher has joined Mercedes as its reserve driver for the 2023 Formula 1 season. The team announced his appointment after Ferrari confirmed his departure after four years with the team. The 23-year-old made his debut as a Formula 1 driver with Haas last year but was dropped after two seasons at the team. He was also Ferrari’s reserve driver at selected races this year. In his new role at Mercedes, Schumacher will attend all F1 races and contribute to the development of the team’s W14 chassis through simulator work. Schumacher said he is making a “new start” at the team. “F1 is such a fascinating world, and you never stop learning, so I look forward to absorbing more knowledge and putting in all my efforts for the benefit of the Mercedes team.” Mercedes team principal Toto Wolff described Schumacher as “a talented young driver and we’re delighted to have him join the team. “He is a hard worker, has a calm and methodical approach and is still hungry to learn and improve as a driver. These are all important qualities, and we’re excited for him to help us develop the W14.” Schumacher’s two seasons of racing in F1 will make him a suitable substitute for Lewis Hamilton or George Russell if needed, Wolff added. “We also know that with two years of experience racing in Formula 1 under his belt, he will be ready to step into the car at short notice to replace either Lewis or George, should that need arise.” Advert | Become a RaceFans supporter and go ad-free Schumacher’s appointment to the Ferrari Driver Academy in January 2019 prompted considerable interest as he followed in the footsteps of his father who won five titles with the team between 2000 and 2004. The elder Schumacher was part of Mercedes’ young driver programme in sports car racing before making his F1 debut, and returned to the manufacturer to drive for their F1 team between 2010 and 2012. Ferrari appointed the younger Schumacher to their driver academy following his victory in the 2016 FIA Formula 3 European championship. After winning the Formula 2 title at his second attempt in 2020, Schumacher graduated to F1 with Haas. His first season was largely wasted in a slow and underdeveloped car alongside fellow rookie Nikita Mazepin. But when Haas produced a more competitive machine this year, Schumacher did not capitalise on it as successfully has his experienced new team mate. Kevin Magnussen out-scored Schumacher by 25 points to 12 this year. Schumacher also suffered heavy crashes at Jeddah and Monaco as well as a sizeable shunt at the end of practice in Suzuka. Ferrari announced today they and Schumacher “mutually decided not to extend their collaboration” beyond this year. “Scuderia Ferrari thanks Mick for these four years and the many kilometres covered together, and wishes him all the best for the future.” Despite never driving a Ferrari in an official F1 session, Schumacher tested for them on several occasions during his four-year stint in their driver academy. He also drove some of his father’s F1 Ferraris, including the F2004 during Formula 1’s sole visit to Mugello in 2020. Interviewed by 2 Seventies
Background
This weekend my stake is getting a new stake presidency. It’s been interesting to view the process from behind the scenes.
A few weeks ago a list of everyone to be interviewed was sent to the stake president--bishops, members of the high council, current counselors in the stake presidency, the stake clerk and the stake executive secretary. They asked if there’s anyone else the stake president would recommend adding to the list.
Then each of those individuals was sent a brief set of questions asking about their current & previous callings, their occupation, and their family. As the stake executive secretary, I was asked to arrange the interview schedule, giving 6 minutes for each interviewee. The idea is that the Lord knows who is to be the next stake president and just needs to make it known. I commented that this seems like speed dating.
We had 2 Seventy assigned to this stake conference. One is Elder Kevin S. Hamilton, he’s a General Authority Seventy, the other is Elder Douglas B. Carter, he’s an Area Authority Seventy, meaning he lives somewhere nearby, works his regular job during the week and has Church assignments on the weekend.
We learned only a few days ago that the General Authority Seventy in Salt Lake are not traveling. They continue to meet in council with the Apostles & First Presidency, so to limit the chance of them being exposed to COVID and bringing it to the councils, they are not traveling.
So our setup for the interview was Elder Hamilton on a laptop by Zoom and Elder Carter sitting behind the desk.
————————————————————
The Interview
"Brother Doyle, this says you don't have a wife and you've never been married, is this correct?"
My reply was, "I'll save you from having to ask 20 questions. I'm gay and being in the Church means certain avenues are closed to me."
“When did you come out?”
“I consider I officially came out a decade ago, but I was just telling individuals, not making a big announcement, but in 2017 I had a blog post go viral that outed me to everyone.”
They proceeded to ask some hard, probing questions. I doubt they asked similar types questions of the others. Wanting to know if I ever was inactive (there were times I wanted to but I had a Mormon boss or landlord or other reason that made not going to church tricky), did I grow up in the Church (yes), have you always abided by the Law of Chastity (I’m not exactly sure how to answer this, what exactly is it you want to know, while in this calling I have dated some people but I know where the line is about chastity that would require me to be released and I’m careful about that, and also, I haven’t dated for a while).
They asked me if I have a temple recommend (yes), are you worthy (I answered “yes,” but shouldn’t my answer about the recommend have satisfied this question). Do I go to the temple often? (this last question is the only one that Elder Carter asked, all the rest were asked by Elder Hamilton)
When I responded that although I keep a current recommend, I don't usually go to the temple except to support others. There's things at the temple that are hard for me. They asked what about the temple would be hard? "Well, it talks about it's not good for man to be alone, it talks about having joy in our creation." "Oh, I can understand that."
At that point their body language softened and relaxed, they started smiling, and began asking me questions about how I feel about my calling (I felt God asked me to do a work among LGBT members, and when I agreed, He put me in this calling, which is interesting that doing this calling's work opened the way for me to do the other work), how do I help other LGBT members, what have I learned from my stake president?
They thanked me for sharing that I struggle and do my best and carry on.
As they were wrapping up, the General Authority Seventy said he's confident God will work everything out for me. My response was I hope so, but those are easy words to say and harder to keep faith in.” He acknowledged that he doesn't know the future, but he has faith God will bless me.
Elder Hamilton can tell I’m impacting people, thanked me for being visible, and said if he was here in person that he'd give me a hug.
————————————————————
Their Comment to the Stake President
After they'd met with everyone, the two Seventy spent some time in conversation with each other, then asked the soon-to-be-released stake president to meet with them, I believe to get his perspectives on certain individuals and if there's background information they should be aware of.
After he exited the office and the 2 Seventy resumed conferring with each other, he told me that when he walked in and closed the door, the first thing they said was, "Well, the most interesting interview was with your executive secretary."
He replied, "I bet it was. I've instructed him to be candid with me and I trust he was candid with you."
"Oh yes, he was candid. As we talked with him, we grew to like him."
————————————————————
Commentary
Even now after all these years, it takes bravery to be LGBT in this Church and deal with these kinds of things. And sometimes it is very wearying, too.
Today felt like 2 different interviews back-to-back. They were tough on me in the first half. Maybe they were just curious and wanting to learn, but it feels very vulnerable to be asked those sorts of questions in rapid fire that could be interpreted as accusatory.
I think because these types of interviews to find the next stake president are done under very tight time limits, that's why they just asked question after question, but it was rough to be on the receiving end of those questions in that first half of the interview.
Our stories have power, if they’re willing to listen. Being in proximity is important to spurring change. I know it's unusual for them to come to a stake and run into someone like me, and I've helped them understand better.
I’m very proud of my stake president for immediately sticking up for me when he said, “I’ve instructed him to be candid with me and I trust he was with you.”

The American black comedy crime thriller A Simple Favor was released in 2018, and its cast members in it are extremely recognizable. The film, directed by Paul Feig from a screenplay written by Jessica Sharzer, is a suspenseful story based on the 2017 novel of the same name, written by Darcey Bell. The movie stars Blake Lively and Anna Kendrick in the main roles, among other notable actors in supporting roles. The plot centers on a small-town video blogger who attempts to solve the mystery behind her friend's disappearance.
A Simple Favor was released by Lionsgate, and the movie garnered critical praise upon its theatrical release. Most critics praised the chemistry of the ensemble cast, and also wrote enthusiastically about the movie's shocking plot twists and turns. The film ended up making $5.9 million on its first day alone, and grossed a total of $97 million worldwide, on a budget of only $20 million.

Indeed, the movie has an impressive cast led by its main stars, Blake Lively and Anna Kendrick. Henry Golding, Andrew Rannells, and Linda Cardellini are some of the supporting cast members, as well as Jean Smart, Rupert friend, Eric Johnson, and Dustin Milligan, among other actors.
Blake Lively takes on the role of Emily Nelson, Hope McLanden, and Faith McLanden in A Simple Favor, and her character's life is the most interesting part of the film. Viewers know Lively from teen movies The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants, Accepted, Simon Says, and other early-aughts flicks. Later, she appeared in movies ranging from New York, I Love You to The Town to superhero flick Green Lantern, which she starred in alongside her future husband Ryan Reynolds. In more recent years, Lively has appeared in The Age of Adaline, The Shallows, Café Society, and All I See Is You.
Following her success with A Simple Favor, Lively starred in the movie The Rhythm Section in 2020 alongside actors Jude Law and Sterling K. Brown. The movie follows a grieving woman who goes on a destructive path for revenge after learning that the plane crash that killed her family was actually a terrorist attack. To date, that is Lively's most recent role. From 2007 - 2012, of course, Lively starred as Serena van Der Woodsen in the hit show Gossip Girl, for which she won several accolades.
Like Lively, actress Anna Kendrick, who portrays Stephanie Smothers in A Simple Favor, has been working in Hollywood for several years. She first became a familiar face for her role as Jessica Stanley in the Twilight movies. Following the franchise's end, Kendrick began to take on different roles. She played Natalie Keener in Up In The Air, Janet Taylor in End of Watch and voiced Courtney Babock in ParaNorman. In 2012, Kendrick reached full stardom for playing Becca Mitchell in the popular movie Pitch Perfect. After that, Kendrick appeared in a slew of movies from 2013 until A Simple Favor in 2018, including What to Expect When You're Expecting, Drinking Buddies, Cake, Into the Woods, the two Pitch Perfect sequels, and The Accountant. She also appeared in the movies Mike and Dave Need Wedding Dates and voiced a character in Trolls.

Following her turn as Stephanie in A Simple Favor, Kendrick played Kendra Glack in the 2019 movie The Day Shall Come and portrayed Noelle Kringle in the holiday movie Noelle, released the same year. She also reprised her role in Trolls for the movie's 2020 sequel.
Andre Rannells, who plays Darren in A Simple Favor, began his career in television. He voiced characters on children's shows, like Pokémon and Yu-Gi-Oh!, as a kid, and the early aughts also saw his break into theater. He had numerous roles on the stage, and in 2011 played Elder Kevin Price in The Book of Mormon as an original cast member. From 2014 - 2018, he also had roles in Hedwig and the Angry Inch, Hamilton, Falsettos, and The Boys in the Band.
Related: Disney+ & HBO Max Already Have One Thing In Common: Anna Kendrick
Rannells became a familiar face on the screen when he joined the cast of Girls from 2012 - 2017, playing Elijah Krantz in 35 episodes. This role led him to other television parts, including Bryan Collins in The New Normal and Frazier H. Wingo in The Knick, as well as guest appearances in hit shows like How I Met Your Mother and Glee. He also had voice roles in the shows Sofia the First, Welcome to the Wayne, and Vampirina. Most notably, in 2017 Rannells joined the cast of Big Mouth. He continues to play that role into 2021, as well as continues to make occasional guest appearances on other shows. In terms of film — Rannell's most recent roles were in the 2020 films The Boys in the Band, The Prom, and The Stand In. And before appearing in 2018's A Simple Favor, he had parts in 2016's Why Him? and 2015's The Intern.
Linda Cardellini plays the part of Diana Hyland in A Simple Favor. Cardellini first became a household name in 1999, when she starred as Lindsay Weir in the cult television series Freaks and Geeks. That wasn't her first time in a series, though; throughout the late 1990s, she appeared in shows like Bone Chillers, 3rd Rock from the Sun, Clueless, Step by Step, Promised Land, Kenan & Kel, and Boy Meets World, among other programs.
Post-Freaks and Geeks, Cardellini continued her career in TV, appearing as Samantha Taggart in ER as Bliss Goode and Shelly in The Goode Family. She also had turns in popular shows like Gravity Falls, Mad Men, and New Girl, and took on the serious role of Meg Rayburn in 2015 for 33 episodes of Bloodline. In 2019, Cardellini began portraying Judy Hale in the Netflix series Dead to Me, opposite Christina Applegate.

Of course, many movie watchers know Cardellini's likeness from feature films. She appeared as Chutney Wyndham in Legally Blonde, and famously portrayed Velma Dinkley in Scooby-Doo and its sequel. Cardellini also had parts in Brokeback Mountain, The Lazarus Project, Kill the Irishman, and Daddy's Home and its sequel. Superhero movie fans know Cardellini as Laura Barton, the wife of Clint Barton aka Hawkeye in Avengers: Age of Ultron and Avengers: Endgame. And Cardellini has also starred in critically acclaimed films like Green Book, in which she played Dolores. In 2020, Cardellini portrayed Mae Capone in the movie Capone.
Actor Henry Golding portrays Sean Townsend in A Simple Favor. Golding has been a presenter on BBC's The Travel Show since 2014. Today's movie watchers primarily know him for playing the role of Nick Young in the hit 2018 movie Crazy Rich Asians, for which he won a Teen Choice Award. He also took on the role of Tom in the recent 2019 romantic-comedy holiday flick Last Christmas. Some lesser-known movies Townsend has appeared in include Pisau Cukur, Monsoon, and The Gentlemen. His most recent project is Snake Eyes, which is in post-production. In addition to being a longtime host on BBC's travel show, Golding has hosted shows including Football Crazy, Welcome to the Railworld Japan, and Surviving Borneo.
Jean Smart, who played Margaret McLanden in A Simple Favor, is most known for playing Lana Gardner on the NBC sitcom Frasier - a role for which she won two Primetime Emmy Awards. She started her impressive acting career in both film and television in the late 1970s. Some of the notable movies she's appeared in include Piaf, Homeward Bound: The Incredible Journey, Snow Day, Sweet Home Alabama, Garden State, Life As We Know It, The Accountant, and, most recently, Superintelligence.
Related: Blake Lively & Michiel Huisman Talk 'Age of Adaline' Science, Harrison Ford & More
Smart has also appeared in television shows other than Fraiser throughout her career. She voiced Helen Ventrix in an episode of Batman: The Animated Series, played Sally Brewton in three episodes of Scarlett, and played Elinore "Ellie" Walker for 13 episodes of High Society. She also gained recognition for playing Martha Logan, the First Lady, in the show 24, and for portraying Regina Newly in 35 episodes of Samantha Who?
Smart was in numerous other television series up until her turn in A Simple Favor, and also appeared in small guest roles in popular shows like Halt and Catch Fire and The McCarthys. In more recent years, Smart portrayed Floyd Gerhardt in Fargo and Melanie Bird in Legion, as well as Arlane Hart in Dirty John, Mimi in Arrested Development, and series regular Agent Laurie Blake in Watchmen.
Rupert Friend played Dennis Nylon in A Simple Favor. The actor began his career with the 2004 movie The Libertine. He first became a familiar face when he took on the role of Mr. Wickham in Pride & Prejudice. Throughout the early aughts he had several other significant roles, including Sandy Mardell in Outlaw and Demetrius in The Last Legion, as well as Lt. Kurt Kotler in The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas and Prince Albert in The Young Victoria.

TV-wise, Friend is most known for portraying the character Peter Quinn in 58 episodes of Homeland. For his performance as Peter, Friend was nominated for numerous accolades. He also appeared in other shows since the end of Homeland, including Dream Corp, LLC, Strange Angel, and, most recently, Anatomy of a Scandal.
Eric Johnson as Davis: played Flash Gordon on the eponymous 2007 - 2008 television series, as well as Whintey Fordman on the show Smallville and Jack Hyde in the Fifty Shades franchise, among other roles.
Dustin Milligan as Chris: played Ethan Ward on the teen drama show 90210. Most recently, of course, the majority of television watchers know him as Ted Mullens from Schitt's Creek.
Bashir Salahuddin as Detective Summervile: appeared in the movies Snatched and Gringo, and since then has been in Marriage Story and The 24th. He's also known as a writer on Maya and Marty and for portraying Keith Bang on GLOW and Office Goodnight on South Side.
Kelly McCormack as Stacy: known for playing Zeph in the sci-fi show Killyjoys and for playing Betty Anne on the show Letterkenny. Most recently, she wrote, produced, and starred in the feature film Sugar Daddy.
Sarah Baker as Maryanne Chelkowsky: was previously in the movies The Campaign and Mascots, as well as shows like The Kominsky Method and Louie.
Melissa O'Neil as Beth: first gained fame for winning the third season of Canadian Idol in 2005. She's also known for her roles as Two/Rebecca/Portia Lin on the sci-fi series Dark Matter and as Officer Lucy Chen on the police drama show The Rookie.
Of course, viewers have probably seen these listed stars in other movies and TV shows, too. This is a non-exhaustive list of the films and shows that they are most likely recognized from. When all of these actors came together to work on 2018's A Simple Favor, it was a notable project. The movie was praised for its ensemble effort and continues to gain traction among movie watchers today.

I was going to do a Hamilton high school AU but I changed my mind bc that’s been done to death
Also I was originally going to do the fab four but i thought all the elders (plus naba of course) needed some love. So i spent a v long time playing “let’s turn these ensemble characters into actual three-dimensional characters with decent quirks and personalities”
EDIT: the headcanons are quite hard to read (thanks, terrible smartphone camera) so I’ve also put them under the cut :^)

Musical Theatre Asks I am Answering cause my BFF asked me to
@666lucifersbitch I love you thank you
Best cast recording to listen to during a long car trip? Ooh for the car? I do love Company or RENT in the car. But any musical is car music you know.
Song you’d blast from the top of a skyscraper? It's all about Urinetown Act I Finale bitch!!!!! Or Bitch of Living!!! OR DIRTY ROTTEN REPRISE
Song that never fails to make you cry? My Man from Funny Girl. I know it's not in the original but if and when they do a Revival with me as Fanny this HAS to be in it
Off-Broadway or Broadway production of Natasha, Pierre, and the Great Comet? BOTH! Every version of this musical forever. My favorite piece of theatre.
If you were to make a your own production of your favorite musical with complete creative rights, what would you change? My favorite musical ever is Sweeney Todd and I'd like to see it set in like a 1920's speakeasy kind of setting. Like the pie shop operated underground in a classy pub setting. Idk. Or a Urinetown that takes place in an abandoned atomic bomb city!!! Like the NukeTowns that they would build from scratch and blow up to test atomic bomb damage!!
Best song to break something while listening to? I just did Spring Awakening so maybe Totally Fucked is a cop-out, but it's so true.
Hamilton or In the Heights? In The Heights has more heart and I was in it so I have a special place for that, but I think Hamilton over all.
Top three Broadway actors or actresses? I have a hundred but the first that came to mind: Patti Lupone, Jefferson Mays, Phillipa Soo
Hugh Jackman, Neil Patrick Harris, or James Corden as the host of the Tonys? Kevin Spacey
Best musical theatre breakup song? As in to listen to after a break up or a song about break ups? My bitch ass is always listening to Someone Like You when I'm sad about boys. Goodbye Love from Rent is classic too.
Stephen Sondheim or James Lapine? Sondheim obv
Favorite romantic or platonic duo on Broadway? I'm picking a trio and it's Sibella, Phoebe, and Monty from GGLAM. But I have a ton of others
“Waving Through a Window” or “For Forever” from the cast album of Dear Evan Hansen? I don't give a fuck about DEH tbh but I admit For Forever is pretty, if not predictable
If you were to write a musical, which composer/writer would you like to team up with? Dave Malloy!!!!!
What would you say if you met your Broadway fave? THANK YOU FOR SAVING MY LIFE AND CAN I BE IN YOUR SHOW
Best musical theatre location? Orlanda, Santa Fe, Chicago, or the Emerald City? WHAT THE fuck.....Santa Fe cause Newsies and Rent
Sally Bowles or Roxie Heart? SALLY BOWLES!!!!!! SALLY BOWLES!!!!!!
Role you could play at this very moment and absolutely nail? Natasha in Natasha Pierre no fucking questions asked. Also, a VERY good Javert or Jekyll/Hyde. Or Drowsy in The Drowsy Chaperone.
Movie stars on Broadway or Broadway stars in movies? Either if they do it well, but maybe Broadway stars in movies cause they need to eat
What book, movie, or TV show do you think should be made into a musical? Scott Pilgrim vs the World or Madame Bovary
Tap dance breaks or 10-second costume changes? Both!! At the same time!!! (Turn It Off)
Best Broadway Elder Price? Andrew Rannells. Saw the original cast and was blown away. He was robbed of his Tony
Best meta moment in a musical? Okay does Franklin Shepard Inc count cause Charlie tears that shit up!!!!
Top three women-driven musicals? Evita, Gypsy, Color Purple. At least that's on my mind rn
Are you more excited for Spongebob: The Musical or the Broadway adaption of Frozen? I'd rather fuck a concrete dick or open fire in a Hobby Lobby than consider spongebob the musical
Best young love song? No One Else or It's De-Lovely bye
Matilda or Groundhog Day? Matilda!!!!! Always!!!!
Historical event that should be made into a musical? Something with Amelia Earhart who owns my whole ass
What non-Broadway singer/actor would you love to see in a Broadway show, and which role would you like them to play? Regina Spektor as Helene in Natasha would be sexi maybe
If you read fanfic, what’s your favorite fanfic about characters from musical theatre? I don't read MT fanfic but I'd like to
Dream cast your favorite musical. Me as seriously every part in Natasha or Urinetown:
Pennywise - Cynthia Ervio
Bobby: Andrew Rannells
Hope: Denee Benton
Cladwell: Jefferson Mays
Little Sally: Lucas Steele in a wig
Dunno who lockstock would be.... honestly??? probably Norbert Leo Butz
Set design or lighting design? set design cause I do it
Favorite empowerment-themed Broadway song? Here I Am, Don't Rain on My Parade, Rose's Turn, I Am What I Am, I Am Changing, I'm Here, I can't stop
Which Broadway star, from the past or present, would you love to have dinner with? Elaine Stritch!!
Favorite musical theatre trope? I love patter songs, dark reprises, songs that are strictly ensemble, ORCHESTRA TUNING UP IN THE OVERTURE I could go on

HBO’s Perry Mason Episode Guide
https://ift.tt/eA8V8J
The first half of HBO’s Perry Mason was a bit of a tease.
Though everyone with even a passing familiarity with American television knows that Perry Mason is a devoted, capable lawyer, HBO’s version of the show introduced him as something else entirely. Through four full episodes of TV, Matthew Rhys’s legal hero was more of a grimy private investigator.
To be fair, this depiction of Perry Mason worked quite well within the HBO series’ gritty ‘20s aesthetic. But any show featuring Perry Mason was going to have to head to a courtroom eventually. And eventually Perry Mason did. The back half of Perry Mason’s eight episode first season put the titular star in the legal world where he belongs. And that’s presumably where he’ll stay for season 2.
Below is an episode guide to better track Perry’s evolution.
Perry Mason Episode 1: Chapter One
Perry Mason and Pete Strickland are hired by an attorney to solve a perplexing case: the brutal kidnapping of a one-year-old whose parents were targeted for a $100,000 ransom.
Written by: Rolin Jones & Ron Fitzgerald; directed by Tim Van Patten.
Air date: 6/21/20
Perry Mason Episode 2: Chapter Two
Following one of her trademark barn-burning sermons, Evangelical preacher Sister Alice (Tatiana Maslany) offers the Dodsons the church’s full moral and financial support – much to her mother Birdy’s (Lili Taylor) dismay. During a routine domestic intervention, beat cop Paul Drake (Chris Chalk) is rerouted to a gruesome crime scene, where he follows a confounding trail of evidence. Mason (Matthew Rhys) is left incensed by a jaw-dropping admission from Baggerly (Robert Patrick) and, after pressing Emily (Gayle Rankin) on her husband’s alibi, finds himself confronted by an outraged Della (Juliet Rylance). Detectives Holcomb (Eric Lange) and Ennis (Andrew Howard) use Drake’s (Chris Chalk) findings to their own advantage.
Written by: Rolin Jones & Ron Fitzgerald; directed by Tim Van Patten.
Air date: 6/28/20
Perry Mason Episode 3: Chapter Three
In order to gain an advantage over E.B. and team, wily district attorney Maynard Barnes (Stephen Root) goes public with a shocking new development. Mason (Matthew Rhys) and Strickland (Shea Whigham) get unauthorized access to physical evidence with help from Virgil (Jefferson Mays), Mason’s connect at the city morgue. Later, Mason attempts to extract information from a withholding Drake (Chris Chalk), who’s weary of Holcomb (Eric Lange) and Ennis’ (Andrew Howard) watchful eyes. Della (Juliet Rylance) notices a change in E.B. (John Lithgow), who seems uncharacteristically out of sorts.
Written by: Rolin Jones & Ron Fitzgerald; directed by Tim Van Patten.
Air date: 7/5/20
Perry Mason Episode 4: Chapter Four
Mason (Matthew Rhys) and Strickland (Shea Whigham) lean on Virgil (Jefferson Mays), again, for extra-legal assistance. Following Sister Alice’s (Tatiana Maslany) recovery from a frightening episode, Birdy (Lili Taylor) urges her daughter to renounce her claims about baby Charlie. E.B. (John Lithgow) faces the reality of his financial situation and takes his frustrations out on Della (Juliet Rylance).
Written by: Steven Hanna & Sarah Kelly Kaplan; directed by Deniz Gamze Ergüven.
Air date: 7/12/20
Perry Mason Episode 5: Chapter Five
While Mason (Matthew Rhys) and Della (Juliet Rylance) run a solemn errand up north, Strickland (Shea Whigham) tracks down the sergeant originally assigned to the Dodson case. Before returning to L.A., Mason drops in on his ex-wife Linda (Gretchen Mol) and son Teddy (Cooper Friedman), hoping to make amends for his recent shortcomings. Disturbed by Emily’s (Gayle Rankin) blind faith in Sister Alice (Tatiana Maslany) and her new lawyer, Frank Dillon (Matt Malloy), Della sets out to find Mrs. Dodson more capable legal representation.
Written by Eleanor Burgess; directed by Deniz Gamze Ergüven.
Air date: 7/19/20
Perry Mason Episode 6: Chapter Six
As Emily’s (Gayle Rankin) trial begins and a damning witness testimony takes center stage, Mason (Matthew Rhys) attempts to recover from a shaky start. Meanwhile, in their search for clues that might lead to an exoneration, Della (Juliet Rylance) and Strickland (Shea Whigham) investigate a potential connection between Detective Ennis (Andrew Howard) and Charlie’s kidnappers. Later, Mason considers betraying Drake’s (Chris Chalk) trust to give his client an edge in court, and Birdy (Lili Taylor) urges Sister Alice (Tatiana Maslany) to scrap her Easter Sunday plan before it’s too late.
Written by Kevin J. Hynes; directed by Deniz Gamze Ergüven.
Air date: 7/26/20
Perry Mason Episode 7: Chapter Seven
Hoping to expose the hidden link between the Radiant Assembly’s staggering debt and Charlie’s ransom, Mason (Matthew Rhys) puts Herman Baggerly (Robert Patrick) on the stand. Sister Alice (Tatiana Maslany) faces mounting pressure from the church elders about her promises for a “resurrection.” Strickland loses track of a key witness, while Drake’s (Chris Chalk) detective work opens a new avenue in the case.
Written by Howard Korder; directed by Tim Van Patten.
Air date: 8/2/20
Perry Mason Episode 8: Chapter Eight
After the team receives some unvarnished critique from Hamilton Burger (Justin Kirk), Della (Juliet Rylance) presents an increasingly stubborn Mason (Matthew Rhys) with her case for putting Emily (Gayle Rankin) on the stand. As the sensational trial winds to a close, Mason, Strickland (Shea Whigham), Della, and Drake (Chris Chalk) attempt to tie up loose ends – and set the stage for their futures.
Written by Rolin Jones & Ron Fitzgerald & Kevin J. Hynes; directed by Tim Van Patten.
Air date: 8/9/20

An Answer from Elder Hamilton
A few weeks ago the stake presidency of my stake changed. As part of that process, 2 Seventy interviewed several men from my stake to determine if they’re the next stake president, and due to being the stake executive secretary, I also was interviewed in this process.
The interview began just as I expected. They expressed surprise that I’m single and never married, and I responded, "I’ll save you from having to ask 20 questions. I’m gay and being in the Church means certain avenues are closed to me.”
Once I’d said I’m gay, the interview then turned immediately to questions about chastity, leaving the church, worthiness, and I was a bit taken aback. And then midway through, their body language changed and the tone of the questions shifted and it felt caring.
I wrote a letter to Elder Hamilton to let him know how that interview felt from my perspective. And today I received a letter in response and I’d like to share it as it’s part of my experience of being a gay Mormon.
————————————————————
Dear David,
I apologize for responding via email – I would normally respond to mail with a letter, but in these COVID times we are all still working remotely which makes email the choice.
Thank you for your thoughtful letter. From my perspective, I never for one moment felt anything but love and appreciation for you. I have family members who are LGBTQ and I am completely comfortable with them and they with me (I hope 😊). My favorite uncle who just passed away was a gay man for nearly his entire adult life. I am still very close to his partner of many years.
I hope that you didn’t mis-read the tone of the first half of the interview. Admittedly, we are on a mission to identify the person that the Lord has already prepared to be the next stake president. The interviews are brief and in quick succession. Having said that, however, whenever I come across someone who could use some extra ministering and support, I always try to make some time for that. I think this is why it felt like two interviews. I love the fact that you are a gay man who is in the Church and trying to make his way along the covenant path. We need you; you need the Church. We love you and wouldn’t for an instant want you anywhere else. Stay strong and faithful my brother. As for me judging you, that is not my role. The Savior knows you perfectly and will judge you perfectly. I am grateful that He is our judge, not some other person.
I will add my name to the list of general authorities that want to be your friend. If you need anything and I can help, please reach out. If you are in SLC and want to stop for a visit, I would love it. Just give me a heads up to schedule a time.
Sincerely,
Elder Kevin S. Hamilton Of the Seventy
